Hermes Bouncing Sneakers — Koala Batch Review
Yo, This is my quick review of the Hermes Bouncing sneakers I recently picked up through Koala. I previously had this same model from AP, but I wanted to grab a new colorway. I saw that Koala had their own new batch for cheaper than AP at 680¥, so I reached out and asked about the quality. Just to clarify, Koala sells different batches and factory versions, but this specific pair is from his own factory. He told me they’re made with the same materials as AP, just produced in his own factory, and for a cheaper price. Shipping took around two weeks to arrive. In hand, they feel literally the same quality as my AP pair. The leather feels good, the sole feels solid, and overall the build looks very clean. I don’t see any obvious flaws myself, everything looks crisp to me. W2C: Link / Yupoo: Link Let me know if you guys spot anything I missed, but in my eyes these are flawless. submitted by /u/repshaul999 to r/DesignReps [link] [comments]

[Review] LJR Jordan 1 Union From CocoSneakers Via SpanBuy (+ 50% Shipping Coupon)
Disclosure: This review is for informational purposes only. I am not an authentication expert. All opinions are based on my personal experience with the item shown. Seller: CocoSneakers (+852 5442 1980) Price: 520 RMB Batch: LJR Link: https://weidian.com/item.html?itemID=7690441552&spider_token=a68b Agent Used: SpanBuy If you're looking for a new agent to use, definitely check out SpanBuy using the link below to get a 🚨 1200 RMB shipping coupon, 50% off shipping coupon, and 20% off shopping coupon! 🚨 Speed and customer service are simply the best! 50% Shipping Discount: http://spanbuy.com/index/user/register/invite/MTIwNT|3.html First Impressions Right out of the box, the color blocking stands out immediately. The black and white leather keeps the pair wearable with almost anything, while the royal blue accents give it that extra pop without becoming too loud. The exposed Union stitching around the collar gives the shoe a more handcrafted feel and separates it from a standard AJ1 instantly. Materials The leather quality on this pair feels really solid overall. Panels have a nice smooth texture with decent structure, and the toe box doesn’t feel overly flimsy. The padded collar area is comfortable and the stitching details were surprisingly clean throughout the pair. One of my favorite details is the subtle Fragment lightning logo near the heel. It’s small, but if you know the collab history, it adds a lot to the shoe. Comfort & Fit Fits pretty true to size for me. Standard Jordan 1 comfort, so nothing revolutionary, but definitely wearable all day. I threw them on with tapered tech pants and they sit perfectly on foot. Quality Check No major glue stains or sloppy stitching on my pair. Swooshes looked even, shape was solid, and the collar stitching lined up well. Flaws: LJR did a great job on this pair, no real complaints. While the leather used matches retail from what I can see, I wish they used the tumbled leather that they do on other pairs, but that’s just a personal thought. Final Thoughts This collab feels like a perfect balance between classic and modern design. It keeps the iconic Jordan 1 silhouette intact while adding enough unique details to make it stand out in a crowded sneaker lineup. submitted by /u/SolelyReps to r/RepsneakersDogs [link] [comments]

[Review] LJR Jordan 1 Travis Scott “Shy Pink” From CocoSneakers Via SpanBuy
Disclosure: This review is for informational purposes only. I am not an authentication expert. All opinions are based on my personal experience with the item shown. Seller: CocoSneakers (+852 5442 1980) Price: 520 RMB Link: https://weidian.com/item.html?itemID=7687516087&spider\_token=5758 Agent Used: SpanBuy If you're looking for a new agent to use definitely check out SpanBuy using the link below to save 20% on shipping! Speed and customer service are simply the best! 20% Shipping Discount: http://spanbuy.com/index/user/register/invite/MTIwNTI3.html First impressions: These hit way different than the usual Travis Scott colorways. The pink reverse Swoosh pops hard against the cream and white base. If you know me you know I love pink! Colorway & Design: This pair uses a mix of sail/cream leather with subtle pink accents throughout. The swoosh, outsole, and branding hits. That softer palette gives it a more wearable, everyday vibe while still standing out. Materials & Quality: Leather looks smooth with a slightly matte finish. Panels are structured well, especially around the toe box. Stitching looks consistent and clean. Because retail hasn’t officially released it’s hard to give a lot of comparison thoughts on this pair. Fit & Comfort: Standard Jordan 1 Low feel and fits rue to size for me. Comfort is decent, but like all Jordan 1s, these are more about looks than performance. Styling: These go crazy with darker pants like you’re wearing. The black pants + light pink/cream combo creates strong contrast, making the shoes the focal point. You could also run these with lighter fits for a softer, cohesive look. Flaws: Having a lot of LJR Jordan 1s I can tell you that these and the sail pinks are some of the highest quality sneakers LJR has made. In hand I don’t see many flaws, maybe one swoosh sitting slightly lower than the other, that’s about it. Since retail hasn’t released yet I won’t say too much because it’s hard to compare a sneaker to something that hasn’t been officially released yet. Overall: This is one of the cleaner and more versatile Travis Scott Jordan 1 Lows if you want something different from the usual brown-heavy colorways. Not as iconic as the mochas, but way more unique on foot. SolelyReps Approved ✅ submitted by /u/SolelyReps to r/RepsneakersDogs [link] [comments]

(Video Review) Jordan 1 Retro High Off-White Chicago (LJR) from CoCo Sneakers
As always, this is just for informational purposes. Just my personal opinion based on the pair I received. I’m not a professional authenticator, just someone who’s been around sneakers and reps for a while and pays attention to the little details 👀 W2C: CoCo Sneakers 📱 WhatsApp: +852 5442 1980 💰 Price: ¥520 + Shipping 🔗 Link: Yupoo 💬 Tell CoCo “SNKR” sent you for a discount First Impressions: Super loud but clean—the red, white, and black combo with exposed foam, deconstructed panels, and all the signature Off-White touches makes these instantly stand out. Definitely a statement pair. Fit: TTS for most. Slightly snug at first because of the padding, but they break in nicely. Wide footers might consider going half size up. Comfort: Feels like a typical Jordan 1—not super cushioned but very wearable. Once broken in, they’re comfortable enough for all-day wear. Materials: Mixed quality leather with that vintage-style exposed foam and stitched panels. Not super premium, but accurate to how retail pairs feel. The detailing is what really stands out. Pros: • Iconic collab design • Super unique and recognizable • Easy statement piece Cons: • Not the most comfortable • Creases easily • Loud design isn’t for everyone Verdict: One of the most iconic collabs ever. If you’re into the Off-White x Nike wave, this is a must-have. Not subtle at all, but that’s exactly the point. submitted by /u/SNKReview to r/RepsneakersDogs [link] [comments]

Kitchen Sync: Aloha! turns one year old on Steam this week. Thank you for 99% positive reviews and great community feedback!
Hi all, I'm the developer of the cozy cooking RPG Kitchen Sync: Aloha! This week marks KS:A!'s first year on Steam and I wanted to do a little celebration post and thank this community for its enthusiasm over the year. This was my indie studio's first game on Steam and the positivity and enthusiasm I saw from cozy gamers has made this past year amazing! You all give me the energy to keep making games 💕 If you haven't heard of Kitchen Sync: Aloha! before, hi! KS:A! is a cozy cooking RPG that combines kitchen management with RPG story telling and progression. Here's the Steam link! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2333930/Kitchen_Sync_Aloha/ Play as a chef returning to the Hawaiian island of Maikai to inherit their family's restaurant. Cook at venues across the island, make friends, build relationships, and earn the title of Five Star Restaurant. If you enjoy kitchen cooking games (Overcooked, Plate Up) and party focused RPGs (Fire Emblem, Persona), I think you'll enjoy this game! Some key features you might like: 🍳Cozy Kitchen Management🍳 Rather than cooking everything yourself, cook by directing your team of chefs to work together. You control the flow of time, so you don't need to stress out about constantly ticking timers (you can also opt to turn the timer off entirely). My goal was to keep things calm and strategic rather than hectic. You can also customize your recipes, chefs, and kitchen layouts. 💞Relationships for Everyone💞 The chefs on your team each have their own personalities and stories. By working and hanging out together, they'll get closer, unlocking special dialogue scenes, side quests, and abilities, as they become friends, or even romantic partners (as an FAQ, your character can date anyone regardless of choice of gender/pronouns and there are also non-player same gender pairings). ✨Wholesome, Food Anime-inspired story✨ Return to the Hawaiian Island of Maikai to restore your family's restaurant, meet new friends, and save the island, all with the power of delicious food. The story is told Visual Novel style through dialogue scenes. Enjoy island vibes and learn a bit about Hawaiian food and culture! 🎮Steam Deck Compatibility🎮 The entire game has been optimized for Steam Deck and is Steam Deck verified. I personally did my own playthrough using mine! submitted by /u/FineWeather to r/CozyGamers [link] [comments]

What (and I cannot stress this enough) the fuck is this?
