Uncruise Alaska Sitka to Juneau June 13th Safari Endeavour
Wow! This was amazing!! I didn't know what to expect, so this is the post I wish I had read before I went! Packing: The MUST HAVES are RAIN PANTS ($20 on amazon now, $140(!!) on ship), rain jacket (my Outdoor Ventures lined raincoat [$45 amazon] was the perfect weight), hiking pants (shoutout to my Duluth Flexpedition pants - elastic waist AND short inseam!]), wool socks, waterproof kayak gloves (that I wore every day, kayaking or not), and a ball cap or beanie. I brought 2 pairs of hiking pants for excursions and 1 pair of jeans to wear around the boat for dinner. 2 long sleeve wool shirts, 1 long sleeve lighter weight shirts, some tshirts for layering. I also used the heck out of a lightweight vest for layering as well (my husband used his fleece for this layer). You do NOT need hiking boots as you will be wearing (provided) wellingtons for all off-boat activities. Don't bother bringing your own wellingtons; people that did were told they weren't tall enough, plus they take up so much room! They also provide trekking sticks and bug spray. My usual hiking outfit was long sleeve wool shirt, rain jacket, hiking pants, two pairs of socks (socks, pants, then another pair over the pants so they stay in the boots - I think this also made the boots fit better). On our one absolutely gorgeous sunny no-rain day, I switched out the rainjacket for a lightweight vest. Don't forget a swimsuit for the polar plunge! I also brough a small packable backpack that was handy for water bottles and layers, but usually we just kept our phones and camera in our jacket pockets and didn't bring a bag. I also wish we would have brought our own smaller water bottle as the ones on board were huge! They provide binoculars but they weren't the greatest in some rooms, so you may want to bring your own. Brought but didn't use: long underwear, ponchos, dry bag (note: I think the only reason to bring a dry bag is if you have a large, fancy camera to protect). I also packed waterproof hiking boots that I used a bit in Sitka before we left, but honestly the trails there are so nicely maintained I could have gotten away with just sneakers; I didn't use them at all on the boat. Precruise: We got to Sitka on Thursday afternoon for a Saturday departure because I don't trust the airlines. Stayed in a lovely AirB&B right behind the main street (The Georgie! From what we heard, much better choice than the Sitka Hotel). We were fortunate that there was only one small cruise ship in town on Friday, on the following Monday they were expecting 9,000 people. For food, highly recommend Beak (at the end of the mainstreet, no res available) and Ludwig's (a slight walk towards the marina - make a res and ask for outside seating), as well as Old Harbor Books and their Backdoor Cafe. We also did a tour with Capt Gary's Sitka Adventures of The Fortress of the Bear, the raptor rehab center, and Totem Park on Friday which I would highly recommend (I didn't do the combo tour since I thought that we'd have enough boat time in the week, but the couple that was on our tour did it in the morning and rated it highly!). Boarding day: Saturday was boarding day and we dropped our luggage off at the meeting point which is right near the center of town. The meeting point/lounge is open all day, but we went and did some more hikes instead of hanging around. There were no other cruises scheduled that day, so quite a few activities and stores we wanted to visit were closed. We had to be back at the meeting point by 4:30. If it is an option while you are there, there is a movie that is supposed to be really good about Alaska in the same building that you could go see, or there is also enough time to do the fortress/raptor/totem park excursion that same day (we booked it through Viator). It was very first-day-of-school vibes in the meeting room with awkward intros and choosing seats! At 4:45, we loaded up on busses to take us across town (10 minutes) to the boat. Once we were greeted and shown to our rooms, we had a safety meeting and drill. Then dinner! The Vibe: At around 50, we were almost the youngest couple on board. There were about ten people in their 20s/teens who were traveling with their parents. I'd say the average age was 65? Everyone we met was delightful. About 90% were American and left-leaning. Quite a few that were active hikers, etc, but the majority were just here for the adventure without previous experience. Lots of fun conversations about previous travels; this was quite group that loved to explore! Food and Drink: All food and drinks are included, except for some top-shelf liquors (for pricing example, to have Empress Gin instead of regular gin in my drink was $8. I don't think many people ended up paying for any drink upgrades). All meals are served plated in the dining room (this is not true for all Uncruises; some do buffet breakfast/lunch). Breakfast you had a choice between a breakfast meal (eg corned beef hash, French toast, avocado toast) or a specialty omelet, and you could add eggs, sausage, bacon, and toast. They also had yogurt, fresh fruit, and the yummiest granola out for self-serve. Breakfast was usually about a B to B-, nothing to write home about, but still good. Lunch was the option of a meat meal (eg turkey wrap, burgers, chicken gyro), veggie meal, or you could have a salad with chicken or fish. Also a small dessert. Again, about a B or B+. Dinner was again the option of a meat meal (eg beef tenderloin, lamb), fish (cod, rockfish), or veggie. I would recommend doing the 50/50 surf and turf so you can try both. Each meal started with a salad/soup and bread and ended with a lovely dessert. Most of these meals were a solid A. There was also an all-you-can-eat crab night. Also one night where they shouted out all the special celebrations on board and had a special dessert, so make sure you tell them if you are celebrating! Multiple times we sat with people with dietary restrictions. The vegan said these were some of the best vegan meals she's had on a trip, with maybe just a couple meals that were disappointing. The gluten-free person went so far as to tell the captain how well her food was prepared! My husband and I both enjoyed most of the drinks we got from the bar. They make a special drink of the day for "happier hour" which was fun to try. My favorite cocktail was the Alaskan 49. There is only one bartender, so the wait can be a little long at times but you just spend it talking to your new friends in line, so no problem. The Boat: The boat was very clean and well-kept. We spent most of the time in the forward lounge or dining room, where there were tables of 6 and where we had most of our great conversations. The Rooms: We booked early enough to get a special on the Admiral room. It had a large amount of closet/drawer storage, and you could easily slide your suitcase in the closet or under the bed. It also had a desk and chair. We got the one on the 2nd floor, so our window was directly on the side of the boat, so we were able to keep our curtains open all the time to enjoy the view! (On the 3rd deck, there is a walkway between your door/window and the side of the boat so people are walking by and can look right in.) The bathroom was...very boaty. The shower was super tiny and my husband (average height) had to bend down for the showerhead. And no matter how you adjusted the curtain, there was always water outside the shower. But it got the job done! Also, the toilet paper is flushable. On the last night, we looked in on the other rooms - the Commodore Suite was fannnncy with that separate seating area and a normal- (ok, actually pretty big) sized bathroom. The pathfinder (regular rooms) were not *that* much smaller than ours (and same bathroom configuration). They had two twins that could be smooshed together for a king, but in a very awkward way (the desk would be in the way of getting in and out). Also they were orientated away from the window! But for as little time as we actually spent in there, they would have been perfectly fine. Internet: The internet is cut off from about 8am - 8pm. When it's on, well, it's not much better than being cut off. You might get some text messages, but probably not any photo attachments. You can read the subject line of emails, but unless it's pure text inside, you're gonna be waiting a while to read the rest. Most apps didn't work (say goodbye to your Wordle streak). Not a dealbreaker, but definitely good to know if you were planning on using it! What a regular day looks like: 6:30 early bird pastry and yogurt available in lounge (supposedly the coffee is weak; I don't drink it) 7:00 stretch: this was shown as a yoga-mat-on-the-sun-deck operation, but it was just a standing stretch. Still a nice way to start the day. 7:15: Breakfast 8:45 - 11:45(ish): Activities. You choose one activity (more on these later) and are broken up into small (14 or less) groups. Because there are 88 people, six guides, and 3(?) skiffs, you are not doing an activity this entire time. Depending on how many people want what activity, they can last from 1- 1.5 hours (I think the bushwacks were around 2 hours). This was one of the disappointments we had - a lot of waiting around time. And for the first two days, we were on the last activity of each section so we were waiting around by ourselves while most of the boat was out. I mean, it wasn't a dealbreaker; we were just expecting to spend the whole morning and afternoon off the boat. 12:30(ish): lunch 1:45 - 4:45: Second activity 5:30: Happier hour 6:00: Preview of next day 6:30: Dinner 7:30: Nature talk by one of the guides Usually everyone was in their cabin by 9:30 or 10. The two unusual days were the first day (Sunday) as the morning was spent with orientation lectures about the activities and safety, so just one activity in the afternoon. On Glacier Bay day (Friday for our itinerary), we had one activity in the morning, and cruised to sightsee Glacier Bay in the afternoon. I really wish we had had a true full day in Glacier Bay to do more than one activity (I think is what they do on the Juneau roundtrip cruise). Activities: There were usually 4 main activities from which to choose (from "easiest" to "more active"): Skiff tour: Ride around the location in a skiff. This was much slower going that I thought (in a good way!!). We would ride around and look at stuff in the shoreline (very cool during low tide-they called it a "dry snorkel!"), as well as look for land and sea wildlife. Eco-Meander: A light walk through the shoreline and the edges of the forest. If you did go in the forest, you were walking on easy game trails. These were fun! Kayak: Throughout the week, they offered some guided kayak tours as well as open-paddles where they would just give you boundaries to stay inside. Both were fun, but I enjoyed the guided ones more. Bushwack: Walking through the forest on your own path (and contrary to what I thought, no machetes are involved. 😄) Climbing over logs (sometimes under), through creeks, up some steep climbs, and some booty scooting going down said steep climbs. They tried to label them as "challenging" "light" or "moderate." We tried a light one on Wednesday and were hooked! The forest is just beautiful and scrambling over stuff had us giggling and laughing the whole way through. We did another moderate on the next day. I wish we would have had the courage to try the other ones earlier in the week, but were a little apprehensive about the "challenging" label! Others: On one day, there was an all-day "wack and yak" which was about 5 hours (!) of kayaking and 2 hours of lunch/bushwacking. Those that went said it was a great time, even if the currents got them in the end and they needed a tow! On that same day, a snorkel was offered which got good reviews from the 5 brave souls that tried it! Also, this is not an organized activity, but be sure to visit the bridge at some point! You sign up for your two activities the day before and you are guaranteed to be on those activities the next day (one day they had a skiff tour for one person because he was the only one that signed up!). If you change your mind after the schedule is made, they will try to accommodate you as best as they can. They also may need to change due to the weather (one day the currents were too strong for kayaking safely, so they gave us alternate activities to choose from). Polar plunge: On Glacier Bay day, you have the opportunity to jump off the back of the boat into the glacier waters. DO IT!!!!! Last day: Breakfast at 7 and here's your hat, what's your hurry? You walk right off the boat into downtown Juneau at about 8:30. If you have provided them with your flight information, they will hold your luggage until they shuttle you to the airport. We had a 6:30 flight so we squeezed in a Coastal Helicopter tour to a glacier and dogsledding which was AMAZING! Wildlife: We had two evenings where we spotted whales off of the bow (my first time seeing them and I did tear up). One skiff tour saw a bear on the shoreline (one skiff saw no wildlife!). We had one skiff day where every skiff spotted otters, seals, harbor porpoises, and a whale! In Glacier Bay, we cruised around a couple islands to view mountain goats, sea lions, cormorants, and puffins (!). Final thoughts: This was absolutely a once-in-a-lifetime memorable experience. I would gladly do another tour with Uncruise (maybe Hawaii?!?). I cannot imaging getting on a larger boat! The crew was top-notch and went out of their way to ensure everyone was having a good time. Everything was well-organized and safety-oriented. I'm really glad we went Sitka-to-Juneau as each day just kept getting more scenic with the finale being Glacier Bay! Now, a caveat is that this cruise is very nature-dependent! We had drizzly rain and clouds the first few days, which was just very Alaskan and didn't stop us. But one skiff got caught in a chance rain shower and that was not the best ride to be on (especially when the other skiff tour saw a bear that day!). And for our open paddle day, the current was pretty strong compared to the completely flat bay we had the day before, so we actually came back in pretty early. I'm really glad we had a beautiful, bluebird sky for Glacier Bay to end our tour on, my feelings may have been different if we never saw the sun all week! All that to say, be flexible and open to whatever comes your way during the week! No matter what, you're going to make some lifetime memories! Happy to answer any other questions! Alaska Trip Recap May 15-25 2026 (Grand Princess, Alaska Railroad)
