RE:CAD and Slicer design techniques
Also foam brush coating ABS like UV printer resin helps alot to keep layers together. I use a UV curing light from Amazon for curing. The surface is tacky when cured, so I wash with acetone and a rag. Add in corn starch baby powder to make it into a filler. A box cutter utility blade works great for spreading this paste.

UV resin toxicity
Hi! I have a few questions. I've posted before asking how toxic resin is. My sister uses it, and I just feel unsafe with it in the house. I've told my mom about everything before, but it seems like she hasn't really listened. I don't want to talk directly to my sister because she'll start yelling and getting defensive. So basically, she switched to UV resin now (She used to use epoxy). I think she uses it mainly for a coating on her clay earrings. 1.) How toxic is UV resin? I know epoxy resin is very toxic, but with UV resin, I keep getting different answers when I try to look it up. 2.) Is it safe to use it in your bedroom? Do the fumes travel outside of the room? she uses gloves and a basic mask (which I know is unsafe, I've told my mom this, but apparently it's not a big deal) 3.) I know resin is one of those things where repeated exposure to it will eventually make you allergic to it, but does it make you allergic to anything else? My sister has been getting random allergies/sensitivities to certain things. she keeps getting sick, coughing, etc. thank you! submitted by /u/All_I_Do_Is_Upgrade to r/resin [link] [comments]

BF bought a UV resin printer and I’m concerned about health risks
My boyfriend bought a UV resin printer (an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra), and I have some concerns about it and would be grateful for some advice and insight. We live together in a fairly small apartment (~50 square meters / ~538 square feet) and plan to get a cat in the future, so keeping our space safe is very important to me. The printer sits in his office, which is small (~6 sqm / ~20 sqft) with one small window. When he used it the first time the fumes and smell initially spread out in the entire apartment, and after some googling I found out that the fumes from these printers are highly toxic, and forum threads that I found online on the topic seemed to have a consensus that these kinds of printers were not ideal for apartments because of this. While the research on the health risks are, from my understanding, still limited (especially long term risks), allergies, respiratory issues and potential carcinogenic particles have been noted. BF has purchased two filtered masks for us, but I do not like the idea of having to use a gas mask to exist safely in our home. BF was initially inside his office while printing with the window cracked open and a protective gas mask on. However after listening to my concerns he has agreed to not be in his office while the printer is running, keep the door to the office closed, and have the window in there open as much as possible. This seems to work okay-ish, but there is still some light smell in the living room, despite the window in there also being open as much as possible (the living room window is on the same side as his office window so this might be why). We live in a cold climate, so this is not ideal for winter times due to the cold, but I can bundle up. BF has upon my request started looking into buying an enclosure for the printer, which is from my understanding sort of a tent which will help contain the fumes and lead them out the window through a tube? There seems to be some issue finding one available so it might take a while, and I’m considering asking him to refrain from using the printer until he gets one. However, I’m unsure how much this will still expose us (or any neighbours living above us) to the fumes still. And I still feel uneasy about it despite the adjustments which I have a hard time shaking off. BF has been incredibly accommodating and understanding of my worries, and I feel terrible for putting a damper on his new hobby. Despite the precautions taken and accommodations he has made, I’m anxious that it won’t be enough to mitigate any potential health risks from the fumes, especially if we bring a cat into the apartment in the future. As previously mentioned, we do also have neighbours living above us, and they also have windows right above our office window. At this point I am not sure if I am overly cautious about this or if my concerns are valid? Are there any other ways we can mitigate the risks which lets him continue printing? He is so excited and happy about his printer and I really don’t want to ask him to get rid of it. TL;DR Boyfriend bought a 3D-printer for our small apartment and despite him taking precautions and being very accommodating I am still concerned about potential health risks from the toxic fumes and would love some advice or input. EDIT: I forgot to mention that he also bought a curing station (not sure of the model but it's the same brand), which he uses isopropyl alcohol to cure the printed items with. UPDATE: Thank you so much everyone who's taken the time to reply and share their thoughts and experiences! I shared this thread with bf and we will talk about how to proceed when he comes home from work, I appreciate all of you a lot! submitted by /u/Singoritm to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]