I got 17 blisters just looking at them. They’re 100% PVC and apparently smell like bubblegum? (Not for long after all the sweat that’ll be accumulating in them). Who is actually buying these in Australia? Especially at that price submitted by /u/hasarubbersoul to r/AusFemaleFashion [link] [comments]

What movie do you love despite agreeing with every single criticism of it?
I’m looking for those specific films where you read the 1-star reviews and think, "Yeah, they’re right about everything," but you still love the movie because it provides something you can’t get anywhere else. My personal hill to die on is 2005’s Elizabethtown. The critics were absolutely right: the premise is absurd. Orlando Bloom plays a "superstar sneaker designer" (alright...) who creates a shoe called the "Spasmodica" (what??) that is so notoriously bad it literally destroys a Nike-level multinational corporation. It's laughable. On top of that, Bloom proves he can’t act his way out of a paper bag; he’s truly wooden as he heads to Kentucky for a funeral. The logic is thin, the lead is weak, and the plot is messy. And yet, I love it. It touches my heart in a way no other film does. Specifically, the scene where Kirsten Dunst tells him he "failed" over and over again hits a very specific chord for me. In spite of all the very valid reasons it's a "bad" movie, I need what it’s giving. What is that movie for you? The one where the story is broken and the acting is subpar, but you’ll defend your love for it anyway? The scene I referenced above submitted by /u/Decabet to r/movies [link] [comments]

Details Surrounding Gavin McKenna's Arrest Released
New Information: According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained from the office of Magisterial District Judge Casey McClain, officers were dispatched to Mount Nittany Medical Center on January 31 to speak with a patient being treated for injuries from the assault. Hospital staff informed police that the victim had been punched in the face and suffered fractures on both sides of his jaw that required surgery. Upon arrival, officers observed significant swelling, dried blood, and a missing tooth, and said the victim was in substantial pain and had difficulty speaking. Two friends in the room told officers that McKenna punched the victim twice on the right side of his face after an exchange of words between their group and McKenna’s group. Witnesses said the assault occurred around 8:45 p.m. in front of the Pugh Street Parking Garage and recalled seeing blood on the sidewalk afterward. They also suspected McKenna and his group had been coming from Doggie’s Pub following a hockey event after Penn State’s game at Beaver Stadium. Police reviewed State College Borough street camera footage that they say shows McKenna throwing two punches at the victim, causing him to stumble backward. Additional video reportedly captured McKenna leaving Doggie’s Pub shortly before the incident and walking eastbound on East Beaver Avenue before turning south on South Garner Street. In the footage, McKenna was observed wearing a white backwards hat, a puffer jacket, jeans, and white sneakers. Officers also photographed blood at the scene. The victim underwent surgery on February 2 to repair the jaw fractures and his jaw will be wired shut for approximately two weeks unless further medical intervention is required. The investigation remains ongoing. submitted by /u/catsgr8rthanspoonies to r/hockey [link] [comments]

(In-hand review) AP Zegna triple stitch secondskin & Hermes Bouncing sneakers
Hey guys! Wanted the review my recent pickup's Received the Zegna triple stitch today! The Hermes bouncing i received a week ago! i ordered them separately. I already wore the Hermes one time to lets talk about the shoes! Lets start with the Zegna; Guys this my first Zegna sneaker, saw these in the store and i was hooked! The leather on these is very soft! think these are made of thin cowskin and wow they look so clean, and very close to retail! I went half a size down on these and they fit perfect! The only difference with retail has to be the material! I feel like retail was calfskin. The shoes came in a outerbox, 2 dustbags etc, the whole package! The Hermes looks even better in my opinion! i think the Hermes is very close to retail like the Zegna! I had a leather Hermes bouncing sneaker in retail, and the only difference is the weight but maybe because my retail was leather while this one is more suede. The suede quality on this pair is amazing! the shape of the shoe is perfect too! AP nailed it! Also these came with outerbox, dustbags etc. I ordered both sneakers from Lila, first i ordered the Hermes and later i ordered the Zegna as well, great experience! both took around 11 days the whole process from ordering to receiving te shoes. To prevent fading, it is recommended to wash your green Hawaiian shirt inside out in cold water using a mild detergent.Avoid using harsh chemicals or bleach, as these can damage the fabric and cause the colors to fade. Hang the shirt to dry in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure to the sun can also cause fading. if ironing is necessary, use a low heat setting and iron on the reverse side of the fabric. Following these care instructions will help maintain the vibrancy of your shirt and extend its lifespan. Are green Hawaiian shirts appropriate for formal occasions? While green Hawaiian shirts are generally considered casual attire, they can be appropriate for certain formal occasions depending on the dress code and the specific shirt. Measure your chest, shoulders, and waist using a measuring tape, and compare these measurements to the size chart to determine the best fit. Birthday Trip Report: 2/17-2/25 LONG
Rides Restaurants/food Priority of this trip was relax, new food and new experiences or rides we hadn't tried. Sat, Feb 2/17: Port Orleans- French Quarter DH had work until 2p so we had a 5pm flight out with United. Delayed several hours so the plan for Disney Springs was shot. That's okay! The check in was easy peasy, got my birthday button and on our way. I requested a room close to the buses so we were in building 6. Very close! Sun, Feb 2/18: EPCOT and Disney Springs We made it to our 10am reservation at Garden Grill. We loved it! We met all the characters (Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale). The food was pretty good too especially the monkey bread. They brought me out a birthday mousse with candle. I am unsure if I would dine here again for breakfast cause I'm interested in lunch/dinner. The rotating platform was a nice touch. We specifically did EPCOT for the next two days because it was the end of the Festival of the Arts. We got the ILL for Cosmic Rewind because we love that ride. We didn't really focus on rides too much and just the booths. We broke it down to Food this day mostly. Booths: The Painted Panda (China)- sesame red bean paste balls, bubble tea L'Arte di Marginare (Italy)- mozzarella fritta. Wasn't worth the price for one piece of cheese but the sauces were great! Tangerine Cafe (Morocco)- a favorite of ours. We got the pomegranate cake, DH got the chicken kebab, chai tea mimosa and the bread service Vibrante and Vivido- passionfruit daquiri (too sweet) Gourmet Landscapes (Canada)- the mushroom risotto was so good, we got it twice. frozen scotch cocktail and verjus roasted beets POP Eats!- tomato soup and grilled cheese are always winners We walked through Moana: Journey of Water, Nemo: the seas. We managed to snag a Space220 Lounge reservation, just to grab a drink. We loved the drinks but man $40 for 2 is a lot. They also gave us a birthday cupcake. We went back to the room and slept a bit before heading out on the DS boat. We tried EET. I was really looking forward to the bread service but felt it was flat. I did love my paneer bowl and my DH his chicken tikka wrap. The Mango lassi was good too! We got back to the resort and finally tried the beignets. Ugh, so good! Mon, Feb 2/19: EPCOT We got there around 11a cause we were so tired. We snagged another ILL for Cosmic Rewind. We debated getting genie+ today but already saw at 7am, we couldn't get Remy or Frozen so we skipped buying it. This was a drinking day: La Cava del tequila: always, always a hit. Recommend it immensely. I got the Lily last trip but it's expensive! However, the avocado margarita is a nice choice. Somewhat refreshing too. The Deconstructed Dish: the keylime pie and strawberry mint julep were good but way too sweet for me. Figment inspiration: We got both the rainbow flights of cider and beer. The beer was straight booty and the cider was nice The Painted Panda (China)- we went back to try the Silk Road Lemonade. 