We have a different gene mutation DMPK it occurs on the 19th chromosome which messed up our genetic code and my son has a very high level of this repeat of these proteins which caused his autism and special needs. Me and my 3 kids all suffer but my son is affected the most. Sorry I know its not the same thing but, I do understand having a mutation in the genes and all the entails.

I hate how autism is becoming a “trend”
Before I start, I am not against self diagnosis. If someone is experiencing the symptoms of a disorder, then I think they should be allowed to find respite following coping guides and whatnot for that disorder. That being said, it has become trendy to say things like “I have a touch of the tism” for experiencing only a single trait of the disorder, or worse (and more often in my experience), a thing that EVERYONE experiences. And this has began to directly harm me, and I would assume other autists as well. Before autism became “mainstream,” my sensory issues were taken a lot more seriously. If I expressed discomfort with the amount of noises in one room, the other person would often not assume that I am overreacting, and instead would acknowledge that they aren’t autistic and thus wouldn’t know what it is like. Nowadays, people assume that they know better than the autistic person about what causes them distress, and thus often speak over them. Now, if I express discomfort, the other person often calls me dramatic and refuses to allow me to remove myself from the environment, and I have realized that these people are almost always the same ones who will say “I’m so overstimulated“ in response to things that EVERYONE is overwhelmed by, or who will do something ”quirky” and say they “have a touch of the tism.” But they don’t. They have never experienced how overwhelming the mundane can be. They have never been driven to a public, embarrassing, self-injurous meltdown as an involuntary response where they can’t even control their body. They likely have never been ostracized for attempting to express themselves in the “wrong” way, while they had no idea that it even was wrong. I could keep going, but I worry I am falling into a victim mentality here when I shouldn’t be. My point is, if you don’t experience something, then to claim that another person doesn’t either is incredibly selfish and shitty. submitted by /u/Chronoport to r/hatethissmug [link] [comments]

I HATE the self diagnosing of autism and its mischaracterisation
Let me start by saying SELF DIAGNOSING IS NOT VALID. You are NOT autistic just because someone on tiktok said "Did you know, if you need to have your eyes closed in order to fall asleep, you have autism, adhd, bipolarity, DID, BPD, psychopathy, depression and PTSD?" And before yall come at me with "well I always suspected I had autism, I got screened and then got my diagnosis" well this not about you, this is about people that self diagnose after experiencing the most normal day to day life things ever. And they ALWAYS think that autism will give them a personality (since it's usually basic bitches with no personality that self diagnose to feel like they belong) No, you're not a quirky crazy crackhead energy "neurospicy" person. Even worse when they say shit like "Heh, I could NEVER be a neuro normie like yall, autism makes me special and quirky and full of personality". You can't even like something anymore without them going "OMG URE AUTISTIC JUST LIKE MEEEE IM SOOOO AUTISTIC AHAHAHA" And you can tell they larp the whole thing cus they'll see a tiktok autism personality and try to replicate it "Dino nuggies..." "You can not say overstimulated if you're nEuRoTyPiCaL, that word is for us neurospicy people ONLY >:(" Holy shiiiiiiittt yall lack a personality so bad. And I've seen people say that they've seen NUMEROUS specialists but they never fit the criteria, but its not because they're not autistic, no no no no no. ITS UHMMM BECAUSE IM A WOMAN AND ALSO A MINORITY AND IM ALSO POOR SO I MASKED ALL MY LIFE AND THE SPECIALIST ON THIS FIELD COULDNT TELL I WAS MASKING. ITS THE SYSTEMS FAULT NOT MINE. Sheesh. Sorry for the long rant, im just tired of seeing people self diagnose all the time, or see an energetic video, or literally ANYTHING, and make it about their self diagnosed autism. Saw a cute cat animation on Instagram and the top comment was "This is so autistic I love it" submitted by /u/Beshiniqua to r/hatethissmug [link] [comments]

(Hated Trope) Awful Behaviour gets excused due to autism
Max (Parenthood) is a rude and selfish character who complains when people don’t wannt to do what he wants. But he never gets told off by his parents and is outright rewarded and favoured compared to his sister (literally his parents get more excited about Max doing something than their daughter going to college) Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory) is a arrogant and selfish little prick who always puts other people down to make himself appear superior and he never gets called out! Edit: Another example is Entrapta from She-Ra. She worked with VILLAINS and almost killed the main cast. submitted by /u/Necessary-Win-8730 to r/TopCharacterTropes [link] [comments]

