UPDATE: AITAH for telling my wife our baby can’t go to her moms
Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AITAH/s/sGb33rx3CX Well, it’s been a little more than two days since the post, and things have only gotten worse. Firstly I’d like to thank everyone for all the comments, and suggestions. It really helped me during this. So what’s happened? A whole lot of her not talking to me, led to a small fight last night. (I know it was Mother’s Day, I’ll get to that.) I came home from work, and put on a good face. I said happy Mother’s Day again, I asked if she had a good day, asked about the gift etc. Everything was cool until it was time for dinner. For a little additional context here, I do, and I mean this literally, all of the cooking and cleaning. She will put her own clothes away, and wash the babies dishes specifically when asked, other than that I’m on my own. It’s never not been a problem, but it’s also something that I’ve never felt comfortable ending things over. Well last night I got home, and everything was a fucking mess. It was like she just let the baby run through the house and throw things every which way, and picked up nothing. This in and of itself is not totally abnormal, but the level today was completely different than others. I ignored it at first, as I knew I needed to start making dinner ASAP because she told me she forgot to feed the baby lunch, and he was getting hangry. This immediately was like, wtf do you mean you didn’t feed the baby lunch? So I went to start cooking and realized we were out of the base for the meal I was making. I asked if she’d rather stay home or go to the store to have a minute to herself. She went to the store, I gave baby a shower. When I got him in the shower, immediately I could smell something weird. Under his neck appeared to be dry milk. The child drinks too fast, and sometimes it spills out of his mouth. We’ve always known this since he started in sippy cups, and I always wipe his face/neck off after a bottle to prevent this. Well I guess she had never thought to do that. So between these three things, I was a little upset when she got home. I wasn’t taking it out on her in anyway, I was just more quiet, and doing my cooking. She eventually asked me if the baby upset me while she was gone, and I said yes for the sake of saving face (again, it was Mother’s Day). Give it about 5 minutes of us not really talking, and she says to me, why are you so pissed off at the baby. Now I’m faced with a decision, do I try and fabricate some story as to why I’m mad at my child, or do I tell her the truth. I went with the latter. I won’t get fully into specifics, but I told her my problems. She cried, and said she would do better. I reminded her that we’ve been here before (her saying she’ll do better about these exact things) and she cried harder. I think it’s finally setting in for her that I’m serious, and that this may end up with us not together. I know she loves me, but I question greatly if she respects me. It’s become a growing trend in our relationship over the past 3-4 years, and I’m finally becoming aware of it in the last 6 months or so. As far as the situation with her moms, I found out last night that she hadn’t even told her yet. So now I’m stuck in this weird holding pattern of waiting for the other shoe to drop. I know there’s going to be backlash, and I’m prepared to weather that storm, but the waiting for it to happen is starting to really spark my anxiety. I’m considering telling her mother myself, as it was my decision, but I know my wife will feel undercut by this. It’s the last form of control she has over the situation. I’d love some advice on how to handle that if anyone’s got some. Anywho, thank you all again. The advice in the first post really helped. Edit: yes she’s been treated for PPD. She’s not currently because it cleared up. Yes I understand this could be another trigger. No I’m not opposed to her getting treatment, it’s just been less than a week. Edit 2: it is not possible for me to arrange childcare for the days I’m at work. Financially we don’t have the means, and I don’t have family in the area. Edit 3: I have to put the baby to sleep, and go to sleep for work myself. I will answer more comments in the morning, and will probably have another update post tomorrow as these comments have really forced my eyes open about what’s really going on here. Than you for the tough love. Edit 4: Wife has called and made an appointment to be seen for PPD again. Tomorrow at 1230. So for everyone telling me I need to do it because she can’t, or depression doesn’t work like that, she did it. Edit 5: commenting Updateme isn’t going to do anything, as unfortunately you can only post one update here. If/when the next update comes, it will be in Reddit updates. I’ll update this post with a link, otherwise you’ll just have to track it down. I may unlock my post history to show this and that sub so it’s more easily accessible for those trying to follow the events. This is probably the last edit on this post other than that, so I’d like to thank everyone again for the comments. Some people are really giving me a hard time, and while I don’t agree with something’s being said, I need to hear it to keep myself from getting deterred submitted by /u/Oploplou to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

