11 days in as a first time dad. This lifestyle change just hits me like a ton of bricks.
Hey everyone, first time dad here. My daughter was born last Monday, so we are about 11 days in. I want to preface this by saying I love her to death and I was aware that it would be a lot of work. That being said though, the reality of the lifestyle change has honestly hit me like a ton of bricks. The shock of the new routine is surreal with sleeping in blocks and late night/morning shifts between me and my wife. It feels really weird to be wide awake in a completely silent house, washing bottles and burping a baby. And there's no interaction with the outside world - we don't really go out at all as expected. I’m a dentist, so in my normal day it's structured, fast paced, and a lot of interaction. Not to sound like a captain obvious here, but going from that to this quiet, repetitive shift work just made it feel very.... out of place? I’m not depressed, my wife is doing okay (though the endless cycle of washing bottles and laundry is exhausting for both of us). IMO it’s actually nice to be away from the high stress of work. But the day to day lifestyle flip has just shocked my system more than I initially expected. Did anyone else experience this weird sense of isolation or whiplash in the first two weeks? How long did it take for the new normal to actually feel normal? Thank you. EDIT: Thanks so much for the positive replies guys. Nice to see that I'm not the only one here going through this lol submitted by /u/morningstarprime to r/NewParents [link] [comments]

Lisa 'Go Frank Yourself' Divorce Party
Last weekend, my closest gals and pals got together to celebrate closing this chapter in my life, and realizing that life still moves on - sunny skies ahead, baby! Lisa Frank themed decor including Inflatable dolphins, a blow up alien, 90s Inflatable couch, stars galore, MinniDip reusable balloon garlands and clusters, lots of colour, lots of shine! Activities included decorating ceramic trinket dishes, donning a plethora of temporary tattoos, playing bingo for wicked prizes, building our own BaubleBar keychains, and some karaoke and trivia. For food, it was all about loving ourselves. Chicken parmesean, fettuccine alfredo, cheese tortelloni, salad, broccoli, and breadsticks for dinner. Then, Lisa Frank butter shortbread cookies, a Lisa Frank lambeth-style chocolate SKOR cake, and vanilla and sprinkled spudnuts (handmade doughnuts made with potato flour,) with assorted milks for dessert. The next morning, we had coffee/tea/juice, yogurt parfaits, sweet scones, and breakfast burritos. It all went over incredibly well! Drinks for the evening were peach iced tea, assorted Jones sodas, bottled water, assorted caned sodas, vodka, gin, and rum with mixes and garnishes. Goody bags included a larger clear organizer bag with a mini WET brush, comb, quality scrunchie, star shaped barrettes, Kleenex pocket pack, mini star-shaped sticky notes, a 90s multicolour clicker pen, Hubba Bubba gum tape, Stella and Grace eye gels, temporary tattoos, stick on gem earrings, flip top Lip Smackers, and Kool Aid packets. There was also a smaller clip on sequined bag filled with powder Tylenol, ear plugs, Emergen-C, Shout wipes, makeup removing wipes, Band-Aids, and mini compressed pocket towels. Both bags were in iridescent mini totes that had room for their crafting creations. Afterwards, everyone got personalized thank yous, and photos of the event. While life may sometimes get us down, don't forget to look around, and thank those who stick it out with you. Happy partying, y'all! submitted by /u/AnaphylacticHippo to r/partyplanning [link] [comments]

People who try to flip bottle babies suck!
People in my town bought a sale barn 12 day old Brahman for a $100 thinking they could flip him for $1500, they put out on FB they needed help because they thought he was dying which he was, they’ve never owned cows so I responded. I got there and found out he wouldn’t take a bottle so they just put a bucket of milk out for, so I knew he hadn’t ate for 2-3 days. He was actively trying to nurse on anything and severely malnourished I was so pissed after seeing him, told them he’d be dead in another day if the didn’t do something. I gave them $200 threw him in my backseat, got him home gave him electrolytes and he took a bottle no problem. His navel was severely infected so I took him to my cattle vet and he did surgery. After five days, he’s totally thriving now. I named him #49 Wobbles because he could barely stand when I found him. Sorry, I had to vent about it submitted by /u/DontBeAPotlicker to r/Cattle [link] [comments]

Bridesmaid with a 3-month-old (EBF) — SIL now says no babies at wedding. What would you do?