Ableist Autism Representation
This post was inspired by that earlier false advertising post I saw that reminded me of this trope. If you look closely, you’ll realize harmful autism stereotypes and story tropes are extremely common in media. There’s different variations, but they generally share a few key characteristics: - They are either a genius savant with little to no social skills and have low levels of empathy or human emotion, or have very high needs and are seen as “morons”. No in between. No room for nuance in the spectrum. - They are often seen as innocent, and the high needs characters are seen as pure, almost infantile. This is used often as inspiration porn for the other characters as well as the audience to make everyone feel good. They also have no agency of their own - They are almost never the focus of the story in the sense that their own experiences, agency, thoughts or experiences are given serious weight or given the priority. Instead, the main themes and story treat the neurotypical people AROUND them as the main characters, and what THEY have to deal with. The autistic characters are often little more than props. Examples 1 - Music This film has so many issues. The story centers around an autistic girl named Music with high needs, but the main character is her sister. She is seen as infantile, pure, and the non autistic actress was directed to give her every single stereotypical tic imaginable at once. There are also two scenes where *very dangerous* restraint holds were used on her and portrayed as a good thing. 2 - The Unbreakable Boy The boy in question, Austin, is a prop for the actual main character, his alcoholic father. Several of the above issues with how Music is portrayed are seen here as well, especially concerning their “imagination and innocence” inspiring other characters to feel better. 3 - The Predator One of this film’s plot threads is about a predator hunting down an autistic savant, because “autism is the next step in evolution” and he wants the kid’s autism genes to advance the predator race. Most unintentionally hilarious example here. 4 - The Good Doctor I don’t think this example is as bad as the others, but I do think there are many valid criticisms with it. The biggest being Shaun as a savant stereotype, but it also feels like the way his autism is expressed is meant for neurotypical to understand and empathise with, not other autistic people. Also not a good look that no writer was autistic, or the actor. 5 - The Boy on the Bridge The less famous prequel to The Girl with all the Gifts centers around a scientist and her adopted teenage son, an autistic savant supergenious with all of the stereotypes attached. He doesn’t really have much of a character and is more of a prop for her, as well as plot tensions between the other scientists. This book also draws my ire for having the “woman becomes pregnant in a zombie apocalypse and has to give birth symbolising new life” trope, the fact that it’s just a repeat of the original book but worse, and the fact that every single character is the dumbest moron on the planet. 6 - The Big Bang Theory This example is a little different from the rest, as the writers state that Sheldon Cooper is not autistic. However, basically everyone agrees that he was written that way. It seems like the writers just wanted to have their cake and eat it too by making an autism “innocent bigot” joke character while trying not to get backlash for being ableist. submitted by /u/Alternative_Factor_4 to r/TopCharacterTropes [link] [comments]

Joe Rogan insists autism is caused by chemicals, vaccines and an ADHD diagnosis is an excuse to prescribe medication.
Rogan also says that 1 in 12 boys in California are autistic now, that a few decades ago it was 1 in 10,000. Don’t you think thats because we didn’t know as much about autism as we do now and that the public is more aware of autism than before? submitted by /u/uhh__h to r/Fauxmoi [link] [comments]

What people with autism don’t get
I know it’s built into being autistic to not understand ‘neurotypicals’ but the one thing they get the most wrong is that wider society doesn’t like them because they’re ’too honest’ or ‘too real’ it’s almost always the complete opposite. When someone is most uncomfortable around autistic people it is often because they are talking or acting like a cartoon character. The person can tell they’ve learned how to socialise and talk from children’s movies or TV shows instead of friends and family and it makes them uncomfortable because they’re watching a facsimile of a human. Often autistic people will pick the most irritating, ‘quirky’, chatterbox character from their favourite Nickelodeon cartoon and just speak like that all the time. Ask any nt person to mimic an autistic and they will speak like an anime character or like someone in a theatre show. submitted by /u/15millionschmeckles to r/redscarepod [link] [comments]

Autism is a death sentence for the parents
Sometimes I truly loathe being a parent. This isn’t the life I wanted. I do love my son but he was never planned. I wanted to terminate but his dad promised us a great life and said i can go back to work if i wanted. He was the result of a failed nexplanon implant. He is severely autistic and truly a nightmare to deal with despite all the therapies we attend and the hours a day I put into him. I never get sleep I never get help. None of my family can handle him for more than an hour. My mom loves him but can’t handle him. He currently has the stomach flu and is just pooping everywhere and of course it’s on me to clean. As always as I do everything. A month ago we both had Covid and influenza a at the same time. He rested and was fine. Since I had to do everything I ended up with pneumonia. Even with that I had no break and ended up with a heart condition. The doctor says rest or I’ll have permanent damage. Guess I’ll end up dying cause not like anyone will help me with anything. Hope they day comes sooner rather than later for me. Right now he is just screaming and screaming cause he can’t talk (non verbal). And I’m just crying in silence submitted by /u/Ecstatic-Republic-47 to r/regretfulparents [link] [comments]

Is it just my algorithm or literally everyone now thinks they are on the spectrum? People who are actually struggling may have an issue with all this? Fuck Autism
I’m tired of people trying to make me feel bad because I didn’t want to deal with this nightmare of a diagnosis. I straight up admit I absolutely did not fucking want a special needs child which is why I aborted my first pregnancy - there was a chromosomal abnormality so I noped out real quick. Got just about every damn test you could with the second pregnancy and everything was fine. But no. Autism. All I ever fucking wanted was a normal family, is that so much to ask? My life growing up was walking on eggshells because of my mentally ill father and intellectually disabled sister. Then I was free. Only to get dragged back into hell. I’m tired of all the extravagant accommodations and never ending extra shit that goes into autism. We’re supposed to bend over backwards to children who only care about their immediate needs and themselves no matter what the fuck anyone else’s needs are - and then we get blamed for churning out entitled assholes. I’m tired of this broken fucking kid and never ending heavy burden. While I would never hurt him I can absolutely see how this breaks some parents and these nightmare kids end up getting thrown off a bridge. (I’m not saying I would throw him off a bridge you drama queens, I’m saying I can understand how parents snap) Pre natal diagnostics needs to get on the fucking ball. Edit: like moths to a flame the autists are in full force to bitch about how awful I am. Autism isn’t a shield for shit behavior. I’m allowed to be irritated with shit behavior no matter the origin. I’m human. Guess what, you don’t live in a vacuum and your caregivers matter too. I’m sorry (not sorry) that the truth of raising an autistic child triggers you so much but, well, it’s not my job to cater to your feelings. Go somewhere else if you hate it so much. I’m so fucking over it. Go bitch in your 800 other places and let us have one goddamn place. This is exactly why the forum was shut down the first time. Mods got some modding to do if they want this to last. submitted by /u/Inverted-Prolapse to r/regretfulparents [link] [comments]