Hi everyone, welcome to my (F, 42) planes, trains, ships and automobiles recap for our (DH, 39) recent trip to Alaska (May 15-25). This was our second cruise to the 49th state and our first time incorporating a land tour portion. We (by we I mean DH) self-booked all of these pieces individually, it wasn’t a Princess land-sea package or travel advisory deal. Please also note that I have Celiac and will be commenting on how I found my particular dining situations, as this was my first cruise since being diagnosed. We took a direct Westjet (via Delta) flight from LAS-YVR on the afternoon of the 15th. The flight was uneventful and border control was a breeze since we’d completed the ArriveCan declaration a few days prior to leaving. The wait for the Skytrain was minimal, and even though we’d arrived around 4:30 there wasn’t much commuter crowding the ride into the city. I’d made a hotel reservation at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver via the American Express FHR program. For reference, this is the hotel “attached” to the cruise port. Some mild confusion at check in when the desk agent insisted I had reserved a double bed room (I did not, but you know like when you go through TSA and you KNOW you don’t have any contraband but you start wondering if you actually did somehow contract a kilo of drugs since you left your house?). This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we were upgraded to what I believe was the third largest suite on property (thanks AmEx, that $895 annual fee is finally paying off)! I’m not joking that it was excessive beyond belief, especially for only one night. Dinner in Vancouver was supposed to be at Elisa, a highly regarded steakhouse; however, we’d been notified a few weeks ago that there had been a fire at the restaurant and as of our visit they still hadn’t reopened. We pivoted to Gordon Ramsey Steak at the River Rock Casino for a little entertainment (can take the girl out of Vegas….). Admittedly dinner was fine, but I definitely was bummed that it was our backup plan. I didn’t have any bread or dessert options, but they did provide a separate amuse bouche (DH got some cute profiterole and I had an oyster). If you’ve been to GR Steak in Las Vegas, this place is like night and day compared to it, especially in decor. Embarkation morning we attempted to have the inclusive breakfast in the Club Lounge, but do note the lounge is smaller than an OGG Hawaiian Airlines lounge and just as welcoming iykyk. The bright side is that they offered to cover the buffet in the main hotel restaurant. The host at the restaurant asked if we wanted buffet or à la carte and my gluten free heart fluttered at not having to buffet! However, our voucher from the lounge ONLY covered the buffet, but I had an F&B credit from my FHR booking that covered the meal. It was, as the kids say, mid. For a high-end hotel that entry level rooms exceed $500/night it was maybe the poorest hotel breakfast I’ve had. You cannot convince me the eggs weren’t powdered. As I mentioned, the PanPac is part of the Canada Place complex so getting to the port was like walking into your garage from your very large hotel-house. We did make the rookie mistake of going down to the basement where vehicles drop off just to walk back up to the promenade to drop our bags. I swear last time we sailed we dropped bags in the lower level but I can’t be certain. Oops. Three ships were in port: the Disney Something, the Holland America Something-dam and the Something Princess (our ship). Please do not ask me what ship we were on. I didn’t remember all week. I won’t remember when I am asked later by my mother. If it wasn’t printed on my medallion I’d have never known. I count my lucky stars there were never two Princess ships in port our entire sailing or I’d be lost at sea (or the US customs office in Juneau I suppose). Joking aside, it was the Grand Princess (I checked the app, I swear). While I appreciate the 5-step check-in process that Canada Place operates, this is definitely a more hectic embarkation than if you’re utilizing separate berth/terminal spaces like the Florida ports. All in all I think it took about an hour to get onboard from when we arrived at 10am. Full disclosure when it comes to cruise planning I am 1000% just along for the ride (a Princess passenger in this case??). Everything that happens involving the ship is DH. He probably always knows what ship we were on. What I do know is we were in stateroom E732 (bc one repeats their stateroom ad nauseum on a cruise, even with the medallion system). It was a suite in the aft - literally, a wake view - and had a fancy long name (Otto von Something suite). We had the Princess Premiere package. We had Reserve dining. I do NOT know what we paid, if he used a casino offer and upgraded. I’m sure we talked about it at some point, along with the name of the ship. I want to a) rest, b) not make decisions and c) not think about work when I cruise. It did take a while for staterooms to open from when we got onboard, 2pm I think? We weren’t sure what specialty dining had been included for us, so instead of barging straight to make reservations (which were woefully unavailable online leading up the sailing) we waited to review all of the in-room literature. Turns out we had embarkation dinner at Crown Grill or Sabatinis, so I called the dining line and quickly secured our spot at the Italian place. The second order of business was hunting down the Reserve Dining Manager to discuss my dining restrictions. I’d already updated my Princess profile noting my condition and all further instructions were “speak to a manager onboard” cool cool….this man, the redemption arc of the sailing, was like “yes, gluten free, ok” and I’m all “uhhh yes now what” and he’s “you eat here” and I’m like “but….” And he’s like “byeeeeee”. I’m telling you I thought I’d be a miserable human for a week. George turned out to be a massive help and received one of my commendations in the survey. To save everyone slogging through the abyss of my brain for the seven days onboard, let’s just break down some key topics. Food: Breakfast everyday for suite guests was in Sabatinis. The team was excellent, took note of my GF request the first morning and was prepared with GF pastries and toast (much, much beiger and sadder than the large assortment of regular pastries). I mostly got some egg situation and bacon. I never asked for any other special requests- I’d read online that someone asked for GF pancakes but I wasn’t sure if that was MDR or not. They had our drinks order memorized by the second day and I continually disappointed manager Olga when I didn’t want a mimosa after the first day. We dined at both specialty restaurants for dinner, Sabatinis and Crown Grill. I was pleasantly surprised that Sabatinis had a GF amuse bouche (arancini) and GF pasta. Not too much to say about the steakhouse, it’s easily the most accessible. Safe. Interestingly, our Sabatinis breakfast staff worked Crown Grill for dinner, so they had the whole spiel ready for me. For MDR we were in the Reserve Collection. This is a corner of one main dining room with dedicated waiters and some additional “chef’s specials” each meal. At lunch, for instance, the manager had a cooking station with a salad or pasta dish each day. My personal process for dining went like this: Day 1 acknowledges restriction, order from menu (adjust as needed), during meal manager drops off next days menu to select from; rinse, repeat. Most days I only preordered dinner as lunch is more fluid with the port schedule. I was always offered GF bread - literally white toast, yet toasted differently every single time. But there’s something about just being included when everyone else gets cool buns. The food was….fine. It’s cruise food. Was I blown away? No. Was it terrible? Not usually (do NOT get a GF crab cake)…but the desserts were particularly awful. The GF dessert choices nightly are crème brûlée (without the Madeline that everyone else gets), ice cream/sorbet or “chefs choice”. They want to bring you chefs choice. They’re so proud to give you chefs choice. One day (for both lunch and dinner mind you), chefs choice was not dissimilar to tinned blueberry pie filling with whipped cream on top. Again, happy to be invited to the party. We did not try the buffet. In port we had Timber & Tide in Ketchikan right by the pier; I got seafood tacos and they had corn tortillas on request. The mango salsa was just the right amount of sweet to match the chipotle crema. We caved for Tracy’s Crab Shack in Juneau. Honestly just do it. Your wallet will cry. Your tummy will smile. DH had the garlic buns that come with the bucket deal (I had asked for them to be separate from the rest of the order). One more meal to mention but it leads us to the next topic. Excursions: We’d booked some flying thing in Ketchikan. The night before, as we were leaving to go to dinner we saw a new ticket envelope announcing a new departure time - the afternoon flight instead of the morning. It was due to forecasted rain, I see the framework of their plan. However, we weren’t given an option or heads up, just new tickets. We didn’t want the afternoon session, different agenda. It’s 5:30, the excursion desk closed at 5:00. Guest services says they a) can’t issue refunds and b) excursions have to be canceled 48 hours in advance. How, pray tell, could we cancel an excursion we weren’t aware would get rescheduled? The agent called someone, refunded us. We’re not special, we didn’t make a scene, I think they realized they made some tactical errors, or that we weren’t the first ones to ask for a refund. Juneau- Taku Lodge Sea Plane glacier adventure thing. 11/10 must do, recommend to everyone. We were driven to the sea plane port place (had walked past it earlier in the morning). The flight was STUNNING. We truly lucked out on weather, our last cruise we got rained out in Juneau so I feel like it owed us one. The flight is a recorded narration, but my brain was just a loop of “Oohh pretty” and “nature is effing insane”. The lodge staff were so chill, the food was great and the bear (yes a black bear just hung out the whole time) was snuggly. Jkjkjk don’t hug wild bears. I should point out that I just used personal judgement on what I ate at the lodge; I’m generally asymptomatic but still take full responsibility for what I’m eating. Whittier - we booked the bus transfer to Anchorage. I command you now with my full chest, if you do this and your bus driver is named Robin, jump out the window. Actually just don’t board, pretend you have to pee and go back in the terminal and get on another bus. She cray. She admitted as we started driving that she’d never driven that type of bus before and that she’s still learning the “script”. I was quite certain she was going to drive us off the road trying to read her notes. Bars I am now a dual citizen between the United States and Crooners Bar. I don’t know what it is about that place, it was also our home on our last Alaska cruise. Christian and Victoria are a dream team. Had good conversations with the other captives. Do note that walk up orders queue heavily before and after shows due to proximity to the theater. Speaking of shows, don’t know her. Didn’t go to a single one. “They” said the ABBA and British Invasion were ok. Cool. If you do ever see me at a comedy juggler, I have been invaded by a body snatcher. What else can I tell you about the cruise? The ship is showing its age, it’s not all new and fancy. We dealt with (and had other people mention) HVAC issues in the stateroom. Our balcony door I think was duct taped together. The patio furniture was…worn out. I rave to anyone that will listen that cruising to Alaska is a must-do trip and that if you can afford it you MUST get a balcony for the scenic cruising days. It was really disappointing how little time we spent on our balcony this trip just due to the condition. The shower pressure was strong but the drainage was nonexistent. We existed mostly on decks 6, 7 and 8 (with the occasional field trip to 14 for pizza or an ice cream). Oh….and can we seriously ban smoking in the casino? Ok, onward. So the demon bus finally gets us to Anchorage….TWO HOURS after we left. I believe we were supposed to go straight to the Hospitality Center, but we had a group that needed to get dropped at the airport that hand carried their luggage for some reason. I’m lucky like that. We grabbed our bags and walked the two blocks to the Hilton. It was about 12:30 and we couldn’t check in yet but we dropped our bags with the bell desk and headed out for lunch. In fairness, the staff at the hospitality center said we probably wouldn’t be able to check in yet and we were welcome to drop our hand carry bags with our suitcases to hold until 5:00pm. A colleague who used to live in Anchorage had recommended F Street Station and lucky us, it was literally around the corner from the hotel. It was packed. Like not a seat open, and what appeared to be a large percentage of locals. Thankfully a table was leaving as we were prairie dogging for open chairs and we pounced (do prairie dogs pounce?). I got a mountain of clams in the most garlicy broth (without and bread to sop it up) and DH had fish and chips. Solid place, divey in the best way. Thanks Jackie. Got into the room later that afternoon, killed some time and stepped out for dinner at Simon & Seaforts. It was a quick walk but if you’re not paying attention you’ll walk right by the place. It’s in what looks like an office building. Service was quick, food was good not great. I didn’t realize it was a Landrys restaurant, would have chosen a local spot otherwise. The next morning we packed up and walked the three blocks for our bucket list part of the trip - Alaska Railroad Gold Star service to Fairbanks! Checking in was efficient. Our luggage wasn’t weighed when we dropped it off, but note that AR has a posted limit of 50 pounds per bag. I also want to specifically mention that Gold Star doesn’t have overhead storage due to the dome car, some “carryon” size bags will have to be checked. I smooshed my backpack to fit under the seat, but in hindsight it had some items that I was lugging around to keep our suitcase under the weight limit. The good: the views. We had great weather to start, clear skies for the most part. Saw moose, bears, sheep and lots of birds (all from afar and you know, while speeding by them). I’m the first cynic about watching YT videos of people going “the guide says it’s always cloudy and OMG today is perfectly clear”. Sure Jan. The cloud cover rolled in ahead of reaching the Alaska Range but we were able to glimpse the base of Denali. Animal spotting is tough, anyone that thinks bears just hang out next to the tracks waving is high. The times that something was called out on the PA we’d either already passed it or it was on the wrong side of the tracks to see. Just keep your own eyes peeled and be patient - I swear I saw three bears but it wasn’t announced and no one else shouted about it. The bad: the food, genuinely not great and poorly planned. They ran out of two items during lunch service before the second seating. I’m indecisive on how to rank the fellow passengers, but we had someone on speakerphone for the first half hour, some generally loud talkers and a guy that stood in the aisle and blocked traffic for no reason over and over again. I guess the guides aren’t asked or required to police that? I dunno. All in all it was a neat experience and I’m glad we’ve done it but it was a lot of money to have such bad food and no control over your environment. There was a 90-year old man hacking up a lung for the last two hours of our journey that just killed all good vibes. It’s a looooong day going from Anchorage to Fairbanks (to the tune of 12 hours) and the last leg of the trip from Denali depot is a grind and I think everyone just wanted off. But wait! Low vibes? Do I ever have the cure for you…Captain Dave. Sir, I dont know where you came from but I will never forget you. We left Fairbanks Station thinking we could grab a cab (they said on the PA while we were approaching both Ubers and cabs were available), but none were visible. This stranger in a van with that visor with the fake hair on it (you cannot make this up) is like “where ya headed”….airport….”oh hop in, I got two more but I can take you”. First, I’m alive to tell this story, so we didn’t die. Second, there were in fact two other train passengers getting in the van with us. We are trauma bonded. Third, at no point was fare ever discussed. This man, I kid you not, pulled off on the side of the road mid-trip to stop and show us a random pen of reindeer. Or caribou. He kept saying one, then corrected himself to the other, but then did it backwards the next time. Again, we didn’t get dead, so great. We gave him a $20 when we got to the airport and he told us to find him if we ever come back. We did arrive to the airport before the Delta check-in desk was even open, but that’s how the schedule worked out and we didn’t have to stay another hotel night. Just bunked down with some vending machine snacks and killed time watching F1 and IndyCar highlights (man I miss Monaco this weekend). Eventually it’s time to check bags and head in to kill more time before our 1:40am flight….yes, 1:40am and yes it never really got dark out and my brain is still trying to figure that out. Connected in Seattle and made it safely back home in Vegas before noon. A quick comment on packing as it seems to always be a hot topic. I packed a rain coat and insulated jacket. Wore the rain coat only until Juneau then swapped to the puffer once the temperature dropped heading north. I took two beanies, only wore one. Packed three shoes: waterproof hiking shoes (not boots but good tread), casual sneakers for onboard and a pair of loafers. Wish I hadn’t packed the loafers and missed a quick slide/clog for onboard to pop out for coffee. I appreciate that Alaska sailings are much more laid back and even Gala Night was overwhelmingly casual. I had one pair of black slacks, two pairs of a wide leg “athleisure” trouser (there’s a great option from Uniqlo) and four pairs of water resistant black pants from Duluth Trading (one fleece lined). I assumed I’d change every day to a nighttime outfit…I think I actually did twice? I’m usually in all black, so a black sweater and pants covers a lot of bases. I still managed to over pack, but it was mainly dinner time blouses and cardigans that never got touched. I think that the 50-pound limit for the train helped us both in preventing any more overpacking. I hope this helps anyone planning a future cruise to Alaska. Despite the hiccups I still think that Princess is the go-to for Alaska sailing. I’m grateful for older posts on sailing with celiac across a number of social platforms and hope I can continue to shed light on how to have the best experience. Finally, shoutout to DH, who achieved Million Miler status with Delta on the flight home! All the work travel that takes you far from home makes these trips so much more memorable and important. submitted by /u/fluffybunnyFL to r/PrincessCruises [link] [comments]

