A mourning dove decided my herb planter box was the best place for its nest.
I've been taking pictures of it for the past three weeks and it looks like the chicks finally hatched! It's pretty cool to have a resident gardening bird friend! I have a theory it made part of its nest out of the dried thyme plant which I never trimmed after the winter, which would be somewhat hilarious. submitted by /u/electrifiedair to r/gardening [link] [comments]

The most powerful herbs …
I know everyone has at least one, in their own craft. An herb ( or resin ) that the practitioner themselves *personally* consider the strongest, most powerful herb. The herb equivalent, of their BFF. Their favorite go-to. That one that makes you feel like the magical version of that scene in Scarface, where he yells “Say hello to my little friend!”😁 I’m curious to hear what you guys have in that area, and how your little friend has helped you! My mother doesn't let me see a neurologist for my episodes of probably "Non-convulsive seizures", but got me these drops of herb extracts from the local religious center
I'm 18, and since a year ago, I've started to get these episodes every 30 ~ 60 days, where all of sudden i get in a state of "semi-consciousness" in which i normally stay where i was or walk a little bit, and can only respond to basic commands, it lasts approximately 25~45 minutes, and after it i slowly regain consciousness of myself, but i don't remember a thing of what happened during the episode. I've been trying to self diagnose in the internet, but it isn't easy, at first i thought it was "Transient Global Amnesia" but doing more research it seems more like a type of "Nonconvulsive Status Epilepticus". I've been very scared since it started happening, since i can't even prepare or something, I just started going to college and i fear i might run into traffic during my commute or having one of these during class or a presentation, since i have no control at all when this happens. What are these dried herbs that came with my daughter’s candle?
My daughter received this novelty candle via Amazon for Christmas. Sitting underneath the candle in the box was this little cellophane packet of dried green herbs. There’s no mention on the packaging of what it might be and it came straight from the distributor this way. It doesn’t smell like anything in particular, but that may be because the candle smell is overwhelming whatever the herbs are. The packet is resealable and looks like it’s meant to be opened and used (versus just being an organic moisture absorber used in packing, or something like that). Any idea what this could be and or how we should use it? Google searches have given us nothing. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/WillPowerATL to r/whatisit [link] [comments]

[Hollinger] My NBA All-Disappointment Team: Ja Morant, LaMelo Ball, Trae Young, Darius Garland, Paolo Banchero, Draymond Green, Jared McCain, Herb Jones, Cam Johnson, Guerschon Yabusele, and Indiana’s Youth
It’s amazing how much has changed in three years. Think back to the 2022 NBA All-Star Game: Three precocious young point guards — the Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young, the Memphis Grizzlies’ Ja Morant and the Charlotte Hornets’ LaMelo Ball — made the squad and played on the same team in Cleveland. In each case, the future for both player and team seemed bright, but fast forward to 2025, and that’s not the case. Young’s Hawks made the Eastern Conference finals in 2021, Ball’s Hornets won 43 games in 2022 and Morant’s Grizzlies were the second seed in the Western Conference in consecutive seasons. Unbelievably, none of the three have won a playoff series since 2022. This doesn’t look like the year the streak will end, with the Hawks and Grizzlies in Play-In territory and Ball’s Hornets again headed for the draft lottery. Similarly, all three have seen their career trajectories go sideways, even if it’s happened more in slow motion than in one rapid swoon. Injuries have plagued all three, but unserious defense and stalled development trajectories are also to blame. Ball has been the topic of trade rumors and even a rumored trade demand; Young is a potential free agent this summer whose team has made no serious move toward extending his contract; Morant’s unreliability was a key factor in Memphis’ offseason reset, and he’s already been suspended by his own team this season. There might be other individual players who have been more disappointing this season, but as a class, the Southern point guard trio has moved into a league of its own. As a result, those three top my All-Disappointment Team for 2025-26. My squad is a list of players who have done the most to fall short of our hopes and expectations, however misplaced they might have been. While I focused more on significant players on big contracts, I sprinkled in a few middle-class guys and developmental cases as well. We’re barely one-third of the way into an 82-game season. Things can and do change, and inevitably, some players will play themselves off this list. But as 2026 begins, here are the envelopes. (Stats as of Wednesday afternoon.) NBA All-Disappointment Team: Ja Morant LaMelo Ball Trae Young Darius Garland Paolo Banchero Draymond Green Jared McCain Herb Jones Cam Johnson Guerschon Yabusele Indiana’s Youth Source: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6930954/2026/01/01/nba-season-2025-2026-disappointments/ submitted by /u/AashyLarry to r/nba [link] [comments]

Help with an herb-based name for this girl?
I adopted two kittens (littermates) earlier this year and named them Sage and Basil, but now (due to some slight bullying from my mom) I'm adopting another cat that's about the same age as them and want to give her a name that fits in with them. Best herbs to grow that actually get used?
I’m starting to build out a small herb section in my backyard garden (apartment living, so space is tight!), and I want to make sure I’m growing things I’ll actually use. I love the idea of stepping outside to grab something fresh while cooking, but I don’t want to end up with a bunch of herbs that just sit there looking cute and never make it into a meal. Wife tasked me to build an Herb Spiral with a 0$ budget
I'd never heard of one before a few weeks ago, but the Internet and r/gardening are powerful tools! To stay within my budget I used old pavers that had a less than optimal shape, old weed barrier and the rest of a bucket of grout from a project finished years ago. After scoring each with a chisel, I dropped them on a large pointed granite stone to split them into the shape I needed. If I were to do it again, I would spend more time grading the base for better drainage and would challenge myself to make it at least twice the height. Anyone have any tips on actually growing herbs in this bad boy now that its more or less complete? submitted by /u/Servitus to r/gardening [link] [comments]

