23 years of scar treatment
Thought I'd share my journey (pic 1 2005, pic 2 2026). I'm 48, started treating my scars around the age of 27. I've done many, many treatments, and many were a waste of time for MY type of scars and severity. Posting this in the hopes of helping people avoid some of the mistakes I initially made, as I didn't know any better. Different treatments are good for different types of scars and skin conditions, just because someone is offering you a treatment, doesn't mean it will be beneficial for you. You live and you learn (hopefully). Treatments as follows: 2005 - Present: SPF 70 daily - protects the collagen you have and prevents your scars from aging poorly. I regularly get mistaken for 15 years younger now. 2006-2007: 12 Fraxel treatments - very little improvement - at this point in time Fraxel was not strong enough for my type of scars. This put me off of lasers for a while. 2016: 2 fractional CO2 laser treatments - maybe 15-20% improvement. I do not think he was very aggressive and I didn't even ask what type of laser it was. ALWAYS find out what laser it is, they are NOT all the same. But my healing was fairly quick, so not the treatment I needed. 2017-2024: dozens upon dozens of dermaroller microneedling sessions. Improvement in tone but just not aggressive or deep enough for noticeable improvement for the depth of my scars. 2021: 6 RF microneedling sessions - maybe moderate improvement. Less than 10%, so didn't move the needle much. 2023-2026: Tretinoin - 0.25% > 0.50% > 0.1%. Been on it 3 years now, totally changed my skin. I feel like it's a must to encourage collagen growth. My skin looks healthier near 50 than it did at 35. 2023-2025: HA filler, 4 sessions - used to address my larger rolling scars, and I'd say about 80+% improvement at this point. Very happy with this one. 2024-2025: 8+ DrPen at home microneedling sessions - moderately aggressive. 2+ mm depth in scarred areas. Very mild improvement - but probably more than I realize, because it takes a long time to see the results. Usually pink for 3-4 days from these. Probably great for mild scars. 2025: 2 Ultraclear laser treatments with microcoring - maybe 10% improvement - he did not go very aggressive in my opinion - I was lightly pink for maybe 10-12 days after the initial healing. I think this is a good option for darker skin tones with an experienced provider. 2025 Dec: 1 Lumenis Ultrpulse DeepFX/TotalFX laser - 15-20% improvement from 1 treatment. This is the single most aggressive laser I have had and the first time I really noticed marked improvement from a single treatment. 7 days of downtime (like you aren't leaving the house), and then pink for nearly 8 weeks which I used coverup to hide. Skin looked worse at first, but at around 8-10 weeks my skin started to look better than ever. Just over 4 months out and there is more improvement to come. I'm having session two later this week. Paid $5,200 total covering both sessions. Found this laser and a provider after being disappointed in my previous laser experiences. Did a ton of research looking for the most effective laser for severe scarring. Overall: I feel like my boxscar/icepicks have improved around 60%. My rolling scars have improved around 80%. I credit most improvement from the fractional CO2 treatments and the HA filler. Previously my boxscars were clearly visible in any light, now they are faint shadows in the harshest light. I feel like I wasted decades by not knowing what treatment was the best for my type of scars. I now realize I wasted a lot of time and money by not doing my research. 2 -3 sessions of the Lumenis Ultrapulse laser seems like it will surpass all of the other treatments I've done previously (there are a couple of lasers in this class just as effective , not pushing this one). I am planning on doing at least one subcision/filler round after I've healed from the next laser session to address some remaining rolling scars, and then I'm hoping I am happy for the foreseeable future. Long story short, make sure you are doing an aggressive enough treatment (and the right type) for the severity/type of your scars or you will be chasing treatment after treatment. In hindsight, I would have opted for a very aggressive laser in my 20's combined with subcision/filler over what I went through and the money I spent. Edit: title should say 21 years of scar treatment.. 🤷 submitted by /u/SDS9977 to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

