We have an alcove in our living room that is currently wallpapered. We want to change the accent wall to something updated but is this too trendy? Edit: Thanks for my confirming my thoughts everyone. Help! Help me pick a funky color for an accent wall
Ok so please be gentle with me lol. I know my living space might not be everyone’s taste so pls reserve comments that are just bashing it. I recently went through a terrible breakup and I impulse bought a pink couch because why the f*** not, it’s my home and I’m leaning into it. But now with the bright couch and bright accessories I feel I need to balance it with a splash of wall color, just the wall that one half of the couch is on (the other half is against a window that is in front of a tree that leafs out beautifully, so that half is covered. I’m looking for FUN. If I want a disco ball, I don’t want the color I’ve chosen to clash with that. Neutrals and muted tones won’t cut it. I want gem tones, even though a few of my chosen options don’t reflect that. Besides the pink couch my place is vibrant with blues and greens, with pops of pink and red. Not *much* yellow/purple/orange. I’ve included some sherwin Williams app photos (which show you too little of the room) I’ll include some other photos as well. Accent Walls Suck
I see dozens of comments in this and other interior design subs advocating for accent walls and I just needed to vent/solicit opinions. To me, accent walls never look right. If it’s just a color, it feels like a hotel room. If it’s wallpaper, it feels like someone’s “budget renovation” youtube video or a cheap flip. Both options feel very dated, specifically to the early 2010s. Just wallpaper or paint the whole room. It looks so much better. One wall that’s different is distracting and jumps out at the eye. It can make the whole room feel off and unfinished. Go all the way with color/pattern or don’t do it at all. Accent walls are a half assed way for people who can’t/don’t want to commit to being bold. It’s the coward’s way out. And yes I know some people do it because wallpaper is expensive. I get it, but like pick something else to do to the walls then. Or even get a paint color that matches the wallpaper mostly and paint the other walls that. I still don’t think that looks right but it looks so much better than one wall that is bright and bold and 3 white walls and a white ceiling. So why do so many people love these? Why are they so popular? I’m genuinely curious because the only explanation I can think of is that everyone who likes them watched way too many flipping shows in 2013 (or I guess reruns now) and still thinks they’re the height of taste. I know I sound like a bit of a dick here, pls don’t take it personally if you love an accent wall. submitted by /u/No-Tomato5156 to r/interiordesignideas [link] [comments]

Went against Reddit’s advice on my new accent wall…
Everybody on Reddit said the color was too dark when I asked for advice. And maybe it is, but I absolutely love it. ✨ No regrets ✨ (It’s the swatch on the far left/top left) submitted by /u/Laurie712 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Accent wall in living room?
Should I go along having an accent wall like this in the living room? I am afraid it might make the room denser and dark. submitted by /u/preplexed_thoughts to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Accent walls—still cool?
This is not my picture, just an example from Google. I’ve been going back and forth about potentially doing an accent wall, but I just keep remembering ugly ones from the early 00s. My current kitchen before I painted it was that classic Tuscan chartreusey beige, and then had a bright red accent wall, and it really made this impression on me that accent walls look so dated. What I want to know is, if I had one that wasn’t hideous, would it still look dated? Is it something a pro interior designer would still do? submitted by /u/ginkgobilobie to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Help! Painted whole dining nook too dark when I should’ve stopped at accent wall
Husband and I painted this beautiful green wall and couldn’t decide if we should paint the rest of the dining “nook” or only this one wall. Felt weird with only 1 wall since I wallpapered the adjacent wall so it’s unclean which would be the “accent” wall. Well we painted the other two walls and I think we messed up and it’s too dark. Is getting dark walls back to white really hard? Should I do some sort of white wainscoting on the bottom so it adds some light back in? So sad, the accent wall alone looked great. submitted by /u/Plus_Management_7884 to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Unpopular opinion: No accent walls

But I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea and some people will always like accent walls, whichever trend form it takes: paint, panelling, moulding etc submitted by /u/milkaddictedkitty to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Should I leave this dark blue accent wall or get rid of it?
I decided to paint an accent wall where I’m going to mount my TV but I’m starting to think it’s too dark for this small unit. The dark accent wall is also recessed making the area look even smaller imo. What do you guys think? submitted by /u/balmyze to r/InteriorDesign [link] [comments]

My sister loves it. I think I hate it. Was this accent wall color a mistake?
Be honest. It only cost like a third of a gallon of paint and one day to paint it. I really wanted to like it. My sister and I always said we wanted a pink living room but I am not feeling this. I’m thinking of repainting it like a light peachy-color submitted by /u/puffer_bitch to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]
