It hit my boyfriends display closet with his Warhammer figures, which then hit his computer monitor and broke it. Needless to say, the cats weren't very popular after this. Update: Can people PLEASE stop telling me that I have to anchor then cat tree? I GOT IT, OKAY? Update 2: Since everybody keeps commenting on it; My boyfriend picked up the figurines before the case and the cat tree, so we wouldn't step on them, when we put the other things back in place, and also to assess the damage. Cat abandoned on tree 😭
My father (who loves animals but did NOT want another in his house) was the one who found her tied to a tree outside of his house. Brought her in and kept an eye until I came over. Ever since they have been the best of buds. She's a little wonky senior cat who loves being *near* him but just like him loves to just hangout. I'm so happy she found him but so sad that her last owner or another person did this to her!! She is happy and healthy now ❤️ submitted by /u/JessyBearFA to r/cats [link] [comments]

Please beware of Danger in cat tree placement
Im writing this so other owners can be aware of dangers with how they place their cat trees. I lost my sweet boy jazz today. He was only a year old. He was taking a nap in his cat tree when he rolled over while sleeping and fell at just the wrong angle. The cat tree was placed between my partner and I's desks and when he fell while sleeping he landed on his head right at the bottom of the ramp between the ramp and the desk. Since his body couldn't move, the fall unfortunately snapped his neck.. I was with him when it happened, I know its a freak accident but I don't want it to happen to anyone else. Edit: Posting this online, I honestly wasn't expecting anything to come of it- but waking up to hundreds of comments and messages from strangers wishing us well, sharing stories, and telling me they are gonna give their animals a little extra love tonight meant so much more than I can explain. Also, not sure why people keep mentioning it- the tower was fastened to the wall and didn't fall over. Ultimately Jazz's downfall was a belly full of chicken, and a nap too good for this world. He was a good boy, that passed quickly and painlessly. Give your animals some extra love for me tonight. Ty submitted by /u/Secretly_TechSupport to r/cats [link] [comments]

Actual High-Quality Cat Tree Found
I bought a regular cat tree for a young cat I took in about a year-and-a-half ago. It was fine for him as he is pretty mellow. About a year went by and he seemed lonely and bored, so I adopted a kitten to keep him company. I use the term "kitten" loosely, because what I actually took in is a small tornado powered by a lipo battery. Within literally two months, the hell-spawn had absolutely destroyed the cat tree. The older cat seemed genuinely sad to see it removed from the house in pieces. So I set out to find a proper cat tree, cost-be-damned. I found a small brand that is advertised for mainecoons and sold through Amazon. I took some measurements and cleared out a whole corner of my livingroom for it. Now, the price is steep at several hundred for any given model, but considering that the other one was over $100 and only lasted one year, I decided it was worth a shot. This thing is build like a biblical ark. It showed up in huge, heavy boxes and requires very little assembly. I can actually stand on it - it's solid wood and real carpet, truly the cat tree we remember growing up with, possibly better. The brand is Prestige Cat Trees. I purchased "The Citadel" because it looks like a castle and has plenty of room for all three cats (I have a 14 yo lady in addition to the voids). Pictured atop the tower is Beelzebub himself, weighing in at a lean 12lbs at only six months old. The only caveat I have to the many praises to be sung for this cat tree is that my little wood-chipper shreds the carpet with his acrobatics. It is holding up - for now. I suppose any lesser tree would be in ribbons by now. Anyway, it's not often that I am this impressed with the quality of a purchase nowadays, so I thought I'd share. submitted by /u/Invaderzil to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Apartment cat owners — what do you use instead of cat trees?
I live in a apartment and honestly can’t find a cat tree that – fits in a small space – doesn’t wobble – doesn’t look terrible I keep seeing either massive carpet towers or wall-mounted stuff that feels very permanent. PSA to all cat owners. A Christmas tree danger I had not read on here before.
I have had many cats over the years and I have had some that like the ornaments on a tree and loved laying under the tree, but I never had climbers before. My tux is a menace and so last year I didn't put up a tree at all. This year I attempted it with no ornaments. It's a prelit fake that comes in 3 parts. I sprayed the fake pinecones with some all natural cat repellent which seemed to work for my other 2, but not my tux. Had the tree up for a few days and while he would climb it all seemed pretty uneventful. This morning he climbed and when he went to climb down he found his year paw tangled in a portion of the trees prestrung lights. He freaked out making it worse he spun and was dangling screaming getting himself caught worse. I was able to grab him, pull him up and untangle he paw. The tree is now outside next to the trash and I will be tree free again this year. I am just grateful I was home to help him and grateful it was a paw and not his neck that got stuck. Anyways I just wanted to share because I have read lots of posts but never came across this. submitted by /u/okbringoutdessert to r/TuxedoCats [link] [comments]

Cat stuck on tree for more than 3 days
Seeking advice/help - We have a cat stuck on a tree for at least 3 days. I suspect more as he usually comes around our house every day and we didn’t see him from Feb 19 and then noticed him on the tree on Feb 21st. We have 2-story ladder but it was not tall enough. Called several shelters but they don’t have any climbers, no arborists were interested in coming out of 7 contacted. We’re in Lawrenceville, GA - maybe someone knows a volunteer climber who could help the kitty? It looks miserable and most likely dehydrated. submitted by /u/moofkins to r/cats [link] [comments]

