Why are Chemist Warehouse staff so rude? Why can't we get service there?
People always say that the staff at Chemist Warehouse are rude and that the service is bad. In all honesty I understand why people would see the staff in this light. On behalf of workers from Chemist Warehouse, there are some truths you need to know. Chemist warehouse is in the same category as JB HI FI, Coles/Woolworths as a pharmacy. When you go into JB HI FI, Coles or Woolworths, what sort of customer service do you expect, if any? Chemist warehouse is a BUDGET pharmacy that also happens to sell fragrances and similar products you would find in Woolworths and Coles exception is of course most food. Chemist Warehouse is literally a warehouse shop hybrid. Whilst Chemist Warehouse is a pharmacy and has the obligation to provide a standard of service when it comes to health products, health services & scripts, the same expectation and obligation does not necessarily apply on the shop floor. Staff members who are not in dispensary(scripts counter) are the floor staff. Their primary job and priority is to stack the shelves in their designated aisles keep the shelves fully stocked and have the aisles neat and tidy at all times. Staff members must serve customers only in their designated aisles. If the customer requires service in another aisle, the customer must go to that other aisle and approach the staff member in that aisle. There are times where there may not be someone there to help and depending on what section, it is not as simple as getting some one to help. Staff members from other sisles cannot necessarily leave their designated area to help in another. For example cosmetics at some stores may not always have a staff member rostered on for that day. Not everyone has in depth knowledge about cosmetics. Depending on the request the customer may not be able to be assisted. We just advise customers to use the testers and the cleansing wipes. Floor staff have their performance measured by the neatness and fullness of their aisles. If there are too many gaps in the aisles, that is seen as a missed sales opportunity. They turn over more sales by having shelves full than walking around the store with a customer. The other priority is to attend to registers to pump transactions through. Floor staff are not personal shoppers. Floor staff don't have in depth knowledge about every single item in the store. People who come to Chemist Warehouse cannot expect the same service they would recieve from a small independent pharmacy. People who come to Chemist Warehouse to purchase cosmetics should not be expecting the same product knowledge or service that they would receive at David Jones or Mecca. Next time you come in to a CW just stand back and observe. Watch a busy aisle such as skincare, vitamins, baby and even the personal hygiene (incontinence) aisles and you will see how fast these aisles get emptied. How frantically the staff are restocking. Just remember the pressure these staff members are under. The CW marketing won't mention this but customers are not a top priority. If you want to recieve 1 on 1 service, if you want to recieve in depth knowledge from the same person across various products then you are better off going to a small independent pharmacy or in the case of cosmetics stores like Mecca. There is no retailer where all the criteria will be met. A retailer can have a lot of stores available and cheap prices but the service will not be there. A retailer can have cheap prices and premium service but there are only limited stores or you have to be a member and pay a membership fee. A retailer can have premium service and plenty of stores but it is not going to be cheap for customers. CW is cheap with many stores but the service is not premium. TLDR; Chemist Warehouse staff may appear rude but unless you have worked there or know some who has, you need to know the truth. CW is not obligated to give customers premium service. Turn over of stock and the high volume of POS transactions are the priority. Most of the floor staff at CW are just your shelf stackers in a designated aisles. submitted by /u/Dont_L00kDown to r/australian [link] [comments]

Chemist Warehouse sent my prescription info to my dad. I’m an adult.
I recently had a script filled at Chemist Warehouse, and they sent a notification about it to my dad and included information about the medicine in the message. I’m an adult, and the only reason his number was even on my account is because it was added over 10 years ago when I was a young kid. The script I had filled was linked to my number so I don’t understand why they would use a number from over 10 years ago instead. This wasn’t something I’d expect anyone else to be notified about, it’s private medical info, and I never gave consent as an adult for that to happen. I didn’t even know his number was still linked to my profile. I’ve now called and updated my account details so it won’t happen again, but the damage is already done. Surely this is a privacy breach? Do pharmacies have any responsibility to update or verify contact details once someone turns 18? And does this potentially violate Australian privacy laws? Would really appreciate any insight. Edit: So from my understanding from the comments, I should’ve just known that there was a number linked to my account from many years ago, and since I didn’t even know it’s my fault. submitted by /u/Repulsive_Couple_574 to r/AusLegal [link] [comments]