Does anyone have experience with fractional laser for acne scarring and recommendations for dermatologists that provide it (or other modalities) in the area?
Hey friends, my skin is no longer acne prone, but I have facial acne scars from the glory of my high school years, mostly atrophic rolling scars. I would love some advice from anyone that has experience with medical treatments for their own acne scarring. I have previously done TCA peels and microneedling with some good results for the hyperpigmentation. What I am looking for at this juncture is a more intense procedure (CO2 laser etc.) that could lead to vast improvement of the deeper scars. Have you personally experienced improvement in your own scars, with what modality, and with what clinic? Many thanks! submitted by /u/bapavao to r/askportland [link] [comments]

29 F need help with acne scars treatment
I’ve been seeing a dermatologist for the past two years for acne. The medications have helped control my breakouts, but I haven’t seen much improvement in my skin texture or acne scars. My current prescription includes a Vitamin C serum and adapalene. Recently, I visited him again to discuss my concerns about the scars. I’ve read about treatments like subcision, CO2 laser, MNRF, and resurfacing that can help reduce their appearance. However, he told me that such procedures could permanently damage or burn my skin and that it may not recover. Since I trust him, I’m confused about whether I should seek a second opinion or just accept my skin as it is. He has advised me to continue using adapalene gel for at least three years. What should I do? Does anyone have any recommendations? I live in Delhi. submitted by /u/Softrebirth97 to r/IndianSkincareAddicts [link] [comments]

Acne scar progress. Fractional co2 laser
Hi all. Someone asked for more progress pics so I thought I would post. I’ve gotten 3 laser treatments now (just got my third 6 days ago) and am posting pics from my 2nd treatment. So far I think I got pretty good progress in the temples and it looks a lot smoother. The second laser was in December so it’s been a while. The first pic is from 13 days post 2nd laser and the next 2 are 2.5 months post laser. I tried to get same lighting as best as possible but I think there is improvement. This is all with fractional co2 laser. I’ll also post again pictures of my skin (last 3 photos) of my temples showing how deep they were. This was about 4-5 years ago. It’s the same bedroom I am taking the pictures in. Hope this was helpful submitted by /u/charleslevi67 to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

My Experience with UltraClear (Cold Fiber Laser) in Seoul: Better than CO2/Fraxel?
Hi everyone! beauty influencer here living in Seoul! Since I also run a medical tourism company, I get to see a lot of the "behind the scenes" of K-beauty, but I’m super picky about what I actually put on my own face. I finally pulled the trigger and tried the UltraClear laser at Salon de Dr. Tunes in Cheongdam. I’ve been struggling with some stubborn acne scars and just wanted that "glass skin" rejuvenation everyone talks about. Here’s the tea: The clinic is owned by Dr. Na and it is boujie. Super clean, luxury vibes, and very professional. It’s in Cheongdam, so you know it’s high-end. Dr. Na is a total pro, which is huge because you DO NOT want a random person burning your face with these machines. If you’ve done CO2 or Fraxel before, you know they burn like crazy and the downtime is a nightmare. UltraClear is different—it’s a "cold laser. Basically, it doesn't cook your skin with heat like the old lasers. It’s way more precise. Dr. Na used a specific mode on me to target my deep scars and just refresh my whole face. So Okay, let’s be honest. During the treatment? It’s fine because of the numbing cream. BUT, once that numbing cream wears off... omg. It’s spicy. 🔥 You definitely need to be patient and just power through the first few hours. It’s not a "painless" miracle, but for the results I got, it was 100% worth it. It cost me 2,000,000 KRW (roughly $1,300 - $1,400 USD). It’s definitely a premium treatment and you won't find this machine at those cheap "factory" clinics in Gangnam. I’m actually obsessed with the results. My skin looks so much clearer and the texture is actually smooth for once. Check the video I posted to see the actual progress! submitted by /u/Basic_Club_3650 to r/KoreaSeoulBeauty [link] [comments]