My wife ordered a baby clothes quilt.
My wife found a local retired seamstress on Facebook and asked for a quilt made from our two kids baby clothes, sleep sacks, and blankets. The seamstress had creative freedom on patterns. We absolutely adore this quilt and my wife says she wants more. At $300 I think it was an absolute steal. submitted by /u/Rehtycs to r/daddit [link] [comments]

My school used these atrocious posters for autism awareness spirit week
And they used the highly controversial puzzle piece and blue for autism as well as forgetting to hide ChatGPT in the file name 🤦‍♂️ (Context: my school treats autistic people like infants or they’re just straight up dumb, and bombards them with baby shows in the special classes, yes, even the high functioning people) (My school is in the part of the South that gets very hot in the spring and summer) Edit: My school has doubled down on the symbols and calls it an “inspiring symbol to autism”, they even have the halls with the special education classes covered in puzzle pieces, blue colored puzzle pieces, and more AI slop (my friend did make a poster for the hall, but they used the infinity symbol and drew it themselves). They even mentioned Autism Speaks as a “credible source” 🫩 submitted by /u/titleguy2004 to r/aislop [link] [comments]

If you have an average sized baby… how do carters clothes fit?
I’ve heard frequently that carters clothing is one of the more accurate brands in terms of sizing for babies. I’ve primarily been buying carters because that is what is around us and I love the patterns and styles. The woman working at the store today has me worried now about the sizing… she said that 3m at carters generally fits up to 1m old babies and 6m will fit up to 3m, 12m will be for a 6 month old… I’ve never heard this before. If your baby is average sized, how has your experience been with their sizing? Thanks! submitted by /u/devinjf15 to r/BabyBumps [link] [comments]

[Loved Trope] Animals that have evolved specifically for humans
This specifically refers to an entire species of animal that has evolved to have some kind of trait or mechanism based around interaction with humans. SCP-939, from the SCP Series is a species of pack animals with the ability to mimic the voices of its previous prey, it uses this as a way to lure in more prey. It will often mimic the voices of people in distress. The Mimic from the Vita Carnis Series is a variation of a species of animal that takes a human like form. It takes this form as a way to camouflage itself to get closer to prey. It will wear clothes, stalk people to learn their routines, and can vocalize as ways to hunt prey. 3 & 4. Two examples from the work of Valdevia, a wonderful artist that I recommend to anyone who enjoys horror media. He has a large number of creatures that fit this trope, but I only picked two here. The first is the The Ghost Buckeye (Junonia prosopon), which has evolved a wing pattern to mimic a human face as a way to specifically to ward off humans. The second is The Luretail Viper (Crotalus neonatus) which is a species of snake that can mimic the look and sound of a baby in distress to attract prey. 5 & 6. I wanted to show two examples that weren't horror themed. The first is a real life example, dogs, or more generally domestication. It's been observed in multiple different species of animals that as they are tamed by humans, they develop specific features that we find more endearing such as floppy ears, larger eyes, and smaller teeth. The media example I could think of is in Pokémon, though this is more of a fan theory, that Pidove has evolved to have larger eyes, a puffier chest, and heart shaped features to look cuter. Pidoves environment are cities, so being cuter means that there is amore likely chance of people give it food. submitted by /u/TurntechGodhead0 to r/TopCharacterTropes [link] [comments]

Hello everyone! My son just shared the greatest news that we are going to be grandparents! I want to retire, dust off my sewing machine and serger, and start making clothes for my granddaughter.

Need help with baby clothes quilt design
Hello! I am not a quilter but have decided to try to make a quilt from my daughters baby clothes. I am really struggling with how to arrange the squares…please help! I have tried a bunch of different things and here are some of the options. I’m not sure if I should do a very organized pattern or something more random or something completely different. Any advice is much appreciated😊 submitted by /u/Cautious_Tie1285 to r/quilting [link] [comments]