What I got in my $5 lucky dip bag from Chemist Warehouse
So I decided to treat myself to a $5 lucky dip bag while filling my prescription at CW (god I hate having eczema). I figured it would be mostly clearance stock with a few samples but of the things I got, only 3 didn't explicitly say "Free sample. Not for sale" 💀 I will actually use everything I got (except maybe the croc charm lmao) and it is only $5 at the end of the day so I'm not sure what I was expecting! I probably wouldn't repurchase though. I know basically every beauty retailer gives out these samples as gifts with purchase but it feels different when you pay for it. What do y'all think? Is this even legal? I miss when free samples were actually free 😭 submitted by /u/violetgrumble to r/AusSkincare [link] [comments]

Ran into spanian at chemist warehouse
I ran into Spanian at a Chemist Warehouse in western Sydney yesterday. I clocked him in the aisle and decided not to say anything, because I didn’t want to be that guy. As I walked past, he looked at me, smirked, and said, “Relax, I know,” even though I hadn’t done anything. I said it was cool seeing him in person and that I wasn’t trying to bother him. He laughed at me then picked up a bottle of vitamins and put it back in the exact same spot but sideways. I went to grab deodorant. When I came back toward the front, Spanian was at the counter arguing with the cashier about returns. He was trying to return three half-used colognes with no receipt. The cashier explained, very politely, that she couldn’t accept opened products. He said, “I didn’t open them, I experienced them.” She said no again. He sighed loudly and said, “That’s crazy,” then asked if he could at least keep spraying the testers “until he felt compensated.” She told him to stop. She scanned his other items which were Mouth wash, protein powder and a clearly opened container of pre workout that he had been casually eating scoops of in between argument When she gave him the total, he said, “Wow,” stared at the screen for a long time, then asked if that price was “with or without respect.” She said it was just the price. He paid, took the bag, then turned back and said, “No offence, but Chemist Warehouse used to be better,” like she personally invented it. He then genuinely stood there for about 10 seconds making direct eye contact with me while licking the pre workout spoon clean As he walked out, the automatic doors didn’t open straight away. He stood there for a second and said, “Unbelievable,” before they opened like they were apologising. I bought my deodorant and left in silence submitted by /u/Agreeable_Leek6612 to r/spanian [link] [comments]

Chemist warehouse emergency contraception nightmare
I've bought EC twice from CW and both times it's been an awful experience. The first time they made me fill out a page long form and buy and take a pregnancy test because I couldnt remember my last period. The next time I made my boyfriend go in because CW is a hell hole and is always packed. The pharmacist said he couldn't buy it and I would have to come in. he offered to let the pharmacist call me so I could answer his questions but he said that wasn't possible. We ended up going to priceline and they were a bit better but still asked me personal questions in front of all the other customers. I don't understand, they have a consult room. Why not use that to ask me personal questions about my period and when I had sex? I read some articles that seem to suggest that filling out the form is unecessary and can be a barrier to obtaining EC and also that talking over the phone is fine when you can't come in. Is every pharmacy like this??? I'm so frustrated I feel like the way im treated is so shameful. https://www.australianpharmacist.com.au/ethics-case-study-supplying-medication-to-a-3rd-party/ https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/aug/30/emergency-contraception-form-pharmacies-chemists-australia submitted by /u/mangosandwich to r/sydney [link] [comments]