Alaska cruise modest outfits
I’m going on a cruise in May, but I can’t wear anything that shows skin, not even sleeveless. I want comfortable outfit ideas. My parents don’t let me wear anything that shows skin. The only thing I own right now are graphic tees, so I need suggestions for outfits or good graphic tees to buy. Or just regular plain tees. I went on a cruise last year and wore two dresses for the events, plus graphic tees with leggings and pants. I know it’s still a while until May, but I just want to get ideas now. thank you so much. I’m 18 yrs old. submitted by /u/Major-Advertising259 to r/capsulewardrobe [link] [comments]

Breaking Down Bates
1.At the very beginning of 2025 we felt a shift with the Stewart family… fresh off a trip to Dubai, ditching anything Boutique related, churning out daily mini-vlogs and weekly full length videos and announcing a 3rd baby was on the way… it was obvious they were leveling up. I don’t think anyone expected the trajectory they are ending the year on. They no longer hide what happens behind the scenes, openly talking about filming schedules and editing content… they don’t hide the fact that both parents are constantly filming so that the content is caught from every angle… and along the way we all realized that education is an afterthought, their children are truly employees, that the dark web doesn’t exist to them because it’s all just content. We heard Carlin talk about core memories and tearing up and crying and being so in love and God knows we all have heard about her post-partum journey. Evan has centered himself as the family narrator, leading the vlogs, filming even when he shouldn’t, pretending to be the world’s greatest dad and a husband every woman dreams of. So… what will 2026 bring for these goobers? They are going to move into a cavernous warehouse of a home. They will surely lure as many Bates as possible over to film, spend nights in the pool house and do manual labor in exchange for any freebies Carlin may throw their way. They will travel, they will exploit medical appointments and continue to create ClickBates titles to lure in viewers… but will the bubble burst? Will Layla finally learn to walk, brush her teeth and sleep in her own bed? I mean, first grade is looming for most children her age. She is constantly being subtitled these days, and has learned a new trick of doing somersaults to keep dad’s camera trained on her. She continues to be exploited while she is at dance class… she can’t concentrate because she is forever looking between the instructor and mommy’s camera. Will Zade stop scream talking? Will he actually get a Kindergarten DVD instead of endless hours watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse? Suddenly Carlin and Evan are concerned about his hearing. In the latest update on Zade’s speech they tell us that the Speech Therapist didn’t want to continue working with Zade because he was doing just fine… but that Carlin insisted. Yes, Carlin, the same person who constantly mocks her son’s speech and uses baby talk to communicate with him. It was also Hero Carlin (and not the hundreds and hundreds of comments) who noticed him constantly screaming and thought his hearing should be tested. Evan says he was a loud kid so Zade is probably just taking after him. Another comment by the thumb that proves absolutely no one should look to him for investment/financial/child rearing/ANY advice. Dude is not smart. The Stewarts know that all of their house buying business is public knowledge, and they can’t stomach the fact that folks know they have a mortgage. To combat this, we get lots of footage of Evan running around dropping off checks to contractors. See? They have plenty of cash. The mortgage is just to help their portfolio. This house is sounding more and more like a money pit. They have had foundation work… which would stop any discerning home buyer in their tracks. They also talk about water damage/moisture problems… another BIG issue for most buyers. They’ve torn up brick, cement… have to refinish floors and basically gutted the outdated kitchen. All of that plus there is a pool house built on top of a 2 car garage that is all unfinished. They bought the place for a million... and the amount to make it livable for them just keeps rising. Seems like quite a price to pay so Carlin can pretend to be the Queen of Powell. This has required them to work non-stop and when they aren't working… these people are shopping. In almost every one of their 13 daily vlogs they have gone shopping. They are forever in a store, a mall, or you see packages piled at their door. Not one time have they mentioned doing anything for anyone except themselves. You can see the greed bubbling over in Evan’s beady eyes. You know what else they don’t talk about much? God. Christ. Jesus. I mean, unless it’s showing off their church fits or Evan is bragging about a solo he paid to torture the parishioners with… there just is no way to know that these people are Christians. They aren’t going to Evan’s family’s Christmas this year. Probably because they can’t film. They plan to stay at the home studio so they can exploit the kids, who won’t get paid overtime. Get ready because 2026 is coming… Carlin is going to hit 1 million followers on the Gram… and momma needs to pay these interior designers so that means Layla won’t get a day off until her parents head out on their first (sponsored) solo trip. The Clark family started 2025 with a big secret. Travis was attending online classes to finally learn all of the basic knowledge he was denied as a child who was forced to attend his parent’s fake school. Once he had all of his basics under his belt… they were ready to let the world in on the big secret that he was going to become a nurse. The only thing that changed was the size of the bags under dude’s eyes and the amount of time he could spend away from his wife and kids. Travis continues to be the only nursing student who still manages to be a full time influencer, and show up all over the east coast like he’s a lady of leisure. Katie and Travis share lots of New Jersey content when they visit for Thanksgiving break. They run a 5k that Katie says everyone hated and head out to their annual ice skating. Travis says Katie is taking a “One year break from skating”. Katie immediately says people will think she is pregnant but she is NOT pregnant. In fact though, most of her content lately has been her eating, wearing loose fitting clothes and screeching at the camera that she isn’t expecting. Doth protest too much?? On the way home, they make an interesting stop… they meet up with Lawson in a gas station parking lot. Again. What’s going on with these 3 that we are missing? Why is Lawson always meeting up with them late at night in random parking lots? He gets in the car with them before the video ends… he’s on the front and Katie is shoved in the back. Could Travis be editing for Lawson? Travis does mention that Lawson’s vlogs are like watching some high energy kid’s show. Drag him Trav! Katie spends so much time alone in her house that she’s started heading to the big house to hang out with Momma B. Travis does get to go golf with Evan late night at a simulator but Katie doesn’t see Carlin… doesn’t mention Josie… she’s just alone with her kids. They go viral with a reel featuring Travis being the most amazing daddy to Hailey. Hailey pulls in 10 million plus views. Travis’ biggest music reel has 1.5 million views. See? That’s why their kids continue to be front and center. Katie and Travis celebrate their 4th anniversary with a table full of gifts and some fake hugs for the camera. 4 years of exploiting children and wallowing in vapid consumerism. Happy anniversary babe! Katie lands a deal with a counter top robot stove that costs nearly $300 and has a subscription service for frozen meals. She cooks chicken and freeze dried rice as if she’s Julia Child. They do explain their sudden love of Santa. After avoiding his name like the plague previously, Travis says they have decided Santa can be just like the Disney Princesses and he doesn’t care who disagrees. Katie jumps in to explain that gifts come from Mom and Dad but Santa is just a character. Oh. I didn’t know. Also, they take a minute to thank their followers for helping them buy a house this year. They very pointedly say their home is perfect for their family. They love it, it’s cozy, it’s just enough for them. Mmmm-Hmmm…. Are you picking up what they are throwing down? 3.Josie Balka started the year having her back blown out on a cruise ship and ends it… predictably… giving birth. Baby #4, a boy named Brooks, makes his debut on December 6 and momma did it without an epidural, squatting on a bed in full glam wearing a pool noodle on her head. After doing this 3 times in quick succession, she finally found the right mixture and every reel she drops goes viral with over a million views. Her follower count has grown by at least 25,000 in 10 days. The algorithm loves a Trad Wife. Josie definitely has a birth fetish and romanticizes every part of delivery… right down to ole square head Ktron doing his best Evan Stewart impression preparing her pads and numbing spray post-delivery. Baby Brooks requires NICU care due to Josie’s complicated medical condition but that just means more content can be served up. Josie films in the NICU, in the labor room, post labor room and at home her first night back with the kids. Meanwhile, at the house Willow and Hazel pick up the slack in some pre-recorded canned content. The Balka girls and baby Miles are being exploited more now than ever before. Ellie is in charge of the older 3 and her public IG chronicles the adventures in babysitting while mommy and daddy are away. Sister-in-law and best friend Lydia is the grand prize winner in the “who will get to film” sweepstakes. None of her sisters, or her mother even, are allowed in until the baby is born. Lydia is the only one to even share any baby content besides Michael who posts that she is overjoyed. Josie has shared just about every aspect of pregnancy except where this new baby is going to… BE. Miles is already stuffed in what they call the nursery, and the girls are cramped up in a little room sharing a trundle bed. Josie’s bedroom and bathroom are usually her studio… filled with clothes, shoes and every beauty product ever created. Don’t they own a camper? Maybe the baby’s nursery will be in that. 4.January 2026 will mark one whole year since Alyssa Webster got ticked off, quit YouTube and turned off commenting on all of her social media. Of course about 3 months after that she was back to share some lame-o camping trip they took in a family member’s backyard… but that’s beside the point. She’s been pouting for basically 12 whole months now, only stopping long enough to sob over Charlie Kirk, and dress in dated prom gowns for various Conservative functions. Besides all of that she is still able to score free dresses from the Mormon chicks and so she has to show those off. Man, those dresses are so terrible. I know these fundamentalists love to suffer so I guess these dresses help with that. It’s the stiffest, itchiest fabric while still being slick and thin and wrinkly and always just the most garish patterns. Think grandma’s curtains meets Jessica McClintock or thrift store table cloth mixed with 1981 formal living room. Yesh. The girls have to wear this stuff, and they have to smile while doing it. John is always in some cheap, too short tie and little Rhett is always just… there. Usually in the sad hat. The Webster fam lines up for Thanksgiving pictures, Sunday go to meeting pictures and Christmas tree pictures. They are all filtered into oblivion and posted with some lifeless, meaningless AI caption. Girl is really doing the least. But… she did manage to head to the farm for a trip to see Janie. And of course she’s going to post about that and exploit her children while also managing to exploit her elderly grandmother. They seem to have gone to the farm the second the rest of the Bates headed back to Tennessee and the big reason for this trip was that… Alyssa got a new pair of boots. After complaining that she had the same pair from when she was 16 either super fan Tikki came through, or John got a bonus because Alyssa is feeling herself in her new kicks. Unlike Kane Brown, she only has the one pair but still manages to wear them with every outfit and has Allie take her picture posing with her leg thrown out all over the farm. The shot in the midst of the cow poop is my personal fav. I don’t even have to tell you that the girls spend the whole week on the farm in those same damn orange fake leather, zip on the side, ankle booties. God I hope someone has a growth spurt soon so at least one pair can move out of the rotation. 5.In 2025 the Bates clan positioned Zach Bates as the new patriarch. Gil who? Zach has his little siblings staying at his house constantly, he is teaching them to drive, he is hosting and planning family get togethers, filming conversations with Kelly, giving fatherly advice to those out of town, grilling and chilling and camping and scouting out houses for all of his siblings while helping build housing for others. Zach has stories to tell and he will force you to listen. Just ask anyone who tries to join him in his kitchen. He will talk over you, around you and through you. The latest victim is Whitney who shows up to peel potatoes and laugh at his corny jokes. Yes, they make a 20 minute vlog all about mashed potatoes. It has 3 ingredients and a 12 minute tutorial of him showing how to cut a potato. I want to scream “what does it matter?? You’re boiling and mashing them into oblivion man….” Anyway, they show some behind the scenes at the Boutique just before it closes. Zach and Whitney join Evan and Carlin to stand around and observe while the siblings do all of the hard work cleaning up and moving out. Addee says her car is full to the brim with clothes and Ellie takes a ton of stuff as well. Gil, Kelly, JebJud and Warden are all there to help wrap it up and to gladly take every last clothespin left behind. Whitney is back to selling lollipops that supposedly heal strep throat and shows off some gristle turd meat on a plate that she doesn’t eat but says you should, thanks to a meal subscription service. She is still selling that protein shake but just features the 12 pack this time instead of gagging herself on film trying to demonstrate how much she loves it. Their family of 7 heads to the mall to meet the Stewarts for a movie and Zach has to back out of the parking garage because he has that pop up camper strapped to the top of the Denali. I wish they would reverse out of exploiting their kids and lying on film in 2026 as fast as he skedaddles away from Carlin after that movie date. 6.Trace and Lydia Bates have had quite a 2025. They have rearranged that square they live in more times than I can count, but it seems they will be looking for more storage solutions as a new year dawns because so far… they still don’t have a house. I wonder why God doesn’t drop one in their lap the way he saw fit to do for Evan and Carlin. That crazy silly God… always pulling tricks. Some people get million dollar homes and some people can’t get a green card. Oops…moving on. Lydia is now fully in charge of pretty much everything in this home and Trace just bumbles around avoiding all responsibility. While Lydia runs away to a coffee shop to edit videos for their sole source of income… Trace takes the kids to the big house so his little siblings and mom can care for them. Man the big house just never disappoints. It is always, always a random disaster… unless of course there happens to be a surprise sleepover for 40 happening. Then, it’s amazingly clean. The front door is beat all to hell and the porch is loaded with every metal shelving unit from BSB. Inside the trash is just everywhere. Literal trash is on the floor, the couches, toys are strewn around everywhere, there’s dust, crud, smears… it makes me itch. Trace flops down on the stained up old couch that has been there since the reality show began, and starts to narrate what’s happening around him. Obviously he doesn’t do a great job because Lydia has started adding captions to the clips to correct or fill out the story. Baby Kaia is old enough now at 6 months to be stuck in that walker for 20 hours a day just like Ryker. While she rolls around the big house she is chased by Hailey Clark who shows up with Harvey and Katie. Kelly is in the kitchen, noodle in her hair, cooking away. Something that really caught my attention… Kelly Jo was cooking bacon. REAL bacon. Not turkey bacon like they always, always cooked/ate on their reality show. I know Zach and Evan have both cooked real bacon but to see it in the big house with the matriarch cooking it… really makes me wonder. No pork was a big Gothard/IBLP rule. Lydia shares her excitement over being chosen to attend Josie’s birth. She films and types out a love letter to Josie calling her a phenomenal mother. Lydia also gifts Josie a beige basket full of beige gifts. Lydia really has been light on content. Maybe they have been busy house shopping, or maybe she was busy helping Josie. I certainly hope she doesn’t have morning sickness. That would be crazy…. Right?? 7.Michael and Brandon Keilen kicked off 2025 by announcing they were going to change up their YouTube content, share a vlog every other week and planned a huge trip to Alaska for their 10th wedding anniversary in August. The only thing that happened out of all of those plans was that he did stop creepy coloring with his nieces and nephews on film. Otherwise… the year went sideways and the trip to Alaska was postponed when they decided to become foster parents. Michael was the first sibling to congratulate Josie on the birth of her baby. She also shared pictures from Thanksgiving at the farm with Jane. In a new vlog they explain that Brandon went to Michigan alone for Thanksgiving because his sister was getting engaged. What follows is a long, boring story of how the engagement happened in a state house building and how Brandon had to wear a “cool guy tourist” outfit to fool his sister so he could secretly film the whole thing. Whatever. Michael says the boys were with her at the farm and that they will all go together to Michigan for Christmas and be able to stay for a longer time. She hasn’t mentioned anything about how temporary this situation is in a while. It’s interesting that the boys are with them… and only them… for all of the big holidays… and are even able to travel out of state. Michael says how much she has loved this year having the boys in her home. Brandon still doesn’t seem quite as thrilled as Michael and just says it has been “an adjustment”. Michael gets choked up talking about it and Brandon awkwardly tries to comfort her and that’s how they wrap up the vlog. Of course they are swamped with comments from folks saying they “deserve” to adopt these boys and that they are praying they get to adopt them. That’s a touchy subject and people say the stupidest things. 8.Erin Paine is spending every waking minute directing her beef fat operation from her perch at the end of her kitchen table. She’s making sure Chad, Carles and all of the little Paines keep that Kitchen-Aid mixer whirring away and those jars stuffed to the brim with ooey, gooey beef lard packed full of MLM oils to satiate the masses. Fundies and Christian Nationalists just love to coat themselves in some good old animal fat and to make sure she stays top of mind… Erin mails PR packages to all of the top TradWives. One of them features her product and manages that wonderful Southern Baptist backhanded compliment by saying how “lovely” Erin’s product is while also saying she had NO clue Erin made Tallow and has sooo many friends who are already making it. Ouch. Even with Chad working harder than he ever worked under his phony construction business, Erin still can’t keep the stuff in stock and has to wait list folks right at Christmas. Maybe she shouldn’t have sent out so many jars for free. If she’d only speak to Carlin, she could take some lessons on how to get by without giving anything to anybody ever. In other news, Ellie has been to visit and the Paine fam participated in their church’s Living Bethlehem program. Erin was allowed to hammer down on the piano to her heart’s content and the kids showed up in their normal clothes which worked great for their roles as shepherds. We don’t know if they will spend Christmas with Tori’s family in the Smokey Mountains again this year, but we do know Chad’s repaired Advent Calendar is filled full of marginally fun things that the kids will almost love doing every day until Santa Claus doesn’t arrive. Happy Hollydays! 9.Tiffy Bates is still pregnant… maybe. The timeline for Lawson and Tiffany is so backwards and screwed up, it’s hard to say. Esther and Nathan were in town a week ago for what Tiffany called “baby watch”, but then Esther showed them flying out of Knoxville to Las Vegas. Lawson popped up in Katie’s vlog to say that by the time the vlog was posted, the baby would be here… yet their stories have shown them chilling out at home with baby Will. Will is becoming a pro at smiling, laughing and waving “bye bye”…. He learned quickly that if he just complies, then dad won’t cause him to suffer from shaken baby syndrome. Tiffany and Lawson promised multiple vlogs and have only dropped 2 so far. They haven’t shared an update in weeks, but it seems her due date is Christmas Day, so she still has a week and a half to go. Or not… no one knows. We do get a quick sighting of Duke the Dog. He lives exclusively in the backyard, but gets his fair share of being exploited when Lawson scores a paid ad from a dog food brand. Tiffany talks to the camera while sitting in the nursery and says the baby’s name is right in front of the viewer’s face…people guess John or Gilvin… or maybe Espensen… but really with these 2, the kid could be named CRIB or CARPET… or Tiffathon?? I am sure we will find out sometime in the next 6 months. I sure hope the Red Flag Guy is ready. 10.Bits and Bytes….Trace says he is encouraging Kelly to start her own YouTube. He says she should start by sharing on IG. Where has he been? Kelly Jo hawks yet another product that she isn’t paid for… it’s a set of high dollar frying pans and they may not be sending her a check, but she certainly got free product and she happily shares the link…Esther continues to document her workouts and she also shows off pics and videos from their time in Vegas…Evan and Carlin are installing a new fancy automated gate. One thing they can’t replace? The huge electrical wires and transmitters looming right over their house. Tell us again about how desirable this place is…During the kids walk through of the house Zade takes a hard fall opening a closet door and Layla knocks herself out cold while jumping in a low celing closet… concussions all around! Have a great week friends. If you are like me and in charge of all of the Holly and the Jolly… Godspeed. We are almost there! submitted by /u/dixcgirl10 to r/BatesSnark [link] [comments]

