Just like the title says I want to know what you guys think of Beauty of Josen products. I’ve personally never used anything by the brand as I’ve been living in Korea for anlmost 10 years and have personally never seen it sold in any store or market here not even in Olive Young. I also don’t know a single Korean person here who uses it. What I understand about it is that it’s a Korean brand that specifically markets to largely American and other global markets. I just realised it's been 9 months between these two photos, and I had to share because I'm honestly so happy with the progress. 😊 In my late 20s, I started noticing wrinkles forming on my forehead. My search for sunscreens continued and, after 1 year, I finally found what works for me just in time for summer! Also, I know that the KBeauty companies have been releasing new American versions in compliance with the FDA. So, I just want to mention that the sunscreens I reviewed below are all the Korean versions, not the American ones (which I have never tried). One way to identify which version it is: the American ones will say "Broad Spectrum" on it, while the Korean version will say "SPF 50, PA++++" on it. Skin Type: Combination, but easily oily/sensitive with certain ingredients Skin Tone: I would say sand, maybe warm ivory skin tone Environment: Hot, humid Anessa Perfect UV Mild Milk This one has very runny/milky consistency. It's easy to blend to the skin and dries down fast and becomes matte. I chose to try this over the original because the original has alcohol and fragrance in it. This one is very mild, and marked as safe for sensitive skin and babies. It's what I use on my kids for daily use. This was the first sunscreen I tried that didn't break me out. It did give me some shine throughout the day. But overall, it's comfortable enough to wear for daily use. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics I know this sunscreen gets a lot of hype, but it is honestly one of my HG. This was my first emptied sunscreen. I didn't think I could ever find a sunscreen I would love until I tried this one. It's creamy, but not thick, and it feels so nice on application. It's very moisturizing and I can skip my moisturizer in the morning. It does give a dewy look, which I am not a fan of, but once it dries down, it had a semi matte feel which I really like. I can wear it throughout the day without looking like a greaseball, and it didn't break me out at all. I tried the Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen before, and they honestly feel very similar but I reacted to Round Lab. They're both great sunscreens and if you react to one, the other one might be worth a try. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Aqua Fresh I didn't think Beauty of Joseon sunscreen can get any better, until I tried this! It is more runny consistency than the original. It feels so nice and a bit cooling on application. It is not as dewy and has a semi matte look and feel, which I absolutely love! Even though it is semi matte, it still feels hydrating and not drying. It doesn't make me oily or shiny throughout the day, and I love that this one is alcohol free. I can see myself going back to the original during the winter time though because it is more moisturizing. But for oily/combination skin, I can see how this can work as a year round suncreen. For me, it's definitely perfect for summer! Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen I've reviewed this before, but I wanted to include it again since I know that most people often can't decide between this and the original Beauty of Joseon. I tried this before I tried Beauty of Joseon. Their consistency and feel are very similar and almost identical. Round Lab does give a slightly less dewy look on application, which I like, but I think they dry down fairly similar, which is a lightweight kinda matte feel while keeping the dewy look. Neither are sticky or tacky. Neither one gave extra shine or oiliness throughout the day. As much as I love it, I did have a reaction with Round Lab Birch. I'm not sure if it's the Birch or the essential oils in it, but I had red bumps (not acne) after wearing it - even though I had no reaction spot testing it on my arm. So, just be aware if anyone is sensitive to essential oils. The original Beauty of Joseon is oil free. Like I said, they're both great sunscreens and if you react to one, the other one might be worth a try. Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Sunscreen This sunscreen is a matte girl's dream! To be honest, look wise, this was my favorite of them all. It is denatured alcohol free, oil free, and fragrance free. Sadly, it has cetearyl alcohol in it, which my skin just doesn't like. I broke out in whiteheads and had irritated skin after wearing it for an entire afternoon. I really wanted to love this one. It applies so well and it feels so nice on application and afterwards, no whitecast. It didn't make my skin oily or shiny throughout the day. I really wish it my skin didn't react to it. I will say that this is not as moisturizing or hydrating as the Round Lab Birch Juice or either one of the Beauty of Joseon sunscreens, so I feel like I can't skip moisturizer with this. If you have oily/combination skin, and it is not sensitive to it, I would recommend this. If it is sensitive to this, or you're just looking for a more hydrating one yet still gives that nice semi-matte look, I would say go for the Beauty of Joseon Aqua Fresh. They're all great sunscreens. But, I know everyone's skin is different and it really matters on which works best for your skin. Still, I love having these options out there. Do people really trust Beauty of Joseon? This is an ad from their official retailer. This real result is a fake result. You can tell because it's the same image, the bottom one being retouched. Every single hair is in the same place in both pictures. Unless I'm currently stroking out and airbrushing is widely considered a real result, I have strong reservations about using their products. Rating system: 1/5: absolutely terrible 2.5/5: average 5/5: exceptional This is one of my favorite brands. Their products are pretty affordable fragrance-free, and very gentle on the skin. Radiance Cleansing Balm: 5/5 The best cleansing balm I have ever tried. I have found it to be quite soothing to the skin. It removes my makeup with ease and doesn’t leave a residue. Sooo good! Ginseng Cleansing Oil: 4.5/5 This one is so nice. It removes makeup very well. My only caveat with this one is the smell. It has a natural smell from the ingredients which is quite medicinal. Not a negative to most people but I found that it lasts a bit after washing off. Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser: 4/5 Nice cleansing gel. Very gentle. This is a good choice if you are someone who double cleanses. It foams up a bit but it isn’t overly stripping. Ginseng Essence Water: 3.5/5 I know that someone is going to bite my head off for this but this toner is a bit overrated imo. Nothing bad about it but there are hydrating toners which do the job better. It is nice but underwhelming. Green Plum Refreshing Toner: AHA + BHA: 4/5 This is an excellent choice for someone who wants a chemical exfoliant but has sensitive skin. Very hydrating, but gentle enough that you could almost use it every day. Very nice product Glow serum: Propolis + Niacinamide: 4/5 Nice serum. I suspect it would work well for acne prone skin with the propolis and niacinamide. Just be cautious of the propolis if you have allergies to flowers or pollen because that allergy might be set off by the propolis. Calming Serum: Green Tea + Panthenol: 4.5/5 Nice soothing serum. It’s hydrating and absorbs immediately. Revive Serum: Ginseng + Snail Mucin: 4/5 Nice but imo there are better snail mucin products out there. Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal: 5/5 This product is a game changer for people looking for affordable retinal products. I would use this all over the face like your usual retinoid (not just on the eye area). The texture is so nice and light, unlike most retinaldehydes I’ve tried. It layers beautifully. While the percentage of retinal is on the lower side (0.02%), it is at an effective percentage to see results. It’s also encapsulated to minimize irritation. This is an excellent introductory retinal product! I have enjoyed this product so much! Dynasty Cream: 5/5 So nice if you have normal or combo skin! Perfect occulusive texture without being too rich. Very soothing ingredients! Really wonderful product. This one has been my nightly moisturizer during the summer months and my skin loves it! Red bean water gel: 5/5 This product is the light hydrating moisturizer my oily skin has been searching for my whole life! Literally phenomenal! Highly recommend for oily skin or people looking for a lightweight summer/morning moisturizer. There is also some data to indicate that the red bean in this product could reduce sebum production and boost the efficacy of your sunscreen (though there needs to be more studies to validate this). Ginseng Moist Sun Serum (SPF 50+ PA++++): 3.5/5 Melts into the skin quickly. High SPF and very lightweight but it looks greasy on the skin (be mindful of that if you have oily skin). My main gripe with this is that it contains fragrance, which wasn’t necessary and could be sensitizing. Matte Sun Stick (SPF 50+ PA++++): 4.5/5 I love this one! It’s very compact and I love that I can just shove it in my purse and reapply it throughout the day. The ingredients are very soothing and even though I am someone who at times can be prone to irritation with chemical filters, this one caused no issues even around my sensitive eye area. It is also the most mattefying sunscreen I have ever found. It literally works like a blotting powder, which is something I adore as a person with oily skin. The only negative is that you do not get a lot of product for the price, which makes it more expensive than the other two SPF’s from this brand. Still, this is an absolute favorite of mine. Relief sun: Rice + Probiotics (SPF 50+ PA++++): 5/5 I mean this product took the internet by storm for a reason, it is incredible! This has been my daily sunscreen for like a year now and I have gone through several tubes (I must be on my fifth or sixth tube by now).