Honest Advice Needed: CO2 Laser First, Then Microneedling for Atrophic Scars?
Hi everyone, I’m planning to do a CO2 laser treatment for atrophic acne scars located under my cheekbone (you can see them in the photo). The photos are taken under different lighting conditions to give a more realistic idea of how the scars look in real life. After the CO2, I’m thinking about starting microneedling, but I’ve read many conflicting opinions — some people say that once you stop microneedling, the scars come back. Is that actually true? And based on your experience, do you think microneedling would be effective for scars like mine? submitted by /u/littlem0ch1 to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

I’m 33 and finally got SmartSkin CO2 laser for my acne scars
I’ve been bothered by my acne scars my entire adult life. Now that I’m financially comfortable, I pulled the trigger on an ablative and fractional CO2 laser procedure yesterday. Although I look like a juicy lil tomato lizard man right now, the results feel and look almost instant. I’m thrilled! Just wanted to share with this subreddit. I’d be happy to answer any questions! Progress pics are as follows; (1) 40 minutes post treatment, (2) first night post treatment, (3) one full day post treatment. The severe swelling, redness, oozing is intense and started basically 20 minutes after the first photo. submitted by /u/spread_eaglet to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

Tetra Pro Co2 Laser
Hi All, I suffered from very severe acne (picture 1). I took accutane and my acne has healed, but i've been left with some acne scars (pictures 2and3). I got my first co2 laser treatment with a tetra pro laser, and this is what my face looked like immediately after (picture 4) the redness went away 3 days later and now 40 days later here is what it looks like (picture 5). I feel like i haven't seen much improvement. Has anyone ever also received this kind of laser treatment. Again, the redness was completely gone after 3-4 days. My derm told me it would take 3-4 treatments to see 80%ish improvement. Does anyone have any experience with this laser? Also, is there any collagen supplements or creams anyone recommends also using or other treatment that should be used to supplement the laser. How long should i wait between treatments with this shorter downtime? Thank you! submitted by /u/Sirisano to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

Acne scars worse after First CO2 Laser treatment
The first 2 pictures are before. The really red picture is 15minutes after. And the last picture is 10 days after. The redness is definitely gone and it's been 10 days. I felt like my scars looked so good when my face was red but my derm said it was because my face was swollen making the scars look smoother and better. Now that it's healed more i feel like you could still see my scars. Is it possible they got worse? I read on here about hyperpigmentation and dark marks after scarring treatment. My derm said it's not really a concern, but wanted to get others takes if it looks like that's what happened here. I'm still going to do 3-4 more treatments so we'll see. I'm praying for the best! This is my first time doing all this so any advice or creams to use to help my skin would be super appreciated❤️ submitted by /u/Sirisano to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

Acne scar treatment progress
Early this spring, I asked for advice here about my acne scars. After that, I started searching for a dermatologist who could genuinely help — someone experienced, realistic, and not overpromising. I went through a few clinics before finding one where the doctor really took his time. He examined my scars carefully under different lighting, stretched and pinched my cheeks, and identified each scar type, which finally gave me confidence to start treatment. So far, I’ve had: First subcision procedure in mid-June Second session in late July One HA filler treatment in early September Each session was spaced about a month apart. Since I don’t live in the same place anymore, taking consistent photos has been tricky, but I tried to keep conditions similar: same time of day (around two hours after waking up), one day after shaving, no moisturizer, natural window light, and a similar angle. First picture is before. I’m showing just one cheek in these photos, even though I have scars on both sides and on my temples. The other cheek shows a similar improvement, and the temples are now almost clear after the injectable, so they don’t really bother me anymore. Because I see my face every day, noticing gradual changes has been hard, but shaving feels smoother now, and I’ve received a few compliments about my skin healing — from people who didn’t even know I was getting treatments. For context, I’m also taking 20mg of accutane per week. The biggest improvement came after the first procedure, followed by the second. The injectable gave a small extra boost that I can feel more than I can see in photos. Next, my dermatologist plans to do co2 ablative laser procedure using a focused handpiece to work on individual scars. After that, we’ll repeat the injectable and then reassess to see what my skin still needs. The full plan will finish with a vascular laser to reduce any remaining redness. Let me know guys what you think about it. submitted by /u/JustConsequence2237 to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

