I can never get my chia seed pudding thick like I see some people's. The last recipe I tried was 2 cups milk, 3 tbs chia seeds, and 2-3 tbs instant pudding mix. It was still a bit runnier than I've seen. How do you manage to get a thick pudding consistency? LPT: I’ve lost weight and have more energy by simply eating a handful of walnuts and 2 tbsp of chia seeds with my breakfast
In early February, my weight tipped over 200 lbs (6’ male 30-40 years old) for the first time. I asked a nutritionist friend for dietary advice. They gave lots of advice, but only two things have stuck: I should increase my fiber by adding a tablespoon of chia seeds to my morning coffee and I should eat a handful of walnuts every morning. The walnuts somehow allegedly lower my cholesterol and are slow to digest, which helps people feel full which leads to snack avoidance. Adding these 360 calories to my diet counter intuitively has helped me lose 10 lbs in 12 weeks without making any other conscious changes to my sedentary lifestyle. I feel full all morning, so I no longer have a mid morning snack (most days!). At lunch, I naturally order less and order less high calorie greasy foods as I don’t feel as hungry. Since I’m eating less at lunch, I no longer as tired in the early afternoons. I also save more money. As a heads up the chia seeds in coffee is weird and took a bit to get used to, but I now love them. You soak the chia seeds for like 15 minutes (or overnight) and they produce this gel like consistency which I then stir in to my morning coffee. It makes the coffee thicker and feels textured from the seeds. I now like it, but definitely not for everyone. Not sure this will help anyone else, but has been very useful for me to consistently lose weight in a very low effort way. While this has anecdotally worked great for me, there is also a lot of literature on the benefits. Chia seed recipes? Not pudding or in a protein shake.
I like having chia seeds in my diet because of the high fiber content, they're cost effective to buy in bulk, and they don't really taste like anything. But the texture it creates when soaked in liquids makes me want to gag. I have been adding 3 Tbsp to my protein shakes daily. However, when blended, it makes my protein shake the consistency of mucus. Before I started adding it to my protein, I was making chia seed pudding, which also has an end result texture of mucus. I've been choking these down for the nutrition factor; I can't do it anymore. Chia Seed Pudding
I have been considering trying chia seed pudding, but I was so worried that I would hate the texture, so many people calling it gelatinous and like eating boogers or something lol I have been struggling with constipation since going on Wellbutrin (sorry if TMI lol) and have not had much luck with psyllium husk or just upping my veggies, so I took the plunge and started looking up recipes for chia seed pudding since it has so much fiber and I think would help more than what I have tried so far. I came across a recipe last night that was really simple and claimed that it was super creamy and not gross, so I made a keto version of that recipe and honestly, I'm overall impressed! So for any of you on the fence, try this: 1/2 cup half & half or heavy cream 1/2-3/4 cup yogurt 2 tbsp Erythritol/Monkfruit, granulated splash of vanilla extract 2 tbsp cocoa powder 1/4 cup chia seeds -Mix it all together and let it sit in the fridge overnight, that's it! Makes 2 servings. I might try blending up the chia seeds next time because I am having issues withe the seeds getting stuck in my teeth. But the thicker liquids and the yogurt totally make it non-gelatinous and it's really not bad! How to actually use chia seeds?
Recently trying to make some oatmeals, had a bad experience. while researching i found chia seeds tried the only way i knew them, soak them in water overnight and drink the next day. which was a decent experience for me. someone said to add sugar and lemon and drink chilled. well this was good but i was thinking of trying to consume it via eating. so i want to go back to the oatmeal thing because that's my only breakfast most of the time (and the one thing i can make decently). please can anybody help me give a good recipe which tastes good 😭😭😭. also one more doubt, i read somewhere that i should grind the chia seeds before consuming them? is it true or i can just use them normally submitted by /u/LangdaHu to r/cookingforbeginners [link] [comments]

UPDATE: it’s been a week now since I posted this so I figured I’d share an update. After this first experience with chia seeds I decided to stop all the other things I was doing and only take the nightly chia seeds to see if it really was the key. 7 days now I have pooped every morning since. I’m starting to make new recipes for chia pudding with almond milk and yogurt, lots of fun combos, and pooping like a champ. According to chat GPT, chia seeds form a gel like substance in the colon which helps soften and move stool through. Some people’s bodies respond better to than rather than a powder form of fiber. I guess this is what my body needed so I’m gonna stick with it! I hope it helps someone else! I was going through this thread last night when I couldn’t sleep, and came across some people saying they take 2 tbsp of soaked chia seeds before bed and it helps them poop. I’ve been backed up for about 5 days so I figured I’d give it a go. I got out of bed and soaked 2 tbsp of chia seeds in a glass of water for 5 minutes then chugged it down. I just woke up (about 7 hours later) and I am currently having a huge, easy poop!! Is 30g of Chia Seeds daily too much?