State of the Subreddit and Rules Discussion
Hi all!! This is a discussion post, we would like constructive discussion, free of name calling and meanness directed at anyone, including the mods. We are humans that are trying their best. We have a few things to address here so let's get into it. First off we'd like to say this sub is large, 2 million people large! Some perspective would be, the super bowl has an 80,000 seating capacity. Without rules and moderation it will become an unpleasant place to be. When the sub was still small we conducted surveys to help decide which way the sub should go re rules and moderation. All of the rules in place have been the same for years except for the recently changed no self promotion rule and some updates to stale topics. Surveys do not gain the required traction that they did when the sub was smaller. In view of that we have tried to keep the sub to the rules that were favoured in the past surveys. We also look for trends and make decisions based on what we see across the sub overall. This post is addressing the main complaints and concerns we have seen over the last week (and before that) for clarity and discussion. There seems to be some confusion about what you can and can't post. So much of what you guys were posting during "chaos week" is actually allowed. There are no restrictions on posting finished objects or work in progress pics! Mr Nipples is featured in our wiki! You can post pictures of your crochet bongs and genitals (we ask these are marked as nsfw). We want to see it all, cursed to amazing! Fursday Friends. A lot of the pet pictures that were being posted during “chaos week” can also be posted any day of the week!! If the item is for your pet/baby and is clearly visible there is no need to wait until Thursdays. If it's a cute picture of your pet/baby falling asleep or somehow interfering with your project (pets laying smack in the middle of your FO pictures) then that's what belongs on Thursdays. Those posts are more focused on the pet/baby than the actual crochet work. If you want to post pets whenever something cute happens, check out the pet focused crochet subs, r/catswhocrochet, r/kitting and r/dogswhocrochet. Fursday Friends spans 2 days when taking all time zones into account. We highly recommend that people blur or put an emoji over minors faces!! Stash Saturday. Our other "day of the week" post is Stash Saturday. This one is for stash pics (obviously), "what can I make with this yarn" queries, yarn discussion and other tools (hooks) and books. This rule was voted in as we had feedback that there were too many pictures of just yarn/hooks. This also is all time zones so is really 2 days that you can post over. Crochet for all levels! We’ve seen a lot of comments saying that r/crochet is not beginner friendly. We absolutely welcome new crocheters but ask that questions be asked in our sister sub r/CrochetHelp . On crochet they tend to be buried and remain unanswered. We see people saying that they don't want to ask on a smaller sub because not as many people will see it. While that might be true the interaction rate on CrochetHelp is a lot higher on these types of posts and the people that are on CrochetHelp are there because they want to help. NSFW! We admit that in the past, we were a little overzealous with the tags. We truly were not meaning to offend or censor women's bodies and we apologise. We have been taking a lighter hand with this rule for a few months now, and will continue to have a light touch here. Society has changed what NSFW means, it gets applied to so many things that are probably more suited to NSFL. We were basing it off of a school teacher dress code (so very literally, not something you'd be able to wear to work) so that anyone browsing the sub at work would have the option to view rather than possibly getting reprimanded for browsing something inappropriate. Going forward we will not be as restrictive but would still ask that small tops, bikinis/swimwear, underwear, crochet genitals, drug paraphernalia, weapons and profanity be marked NSFW. Question? Would you like some new flairs added, NSFW Clothing FO and NSFW Other FO (for example)? Please check your settings if posts are not blurred for you. We get a heap of reports for NSFW even when the post is tagged appropriately. Self promotion! Designers can absolutely post their work to the sub! It's exciting finishing an item! What you cannot do is spam the sub with your items or link to them anywhere in your post (no offering to dm, no mentioning shop names, no directing people to your profile). Lots of people are aware that people put their socials on their profile and they will find you if they want to. If we were to allow pattern designers the ability to post their pattern under the automod comment the sub would then get a lot of self promotion posts, there has been quite a lot of self promotion going on during “chaos week” PS, the automod comment is just a prompt, it is not a rule that you must post a pattern! Politics! We'd like to hear your ideas here. Would you like a megathread for political pieces or are you happy to see them posted in the sub? I’d like to point out that the sub is diverse, you exist in the space with people from all walks of life and we are trying to share that space with everyone based on crochet not political alignment. Things are crazy out there and we'd like to find the best solution we can that allows people to express themselves. Excessive Reports We’ve added a comment to posts removed by automod stating that the post has been removed because of multiple reports and that a mod will review and approve if it doesn’t break any rules. Kind and Courteous Going forward we will be banning people that make unkind comments. Commenting on peoples bodies, name calling, escalating arguments will all be removed. A first offence will come with a 3 day ban from the sub, second offence, a 7 day ban and third offence you will be permanently banned from the sub. We will allow appeals but this will be based on your profile and behaviour while banned, private profiles will not be considered for appeals. Ok! That's a lot of information!! Let's hear your thoughts in the comments. Please be nice. Remember that there is a person behind every post, every comment (ok, some of them are bots!) submitted by /u/LovelyLu78 to r/crochet [link] [comments]