10/10 would get again Pastoral Palate (Germany)- get the frozen rose if they have it next year. It was super delicious! Goshiki (Japan)- mochi and saki blueberry cocktail. I must say definitely in my top 5 drinks. L'Arte de la Cuisine (France)- the brie bread 10/10. My Dh would not stop talking about it. The frozen martini is a skip We were going to stay for Luminous but left early cause it was raining and we were so tired again. We ended getting baileys beignets. Oh nooooo lol Tues, Feb 2/20: Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Super early wakeup, got genie+ and and ILL for Avatar: Flight of Passage. We had a 8am reservation at Cinderella's Royal Table. My quiche was eh (tasted wayyyy overdone) but my DH had a good steak. The highlight was the mimosa flight. They brought me another birthday cupcake. The cast members really made this trip. Princesses- Cinderella, Aurora, Merida, Jasmine and Ariel. We tried our best with genie to get anything that didn't make us walk all over. Rides we rode- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Barnstormer, Railway around the park, under the sea, Tomorrowland speedway, carousel of progress, Enchanted tiki room, pirates, and haunted mansion. We had a 1pm at Tony's just for drinks and apps. Get the garlic bread! Snacks: spicy chicken waffle and nutella fruit waffle at Sleepy Hallow (amazing!) and pineapple upside down dole whip at Aloha Isle. We left to resort for rest. Headed to AK around 6pm. Totally worth it! There is something so special about AK at night, so quiet and beautiful. Rides- FOP, Navi, and Everest. Food: Flame Tree BBQ- got the impossible burnt ends, bbq pulled pork mac n cheese and they gave me a flamingo cupcake for my bday. We were gonna go back to magic kingdom but I didn't want too anymore so we headed back to the resort for more beignets. Oops! Wed, Feb 2/21: Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios After Hours We didn't rope drop like planned but did buy genie+ and the ILL for FOP. Rides- Kilimanjaro Safari's, Navi, Everest, and dinosaur. Food: Thirsty River bar- just get it Harambe market stand- grilled corn Kusafiri Bakery- impossible pita, coconut iced coffee. When I tell you I was in loveee but I wish they would bring back the empanadas. This place is so hidden but so worth it. Trilo-bites- buffalo chicken chips We left around 3? Back to the resort to rest before dinner at Sebastian's bistro. Totally worth the price and the food was excellent. We made LL for Toy Story Mania before after hours started. Got an Oga's rez for 8:55pm. I asked if they could do an extra shot in one of the drinks but they're all premade. Idk why I never thought of that. Something about that turned me off. Like these drinks are pushing the high end, close to $20 each and feel weak. I usually get two drinks every reservation but left after one. We got the Fuzzy Tauntaun and Bespin Fizz. Rides during after hours- Smuggler's Run, Tower of Terror, Rise of the Resistance, Micky and Minnie's Railway, and tried Slinky but it was down for half the hours. Overall, I am unsure if I would say it was valuable. My DH thinks we got a lot done but I personally don't feel like the price vs value was there for what was actually available. The Slinky thing really irked me more than I let on. Mostly cause the LL is always booked out for the day for genie+ or the wait had been pushing 2hours each day this week. I was ok with waiting in line for 30min but didn't even get that chance plus the fact it was down for 1.5hrs out of 3? Come on. Either way, I will stand by my opinion that the parks at night are top tier. Thurs, Feb 2/22: Magic Kingdom We got genie+ again. ILL for Tron. I definitely think the price is not worth it again but this is the 5th time trying to ride it so I just gave in. Rides- BTMRR, HM, Tom Sawyer Island Food: Casey's Corner- hot dogs during the calvacade Joffrey's- always Auntie Gravity's- salted caramel and vanilla twist We left to rest and then head to our dinner at California Grill. Woowhee this was fantastic. Husband got the pizza, steak and creme brulee for his meal and I got the goat cheese rivolo, pumpkin tortellini, and panna cotta with the wine pairing. We got this around 5pm and just in time to see sunset and the right by the window overlooking the park. We definitely would go here again but only on special occasions since it is pricey. They gave me a slice of birthday cake too! We caught the monorail to MK for Happily Ever After. Honestly, the best show they have. We rode after with genie+ - Pirates, Jungle Cruise, peter pan's flight, Haunted mansion, space mountain and lastly TRON. I loved TRON but man, people weren't kidding when the seats are small. I'm not tiny but do have bigger calves but the rest of me was fine but had to go to the lap seat. Slightly embarrassed. I felt MK at night after fireworks is peak. I wish Disney would keep the park open til midnight. The LL's were easy to book after 8pm. Fri, Feb 2/23: Hollywood Studios and EPCOT We booked genie+ again but got no value today. Didn't buy any ILL. We prioritized Slinky first (grabbed at 3pm :( so couldn't book again until 10am!! ). We did TOT, Toy storia Mania, Slinky. Headed back to resort to rest, go to Riverside pool since FQ is closed. We then headed to EPCOT late. Rides- Spaceship earth We then headed to Rose and Crown for drinks and fish and chips. We actually missed most of the show even though that's why we were there. Oh well, it was quiet and tasted good honestly. The best part of the day was the Scat's Cats Club. The jazz band is awesome and we got savory beignets. I was really loving the vibe of the place. Sat, Feb 2/24: Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Hoop dee Doo Revue We got the ILL for FOP again since it's both out favorite ride. We also went to Restaurantosaurus Lounge for drinks. So good! Then we left for HS. Food: Tune in Lounge- mozart and pbj cocktail Dockside Diner- margarita Woody's Lunchbox- Totchos for DH and grownups Lemonade. This place is a good staple. Rosie's All American Cafe- plant based lobster roll. I've been wanting to try this for awhile and did tell my friend I'd report back so it was delicious but I felt it could have had more meatiness too it by adding more to buffer it. I really enjoyed the sauce though. I think we did TOT and Frozen celebration. Do not skip Frozen. We then left to rest and get more beignets cause why the heck not. Hoop Dee Doo Revue (Review): Let me explain something, this show is the best out of park experience. It's got good comfort food, great comedy and fun energy. We even got put on spot a few times. My husband had never experienced it but I just knew he'd love it. When we got out, he kept saying he had the most fun. He started looking up AP upgrade prices. I am already AP but he loved this show so much he wanted to come back. Insane that turn around! I got plant based meat items only but it's all so delicious. The unlimited drinks, food and show. I'm smiling just thinking about it. We did the late show of 8:30pm but went to bed after. Good way to end out last night. Sun, Feb 2/25: EPCOT and Checkout We packed and checkout at 11a, got beignets and headed to EPCOT. We took the boat to Morocco since my DH needed another chicken kebab. We didn't do any rides since we were just chilling. Food: Without booths and worth it Japan- shaved ice with sake Regal Eagle (America)- bbq jackfruit burger and bbq chicken sandwich Creperie (France)- brie galette and butter/sugar crepe My DH decided to upgrade to the annual pass lol he caved. Took the skyliner to HS just because we didn't want to walk back to the front of the park lmao and took the buses from there back to the resort. We grabbed more one round of beignets for the flights. We have problems but I guess I'll about it into my powdered sugar bad ! Overall a great trip. Take away: Resort restaurants are where it's at. Hoop dee doo is the best thing I reallyyy loved the french quarter resort. The small and walkability even though it uses buses is so nice. I wish they had a nice restaurant but it's okay we got the jazz club. The beds however so uncomfortable but theming is great. EPCOT wore me out and needs more attractions. Period. I need to drink in Hollywood more. They have many lounges still on my list. Animal Kingdom never makes me mad, always gentle and has the best snacks. I truly hate the system of genie+, just why does it have to be complicated?? Why do people need to compete for a time slot at 7am?? Not one blister on this trip which is a first! I brought 2 pairs of sneakers and did long rest periods. submitted by /u/travellocked to r/WaltDisneyWorld [link] [comments]

[Review] I Spent $1700 on Leather Sneakers and Here’s What I Learned
