RE:I'm Getting A Kitchen Remodel & New Flooring Throughout
... good part of my granddaughter’s college tuition and campus housing. Now... get new flooring throughout the apartment, except for the bathroom. It... not a fan of gray decor; IMO it’s a current trend.... Even our timeshare used gray decor in their last remodel. But... than the rest of the apartment because what works in the ... space and vice versa. The apartment tiles will be the same ...

i'm a bitter Gen Z'er. i know you're sick of hearing us complain, but it really just isn't fair.
I'm bitter that the older generations climbed to the top and took the ladder with them. I'm bitter they bought all the affordable housing and are now selling them for a 1000% markup. I'm bitter that the retirement age will be raised and yet I'm still getting taxed for their social security. I'm bitter that they hold most of the leadership positions at my corporation and refuse to invest in the younger generations. I've been economically cheated out of living my life and I'm just bitter. I know it's not a healthy feeling and I'm not proud of it. But I don't know what the point of anything is when there's just no incentive anymore to keep trying. I could give you a list of grievances I have as a Gen Z'er, but I'm in the apartment-hunting cycle again and I've been reminded how pointless and hopeless this all is. I know this comes with living in an expensive city as I am native to one, but it's so demoralizing to dedicate 40+ hours of my LIFE to a corporate job and still have THREE roommates. I am in the 75th percentile of income for people my age and I work hard. I don't intend to marry or have a significant other to split the rent with as romance is not something I'm not really intended to experience. How can I even begin to build the life I want when a studio in Brooklyn is $3000? It keeps raising and I'm not getting paid more to match it. I can't catch up. I'll never catch up. I'm in my mid-twenties and my current apartment with three roommates looks like a college house. I'm so sick of being a nomad. I want a place I can call home. I want a place I can decorate. What's the point of working half my life away and still living in squalor? I'm sure I sound like a brat. Living alone is a luxury, I know, and it's not something I need to experience now but I'm grieving over the fact that it's something I most likely will never experience with the way things are going. I don't know what the point is anymore in all of this, and I'm bitter that nihilism is now so deeply engrained into me. --- ETA: ETA 2: edit of edit. for clarity and to add point #4 ETA #3: i think i accidentally deleted a portion of my second edit. my bad if it looks wonky jesus christ this post gained a lot of traction. i feel obligated to clarify a few things regarding the discourse: my intent wasn’t to start a generational debate or to garner any sympathy for myself, it was just to get some things off my chest as i’ve felt really suffocated and nihilistic lately. whether you think i’m entitled to these feelings or i’m just being whiny i truly — and i cannot emphasize this enough — dont gaf. Boomers/Gen X “Try Not to Make Everything About Me” challenge. i don’t gaf about how much “harder” you think you had it as a Boomer or Gen X’er. because the truth is: you didn’t. lol. and stop trying to convince me you did you’re all melodramatic and awful (not so fun being on the other side, eh?). if you want to complain about your suffering, hijack someone else’s conversation or maybe - i don’t know - start your own. and stop cosplaying a forgiving economy as hard work and grit. your PeePaw who worked at the Planters Peanut factory for 50 years did not work harder than the average Gen Z’er because he was able to buy his first house at 24. if you truly believe that, i urge you to stop your family from procreating, as exposing the human race to your imbecile DNA is nothing short of biological terrorism. to those telling me i should move away from the city - where should i move to, pray tell? my native city of Los Angeles, a place notorious for affordable housing? pushing people — non wealthy people — out of urban areas is economical eugenics and is not the solution. i actually think the McMansions should be the ones to leave. make the west village gay again! to add to the point above, stop telling me to move to a midsize, less expensive city. i've pigeonholed myself into an esoteric career that only exists within Los Angeles and New York. no, i am not exaggerating - there are 0 job opportunities outside of these two areas. i like my job and i am not willing to sacrifice it for Cincinnati, Ohio. i do not want to join your Milwaukee brewery cult. so spare me your Midwestern sermon. i am not complaining about not affording to live by myself in trendy parts such as “Bushwick or Williamsburg” as some underdeveloped trollop claimed. please be serious and stop projecting whatever performative transplant rage you have onto me. i don’t need lectures about displacement or gentrification when my family and i are victims of it ourselves. no, Millennials, i wasn’t referencing your generation in my rant. we have a lot of shared experiences, and you guys have been consistently advocating for the younger generation, which i applaud you for, considering that wasn’t something you received from Boomers & Gen X yes, i vote. no, i don’t vote republican as i have at least some modicum of intelligence. no, i am not an echo chamber who is spouting the same unoriginal rhetoric as my peers. if you’ve heard this before, it’s probably because it’s a unilateral feeling across my generation. all beliefs are my own. i wont bore you with my politics but i will say that i gave Scum Manifesto three stars on GoodReads. take with that what you will. submitted by /u/slowlikehoneyyyyy to r/offmychest [link] [comments]

