"is this what happens when you have zero scientists in your administration?"
Just twelve days after trump blew $14.2 million of your tax dollars painting the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool a patriotic "American flag blue," workers were on their hands and knees this morning pouring what looked like Walmart pharmacy bottles of hydrogen peroxide into what is now a very green, very algae-covered swampy national embarrassment that looks like something RFK Jr. would take his kids swimming in. Pool renovation expert Steve Goodale had literally predicted this exact outcome, warning that darker paint absorbs more sunlight, raises water temperature, and makes algae blooms inevitable. It was, in his words, "a foregone conclusion." And here is the kicker: to actually treat 6.5 million gallons of water properly, you would need a minimum of 8,000 liters of 12% hydrogen peroxide injected directly into the filtration intake so it disperses evenly throughout the entire pool, not guys kneeling at the edge dumping gallon jugs in one spot like they are cleaning a bathroom. As one doctor put it on social media, "is this what happens when you have zero scientists in your administration?" The whole spectacle would be funny if it were not so expensive and so completely on brand. The actual fix here is embarrassingly simple: repaint the pool the original light grey, which does not absorb heat, does not supercharge algae growth, and did not cost $14 million dollars. Instead, this administration would rather send workers out daily with bottles from the medicine cabinet than admit the dark blue paint was a vanity mistake that any pool professional could have told them not to make, and in fact did tell them not to make, loudly and publicly, before they did it anyway. This is what the trump administration does. It does not solve problems, it performs solving them. The reflecting pool is green, so they pour something in it and hope you stop looking. The underlying issue stays broken, the band aid goes on top, and everyone moves on until the next embarrassing photo goes viral. From the Kennedy Center tarp hiding where they removed his name, to the Epstein files they have fought to keep buried, the whole operation runs on the same logic: if you can cover it up fast enough, maybe nobody will notice. But we notice, donald. We always notice submitted by /u/owossome to r/Owosso [link] [comments]

Can we change just the vanity in these bathrooms?
These bathrooms are functional but outdated. Can I do a light remodel, eg. change the vanity, or will it look weird? The previous owners already replaced the toilets with white ones. My suspicion is that a change vanity will not line up correctly with the tiled wall and simply won’t look right. Update, really appreciate all the comments, suggestions and general positivity. My wife and I are reconsidering changing the vanities. Perhaps we will try painting the walls first to see how that looks. Update 5/26 I know I sparked a lot of questions with why we would remodel bathrooms like this and to be fair, I actually like old styles for bathrooms. I’ll add some more pics later to show the condition. The drawers are in rough shape (stains, some mold, don’t open/close easily). And either the grout or caulk was done poorly so it doesn’t look as good in person. Also the vanity door in the center is weirdly designed - basically I can’t access the drain pipe underneath so that’s a hazard. For reference, I added a photo of the half balf that will likely remain untouched. Aside from the vanity already being replaced, it’s in better condition and the style is better. submitted by /u/Mohzman to r/Remodel [link] [comments]

Hello centenarian lovers! I’m the new owner of a 95 year old house and want to share my first win.
This house is in Pittsburgh, PA and has charm out the wazoo. She needs a little love but I am eternally grateful (for now) to the seller, who had it for 20 years and made some recent modern upgrades for us. That said, he did also make some choices that I can’t fault him for, but I’m going to put in the elbow grease to revert and restore where we can. Here‘s my first win - this bathroom has white painted tile and gray walls. White vanity, toilet, tub and surround. My first thought was to strip the white on the tiles and see what’s under there. Is it salmon? Mint? Hydrated urine yellow?? Jokes on me because it’s a lovely cream main color, with a black band at the top before the plaster and then a fun little strip of black inlaid with green diamonds on white. It screams art deco to me, so my intention is to paint the walls above the tiles black, then the ceiling the same color as that light cream on the majority of tiles. We have a bit of a way to go before painting starts. Some electrical, getting the floors refinished. I’ll be sure to post a before and after of our floor lottery prize (or disappointment). I also intend to restore the phone nook that has been painted white. As a note, I found this sub when looking at tips for restoring original door knobs and plates. Thanks for being here yall and happy northern hemisphere spring! submitted by /u/ProbsDrunkOrProcrast to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

