I was about to choose Proton Mail for business, but what's with all this hate?
Like seriously, what's the reason behind Proton hate? My wife and I are trying to set up a mailbox for her small business and privacy is her no. 1 priority. Now the thing is that, as soon as I heard the word privacy, Proton Mail was the first name that came to my mind. But when I researched deeper into this, I came to notice that a lot of people criticize it for deliverability and especially for not working properly on mobile. The worst thing is that the more I read about it, the more of mixed opinions I find. I see the situation, I landed on a conclusion that yes, Proton might not be as convenient as gmail or outlook but when it comes to privacy, should proton not be a default choice than gmail and outlook combined? And if this is actually true, then why do people HATE IT SO MUCH? As, I do not want another proton mail vs gmail debate or any bot/promotional replies here, I really want to know if Proton Mail will be the best out of the worst choices out there when it comes to privacy? I am expecting some practical experiences and suggestions here from the people who have used or switched to proton mail before. submitted by /u/manpan93 to r/businessemail [link] [comments]

Switching from Gmail to Proton Mail just got easier (for individuals)
Hi everyone, We've made some updates to Proton Mail that make it easier than ever to ditch Google for you, your friends, and your family. Bring your Gmail into Proton Mail You can now connect your Gmail account to send + receive emails directly inside Proton Mail. Reply from your Gmail address without switching apps Existing and incoming Gmail messages appear in Proton Mail. Emails between Gmail accounts connected to Proton Mail are end-to-end encrypted. Google cannot read them. Actions taken in Proton (archiving, deleting, folders) are not reflected back in Gmail. Incoming Gmail messages are stripped of trackers and ads. Disconnect your Gmail at any time. If you're managing multiple inboxes, this makes it easier to transition to Proton Mail. This feature is now available to Visionary users. The rest of the rollout is gradual, so if you don't have access yet, keep an eye out. We know this doesn't solve everything. This feature exists to make leaving Google smooth, easy, and at your own pace. Sent and received emails from your Gmail address still can pass through Google's servers, so be sure to keep sensitive communications on Proton. Over time, you can switch everything that matters to Proton Mail, then drop Gmail for good. More info in our blog: https://proton.me/blog/proton-mail-connect-gmail This is part of our ongoing work to make switching to Proton Mail more practical. Currently, this feature supports Gmail accounts. If you don't use Gmail, you can still import your email from Outlook, Yahoo, and Apple Mail using our existing import tool. We're looking into adding more providers over time. It would be great to hear how you've handled switching (or why you haven't). Let us know in the comments below. And as always, stay safe, Proton Team Gmail does not see your real address. The request for access comes via Proton and we do not pass your email info to Google. submitted by /u/Proton_Team to r/ProtonMail [link] [comments]

Proton is not worth it. If you value your money, I'd suggest more reliable companies.
They recently stated they'll "at some point" fix the calendar (while continuing to charge as if it's fully functional). Link. I mentioned the following as a former paying user of over 10 years. The result? My comment was removed. That's their approach; if you're not satisfied, you don't even have the right to respond. I just cancelled what remained of my paid subscription. https://preview.redd.it/a904gvpop92h1.png?width=357&format=png&auto=webp&s=c3eea6d2fa512131b66a4b5993f894e095360d37 Sorry, but that's exactly my problem with Proton. I got tired of hearing, "We know our product is half-baked, but we promise, we'll fix it... someday. In the meantime, we're releasing/buying these other 3 half-baked products." As an example, we've been waiting for the Drive Linux Client for like 5 years... And again, we trusted you. I was a Visionary subscriber 10 years ago. You need to rethink your strategy, or you'll keep losing customers. If you're actually the product owner, you should understand how project planning works; roadmaps, sprints, delivery cycles. You need to provide a CONCRETE implementation plan with dates. Proton's roadmaps shift every year and nothing ever gets delivered. That's NOT how you ship a product. I've been a consultant for 30 years. If I ran my projects the way you run yours, I'd be selling handmade souvenirs on the beach right now. submitted by /u/Unruly_Evil to r/degoogle [link] [comments]

Is switching to ProtonMail from Gmail worth it?
EDIT: Thanks for all your advice. I've decided to switch to ProtonMail after all, and I'll also be using SimpleLogin. I've already transferred a lot of my accounts to the new email service. I’ve recently started taking an interest in my online security (I’ve started using Yubikey, Bitwarden and Ente Auth) and now it’s time to look into privacy as well. Many people say that Gmail isn’t a good choice because Google can read my emails. I have six Google accounts and I use email, just like everyone else(maybe), to sign up for other services and to use Google services such as Google Photo (I’m buying 1 TB of storage for the family). So does it make sense to switch to Proton Mail, and if so, how? submitted by /u/Vladyslavrom to r/ProtonMail [link] [comments]