UPDATE: Estranged parent won’t stop gossiping with my in-laws, now wants my sentimental baby clothing back (sister escalated today)
See my original post from yesterday for context and other screenshots: https://www.reddit.com/r/EstrangedAdultKids/s/n4LCxOuvY6 Update: First screenshot is my mom. The second screenshot is my sister. I likely won’t reply to either of them. Knowing my family, they will escalate this until they get what they want. This morning, my mom texted me: “You don’t sound well. Never mind about returning my work. Most likely you don’t have them anymore.” I didn’t reply. What is the sudden feigned concern with my mental wellbeing? This is the third time I’ve heard it from them in the past year. And then this afternoon, my sister texted me a very formal, lawyer-ish message demanding the items, saying they’re “shared family pieces” and “do not belong to any one person,” and that “several family members would love to have them back.” My mom’s story was that she needed them ASAP for a church talent show to display her handiwork. Now my sister’s story is that lots of family members suddenly want the “family heirlooms.” A couple details that feel relevant: • I can prove I’ve had this baby clothing for years. I have texts between my mom and I from 2016 showing I had them then. • In 2016, my mom texted and asked if she could use one for a wedding/baby flower girl and she wanted to alter it. I said no because I didn’t want them changed and were sentimental to me. She didn’t claim they were “shared,” and she never demanded them back then… she asked, like I had the final say. Now suddenly she’s demanding I “return her work”? Also, to clarify something I’m seeing in the comments on my previous post linked above: I’m not trying to control who talks to whom. I don’t care if they have casual contact. The issue is a massive pattern of sharing our private information and grievances about me and my husband after being asked not to, and it has directly damaged trust and relationships. This boundary is about protecting my marriage and my kids from back-channeling, not policing relationships. I feel… sad. Sure, I could technically give them the clothing even though it was given to me years ago, but it is the only thing I have left from my childhood. They’ve taken so much from me… longtime friendships, my entire extended family, and most recently, my mom has wrecked our relationship with my in-laws by slandering me. It all just feels heavy. Be gentle with me please. 💔 submitted by /u/Accomplished-Road566 to r/EstrangedAdultKids [link] [comments]

Story time: over-consumption culture made me close my Etsy shop
I am a crocheter and a couple years ago, I ran a successful Etsy shop selling some stuffed animals that I made! It started as a way to make a little spending money (on top of my day job) and also allow me to crochet as much as possible without amassing a pile of things that I didn’t need. This Etsy shop started out being a lot of fun - my customers loved my work and were super happy to receive my work! But as I started advertising my work some more (via short videos on TikTok & Instagram), I started selling out more often and people couldn’t get the items that they wanted - I noticed that my customers started acting almost frantic. I would announce the day/time that I would restock my Etsy shop and would completely sell out within minutes. I had to imagine that people were waiting at their computers trying to get their hands on something from my shop. All for just a stuffed animal. Then the bulk orders came, I started noticing that a couple people were spending upwards of several hundred dollars at my shop every month. I hoped that these were all gifts, but honestly who knows that many people to give gifts to? I started feeling very anxious about this new pattern of buying habits - almost guilty that people were wasting all their hard-earned money on some stupid stuffed animal that I made - and that confused me. Shouldn’t I be grateful that so many people were loving my art and supporting me & my work? But I couldn’t shake that feeling, so I closed down my shop. I took a big, long break from crocheting after closing down my shop. I needed time to reframe what crocheting meant to me and find another niche in the craft. I loved making stuffed animals, but I came to the realization that I was just creating clutter for others to fill their house with - I wanted to create items that were useful or cherished. I tried making clothes but didn’t love how my first few cardigans turned out. Then a friend announced that she was having a baby and I decided to make a baby blanket. This friend was so thrilled to receive this gift (it was a surprise too!) and it really restarted my love for crochet again. Luckily, several other friends have been growing their families in the past year and they’re all getting baby blankets!! Being able to step away from the culture of over-consumption and be able to give someone joy through just one thoughtfully crafted & slowly produced gift has brought me so much more joy than my Etsy shop ever did. TL;DR - Etsy shop started catering to the culture of over-consumption. I started crocheting thoughtful gifts and my hobby started bringing me joy once again. Edit: wanted to provide more info about the Etsy shop - the stuffed animals were for older kids or adults only. I used plastic eyes that could be a choking hazard so they weren’t recommended for little ones. My customers seemed to be mostly college-age “kids”, think similar to the Squishmallow trend a few years back. submitted by /u/adsiderum to r/Anticonsumption [link] [comments]