I’m looking for advice because I feel completely stuck and honestly really emotional about this. I’m in my sister-in-law’s wedding (my husband’s sister), and I had a baby 3 months ago. I’m exclusively breastfeeding. Earlier in her wedding planning, she said something along the lines of: “Breastfeeding babies will be allowed at the wedding” — basically so moms could bring babies without opening it up to all kids. I felt SO relieved and grateful when she said that. Fast forward to when I was about 9 months pregnant. I mentioned in a conversation that I wouldn’t attend my own sister’s wedding if my baby wasn’t allowed. My SIL immediately stopped me and said, “You know there are no kids allowed at my wedding.” That turned into a whole thing where people were basically saying it’s her wedding, her rules — which I do agree with in general. But to me, a 5-month-old breastfeeding baby feels very different than “kids.” Here’s another big factor: I originally would have had my mom watch the baby, but she passed away when my baby was only a month old. So my childcare plans are gone, and that’s been really hard. On the flip side, my own sister ended up completely changing her perspective after meeting my baby — she actually asked for the baby to be in her wedding and apologized for initially not understanding. That meant a lot to me. There’s also another piece that’s really bothering me. My sister invited my SIL to her wedding, but my SIL did not invite my sister to hers. The reason (as I understand it) is that my SIL fully expected my sister to stay behind and watch my baby. The problem is… my sister isn’t capable of watching an infant, and that’s not something I’m comfortable with anyway. It also feels really insulting that this decision was basically made for us — assigning her as childcare without asking — and then isn't even inviting her to the wedding because of it. (My sister is very insulted too) My SIL, though, has doubled down on “no babies.” I’m a bridesmaid, and I feel like if I step down or don’t go, I’ll ruin her wedding and feel guilty forever. But I also genuinely don’t think I can be away from my baby that long. I would need to feed her or I’ll be extremely uncomfortable/engorged. I would absolutely be respectful — step out if she fusses, have my husband take her out immediately during important moments, etc. I’m not trying to disrupt anything. We’ve also tried introducing a bottle, and it’s just not working for us right now. I truly don’t understand how someone can ask a newly postpartum, breastfeeding mom to be a bridesmaid and not allow her access to her baby all day. What would you do in my situation? submitted by /u/Lumpy_Bandicoot_8967 to r/beyondthebump [link] [comments]

AITAH for telling my husband that I "dont give a sh*t" about his mother?
This could all be chalked up to paranoia on my end and if you feel that is what this is, please do tell me. I will be the first to admit that I am not in a good head space (diagnosed postpartum depression AND postpartum rage). So, here goes.. I gave birth 5 weeks ago. I did not have a support system outside of my husband during this time. My mom lives across the country and all of my (5) siblings are with her. Half way through my delivery, while I was roughly 6.5 centimeters dilated and all but begging for the epidural, my MIL comes in to our delivery room uninvited and the nurses ask her if she is here to "support mom", and she goes "oh no, I am here to make sure MY baby has someone to hold him up" and instantly tries getting him to sit on the couch with her, telling him I was fine and that he needed to relax a bit (he was holding my hand and rubbing my back). He just ignores her completely and she eventually left. She came by unannounced to our home 3 days later and went on a tirade about how I needed to let the baby self soothe and how me constantly holding the baby was going to make her sons life miserable because I was creating a monster. My husband was not home at the time. I told her to leave several times, as she was now standing between me and my baby (who was UNBUCKLED in her swing, with it ON because my MIL literally just turned it on and stepped between me and my child before I could buckle her). My husband comes home, sees me flipping out and crying, and kicks his mom out (tells her to "f*ck right off and leave). She leaves with no problem. For the first 3ish weeks after this happened, my husband was acting completely normal. He apologized for his moms behavior several times and acted very, very guilty for having not been here to stop it before it got to that point. But otherwise, life went on normally and we fell in to learning our baby and parenthood. But about a week and a half ago he just started acting a bit off. Stopped talking as much. Looked super depressed/exhausted all the time. I finally got him to open up long enough to tell me that he missed his mom and felt guilty that she wasnt around to experience his first child (she has 7 other grandchildren, all of which she is a normal grandmother too and super loving and involved). He says he wants to invite her over and give her a chance to apologize. I just dont say anything. Mind you at this point I had already been diagnosed with PPD and PPR and mentally was just very, very not okay. So, I wanted to snap at this request but instead, I bit my tongue and asked him to give me a week. He said okay. Well, he didnt give me a week. She was at my house 2 days later. He swears he didnt invite her. I have no proof whether he did or didnt. But in his defense, he at least had the decency to act panicked, guilty and ask her why she was here. She told him that she wanted to come over and speak to me directly. She did apologize, saying that she was "just concerned" and that she had raised 4 kids and knew what she was doing and was just trying to give advice and hadnt realized it was such a sore subject. That was it. She didnt wait for me to respond, she just turned to my husband and asked him to go outdoors with her to "chit chat". She left an hour later. I was admittedly absolutely livid and told my husband that I asked him for a week and he just decided that he was going to do whatever he wanted anyways. He said it was "his f*cking life too" and that I was being selfish for not understanding his position. After that, I checked out honestly. I viewed him as absolutely repulsive. And that was amplified significantly because his mother has been here several times since that point. She has never once held the baby. She has never once asked how I was. She has never once even looked in my child's direction - other than a singular moment when she decided to snap a photo of me nursing and send that photo to the entire family, before telling me that I "should really cover up". I ignore her, she has otherwise ignored me. Fast forward to 3 days ago. My mom planned a surprise trip with all my siblings to come visit me and the baby for a week (hotel room, not staying here). But one of my siblings slipped up and accidentally said "I cant wait to see you" (shes 14) when I was on the phone with mom. So, I found out and was super stoked. I went to tell my husband