Bathtub leaking into floor below, help needed!
My friend is taking a soak in the bathtub in the guest bedroom upstairs. The bathtub hasn’t been filled with water for several years. I heard water dripping, ran downstairs and omg saw this happening in the kitchen right below the bathroom. Once they drained the bathtub, the water flow has stopped. Question, what should I do immediately to prevent any water damage from occurring inside the walls? Do I need to cut open the dry wall next to the light fixture to let inside air/dry out? Should I call a professional as I am afraid that I lack the proper tools? Thanks for any advice! submitted by /u/Prestigious_Ebb_8990 to r/HomeMaintenance [link] [comments]

Surprised our daughters with a new mermaid bathroom. They absolutely love the custom mosaic. I know it's not for everyone, but this is our forever home so we decided to just make it our own. Edit: The glass blocks in the "before" picture are leftover from when this bathroom had an exterior wall. The previous owner did an addition on the back side of that wall and closed up the window. Replacing a Shower Light Fixture, Any Experance with Flush LED Lights?
I tried posting this before but accidently advertised the new light. Hopefully this fixes the issue. (Sorry Mods, Don't ban me if I messed up again with this post, I just want advice 🙏). I have a light fixture in my shower (Picture 1) that has rusting brass and I'm looking to replace the fixture with a new LED Ceiling light (Picture 2) that doesn't require a metal tube in the attic space. My attic space has loose, shredded insolation material, not fiberglass rolls. Does anyone have experience with these types of LED light fixtures, if so, is it worth installing it or should I just go with a standard tube & bulb ceiling light? Any advice would help claim my nerves. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing and not about to set my house on fire. Also, BTW I am aware of the bathroom vent is crooked, that is a separate project. submitted by /u/blueipDriver to r/DIY [link] [comments]

Reno done on 1920's Bathroom
We needed to rip out part of the bath surround-the walls needed to be replaced closest to where the shower head was. The mold and mildew was terrible. The grout was completely gone. I wanted to preserve most of the blue 1920's tile-which we did. Removing the surround revealed an inch more of the tub. We replaced the floor which was put in about 15 years ago. The floor tile I bought on unbuilt. It is Ann Sacks Kodra Kilim. I wanted a mosaic but wanted to try to find the right colors. I had been looking at very expensive restoration brands but the cost would have been insane. I saw these on Unbuilt at $9 a sq ft and bought them in August, during the reno of another bathroom. They were not returnable so it was a gamble. I was nervous because they are so unusual. But everyone in the fam reacted as you are all. We tiled the new surround in 4x4 Restore Home Depot and went up to the ceiling. We added one accent line to tie the white in with the blue. I found the wave tiles on Etsy from salvage. They are from the 1920s from England-never used. They are spectacular in person and when the light hits them just right, they shimmer. The new walls and the floor were grouted with Laticrete Spectra Loc 1 in Frosty. We replaced the window as it was single paned and sealed shut. The window is a vinyl replacement awning window. It is black on the outside to match our other window. The window trim on the inside we opted for AZEK PVC, with the exception of the sill which is marble. I thought about keeping the original window trim (which I did in another bathroom reno I did but where window was not in the shower) but caved to the AZEK because I really don't want to be painting that thing every few years. The AZEK we did not paint at all and so we won't have to worry about it in the future. Also, with all that tile around it, I thought the simpler window was fine. My husband restored the radiator himself. The silver paint makes the art deco scream. We had a guy come in and restore the tub with epoxy. It looks so fabulous in person - like a large luminous marshmallow. The guy drove in from Brooklyn and was in and out in 3 hours. The new shower/tub and sink fixtures are Phylrich Hex Traditional I bought on eBay. Sink is the original 1920s pedastal. The toilet is 10 years old but we took it apart and completely cleaned it. Ceramic fixtures are all the same (towel racks, light, etc.) I went to Sherwin Williams and a lady there helped me match the blue tiles to some of their colors and then I looked for complementary color/s for walls and trim. I settled on Light French Gray for walls and Rarified Air for Trim. We used one contractor for demo, tiling (the tiler did not use spacers, for anyone interested - all by eye), painting and another contractor for plumbing, and another for tub restoration. My husband restored the radiator and we both did the deep cleans of the toilet and sink when they were removed. I think it came out fabulous! Painted my bathroom red and I HATE it. What should I do?
Was about to do a last coat to even things up (I know the door looks like shit) but I honestly just can’t stand what we did. Every time I walk in here I’m getting blood red vampire vibes instead of the dark moody vibes I wanted. Bought a new light fixture (pic 3) and I think I hate that too? I will be changing out the lightbulbs today to see if I can make an improvement there: After a night of searching Pinterest for ideas that I might like more, I landed on pic 4 as inspo. If I get a high enough quality burgundy paint, can I go over this without priming? Should I hire a pro and start over completely? Should I abandon the entire idea of red? Is my issue just that I went with too shiny of a finish? I honestly think I should have gone eggshell over semi gloss, but the color is just too much for me. I live in a very MCM home but I love the dark romantic aesthetic and thought this small bathroom would work. Please give me any tips or suggestions to make this better. submitted by /u/thelilspookygirl to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

At last. At long last.
r/centuryhomes, we've done it. After weeks of sturm und drang, paperwork purgatory, and a quick and chaotic move-out... we closed last Thursday on the 1928 Tudor with the purple bathroom. She's finally ours. New info from the previous owners: she was last updated in 1991. Owner at that time restored and added many 1920s-1930s era fixtures around the space at that time (namely lighting and doorknobs) 💛🩵 Some pics of those details included, plus tuckered puppy and very pleased kitty for tax. submitted by /u/Left_Adeptness7386 to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

