They gutted the store and installed supermarket-style aisles ready for the name change to Dollarama. Efficient, but soulless.

For every single holiday, they sell little trinkets. St Paddy's Day, Valentine's Day, Canada Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, etc. But in June, they don't sell any rainbow stuff or LGBT merch. I never really considered Dollarama for groceries before, but I was in yesterday and noticed how drastically lower the food prices were! For example, I eat canned salmon almost every day as part of my lunch. It is almost $5 a can at Walmart and No Frills, but only $2.25 a can at Dollarama! In light of Loblaws' real-estate arm being set to acquire $5 Billion of additional land, I want to show you a clear way in which they raise grocery prices for Canadians. The above is part of a "restrictive covenant" on 650 Portland St in Dartmouth, NS. Because Atlantic Superstore is a tenant, Choice Properties REIT automatically gives them this kind of permission to block the Dollarama on the plaza from discounting "National Brand" non-perishables - like Coke, Evian, Kraft etc. This is a very clear way in which CP REIT and Loblaws enforce a "price floor" for groceries. Context/TLDW - On Feb 28 2026, a security guard at a Winnipeg Dollarama blocked the exit of a shoplifter who was trying to walk out with about $95 worth of merchandise without paying. In response, the shoplifter threatened the guard's life and assaulted him. The guard then restrained the shoplifter, leading to this video where the guard further attacks and threatens the shoplifter while he is restrained. Later, the shoplifter (46) and guard (23) were both arrested and released on conditions to appear in court later. Of note, the guard possessed brass knuckles illegally (it is virtually always illegal for Canadian civilians to carry any object for the purpose of self-defense against humans), hence why one of his charges was possession of a prohibited weapon. Source. Relevant follow-up - Less than two weeks later, this same shoplifter was arrested again at a hotel, for allegedly threatening a security guard at that hotel with a knife. This hotel was across the street from the Dollarama. The CBC observed that the guards then working in the Dollarama, were from a different security company than the one the arrested guard worked for. With prices everywhere still rising, I'm trying to rely more on Dollarama for everyday items, not just party supplies. Right now, with the holiday season winding down, they usually have great deals on storage, cards, and wrapping supplies. Does anyone know why Dollarama seems to be consistently losing 0.5% - 1% daily for the last few weeks? Maybe im just hyperfocusing on it because I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy right at the peak before this correction. Soooo I saw this "Rama Design" pan in Winners at Warden/Eglinton. For anyone who is unfamiliar, Rama Design is one of Dollarama's brands. So I went across the street to the Dollarama and sure enough I found THE EXACT SAME PAN for $5. I am pretty sure Winners put their sticker over the Dollarama price. What was Winners even thinking? We often talk about how supermarkets are literally stealing money from customers with abusive prices, but most of the time without any specific examples. Here are a few comparisons between Loblaw (Independent supermarket) and Dollarama (yellow tags). I took the pictures on the same day and both stores are literally next to each other (midtown), so no time or space factor to explain those differences. All those products are exactly the same, exact same brand and weight.