and he asked when they would be here and I told him their flight lands tomorrow morning. He just instantly says "that doesnt work. Moms birthday is tomorrow and I planned a dinner for her." Maybe its my PPD/PPR talking but I snapped and said I "don't give a f*ck about your mother" and stated that he disrespected me time and time again by allowing that woman anywhere near me and that he can enjoy a dinner with his mom without me and the baby because I am going with my family. He argued that "his baby" had to be there for his moms birthday and I stood firm and said no. That woman has never once even held our child or shown interest in our child so no, the baby will be going with me. And he really had the nerve to say that I was "constantly choosing my family over him". A family that I havent seen in over a year. And followed it up with "I will just tell my mom she isnt welcome here anymore so you can get your way, per usual". So I said "good" and walked away. In the past 3 days we have not spoken. He has not spoken to my family, even when they try to talk to him (they all love and get along with him well - or did, up until now I guess). My mom has even asked me if he is alright or if he is also suffering from some form of PPD. So, I told my husband last night that if he can't act civil than he can go stay with his mother until my family leaves, because I am not going to be made to feel guilty for wanting to spend time with my family over a woman who consistently disrespects me. He didnt respond and went to bed (complete silent treatment). I am considering leaving him over this (again, maybe PPD/PPR, I dont know). AITA here at all? Update: I just wanted to give a little update on the past 2 days for those that are following this post. My family left last night and no, I did not go with them. Main reason being that I truly did not want my newborn on a plane, as the idea brings me far too much anxiety. However, I did speak to my husband. I told him that all of this was unacceptable. His silent treatments, him walking all over my boundaries AND him allowing his mother near me after all she had done. I told him if we couldn't find a compromise than I would be forced to look in to other living arrangements because I cannot handle his toxicity when I am healing. He deflected quite a bit in the beginning, asking why my boundaries are important but his are not. I asked what he meant and he said he apparently didnt want my family here around the baby because they "could have gotten her sick but instead of thinking about that or how I felt, you just did whatever you wanted". He never once told me he didnt want my family here - so, I told him that if he expects me to crawl up his ass to read his mind than he is sorely mistaken and maybe he should try focusing on his communication skills. This obviously led to yet another fight, with him saying he can't stand me and accusing me of "finding reasons" to take our daughter from him. I did not respond to this. I admittedly just stared at him and he just kept talking and venting and finally, crying. He said he has never felt so empty before and that every time he tries to help, he fucks it up and every time he thinks everything will be okay, something goes wrong. He says he has been bottling everything up so he doesnt dump it on me because he doesnt want to make things worse but that he is drowning with this new weight of extreme responsibility and said he doesnt know how to keep me happy when he isnt happy. He said he fears that I now just have something to hold over his head and take from him, just like everyone else in his life has done. And so, so much more. I didnt say anything. I just let him speak, because he finally was. And when he was done, I held him, and he cried some more. When all was calmed down I told him that I wasnt trying to take the baby from him, and that I would truly never do that. But I was also firm in saying that while I completely empathize and love that he finally spoke, that I cannot let my own boundaries be trampled anymore and that his mother cannot come back here. If he wants to see her, he needs to go to her. He just nodded and said "okay". I cant say right now whether he will actually stick to that. And we didnt talk beyond that either. Instead, he made dinner. He served me my plate and he spoon fed me while I was nursing the baby. This will be a long road. And I cant see the end of the tunnel right now, but maybe I will soon. Thank you everyone for taking your time to go on this journey with me, and pray for me. Much love ❤️ submitted by /u/Low-Cattle-4988 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

My MIL put her hands on me and physically restrained me when I tried to take my baby home
Possible TW for violence and attempted abduction (kind of?) Title. She and my FIL had been watching my 13 week old for a couple days while I was recovering from a bad upper respiratory infection (it was bad enough to send me to the ER with my oxygen dropping into the low 80s). When I went to get her without my husband my MIL decided to get on my case about my daughter being gassy. This has been an ongoing thing with them and I've told them multiple times that not every cry with her is gas and that the pediatrician says she's fine. For whatever reason she and FIL are obsessed with thinking it's gas and trying to "fix" it. The latest attempt was secretly buying a different kind of bottle to use (I always provided bottles when they watched her) because they were advertised as good for colicky babies (which my daughter is not). My MIL refused to listen when I was explaining that the bottle had nothing to do with it and she kept saying that some random nurses she knew recommended them. I had enough of the conversation and said as much and told my FIL to put my daughter in her carseat so I could leave. MIL said no and I repeated to give me my damn child. MIL then got in my face screaming that I can't talk like that in her house and my baby of course starts screaming. I try to go comfort her and MIL tells FIL to take her to another room and grabs my arm, holding me back and not letting me get my child. I tried to get her off me but she kept holding me. She had grabbed me hard enough to bruise my inner arm. I threatened to call the cops on her for effectively kidnapping my child at that point. She screamed that if I did she would have me put on a 72 hour hold. She then shoved me in the corner of the room so I still couldn't get my daughter and began berating me. She screamed that I was ungrateful for all they do, that I apparently look down on her, that I don't trust them to care for my daughter, and that because of me MIL supposedly now has anxiety and blood pressure issues that she needs medication for. By this point I'm bawling and just wanting my daughter. MIL continued to berate me and keep me from my daughter until she (MIL) had calmed down and then she let my FIL put her in the carseat and let me take her. MIL then did a complete 180 and started trying to make small talk like none of that just happened. Then she tried to say that she was just protecting my daughter because she didn't want me