10.Bits and Bytes…Trace says he is encouraging Kelly to start her own YouTube. Tell us again about how desirable this place is…During the kids walk through of the house Zade takes a hard fall opening a closet door and Layla knocks herself out cold while jumping in a low ceiling closet… concussions all around! Have a great week friends. If you are like me and in charge of all of the Holly and the Jolly… Godspeed. We are almost there! submitted by /u/dixcgirl10 to r/BringingUpBates [link] [comments]

Hi all. I’m going on a cruise to Alaska this weekend and have been struggling packing. I know the weather can be unpredictable so I have been packing EVERYTHING. But I definitely need to take some stuff out because bringing half my closet is probably not recommended haha. We are stopping in Icy straight point, Juneau, and Ketchikan. Also if anyone has must do excursions please also let me know!!! I’m so excited!! submitted by /u/Safe_Campaign_4342 to r/Cruise [link] [comments]

Breaking Down Bates
1.It’s been a few weeks since we checked in to the Stewart’s studio lot but the only thing that has changed is Layla’s smile. Despite the best efforts of her parents to keep her a perpetual toddler, Layla is growing up and shedding teeth. They seize the moment and create as much content as they can including setting up a hidden camera in Layla’s room to catch her as she wakes up. Good luck trying to find the line these parents won’t cross, if there is one… it is in constant motion. They have 20 million views on their backyard makeover reel which should be enough to allow them to relax for a bit, but there are no days off with this bunch. They have cameras, lighting and boom microphones all over their house and so many cords running everywhere that Evan ends up using a backup camera bc someone tripped over one of his pro camera cords and broke the entire port. While they scrape around looking for content they decide to feature a vlog showing a bit of behind the scenes. It is beyond obvious that the kids are thrown in front of the TV while mom and dad sit around editing whatever they have filmed. They are also both filming these days as we get Carlin’s viewpoint on her IG and Evan’s viewpoint on YouTube. Because they are so engrossed in their cameras they are forever taking a wrong turn, going in a wrong door or…buying the wrong item. They try to make it seem comical, but these are grown folks just bumbling along. They have VBS at their church and get new carpet installed upstairs. Ellie, Addee and Warden come over to do the heavy lifting bc Evan is always, always “editing”…. He even shows us him hiding out in his car, away from his family to “edit”. At VBS Layla has a starring roll as… JEZEBEL. Carlin and Evan think this is absolutely wonderful and film Layla at the front of the class playing up to the camera. I think that VBS teacher may have a seriously sarcastic streak. In the VBS finale, per usual, Layla doesn’t know the words or the motions to the songs and mainly just grins for mommy’s camera. Carlin is 33 weeks pregnant and having to take heprin shots twice a day and visit the OB 2 times a week. She also needs iron infusions and says she is exhausted but… Evan is still skipping town for a birthday boys only cruise. At one of the doctor’s visits they weigh the kids and Zade is heavier than Layla… she isn’t happy about this, but Carlin assures her that it’s fabulous and just how things should be bc he is a BOY. They are sticking to their story that they don’t know the gender of the new baby and Evan is struggling trying to pretend to be interested in any part of this pregnancy. In between selling every single item she touches, Carlin pushes her audience to guess on gender, and give her names. They share tons of pool content, including Layla modeling with her legs in the air on a pool chaise and of course there’s a crap ton of golf content that they are committed to making folks care about. They take the kids to Top Golf after stopping at the store to buy Layla her own clubs. Zade gets nothing while Layla gets the clubs, a hat… and all of the camera time. Once at Top Golf, Layla has to point out to these 2 hapless fools that they have purchased left handed clubs for her… their right handed daughter. The video gets a heavy edit while Layla has her meltdown, and picks back up when the siblings decide to act like angels again. Layla learns how to put her hair in a ponytail AND the script AI wrote for her about it, so Carlin films her showing that off and princess needs some work at not OVERacting. They are gifted a huge 3 seater stroller so they will be able to wheel around the money makers and still have plenty of room for all of their camera equipment. The family is off to Nashville to visit Evan’s family who they have not seen in months. I hope NeNe has her hair did and her face on bc any visit from the Stew Crew means she is on deck as supporting actress in their fairytale. 2.Katie Clarke continues to struggle holding together her many brand partnerships and product endorsement deals while her husband has mysteriously shape-shifted from wanna be Christian pop star to nursing student seemingly overnight. She’s having to edit, sell, post and care for 2 children all alone and that just doesn’t happen in fundie land. She shares lots of old footage from Baby Will’s first birthday and then gets a super exciting Costco membership. She slings links for everything she buys and in between exploits her kids. Travis takes a break from “studying” long enough to film Hailey recording a song using their long forgotten podcast equipment. He uploads it and plays it in the car for Katie with Hailey front and center for the camera. She’s a born influencer bc she already knows her lines, her marks, and just how to get the internet aunties reaction. Sadly, this reel doesn’t perform as well as when they dressed her up as a mermaid. I guess no matter how hard he tries… Travis just can’t break into the music world. Katie is selling clothes like crazy and wants you to buy her $110 jeans and $80 dresses. She’s also selling several different energy drinks and powders and Travis is promoting car wash products. GiGi sends a big present for Hailey and they put together a toddler tower for her so that they can get her tall enough for those kitchen filming sessions. Hailey has to sell those $500 charm bracelets again and Katie lies and says she never takes it off. She also has to pretend to like that God cartoon so mommy gets a check, but she is very obviously clueless as to what it is. Trying to find content, they head to downtown Knoxville for ice cream and Katie is selling a $160 bathing suit. Harvey turns 10 months old, even though it feels like the kid has been around forever. I wonder if he has his SAG card yet. Travis’ brother Mike and his wife Devin have their baby and name him Cade. I guess one fundie Cade wasn’t enough. Millions of names in this world…millions….and these folks keep using the same names over and over. Travis gets his first pair of scrubs in and Katie films him wearing them while tying his shoes…tie them tight Travis… don’t want to trip while you are running away…. 3.Josie Balka is now the mother of a 6 year old at 25 years old. For Willow’s 6th birthday, she gets her ears pierced… along with her 4 year old sister AND her mommy. That’s right, everyone gets new earrings and gets filmed while it is happening of course. Josie’s marketing team has decided it is now time for her to lean in to her pregnancy so we get lots of what she calls “drafts” from her first trimester. This is all a carefully calculated marketing plan to separate her content from the 40 other pregnant family members. She films herself casually lying in bed with no makeup and tells us how absolutely awful she feels bc she just doesn’t have the energy to curl her hair and slather on her usual quart of face paint. While Josie is busy editing/hiding in her bathroom/spinning her hair onto a pool noodle, Hazel saws off almost every inch of hair on her head. I don’t mean just a little snip… I mean inches of hair are gone. Every bang that ever strayed onto her little forehead has been whacked. The child was obviously left unattended for quite some time to achieve this level of mess. Before Kelton gets home, Josie is able to seize the moment, capture the content, and stick a bow on Hazel’s head. Kelton picks Josie up so that they can film together at the doctor’s office. He feels her up in the elevator while she coos into the camera and then shows everyone her urine sample and records her doctor, most likely without her permission. Even though Josie was the sickest pregnant woman ever, she somehow still managed to make it to the Jesus Gym and we see so many workout shots. Just over and over, her moving her camera around so she can stick her God honoring butt out and film herself. Back at the homestead Kelton is paying an ounce of attention to the girls by making perfume, so Josie films it all and sticks it in between ads for pots and pans, online groceries, energy powder, makeup and tutorials for the heatless curler she just won’t let go of. She is heading off on a girls trip to Florida and lets us all know that Kelton made her breakfast, the girls gave her gifts and it all just made her cry. It didn’t make her cancel her flight though, and she heads off with the same crew she always hangs with. Here’s to 26… may it bring a new McMansion… and an IUD. 4.Late summer in the swamplands of Florida is miserable and who better to portray that misery than mean ole Alyssa Webster. She’s whiling the days away doing the same old, same old. Filtering pictures of flowers, clouds, coffee and her kids. The only Webster that hasn’t learned the forced smile for the camera is Rhett. He consistently makes a stinky face and I am here for it. Lexi gets a stand-alone post for completing a summer reading challenge sponsored by the second lady. Alyssa slaps tags all over it of the VP, his wife and the White House. I’m sure they are all personal friends. Rhett gets called up to star in one of mom’s reels to try and up her engagement so she can get a brand deal. She smears whipped cream on his face and then pretends that he stole her coffee that is in a cup with a lid on it. Ah, the hijinks and the humor are just unreal (truly). While lounging by her pool, Alyssa treats everyone to a q and a where she speaks in a disassociated, monotone voice about the horrors of being a parent. She says she keeps her children in year round school because otherwise she would lose her marbles and they would expect to, you know, DO things and GO places and she can’t be having all of that. She says she is thinking of taking to YouTube to film a tutorial about homeschooling. What… she’s gonna demonstrate how to power on the DVD and place the headphones on each child? We see Allie, who is supposedly in 6th grade, cutting out scraps of paper with safety scissors and then Alyssa says she misses the fall weather in Tennessee. You know you can go back, right ‘Lyss?? She also shows off her grocery pickup which features off brand junk and one small head of broccoli. Maci is throwing a temper tantrum in the background and you can hear Sistermom Allie handling that. She posts picture after picture of the girls in their bathing suits, swimming in the pool. You just know that thing doubles as their bath tub. John is nowhere to be seen and Alyssa says he works long hours. I bet some of those hours are at the ball field, and some are spent hiding in his truck, parked on a back road. Warden and Ellie come by for a visit to lighten the mood a bit and Alyssa gets a promo box from a pizza chain. It includes a gift card that she immediately cashes in. 5.Zach and Whitney are still on their “influencer as career” path. Homeboy hasn’t mentioned a house sale in months and months and Whitney is back to selling everything in her house. If they send her a package, she will shill it. Zach is still trying to cook but everything is covered in gravy or cheese… or both…even though he says he is on a diet and shows himself walking on a treadmill. Whitney stops in to the boutique and answers questions while flicking her hands all over the place and talking at the speed of sound. She says Zach loves low rise jeans. Couple that with the French tip manicure we know he also loves and… well… yea, they are stuck in 2006. Zach is constantly outside sweating over that flat top grill and a few times he seems to confuse his sweat mop with his hand drying towel… and man, it’s a lot. They get a new set of luggage that they want you to buy and that means a brand sponsored trip is coming. This time they scored Universal tickets and a stay at some resort near the park that no one can pronounce. They both go to great pains to explain why the 3 littles are being left at home with Aunt Ellie instead of telling us the real reason… which is that Universal gave them 4 passes. They eek out the content from this 3 day get away to make it seem that they are in Florida for a full week, but the dates they show and the clothes they wear give it away. Whitney says over and over that they are making core memories with their oldest kids who are quickly outgrowing these types of things. Their children are 9 and 10 so they have a ways to go. She films the entire trip including swimming underwater and stops at gas stations and Brad and Kaci work hard to earn the few rides they get to go on. They are careful not to show any Harry Potter and stick to mainly How To Train Your Dragon which is apparently somewhat fundie approved. Zach says he saw all of his Florida family while they were in town, but even though they show us everything… we don’t see the first picture with Erin, Alyssa or Jackson. I can’t explain enough how much these two are selling. They sell toiletries and home goods and clothes and kitchen prep and vitamins and hair care and curriculum and games and toys and furniture and food and restaurants and prepackaged food and car stuff… they are truly a WalMart… a rolling 30 second ad. In between the selling they are heavily exploiting Khloe and Lilly…their 2 youngest girls. Khloe is filmed licking batter from a spoon and Lilly is promoted as adoring her big brother Bradley. Bradley is obviously a full time brothermom these days. Zach attempts to cook another chicken dish for his vlog but he screws it up within the first ten seconds, and then talks about the screw up throughout the video. He says he can’t hardly watch his first few vlogs because he has improved so much since then. Um, sir… please point out the improvement. 6.Trace and Lydia are really feeling the effects of being sidelined by a newborn. They have had to resort to squeaking out 2 entire vlogs focused on Lydia having wisdom teeth removed. Trace is over excited for Lydia to be all loopy after surgery so that he can ask her questions…. Sadly, she’s an overtired mom and does nothing but sleep. For hours. And hours. This leaves Trace to call in Kelly Joe for backup, but she isn’t up for starring in a wisdom tooth removal vlog and mostly just sits on the couch and pats Lydia’s arm. She does come in clutch by instructing a clueless Trace to get Lydia some ice packs… and then she’s gone. Kelly doesn’t do caretaking. That’s what Michael (or Callie) is for. Lydia does make a few reels in her tiny bathroom putting on her makeup and takes Ryker to Marshall’s to buy a scooter so he can terrorize Maui and ram it into their tiny house walls. She praises Trace for being so helpful, and we see him folding clothes and caring for Ryker. It’s really just rinse and repeat with these 2 these days. They haven’t ventured far although Trace promises that “fun” is coming very soon. He pretends to drink some powdered greens that are sponsoring their vlog and heads out to golf with Evan. Trace is wearing white pants and Evan is wearing a hot pink hat and an outfit featuring hot pink details. The 2 of them together are quite a site. Trace has lost a ton of weight and is skinnier than he has ever been. Lydia is also working out like crazy and it doesn’t appear she was ever pregnant. Lydia’s family has kept Ryker and Kaia a ton while she recovers from her infection and this wisdom tooth surgery. Trace takes Ryker over to Carlin’s to swim in the pool and then heads to Costco… the new fundie hot spot with Kellie Joe. Kaia Bates better start doing something soon or this ship is really going to sink. It’s no wonder Trace is back to police work and taking night classes. 7.Michael and Brandon started the year hoping to be vloggers and hit it big, but becoming foster parents has definitely sidelined that plan. They can’t show the children on their social media, so Michael is relegated to featuring pictures of flowers, water and bugs. She did share posts from Baby Will’s first birthday weeks after the fact and she has the foster baby in a carrier, wearing him. Lawson actually did a good job editing the party content so the 2 little boys can’t be seen at the actual party. You can see Michael giving the baby a bottle while Will opens his gifts. The children have been with them for a while now and they have been super tight lipped about what is happening with them currently. Meanwhile, they haven’t had a new vlog in about a month. 8.Erin and Chad were getting low on money, so he allowed her to return to social media once again. During a q and a she shows off her chore charts and homeschooling charts which feature lots of Bible time and piano lessons, praises Chad for waiting on her hand and foot (what the heck else does he have to do) and says Tori is her BFF (surprise, surprise). She says she enjoyed a visit with her parents in July… they must have been in town for Jackson’s baby’s birth, but doesn’t see them enough. She takes to YouTube with a sourdough bread tutorial that is supposed to feature Carles. After about 2 minutes of standing beside mom while she does everything, he disappears and she takes over. This bread making thing has about 89 steps and takes several days, but she is committed and does it on repeat. Erin grinds her own wheat, y’all. That’s right… $65 per pound bulk wheat is being shipped to the Florida compound and she grinds it using a $300 mill (thanks homeschool scholarship). She and Chad head to an ultrasound appointment for baby Henry, then out to eat and… you guessed it… to Costco. Back at home she shows off a ton of new baby items that she says were given to her by a “friend”. The handouts never stop with these folks. Erin is shilling for an organic makeup line founded by a fundamentalist and then she thanks Tikky for sending clothes for her children. What that woman, Tikky, gets out of this I will never understand. Tori and family show up at the Paine rental for a week of tempered fun and fellowship. They head to the deserted clay beach where the kids try not to be weighed down by the tremendous amounts of clay and salty water sticking to their clothes and Bobby runs around chasing a ball like an untrained dog. Back in the subdivision all 11 kids terrorize the golf course and the neighborhood while Erin smiles and films. She happily shows off Carles’ artwork. He is taking lessons from another fundie mom and the work looks like…an average ten year old using crayons and markers drawing animals. There’s nothing gallery worthy here, but if she oohs and aahs over it enough, maybe folks will believe it is. Tori doesn’t seem to be with child right this moment but it’s hard to tell as she literally runs from the camera. Later, the entire Paine crew except for baby William load up and head to an ultrasound store to see new baby Henry. Addee is along to film the experience, but the cord is in front of the baby’s face and so the 5 little kids sit stoically, clueless as to what they are looking at. Erin decides to gift the world with her chore and school charts as free downloads. She shows how to laminate it using the machine (thanks homeschool scholarship) and extolls the virtues of the magical chart. This thing is just squares on a piece of paper that anyone can make and not end up on her fundie mailing list where she sends you Chad Paine’s Godly musings every week. 9.Trying to follow Lawson and Tiffany is next to impossible. They post both from the past and the present and are both in Nashville and California at the same time. It makes their content seem dicey when one minute Tiffy is stomping on her kitchen table wearing a colander on her head and the next she is swimming in her pool in sunny California. She’s making references to Lawson being featured on the “red flag guy’s” TikTok while boarding a plane and then also calling her kid 9 months old while celebrating his first birthday. It’s just a mish mash mess. A broad overview is that they badly want to be sitcom characters featured on a Christian TV channel with the average age of viewers being 60-89. Whenever they drop a vlog, it gets over 100,000 views, and Lawson says they have 120,000 subscribers so someone appreciates this junk, it just isn’t me. They have the worst ClickBate titles to their vlogs, and love to confuse folks so they ask questions, and drive up engagement. Funny enough, they have sponsors for every vlog, but Tiffy doesn’t shill stuff like all of the other Bates. Truly they must have a money tree in the backyard….probably why Duke the dog isn’t allowed back there. They share a vlog of Will’s birthday party held a few weeks before he actually turned one. They rented a pony to walk around in their backyard where they also now have chickens. I don’t know who cares for the dog OR the chickens, because they are never home. The party had a good many unknown guests and all of the Tennessee family besides Carlin showed up. They also drop a vlog from Tiffy’s 9 week ultrasound where Lawson is still talking about twins. Hopefully he now shuts up about that. They seem uncomfortable when they are together. Tiffy can’t talk about anything except the fact that she is pregnant again. It really would be a shock to any normal person, but she is far from normal. In real time they drive from Nashville to Rocky Top to take Callie out to eat for her sweet 16 birthday. Callie is Tiffy’s BFF and number one babysitter. I’m sure Kelly Joe appreciated having to put in zero effort. 10.Bits and Bytes… After putting their entire stock on sale for 40% off, the BSB is hosting yet another Cash and Carry to try and unload inventory. The Magic clothing show in Vegas is coming up… will BSB attend this year??...Kelly Joe wishes Lawson a happy 33rd birthday. Says he never has a bad thing to say about anyone and thanks him for treating her to the Alaska trip….Evan is shilling his $400 water machine again. The Stewarts now own 2…Kelly Joe shares Kelton’s latest plumbing ad that features his fleet of trucks. Kelton is big money and she’d like to stay in his good graces…Erin is having iron infusions just like Carlin. Crazy how they are pregnant at the exact same time and there is zero crossover…Kelly wishes Cambree a happy 3rd birthday in her very own post. She doesn’t have to share a post like Willow and Will…she also posts for Callie’s 16th birthday and says she motivates her to be a better person and she loves that she hands out tracts. Wonder if they are Rodrigues Family tracts??? Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the last days of summer! Have a great week friends. submitted by /u/dixcgirl10 to r/BringingUpBates [link] [comments]