Left to right: Crown Northampton, Thursday, Oliver Cabell, KOIO, Uniform Standard So my current 5-year old daily worn Common Projects Achilles are starting to look like a pair of Golden Goose and need replacing so I figured I’d test the market to see if they were still the king of minimal leather sneakers. I went out and got my hands on 6 leather sneakers across the price spectrum to figure out the best overall shoe and the best value for money. We’ll talk about the fit, the leather, the build quality and more of each of these before making a final verdict. Hopefully you guys enjoy this one just as much as the Joggers, T-Shirt, Hoodies, and Polo ones I did a while back. Note: I look at my purchases through a cost per wear lens. The fact that I’ve worn these 4-5 times a week for nearly five years and they still have some life in them, make these the cheaper per wear by a long shot than all the cheaper options I’ve tried and tossed out less than a year later. It’s an added bonus that they look much nicer throughout the way. I didn't include things like Nike or Adidas as I wanted shoes that would compete directly with Common Projects and would last as long as they did. For reference, I’m typically a 9.5 in most shoes and a 42 on the European scale Video: All the info you need is on this post but if you want to see more details and view them on feet and side by side, here's a 20 minute video going in depth. None of that of that in your face type stuff but some quality content that takes a minute to produce. The joggers, polo, and t-shirts ones are also in the library somewhere so feel free to check those out. Thursday Boots ($129): We’ll start with our cheapest and work our way up! These are called the Premier Low from Thursday Boots. They cost $129 and were ordered in a size 9.5 in the coffee color way. The color did differ slightly from the images online to the pair I received. It’s a tad lighter than expected and barely has that dark brown to light brown gradient that I really liked when I saw them on their website. Leather The leather on these felt the softest compared to the rest of the shoes featured today. The outer is made of a full grain American leather and the inner is lined with a super soft sheep skin. The insole is also made with vachetta which is that creamish colored natural leather you see on Louis Vuitton bags. It’s an added premium that I don’t expect at this price point but Thursday claims it helps with shock absorption and comfort. These are also the most plush out of all the shoes with a pretty thick foam between the outer and inner leathers in the tongue and the heel area. Sole The sole on these are ones that Thursday custom developed in house. It features two different types of rubber, a softer one on the side to help with flexibility and a stiffer one on the bottom to help with durability. It is board lasted which means the leather upper and the rubber sole are glued together pretty much stopping these from ever being resoled. Styling Getting the technical stuff out of the way, let’s talk about styling and wear. These’s aren’t my favorite looking sneakers and I think the laces have the a lot to do with that. The flat laces along with the shiny eyelets make these feel like some Converse Chuck Taylors made of bougie leather. The silhouette is the least minimal one here with heel sloping up heavily and the toe box being wide. The break in period isn’t the worst but they did squeak a good amount on the first few wears. The logo stamped inside is already coming off. My biggest issue is how the tongue buckles and lifts where the it meets the toe box. I’m not sure if this is because of how I have them laced or if it’s because that’s where the tongue padding ends but it leaves a prominent crease and lifted area when these are on feet causing them to look messy. On a side note note: I found a few cases noted in prior threads where the shoe’s differ from pair to pair. Thursday claimed this was because of different factory locations but variations this large might be a red flag for you. Conclusion All that being said, these are a solid pair for someone just getting into leather sneakers. Although the color options are more limited than some of the other brand, they offer enough to get your basics covered. If you’ve mostly worn converse, stan smiths, or air force 1s and want to venture into some premium options, this is a good way to get your feet wet without breaking the bank. You’re getting great leather, while sacrificing some styling and construction but that’s likely why the they’re able to come in at this price point. Uniform Standard (£140 or ~$175 with shipping and promo code): Next up we have Uniform Standard’s Series 1 coming in at 140 british pounds which is roughly $167 as of me posting this video. There are 10% off codes available to bring them down slightly. I got these in their classic triple white in a size 43 after they recommended me to size up from what I wear in Common Projects. They fit as I wanted them to. Uniform Standard is based out of East London with the shoes being made in Portugal with Italian leather. They’re a newer company started in 2018 and I couldn’t find too many reviews on them so I decided to give them a shot. Leather The leather was stiff coming out of the box but you can sense the quality. The outer is made from full grain, Italian calf leather thats sourced from environmentally friendly tanneries. The inner leather feels slightly more supple and features a non slip suede rear that’s much more textured than most. Sock lints sometime get caught up in fairly easily. Soles The sole is made of partially recycled rubber and is fairly tall at an inch and a half compared to the rest. On foot, it feels near identical to the rest of the shoes so not much to say here but it feels more durable than Thursdays. The leather lined foam insole provide provide cushioning on the heel and feature activated carbon coating to help with odors. Styling These are pretty minimal in their shape and feature some tasteful branding with the stitching detail on the rear and the debossed Uniform on the left foot and Standard on the right. The toe box is wider than the rest but they don’t look bulky by any means. They were the most comfortable out of the box and I’d recommend them the most for people with wider feet trying to find some minimal leather sneakers. I especially like the outer heel which is short and slopes inward to follow the natural shape of your foot giving these a clean look from rear and side. Conclusion There wasn’t much to say about these shoes in general which is kinda telling on how to sum these up. They’re a solid reliable pair, coming in at a decent price point, with no frills attached to them. They’re about as boring as it gets which is a compliment as that’s kinda the point with minimal leather sneakers. Oliver Cabell ($209 but their base price fluctuates depending on the 'sale' they're running): When you cross into the $200 mark you’re going to pretty much get the same features and build throughout. Oliver Cabell was out to directly compete with the CPs as we’ll see with all the similarities. These are the Oliver Cabell Low 1s in a Nude color way in a size 9 which ended up fitting like a EU 42. Their pricing annoys me as they run sales everyday and change the base price frequently depending on what percent they want to “give off” that particular day. The final price is pretty much always $209, which is still up from the 188 that they used to be. Nonetheless, they’re the cheapest made in Italy, with Italian leather and Italian soles showcased here. Leather The leather on these sneakers is amongst the best. There have been reports it’s even sourced from the same Italian tanneries that CP uses. The inner and upper is made from full grain, Italian calfskin leather and it’s dyed in this pinkish nude color. It’s been surprisingly more versatile than I expected. The leather is stiffer than most of the others making it slightly harder to break in but the wider cut helped with not making my feet hurt initially like some of the others did. Soles The soles are made by a brand called Margom which is industry best. They’re made in Italy and the best brands around the world use them. The durability and rubber quality are very high delaying signs of heel drag and flat spots compared to alternatives. The sole is shorter than the rest measuring in at less than an inch at it’s tallest point. Styling The minimal styling is really showcased on this sneaker compared to the prior ones and compete directly with the common projects. They are cut low and feature minimal paneling. There is some foam padding around the ankle and in the tongue but not as much as the Thursday or the Uniform Standards. The branding is minimal with a screen printed gold logo on the tongue and on the rear. It lacks the foil shine the CP's branding has. I like the angled touch on tongue and the overall paneling of the shoe. The toe box has a subtle taper to it, a slight nod to what CP is known for but no where near as aggressive. Build Quality The construction on these is where most of your money goes. The sole is stitched, glued, and nailed to the upper. A shank is present in the sole to prevent them for over flexing. The footbed is made of fiberboard which is supposed to to easy for your feet to conform to but mine have been struggling for some reason causing them to still feel hard. These are machine lasted unlike the hand lasted Common Projects and the Crown Northamptons we'll talk about in a bit. The insert features the same leather as the inner and a subtle spongy feel. In terms of construction and features, these are identical to the Common Projects. My pair had some inconsistencies with the stitching on the leather and on the midsole which is pretty disappointing at this price point. The soles also looked uneven with one sloping slightly downward (shown at the 8:30 mark in the video). Other reviews on Reddit have also pointed out some quality control issues with Oliver Cabell so be sure to inspect your pair well upon receiving them. Conclusion This is going to be your entry level Italian minimal sneaker. Although it’s over $200 it’s still a competitive price for everything you’re getting. KOIO ($295 but currently $236): KOIO’s Capris are up next coming in currently at $236 but normally at $295. They suggested sizing down unless unless I had a wide foot so I went with the 9s in this Limestone colorway. It’s a stunning cream/beige that