driving off too fast with her because I was frustrated with them. I told her I'd never put my daughter in harm's way like that and left. My husband doesn't know what to make of the situation. I told him I don't want to be around MIL and our daughter will not be either. I don't care that they were our only childcare help right now. I don't feel safe around her and I don't trust her to keep ky daughter safe if she's this mentally unstable. My husband is supporting my decision. He hasn't talked to his mom since and is trying to find a time to talk with her about her behavior and the consequences. It just sucks that this came out of nowhere with her. As I said they were our help. My family are all 2+ hours away. At this point I don't know if I'll ever let her see my daughter again. I know if my husband goes no contact permanently she'll flip shit. From the start she called him her "little ride or die" and told me that whatever I do, don't try and come between them. If I asked him to do it to protect our daughter he would in a heartbeat. Is it crazy of me to want to ask him if we can move closer to my family? Edit: Since I can't reply to everyone. With the police report there's an extra layer of concern that was too much to type for the original text. They are best friends with the sheriff for their county (which the incident happened in). So if I file a report there's almost no way he won't find out about it and I don't trust that he won't contact my MIL. Even if I report it with my local agency, they'd have to forward the report. And with our last name (it's distinct and recognizable) the officers for that department would definitely know who it was about and I'm worried with small town gossip that things would get back to MIL submitted by /u/Brisknees96 to r/JUSTNOMIL [link] [comments]

AITAH for yelling at my brother's ex's daughter for hurting my niece (intentionally)
For more context, I am 22, my brother is 33, and his ex's daughter is 11. 12 years ago, he had an on and off relationship with this woman, (we'll call her) Paula. Paula was always a disrespectful person to where our mother told him she genuinely was not allowed in our house, due to Paula calling our mother out her name several times. She cheated on my brother, admitted it, and ended up having a baby by the man she cheated on him with, but chose to stay with my brother because my brother was a "family man," and he got back together with her. Now, her daughter is growing up to act like her. Disobedient, dishonest, cursing classmates/teachers out, flips off the police and finds pleasure in making others cry. She's already been kicked out of kindergarten, 1st-3rd grade and now she is homeschooled because she could not keep her hands to herself, and instead of correcting her, Paula would curse out the school it. It would fall on my brother, because every time she was in trouble, Paula would drop her daughter off with my brother and disappear, not answering her phone til she decides to come pick her up. My brother finds no issue in this. Paula's daughter is now 11, and my brother & Paula separated about 5-6 years ago, but they're still coparenting PAULA's daughter. Now my brother finally had his FIRST BLOOD child, my niece, who I absolutely fell in love with. (The mother of my niece is cordial with my brother, but they broke up shortly before my niece was born) As every first auntie says about their niece/nephew, that's MY baby. She is 10 months old as of 2 weeks ago and is already starting to walk, but when I came over his house to see her, Paula's daughter was there. Every time I tried playing with my niece, or if my niece got too giggly or happy, Paula's daughter would come running to the living room and mess with her by pushing her feet apart, making my niece lose her balance, slamming my niece's fingers in between books "by accident", swinging my niece by her arms when she's trying to practice walking or will pick her up and spin her around really fast. Eventually, my niece began being overstimulated, and began crying and fussing. I asked my brother if there was any way he could calm Paula's daughter down. This little girl heard that, and immediately got in my face, and yelled "NO!" I guess she thought it was cute, because she immediately started giggling and continued messing with my niece. Now, I look at my brother's again so he can correct it, and he did not. I let it go, up until it was time for my niece to eat, and she snatched the bottle from my niece's mouth, and dangled it over her so she couldn't reach it, making her scream and cry since she was already tired. I lost it. I screamed at the little girl to go to leave her alone, and her room, and it seems like that's the first time she's ever been yelled at or disciplined, cause she ran to her room, slammed her door and started screaming and throwing things in her room, kicking the door and making some weird noises? Now my brother's mad at me, because I should've held my tongue, and let her "be a kid." She's 11 with no social life, and never got corrected for anything so I don't blame her. I blame my brother and her mother who did not get it fixed at a young age. If she does this in FRONT of me, I'm scared about what happens behind closed doors. Now my brother is telling my dad and mom what happened. My dad agrees with him saying I should've held my tounge, but that he understands that I'm just a protective auntie. My mom doesn't think I'm wrong at all. I know he probably told Paula, so I'm just waiting on a call right now from her, telling me how much of a "bad influence" I am. AITAH? Note: I do understand that me yelling at a child is what makes me a bad person, but Jesus. Who's gonna sit there and watch their niece who isn't even 1 yet get treated like that without her dad stepping in? Was i overstepping? submitted by /u/Ok-Imagination2620 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITAH for telling husband he can leave me and our newborn and it wouldnt impact our lives
My husband (32m) and I (29f) have been disagreeing lately about childcare for when I need to return to work full time. He wants to rely on his parents and my mom to watch our son (3months) and I want to enroll him in an infant program at a daycare. I do not want his parents to watch our son for many reasons but the biggest being his parents aren't capable of watching a newborn for 9 hours and the fact that they refuse to follow the updated safety guidelines for prevention of SIDS. Everytime I tell them updated information different from how they did it 30 years ago I get comments like "my kids would be dead 100 times over nowadays with what I did" or "you're letting these guidelines drive you crazy" because I dont want my son to suffocate due to a blanket or bumpers being in/on his bassinet. To put it in perspective my in laws have issues with their other DIL as well due to how they treat people around them. I could go on about the issues the inlaws and I have had in the past but I don't want this post to be so so long. Let's just say his parents purposely cross boundaries at the expense of other to get what they want. Anyways the arguement between my husband