2nd Subcision + RFMN + 2nd Co2 Laser Result
Hey Guys, Here’s a quick update on my last Procedure. 14 days ago, i got Canula Subcision + Radiofrequency Microneedling (on high settings) + Fractional Co2 Laser (also on high settings) and I’m absolutely more than happy with the outcome so far!!! Since it have only been 2 weeks now, there’s a chance that there is still some microswelling left, but i’m praying to god it will more or less stay like that. This is my 2nd Subcision, after the first i was already seeing some huge improvement but not enough to make me fully happy with my scars, last time, the scars started to come back more or less around day 7, so i’m over this point now which makes me optimistic that this time the improvement will be much bigger. I also had a Co2 Laser done before in December, which gave me a bit of improvement in Texture but the subcision back in January was the key for my scars to get the real improvement. I’m at the point now, if it stays like that i’m fully happy with my scars and wont do any procedures in the upcoming future. The shadow which bothered me so much is 90% gone and there’s only some texture left. But hey, nobody’s perfect. This time the Procedure was so invasive and hurt like hell and the anxiety for side effects afterwards was something i don’t wanna experience again. I’m sharing my Pictures on here to show you that treatments can make a huge difference, cause this sub can be so toxic and negative. If you have any questions let me know. The Before Pictures is after my first Co2 without the Subcision. The After Picture is from Today :) submitted by /u/flxxxbmn to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

Significant Improvement After First Acne Scar Treatment – Worth the Investment!
Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience after my first acne scar treatment session last week, and honestly, I’m beyond satisfied with the results so far. I went in for a combination treatment that included fillers, TCA CROSS, subcision, hybrid fillers, and fractional CO2 laser, which cost around $1,000 USD. It was definitely an investment, but seeing the improvement has made it absolutely worth it. The biggest difference I’ve noticed is the minimal creasing when I smile—the tethered scars have been lifted significantly, making my skin look so much smoother. I was expecting some improvement, but this exceeded my expectations. There are still some missed spots with tethered scars, so I’ll be going back for another session, but I’m already feeling much more confident. If you’re considering acne scar treatments, I highly recommend doing your research and consulting a professional. Seeing this kind of progress after just one session makes me really optimistic for the final results! Has anyone else had a similar experience? Would love to hear about your journey! submitted by /u/chadjakez to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

Honest review of every scar treatment that i've tried
1st pic: August 2024 2nd pic: Dec 2024 (Slightly different lighting but both are under sunlight) My main concerns: Rolling scars, Box scars, PIE 1st treatment (Sep 2024): subcision with cannula + CO2 laser Review: A really significant improvement for my atrophic scars, but the pie persisted. Co2 was great for the atrophic scars but not the hyperpigmentation 2nd treatment (Oct 2024): subcision with needle + pico laser Review: This time I decided to go for pico laser. Again, saw results for my atrophic scars from the subcision, but the pico laser did nothing for my pie 3rd treatment (Nov 2024 at a different clinic): subcision with needle + yellow laser Review: The derm recommended me yellow laser (which i've never heard of) for my pie and literally cleared like 30% of my pie. (which is insane) Subcision works great as usual. Takeaway: -CO2 and Pico dont do much for PIE but my derm said they are great for PIH. -Subcision works best for atrophic scars whether if it's shallow or deep. -If the clinic try to sell you 6x Co2 or 6x Microneedling, RUN. Scar treatment has to be combination of treatments, TCA, Laser, Subcision etc. -CO2 laser smooths out skin texture but if the scars are tethered, you will only see 50-60% improvement no mather how many session u do. -Yellow laser works really really well for PIE so you might wanna consider it, minimal downtime (But I think it's more common in Asia). -I've done microneedling twice last year, but it really did nothing for me. I see microneedling as more of a "maintenance" rather than an actual scars treatment, they do smooth out your skin a little but that's really it. I hope you found this useful🙏 submitted by /u/New_Minute_9580 to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