I’ve really been loving. A great departure from the normal white and grey I normally wear. These are also fully made in Italy from the assembly to the leather and soles themselves. Leather KOIO uses a full grain cow leather for the inner and the outer. They feel very similar to the Common Project’s leather. They are not as stiff as the Oliver Cabells and feel more comfortable out of the box. Soles These feature the same Margom soles as the CPs and the OCs that we talked about. Apparently they recently switched to a proprietary sole that they claim is the same if not better than Margom. Might want to confirm this with their team prior to ordering. Construction The construction is also very similar to the CPs and OCs with the filler foam, heel nails, the compressed cardboard, steel shank, fiberboard insole all being the same. The insert differs being made by Ortholite and provides a nice bounce to your walk giving these a nice bounce. They're as comfy as leather sneakers can get. The counter is also different being made of a reinforced fabric that wont break or snap when bent. The sidewall is stitched to the leather without glue being used allowing you to resole these if need be. The raw leather edges are painted to give them a cleaner look and prevent staining from denim. Styling They do feature more paneling then the common projects which one could argue are less minimal, but I find them tastefully done with the stepped layers. The toes have an aggressive taper and are narrower than the OC’s but wider than the CPs. It’s a great shape and the silhoette is near identical to the CPs. The tongue has no padding at all which allows the natural leather to shine through which I really like. The ankle and heel has more padding than the CPs causing them to look ever so lightly bulkier but it’s honestly marginal. Conclusion While the OCs were identical in construction and build to the CPs, these are identical in construction, build, and styling. It’s genuinely hard to tell the difference unless you have a trained eye and they come in significantly cheaper. There is more branding with the KOIOs letter debossed into the heels’ leather, the outsole, and the tongue but it being tone on tone makes it subtle. Overall, I think this is a great pickup especially if you can catch them on sale at $236. You’re getting stellar construction, great looks, Italian made, a load of colors all for under $250. Crown Northhampton ($399 but other leathers can be had at $300ish or up to $1k): Down to our last two starting with the Crown Northampton Harlestone Hand Stitch Derby in Black Horween Buffalo Leather. These are 100% made in as the name suggests Northampton, England with many methods that are typically seen on hand welted dress shoes. These are at a completely different league compared to the rest of the ones here and might be one of the nicest pair of leather sneakers on the market in terms of quality and construction. Noting that, they’re still cheaper than CPs coming in at $400. The brand has been around for over a hundred years and they’re still making shoes exactly as they used to which is the best possible compliment I can give in a fast fashion day and age. Leather The buffalo Horween leather on these is phenomenal. It’s tanned in the US with a combination of vegetable and chrome tanning. The tanning process reduces the hide roughly 30% causing the fibers to be pulled tighter making the leather tougher and more durable than others while still being buttery smooth. They leave a natural finish on the leather causing each pair to look slightly different from another. There’s a natural pebbling and rippling across these that can’t be compared to regular cow leather. These are available in plenty of leather finishes and colors for you to choose from. Leathers like these are typically reserved for high end dress shoes retailing in the thousands so it’s nice seeing them make their way into a pair of sneakers. Soles Anchoring it down are soles hand made in France by Lactae Hevea. They’re made from a latex rubber that goes through a 12 day curing process that gives them unrivaled comfort with a cushiony feel while remaining durable. These feel like UltraBoosts compared to the rest of the lineup lol. Since these are made to order, you can actually choose your sole color. I opted for this off white one but they also have a gum and black colored one. I think a pure white would be a nice option to add as they’d go really well with the colors Crown Northampton offers. The lack of glue used to secure these allows them to be fully resoled in the future if need be. Construction The construction is where this thing really shines. There is no padding anywhere on the sneaker really allowing the leather to be the sole star. The footbed is cork-filled by hand which will compress and allow your feet to mould to the bed giving these a semi Birkenstock type feel after the mold. The heel counter is made from oak bark leather which is the best it gets and they use a full vegetable tanned leather for the inner lining. Brands normally skimp here bc you don’t need the best leather on the inside but I’m glad CNH took the extra step. Styling As the model suggests, the only sign of branding are three pairs of hand stitches on each shoe. Two in the front and one in the rear. The laces feel like they were taken off a pair of their nicest dress shoes. These are as minimal as they get with no unnecessary padding or logos. The dust bags were also super high quality and impressive enough to worth noting. They feature a straight shilouette with a slight taper once you hit the toe box. Conclusion They’re handmade so they take some time to come in but boy are they worth waiting for. These are by far the best and highest quality sneakers here and will only look better as more and more miles are put on them. Even though they’re priced at $400 stacking them against the rest of these doesnt seem fair. They seem to be in a category of their own with insanely high attention to detail and oozing quality throughout. If you want the best crafted shoes that’ll last decades so long as you resole them - look no further than these. It’s reassuring to know there are still brands out there who don’t want clout or hype and just want to produce the best possible item they can at a reasonable price point for what you’re getting. If CP made a shoe of this caliber, I have no doubt it would be priced in the four figures. Common Projects ($465 but can find on sale for sub $300 few times a year): We all know Common Projects and what they offer by now so I’ll keep it brief as it’s pretty much exactly like the KOIO and the OCs. The first vid on the channel was dedicated to them in it's entirety ( I cringe watching it but the info is still relevant lmao). General Thoughts The feature a compressed leather counter unlike CNH’s full oak bark leather. The margom sole is secured with stitches on the side so they’ll be able to be resoled if need be. The heel is hand lasted and features brass nails to give it extra durability. The common projects pionieered this entire minimal leather sneaker thing and have remained a cult favorite. I’ve been a fan for the longest time but as I said in my first video on this channel. At $425 they aren’t worth it especially with Crown Northampton providing the level of sneaker they do at $50 cheaper and KOIO matching common projects at sub $300. However, there is an element of design that needs to be taken into consideration. Verdict/TLDR*: So what am I going to be replacing my beat up Common Projects with? The thing I look for most in minimal leather sneakers are that narrow silhouette, tapered toe and minimal padding. In my opinion, it’s this combination that helps these shoes go so well with everything you throw at them. As similar as the KOIOs are, I still think the Common Projects look marginally better which is why I’ll be opting for fresh pair of those that I picked up on sale. Different scenarios warrant different picks for me. If I need a pair of minimal leather sneakers asap and I don’t have time to wait for Common Projects to go on sale, I’m going KOIO. If I want the best of the best, with attention to detail second to none, I’m going Crown Northampton. If I’m new to the minimal sneaker game (coming from Air Forces, Stan Smiths, or Converse/Vans) and want to get my feet wet, I’d start with the Uniform Standards as they’re quite a big jump up in quality than the Thursdays. The Oliver Cabells are a nice entry to the Italian sneakers and may be better for people with wider feet. In terms of aesthetic: I’m sticking with the Common Projects, followed closely by KOIO, then Crown Northampton, Oliver Cabell, Uniform Standard then Thursdays. In terms of quality: I’m going Crown Northamptons and tie the KOIO, Common Projects, and Uniform Standardsince they’re all built nearly the same way. I’ll follow this by Oliver Cabell due to the QC issues but if you find a perfect pair then they're up there with the rest of the Italian made ones. I'll finish with Thursday. In terms of value: Uniform Standard takes the prize when it comes to value since it gives you similar constructions to the Italian shoes while coming in at significantly lower cost Album: https://imgur.com/a/e1TOhgh *Obviously, this is just my personal opinion based off what I look for. Your order could be the complete opposite and that's okay. Most of these are a solid pick. I'm not an expert and am just sharing thoughts based on what I like and what I look for. Hope this was somewhat helpful! submitted by /u/Aventador_22 to r/malefashionadvice [link] [comments]