An Actual Quality Cat Tree
I know that cat trees are inherently not a buy it for life item, but I’m tired of buying these poorly built, wobbly ones that fall apart in a year. I have two cats and have been through 3 cat trees in 3 years. I’ve tried Chewy, Amazon, and Wayfair, and they have all been terrible. I’m linking the ones below I would recommend NOT to buy but would love a recommendation for a good one if anyone has any. Chewy (falls over when they jump on it. All carpeting ripped off. Horrible quality): https://www.chewy.com/frisco-69-in-real-carpet-wooden-cat/dp/235520?utm_source=app-share&utm_campaign=235520 Wayfair: they stopped selling it probably because of how bad it was. Brand = New Cat Condos Amazon (this was the best one i’ve owned. It’s a bit small though): https://a.co/d/i7xHeVu submitted by /u/gothpapi to r/BuyItForLife [link] [comments]

Sturdy, large cat trees?
This is Fitz. Fitz used to sleep on top of her cat tree all the time, but stopped when she started hanging over the edges. Then she used it all the time as a stairway to the top of the bookshelves, but now it’s getting wobbly after a 6.5kg (about 14lb) cat jumping down onto it over and over. Is a cat tree a must have? And if so do I need to get it before I bring home the actual cat?
UPDATE: Thank you for all your help. Me and my roommate eneded up finding a decent cat tower and scratcher combo. Hey so I'm looking into getting my first cat as an adult, and I've noticed that a lot of websites list a cat tree / scratcher as both an essential, and one of those things you should have before bringing your kitty home. Is there any truth to that? If so how do I go about buying a cat tree for a cat I don't know anything about (I don't want to start the adoption process until I have everything I need because I think it moves pretty fast in my area)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated because I'm kind of overwhelmed lol. submitted by /u/sarcophagus_pussy to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]

Cat Trees 101
So there's a lot of cat trees out there that look like they are made by people who have never actually lived with a cat or interacted with one. Here are my thoughts, after much research of my own when buying one First of all; This does not apply to every cat, rather a general guide. If you know your cat freaking loves hammocks no matter where they are, then get a cat tree with a hammock. If you don't know if your cat likes hammocks or not... the answer is "probably not" If you know your cat is small/lightweight, you will be less concerned around things like the size of the base or the size of the platforms. Likewise if you have a Maine Coon or one of those massively muscled bengal boys, you want to pay more attention. Look for a cat tree that has a minimum of frippanty, bells, and whistles. This stuff isn't BAD, but 90% of cats will ignore it all or break it quickly, so falls under "probably don't waste your money. Generally includes dangly balls, houses/hides (unless large), the side arm bowl things, hammocks, ladders (they're usually too steep to use and short enough that jumping is easier) a large base (so a cat on the top can't topple it over) large platforms, at least one or two high ones that are big enough to lay on height! That's the point of a cat tree! If it's only three feet tall, it's just a fancy scratch post folks If it's a velvety fabric, it's not a scratch post. They will only scratch the parts with sisal rope or rough carpet. You don't need to have your cat tree double as a scratch post, but many people like them to. seems sturdy! If the top platform starts wobbling because it's made from particle board held together with a wooden peg, the cat will not use it. The exception to all of this is kittens. Kittens are too light to topple a cat tree, can't jump high but can haul themselves up a steep ladder, are small enough to fit in side bowls, tiny platforms, and little houses/hides, and will probably even play with the dangly balls. The average person wants a cat tree that will suit their cat for more than a few months, but if you foster kittens or something by all means go out and buy the most tricked out cat tree on amazon dot com. https://imgur.com/a/spPK1r9 There's one of the crappy ones you'll find on amazon, with a handy guide to why I think it's a terrible cat tree. There are good ones on amazon though, especially if you're on a budget. https://www.cozycatfurniture.com/image/cache/cat-tower-10-scratching-posts-1000x1000h.jpg In contrast, there's one with some useless frippantry but I would still call a quality cat tree. Those dangly balls are horribly placed (where exactly is the cat going to sit to bat at the high one?) and those tiny ladders will never, ever be used (if a cat is too injured, arthritic, or lazy to jump, they will also not be able to use ladders so steep). But the base is big enough, it looks very sturdy, there are big, high platforms to lay on, the sisal rope and carpet are both appealing for scratching. https://www.cozycatfurniture.com/image/cache//four-tier-hardwood-cat-tower-scratcher-1000x1000w.jpg This one? Fantastic. Amazing. Big platforms to lay on, arranged so it's easy to jump from one to another. Tall. A base that makes it very difficult to impossible to topple, and super sturdy and well made. Flat and angled surfaces for scratching. The only change I would make is to wrap at least one post with sisal rope to give a vertical option for scratching. Basically, think of cat trees like kids toys. The best ones are simple, sturdy, leave room for the imagination/free play, and can be used many different ways to do many different things. submitted by /u/RainahReddit to r/CatAdvice [link] [comments]
