Ceiling Light Fixture

I checked the light fixture with my truck battery and ...light itself was not the problem; I put a voltmeter on the wiring from the ceiling... and found no voltage to the fixture, no matter the switch ... work fine. The light has it's own wall switch, in addition to the switch on the fixture, so that seems... switch and water heater light, both of which still work ...

My wife and I had just finished settling in to our new home after two exhausting weeks with our six month old, and I hear a loud bang at about 3 AM. I chalk it up to the cat's antics and was too tired to investigate for the first time all week (I usually do). Come downstairs in the morning and forget about to go find that a water bottle with old smoothie on the counter has turned into a small IED and put a hole in the roof, spraying blueberry paint all over the ceiling, walls, and breaking the light fixture.