and I got very heated the other night as I was preparing my son's bath on the kitchen counter. As I was finished filling it with water my husband was so upset with our disagreement that he took the bath and flipped it over. Resulting in water being all over our kitchen and dinning room hardwood floors and table. I told his to get the f out of the house and to not come near me or our son (I was baby wearing him at the time). He kept trying to come near me to the point I left through the backdoor with my son and tried to get in my car to drive away but my husband stood behind my car so I couldn't leave so I just walked away from the house instead so I could feel safe with our son. Eventually I needed to come back in order to feed our son a bottle. My husband was attempting to clean up the gallons of water he spilled on the floor and all over the documents I had on the table (floors, basement ceiling and documents ended up damaged). He said he would finish cleaning up and then leave the house. He left around midnight and didnt come back until 8pm the next day. Sadly this isn't the first time my husband has acted out of anger. While I was pregnant he punched a hole in our hallway and then grabbed me resulting in my shift being ripped. He also has knocked my possessions off countertops resulting in things I cannot replace being broken. He always apologizes and says he will do better but I no longer have hope for him. When he came back the other night we continued the conversation about childcare and somehow got on the topic of another future baby. Which I said I potentially did not want another child due to the traumatic birth of our son (Im less than 3 months postpartum during this conversation). My husband then threatened to divorce me and go have a baby with someone else because his son will not be an only child. I flat out told him to file the paperwork without any emotion. I told him it wouldnt make a difference if he was here or not considering he left for almost 24 hours without any communication and I can manage it all on my own. Do I want our son to have divorced parents, no I don't, but I also dont want him to grow up around a father who acts out of anger and aggression. I just feel like I've been through enough with him and for him to now threaten divorce over childcare and potentially not having another baby is absurd in my mind. I know during our arguements I can say nasty things but I never threatened divorce. Now a few days later we are trying to continue talking about childcare but my trust for him and his parents is almost non existent due to his actions and words. I'm starting to feel like I am the A-hole because I said that him leaving wouldnt make a difference. Like deep down I do not want him to leave. But then I think about how mid typing this I had to stop to go take out the garbage (its 5am) before collection even though he said he did it before he went to bed. I just sometimes think he purposely is incompetent so I just do everything. He says I wont have to coordinate with our parents on whose watching our son when during the week and he would do it. But ik that wont happen and I will have to end up doing it. I just dont need the extra stress and rather have something consistent. I just dont know what to do or if I am an A-hole for not wanting this life as it is right now for our son. Any advice or words of wisdom are welcome. submitted by /u/Alone-Marriedwife14 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITA giving my nephew pizza bagels
My husband (M40s) and I (M40s) are hosting my sister (F40s) as well as her husband/my BIL and their two kids A (toddler) and B (M12). Since they don’t have a lot of time alone and also can’t afford to take many vacations my husband and I put them up in a hotel for 2 days/1 night they’re here so that they can have some alone time without the kids. My husband and I don’t have any kids but we’re perfectly capable of taking care of the kids for a couple days solo. The toddler was pretty easy. Maybe she’s not a toddler yet and she’s still an infant, I’m not sure of the specific distinction but she ate baby food and bottles and some puffed cereal stuff provided by my sis. The problem came with feeding my nephew B. For dinner we made a tossed salad together. Everyone helped out with chopping vegetables, it was great. Then we made pizza bagels for the main. We had a great low-key dinner with our salads and bagel bites and we “camped out” in the TV room watching a movie until B fell asleep. In my mind I thought it was a great evening. Well my sister and BIL come back home from the hotel and we’re chatting in the kitchen when she notices the pizza bagel box sitting in the recycling. She said “you eat pizza bagels?” And I said “well not usually but we made them last night with B.” WELL she FLIPPED out on me for feeding B such a “garbage snack.” That’s when I said whoa we made a nice chopped salad to go along with it, and then she flipped out MORE for the fact that this was not merely a snack but our dinner. I told her people have pizza and salad for dinner all the time what’s wrong with this? It was fun and easy. She told me that now I’m going to have B obsessed with junk food and that “if I had known this was going to happen I never would have trusted you with taking care of them, you’re not a parent and it shows” which honestly just felt like a low blow. My BIL apologized to me in private but my sister is still acting cold. submitted by /u/Born-Balance9568 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Husband just flipped out because I dared to let baby cry for 3 minutes when she was hungry
He's holding our 9 week old daughter, she wakes up and starts rooting. I'm a few feet away washing some bottles when he calls over to me that she's hungry. My response is "Ok. She'll be fine for a few." I finishing rinsing off and drying the Haakaa, it's been a couple minutes at most but baby girl is now crying. I'm not worried, I know that she's fine waiting a couple minutes for her meal - even if she's crying. Then I make the very grave mistake of taking my vitamins instead of rushing to our baby. Swallowing my vitamins has now delayed me a whole 30 seconds longer. I sit down and start BFing our girl and my husband flips out on me. Tells me what was I thinking making her wait, why would I do that?? If I was in boiling water would I want out right then or two minutes later?? He goes on and on grilling me that I'm so selfish for letting her cry when I could have chosen to just stop "doing my nails, doing my hair" and come to feed her, and on and on. Meanwhile I'm just a captive audience, sitting their feeding our baby and honestly trying not to laugh in his face out of frustration and also how silly the whole thing is. The fact that this man cannot handle the stress of our crying baby for a few minutes is just bewildering to me. Am I crazy to let baby girl cry for a few minutes?? submitted by /u/FridaMercury to r/beyondthebump [link] [comments]

AITA For being honest that my dad made me pay for my own art lessons as a kid, which is now causing him to be made fun of at work and lose some of his work friends?