Alaska Cruise, casual ware
We are going on the North Bound cruise in 2 weeks! This will be my first cruise, but my husband and in-laws went over 10+ years ago. I know in general cruises should be more formal and know that Alaskan cruises will be more relaxed, but are ripped jeans too relaxed for even the casual restaurants? Trying to pack early and hoping to be as versatile with my outfits as I can! submitted by /u/stich2013 to r/PrincessCruises [link] [comments]

Breaking Down Bates
1.Now that the Stewarts have erected a netting style fence around the hole of water in their backyard, they are free to film back there again without the crowd screaming at them about water safety… and they waste no time setting up the tripods, getting the kids in maximum exploitation mode, inviting the family over and showcasing it all week long for the world to see. Carlin barely makes time for Pilates content with Katie because she is dying to get back home and film Layla in a bathing suit with cousin Khloe dancing and performing for the cameras. It’s not all fun and games though… Carlin does have to head in to the Boutique to prepare for the big weekend sale. She’s wearing a $14 H&M dress which is cheaper than anything she is trying to sell you and says she is so glad Evan is going with her because he makes it slightly more enjoyable. Sounds like she’s being dragged into that store these days. On the way to mid-week service, Carlin talks to the camera while constantly rubbing her belly. I bet the sides of her stomach are raw from rubbing at this point. She says she is in hibernation mode, just living in her pool and is excited to get to church to eat meatloaf. Layla is in the backseat and never even looks up…. She’s glued to her tablet and seems less than interested in entertaining the masses these days. At church she meets up with Katie and Josie and has a mini photo shoot as the influencer 3… fat lips and fake tans should be the caption. We see Layla in her parent’s bed a lot this week. First asleep with a shirtless Evan and then tucked in while Evan reads her a story. While most people are working, the Stew Crew is hosting a backyard bash complete with 9 kids and 6 adults that all have nothing better to do on a random weekday. Zach does the cooking while everyone films and everyone has approximately 2 square feet of water to bob around in. Considering the amount of small children in this pool, what do you think the ratio of water to urine was at the end of the day? The entire Bates family is sponsored by Dot’s Pretzels this week because they are spotted everywhere. Carlin is officially in her 300th… I mean 3rd…trimester now and that calls for a photo shoot. She asks for name suggestions and nursery inspiration even though she has already told us they aren’t having a nursery per say. They take the kids to a new, fancy park on the hottest day of the year and film them trying to ride their scooters. Carlin is linking everything she touches, or anything in the camera’s view these days and you know…. The Stewarts haven’t really had any big paid partnerships lately. We haven’t seen Disney or Dole or the God App in a minute. They are living off of the nickels and dimes the links bring in, along with the dollars from views. The vlog is another boring slog of things we have already seen all week on IG. They say Katie and Travis came over until 4am to help organize their garage and Evan was working at the church teen camp all week. They try to show a work day at BSB, but the AC isn’t working, and they abandon that idea pretty quickly. They tell the camera that this 3rd pregnancy is just the biggest milestone ever and once again, Evan doesn’t want to talk about it because it “stresses him out”. Carlin shoots him lots of side-eye and tries to keep her attitude in check. She says they are trying to spend lots of time with their kids now, before she totally ignores them when the new baby gets here. Zade has to clock in and do most of the heavy filming again this week, because Layla is a bit player these days. He is featured in Carlin’s GRWM saying “DahDuh u so HaHa” and “SiSi me”. Carlin speaks back to him in her singsong baby talk while interpreting for the audience… “Daddy you so handsome”…. “silly me”. Addee keeps the kids while Carlin and Evan head out to meet the crowds at the Boutique sale. It’s a decent crowd, but nothing like the lines they had just a few years ago. They wrap the week getting ready for church in the bathroom while Carlin wants you to know that these are the best days of her life. Layla plays along preening for the camera talking about her outfit. Carlin says they are matching in Amazon dresses… those Mommy & Me BSB frocks are nowhere to be seen. Zade tells everyone to have a “Goo MowMow” as the camera fades to black on another week in the life of a fundie influencer. 2.Katie Clark loves a church flower bed photo shoot, and that’s how she starts the week. We also see Hailey packed into a high chair, throwing food at Travis. Katie says she loves sitting in the chair even though she’s much too big for it…. Convenient way to keep her in one spot for easy exploitation! Katie heads to yet another Pilates class with Carlin and then heads back home to stare deadpan into the camera and read a script with absolutely no emotion for some baby formula that she may have given her baby once, several months ago. Harvey is the star of the ad that goes along with this sales pitch, and we see a day in his life. It’s the worst acting ever and I almost feel bad for the formula company that sent her a check for this. It doesn’t perform as well as her usual child exploitation videos, garnering less than a hundred comments. Josie has shilled for this same company, and she comments 4 different times, trying to up Katie’s engagement. She and Travis head out on a day date, kayaking with Ellie and Warden. She links all of the snacks plus the stop at Sonic on the way home. The hottest TikTok trend right now is calling someone you aren’t normally close to and telling them “good night”. Travis attempts to play this prank on Gil, but he’s happy to hear from Travis and tells him good night right back. Gil says he is exhausted from cutting 6 big trees. I thought Zach just told us his dad didn’t really work in the tree business anymore? Do these folks even know what Gil does all day? Of course Katie gets tons of comments from folks saying she has the world’s sweetest dad. No one mentions that this sweet man is also on the board of a religious fertility cult that believes in corporal punishment and misogyny. Katie shows off her no bun hamburger from the mid-week pool party and says the food really “slapped”. The weekly vlog is sponsored by dog toys and treats and Hailey has to join Remi to film this ad. The big news is that Travis is in nursing school. That’s right. The dude who already travels to Nashville to pursue his dream of music is also now in school, studying to become a nurse, and then probably “more than JUST a nurse”. This was his dream as a child, so obviously, he gets to pursue it. Katie swears that she didn’t want to go to school and is perfectly happy being a mom. She raves over how amazingly smart Travis is, and how he is just able to do it all. He says that social media has paid for his schooling. Translate that to mean that Hailey and Harvey have paid for their dad to go to school. They want us to know that this social media gig is very iffy (wonder what partnership they were passed over for??) and Travis can’t see himself doing a YouTube vlog at 40 or 50. Shots fired EVAN. He tells everyone that his music makes no money… as if this is a surprise…and that one day they will be irrelevant on social media…he means when his kids aren’t little and cute anymore. Katie keeps saying their vlog/online presence will change, while Travis keeps saying he is going to keep doing it. It sounds like they are in a real season of change in their marriage. This is what happens when you get married as practically middle schoolers. Do we really believe that Travis is going to be working night shift in a local hospital exposed to and helping all sorts of people? He says he can use his training to help his church, and that seems way more likely. They wrap it all up by saying they are heading to Janie’s for the 4th. Katie has seemed so unhappy since having Harvey, maybe she will get her way and they will retire from social media and slink into oblivion…. But probably not. She has to pick up the slack while Travis is studying and that means more links… to protein powder, the clothes she is wearing, the pilates studio, and the $700 ice maker she uses. Remember the reel showing Hailey being dressed up as a mermaid? It has 6.2 million views on YouTube Shorts. The program pays creators 45% of the ads that play in between the shorts... pure exploitation fueling their lifestyle and nothing they say or do will change that. 3.While Katie is ramping up her selling and Carlin hardly has anything to sell…. Josie Balka is influencing like there is no tomorrow. Girlfriend is leaning in and saying yes like their livelihood depends on it. She’s drinking vitamins you should buy and resetting her house in a robe you really need. She’s putting on makeup that makes her much more productive and that will also change your life. She’s filming herself in the Jesus Gym all alone, except for her camera, in workout gear that will give you her snatched waist. She says she has been very sick this pregnancy but is determined to work out and keep up her Barbie doll appearance. The girls are filmed playing at their new property, in their back yard pool and helping her make her high protein lunch. She debuts a new feature called “Dinner with the Balkas” starring Kelton cooking bagged, frozen meatballs while wearing baby Miles in a Lawson style baby carrier. Kelton plays up to the camera and we see him in bed with the girls reading their nightly devotional. On top of all of that… Josie is back on the shop page featuring pool noodle tutorials again. She must never sleep because she is perpetually rolling and unrolling her hair out of that dern noodle. Josie shows off her lunch of sliced tomato topped with cottage cheese… it’s a bird sized portion, of course. While munching on her rabbit food she says that kids just don’t get enough fiber and to beat that the girls are placed in front of the camera to sell some fiber lollipops. Surely those will fix everything. Kelton hits the kitchen again for more frozen meatball meals. Josie says he always cooks when she is pregnant and post-partum… yea, we know… and we know why too Josie. All week long she films herself doing her Christ Calisthenics and there is no baby bump to be seen. Unlike her sister, Josie doesn’t want there to be a bump at all. She links all of her gear, her jewelry, and the little easy-set pool the girls swim in. She tells the camera she has lots of meetings coming up… for what? Obviously for the new sneaker collab and athleisure wear partnerships she drops this week. She spends about 27 hours alone behind her bedroom door trying on clothes and modeling for her camera while telling the audience how “stinking cute” these items are and how she is “obsessed” with… herself. She promotes the noodle and the hair comb while in the car heading to a cookout where the girls are once again filmed in swimsuits and Kelton is grilling kabobs. Does she ever get tired of looking at herself? 4.This week was the Webster girls’ very favorite week of the year. The week where they are guaranteed to be able to leave their house every day and be around someone besides their mother, even though the person is very likely exactly like their mother. Yes, it was Vacation Bible School time down in Florida. Because Alyssa was super busy with VBS she didn’t have her normal time to distort her children’s appearances and remove their noses. What she did instead was drop one big grid post of pictures from the week with the most heinous, grainy filter she could find. It turned everything fake tan orange and splotchy and gave freckles to some while giving others vitiligo. Rhett looks miserable in his sad hat as usual, and John managed to leave work to attend, also wearing the sad hat. Alyssa is front and center in a fake cowboy hat, ripped jeans and boots and the girls all smile for mommy so she will quickly move on and leave them alone. 5.Zach and Whitney Bates seem almost desperate in their influencing attempts. They are both steady posting content, and constantly reposting what the other has already posted. Zach has apparently finished or given up on his diet because he starts the week sharing a sausage and pasta recipe. In the comments, he keeps mentioning a cookbook. I just know AI is going to write this thing. Whitney only talks to the camera while driving or riding in the car these days. She and Kaci are headed in to work at the boutique and she really wants you to come to their sale. She says they have so many items, and she ain’t lying. The boutique is absolutely packed with clothes. Whitney keeps talking about the heatwave, but she is wearing a full sweater…. It’s available at the shop for just $50 for everyone who is freezing in this 95 degree heat. Zach shares a post from Ellie showing off homemade wings he made for her. Speaking of Ellie, Khloe gets to hang out with her for the day and Whitney films her getting ready for her date, singing and dancing for the camera. They probably pay for babysitting in Purdue chicken wings. On the way to Vacation Bible School, Whitney says the time has finally come for them to join a Wholesale Club and wonders if Sam’s or Costco is better. Zach needs to buy mayonnaise and cheese in bulk. He films everything he cooks for the Stewart’s pool party and it ain’t diet food. He has the kids all line up at the door and Evan helps by not cooking a dang thing. Whitney shows off the kids’ swimsuits and her own and links everything, all day long. Zach is now at the filming yourself washing your car level of influencer and Whit is happy to repost it all. These 2 are just so obviously giddy in love…. Right? In this week’s Bates Kitchen, Lawson joins in to wander around behind Zach while Zach slings seasonings, flour and bread crumbs all over the place. They melt a shaft wagon full of cheese and put it on top of a chicken breast and noodles and voila! Yet another version of chicken parmesan. I think that’s like the 4th one now. Anyway, Lawson actually brings up the fact that he bought groceries for the family back in the day. Zach tries to steer the conversation away and say that Gil actually bought the groceries, but Lawson isn’t letting it go. To promote this nightmare, ole no neck Zach gets way to close to his iPhone and begs folks to watch. Whitney says she is so very thankful she gets to work with Carlin, and shows some behind the scenes from the Cash and Carry event. We see Kelly Joe there, and a pretty decent sized crowd, the only line seems to be the one to meet the family. The girl at the register isn’t busy at all. Maybe that’s why they are desperately influencing. 6.Trace and Lydia’s new baby is almost three weeks old now and they finally share a reel of her dressed in a pink monogrammed sweater set. Once they post, Kelly is free to share the 846 pictures she took at the birth and she happily posts away. The 2 vlogs featuring Kaia’s birth have both topped 100,000 views, and that means they can get more robot vacuums and watch companies to sponsor this mess in the future. Lydia shares a reel from the last week of her pregnancy where she just says “will today be the day” over and over into a bathroom mirror. One might think she was 2 weeks past due, but the fact is… she never reached even 40 weeks. We also see a photo shoot taken during their Golden Hour post birth. Josie took the pool noodle out of Lydia’s hair and styled it before taking these pictures… all in the first hour the baby was here. Lydia also shares a reel taking her first shower after giving birth. Josie is there in the comments saying how amazing that first shower is. These women relish every second of birth… it’s almost like an addiction. There’s a great idea for a TLC Show…. “Birth Addiction”. The vlog this week has them still in the hospital and baby Ryker is coming to meet his new sister. It’s all sponsored by a mattress company. Ryker isn’t even 2 and could not care less about the baby. He is more excited about the buttons on the hospital bed and the new remote control car they got him as a “move over” gift. Trace says Kelly stayed at the hospital with them until 4am so they could sleep. Lydia can’t believe she has a girl baby, so even after birth, that hasn’t changed. They talk about the baby’s dark hair and features. They both keep saying they want to get home and “relax and enjoy”. Her mom is keeping Ryker but they are deep in their delusion if they think they are going home to a vacation. Oh, also Trace says he is so glad Lydia pumped some KOSHRUM so he can help feed the baby… 7.Erin Paine is back in the IG pulpit this week, preaching about making time for what is truly important. For her, that is Bible time. To heck with this Math and English mess. Bible time is where it’s at and to help you brain wash your own children, she is selling God cards. The ABC’s of Christ are specially written for young children with easy to understand stories like “God is a God of truth without iniquity”… and “live justly, walk humbly for one day judgment will come”. I mean… perfect for every 4-6 year old, obviously. Erin also shows off the sourdough bread her family is living off of. She serves it on a cutting board Chad made for her in his never ending spare time. It is engraved with the saying “Hello beautiful… you are dearly loved” because obviously SHE is the only one who will ever use it. The other side probably says “are you ovulating?” Erin ends the week out in the oppressive Florida heat with Willie rolling around in a kiddie pool full of rocks and murky water. Man… what a life. 8.Michael is always the first to congratulate her siblings for procreating. She shares pictures of meeting Baby Kaia and congratulates Trace and Lydia. She also promotes the BSB warehouse sale and shares a dozen more sunset pictures. What she really, really wants to do though, is to show off the 2 foster children she is still caring for. Every week there’s a little more. First a hand, then a foot, half of a body… and this week we get the backside of the 3 year old being held by Brandon down at the lake. Michael is happy to share that he has started preschool work and she had workbooks and pencils delivered so that school can begin. While answering a few questions, she says they only recently starting seriously pursuing adoption… and it was after her miscarriage of 2021. Sounds like some IBLP tenets slipping in there, perhaps? Her favorite meal of late was a stew made with beans and kale…just what a little kid wants to eat… She also talks about how much she adores her church because they keep to the Bible, even when “it’s hard”… so when you have a bleeding heart for this woman, remember that. The biggest shocker though, is that she showed up to the Cash and Carry, a large public event, wearing the foster baby. Fans took pictures of her WITH this child. Complete strangers were able to ogle and ooh and awe over this baby while Michael wandered about with him in a carrier. She says she hasn’t been to the farm since Papa Bill’s funeral and isn’t sure when she will be back. Maybe they won’t go to the farm for the 4th because there is a 96% chance that one of her siblings will film the kids and post it…. Or maybe they aren’t allowed to leave the state. 9.What does it say that Tiffany’s best friend in the Bates family is Callie? Callie is over the moon, almost in tears to find out that Tiffany is pregnant. Weird reaction for a 15 year old, but Tiff is excited to call Callie her “little bestie”. They drop a vlog of them telling different family members they are expecting. Erin and Tori are together, and Esther is home alone. They also awkwardly tell Chad and Bobby… and they tell the parents while on their Alaska Cruise. At the airport before the Alaska trip, Tiffany leaves a bag and Lawson says they called for “Tiffany Espensen” over the intercom. Did she not change her name? Lawson allowed that? Anyway, back in real time they share a reel celebrating Will turning 11 months old. That kid better enjoy the spotlight while he has it. Tiffy films them buying some sparklers for baby Will and she says how wild it is that you can purchase “explosives” in Tennessee. If those sparklers blow up, that’s on Lawson, honey, not the South. Will is permanently in the carrier on Lawson’s back. Lawson drops a second vlog featuring his sit down with the 3 youngest Bates. They give pat answers to all of his fake questions and we learn nothing new. The youngest JebJud doesn’t even want to be there and quietly sulks through it all and Callie does most of the talking. It seems odd for a bunch of grown folks to be tuning in to hear what 15, 14 and 13 year olds have to say. Lawson continues to find a way to ClickBate his audience…over and over and over again he mentions the possibility of twins, even though we have already seen their ultrasound that clearly shows one baby. Tiffy shares a reel saying she was pregnant last June and is pregnant this June… pregnant for 3 whole years at this point. She positions this as something to brag about, but most people just feel very sorry for her pelvic floor. 10.Bits and Bytes…BSB is selling lounge wear… a tank top and shorts set is $75 and the same set with polyester blend pants is $85…Kelly Joe shares that Trace and Warden won their pretend football championship. They are sponsored by Kelton’s company, but he didn’t play…Carlin and Whitney answer questions about the Cash and Carry. They say the store is beyond packed with clothes and they will hold an online sale to try and dump this stuff…The Stew Crew’s last vlog discussing Zade’s speech caused a war in the comments. So many, many grandmas and great grandmas arguing about the child’s communication…Esther shares a picture of Kenna in full lipstick, puckering up for the camera….Kelly Joe spends a day with Kaci alone and shares about it. They went to the aquarium and Kelly is beyond thrilled for the one on one time…. Katie is back to exploiting Hailey at her gymnastics class while Travis films the entire thing… Have a great week friends. I’m off on vacation looking for a reprieve from this Southern humidity. It’s like walking through melted Vaseline outside! submitted by /u/dixcgirl10 to r/BringingUpBates [link] [comments]