I remodelled my girlfriend's bathroom because of failed waterproofing
(EDIT: please excuse some of the weird AI blurriness around the bottom edges of some pics: I shot these with a super wide 10mm lens with terrible sensor crop/vignetting, and I used photoshops refill feature to try clean up the corners, but I just realised it's left some ugly AI-looking funkiness on the very corners) (2nd EDIT: the hole in the ceiling above the shower is for a skylight, I'll install that and finish off the plastering once my partner's bank account recovers from the bathtub purchase. My Girlfriend recently bought her first home; A mid-2000s developer build in Pascoe Vale. Unfortunately, as expected of these kinds of builds in Australia; there was significant water damage due to failed waterproofing in the upstairs shower. This was, however, a good excuse to redo the bathroom for her and get rid of the grey floor tiles, grey wall tiles, grey vanity, and all other depressing mid-2000s developer-build stylings. She also wanted a bathtub, and a frameless shower. The existing bathroom wasn't big enough to achieve this, so I moved some walls and claimed space from an adjoining linen closet for the shower recess. I also had to do some tricky stuff with raising and lowering parts of the floor (difficult because of the truss beam system) to create the appropriate drop for the screed, to accommodate the threshold-less shower. (I did like 6 coats of waterproofing, above and below screed, used the most expensive bond-breaker tape I could source etc. because I did NOT want this bathroom to leak again!). She wanted a timber vanity. We discovered nice timber vanities are insanely expensive. So I built the vanity myself out of some cheap tassie-oak panels from Bunnings. I was very happy with how well that came up. My friends Milwaukee tracksaw made that very easy to do. I also dropped the ceiling by 45mm to create a recessed led "halo" light as the main lighting, which turned out really nice. My partner wanted a clear bathtub because she's a pervert (I'm currently refusing to bath in it for fear of being ogled and objectified). Oh; she would also like it known that she bought this bathtub BEFORE it was featured on The Block. She was not happy when it appeared on the block. (I think she wanted to order her tub, then the supply company go out of business, so she was the only person in Australia to have a clear resin bathtub). It looks fabulous, but it was monstrously difficult to silicone in place due to the caustic effect of the clear resin visually magnifying and emphasising the silicone bead from every angle inside and outside (And also I am not very good at siliconing). The total cost of this renovation was about $12k I think. It took me about 3 months, after work each day and on weekends. (although the amount of tiling here almost killed me). The main costs was the bathtub ($5k), and the bath faucet at ($1.1k), and my mental sanity & hairline (priceless). submitted by /u/khdownes to r/AusRenovation [link] [comments]

8 years later it finally feels complete 🏡
I moved into my partner’s place which was very ~bachelor pad~ in 2017 and have been updating, renovating, tweaking, redecorating, and practicing my interior design creativity over the years in every single room. While I never feel like it’s fully finished, I’ve poured so much love and energy into it that it finally feels like “me” and wanted to share! We rent but are very lucky to have open minded landlords. Some things we have done: • Painted every room, some with lime wash • replaced every ceiling light fixture & added medallions • added picture molding and painted closet doors, and added vintage hardware • replaced door knobs • redid kitchen backsplash tile • replaced kitchen sink and faucet • new bathroom vanity • added wainscoting and wallpaper to the hallway • added brass hardware to kitchen cabinets … and much more! submitted by /u/lindsey_what to r/interiordecorating [link] [comments]

Upgraded bathroom from single to double vanity
Second big project that I’ve tackled alone in my house. Guest bathroom had old single sink vanity with laminate top and a large space to the left of the sink was pretty useless (original picture was the staged picture when we purchased the house). I didn’t want to continue applying lipstick on this pig, so we decided to upgrade the vanity, bathroom mirror, and lighting. Did everything myself including electric, drywall, and converted the pipes and drain from the single to double vanity. Overall, pretty happy how it came out. Mostly sharing because I’m a resident in the medical field, and hope to inspire any one who is afraid to tackle a project like this. Took a number of weekends and late nights, but with the help of a few YouTube videos and patience I was able to knock it out. submitted by /u/Chitown_Derp to r/DIY [link] [comments]