My Review of a Work Trade in Hawai'i (Big Island)
Aloha! I've been off the Big Island and back to school for some months now, but I thought I would share my review of my first work trade I did there at a farm (I did 2 exchanges over 4 months. 2 months at each). I used workaway.info to find the two works trades I did. It's pretty extensive lol. I included my take on the farm as well as my take on island life as I thought it would be beneficial for first time work trades on the Big Island such as myself. I've seen a few Hawai'i posts on here and I know it is a popular destination for work traders. Hope this helps and feel free to ask questions! Mahalo! ~~The below names have been changed~~ ... My 2 months here will be a time in my life that will not soon be forgotten! This was my first ever exchange and my first time coming to Hawaii, so this was certainly a big learning experience for me. I have completed my time here (beginning of January to beginning of March of 2019) and have since moved on to another exchange on the island. I hope my experience below will help folks decide if this is the right work trade for them. I am happy to answer specific questions if you reach out, as well. The Beginning, My Arrival - Brad (farm owner) picked me up from the airport and brought me back to the farm all while telling me about himself, the farm, Hawaii and life here. Brad will always teach you some Hawaiian whenever you’re with him and I’ve integrated some Hawaiian words into my every day vocabulary now :)Everyone at the farm was super nice and welcoming. If you have any questions about how things go, they are more than happy to break down work trade and farm life for you. As with most new places and new times in life, it takes some time to get acquainted. Don’t worry if you’re confused about something. Things will get easier with time. The room provided was nice and is apart of a 4 room shack at the bottom of the farm. Linens, pillows and blankets are provided. Some of the rooms have air mattresses and some have real beds. One of the work traders has cleared an opening for an ocean view on the left side of the shack. There is running water, a sink, a shower and a communal area for hanging out where we’d play some card games and eat together from time to time. Know that it can get chilly at night (sometimes dropping to the 50s!) so bring warm clothes for your trip. There are also some nice hammock spots in and around the shack if you decide to bring one! I had a period of sleeping outside for a while. The stars can be beautiful on a clear night! Transportation - Brad goes into town a few times during the week (takes about 15-20 minutes to get to town by car, depending on traffic) and you can join him to get a ride into town where you can walk around, go shopping, explore, go to the beach, etc.I purchased a scooter from someone living on the farm in my first week. It was a great way to get around and I recommend it for anyone looking for a cheap way to get around town. It was cheap to fill up with gas (

First-time One Bag travel experience with a Peak Design Travel Backpack
First off, thanks to r/onebag community for being so helpful with one another. As a noob to all this, I’ve used the forum as a starting point for figuring out how to strategize my trip. Short Summary: first-time one-bagger learns the importance of balancing practicality with minimalism. The core mistake was not bringing better outerwear for days of cooler weather. Where/When Primary Packing Gear Day Bag Clothes Packing-related lessons learned Other travel thoughts ------------------------ Where/when: NYC (2 nights), Amsterdam (4 nights) and Paris (7 nights), from early through mid-July. Primary Packing Gear: Peak Design Travel Backpack After a few weeks of obsessive research, including reading this sub, I settled on the PD Backpack. Also in consideration, in increasing order of “almost got it instead”: Osprey Farpoint 40L: The awkward placement of the laptop compartment on the outside made this less attractive. Tortuga Outbreaker Travel Backpack 45L: Maxed out size wasn’t appealing plus you can’t stow away the harness system. Topo Designs Travel Bag 40L: Tempting but Pack Hacker found enough small problems with it, including with the harness system, that I opted against. Nomatic Travel Bag 40L: Actually was going to put in a bid for one on eBay. But ultimately, the fact that they decreased the size of the main compartment in order to create space for a shoe locker and socks/underwear compartment was a no-go, especially for my packing needs on this trip. I bought a lightly used Peak Design Travel Backpack (PDTB) off of Facebook Marketplace for $200 which seemed like a reasonable price, especially since PD sells their own refurbished models for $225 w/ free shipping. Overall, I really liked this pack and am happy with the choice. I never had to max it to 45L and after shipping stuff back from New York, I was able to keep it in 30-35L mode most of the time. I found it easy to grab, store and wear. The way the harness system stores away feels next level (but isn’t 100% perfect) and having handle straps on so many sides was also clutch, especially when I was able to use the Pullman strap on the bag in conjunction with the wheelie luggage the rest of my family had. I liked having the hidden pockets for my passport and travel docs when I was moving through the airport. I liked having the top lined zipper pouch to quickly store my phone and earbuds when going through security. The main compartment, even without expansion felt roomy and capable of stuffing more flexible things in different parts. I made use of the hidden lash straps on several occasions and love the magnetic enclosure system that allows you to bring them out and stash them away quickly and unobtrusively. Given that this bag has been reviewed by many, I don’t want to repeat a lot of their same talking points except to say that I feel like the praise it’s received is well-deserved. A few nitpicks though: As Pack Hacker warned, the sternum strap doesn’t secure as well as you’d like when not in use. Mine fell off twice and had someone not picked it up for me the first time, I would have lost it. One of the internal zippers came half off the track and can’t be put back on. Since it’s a double zipper, it didn’t impact my ability to use the overall zipper but I’ll likely have to send this back to PD just to fix a simple zipper issue. Much as I liked the fact that you can button the pack at the top, to slim it down to 30L, in practice, those buttons can unfasten by jostling the bag when it has some weight in it (but far from being maxed out). For example, they would regularly pop out if I picked up the bag from the side, thus shifting contents slightly inside, which put ligtht/moderate pressure on the buttons, causing them to become undone. If I’m giving PD benefit of the doubt, it’s that they didn’t want to create too much stress on those points in the bag structure by creating a more secure system to force it to stay in its 30L state. That said, I just like how the bag looks better in 35L mode. I do like how the harness system is secured but it’s a bit tricky to quickly store the shoulder and hip straps. It takes a little extra time to shift things around to make sure they’re fitting in there efficiently vs. brute-forcing them in. Overall score: 9/10 (scores indicate overall happiness with the choice) My primary packing cubes were Eagle Creek Compression Cubes. They’re fine. I would have preferred the PD cubes for aesthetic reasons but I already owned the Eagle Creek ones and didn’t to buy a new set just for the sake of. The large size that I had fit the PDTB well and I was able to put most of my primary bottoms and tops into it. The medium was more underutilized but I mostly used it for the sweater I brought along (see below). 8/10. I also added a super-cheap Daiso packing pouch for my socks and underwear. It’s not built to last but for $1.50, I’m not complaining. 8/10 Day Bag: Alternative Apparel Mailbag Compu-Messenger Could they not have come up with a better name for this? Just saying. Anyways, this is not a typical day bag choice for one bag purposes. However, I went to NYC to DJ a wedding and therefore felt like I needed some kind of record/laptop bag with me for those purposes. Besides, it could also double as a day bag when I was in Europe even though it’s not a conventional choice for that, nor should it be (I write more about this in the comments if you’re interested). 