Alaska Cruise - 7 nights on Princess from Seattle
Just cancelled a hiking trip I had planned for June as my companion has bad plantar fasciitis. We decided to regroup and found a decent deal on a last minute Alaskan cruise instead. Honestly, if we were’t adding my husband to the trip and upgrading to a balcony, Alaska in an inside cabin would be cheaper than our Nevada/Utah hiking trip. We likely will be visiting Mendenhall glacier and going whale watching in Juneau, driving to Emerald Lake in Yukon in Skagway, and going kayaking in Ketchikan. Planned wardrobe: Plane outfit: - Vuori joggers (for hanging out on the ship, flying, and active days) - blue and gold blouse - Athleta Pranayama Wrap (will wear under puffer if necessary) - North Face Thermoball puffer (strapped to outside of 26+6) - darn tough socks - Hoka Stinsons shoes Packing clothing: - Athleta Venice Wideleg pants (good for dinners in the main dining room or can be worn on excursions) - Thermal leggings (can be worn under Vuori leggings or under dresses) - 1 dress - 2 blouses - pajamas - wicking t-shirt - hat - gloves - gator - 2X pairs of darn tough socks - underwear and sports bra - swimsuit - raincoat - jewelry - Tieks ballet flats Do I need rain pants? Do I need some thin flip flops for the hot tub? What am I missing? submitted by /u/mmrose1980 to r/HerOneBag [link] [comments]

Alaska cruise mid June tips
Hey all! I've been successfully 1 bagging for roughly 2 years now and I feel like every time I travel I get better at it (especially from the tips in this sub)! I have an alaskan cruise (7 days with a day in Vancouver on each side) coming up in June and it is seriously stressing me out, though. We are doing a kayaking trip and a hike, and I don't feel too stressed about packing for normal activities but what is getting me is dinner on the ship. I don't know the best way to pack for mostly outdoorsy activities but still have room in my bag for a couple mix and match dinner outfits without my bag being stuffed full, since I normally just keep my bag very casual. I don't want to wear hiking clothes to the dining room if I can help it, but don't want to overdo it. I would absolutely love some suggestions and recommendations on how to optimize here because I'm really struggling on this one. submitted by /u/lanessia to r/HerOneBag [link] [comments]

What shoes did you bring on your Alaska cruise ?
Going on an Alaskan cruise end of June- early July. After doing research, everyone says to bring a pair of waterproof shoes that are walking/ possibly hiking friendly. Very few people actually said what specific shoes they wear. I don’t have any shoes that fit the bill for an everyday shoe on this trip, so I’ll be buying a pair. I’m not planning on doing intense hikes as my hip doesn’t allow it, but I will be walking a lot and would like them to be comfortable. I’ve been eyeing Vessi but they have mixed reviews. Looking for testimonies from people who have been on an Alaskan cruise or who otherwise have a waterproof shoe they have put through the wringer and can advocate for. Huge points if they’re cute enough that I will wear them with casual outfits outside of this trip, as I hate wasteful purchases ! submitted by /u/fakeprincess to r/HerOneBag [link] [comments]