Unlucky in UV resin, what tips do you have?
Posting pics of all the UV resin I have tried and do not have good luck with as well as my different lamps. I only use UV resin on some of my polymer clay jewelry pieces, some have been more runny/liquid and some lead to withdrawing from the edges after application. But my main problem is, I feel like I can never get these to fully cure unless the planets are all aligned just so. I could put them under a UV lamp for hours and yet they are still slightly tacky. I don't live in a primarily sunny area (KY in the US) but if I have pieces to do and it's sunny out, I'll even put them in the sun for the day and come back and they are still sticky?! I am not sure what to do atp, maybe different brand or my watts aren't strong enough on my lamps but I need and would love suggestions. Also I am not opposed to trying regular resin, non-uv type but just curious on best brands of that as well if you have a favorite. Thank you! submitted by /u/Happy_Charge_9410 to r/resin [link] [comments]

Question about curing UV resin
hello polymer clay people! so I've only been doing mini clay desk friends for about a year now, but I've only recently started using UV resin(around December). The thing is I have no idea exactly how long I should let it cure for under a UV lamp...I've seen 2-3 mins, 5-10 mins, even up to 30 mins. I'll attach a photo to show the size of the figure. Does the size of the figure matter? How long exactly should I cure my little desk friends for? submitted by /u/Owllendale to r/polymerclay [link] [comments]

uv resin is ruining everything
HI! i've been using UV resin to coat my air dry pieces, and at first is was turning out great until after a few weeks I noticed small yellow patches everywhere. it's never the whole piece only in little spots. I don't why its doing this, I reached out to JDiction and they sent me a new batch of resin and its still happening. I've been troubleshooting this for weeks and still getting the same results so idk at this point? I haven't found anyone else with this same problem, so I must be doing something wrong. I've tried just using polyurethane or PVA wood glue as a sealer, and its fine, but there are some pieces I really want to use resin for. I use either crayola air dry clay or DAS clay (both have the same problem) I let my pieces fully dry for at least 4-5 days. I prime with gesso and use acrylic paints, which also fully dry for a few days. I use thin coats of JDiction resin and cure using a 36W uv lamp. PLEASE HELP this is the first time I've ever stuck with a hobby so long, and its doing wonders for my mental health but this part is frustrating me so much I'm about ready to quit. submitted by /u/DogInternational1214 to r/airdryclay [link] [comments]

What’s a good alternative to uv resin?
My uv resin has been giving me hell and just takes forever to cure and I just don’t really wanna use it. But I’d like something that looks like it and seals the paint really well. I’m NOT using modge podge because it just becomes sticky and dust/hair loves glueing itself to my creations. Figured that out the hard way! (My resin light is new and so is my resin, they are from the same company and they are compatible with each other so idk what that deal is. It takes about 4 mins on each side which may not seem long but it is when I have lots of orders to do and multiple sides to my figurines.) submitted by /u/SnooPandas2808 to r/polymerclay [link] [comments]

How do so many people use UV resin so casually? Where is the protection???
Every day on tiktok, instagram, here, etc, I see people use UV resin with absolutely no PPE? Do people just not know????? It always shocks me despite seeing it nonstop. I saw someone doing it in their bedroom with their pets right next to them! Also seeing so many people sanding polymer clay without PPE as well. Is it just me or is anyone else confused???? Losing my mind. *posting in polymer clay as so many use it as a varnish for it which is what I am seeing primarily submitted by /u/notkinz to r/polymerclay [link] [comments]

It's crazy what a thin layer of UV resin can do.
I was trying to think of new ways smooth out a fresh print without having to sand it and this was a pleasant surprise. It's supposed to be a 40K Purity Seal so it has a nice waxy look now. Going to have to paint one Red before coating it. I did buy Mod Podge to try as a sealer so it'll be neat to compare how the 2 are. submitted by /u/Skeletal_Roach to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]
