Hi all. Someone asked for more progress pics so I thought I would post. I’ve gotten 3 laser treatments now (just got my third 6 days ago) and am posting pics from my 2nd treatment. So far I think I got pretty good progress in the temples and it looks a lot smoother. The second laser was in December so it’s been a while. The first pic is from 13 days post 2nd laser and the next 2 are 2.5 months post laser. I tried to get same lighting as best as possible but I think there is improvement. This is all with fractional co2 laser. I’ll also post again pictures of my skin (last 3 photos) of my temples showing how deep they were. This was about 4-5 years ago. Hi everyone, I’m looking to connect with people who’ve had post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) after fractional CO₂ laser. I had CO₂ fractional laser for acne scars on Dec 2. Healing went normally (red → pink → brown), but now I’m left with visible light-to-medium brown PIH, especially noticeable by people even after putting tinted sunscreen payer on skin. I’m here 19 days post-laser. My skin type: Indian / brown skin (likely Fitzpatrick IV) Current routine (derm-guided): • Gentle cleanser • moisturiser • Photostable Gold SPF (strict, reapplied), and then on top of it I put tinted sunscreen of dot and key 50+ spf • Avoiding sun as much as possible Concerns: • PIH looks darker than earlier days • Tinted sunscreen doesn’t fully hide it • I have office + family functions coming up in early Jan • Mentally struggling because people notice and ask questions Questions for those who’ve been through this: Is PIH looking darker around week 2–3 normal before it fades? When did you see visible lightening (weeks, not months)? Did yours fade without aggressive treatments? I consulted a doctor on Practo he said I should do Q switched laser or chemical peel but other one said don’t go for any treatment What actually helped the most — time, sunscreen, azelaic/kojic, tranexamic, etc.? Any realistic timelines for 90 % improvement? Please share real experiences, especially if you have medium to darker skin. I’m not looking for miracle claims, just honest journeys. In addition to that I also been using tazarotene .1% since January of this year and for the last 4 months I’ve been doing microneedling. So far I’ve seen zero improvements, I think the laser really helped with evening the skin tone but that’s it. I just wasted $1,200 plus the Alastin pre and post treatment care, that was another extra $200. I feel so dumb for wasting all that money from my savings and seeing zero improvements. A few months ago I shared my 2 week post-op update after having a deep plane facelift, and since then I’ve received so many messages and DMs asking for a follow-up. So here I am, 3.5 months out! To recap, I’m 50 years old and had a deep plane facelift, vertical neck lift, temporal lift, and partial fat transfer with Dr. Balikian with Balikian Plastic Surgery in CA. My main concerns were sagging jowls, skin laxity, and my neck. You can see more of his work on social media if you’re curious - he just posted my before and afters! How I’m feeling now: I’m happy with my results! Healing was rough in the beginning (as expected), but manageable. I went back to work by day 12. The swelling was most noticeable the first two weeks, then slowly tapered off. That tight “band” feeling under my neck eased up around week 4, and the general tightness subsided around week 6. I still have some numbness on the sides near my ears and parts of my scalp, but that’s normal and can take months to resolve. Weird but true:I kind of miss the swelling?? 🤣 🫠During the healing process, the subtle puffiness added this soft fullness that I weirdly liked. It made my face look plump in a youthful way! But I’m also happy with how everything has settled. By month 3, my cheekbone definition started coming back and now everything looks really natural. I’m not sure how much of the fat transfer I am retaining, I’m hoping that I don’t lose too much of it. Reactions:I told very few people about the surgery, and not one person has called me out that I look “different”, which I take as a good thing! My friends who do know say I look refreshed and natural, and they keep raving about my jawline and neck. That was my biggest insecurity and exactly the result I hoped for! A few critiques: * I wish I had done the CO2 laser. It was suggested for the crepey skin under my eyes, and I think it would’ve complimented everything else nicely, but I just couldn’t swing it financially at the time. * I had one stubborn suture underneath my skin in my temple area that wasn’t dissolving and caused a noticeable lump, but Dr. Balikian easily removed it in-office. There’s another one also being a bit stubborn but not as noticeable and should dissolve over time. About Dr. Balikian & the experience:I had a great experience with my surgeon and his team. I didn’t want to look “done,” I didn’t want to be talked into things I didn’t need, and I definitely didn’t want to leave looking like I lost a staring contest with a leaf blower. Dr. Balikian got it. He understood my concerns, gave honest feedback, and had a calm, confident demeanor that made me feel comfortable the entire time. I was nervous (because surgery), but his team made me feel completely safe and taken care of. I still look like me, just a version that gets 8 hours of sleep and stays hydrated. (I don’t). I'm 9 days post CO2 laser treatment and I was very scared going into it, in big part because of reddit horror stories about it. Face melting off, etc... Happy to say that my recovery has been okay! I knew going in that I would not leave the house for 1-2 weeks so I had to plan for that. It's really important to have a clear schedule because I don't think the stress of having to be ready to go back to work in a week or 10 days would help the healing. The procedure itself was pretty unpleasant. I got dental block freezing but because of a reaction I had to the lidocaine, they didn't do the full face and so I felt some of it and it was very painful. The parts that were properly frozen, I felt nothing. First night I had pinpoint bleeding, swelling and lots of oozing. I've had the most success sleeping on a recliner and I think it helped to keep my swelling to a minimum. When the skin got crusty before peeling, it went very dark and I was worried about hyperpigmentation but the skin underneath is fine. I have some faint grid marks but I honestly expected worse. I'm almost done with the peeling and I'm happy with the results so far. I know the results will continue for up to 6 months but I'm already seeing a much clearer complexion and a difference in fine lines. I'm red at the moment but was expecting a major sunburn look and it's not that bad. If anyone comes across this and is thinking about CO2 but not sure about it, I'm happy to answer any questions. I'm usually the person who has the worst recovery so I'm a bit surprised at how relatively smooth it's been! Bottom line for me, it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Keep your expectations realistic and be vigilant about the aquaphor and the vinegar/water soaks and you'll be fine. I was also quite itchy and have been very careful not to touch my face at all. Good luck if you're thinking about doing it. I know everyone's journey is different. I wish I had read a post similar to mine when I was getting ready for it! I'm day 11 after treatment, still a bit red, and I haven't been taking care of my skin for the past 3 days. Just had my gallbladder out and I'm recovering. I can tell I'm still healing around the treated area. Skin is a bit tight feeling. I have to get back on the washing and moisturizing twice a day train ASAP. I think I can see a little bit of improvement from the first Helix to the second Helix treatment. I hope, as it continues to heal, I'll see more. The nurses say it can take up to 6 months to see the final results. I'm definitely happy with the results. If I could only choose to do 3 microneedling treatments ($1200), or 1 Helix treatment (which would include the whole face price) $1100, I'd definitely go with the Helix for the wrinkles.