Breaking Down Bates
1. This past week the Bates Sisters Boutique opened their doors for the public to shop. You know who wasn’t there? Any of the actual Bates sisters. Carlin doesn’t need to hawk dresses when she can cry on YouTube and pull in over 200,000 views. The Stew Crew is on to the next… and right now that is Utah ski resort content and some weird AI cartoon character named Bible Man. Carlin turns her social media over to a 45 second clip of this cartoon dude who is out chasing a female singer (of course) who needs to be destroyed for making music that turns people SAD. Bible Man says people should ALWAYS be joyful. Carlin is finding new, fresh ways to “keep sweet”… Billie Eilish must be quaking in her Tims that the Evangelicals are coming for her. We see Layla and Zade getting fitted for skis and equipment and Carlin takes time to sling links for everything in her suitcase. Evan is the first to share on his IG that the guys on the trip are at a Utah Jazz game. The Jazz are taking on the Lakers, and Evan features LeBron James warming up. We learn he is at the game with Lawson, Travis and Kelton and they have access to club level seats and snacks. Evan tries to Butch it up as much as he can, but the skittles and M&Ms he is holding lets us all know he would much rather be at Disney on Ice, exploiting his kids and wife. Carlin and Josie share the exact same content all week, causing followers to ask which one is morphing in to the other? The sisters have the 4 children dressed exactly alike on the slopes, and the only way to tell who is who is to look for the kid melting down into the snow… that’s Zade who gave them hell all week. So proud of that boy! Layla and Zade have a private ski lesson with the Balka girls and of course, Evan has a microphone on Layla and runs behind her filming with his movie studio camera for 3 solid hours. The child learned quickly just so she could ski away from his annoying azz. On Valentine’s Day Carlin shows us the flowers Evan sent to her… flowers that will be left behind at the rental house when they fly home less than 24 hours later. Carlin shows the Stewarts out to dinner with her parents, the Balkas and the Clarks. She is dressed to the nines with heavy makeup and seems to be very excited to be at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. It’s a chain, as a reminder. A pricey chain… but a chain, nonetheless. Carlin does a good job of pretending Evan is hot stuff, even though he mostly looks like a thumb in a nice jacket. In the weekly vlog Evan explains that Carlin’s “Main Family” came on the trip… mainly the ones that still speak to her? He and Travis rented Jeep trucks through Turo and he tells us that Kelton “sponsored” the Super Bowl party. This man is so entrenched in content for social media that he calls providing snacks “sponsored”. The vlog is 30 minutes of Carlin and Evan asking their kids if they love it, is it fun, are they excited, is this the best thing ever?? When Zade tells them NO, they just keep asking until the little tyke gives in and gives them the answer they wanted. Evan whines to the viewers about how tough it was to take his children to ski school and how much he hated it. Layla and Zade saw one morning of snow and skiing and that was it for the entire week. The vlog is Evan heavy, even though they are on a trip with Carlin’s family, and he also brags about taking her parents to a nice restaurant because they don’t ever get to do that. He shows himself giving Carlin the flowers and Layla chocolate covered strawberries... but, Zade gets nothing. Valentine’s is just for girls, apparently. The Stew Crew dropped major coin on this trip, and at the end of the day… the content was pretty boring. What could they possibly do next to top the last 3 months? 2. Katie is the first to post about the family ski trip and shows us Park City. We see Hailey being fitted for skis and equipment with Gil and Whitney comments about how precious it is. Katie tells her that she wishes they were there… why aren’t they? While she is away on vacation, Katie drops an ad for a car buying app. The app features the car she gave her mom...and I think this solves the mystery of “how did the Clarks buy Kelly Jo a whole car”. Kudos to Katie for running the ad 6 weeks after gifting the car. Katie is also promoting Bible Man and shows Gil watching an episode with all of the grandkids on the trip. I am sure it was followed by a sermon about the evils of Taylor Swift. Katie drops a reel of Hailey “skiing” for the very first time with Grandpa Gil. Travis can’t help bc he needs to film. The reel has over 20,000 likes…twice as many as Katie’s car app ad. Lawson shows himself with Travis, Evan and Kelton in a picture with poor lighting and no filters at the Jazz game. Lawson is decked out in UT gear at an NBA game, but when he comments that none of them have on Jazz gear, Travis sprints to the stadium store to buy a jersey, just like the over excited teen boy he is. Katie has a grid post showing herself skiing with Josie. She films herself heading back from the slopes in the car with Ellie and JebJud and they get to listen in while Big Sister slings a finance app and links every single thing she has worn or done all week long. Ellie is taking notes, I just know it. The Clarks weekly vlog is a repeat of everything we have already seen on social media. Travis films Katie in the bathroom with her sisters doing her makeup and helping her pick out an outfit. Katie still seems exhausted and is dialing it in. Travis lets us know he is the one with the Utah Jazz connection and we see his “friend” autograph his freshly purchased jersey. Doesn’t everyone want their friend’s autograph? On the way to dinner, Katie has Gil and Kelly Jo give marriage advice. We learn that acts of service is Katie’s love language and Travis admits he needs to step up more. One act of service would be to quit humiliating your wife on the weekly vlog…just a thought? 3. Josie Balka is fully back on social media and starts the week with a GRWM travel edition. She talks faster than an auctioneer, which is an influencer ploy to get engagement from folks commenting “what did you say so and so was?”…and then she can link it. She tells us it is tough to fly with a baby and shows the first pool noodle curl fail on record. Once the Balkas are in Utah, we see the girls getting fitted for ski gear and Kelton practicing with Willow who seems to be a natural at skiing. Several years ago she did well, and this year, she takes the big mountain with everyone cheering for her on the way down. Willow is a head taller than Layla, and much more mature. This may be the last year Kelton and Josie get to leave her behind. Josie posts lots of pictures of herself in her snow bunny fit, and a second GRWM featuring the girls. We see Willow and Hazel in matching outfits with Layla and Zade as they all march off for private ski lessons. While Josie films the girls learning, you can spot Evan in the background chasing after Layla with his huge camera…you just know he was panting. Anything for the shot. Josie says repeatedly how thankful she is to be making memories with her family…Carlin shares the same sentiment and you have to wonder… WHO are they talking to?? Josie and Kelton seem to ski more than any of the others, and she films them getting dressed to head to the slopes with Warden goofing for the camera. Obviously Josie is dedicated to the GRWM and she drops a third one showing all 3 sisters in the bathroom getting ready for date night. She says it takes her back to growing up, and they are all attempting to help Katie. Katie was featured on the show as the makeup artist, but now seems to be hapless and clueless. Josie wraps up the week with a photo shoot in the snow with old happy hands KTron. He continues to be the least glamorous thing in any of her content. 4. Maci Webster is 4 years old! The youngest Webster girl, who lives life knowing she was supposed to be a boy, celebrated the only way the Websters know how… with a tiny cake, a coffee drink and a creepy date with Lurch. Alyssa tries very hard to hide the fact that Kelly Jo was actually in town for Maci’s birthday, but she does let it slip that the latest tacky princess get up was a gift from Granny. Maci gets a grid post from her mom that features everything except Kelly Jo. Soon enough, the birthday is over and Alyssa is back to posting pictures of her weights in the garage and a shirtless Rhett with a missing nose. One day, we get 6 pictures of Rhett on the couch, with the dog all filtered to be the color of Trump’s face. On co-op day, a miracle happens… Alyssa posts her children with NO filter… IG was probably glitching. Even though the filter was missing, the painful, forced smiles were still on display. Those kids must have nightmares about her coming at them with her dang phone. John’s mom gave each child 5 one dollar bills for Valentine ’s Day… and that led to a Dollar Tree trip, and a stop in to an outlet for new shoes. When they return, Alyssa lines them all up and squirts some snake oil in their mouths while encouraging you to buy it, because it takes care of all of the sickness going around. Uh-huh. Alyssa shows us the sky, the dog, her water bottle and some cheap Valentine’s stickers and says “This Is Life” with absolutely NO emotion in her voice. She needs a few extra squirts of her snake oil. After co-op, Alyssa whines about how busy her Thursdays are… they have to take 3 classes at co-op and head to that creepy basement for karate. Maci is sitting with her eating gummies while she talks, so Alyssa starts filming her. Maci has absolutely nothing to say, but Alyssa keeps pushing her to talk…finally Maci is able to slide off of the couch and retreat to the sanctity of the quadruple bunk beds. On Valentine’s Day the kids each get a cup of whipped cream from the coffee shop and the girls get a book. Allie’s looks especially interesting-Shakespeare. Rhett gets cowboy boots and Alyssa says HE is HER Valentine, while the girls are John’s Valentine. (Gender stereotyping is a real thing with these people) The mouth breather is growing a beard and poses with each girl for the holiday. John took Alyssa out for Valentine’s to the same old restaurant and she shows off his amazing gift to her… an iced coffee. This woman’s tombstone needs to have a Starbucks logo on it with the words “She never did PERK up”… 5. Whitney Bates is unbothered by the Big 3 Ski Trip and shows off her entire family dressed for church while telling us that “slow Sundays with her little family are her favorite”… I guess 5 kids is “little” in fundie world. She has started filming while driving and talking… this time to get about 6 hairs trimmed, which she calls “getting her hair done”. This is all a ruse to drop an ad for Raising Cane’s chicken which is now a sponsor. She also shares links from Adidas, the boutique and shows off a promotional box from Kinder Chocolate. The card from the Kinder Company says they were happy to hear that her family loves them… does that mean someone reaches out to these companies for her? On Valentine’s Day Zach take Whitney to… you guessed it… Ruth’s Chris steakhouse. This is definitely their version of top tier. We also see a reel of Jadon (remember him?) giving a Valentine’s rose to the baby, Lily(remember her?)… Jadon receives nothing in return because… Valentine’s is only for FEMALES. Zach has one upped the Big 3 and has a Ruth’s Chris sponsorship. He films their entire meal and tags the company. Over in the Bates Kitchen things are truly going off the rails. This week’s sponsor is a cleaning product company and the first thing out of Zach’s mouth is to rave over the TOILET BOWL cleaner. He actually SHOWS THE TOILET being cleaned and FLUSHED…. On his COOKING CHANNEL. Let that sink in. The same man who once FARTED while cooking… this week, BURPS. Just gasses it up right there over the food on camera and rolls on… No edit needed…. Doesn’t even say excuse me. I don’t know what else to say about this cooking show except I continue to wonder if it is a parody and I am just missing the boat. I DO laugh a lot… so there’s that. Anyway, he is attempting to make a coffee cake and leaves out ingredients as usual, forgets to show some of the things he has added and wraps it all up by calling his crumbly topping CUNCHY. (Crunchy, maybe?) 6. Lydia Bates wore a purple sweater this week…. Well, the palest shade of lavender ever… and was shocked that people actually wanted the link. Lydia quickly gets back in to her all beige wardrobe to watch the Super Bowl with Trace, who seems less than enthused to be at home on the couch. No ski trip for this dad to be, and Travis borrowed all of his ski gear. Lydia has been alone a lot in her content lately, and she only has Ryker around to help her sell her silk pillowcases. She also films him playing alone in their yard. Things get really desperate about mid-week when Lydia has to resort to filming Trace making paper airplanes and throwing balls with the baby. These people need this second baby badly to drum up any interest at all. We find out that Lydia is alone because Trace has apparently gone back to work… we see him come home in a uniform with a gun on his hip and Lydia says Ryker is looking for his patrol car. This is a new development bc just last fall Trace told us his full time job was making content and he hated having to work with his dad on a tree job. I guess if they want a house bigger than a walk in closet, and a vehicle big enough for the family of 4 they are about to be… somebody has to have a steady paycheck. I don’t remember Trace graduating from the police academy, but considering it is Podunk Tennessee, it doesn’t take much to carry a gun. Lydia posts in memory of the baby she lost one year ago and shares a 23 week baby bump picture. Trace posted to his IG praising Lydia on Valentine’s Day and we see Ryker giving her flowers. Lydia shows off a morning routine in a reel that just about puts me to sleep…chores, nap for baby, she eats a bowl of oatmeal. This week’s vlog is all filmed at home. Trace gifts Lydia a tiny little table for their tiny little house, and then Lydia talks to the camera while in her pool noodle… obviously a subtle scream to Josie not to forget her. She says they are car shopping and that they want to move to a bigger home but that could take a while. They film a super romantic dinner with Ryker at their local Chili’s and it becomes very apparent why Trace is working again. Yawn 7. Erin spills the beans that Kelly Jo came to town for a super quick visit. It doesn’t look like she even spent the night, and probably just came to pick up JebJud to head to the Utah ski trip. She films Kelly Jo at the house with all of the kids, and Erin posts a picture of herself with her mom, Alyssa and John. She tags Jackson and Emy, but we don’t see them. If Erin didn’t tell it, no one would have known because Alyssa certainly didn’t feature the visit at all. Later in the week, Erin shares a video from a pastor preaching about Christians who worship idols…. Things like stars, sports, businesses and their homes are all idols that true Christians should not worship. It felt really pointed and just happened to be posted while the Big 3 were on a high dollar ski trip that included a luxe NBA game. Meanwhile, we are on week 2 of no new YouTube content from Erin… if Chad would be a little less proud, she could probably grow a following. Speaking of Chad… Erin shows up on Valentine’s Day to rave over her man… says he is hardworking and more than she ever imagined. I think she must not have had an imagination at all. Chad posts absolutely nothing for his doting wife. I guess he can get by calling it idolatry. It doesn’t seem to be idolatry when they are pushing their God cards or beef fat…. 8. Brandon Keilen gave Michael back her social media passwords and she posts a January recap of snow pictures, and she and Brandon together. The only interaction from the family is one lone “like” from Carlin. She films herself sewing blankets for her shop and someone asks why she isn’t on the ski trip… her answer is that they “just couldn’t make it this year”. She’s very good at the non-answer interaction to keep engagement up. The non-answers are seen later in the week when Keilen Corner returns to YouTube with a new question and answer vlog. We learn that Michael is keeping an adoption journal, chronicling what she calls the “ups and downs”… she says they will have much more to share later with everyone… but then says they plan to go to Alaska in August. That tells you they must not have any news imminent. Michael gets to announce the I Love You Day theme, which is in March this year. It’s the 1950’s so she has to get to work on poodle skirts and Grease themed outfits for all of her ungrateful siblings. They plan to start featuring her recipes and cooking on the channel, though she says she is not professional as Zach. I would point Michael to her brother’s Toilet Bowl, Gas filled videos and tell her unless she plans to film IN the actual bathroom… the bar is not very high. Brandon’s big marriage advice is not to have a TV for the first year of marriage, and he tells everyone that they will continue to exploit their nieces and nephews, just not through art projects. Michael posts to IG on Valentine’s Day showing the two of them at the airport heading out on a trip… anywhere except the content house in Utah, I am sure. 9. Tiffany and Lawson made their way across the US to California for her birthday. Along the way she shared several cringy reels, including the latest featuring her once again talking about how she can’t believe she is married with a baby. It sure takes her a long time to process. Trauma can be that way. Lawson takes pictures with Tiffy in front of orange trees and poor baby Will is being bounced around like a basketball while Lawson tries to force him to smile. Tiffy shares that Will can now sit up alone…great news and the first step to him getting the heck away from his weird dad. It’s Tiffany’s 26th birthday and Carlin, Michael and Katie all comment. Tiffany is in California and has no plans to head to Utah. Kelly Jo posts just before midnight for Tiffany’s birthday and talks all about how she never complains and how amazing her old movie characters are. Nathan’s little girl McKenna facetimes Tiffy to sing happy birthday, and that’s the only niece or nephew we see. McKenna is standing up in a moving vehicle, by the way, so Nate is definitely living Duggar style. Baby Will had to clock in to work this week to sell teething drops now that he has 2 teeth. Tiffy says it’s not an ad, but links it through her Like To Know Account, so she is for sure getting paid. Days after her birthday, Lawson posts to his grid saying it is Tiffany’s birthday week… and asking if others agree with the theory of a birthday week. Obviously they argued over this. While Lawson jets off to the ski vacation with the Big 3, Tiffy stays in California with lunch with her grandma. Lawson posts himself at the Utah Jazz game with the other guys and says he is representing Tennessee by wearing all UT gear. I don’t think he understands that it is an NBA game… not college. We see in Travis’ vlog that Lawson gets lost and shows back up saying he was hanging with LeBron James… he calls him his “homeboy” and the world cringes. Tiffany is in California posting fangirl reels of Lawson all week, while Lawson stays in Utah and reposts her fangirl reels. These 2 appear happiest apart. It’s been almost a month since they dropped a new vlog on YouTube so the mystery of their income lives on. 10. Bits and Bytes… Kelly Jo’s visit to Alyssa’s was the first time she had been there since December of 2023 and KJ says it made her whole day to get to see the Webster girls…Kelly Jo promotes the Stew Crew Disney Cruise vlog and says it made her cry when Zade met Mickey. It obviously doesn’t make her cry that her grandchildren are exploited to millions of weirdos daily…Bates Sisters Boutique shows an old modeling shot of Carlin to sell a clearance item and shoppers are beginning to ask where she is and if she is still running the place… The boutique debuts new Spring items, including an $85 dress. They immediately mark down new items by $10 each…Tiffany dressed baby Will up in an old man outfit for Valentine’s day and somewhere Alyssa smiled…Kelly Jo spilled the beans saying that the 3 couples picked the location and the rental house for this year’s ski trip and footed the bill for the whole thing. She keeps calling it the Annual Family Ski Trip, but none of the other married couples went…maybe they didn’t want to be part of the content mill, or maybe they can’t afford the high dollar accommodations the Big 3 are enjoying these days. Whatever the reason may be, the days of “everyone together” seem to be long gone. The Super Bowl is over… Valentine’s Day is gone… Come on SPRING TIME!! Have a great week friends! submitted by /u/dixcgirl10 to r/BringingUpBates [link] [comments]

Alaska cruise tips/advice
Hello! I am going on my first Alaskan cruise the first week of June! I was wondering if anyone has an tips or advice for: weather! What kind of outfits did you wear? On ship? Did people dress up for dinner? Excursions? How lightly to pack? must does! Any specific shops, like coffee/cafe and less touristy shops at any specific ports? something forgot to pack, but needed! I know bug spray is a must, but anything else that may be useful! anything that may be helpful! On board? Thank you! My ports of call are: stikine icecap, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan! submitted by /u/Hads365 to r/dcl [link] [comments]

Spending about a week in Japan and a week in Alaska, I need ideas of cute but functional outfits that I can pack!
I’m getting married on a cruise that goes from Japan to Alaska next month. I hope to fit everything one big suitcase and one carry on. I need some help coming up with cute outfits that are packable! I think I’ll need to bring 3 or 4 pairs of shoes, plus my hair straightener and hair products so I know those items will take up some space. So what are some good ideas that I can kinda scrunch down in the suitcase. Also any bridal type outfit ideas are also welcome!!! submitted by /u/NozyTurtle to r/PlusSizeFashion [link] [comments]

What things do are must brings and what can we leave home for 12 day cruise from Japan to Alaska
My fiancé and I are taking our first cruise next month! It’s a 12 day cruise from Japan to Alaska aboard the NCL Jewel. We are super pumped for our trip but we are struggling with what all to pack and how to not over pack. What kinda outfits are must haves and what can we leave at home? Is it best to buy skincare type items on the ship or bring your own? Thank you for any advise!!! submitted by /u/NozyTurtle to r/NCL [link] [comments]