Ink Nurse: How our small Aussie business performed in our first 12 months in Chemist Warehouse! The reality of life after getting your brand stocked in a national retailer...
L-R: Lily Parker - Tattoo Artist / Ink Nurse Owner, Jason Taylor - Founder + CEO of Ink Nurse, Lisa Carroll - Native Extracts Founder and Aussie cosmetic formulation/ingredient pioneer. Hey all 😊 I’m the founder of the Aussie tattoo aftercare company called Ink Nurse. We recently completed our first 12 months in Chemist Warehouse (Australia’s biggest pharmacy chain), and I wanted to share an unfiltered breakdown of what actually happens when a small product business enters national retail. Ink Nurse generated a whopping $3.8m in consumer sales revenue for Chemist Warehouse in just our first year, but... there is a lotttt more that comes with it than just big sales numbers. And i'll do my best to elaborate here, in the hopes of helping other Aussie founders out if they find themselves in this position too. This isn’t a sales post, it’s a detailed operational, financial, and founder-experience perspective for anyone scaling a physical product business. I just hope this might help some people! 🙏 PSA: Sorry it’s long, but I put a lot of thought and time into this, so hopefully this isn’t too boring of a read! 1. The day you get the “yes” is the beginning, not the milestone. Getting ranged felt huge… my team, my family, we all celebrated. It’s a huge achievement, don’t get me wrong. But I soon realised what it actually meant: - 6+ months of preparation, - Cash tied up in inventory, - Freight invoices before revenue, - Legal reviews, - Category compliance, - Packaging changes, - EDI setup, - Strict timelines, - Everything needs to be right on the first go. Retail is not so much of an “opportunity” as it’s a system you plug into, and if you can’t execute, the system spits you out. It’s a HUGE gamble on your ability to execute as a founder and your systems. 2. Cashflow becomes a chess game. Everyone warns you about retail payment terms, but it still hits harder than expected. - You ship stock today, - You pay your manufacturer today, - You pay freight upfront, - You pay 3PL to receive and pick/pack, - Only then, 45–60 days later, the retailer pays you. If your runway isn’t prepared for that, the partnership breaks before it begins. Key lesson: We had to separate “revenue” from “cashflow reality.” Year one felt like we were constantly sprinting uphill with a boulder. We took on debt to fund the first few PO’s. (Spoiler: If you can execute, and your products sell: then you will get back on top, in our case, it was in a big way 🥲) 3. Forecasting is suddenly make-or-break. Before retail: - We forecast what we hoped to sell. After retail: - We forecast what we must produce to maintain a national footprint. Running out of stock is not a cute “sold out” moment in retail. It’s a red flag. Retail forecasting has its own rhythm: - Historical sell-through, - Seasonal patterns, - Planogram resets, - Promo cycles, - Store count increases, - Substitution effects, - Product cannibalisation, - Competitor movement. I became way more obsessed with supply chain than marketing. 4. The product the market chooses is rarely the one you predict. We make multiple SKUs, and have 3 tattoo aftercare products on the shelves of every single Chemist Warehouse in Australia. We have our flagship 100ml tattoo aftercare remedy cream jar, a 200ml tattoo aftercare foam soap wash to cleanse and repair the new tattoo - and we have the worlds largest aftercare cream product: our mega 500ml pump bottle of ink nurse remedy cream. Our products are fortunate to be in the premium eye level shelf space - the placement matters, and it’s something you don’t really have much control over where you’ll end up. And it can make or break you. Customers need to be able to find you. We ended up in the First Aid aisle, next to Bepanthen - the global leader powerhouse big pharma (nasty petrochemical baby rash ointment - NOT made for tattoos) product by Bayer. A German mega conglomerate with endless marketing budgets and deeper pockets than we’ll ever know. A true David Vs Goliath scenario - but we’re fortunate as we secured a multi year contract that locks out any other competition from entering CW. So it’s just us vs big pharma. ⚔️ Anyway, the unlikely breakout success was our 500ml pump, which retails for $99.99. I thought it’d be too big, too much capital outlay for a customer, too niche. Turns out: Australians like value per mL (it’s cheaper than any other product in our market, including notoriously cheap Bepanthen) Ink Nurse = $9.99/50mL compared to $14.00/50mL for Bepanthen. The pump format was easier for daily use and because our cream is much more than just aftercare, it actually replaced a lot of other products in bathrooms, so people didn’t need 5-6 tubes of something for eczema, psoriasis, dry skin, sunburn, tattoo care etc, The artists were recommending it in droves, and, we realised that big sizes stand out more in-store! Lesson: Your “hero product” is what customers decide it is, not what you want it to be. 5. Retail doesn’t magically scale e-commerce! This was one of the biggest wake-up calls. Just because thousands of people buy your product in-store doesn’t mean they suddenly start buying online. Why? - Different convenience model, - Retail price anchoring, - Retail visibility doesn’t equal social visibility, - Retail customers rarely turn into email-subscribed customers, - Retailer promotions override your own. Growing retail and growing e-commerce are two entirely separate disciplines. 6. Category placement determines your entire trajectory. I expected to land in “Skin Care.” We were placed in First Aid, next to Band-Aids and antiseptic cream. At first, I thought it was odd. But something unexpected happened: People hunted for us. Because they had just gotten a fresh tattoo. And First Aid made intuitive sense for something that protects skin. In the end, I wouldn’t have it any other way. That First Aid placement actually gave us some major authority, compared to if we were in the skincare aisles. This changed: - Our in-store audience, - Our messaging, - Our replenish cycles, - Our brand perception, - Our competitors (first aid, not beauty). Sometimes the retailer understands your category better than you do. 7. Operational load increases faster than revenue. The moment you enter retail, your workload becomes: - More regulated, - More operational, - More compliance-heavy, - More spreadsheet-driven, - More logistics-focused, - More deadline-dependent. Even if revenue grows, time pressure grows faster. I had to upgrade: - Our supply chain, - Our financial modelling, - Our customer service, - Our documentation, - Our influencer strategy, - Our cashflow control, - Our stocktake system, - Our internal roles. Retail forces you to become a more serious organisation overnight. 8. Retail success is fragile, and depends on consistent execution. You don’t just “get stocked.” You earn the right to stay stocked, every week. The biggest risks in retail: - Out-of-stock (has happened to us 3x in just ONE YEAR 😳), - Late deliveries (also happened multiple times, this isn’t great - CW publishes every month how us suppliers performed, for everyone to see, - Inconsistent performance, - Category changes, - Competitor promotions, - Location resets, - Cost increases, - Supply chain disruptions. It’s high stakes. 9. The biggest growth driver isn’t always advertising, it’s product quality. We didn’t spend big on retail marketing. We didn’t run overly flashy campaigns. Things that actually grew our retail business: - Tattoo studios recommending the product, - Customer word of mouth, - Clear functional use, - Credible reviews, - Ink Nurse proudly has no petroleum, no irritants, no BS. Focusing on fundamentals beat every algorithm. Nail yours first, and then marketing will amplify. 10. Biggest founder-level takeaways after year one? - Retail isn’t glamorous. It’s logistics. Most of my year was spreadsheets, emails, delays, forecasting, and problem solving. - Growth and stress scale together. If you grow 3×, your stress grows 5×. - You need capital readiness long before the growth shows up. Stock → freight → 3PL → terms → payment → reorder. - You don’t control the shelf. Retailers decide where you sit and how you rotate. - But you can control your product and your execution. And that’s what determines whether you stay. At the end, has it helped my business? ABSOLUTELY. It’s changed my life. We went from $1m~ year in retail sales for the business as a whole, to ink nurse pushing close to $4m in consumer retail sales in CW alone. Ink Nurse revenue jumped to over $5m in Australia because we took that leap and executed (not without major hiccups along the way!). Our business has grown ~ 6x in just one year and we’ve leapfrogged our competition (Dr Pickles) in just the last 12 months. It’s insane and I’m overwhelmed with gratitude, but it’s all about execution. It could’ve broke us and we would’ve folded, but it’s now set us up for these other doors that have opened, like Walmart and other retailers in international markets now onboarding our brand for 2026. I’m happy to answer anything here about retail, cashflow planning, forecasting, or entering major chains. Hope this was insightful with some raw BTS info! I am OVER it, cheap and efficient Chemist Warehouse rec's?
Well clearly I am getting old. Went into Mecca lately and nearly had a goddamn heart attack. Tiny tubs of moisturiser for $60. Mascara's for $50. A foundation that I paid $20 for back in the day is now $70. Now if these products were made with angel tears combined with stardust, I'd understand. If they reversed all signs of aging and made a grandma look like a brand new baby, I'd understand. But we all know they're not. You pay for the brand name, the packaging, and the 'vibes' of the product. Long story short, I am done with it. I don't need an aesthetic bathroom, I don't need special brands of skincare, I need stuff that works. Specifically I need a moisturiser and a cleanser. A 'normal' cleanser and moisturiser. That's all. And in this economy, I need to not spend a fortune on it. submitted by /u/Fit_Cut_5627 to r/AusSkincare [link] [comments]