7.5/10 In my one-bag obsessive phase, I did look into a more packable option and was ready to go with a combination of A) any kind of super-light nylon packable bag with combined with B) a TomToc laptop sleeve/accessory organizer that I could have stored inside the PDTB laptop sleeve (sans accessories) and then move that over to the packable bag. In the end, the weight difference was negligible and having a sturdier laptop/record bag just made better overall sense for the specific needs of this trip. Had I *not* had a gig, I would have brought something different as a day bag; perhaps a packable sling messenger or a Metrosafe 7L shoulder bag I gave to my kid to use instead. Clothes: A complicating factor at the outset: 3/4ths of my trip was in warmer (75-80F+) weather in NYC and Paris but the 1/4 in Amsterdam was going to be wet and cool (60-65F). As I’ll discuss in Part 5, in hindsight, I packed fine for the warmer climes but not as well for the cooler ones. Three pairs of American Trench merino activity socks with silver. I just wrote about them here because they’re on sale. 10/10 Three pairs of Uniqlo Airism boxers. One bag budget classics; light and they wash/dry fast. Only regret is that I bought a pair without a fly, not realizing they ones with flies. 9/10 (1 point off for the one that lacked a fly) One Airism crewneck t-shirts, primarily for sleep. These are fine. Color selection was limited; I would have preferred in it gray or navy but mine is black. 8.5/10 One crewneck cotton pocket tee. I could just wear it out in warmer weather but it could also double as a sleep shirt if the Airism was being washed. A merino one would have been more practical but it’s what I had around. 8.5/10 One short-sleeved linen popover. Good for warmer climes. Not good for cooler ones. 8/10 One short-sleeved cotton Aloha shirt. I mostly brought this because I wanted at least one shirt with some pizzazz. Not an open weave fabric so it wasn’t great for the hottest/most humid days. 7.5/10 One long-sleeved linen shirt. Super versatile as it worked in both cooler and warmer cities and importantly, properly ironed, it was dressy enough to wear it to the wedding. Once more wrinkled, I just threw it together with any of the bottoms I brought. 10/10 One long-sleeved linen sweater (worn like a shirt). An ok choice for cooler climes or for the plane. Felt like it might have been too warm for the hotter places though. 8.5/10 Three lightweight and breathable pants (chambray, linen and silk/linen). All three were good for the warmer places but not the wetter/cooler ones. Not sure I really needed three. I could have swapped out the silk/linen pair for a three-season wool pair instead. 8/10 overall but the chambray trousers are what I paired with my long-sleeve linen shirt for the wedding so that one gets upgraded to 10/10 for versatility. One medium-lightweight pair of cotton pants. Less versatile than I thought they’d be. They’re not as breathable and thus not a great choice for hot/humid weather but they’re also not thick enough to be an obvious choice for wet/cool weather. 7/10 One pair of sneakers (New Balance 990V4). Now that dad shoes are cool (sort of), these were a good choice for walking comfort and they paired with all my outfits except my wedding one. 9/10 One pair of boots (Allen Edmonds chukkas in country grain leather with Dainite sole). Not a dress boot but sleek enough that I wore them at the wedding without them looking out of place and they are very good for wet weather. They are heavier though so they didn’t get as much wear in warmer cities. 8.5/10 One lambswool cardigan. I thought this made sense on paper: light and packable. But as I discuss below, I should have just brought a jacket instead. 5/10 One linen blazer, worn strictly for wedding and mailed home after. Score not applicable. One Bag lessons learned I’ll start with the biggest mistake I made: not properly packing for the weather of the overall trip. Amsterdam ended up being wet/rainy and about 15 degrees (F) cooler than either NYC or Paris. Even though it only took up 1/4 of the total trip, that’s still four days where I realized “f___, I should have brought a jacket,” especially when it was 60F and wet. I don’t have dedicated packable travel jacket (nor would have bought one just for the trip) but if I had a redo, I would have packed my Barbour Sapper waxed jacket, a water-resistant field jacket with tons of pockets. Even if it would have stayed in my luggage for all of NYC and Paris, I still could have used it for Amsterdam to full effect. By the same token, I own several wool and cashmere beanies and should have brought one of them. Instead, I relied on a linen cap to keep my head warm which is great for warm weather but not so good when it’s chillier. I was too overzealous in trying to minimize weight and sacrificing utility in the process. This is even sillier, in hindsight, because I wasn’t backpacking. I just needed to carry my PDTB through airports with a little bit of city walking to get to my lodging areas but despite that I was obsessing over a few ounces here and there. I’d like to find a better day bag option for the future. I generally don’t like backpacks even though I realize they’re a more practical choice over a messenger-style bag. My next trip comes up in Nov. so I’ll do some research between now and then. I’ll also have to think about what other travel clothes I might want, if any. I’m not opposed to having something like a merino travel tee; those do seem practical to me now. But I don’t know if I’d buy a pair of travel-friendly pants just to have them as I prefer natural fabrics and non-technical styles. On the flip side, as I learned, a good versatile travel jacket should be more of a priority, especially if the climate merits it. I also picked up a small (15”x15”) microfiber travel towel (more like hankie) though I realize now that I only really needed it for NYC because of the humidity, just to wipe sweat down. It’s so small, it’s worth just bringing along in general. I didn’t miss, on this trip, having more organizational cubes or the like. The PD tech pouch looks cool but given all the internal organization in the backpack itself, I didn’t feel like I was missing out by not buying one. Likewise, unless I had wanted to bring out a shaving kit, I don’t have much toiletries beyond a toothbrush and toothpaste so a dedicated wash pouch also wasn’t necessary. I was glad I bought a bunch of basic shoe bags, especially since the PDTB was wide enough to accommodate my size 11 sneakers and boots (separately, not both pairs together). Other travel thoughts One thing I did to lighten the load and would do again: I had ~4-5lbs of items that I had brought out strictly for the DJ gig in NYC and the day after, the wedding I carefully packaged them into a box, rolled and bagged up my blazer, and then shipped it all home to myself for ~$25. It meant I didn’t need to tote their weight anymore and didn’t need to worry about them during the rest of the trip. Of course, had I already been in Europe, I don’t think I would have done this because it would have been too cost-prohibitive but as I had the opportunity to literally lighten my load, I chose to do so. I own both an iPhone and Apple Watch and I used Apple Maps on the phone a lot because it could transmit turn-by-turn directions to my wrist. Convenient, yes, but Apple Maps is still an inferior product compared to Google Maps (which won’t work on the Watch). Not only is its database more limited but if you ask for transit directions, it won’t give you real-time turn-by-turn directions for any walking portion involved. It’s been quite annoying and I assume that Google/Apple have some beef that prevents a better integration. I hope that will change or maybe Apple Maps will eventually catch up. I know many travelers prefer to avoid sleeping pills but Ambien really helped with dealing with jet lag. There was one night where even Ambien couldn’t help but otherwise, it was getting me 7-8 hours every time. I forgot to save some to help with jet lag once I got home though. EDIT: forgot to mention, if you're a US customer of Sprint, their free International Roaming is pretty decent despite the fact that the data speeds are like 1990s dial-up (or worse). The free texting is great and the data speeds are good enough for GPS/mapping purposes in most cases. For $5/day or $25/week, you can go full 4G instead which is as good or cheaper than either getting a separate SIM or renting a MiFi device. submitted by /u/soulsides to r/onebag [link] [comments]

Intro to Streetwear Guide (Spring/Summer 2015)