First quilt, all baby clothes
Every square is made of a knit onesie or toddler dress. I had to buy a whole bolt of lightweight interfacing to iron on the back of each before I cut the 5 inch squares. A lot of them had appliqués with animals. I tried a couple a layout patterns but there weren’t enough to look right, so I made it “random” and took black and white photos with my phone to be sure I distributed the values somewhat evenly. I backed it with some cotton batting and a large piece of blue flannel from my stash. I hoped to quilt simple rows, but the fabric proved too crawly for my little home machine, so I settled for hand tying the corners toward the back. I used some purple star fabric from my stash for the binding. A lot of things aren’t perfectly aligned. I’m not loving how much lint the flannel back picks up (so noticeable), and I maybe should have made the binding 1/2 wider as it came out a little bit tight. But it is very warm and it has so many memories of when my girls were tiny! Not fancy, just a heartfelt patchwork, and it makes me happy! I’m not sure I’ll make another quilt any time soon as this was mostly about the clothes, but it was a great experience. For those who have washed a very lightly quilted tee shirt quilt, what can I expect? Do I need to avoid the dryer with all that interfacing? I’m too nervous to try. I don’t really need to wash it now, it’s soft. submitted by /u/elusine to r/quilting [link] [comments]

Looking for baby patterns
I’m gonna become a aunt in a couple of months and I’m on the hunt for good patterns. I have looked at my local library and borrowed some books. But it would be nice to have some so I’ve got all the sizes at hand. Preferably looking for a pattern book or patterns that come in a bundle. Extra nice if it’s easily available in EU so I don’t have to spend the dubble the cost on shipping. submitted by /u/Mylschta to r/sewing [link] [comments]