I’m a (15F). My mom and dad divorced when I was a baby. I spend most of my time with my mom and every other weekend with my dad. When I was in elementary/middle school, I went to an art class hosted by Mrs. Anny on Saturdays. In 4th grade, I asked my dad if I could go on his weekends too, and he told me that if I wanted to go on his weekends, then I would need to cover both the cost of each lesson ($12 for 4 hours) plus $5 to contribute towards the DirectTV recording feature since he had to miss his TV shows to take me. I was able to go three times on his days using money I had saved from holidays. I told my mom that I was sad because I didn’t have any more money left to be able to go to Mrs. Anny’s on dad’s weekend. My mom didn’t realize dad was making me pay for my own lessons and flipped out at him. From then on, she would pick me up on his Saturdays for art class. We haven’t had time to go Mrs. Anny’s since I got into high school, but I still do art and go to online lessons whenever I have the chance. Dad had a party at the house with a bunch of people from his work. I thanked him for dinner. He said he wanted me to stay at the table and talk to his work friends, but I told him that I needed to finish a school project and went to my room. Later one of dad’s works friends came up to me and told me that I should have done what my dad wanted me to and I should have more gratitude towards my dad because on top of raising and supporting me he’s the reason why I’m an amazing artist. Dad showed his work friends my art and said that I was an amazing artist because of him and all the expensive art lessons that he paid for. I told the work friend that my dad has never paid for any of my art lessons, and how when I was a 4th grader he refused to take me to art lessons unless I paid the $12 fee myself and gave him $5 to contribute to the DirectTV recording feature. His friend apologized for the misunderstanding and I forgot about it until dad started lecturing me last week. The work friend told all the other coworkers that dad never paid for my art lessons and tried making me pay for them. Some of his coworkers now only talk to him for business reasons, but most of them are making fun of him and saying stuff like “Ah, that’s so expensive! But we can have OP save up her lunch money so she can cover it, right Daniel? (my dad)” My grandma and dad’s girlfriend agree with dad because I’m not owed art lessons and me being “bitter” about it is no reason to try and mess up his work reputation with what I said. My mom and stepdad said that I did nothing wrong and Daniel shouldn’t have told lies in the first place. My sister Tori said my dad deserved to be embarrassed anyway. (Tori hasn’t talked to dad in a long time.) So now I’m conflicted about if I should have said what I did to dad’s work friend. Edited for clarity: Dad's coworker came up to me while I was refilling my water bottle in the kitchen/living room area. It felt weird that he said anything at all to me, but he never came into my room. submitted by /u/Cuperitta-Cake to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for telling my cousin to stop waking me up to watch her baby?