8 years later it finally feels complete 🏡
I moved into my partner’s place which was very ~bachelor pad~ in 2017 and have been updating, renovating, tweaking, redecorating, and practicing my interior design creativity over the years in every single room. While I never feel like it’s fully finished, I’ve poured so much love and energy into it that it finally feels like “me” and wanted to share! We rent but are very lucky to have open minded landlords. Some things we have done: • Painted every room, some with lime wash • replaced every ceiling light fixture & added medallions • added picture molding and painted closet doors, and added vintage hardware • replaced door knobs • redid kitchen backsplash tile • replaced kitchen sink and faucet • new bathroom vanity • added wainscoting and wallpaper to the hallway • added brass hardware to kitchen cabinets … and much more! submitted by /u/lindsey_what to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Some things we have done: -Painted every room, some with lime wash replaced every ceiling light fixture & added medallions added picture molding and painted closet doors, and added vintage hardware replaced door knobs redid kitchen backsplash tile replaced kitchen sink and faucet new bathroom vanity added wainscoting and wallpaper to the hallway added brass hardware to kitchen cabinets … among many other things! Happy to answer any questions and open to ideas as well💡 submitted by /u/lindsey_what to r/femalelivingspace [link] [comments]

Brown bathroom update - how did I do so far?
Just want to say - you guys are amazing. I never thought I could actually like this bathroom, but now I find myself stopping just to look at it when I walk by. Thank you all for the suggestions! I haven’t done everything I would like to do, but here is my progress. I went for an earthy vibe and tried to embrace the 70s colors instead of fighting them. I would like to repaint the ceiling and white door, swap out the light fixtures and do something with the dark brown linen closet door. I was looking for a longer/more oval mirror to fill up up the space but couldn’t pass up the $25 price tag on this round one. Would love to hear your feedback! submitted by /u/madnmooody to r/Oldhouses [link] [comments]

New Home Bathroom Remodel
Hi everybody, I’m hoping to get some opinions on a bathroom remodel in our just purchased first home. I’ve asked chatgpt to render the two options as I’m in a creative/practical conundrum on which direction to go. Advice or a clear winner in your opinion would be awesome! Constraints/Considerations: 1. We refinished the cast iron tub professionally, but it’s a longer than standard 66”. This is making it difficult to find a glass slider tub door. 30” standard depth though. 2. We purchased tile and it’s the 2.5”x8” Bedrosians Cloe in green. We’re gonna lay it stacked vertically. 3. Rough plumbing has been completed and the final fixtures will be Delta’s champagne bronze (spout, handheld, and shower head with a separate diverter valve above the mixing valve). 4. Total bathroom size is 60ish square feet so not huge. 5. We’re installing a niche on the wall to the right. 6. Vanity will eventually be a light natural wood finish. Pic 1: original tub surround before demo. Pic 2: chatgpt generated version if we kept the walls as is. Ignore the toilet and cgi weirdness of the fixtures. Niche should be on the short wall to the right. Pic 3: We add an arch to the tub entry. Same cgi issues as above. Note - Adding an arch would take a little more time, but allow us to fit a standard 60” door in the opening with wall bump outs on both sides. I welcome all feedback. submitted by /u/t12ix7er to r/InteriorDesign [link] [comments]

Would you move the mirror and light fixture ?
We recently removed the whole wall mirror and dated lights over the bathroom vanity. We did not know until the new mirror and new light fixture went up that the electrical had been placed off center of the sink but center on the window. Either way it will be off center of one thing. Sink or window. Would you move the mirror and lights over to center on the sink, or keep it the way it is Thanks ! submitted by /u/Kathy7511 to r/HomeDecorating [link] [comments]

Century bathroom refresh “lean into it”
When we first looked at the house I thought we would demo this bathroom. Many realtor friends said I was nuts, keep the retro tile. I had a remodeler come in and told them I wanted to retain the tile and do the shower enclosure, vanity, lights, etc and they told me they wouldn’t do it and leave the tile, so I did it myself! Now I’m so happy we kept the tile and just “leaned into” the vibe, whatever that vibe might be! This is shared between guests & a cat loving 11-year old, hence the cats bathing prints. We did tile & grout refresh & reseal; custom shower enclosure; new vanity; new light fixtures, mirror & art. Still need rugs & towels. 💚💚 scroll for the before & in-process shots. submitted by /u/daydrinkingonpatios to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

Rental Remodel After Nightmare Tenant
I had a tenant who adopted six pit bulls from the local animal shelter without my permission. The dogs did a ton of damage to the house. The tenant did her share of damage as well. The first few pics are the day I got the house back. (I don't have a picture of the bathroom from that day, so I added one from the day I bought the house). I did a full remodel myself. Framing, wall/removal & beam install, insulation, tile, cabinets, countertops, kitchen/bathroom flooring, plumbing, electric, new LED lighting & fixtures, appliances (purchased and repaired from FB marketplace), vanity, toilet, reglaze tub, furnishings, and more. The only things I didn't DIY were paint and refinishing the hardwoods. I've done those before, and I know my limitations. The one major improvement that doesn't show in the pictures is the smell. The whole placed reeked of dog pee. I ran an industrial dehumidifier for two weeks, and an ozone machine for another week. I also used deodorizing floor cleaner, before having the floors sanded and sealed. Very happy with how this turned out. It'll be a mid-term rental for traveling nurses, because it's 1/4 mile from a major hospital. I didn't do a great job tracking my expenses, but total cost was in the $9k-$11k range. submitted by /u/LoopholeTravel to r/DIY [link] [comments]

Instead of getting new lighting fixtures for my bathrooms I taped it up good and spent a little more on some good spray paint. I’m pretty stoked on the results