The scariest herbs I have ever encountered
I've been to many places in the world, researched a lot about different plant's. I honestly don't have any botanist friends that I can share this information with so I said, "hey, I'm a witch, people on reddit are witches, [some] witches like botany," and then things spiraled out of control and now I wrote an entire post about it. I hope you find this interesting, but you should take things with a grain of salt. It'll make more sense if I explain This is a post to inform everybody about the scariest plants that I've seen out in the wild. You don't need to use herbs in your craft but I think it would be fun if I could talk to you about it. If you actually want to learn so useful information about herbs, go to this post instead: 10 Essential Herbs For Your Daily Practical Magick It's helpful to know herbal medicine no matter who you are, but especially as a witch. There's two sides a coin with magic. My grandmother taught me this phrase that I follow throughout my craft, "To know how to hex you need to learn how to heal." So as a witch you understand balance around you. With every breath in there is a breath out. So when I was researching these plants, everything I learned about balance was thrown out the window. The herbs that are used as an antiseptic relieve minor burns and cuts, but that's as much as it can be used for in medicine. But a plant that has feels like your touching the surface of the sun, there is no competition. And yes, that is a real plant. So let's talk about these herbs for a little bit Some of the herbs I'm about to talk about have not been used in witchcraft, but with the research done on them it's easy to piece where and how'd they'd be used. That being said, you shouldn't use these plant just for potions and spells, imagine drinking a potion with the root of you-touch-me-and-you-surely-will-burn plant listed above. Some of these plants aren't used in witchcraft, but i thought it would be fun for you to know about. All of the herbs have interesting effects and the human body, and I'm just hear to tell you about it. With my little introduction finished, I present you with the list of The Most Scary Plants I Have Ever Encountered from least scary to most scary, now in technicolor. I'm free to answer questions after the show. The Scariest Herbs I Have Ever Encountered Datura Stramonium Also known as "Thorn Apple," Datura is an annual plant that is entirely toxic, root to flower. When ingested, Datura's hallucinogenic property causes delirium and possibly death. Because of this, Datura is often used in "love potions," (I swear if you use this in a love potion). These symptoms usually take effect in 1 - 4 hours after it's been consumed. If Datura poisoning isn't taken care of, rhabdomyolysis will take effect, breaking down damaged skeletal muscles. When Datura is ingested in small amounts the hallucinogenic effects are similar to that of marijuana, but don't do it. Many people have died from using Datura as a recreational drug because they were not informed. The benefits of Datura is that it can it's an effective pain reviler in moderation. Datura can be prepared as powdered seeds (1/2 a grain), powdered leaves (1 grain), a juice or an extract (1 grain), seed extract (from 1/4 to 1/2 grain), and a tincture (from 15 to 20 drops). It can be brewed in a tea by boiling the roots and seeds of the plant. I plan to start using this in my craft, not for love potions, but as an offering. By offering away the Datura fruit you get rid of the poison of terror, rivalry, and wicked nature so that one can receive happiness. This is a fantastic offering to Lord Shiva. Ricinus Known as the "Castor Bean," Ricinus one of the more dangerous plants that comes to mind. Eating just 8 de-skinned castor beans is enough to kill you. Though a plant like hemlock has more concentrated poison, when the plant burns it lets out fumes of poison that can know you out for weeks at a time. Castor bean can be made into an oil that treats for constipation. It works by increasing the movement of the intestines. It can be made into an oil in a variety of ways. Definitely not the way I'd want to go out. At least Datura just sits there for hours before killing you, Ricinus is craving for you to be knocked out. I'd choose Datura over Ricinus any day, not because of the hallucinogenic properties though.... Arum Triphyllum The coveted hot as a the sun plant is called the fitting name, "Dragons Breath." Every part of Arum is so violently acrid that it's almost caustic. So, it burns skin. When the fresh roots of the Arum are gently touched to the tongue, mouth, eyes, or any secreting surface, the plant irritates the skin causing a burning that has the has the force of every cayenne pepper you can think of. Despite many safety concerns, after Arum is thoroughly dried, it can be used to treat colds and swelling in the throat. Imagine eating the spiciest thing you can think of and multiply it by the largest number you can think of. That's what Arum feels like. The "drawback" to Arum is that it only last's a minute after harvesting. You can preserve the "heat" by suspending it in alcohol. Once it's dried though, Arum can be used in cooking and in tea. That's what I love about this plan't Dendrocnide moroides Known as "gympie gympie," Dendrocnide's stinging hair will cause excruciating pain you if you stumble into it. Gympie's leaves have miniature stinging hairs on it's leaves. When the leaf is brushed against, the tiny hairs lodge them-self into one's skin. It releases toxins that cause immense pain, this pain is so much that it can even cause death. Gympie fruit is edible to humans once the stinging hair are removed. Manchineel tree The Manchineel is a flowering plant species and everything about it is extremely toxic. If you even touch one of the leaves, it will cause "a strong allergic dermatitis." It's so bad that, if you stay under the tree's foliage while it's raining, the water will cause instant blistering wherever it touches you. The Manchineel tree provides no uses. It's effective in studying pain medication, but aside from that it's not of much use. What did we learn? Everything is scary and we should never go near anything ever again? No. Honestly you might not ever encounter any of these species in the wild at all. The cool thing is that some of these plants can be used in your craft. Obviously not to kill anybody, but Datura fruit can be used to get rid of your pain by offering it to the wild, it'll take your pain with it. This took a substantial part of my day out, so I really hope you enjoyed learning about interesting plants. Please proceed the comment section in an orderly fashion. I've edited the post b/c people thought I was gatekeeping, and I realized that to late. submitted by /u/progrsis to r/witchcraft [link] [comments]