I just wish to christ they would make the aisles a little more narrow. I'm sure if they put their mind to it each store could fit another row of shelves. submitted by /u/Undertaker-3806 to r/australia [link] [comments]

went to the chemist today to get my prescription filled like i do every month - frustratingly they told me when giving them to me that they had to take out 4 pills from the box bc i was 2 days early, but have to still pay full price. surely this is illegal?? i work during the week & have no time to go to the chemist after work submitted by /u/ltm99 to r/melbourne [link] [comments]

Heated disagreement at chemist warehouse
I was in Geraldton (WA) today and popped into chemist warehouse. They have two remaining 100ml bottles of YSL Y le parfum for $200. It's the old formula, production date was February 2025 so the very last run. Chemist Warehouse website lists the old y le parfum for $170 and the new y le parfum for $200. I explained this to the lad who quickly went and got the expert who came in guns a blazing and informed me that eau de parfum is a different product due to the alcohol content and so on. I showed her that the EDP is a different product with a price tag of $150. I explained the different packaging and bottles used on the 3 different products. I showed the detailed descriptions for each product were different. She just shrugged and said the $170 price is for the EDP and the $200 price is for the le parfum. Frustrated, I left empty handed. submitted by /u/Ebonics_Expert to r/fragranceaustralia [link] [comments]