New Home Bathroom Remodel
Hi everybody, I’m hoping to get some opinions on a bathroom remodel in our just purchased first home. I’ve asked chatgpt to render the two options as I’m in a creative/practical conundrum on which direction to go. Advice or a clear winner in your opinion would be awesome! Constraints/Considerations: 1. We refinished the cast iron tub professionally, but it’s a longer than standard 66”. This is making it difficult to find a glass slider tub door. 30” standard depth though. 2. We purchased tile and it’s the 2.5”x8” Bedrosians Cloe in green. We’re gonna lay it stacked vertically. 3. Rough plumbing has been completed and the final fixtures will be Delta’s champagne bronze (spout, handheld, and shower head with a separate diverter valve above the mixing valve). 4. Total bathroom size is 60ish square feet so not huge. 5. We’re installing a niche on the wall to the right. 6. Vanity will eventually be a light natural wood finish. Pic 1: original tub surround before demo. Pic 2: chatgpt generated version if we kept the walls as is. Ignore the toilet and cgi weirdness of the fixtures. Niche should be on the short wall to the right. Pic 3: We add an arch to the tub entry. Same cgi issues as above. Note - Adding an arch would take a little more time, but allow us to fit a standard 60” door in the opening with wall bump outs on both sides. I welcome all feedback. submitted by /u/t12ix7er to r/InteriorDesign [link] [comments]

Century bathroom refresh “lean into it”
When we first looked at the house I thought we would demo this bathroom. Many realtor friends said I was nuts, keep the retro tile. I had a remodeler come in and told them I wanted to retain the tile and do the shower enclosure, vanity, lights, etc and they told me they wouldn’t do it and leave the tile, so I did it myself! Now I’m so happy we kept the tile and just “leaned into” the vibe, whatever that vibe might be! This is shared between guests & a cat loving 11-year old, hence the cats bathing prints. We did tile & grout refresh & reseal; custom shower enclosure; new vanity; new light fixtures, mirror & art. Still need rugs & towels. 💚💚 scroll for the before & in-process shots. submitted by /u/daydrinkingonpatios to r/centuryhomes [link] [comments]

Remember this bathroom with the vanity I hated but you all (mostly) loved? Swipe for the after pics
It took longer than I thought it would to call this tiny powder room finished, but so happy with how it turned out! You’ll all be pleased to know we kept the vanity, and decided to keep the mirror too when we took it off the wall and saw it was from 1979—the same age as our house! The carpet on the other hand is obviously history (praise be), and the wallpaper too (which was hiding black mold, ew). Love the light fixture we found, and we replaced the faucet and cabinet hardware too. And we obviously had to add a funny piece of artwork behind the door! Thank you again to all the folks who said a dark bathroom would look amazing—you were right! Rental Remodel After Nightmare Tenant
I had a tenant who adopted six pit bulls from the local animal shelter without my permission. The dogs did a ton of damage to the house. The tenant did her share of damage as well. The first few pics are the day I got the house back. (I don't have a picture of the bathroom from that day, so I added one from the day I bought the house). I did a full remodel myself. Framing, wall/removal & beam install, insulation, tile, cabinets, countertops, kitchen/bathroom flooring, plumbing, electric, new LED lighting & fixtures, appliances (purchased and repaired from FB marketplace), vanity, toilet, reglaze tub, furnishings, and more. The only things I didn't DIY were paint and refinishing the hardwoods. I've done those before, and I know my limitations. The one major improvement that doesn't show in the pictures is the smell. The whole placed reeked of dog pee. I ran an industrial dehumidifier for two weeks, and an ozone machine for another week. I also used deodorizing floor cleaner, before having the floors sanded and sealed. Very happy with how this turned out. It'll be a mid-term rental for traveling nurses, because it's 1/4 mile from a major hospital. I didn't do a great job tracking my expenses, but total cost was in the $9k-$11k range. submitted by /u/LoopholeTravel to r/DIY [link] [comments]

Atrocious light setup in an atrocious bathroom.
Atrocious light setup in an atrocious bathroom. We just purchased this place 6 months ago and I hated the vanity light in the basement bathroom since day 1. It’s not even centred unfortunately the electrical box is off center. It looks oversized for the space.