Acne scar progress - 4 CO2
Continuing to see great progress. I’m a little more than three weeks out since my fourth round of CO2 fractional laser treatment. This time the setting used directly on top of my scars was a little more aggressive and it seems to be paying off great especially on my deeper scars. In the first photo the before picture was after round 2 and I don’t have prior photos with overhead lighting. This represents the improvement after two rounds. Really wish I had taken a good pre photo as originally it was even deeper. Second photo is my better side and while the scars are still there a bit, they are significantly less deep to the point where you can barely see the texture anymore. I will probably be fully happy with this side after just one more round (honestly I’m really happy with it already - just want to see how far I can take it). All scars were probably around 5-10+ years old. I haven’t had acne in maybe 7 years and haven’t had bad acne in over a decade. Treatment started in April of this year. Each fractional CO2 round had been spaced between 4-6 weeks apart. I have been really really really careful with sun protection. I won’t go out without a hat and often wear a jacket with face protection or a face scarf as well. All photos are with overhead lighting to try to show the texture as much as possible. I intend to do a minumum of 5 rounds but likely will continue doing it until I’m happy, especially with the side of my face with deeper scars. Treatment was from my local dermatologist office. I won’t give the location - they don’t specialize in scarring. They just happen to have a fractional CO2 laser. They don’t offer any other scar types of treatment like TCA Or subscision. Just sharing to show that acne scar improvement is absolutely possible. Will post again after round 5 coming up in a few more weeks. You can see my whole face and how it looks with respect to scarring in decent lighting in another post I’ve made recently. submitted by /u/mathislife112 to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]

My CO2 Laser + Filler + Microneedling Update & Thoughts…
Hello community! Today I am just giving some updates on my progress now that my treatments have had some time to heal. Well, what do you all think? Personally, I am very happy with the results. Reddit only lets me post 3 photos at a time, but I can post more in the comments (I have been documenting the progress from the front and both sides, but this side was the worst). Here I am before, after, and now. I have mostly rolling scars with some boxcars on my cheeks and chin, I would call my scarring moderate, maybe slightly severe in some areas. I underwent an aggressive CO2 laser session on the lower half of my face in October. It cost $1200 and it was very painful! I can post pictures but they are not for the faint of heart. Obviously during this time I was very uncomfortable and anxious and could not leave the house, but I was grateful my derm was always available to alleviate any concerns I had. So that is something to consider when doing treatments like this, it’s not a “2 week and you’re back to normal” type deal. She also gave me 3 free microneedling sessions because the laser did leave a few grid marks as you may see. Another risk I don’t see discussed ever. I still have some hyperpigmentation and residual redness as well, but my derm also gave me a hydroquinone cream for that and it’s fading every day, so it doesn’t bother me. It’s easily covered with make up. But the CO2 laser definitely made my skin overall so much smoother and I would say I’m very satisfied with my results. Of course I am not looking for perfection, just noticeable improvement. In early December I had 2 vials of Bellafill injected into some of my scars and the areas where I had volume loss. This was also $1200 total. I think this made a huge difference. My derm also performed subscision while she did this using a blunt cannula. It turned into a yellowish bruise and was a little sore but that was nothing compared to the CO2, although the subcision felt every weird even with numbing. Now I am just playing the waiting game since both the CO2 and Bellafill take up to 6 months to see full results. But I’m happy so far and just wanted to show you guys realistically what you get with these treatments and this type or scarring. submitted by /u/goldberry-fey to r/AcneScars [link] [comments]