I’ve recently started making an overnight oats recipe on Sunday and have it Monday-Friday. I try to aim for 30+ grams of fiber daily. With lunch (black beans) dinner (edamame) and breakfast (oats/chia seeds) and whatever fruits/protein bar throughout the day that have fiber. I shoot for 30 grams/~3 tablespoons because that’s just the serving size on the bag. Everywhere I read though it seems people are recommending less / also soaking them. I don’t soak them prior to mixing the ingredients together I just figure them sitting in the fridge overnight-few days may be soaking them. Any information would be great! I try incorporating them into my diet to help with better bowel movement, but wouldn’t say there’s been a stark difference. I have a giant container of chia seeds that seems to be never ending. if you eat chia seeds, what do you have them in?
I’ve been having chia puddings for breakfast at least 5 days a week or else I get so uncomfortably constipated and have pain after using the toilet (i don’t have any pain when I’ve been having the puddings). Except, i HATE the texture of the pudding lol. I didn’t mind it but didn’t like it originally and do feel it was worth it, but I’m sure there are better ways! How do you have them? Use for Chia seeds in baking?
My teenaged son purchased a 2 lb bag of chia seeds a couple years ago to use as a protein enhancer in smoothies (at least, I think that was the intension). My husband’s bowels staged a coup after he tried to eat “clean” for three whole days
You know how some couples bond by working out together? Or meal prepping? Or doing morning walks? My husband and I bond by playing daily games of “what new food item will betray his digestive system today.” This week’s installment began when my husband (40M) decided he wanted to “clean up his gut.” Now, this is the same man who once deep-fried a Pop-Tart because he wanted to “experiment.” The same man who thought taking a fiber supplement and eating 20 chicken wings was "balance." So when he suddenly started Googling things like “gut health” and “low FODMAP recipes,” I got nervous. Real nervous. For three days straight, he only ate boiled veggies, brown rice, and something that vaguely resembled tofu but had the texture of a wet band-aid. Then he added a chia smoothie. Because why not throw a gallon of jelly seeds into a system already on strike? Fast forward to night three: We’re in bed. I’m half asleep. He turns to me and says, “Babe my insides feel like they’re gentrifying.” I ask what that even means. He responds by letting out a fart so long and complex it could have been an orchestral overture. I’m talking crescendo, movement changes, and a final brass section that set off the carbon monoxide detector. I left the room. The dog left the room. Even Alexa asked if we wanted to call emergency services. The next day, he started clutching his side like he was in a Shakespeare play and announced that he might have a twisted colon. Not a real diagnosis. Just vibes. So he goes to the gastroenterologist, and after several tests, scans, and what I assume was a high-stakes round of “Name That Smell,” they confirm: IBS. With Lactose Intolerance. And “mild food sensitivity to everything he loves.” Great. He comes home looking like he lost a custody battle with his own colon. But instead of being careful, he takes the new list of “safe foods” and decides that “moderation” is just a polite suggestion. He eats an entire tub of hummus, half a watermelon, and what I’m pretty sure was three servings of Brussels sprouts. All in one sitting. Like a goat. That night, he transformed into a sentient whoopee cushion. I had to Google “how to safely open windows during a storm” just to survive. At one point I honestly thought the walls were breathing. And then came The Great Yogurt Incident. I told him, kindly, to avoid dairy. He nodded. Smiled. Said “I got this.” Then I found him in the kitchen at 2am, double-fisting Greek yogurt and shredded cheddar cheese like some kind of protein goblin. He looked me in the eyes and said, “The probiotics cancel the dairy.” That’s not how science works. That’s not how anything works. Long story short: he’s now grounded from unsupervised grocery shopping, I’ve removed all dairy from the house, and he’s only allowed to have tofu if I’m watching. Also, the dog still won’t sleep in our room. He has PTSD from last Thursday’s cheddar hurricane. Marriage is beautiful.
