RE:What have you made lately?
I'm happy you went right to the modeling part, because that's really what 3d printing is, imo. People naturally think 3d printing is about buying the right machine, or tuning settings, material type....pffft...that stuff is all nonsense. The effort surrounding 3d printing, is modeling. I'm using OnShape, but my projects are really simple, squares and circles and whatnot.

Fully 3D Printed Life Size Horus
5 months and 1752 individual 3d printed pieces later, I have a Horus Lupercal. Quick stats: Total tip top height: 14’ 5” | 4.4m Top of Horus’s head: 11’ 9” | 3.6m Human: 5’ 5” | 165cm Why not paint him before assembling? This isn’t a mini 😁. A practical was the only way to see what issues will pop up, if it can even support itself, if something will break or if I need to reinforce something. Better for something to happen now, than to waste weeks painting only to find out it all falls apart. He is missing his talon, but a combination of me not thinking through access and not enough floor height, I could not add it yet. Even the Worldbreaker is at a slightly higher level due to the pallets. It’s not flush in the arm. So I had to use cords to hold it for now. I did have to saw a portion of his leg armor off as it was interfering with his forearm. These things I couldn’t account for in theory. His arms and pauldrons are held in place with rods, hooks and a massive heavy duty turnbuckle. Basically the same exact set up in my space marine, but beefier. There is no additional support in his legs. Just straight up hollow plastic. I will have a more detailed post in the future regarding cost, filament, weight, waste and other technical details for this project. submitted by /u/HammerDoris40k to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]

Built a 3D printed prototype that makes protein drinks automatically
Concept/prototype I’ve been working on for a few months! Its still a work in progress. It uses an auger to dispense powder, a liquid reservoir for water (housed in the body), and a magnetic stirrer underneath the cup (like chem lab stir plates) for mixing. Load cells under the hopper measure the mass of powder dispensed, and an arduino controls everything. (prototype only - final materials wouldn't be PLA for food contact) EDIT: wow ya'll thanks! Just some clarifications: I don't think the final version of this would be printed at all, it would have to be manufactured properly. This was just an idea I thought would be interesting to build. submitted by /u/dr_tennis to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]

Just completed 100 orders for my 3D printing business 🎉
Started with one machine and a lot of trial and error. There were plenty of failed prints, wasted filament, and pricing mistakes along the way 😅. But slowly, word of mouth kicked in and repeat customers started coming back. That first bulk order felt unreal. Super grateful to everyone who chose a small business. Still a long way to go, but this feels like a solid milestone. For those who’ve scaled further, what should I focus on next? Marketing? More machines? Niche specialization? On to the next 100 🚀 submitted by /u/ZHart26 to r/smallbusinessindia [link] [comments]

To everyone making actual money from 3D printing
I have been running my printer non-stop and thinking and there is gotta be a way to turn this hobby into side income or maybe even more and so here is what I am dying to know from those of you who have cracked the code, So what are you actually selling that people buy. Are they custom stuff, trending items, or niche products nobody else is making. Also the big question is where do your files come from? Are you designing everything from scratch in CAD, buying premium models from creators, finding gems on printbles/thingverse and adding your own spin, or commissioning custom designs from fivver or other gig platforms? I am not looking to copy anyone's hustle but just genuinely curious about what is working out there and whether you are making $50 per month or $5kper month and would love to hear your story. What is your setup and how did you find your profitable niche? submitted by /u/Fun_Reaction_6525 to r/3DPrinterComparison [link] [comments]

A Fully 3D Printed Ultramarine
Finally finished (90%) with my fully 3d printed life-size space marine, finished in a not a close enough Macragge Blue or gold, but it’ll do. For those that want the cliff notes, here it is; -A lot of parts could have been printed better -Assembly was an issue at first due to not following order -Not enough sanding, too many types of filling products and attempting techniques -Paint is not the right color, paint quality suffered a lot due to inexperience Full self-review below: If I had to rate the overall look and finish, I’d say a solid 10/10 from 30 feet away. But no, it’s like a 4/5 out of 10. There are a lot of things I learned in the process, and it clearly shows.. in bad way. But, most of everything done was a do it first and figure it out as I go. This being my first large scale 3D print, there was a lot of trial and error to figure out the best printing profile. From there, it was the finding the right glue, soldering technique, etc. That combined shows a lot of surface imperfections, offset pieces and quality of a few parts. The assembly is where a lot when wrong. I used an expanded picture to build, instead of following the assembly sheet (not surprising, me being a girl and all). That made things challenging when adding bigger sections together as they did not fit as smoothly. Sanding and filling were also a pain as I should have sanded a bit more and did a few more rounds of filling. That alone took a bit of trial and error as I was looking for the best filling solution that would work for all future prints. In the end, a patch work of filling products and attempts. Now we get to painting, not proud at all. First, the color is not as close as I would like it to be. The surface finish is okay in some parts and bad in others. But that is also affected by the print quality of a few pieces. I messed up a lot here. Too thick of paint, too watery, spraying too fast or slow, too high of pressure. I needed to sand sections or parts and try again. My masking skills (lack of) shows. Even though it did not look like how I intended it to, it served as a real test to learn all the skills I will need and will continue to improve upon. It was a fun overall experience from start to finish. Absolutely something that keeps me entertained and provides a word of challenges. Hopefully Horus comes out better lol j/k. submitted by /u/HammerDoris40k to r/Warhammer40k [link] [comments]

My Largest 3D print..
This is about as much Horus I can fit under my roof. He is mostly finished, just missing some skulls and that roman skirt type thing he has as a front cover. At his waist he stands at 8’ 9” (2.7m). This does not include the key part that will connect his upper torso, as that will be hidden. Me = 5’ 5” (1.68m) Life size banana to the crown = 6’ 4” (1.9m) Real banana = 7” (18cm) Half of Horus is made up of 594 individual 3D printed pieces that have been glued and soldered. At the moment, I am working on his upper torso which is about 226 pieces. Weight wise, it’s not too bad. The feet/boots move about easily. I can lift the thighs up and place them on top. The waist section is doable, but I need to make sure the legs are properly spaced before I lift it over my head, while standing on a chair. Not best way to do it. The real test will come once I am done with his upper half. At that point, I need to figure out a safe way to place that section onto the lower half. submitted by /u/HammerDoris40k to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]

How I mitigate my 3D printing waste
I read somewhere that if you care about waste, then 3d printing isn't for you. I took that as a challenge. This is my process for limiting my waste. It doesn't take me down to zero, but its way better than just trashing it all. White wasn't the best choice for this demo, but it was what i was doing when i thought to post it so it is what it is. I use these trinkets i make as gifts in the box when people buy my stuff along with a thank you card for buying from me and an explanation of the trinket. They are basically a legacy of the journey that the product went on before coming into their hands. before anyone gets on me about the cost of running a toaster oven for an hour, I'm kinda lucky in that I went solar a few years ago and my power is free and excessive. Thanks for checking this out. If you care to see some of my designs you can follow me on instagram and facebook at /navycow submitted by /u/navycow to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]
