I just finished installing a simple LED uplight (COB CCT strip hidden inside a small cornice) along a single 4m wall in my child's bedroom… and honestly, the light quality is the best I’ve ever experienced in any room, ever. It feels brighter during the day, softer at night. Zero glare, no harsh shadows, everything looks evenly lit. And it wasn’t expensive or complicated: just a 24V COB CCT strip + a little polystyrene cornice to hide it. I’m now wondering… Why isn’t this lighting style more common in homes? Now that I’ve lived with it for a few days, I can’t imagine going back to a normal ceiling light or a harsh downlight. Curious to hear from others. Do you use indirect cove/cornice lighting at home? I've been getting cheap strips off amazon every year for 3 years now. I'm ready to throw in good money because I am tired of the lights discoloring mere months after purchasing. I noticed the first spots in this set about a month in. And now, a year later, there is more discolored spots than normal spots. In the first pic, they should be purple. Second, they should be blue. And third, they should be pink. There are a few colors that are fine though, which would be true rgb green and a few of its adjacent shades. I have no idea anything about lights and how much a good set costs, but I am willing to put down some good money if it's worth it. It’s 4:30 am gotta be at work at 8am. I spoke to the neighbor a week and a half ago, and asked them to please turn these down; or point them down away from my window. They told me to just put my curtains down. I said even with my curtains light still shines through and sometime it’s nice to have the window open and get fresh air. Last November I made an arched bookshelf in our bedroom, and I finally got around to creating the matching arch to go around the bed. Photos 1 & 2 are the final product. Photo 3 - Putting up the 3” studs. I made them 3” deep because the edge of our bedroom sticks out 3.5” and I want to flush my wall with the part that sticks out. I’m using 1/2” MDF. Luckily our walls have plywood behind all the drywall, so I can put my studs wherever I want, and don’t have to line them up with the studs in the building. Photo 4 - After scribing the MDF to the ceiling and sides, I screw them into my studs. Photo 5 - I’ve made a 53” radius router jig to make a perfect (half) circle. Photo 6 - On the table saw I turned a couple 1x4’s into my arch support pieces. They are 3x3” and have a relief cut into them where my LEDs are going to go. Photo 7 - I’ve added the inside 1/8th” MDF, and have left room for my LED Strip. I’ve also slid the LEDs into the wall, so the plug can run through my wall and out the hole in the bottom. I’ve also spackled all my screw holes, and have used way too much spackle between my wall and the existing wall that stood out 3.5” Photo 8 - 1 coat of paint, 1 more to go. Photo 9 - My plans, including the placement of my studs, so I knew where I could secure my MDF to the studs once they were hidden. Photo 10 - The Bedroom Bookshelf Arch I made in November. The video shows a light flickering in my bedroom that occurred while i was sleeping that I can't explain. I have two lights in the bedroom but have no idea how they could flicker like this. One is a reading light that is usb powered. Another is a ceiling fan light that has a switch. Neither have flickered ever before. I also tested the lights and checked the camera footage and they are very very dim in comparison to this footage. I also tried testing if my phone, the only other device in the bedroom, was somehow receiving a notification and emitting this pattern somehow when there was motion detected in the camera, but it did not. The pic doesn't do it justice, this thing is ridiculous! I have a blackout roller blind that was fine when I worked nights and was sleeping during the day, but it can't handle this incandescent monstrosity. Obviously if he was normal I could go talk to him about it... But you guessed it, he's a handful. Older man with PTSD of some kind, he's never bothered me so far but has done some crazy stuff on other neighbours and I don't want to start anything... Our house is 2 weeks old and we haven’t installed blinds yet. They are Karen’s that whinge about everything and he is complaining our air conditioner is too loud when his in the exact same spot on his side of the fence. He emailed the other day saying our air con is against the law and he had an independent assessor review the noise level. I asked for the report and nothing since.