Being a parent has made me absolutely hate my husband - a cautionary tale of having such low standards
I don't know if I want advice or to vent. I was extremely unwell during the last 2 months of pregnancy. Me and bub almost didn't make it. To cut a long story - we're back home now (have been for about 2 weeks and baby is almost a month old). I am still in excruciating pain from 3 seperate (non pregnancy related) surgeries I needed. Pain killers don't even work. I am told I need to recover and bed rest. I cannot rely on my husband at all. Whilst I was in ICU, bub was in NICU and later special nursery. I was told my husband did a wonderful job. I'm sure he did his best to impress the nurses giving him attention. Though I wonder if they were talking about someone elses husband. He will constantly boast about how baby does XYZ if he needs to XYZ. He keeps fact dropping and explaining things to me about him. I get I wasn't around for the first few days, but he acts as though I've been some absentee parent and it makes me feel like crap. Aside from the mind games, there's been several incidents now which have driven me to my breaking point. My husband was told by several doctors that he's meant to do the majority of care (due to my physical limitations). He's fallen asleep multiple times whilst feeding the baby on the bed and couch. We also have a very curious cat, so we bought a bassinet with a sturdy mosquito net. I have asked that if the cat is around that we ensure we zip it up or supervise. There has also been multiple times he's fallen asleep, leaving the baby unsupervised in the bassinet with our pets around and the net not zipped up. He constantly complains about getting little sleep, but he easily sleeps 10 hours per day, where-as I am getting an absolute max of 4. The icing on the cake was today when we had to take our baby to the EMERGENCY department for BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA TO THE HEAD. My husband was converting the bassinet to the side sleeper mode, and flipped the side down and it hit our little baby so hard in the head. I still can't believe he was ok. It's such a heavy pole and it struck him so hard in the head. Thankfully baby was okay but we have to keep an eye on him for the next 4 days. I can't even look at my poor baby without crying my eyes out everytime I see the massive lump on his head. Last week, my c*** of a mother in law kissed baby with a cold sore. I had to closely monitor for symptoms all week. Just when we thought we were in the clear, this happens! I'm so sick of it. We've only been home 2 weeks! I just cannot recover. I am pushing myself mentally and physically to the limit. To the point I've ended up in hospital twice for over exerting myself. My blood pressure is like 190/120. There will be no dishes washed, food prepared, clothes washed etc if I don't do it or nag. Husband promised he would renovate our room (his literal only house chore). I have been waiting 3 years. He couldn't even finish it in time for the baby. The set up we have is unbelievably uncomfortable. I am having to do everything. On top of everything, I now cannot even trust this person to keep our child safe in the 2 solo feeds and changes he does a day. The only time for me to get any reprieve has been stolen. He has 4 months off work by the way. He isn't working a full time job and doing this. I am despise him so much. I just can't take it anymore. I hate him so much. I know they are 'accidents' and I'll probably get dragged for this post, but it's just a pattern of absolute reckless behaviour. It's only been 2 weeks. I don't think he gives a shit about me to be honest. He seems to care about the baby, but I can't sleep tonight. I cannot trust him to keep the baby safe any longer. I genuinely think I'll end up in a psychiatric care unit, because I am at the absolute edge. Just need to stay strong for the baby, and maybe I'll need to consider hiring a nanny. Moral of the story - everyone kept telling me how lucky I was because he is handsome and doesn't abuse me. And that's how low the bar is. Not getting abused. Anyway, sorry. I just needed to vent. EDIT: Not sure if anyone is following but just thought I'd provide an update. My mum called me today to ask for help, so I took the opportunity to ask if she could come over and wash the dishes. This is a task she is able to do. Also had some lovely friends visit today and offer help after seeing this post ❤️ They came past, dropped off some food and offered some significant support. It was lovely having some company, and we will be seeing them later this week! Thank you to my friends if they come across this post again. I look forward to getting some help and having a nice time together in the process. Unfortunately, can't financially afford a nanny (maybe a once off as an emergency) but will be contacting some relatives this week to take them up on support they've offered. Re blood pressure: I was checked for protein in my urine at emergency and doctors said it wasn't pre-eclampsia. I tend to agree with them that it's just cumulative stress and lack of sleep. Reflecting today, my husband is obviously going through a hard time himself. Someone suggested medical issues - he does have some that would definately be making him tired. We had a pretty good chat today and he explained that he's feeling very depressed and jaded with everything that's happening. It's been one thing after another. He said he's grieving a time that was meant to be special. Instead it was (and still is) a bit of a nightmare. He too has had broken sleep, and also disclosed to me that he's made an appointment with our doctor to get some support for himself too. He didn't tell me as to not cause me stress. I think this is certainly a step in the right direction and I can only hope for now - a bit of a wake up call for him to take his health seriously and actually talk to someone about the non stop crap that's been happening the last few months. As another post suspected, I am probably suffering from a combo of PPA and PPD (I was already high risk before this). I'm currently in the process of getting further mental health support. Hopefully this will 'deflate' my heightened emotions and anxiety. Once the anxiety eases up, I will be better able to assess what is an actual vs perceived risk. I will be able to focus on taking action and become better at communicating my needs. Cannot believe this post reached so many people, but I thank you all for your responses, varied opinions, wonderful suggestions and messages. And it's so lovely of people to have offered help aswell. I would love to respond to them but don't have the bandwidth unfortunately. Updated moral of the story; this whole experience has helped me to swallow my pride and stop being such a stubborn bastard. I'm so used to being the 'got it together' person that I've forgotten what it feels like to be vulnerable and accept help. I think this is the case for many women unfortunately. I hope someone can read this story and accept help like I have. You would be surprised at who in your life genuinely wants to help. submitted by /u/zeleno1 to r/TwoXChromosomes [link] [comments]