Something about Chemist warehouse
I'm posting this in the hope that everyone will have a better understanding of Chemist Warehouse. Chemist Warehouse employees generally receive a base salary of Level 1, the legal minimum wage. This applies to part-time employees who have worked for more than two years. Full-time employees move up to Level 2 when they worked more than 2 years, but the pay is only about $1 more. But there is always endless work to do every day, and the boss doesn’t care about your work process, he only looks at the results, so once he thinks you are not doing well, he will criticize you and even ask if the employee has communication barriers. However, countless people come to Chemist Warehouse every day because they find the prices cheap. Since many Chemist Warehouse stores are small, items are packed tightly together, making it difficult for customers to find what they want. Consequently, many customers ask the staff where items are stored. However, the staff often have endless work to do, and are constantly interrupted by customers. This can lead to suspicions of laziness, and complaints about inadequate customer service can also result. Therefore, the turnover rate at Chemist Warehouse is very high. They tend to hire Asians because Asians are more tolerant of bullying at work. So if you go to Chemist Warehouse to buy things, please please please be more tolerant of the employees! Supplement: If work full time at the chemist warehouse, will get a half-hour unpaid lunch break and a 10-minute paid break. Aside from your breaks, there's no place to sit and you're not allowed to have your phone with you while you work. If you want to take sick leave, you must have a medical certificate. If you want to apply for annual leave, you must apply one month in advance. If your boss thinks that your matter does not require annual leave or that you do not need to use a full day of annual leave, you will only be allowed to take a few hours of annual leave. For example, I once felt a fever at work. I reported it to my manager, who said she would find me a thermometer and then report it to the boss. I ended up working for two hours with a fever and was told there was no thermometer. My boss gave me a Panadol and asked if I could still work. I said I was in pain and needed to go home, so they let me go home. I didn't think I needed to provide a medical certificate, so I didn't. As a result, I was on unpaid personal leave on my paycheck. submitted by /u/Neutral--person to r/australian [link] [comments]

Am i the only one tired of being treated like a criminal every time I walk into a chemist warehouse?
As the title says. I'm getting kinda tired of being treated like a criminal every time i walk into a chemist warehouse store when i haven't even done anything. Literally every time i go there I have the security guard following me from aisle to aisle when i literally only just walked in the store. I feel like just going up to em and asking, can i help you?!???? I get stealing is an issue, but surely there is a better solution than having a security guard follow you like a shadow. Like it just makes me so uncomfortable and unnerved. Like I'm here to look for an item i need, but i find myself not being able to even concentrate on that coz of a feeling like I'm going to get jumped by the security guard just for wearing clothing he doesn't like or something. Or for not making eye contact with him. Its like already annoying enough you're greeted with contempt from them when you walk into the place, so no I don't even wanna make eye contact with you fuckers. I just wanna get my shit, pay and leave. Like why you guys following me as if I'm on the FBI's Most Wanted list or something?? Like can i just fucking browse in peace??? Holy shit. You can't even shop in peace these days. It's fkn ridiculous. submitted by /u/Slow_Management9818 to r/AskAnAustralian [link] [comments]

Can we talk about the space in Chemist Warehouse?
Who the hell approved the fucking design layout for Chemist Warehouse? I'm particularly referring to those smaller ones like Coburg and wow, fuck me, Clarendon St one. I cannot stare at a product for longer than 2 seconds without letting someone infront of me or behind me walk past because they can't possibly do it peacefully with the 30cm space provided between me and them. Lady walked behind me today and brushed her shoulder on a bunch of shampoos that dropped on the floor. Is it just me?... Pic included but I swear some stores are narrower than that. submitted by /u/TheBadWife_ to r/melbourne [link] [comments]

Seriously Chemist Warehouse? Pic 1 is from yesterday, pic 2 from today. Blatant jacking up the price and then offering "discount" on a "3 day frenzy sale".

Am I the only one that gets anxiety attacks in Chemist Warehouse?
bright blue unnatural tinge lights multiple screens at the front of the aisles with adverts playing at the same time. Constant talking in your ear. no clear aisle banners like in Coles. absolutely packed of stuff. Idk it's like an information overload. Am I going crazy? submitted by /u/stephenisthebest to r/melbourne [link] [comments]