My (27F) Family Canceled our holiday plans saying they wanted to save money. Last week they went on a last minute, week long trip to Hawaii without me.
Sorry, reposting because I forgot to include genders so my old post got removed. My (27F) family canceled our Christmas plans because they wanted to save money. Last week they just went on a last minute week long trip to Hawaii without me. I have always been really close with my family, maybe that is why this hurts so much. My parents (M & F late 50s) and brother (25M) all live in the US so they have limited vacation time but make enough money to go on a few nice trips a year. I live in Europe and recently went back to school so I have plenty of weeks of vacation but not a whole lot of disposable income at the moment. My family (at least my parents) and I try to meet up somewhere once a year since I moved away 7 years ago. This year we were talking about them coming to my country for Christmas since they were too busy moving to go anywhere with me during the summer. I liked this idea too since we hadn't had the chance to spend Christmas as a family in years because they rarely have more than a few days off during the holidays. I was exited to show them the Christmas markets and parades around my town because it is one of my favorite times of year and I had learned a few recipes I wanted to make for them too. Well, I tried helping them plan it for months but they always came up with some sort of excuse such as plane tickets still being too expensive, or "your brother doesn't really like cold weather." I tried to suggest elsewhere but everywhere that wasn't beach weather was considered too cold for my brother (someone who goes to Alaska frequently) They said they would probably skip coming for Christmas and just save up money for the summer so we could do something fun together as a family. I was fine with this, a bit disappointed that I couldn't see them this year but I understood their reasoning at the time and I brushed it off and moved on. That is until Thanksgiving week. My brother asked for the week off and the three of them decided to go for a last minute, week long trip to Hawaii together. They sent me pictures of them in matching outfits and on the beach etc. They called me for a few minutes on Thanksgiving day but then cut me off because my mom and brother wanted to go to the beach. They didn't talk to me much the whole week, just sent me pictures and videos of them having fun and that's about it. They didn't even bother inviting me at all which would have been nice at least. My mom waited until they got home and called me to tell me about how much fun they all had and said she wished I could have been there. I made a passing remark saying that it would have been nice if we could have done something as a family this year. She said that they planned it last minute and that she "wasn't doing this today" before hanging up on me. I texted her explaining how hurt I was and she made it seem like she was looking for flights to my country again but then sent a frowny face saying that they got even more expensive. I told her that it wouldn't have been so bad if she booked them a few months in advanced like I had suggested. She then said that it was too hard to plan that far in advanced. I brought up the 3 cruises they had planned 6 months in advanced for that year and she said that those were different since they were going with their friends. I have the impression they simply just don't want to see me because when they want something, they usually make it happen. I don't even care if we do anything extravagant, I just wanted to see them. At this point I just removed my whole family from my snapchat and and stopped talking to my mom because it was just making me upset and I need to try to focus on my upcoming exams. I feel like I'm not even a part of the family anymore. I found out a few months ago that they made a family group chat but didn't include me so when my mom slipped up and told me about it, they made another one with me in it that they barely use so I left that too. I love my family but this is starting to really break my heart. I feel like I'm being pushed out and when I talk to them about it they just make excuses or tell me I'm overreacting. I can't seem to properly communicate to them how much they hurt me because I really wanted to see them this year. I'm trying to plan a trip to go to the US to visit them during my spring break but I feel like they don't really want to see me because when I brought it up my mom just replied with the dates of their next cruise which was apparently around the same time. I have no idea what to do anymore. I feel like my relationship with them just keeps getting worse and worse but they don't seem to care. I feel broken. I miss them. They always send me chachkies and souvenirs from their trips to show that they "think of me". But I want to see them I don't want objects... Luckily, I have new plans for the holidays so I won't be all alone or anything but i'm still hurting. I don't really even expect to hear from them until Christmas honestly. Any advice is welcome. TL;DR : Family said they couldn't see me this year because they needed to save money after their move. Last week they went on a last minute week long trip to Hawaii without me. How can I proceed gracefully? submitted by /u/Delicious-Canary7300 to r/relationships [link] [comments]

Alaska cruise in September
I've read that layers are best plan but I'm wondering what materials are best and a plan for days going about the ship only. On PORT days I plan to have - thermal bottom base with hiking pants (fleece lined/water whisking shell) - thermal top base with another top (based on weather short or long sleeve) - 3in1 jacket (puffer + rain jacket combo) - rain boots or snow hiking shoes. Basically I think I have excursion outfits down (thank you our quick skiing trip years ago) Now what about days just chilling around the ship? I want more comfortable "lazy" clothes but i dont know if my sweats/jogger pants are a good idea as they're 80% cotton. Maybe my yoga pants will be fine? They're fleece lined and spandex material. I've read that it rains a lot in Sept and while I don't mind being cold I'd hate to be WET and cold. That sounds awful! So cotton seems like a bad plan? But i dont know if that's the case while on the ship. I wasn't sure if the "cotton no no" readings only applied to port/on land days My initial plan on SEA days - fitted joggers + oversized wool sweaters - baggy sweats + fitted long sleeves fleeces - fleeced lined yoga pants as backups - warm wool lined slip on shoes Basic. Easy. Comfy. Also gives me room for over stuffing at the buffet (hah)! But i dont know if cotton is a good idea and I can't really find wool comfy pants. Does anyone have suggestions on other good materials, where to buy proper said material of comfy pants, or if cotton sweats/joggers are okay for around the ship? Super excited for this cruise!!! I love cold weather submitted by /u/vernacat to r/travel [link] [comments]

Alaska cruise elegant night - dark jeans okay for men?
Hi I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times, I can't find the answer I'm looking for. I'm looking for real talk real experience from anyone who has been on an Alaska cruise! I heard they are more casual than other destinations. On the Carnival website the info for dress code for elegant nights is a bit vague. A google search brought me to the .de (German) website and it says for elegant night "no shorts, no jeans". But on the .com page just says: "If you want to attend a “cruise elegant” evening, bring a fancier, more formal outfit. Men can wear suits or dress slacks with a sport coat and dress shirt. For women, cocktail dresses, pantsuits or elegant skirts and blouses are appropriate. Some guests like to go all out with a tuxedo or ball gown." Would dark jeans (clean, ironed, no holes) with a button up shirt and nice boots be something you've see men wearing in MDR on elegant nights in Alaska? submitted by /u/3littlepiglets to r/CarnivalCruiseFans [link] [comments]

Year 4 FIRE Update - Say Yes to (Almost) Anything
With 2 years of life "on hold" during the pandemic, I decided to embrace a personal mantra of “Say Yes to (Almost) Anything” in 2022. I would let myself try new things regardless of cost or hesitation. I discovered a lot of new things that I love and also found a few I'll never do again. Overall, still loving the freedom and flexibility of FIRE life and trying to enjoy as much of it as possible. TLDR below, but encourage you to also read the body of the post for more details! TL;DR: 39/M SINK renting in the SF Bay Area, formerly in IT Consulting and FIRE'd in January 2019 with $1.1M Net worth decreased in 2022 from $1.90M to $1.50M as of January 1st Spent $39,000 out of $33,600 budget Did lots of “revenge travel”, spending 243 nights in 2022 away from home For further background, check out my original post and 3 updates: FIRE Post, Year 1 Update, Year 2 Update, Year 3 Update I’ve organized the rest of the post into the following sections: Say Yes to (Almost) Anything 2022 Highlights FIRE’d Life Finances 2023 Plans Say Yes to (Almost) Anything After two years of pandemic, I decided to adopt a mantra of “Say Yes to (Almost) Anything” (SYT(A)A). The (Almost) part is there to rule out things that are illegal and/or dangerous. I was partiailly inspired by u/MrLlamaSC with this post and decided the following: Instead of finding reasons to say no, I would look for reasons to say yes I did a LOT of new things in 2022, but the examples below focus on experiences I might have found excuses to say no to in the past. Burning Man This had been on my bucket list but had been hesitating to go because I didn’t think it would be a good experience for someone who doesn’t drink, much less do any drugs. I joined a camp and they had limited tickets. Initially I didn't get a ticket, but thanks to flexiblity being FIRE, I was able to secure a ticket just 3 weeks before the event . It isn’t hyperbole to say that it was one of the most impactful/meaningful experiences of my life and can’t wait to go back in 2023. The art, the community, and overall atmosphere is intoxicating and such a breath of fresh air compared to the "default world". Don't get me wrong, I don't think that this can be replicated outside of BM, and BM is far from a perfect experience with the environmental hazards and people who (IMHO) aren't embracing the 10 Burning Man Principles. But the event is so big that you can avoid those that you don't want to be around. I could probably write a novel on all of my Burning Man experiences but this isn't the time/place :-). If you have any specific questions about BM, lemme know and I’ll gladly answer them. Gay Ski Week I went snowboarding two times when I was in HS/College but had a miserable time, constantly falling and feeling like I made no progress. I thought that skiing would be the same and so I never picked it up. An acquaintance wanted to take a road trip and check out Gay Ski Week, so I said yes! This was double SYT(A)A event because I usually don't do "gay party" type of events. I was absolutely wrong about skiing. It was so much more fun than snowboarding, I picked it up quickly, and started doing some blue routes on the second day. I definitely would ski again, but would NOT do it in the context of gay ski week (there way too many vapid WeHo twinks, and the party scene is not my cup of tea). Also I would try mid-week to avoid crowds and cut down costs. As part of SYT(A)A, I decided to go take a 3 week trip with someone who I had only known for a few days (in person). Lesson learned, is that for travel, I need to make sure that I am more compatible with. After the first three days, I offered to pay to fly him home and cancel the rest of the trip because of how terribly it had started. We decided to continue and there were good parts, but there were some pretty awful parts of the trip and during the ski portion, I avoided him completely. Cruise to Alaska My mom had been asking me to go on a cruise with her for at least 15 years and I've been extremely hesitant. I hate the idea of a “catered” experience and also loathe the super restrictive schedules and super-touristy nature of cruise ships. But given this year's Mantra of SYT(A)A, the absolute worst case is that I get to spend 10 days with my mom. Turns out I didn't need to go on the cruise to know it wasn't for me. I’m glad to spend the time with my mom, but I don’t think I’ll ever take a cruise ever again in my life. Bedroom Adventures I won't go into specific details here, but I've been exploring a lot of new things in the bedroom (kinks, fetishes, people with different gender identities/sexual orientations). I've had a range of experiences from “so-so” to “amazing” and has overall been a very positive experience. I feel like without the SYT(A)A mentality, I would never have discovered things that I now really enjoy. As a side benefit, I am in high demand for a particular niche that I also happen to enjoy a lot, which is a major plus for my sex life :-) Given all of the positive experiences that went well, I want to keep the SYT(A)A mantra going forward and continue find reasons to say yes. What are some things you want to find say yes to, but haven't quite made the leap? 2022 Highlights Spelunked to the end of Catacombs Cave (and back :-D ) at Lava Bed National Monument. There were some belly crawls with less than one foot tall ceilings with about 1-2" of wiggle room between your back and the ceiling. In some parts, I had to turn my head/helmet sideways to squeeze through 5 day trek in Pati Valley in Chapada Diamantina Climbed Via Dos Italianos (700ft) and K2 on Corcovado (400 ft) in Rio De Janeiro. I only had to hang once on the first pitch of Via Dos Italianos Led my first 5.10a, also led a 5.10b/c (both sport, and the 10b/c were very soft IMHO) and led my first multi-pitch route Did my first packraft trip (3 days). Unfortunately I forgot my hiking shoes, so ended up doing the trip in crocs… Ate at D.O.M. in Sao Paulo and Canvas in Bangkok Ate at countless amazing places in Thailand and Taiwan Visited the Channeled Scablands and learned about all the amazing geology/history of it Watched Everything Everywhere All At Once multiple times 🥯👀 Saw Six the Musical in NYC Read tons of great sci-fi - The Expanse 7-9, Three Body Problem Trilogy, and Memory of an Empire 1 and 2 Played 49 unique board games, 23 which were new to me, over 195 plays (Spirit Island, The Crew: Deep Sea Mission, and So Clover making up 57,29, and 22 plays respectively) Additionally, I have a small photo album of some of my favorite pictures I took this year: FIRE’d Life Revenge Travel Being cooped up so much for the past two years, I was very much itching to get some of that pent up travel energy out of my system and ended up doing a lot of travel! I spent 243 days away from home to be exact. All of this was with different friends/family with the exception of spending ~3 weeks solo in Brazil. Here’s the travel that I did last year: 3 week road trip to Vegas, Red Rocks, Death Valley, and Mammoth 6 week trip to Brazil 2 week road trip from SF to Seattle 4 day road trip around the Olympic Peninsula 10 days Alaska cruise and Denali Land Tour 9 days Visting friends in AK and Vancouver 10 day NYC and DC trip 30 days of outdoor climbing in various places 7 day road trip around Utah national parks 5 day board game convention 3 weeks in Thailand and Taiwan I tracked how many days I spent away from home, and categorized them by the type of accommodation that I had: Hotel/AirBnb 71 Family 69 Camp/Hipcamp 56 Friends 39 Vehicle (bus/plane) 6 Volunteer 2 Family/Friends I stayed at for free (mostly my sister in Brazil and my mom in Washington) and I treated people out to dinner and other things for letting me stay with them. Camping was a mix of state/federal/BLM/Hipcamp. Most of these are like $15-$25/campsite split usually among 2 or more people. Lastly the remainder is for Hotels/AirBnB’s. I used Marriott points for the expensive destinations like NYC and DC, but most of my nights were in cheaper locations like pousadas in Brazil, and inexpensive hotels in Thailand and Taiwan. Volunteering - Summer Camp Blues So I did not get accepted to join one summer camp despite previously getting the “MVP award” and praise from a variety of people. Initially I was devastated and was thinking about what I could do differently to get back. When I asked for feedback from one of the directors on how to be a better candidate for the next year, they gave me feedback that is factually incorrect. When I ran this by my co-counselor from the previous year to get a second opinion, they agreed and thought it was unfortunate that they were single-ing me out. The director citied "issues with my cabin" as a main reason for not being allowed back, but my co-counselor (in the same cabin) noted that they never received any feedback and were also invited back to volunteer. The root cause of this is that I provided them direct, but professional feedback on things that I think they should change. However, it is now apparent that it was not received well and they have twisted the series of events to fit their own narrative. After talking to others, it seems like the people in this organization are just looking for “Yes-people" and can’t take any form of constructive feedback. I haven’t been this disappointed in a long time, and because my other summer camp still not running in-person camp, it meant that I now had a big 2 month gap in my summer, and a hole in my heart that I needed to fill. I still haven't quite found a way to find a way to replace this, but what I do know, is that I need to go somewhere where my talents and skills are appreciated and I'm not gas-lit to think that I did something wrong. Finances Net Worth: Decreased from $1.90M to $1.50M (as of January 1st 2023) Asset Allocation of Net Worth 2022 Income Dividends from Taxable Accounts: $16.7K Long Term Capital Gains: -$4.9K. I tax lost harvested a few times (VTSAX to VFIAX) and withdrew some for additional cash on hand. Rollover 401K/IRA to Roth IRA conversion: $16K. I converted an extra $3K above the standard deduction, using $3K of capital losses, and will carry over $2K in losses for next year. Total AGI of: $29.7K Projected 2022 Taxes Federal: $100 State: $250 Expenses Overall, costs were $39K which is 16% above my planned expenses of $33,600 and represents a 2.6% withdrawal rate at my current NW. I hadn't changed my budget of $33,600 since I FIRE'ed in 2019 because I spent so little during pandemic. I have now increased my budget to $38K for 2023, which actually aligns with inflation adjustments. Table of planned and actual expenses Notable high ticket items: Gay Ski Week: $1000 (Doesn't include the AirBnB, just entry to the non-VIP events, lift tickets, and one day of ski lessons) Burning Man Outfits: $800. I plan to reuse outfits and hope to make some of my own in the future. You can certainly go without spending this much money, but I thought YOLO and just got a few pieces of clothing that I absolutely LOVED. Burning Man Costs: ~$1000 total - $500 for the ticket and ~$400-$500 for 8 days of camp costs (includes, food, water, transportation, and common camp supplies). Taiwan/Thailand Trip - Don't have an exact amount since we did lots of cash and points, but it was a decent portion of my travel budget :-) Health Insurance People always have questions and confusion about ACA and health insurance so I'll put this info out there again. I aim for hitting a AGI of $30K and that will get me a Silver 73 HMO with CSR ($30 drug deductible, $4750 non-drug deductible, and $7250 max OOP). In 2022 I paid $77/month and will be paying $28/month in 2023 because inflation significantly increased the FPL, but my AGI remained the same. 2023 Plans Learn to Trad and Aid climb with a longer term goal in 2024 is to swap leads on the South Face of Washington Column or something of similar scale/difficulty Get back into biking and do one bike touring trip. More road, camping, backpacking, and climbing trips Take an Amtrak train over a long distance - Empire Builder to Glacier, or California Zephyr Start (and finish?) Frosthaven campaign Attend the World Boardgaming Championship - I don’t expect to win any championship or even get any laurels, but just want to have some quality gameplay of some classic games Thanks to everyone who read through this and feel free to ask any questions in a comment and I'l try to answer as many as I can! :-) submitted by /u/hungn3 to r/financialindependence [link] [comments]