Introducing post-quantum encryption support in Proton Mail
UPDATE: We are aware of reports of Proton Drive for Windows users experiencing sync issues after enabling post-quantum encryption. We've temporarily disabled the opt-in to this feature and a fix is in progress. We will provide an update as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience! Hi everyone, We’ve just added support for post-quantum encryption in Proton Mail. Quantum computers aren’t yet capable of breaking today’s encryption, but the risk isn’t theoretical. One reason is “harvest now, decrypt later”, where encrypted data can be collected today and stored until it becomes easier to break in the future. With this update, you can now enable post-quantum-ready keys for new encrypted emails. This is optional and available on all plans, including free. A few things to keep in mind: - Right now, it applies to new encrypted emails going forward (it doesn’t re-encrypt old messages) - Old message are not yet re-encrypted but will be in a later migration - Key management works the same way as before You can learn more here: https://proton.me/blog/introducing-post-quantum-encryption And see how to enable it here: https://proton.me/support/mail-post-quantum-protection We’re also starting the transition toward OpenPGP v6 to support newer cryptographic standards. This is something many of you have been asking about as post-quantum cryptography becomes more relevant. Let us know what you think in the comments below, and keep the feedback coming. submitted by /u/Proton_Team to r/ProtonMail [link] [comments]

Alternatives to Proton for email
Hey all. Been a Proton user since probably 2019 or so and I'm looking for alternatives. I'm not really happy with the direction it's heading; I don't need or want an everything-app, and it sits REALLY badly with me that their new official policy is "no changelogs". The wiki seems to be out of date, but it led me to Mailbox Mail, which... seems a lot like Proton. Anyone have experience with this provider? Or recommendations for another provider? I am looking for non-US-based, non-advertiser-supported, encrypted email. It's fine if it's not free. edit: Tuta seems good although this thing about the RCMP is giving me pause submitted by /u/alphadavenport to r/privacy [link] [comments]

Introducing Born Private: reserve a Proton Mail address for your kid before Big Tech gets to them first
Be honest: how many of you still have your old Gmail or Outlook address lingering in the background? You made the switch to Proton. You believe in what we’re building here. But that old address is still tied to years of account logins, purchase history, password resets, and recovery flows. Cutting it off completely feels impossible, not because you want to keep it, but because so much of your digital past is tangled up in it. We hear this from the community constantly. And it got us thinking: what if the next generation never had to make that trade-off in the first place? Today we’re launching Born Private. Parents can now reserve a Proton Mail address for their child: → The address is locked and preserved for up to 15 years → The inbox stays completely sealed; no messages, no activity, no data collection → When the child is ready, they or their parent activate it with a secure voucher No profiling from day one. No decade-old data trail to untangle later. Just a clean, private starting point for their digital life. For those of you still wrestling with your old inbox: we get it. That’s exactly why we built this, so your kids won’t have to. We’re all born private. Let’s make sure the next generation stays that way. https://proton.me/mail/born-private/email We’d love to hear your thoughts: What would you have done differently if you’d had this option? I am Dr. Andy Yen, a particle physicist who left CERN after the Snowden leaks to start ProtonMail, the world’s largest encrypted email service. AMA
Hey Reddit r/IAmA! My name is Andy Yen and I’m the founder of ProtonMail, a popular encrypted email service. In 2013, after the Snowden leaks, some friends and I working at the CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) grew very concerned about the lack of data privacy on the Internet. So we decided to do something about it. Today, ProtonMail provides security and privacy to millions of people around the world. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about online privacy, why it matters, and what are some of the challenges we face in trying to save it. Also happy to talk about entrepreneurship and what it was like transitioning from science to tech. To prove it’s me, here’s a picture my colleague just took of me here in our Geneva headquarters. Looking forward to your questions! EDIT 21:10 Geneva: Thanks to everybody who participated! It was a pleasure to answer many of your questions, and I'm sorry that I was not able to get to all of them. It is heartening to see so much interest in privacy and security, and it gives me a lot of hope for the future. As it is now past 9PM in Geneva, I will have to sign off for now although I may be back to answer a few more questions later. The conversation continues every day at /r/ProtonMail where we routinely answer questions and discuss with our community. submitted by /u/ProtonMail to r/IAmA [link] [comments]