Warning: Streetwear is, by definition, a subjective sense of style. You might not agree with everything posted in here and there isn't a definitive way you should dress. Second Warning: Most of this guide was written while I was stoned to the bone. That being said, it still turned out better than some of the other guides posted recently, if I do say so myself. I made this a few weeks ago and have been meaning to post this for a while but long story short I haven't had internet at my house lately and my data plan was almost out so mobile wasn't an option. Intro Ok so it seems to be the current trendy thing to post half ass guides for this sub. However, this guide will hopefully not be one of those. I'm by far not the best person to tell you how to dress but I believe I'm more qualified than some people in this sub. I've been keeping up with streetwear for nearly four years now and have been relatively active on this sub for around a year. That being said, remember a good bit of this will be opinion-based, like many of the guides on this sub. This guide is mainly directed towards more Spring/Summer looks considering that typical streetwear trends like goth ninja that heavily rely on layering aren’t really possible in warmer weather. I will try to link brands and products to help provide examples of what I’m talking about or products you could consider buying. In the process of making this guide, I decided to make any links imgur links to pictures of specific products to show the style of the item I’m talking about instead of linking to a place to buy that specific item. However I’m going to include a list of w2c each item in the comments. Table of Contents ESSENTIALS Basics Shirts Pants/Shorts Outerwear Accessories SHOES Sneakers Boots GRAILS Resale PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER ESSENTIALS BASICS When talking about streetwear, the term includes any simple, plain tee shirts, hoodies, crewnecks, etc. Basics typically don’t have any graphics or major branding. However this is not always the case. Most people won’t spend much on basics individually, but tend to look for less expensive, high quality basics. Many people will recommend brands such as Uniqlo, H&M, American Apparel, etc. I don’t have any personal experience with H&M, so I can’t vouch for their quality, and I’ve heard mixed reviews. However, Uniqlo is my go-to for basics, simply based on the quality you get at such a great price. I typically avoid ordering from American Apparel just because I can’t afford to buy as much from there. If you don’t care as much about great quality and your basics lasting a long time, you can always stick to the classic Hanes SHIRTS In streetwear, other than basic tee shirts, crewnecks, and hoodies, you should have a solid rotation of shirts. These could include graphic tees, tanks, button downs/ups, baseball, football, basketball, and even soccer jerseys. Another popular style for the summer is the mandarin or band collar. Make sure you wear shirts that fit your body and body type. For instance, I never wear tanks or basketball jerseys because I have a “dad body” so they don’t look very good on me. I stick to graphic tees and short sleeve button ups with simple patterns/designs. Jerseys play a huge part in streetwear. Also, it’s worth noting that many in the streetwear community recommend avoiding jerseys from actual sports teams. Stick to jerseys from designers/clothing brands. There’s nothing wrong with jerseys for real teams, they just belong on a court/field or in the stands. PANTS/SHORTS Everyone should have a few pairs of jeans in their wardrobe. I’d recommend having at least one pair of dark blue, one pair of light wash, and one pair of black jeans. If you feel like you need or want more jeans, you can get into the world of raw denim or distressed jeans, though it is usually much cheaper to distress an old pair yourself. Many people prefer their pants to have a tapered, slim, or skinny fit. Other than jeans, it’s usually a good idea to have at least one pair of chinos or work pants. Many people also like their pants to stack The best way to achieve this effect is to buy skinny pants or get your pants tapered (it’s usually recommended to a 6” opening at the ankle) and buy pants with an inseam around 4”-6” longer than your inseam length. An alternative to this method for “stacking” your pants is to buy j-cut jeans. In addition to a solid rotation of pants, you should also have some shorts for the warmer months. Some streetwear staples for shorts would be sweatshorts, chino shorts, shorts with prints and patterns, and this year, even jorts seem to be gaining in popularity. OUTERWEAR It’s really not the best idea to wear heavy outerwear in the summer months because of increased heat and humidity. However, it it still recommended you keep a couple lightweight, versatile outerwear pieces somewhere in your rotation for rainy or windy days. I’d recommend something that is breathable, will break wind, and is waterproof or water resistant. Some popular styles for the summer are just typical windbreakers, coach jackets, anoraks, and denim trucker jackets. ACCESSORIES Accessories are a great way you can make your fits a little more personal. However, it is very easy to go overboard. As a general rule of thumb, you should look in the mirror wearing whatever accessories you think you want to wear for that day, then remove at least one accessory. Accessories typically include hats ( 5 panels or “camp caps” and baseball caps are always popular ) and jewelry such as watches, bracelets, chains/pendants, etc. Some other styles of hats that are still technically “streetwear” but many would consider “played out” are bucket hats and snapbacks. Other hats would include boonies and beanies If you live in an area that’s typically sunny during the warmer months, you should also have a nice pair of sunglasses to help protect your eyes. Many people will recommend Ray Ban wayfarers or clubmasters. However, there are many more options out there that are worth taking a look at. For instance, Monocle Order is a site run by a user on this sub /u/heresmyusername that focuses on independent brands with high quality, stylish eyewear. SHOES SNEAKERS There isn’t much to be said about sneakers that hasn’t been said before. I’d highly recommend checking out /u/cantaloupsareswell’s recent Guide to Summer Sneakers. All I can really add to what he has already said is that it is a good idea to diversify your sneaker rotation as far as brands go (you don’t want all Nike/Asics/Adidas/whatever). You should also try to build a rotation with different styles of sneakers. This would include runners, tennis/court shoes, and basketball/lifestyle shoes. BOOTS In addition to sneakers, it’s generally a good idea to have at least one pair of boots in your wardrobe. Popular styles are work boots and chelsea boots. It is usually best to not wear shorts with boots, but we’ll discuss that more later. GRAILS A popular term in the streetwear community is “grail.” This refers to an item that someone deems difficult to obtain whether it be due to rarity or cost. However, this doesn’t mean you’ll never get your grails. You just have to be patient and save your money and eventually your grails will come up for sale at a good price. Some of the more common “grail” items are Supreme Box Logo hoodies, Bape Shark hoodies, Rick Owens Geobaskets, Raf Simons x Adidas Ozweego 2s, and even stuff a that retails for a little less but has a high resale price due to demand like Air Jordan 1 “Breds.” In most cases, grails are more of a statement piece, meant to be the focus of the outfit or to be shown off. With that being said, it is typically best to wear neutral or muted colors for the rest of the outfit. RESALE You’re not always going to be able to cop items you want at the retail price. For instance, Supreme has drops every Thursday at 11:00am EST when it’s in their season. The entire collection for a season doesn’t drop at once. Instead they drop a few things each week for a few months then close the webstore for a while to prepare for the next season. More often than not, a few items releasing have “hype” around them. These items typically sell out quickly, sometimes in seconds due to people using bots and just all around swiftness. If you are unable to buy a piece from the webstore before it sells out, your two options are to 1. give up and move on or 2. find someone reselling that item. Resale prices are generally much higher than the retail price. For instance, a Supreme Box Logo tee (which DO NOT release every season) would have a retail price of $32, but you’d be lucky to find a legit one for under $200, depending on condition. Typically, good places to find an item for resale are: this subreddit /r/supremeclothing eBay Grailed REMEMBER TO ALWAYS GET A LC (LEGIT CHECK) BEFORE YOU PURCHASE AN ITEM EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW ENOUGH TO SAY IT’S LEGIT. NOTHING COULD HURT WORSE THAN GETTING SCAMMED OUT OF YOUR MONEY FOR A FAKE. PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER There’s more to streetwear than just having a dope wardrobe. A big part of it is being able to put that wardrobe together into fashionable, cohesive fits. Having several expensive/rare pieces really isn’t worth much if you can’t work it into a fit well. The best advice I could give is to limit your loud pieces to only one per fit. “Loud” pieces could include pieces with bright colors, distracting prints or patterns, excessive branding, anything overly flashy, etc. If you’re wearing boots of any type, DO NOT wear shorts. High top sneakers with shorts are also not advised. The main reason for this is that it simply doesn't "look right". Pastel colors, particularly pink, blue, and mint green are trendy this season. These would go best with lighter neutral colors like white, cream, beige, etc. Every fit doesn’t need a hat or a lot of accessorizing. However they can definitely improve a fit when used well. If you need inspiration for your wardrobe, there are plenty of inspo albums on the sub. *Inspo albums are meant to provide inspiration for a general style. Not a “what should I wear with this one v specific item I’m thinking about getting?” or “look at the fades on all this raw denim.” There’s a ridiculous amount of shitty “inspo albums” on the sub too. Hopefully this helps some of you get started in streetwear and developing your wardrobe Edit: formatting submitted by /u/yungfluff to r/streetwear [link] [comments]