My cousin (27F) and her daughter (1F) have been living in my(24F) house since the child was 8 months old. It's a temporary arrangement due to monetary issues on her side after having the baby and is set to end in March when she would be ready to find an apartment on her own. We both work from home and while I'm mostly taking care of everything, she chips in whenever she can. I study part time for 3 hours a day and can't leave all the chores to her so we split chores. By the time I actually get to work, it's usually evening. I'm an author so it's okay as long as I get it done within the deadlines. So we have been okay and all BUT she has a tendency of waking me up at random. She knows that I often write late into the night and sleep at 1-3 am, wake up at 9-11am just in time for my online class. However, she still wakes me up at any time for reasons like watching the kid for a few minutes while she goes to pee, take a shower, etc. I understand that my niece likes to crawl away and might fall off from the bed if she leaves her there or crawl into kitchen/bathroom but it really is affecting my sleep. I can't go back to sleep easily after a distraction and she knows this. There are mornings when I end up waking up at 7 with swollen eyes and a headache from not having enough sleep and become less productive all day, have to take coffee to stay up and write, go to sleep at later than 3am, repeat. The day before yesterday she woke me up at 5 to watch the baby so she would prepare for her early morning. I could barely keep awake but I positioned the child where she couldn't crawl past me. She woke me up again before going to the home office to tell me that she would have headphones on and if the baby woke up again, I should give her a bottle. I had barely slept a wink when I felt the tapping on my shoulder again. At this point I was irritated and when she told me that she wanted me to check out what she was cooking, I almost flipped out on her. I I spoke to her about it in the evening and told her I would appreciate it if she didn't wake me up unless she really had to because of the reasons I stated above. I thought she would understand but she was mad at me. This morning I was watching tiktok on my phone with earplugs in and she was cleaning my room. I think the baby followed her in. She put her at the foot of my bed without saying a word and continued cleaning. I didn't know the baby was even awake and didn't register her presence until I heard a bang and a wail. I was shocked and after the baby calmed down, I asked her why she didn't tell me that baby was there. Her response was "You don't want to be woken up for her so..." She has ignored me since then and won't even tell me when she needs anything and won't let the baby crawl to me to play because "She will bother people" I really didn't realize that my confrontation would make her feel that way. So AITA? ETA. About her cleaning my room, that's the arrangement decided on. If it's my cleaning day, I clean everywhere and everything and if it's hers, she does the same thing. Same goes for cooking days and laundry days, etc submitted by /u/KeiraPierre to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for taking my nephew back to my sister’s husband after she left him with me?

Update retrieved from site similar to https://redditsearch.io ORIGINAL: AITA for taking my nephew back to my sister’s husband after she left him with me? : AmItheAsshole (reddit.com) My sister had her baby 6 months ago and this morning she brought him to my apartment. It was 10 am and I (19M) was half asleep. She asked me if I could watch him really quick cause she had some stuff to do and call her if anything. He was asleep so I said ok. But he woke up 20 mins later crying. I gave him his bottle and he was calm for a bit but started crying again. Idk what to do with babies so I call my sister. She says she still stuck running errands but she’ll try to be there soon. When I asked if Ted -her husband- could come get him she said to leave him alone cause he’s busy with work at the house. Literally an hour later and he still screaming his head off. I tried looking up how to calm him down so I’m rocking him, tryna play on the floor or showing him my phone but nothing. He wasn’t havin it. I call my sister two more times. First time she tells me to give him his bottle which I already did and says she’ll be soon. Second time she tells me to relax and is almost done. Called her again 40 mins later but this time it goes to voicemail. Then I started to smell something bad and it was because my nephew shit in his diaper. Smell was awful and I said “hell no” cause I do not have it in me to change a shitty diaper and nothing I did was making him stop crying. He was red in the face from crying all this time. I txted my sister telling her I was gonna take him to their house but didn’t get a reply. Ted was confused when I got there. I told him my sister said she had stuff to do and left him with me but my nephew wouldn’t stop crying, he has a dirty diaper and my sis won’t answer me. Guys he was so pissed off. He took my nephew and told me thank you for bringing him back. That was it and when I got back home my sister was calling me. She was flipping out asking why tf I took the baby back to their house when she told me not to. It’s cause she told Ted she was taking my nephew to her friend’s house to have breakfast so her friend could see him and now he’s mad at her because obviously she didn’t do that. My parents told me they in the middle of a huge fight and I should’ve stayed out of it and babysat my nephew. Idk what’s going on. All I know is Ted not talking to her. My sister called me a couple of times to tell me stuff and she can’t believe I was such a shit brother that I couldn’t do one simple favor for her when she needed it. Now I’m feeling bad and idk if I should’ve done different. Was I an asshole for taking my nephew back instead of waiting for her to show up? Edit: since some of u are focused on the dirty diaper thing. Yeah it makes me sick and wanna puke just seeing my sister do it. Not gonna have kids cause I’m not built for that stuff and wasn’t gonna even try it with him Also he wasn’t with the dirty diaper that whole time. Less than 15 mins because soon as I knew it was a dirty diaper I drove him to their house. He definitely wasn’t dirty before that because he was making a face when he did go and that’s when the bad smell came. Judgement: NTA, with most comments suggesting OP's sister was having an affair. UPDATE: Reddit Search (camas.github.io) Mods didn’t let me post this on AITA so just gonna post anyways. I was debating on if I should even say anything but I mean y’all were having ideas before and not like anyone in my family knows bout Reddit anyways so I thought fuck it. Since most of y’all wanted an update. Shit has been pretty messed up. I don’t have too many details on what went down becuz all this I heard from my parents but basically ur guess were right. Idk for how long or what but she defo wasn’t going to see who she told Ted she was. if she was gunna do that shit idk y she’d leave me to take care of my nephew acting like she’ll b back quick when obviously she probably knew she’d take forever. It’s not looking good and Ted’s staying at his moms only coming to pick up my nephew from my parents house during the day after sis drops him off there. My parents did say sorry to me tho. They didn’t know what she was up to and my dads the one most mad at her. Hard not to feel like I fucked shit up specially when she sent me a long ass text the other day on how their lives r ruined and my nephew won’t have a stable home after this so she hopes I’m happy for stirring this up instead of giving her a break. That hit me but u kno whag that’s not my guilty to carry and that’s her own fault. She hasn’t talked to me at all since so it’s hard not to feel like that relationships ruined now. But yeah I’m not sure what’s gonna happen that’s all the update I got right now. Everyone wanted to know & tbh I wanted to know to. Shit I didn’t think this was all gunna come out. It’s crazy Thanks y’all for being there explaining why I wasn’t TA. Also offering ur advice on how to deal with it mentally when shit hit the fan. Made it a lot easier dealing with stuff just reminding myself this was all on her. Came back sometimes to read some of the comments whenever I feel it coming down on me so for sure it’s helped. And for the commenters that were weirdly too fixated on the not wanting to change a diaper like it’s a life skill everyone should know.... I’m still not gonna lol 🤷🏻‍♂️ If u can then cool, u can change a shitty diaper. Not having kids anyways and not babysitting again after this. Lesson. Learned. Please note: this is a repost. AITA for turning off the wifi when my husband camps in the bathroom for extended lengths of time.
