What Working at Amazon Warehouses for 5+ Years Taught Me
TLDR: hard work doesn’t pay, coworkers are not friends, don’t confront other Level 1 associates Hard work is not the key to success and is not rewarded as it should be. In some cases, like in Amazon FCs, hard work is punished. Do you work hard, are your numbers double or triple that of the bottom half of your department? Congratulations, you played yourself. Now, you will always be expected to work that hard. You will be at the bottom of the list for indirect training. Managers and PAs will see you as weak/foolish, someone to exploit. Coworkers will associate with you because it makes them look good, but they will be reluctant to help you because you will make them look bad in comparison and will outcompete them for a promotion. You might even get snitched by those protecting their roles/promotion opportunities. Other Tier 1s might not like you simply because you are bringing the expected rate up by hitting double rate working like crazy. Coworkers, managers, anybody else in your building is not a “friend.” You are not a team, just other people you work with. Don’t talk about your personal life or allow any disrespect. Amazon is a dog-eat-dog environment, most people are “ok” but for the sake of simplicity you should be on the defensive and protect your own interests. Don’t negotiate or explain yourself when not necessary. For example, if managers are not training you in indirects or rotating you between roles/stations, don’t get emotional. Simply document and go straight to HR, ethics, safety, etc. Stick to the facts and keep it short and non-emotional. Don’t confront other Level 1 associates to try and work out issues/small conflicts. For example, if AA Jane Doe almost bumps into you on the Green Mile because she was on her phone not paying attention, don’t confront her about it, go straight to a Level 4 and if the issue is more serious, have at least 1 other witness present. Reason being is that some associates will resort to lying outright, that associate that you coached for almost bumping into you might lie and say that you insulted her/disrespected her or are harassing her. They might flip the table on you. So simply don’t engage directly, use a Level 4 as proxy. ——- I realize some of this info might be “The Sky is blue” to some of you, but some of us like myself had a more naive, do the right thing, work hard, people are good mentality. We stay optimistic and keep a good work ethic but in an environment like Amazon, that is a recipe for disaster. You will get used and abused. Amazon didn’t become a top 5 company in the world by treating its employees fairly. submitted by /u/Impulsive_Wannabe to r/AmazonFC [link] [comments]

Many people say it is really hit or miss, that it can be like high school drama. And managers who are petty. And no one to address your workplace complaints, except for the 1-800 HR. I mean, that may not seem serious, but it is defintely that to me. I've quit jobs or not started for much less. I can't tolerate toxic. I need a sense of unity, politeness, and friendliness between co-workers. And trust. And if not that, where everyone works independently and is their own boss. Is that unreasonable? My friend, a 5-year senior recruiter at Amazon, was just laid off. She lived and breathed the Amazon way. No job is safe.
Just need to vent and share a story that's hitting me hard. My close friend, a Lead Recruiter at Amazon for over 5 years, was laid off yesterday. This wasn't a performance issue. This person was a top performer, could recruit for any department with her eyes closed, and was incredibly senior. The worst part? She truly believed in the company. She was always active at tech events repping Amazon, trying to bring in talent. She would talk to me about the Leadership Principles like they were gospel. She did everything right. It just feels like such a betrayal. With all the news this week about Amazon cutting 14,0To 30,000 corporate (not warehouse) jobs to 'remove layers' and pivot to AI, her story just makes it real. All that loyalty, all that hard work, and you're just a line item on a spreadsheet to 'realize efficiency gains.' She's in total shock. And it just makes me think: if she's not safe, no one is. I'm so worried about what this AI-driven job market is going to look like. It's cutting all these corporate jobs, and I just don't see how people are supposed to 'adapt' to this. What a terrifying time. What do you see in the shift in workforce? What's the job market in 5 years going to look like? We certainly can't have 10 million people laid off and starve... submitted by /u/RayWang4212 to r/Layoffs [link] [comments]

Do Not Settle For a Warehouse Job
I know that most Tier 1 employees, when they join a warehouse position, quickly get used to the routine. Even though they may not be happy with the job, they often continue doing it for years. I know someone who has been with Amazon for 15 years and is still doing PS work. It's important to look at the job as an opportunity to grow, learn, and find a career path. Many employees that you see whether in management, HR, non-inventory, learning, or IT—started as Tier 1. These opportunities allowed them to grow, pursue new career paths, and increase their salaries. If none of those roles interest you, be sure to take advantage of the Career Choice program, which provides up to $5,000 a year toward education. This can help you earn new certifications that will boost your earning potential. Don’t let a routine labor job distract you from growth, or settle for a fixed income with only fe cents annual raises. Your life is shaped by your decisions. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. submitted by /u/SlowMotionNote9 to r/AmazonFC [link] [comments]

I'm a university student who hasn't had a job for the past two months, despite applying everywhere. I've been seeing ads on Spotify and YouTube about Amazon Fulfillment hiring, but when I go to their site, there are no available positions. What am I doing wrong? Why are these ads even open? How are international students getting Amazon jobs while I, as a Canadian, can't even find or get any job at Amazon Fulfillment or warehouse jobs? submitted by /u/Annual-Box-6249 to r/ontario [link] [comments]

Amazon warehouse jobs - How is your experience?
I read horror stories about how bad the working conditions are. But maybe that's a US thing. I was wondering how is it here in Germany? About me: 31M. Done with my masters degree. My only non-office job experience is in Weihnachtsmarkt working in a Bonbon shop. I am thinking of working in a Amazon warehouse as part-time to support myself financially until I find a full-time job. Apart from the general experience, I have some specific question - 1. Does one have to interact with people a lot? Or is it more of a solo job? 2. Is language level B1 enough? 3. My main focus now should be full-time job search. After a part-time job at the warehouse, will it be too exhausting to do anything? I know this is individual, but generally speaking how stressful and/or exhausting is the job? I thank you a lot in advance for your help ☺️ submitted by /u/Same-Picture to r/germany [link] [comments]

I'm one of the hundreds of Amazon warehouse workers in the UK, protesting for better working conditions. The company treats us like robots.

gonna speed run getting fired at Amazon warehouse
If the company emails me a valid promo code so I can buy the shoes required to work there, my first day working at Amazon warehouse I'm just gonna completely half ass the job and intentio ally be as fast paced as they want me to be and I'm only less than 130 pounds and 5'4 ft tall and they want you moving like you're a roughneck. I may also experiment getting high on a joint or tripping on shrooms while on the job and see if they get angry and fire me on the spot. Yes this is goofy for me to do but Amazon is a goofy company to work at and paying only $15 per hour in my area that's really expensive they don't get my full hard work. submitted by /u/torosblanca96 to r/antiwork [link] [comments]
