I really appreciate any and all advice! I'd like to either be able to hang a light fixture there, or cut a circle of drywall and cover it up properly, so it blends into the ceiling. Can I do either or both of those things? Or should I hire an electrician to take it down and make it safe? My wife and I had just finished settling in to our new home after two exhausting weeks with our six month old, and I hear a loud bang at about 3 AM. I chalk it up to the cat's antics and was too tired to investigate for the first time all week (I usually do). Come downstairs in the morning and forget about to go find that a water bottle with old smoothie on the counter has turned into a small IED and put a hole in the roof, spraying blueberry paint all over the ceiling, walls, and breaking the light fixture.