My husband and I are the parents of twins who are less than a year old. Anytime my husband SHOULD be doing something with the children ( it's his turn for a diaper, a bottle, even just soothing a fussy newborn) he ALWAYS goes to the bathroom first. We are both on maternity / paternity leave currently. My husband is on medication that makes him spend a lot of time in the bathroom about an hour after a meal. It's a medication he has been on and off several times over the past year. He is never on it for more than a few weeks, and it does not effect him all the time, but he always claims that is why he is in the bathroom. ( I did ask, the doctor didnt say it was impossible, but highly unlikely. Doc wanted him to come in for a checkup if this was the case and husband said oh it's not THAT bad and refuses to go in ) I would rather let him use the restroom first than have to put down a baby mid task, but over the past couple months he has been spending more and more time in there. He always takes his phone. He is always watching youtube. His average session is 25 minutes in there, often longer, rarely shorter. It's the most frustrating when it comes time to feed them ( one of the twins needs to be held specifically for health reasons, so I can not double feed ) because we will get up, I will warm up bottles, change one baby bum, get the first one fed, burped, and laid down in their crib, get the other baby changed and be setteling down to feed baby number two before he can be bothered to emerge and figure out why one child has been screaming because they had to watch their sibling eat l, and then the other when cry when they dont get to cuddle at all because I have to immediately set them down to feed the hysterically sobbing child. Yesterday was a week and a half sence I started truly keeping track, and he, only twice in 10 days, not ditched me to go camp out in the bathroom and let me finish %80 of the childcare. Today I started a new rule. If he is in the bathroom for more than 10 minutes, I flip the wifi off. He has not spend more than 15 minutes in the bathroom at a stretch today, but is extremely upset. I feel like the fact that without the wifi his uncontrollable toilet issue cleared up rather quickly proves why it needs to be done, but he feels I am being unreasonable, and I need to make sure sleep deprivation isnt makeing me an asshole. TLDR: AITA for turning off the wifi when my husband is in the bathroom for extended periods of time, avoiding domestic and fatherly duties. Edit: to answer questions that people have been asking. Yes, I have talked to him about this. 10 days ago we had a conversation about the situation, and he denied how long hes been spending in the bathroom. This conversation is also the one where I proposed he see a doctor. Yes he has down time. He spends a good deal of time working on his car and plahs diablo about 8 hours straight every day. He spends most of his time on the other side of the house on his PC in his office. submitted by /u/FinalWintersEve to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

*Rant* If one more person responds with "Wait until the baby gets here!" when I complain I'm tired I'm going to fucking flip.
Hey ladies, I know there was a similar post last week but I need to rant to someone and my mom has taken enough from me lol. I'm currently 37w4d and am so ready to not be pregnant anymore. I've had the most awesome unicorn pregnancy and really really shouldn't be complaining but I'm tired so I'm bitchy. Up until last week I'd have days where I was fatigued but since last Thursday I've been in a stupor that I just can't seem to get out of. I nap like 2 times a day and still feel exhausted. Luckily I am getting sleep so its not insomnia but I'm just tired all the time. But when people ask me and I tell them I get the same fucking response every. single. time. "You think you're tired now? Wait until the baby gets here!!" I just want to scream!! The worst is people who don't even have kids who say this to me. Like excuse me, fuck you, don't sound so fucking knowledgeable about the subject if you've never even lived through it. I know everything is going to change when the baby gets here. I'm enjoying my alone-ness to the max because I know those days are numbered. I know that I probably don't even realize what lack of sleep means because I haven't had this kid yet (although not entirely true because I have made it through BASIC training in the military when they sleep deprive you on purpose). But I also know what tiredness feels like right now and if you are being caring enough to ask me how I'm doing then please don't respond with "wait until the baby gets here!" Like, oh really? This is going to get worse? I'm almost 9 months pregnant, I never realized its going to mean loosing sleep. Thank you kind stranger for letting me know, how come no one else has mentioned this to me over the last 9 months? How come I didn't realize this on my own..? thank you so much for letting me know how shitty its going to be when the baby finally gets here!!!!!! Sorry. End Rant. submitted by /u/likeflyingakite to r/BabyBumps [link] [comments]