In search of extremely silly baby clothes patterns
Hello! My coworker is pregnant and I asked if I could knit some clothes for her upcoming baby (a boy but she definitely doesn't care about gendered stuff so I only say that because I'm not actively looking at dresses currently but she might not even care about that!) and she got very excited and (jokingly and with love) was like "if you can make him look stupid that would be even better" so I am wondering if anyone has pattern recommendations for baby clothes with silly patterns/clashing colors/things that are a little weird? I'm on Ravelry of course but finding so many beautiful patterns and not enough that are just ridiculous. Give me your recommendations please! Edited to add: I am an advanced knitter who has worked in a yarn store, complex patterns are completely fine and welcome. Second edit: the main thing I have thought of so far is Fish Hat (Dead or Alive?) by Thelma Egberts but the pattern doesn't have a baby size! Just for an idea of silly things I am looking for. Third edit: I work at a vegan establishment. I am not a vegan at all (and my coworker knows this) but I respect the vibe and totally didn't think about that when I mentioned the dead fish hat. Probably not looking for dead animal themed things just to be safe! That one is on me, whoops. submitted by /u/fifthhousebreakfast to r/knitting [link] [comments]

Rant on baby clothes.
Can I just rant on the fact that EVERY SINGLE piece of baby clothes I find either has a pattern or a stupid saying… I have to buy “boys” clothes for my baby girl to just get a normal plain (not pink) item of clothing (and I had to order it because I could find anything in store) She’s cute enough as it is- she doesn’t need her shirt to say it- It’s so dumb And don’t even get me started on sizing… uuuuggghhhhh🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ submitted by /u/South_Map_8668 to r/NewParents [link] [comments]

AITA for not giving SIL my sons baby clothes?
My brother and SIL announced last month that they are expecting. My whole family is very excited because this will be the first grandchild born in our family since my children were born 22 and 19 years ago. This will also be my first niece or nephew so needless to say I am over the moon happy for them! About two weeks ago my youngest son came to me and his dad and told us that his girlfriend of 3 years was pregnant. We were surprised, but told them both that we are here for them and the baby and whatever they need we will do our best to help them out. My son and his girlfriend have decided to keep the baby and will live with us until they get on their feet. We told them they can stay as long as they need, rent free to save up money. So not only do I get a new niece or nephew, I am also getting a new grandchild! Friday night I went through boxes I had of baby items from when my kids were born. I saved one box of keepsakes for each child, which include an outfit and a blanket that my grandma crocheted for each of them before they were born. Sadly my grandma passed away before my youngest was born, so my two kids have the only handmade items from her. I also have the outfit and blanket my grandmother made for me, and said I was passing it to them to use. I posted on Facebook that my son and his girlfriend were thrilled to get them, and my SIL called and asked why I was giving them to my son and not to her. I explained that these were items made for my son and offered to make her something similar since I have all of my grandmas patterns. I said she could pick the colors/design and I would pay for all of the materials. I also told her that my brother had things from when he was a baby and my SIL told me he got rid of them because he never thought he would have kids. She then went on to say that her baby deserved them more, and me passing them to my son is breaking family traditions. I told her that there was no such family tradition, and again offered to make her any outfits and blankets she wanted and she refused. She is now saying that I will never see my niece or nephew because of my obvious favoritism. AITA for not giving her my sons baby things? Post update: I hope that it is okay to give an update to the situation. I apologize for not responding to the comments, we did a Mother’s Day dinner at my moms tonight. So dinner was very tense with my SIL. My son and his girlfriend were there with us, and any time someone would ask how his girlfriend was feeling, SIL would chime in and try to one up her. It got to the point where my son and his girlfriend were so uncomfortable they left. I did pull my brother to the side and asked what the problem was and why SIL seemed so upset, he said that she feels like my son and his girlfriend are stealing the attention from her and that she feels like nobody cares about their baby. I told my brother that was absolutely ridiculous, that we are all super happy and excited for their baby. My mother overheard the conversation and got very angry and confronted my SIL about it. SIL basically insinuated that my son got his girlfriend pregnant on purpose. That his baby will be the first great grandchild and that her baby will always have to share its first everything and compete. My mother got very upset about this and told SIL that this isn’t some weird baby competition, that there were two new lives being born into our family in two decades and that this was the most precious and wonderful thing any family could ask for. SIL became furious and stormed off. My brother apologized and left with her. SIL texted my mother about an hour ago and basically told her that since nobody cares about her baby we won’t have to worry about it, because we will never meet or get to know it. We are all devastated. My son and his girlfriend are extremely upset and feel like they should apologize (for what I don’t know), and my brother is now in the middle and has no idea what to do. submitted by /u/babyta987654 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]
