Do people really believe China is a threat?
I just don’t understand why the mainstream is always talking about China as the biggest threat to the United States. In the last century, the mainstream focused on the Soviet Union as an enormous threat to the U.S., and eventually we all saw that this empire collapsed. As far as I know, China has a lot of serious problems. Some talented scientists have had their work plagiarized internally by their professors, which has forced them to leave China for Western countries in search of better opportunities. The young population in China is no longer having children, and after 10 years the population may start to decline significantly. Moreover, Chinese society has many issues with corruption and justice. submitted by /u/Blackdog_6326 to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

People who use China as a boogieman to compare the US to have never been to China.
We've all heard people in political conversations say shit like "dO yOu wANt uS To be mOrE liKE ChiNa?!" Well, my wife is a Chinese immigrant, and I recently got the privilege to visit China. With this new prospective, yeah I 100% want the US to be more like China. Now before I get the smartasses who are going to point out "☝️🤓 Well actually China did a bad thing once or has X flaw." Yeah, I am not saying by any means that China is perfect, it has plenty of it's own flaws. However, the cities are clean, like really clean. I saw more people employed by the city to clean up than I saw individual pieces of litter. There was no graffiti. They have well maintained public parks with clean fitness equipment, art installations and beautiful architecture everywhere. A huge variety of trees and flowers even in the midde of the city, many of which are fruit trees for the public. Food is cheap and good, small businesses are thriving in every nook and cranny you can find. There's very very few homeless people about, and ordinary people seem very content with daily life. Kids can walk safely to and from school unattended, people leave their bikes, purses, and bags left alone in public spaces with no fear of theft. They don't have police in the same way the US does, I see them all over, but they're more like unarmed public servants. I see them giving directions, helping people carry things, and generally being friendly and helpful. There are QR codes all over to contact your officials with their name and numbers. If your street or district is dirty you can send them a message and they will literally send cleaning crews within a day. I am genuinely fucking flabbergasted that people in other countries think their tax dollars can't go to the betterment of the public and normal people after visiting China. For all of China's flaws, averge people in Chinese cities live way more comfortable lives than people in the US hands down. submitted by /u/King_Lothar_ to r/TrueUnpopularOpinion [link] [comments]
