My mini dachshund had dental work done and this is how the vet cut his nails. I’ve never seen dog nails so short. I can see the quick on several. Would there be a legit reason for this? What it says in the title. I measured my polishes before ordering and the listing said the shelf gaps would be 8cm (not including the actual shelves), which would be just tall enough for my polishes, but the gaps are actually 7.3cm, so they lied basically and now I’ve wasted my money. OK so, I know this is far from the norm but I am a shorties gal to the core. I have tried growing my nails out a lot over the past few years but ultimately have found that A.) long nails do not fit my lifestyle and B.) I actually prefer the way most polishes look on me personally when me nails are short. In fact, often times if I try a new polish and find it’s just not hitting right, it’s usually because a let my nails grow out too long and if I cut them down a bit I find I like the polish more. First pic here is my current mani, the day after application. Second pic is a few days later, same hand, after cutting and reshaping again. The problem I am having now though is that my nails still look too long for my preference. I want more squat, square shaped shorties (whole nail) like the ones in my last two pictures. But MY nails are always rectangular; is this a result of my nail bed shape? My cuticles are also as wide as my free edge; that’s weird right? I wish they were narrow at the cuticle and then flared out more at the free edge. I can’t really cut them any shorter than the second pic, because then I start having issues with the quick. Anyone have any other suggestions? I know I have seen posts asking about how to make your nail beds look longer, but is there a way to make them look shorter if that’s your preference? Or should I focus more on my free edge shaping? Any tips or ideas would be very much appreciated! I’m so upset! I have a trip on Monday so I’m going to have to get them repainted (by a different tech and salon) before I leave. They tried two different techniques and both looked horrible, so they tried this third one, by which time I just wanted to leave and cry (slight exaggeration, I know it’s not the end of the world), but I have been to this salon over 20 times over the past few years and never had a bad experience. I love getting acrylics because it lasts so much longer but I’m really fed up of having long nails. i learned that the skin under your nails is a big part of how your nail beds appear. i have a habit of picking under my nails with metal tools and my own nails which i always thought would maybe just weaken the nails at worst but i never realized i completely messed up my hyponychium (skin under nails). is there a way to grow this back even though ive been picking under my nails for YEARS? i thought it was just genetics that made the whites of my nails start pretty far back on my fingertip but it might just be because of my bad habit. let me know if you have any experience or advice! submitted by /u/Previous-Stay-912 to r/Nails [link] [comments]

I’ve been audiobooking lesser known (or lesser known to me anyway) stuff by authors whom I’ve read their most famous works, a lot of them stuff I had to read in school. I’d never read any of her other shorts stories other than “The Lottery” in highschool English class. I already loved gothic like Flannery O’Connor, and I can’t believe I’ve totally snoozed on Jackson for so long! If you haven’t read it (you should- it’s hella short- and again mild spoilers, though it’s not like there’s really anything to spoil, it’s basically just a scene there’s no real climax/resolution) it’s about a white kid who brings his black friend home for lunch. The white mom asks the black kid a series of questions where she clearly thinks she’s being supportive, is in tune with what she thinks are universal realities of blackness, and the kid is confused at every turn why she’s asking such stupid questions. Like- “your dad must have to be big and strong to work at a factory” “not really, he’s the foreman”. And she’s clearly getting a little annoyed/confused. It ends with her offering the kid charity, him turning it down because “we can buy most everything we need” and her getting actually miffed that he said no. Again the kid is super confused and gets a bit worried that he made her mad even though he has no clue what he did wrong and this horrendously racist “I’m-not-racist” do-gooder white liberal says “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed”. (this comment fills out details I missed from my memory!) And the beautiful part is how she hears the kids talk it out when they think she can’t hear. Seriously, if you’ve even been confused by the difference between “I’m not racist” and “I’m anti-racist”, this is the primer for you. (A few people have pointed out it’s “deep seated”. Thanks for pointing it out, but I’ve got t now. Learn something every day!) Edit 2: I’ve explained this too many times to individuals in this thread so I’m putting this explainer about not-racist vs anti-racist here. (Spoiler alert: no, it doesn’t involved burning private property lmao). Also- I didn’t add that image? Wade explains that the only chance the hedge funds make it out of this is if they stretch out the squeeze over months and years to make people lose interest and sell. He also explains that in the event the hedge funds go bankrupt and the DTCC has to step in and clear the books that there is a chance that they might try to settle the remaining shorted shares. Why settling the shares is NOT in the best interest of the government is because the the whole world is watching now to see how they will regulate the situation. Everyone from long whales, international investors, retail investors are betting on the money to print and if the government decides to step in, settle the shares and stop the squeeze it is going to piss off international investors and make them pull out of the US Stock Market. So according to Wade's DD. It is in the governments best interest to let the money print because this has drawn the attention of the whole world now. That's the type of confirmation bias I need.