AITAH for saying my friend shouldn’t have hosted if she wasn’t able to afford it?
I’ve been part of the same friend group since high school (11 girls, all in our early 20s now). Once college started, we spread out but we’re all still friends. When the occasion calls for it (holidays, milestones, etc) one of us will throw a party for the group. We’ll have a theme, decorations, entertainment, food, the works. It’s our way of feeling fancy and staying close despite all being broke college students. Most recently, we wanted to do a New Year’s party. Multiple people wanted to host, but one girl, “Maya”, was really vocal about wanting to host. She’s never been the one to throw the party before so we agreed. She said she had a specific vibe in mind, wanted it to be classy and fun, told us to dress up. We met up at her apartment (a 2.5 hour drive from me, and farther from some of the others). However, when I got there, I found out that for the entire gathering all she had ordered food-wise was one pizza. No sides, no desserts, not even drinks— literally just one pizza. One pizza for ten people is… not a lot of food. Obviously we split it and had a great time, but I was pretty upset and hungry. Towards the end of the party, Maya asked if we could each pitch in $5 for the pizza. This made matters worse since the pizza most certainly did not cost $50 in the first place, but it’s $5 and she’s a friend so whatever. Now, Valentine’s Day is coming up, and Maya said she wants to host again. Nobody in our group chat said anything, but I also offered to host and four or five people immediately agreed that I should. Maya called me and asked if she had done something wrong. She and I are pretty close so I felt comfortable telling her that her party was super fun, but ordering one pizza for 10 people and then asking us to pay her back for it may have turned people off from wanting her to host again. She got defensive and told me that she was having some financial issues at the time, and I said I understood, because I do, because we’re all broke college students, but that if that was the case she just shouldn’t have offered to host. She told me I was being elitist and stuck up and we more or less ended the call on bad terms. Then, today, a few of my friends have told me that Maya’s been telling them that I said she shouldn’t host any more parties. That is NOT what I said, not at all, but when I explained and told my friends what I had said they told me that I was being super rude to her and that I should have just deflected and made up an excuse for why I wanted to host the party. I think that’s BS, and that being a good friend means standing up to your friends when you think they’ve made a mistake. They said I probably humiliated her and made her feel bad for not being able to afford to buy us all food. I feel really bad about it now, but I still maintain that she shouldn’t have offered to host if she couldn’t afford to feed us. Other people were willing to host. So, AITAH for telling her what I did? submitted by /u/StickyLoner4404 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

AITAH? my boyfriend brought home a girl for the holidays
I am not The OOP, OOP is u/williwicey AITAH? my boyfriend brought home a girl for the holidays Originally posted to r/TwoHotTakes Thanks to u/queenlegolas & u/soayherder for suggesting this BoRU Original Post Dec 22 2025 hello! long time listener of twohottakes, and now the time (unfortunately) has come to make my own post. i, (f24) am with my longtime boyfriend and best friend since birth (m23, let’s call him will). a little backstory, our mom’s were best friends in high school and since we are only less than a year apart, we grew up very close and always hung out. will, his twin brother (let’s call him wyatt), and i were always together growing up. going on vacations, sleepovers during summer etc. will and i basically have had crushes on each other since we were in elementary school. but only officially started dating when i was a sophomore and he was a freshman in high school. we’ve only ever dated each other. then, it was college time for me since i was a grade earlier. we both thought i should take a gap year so we could start together. well…. we both ended up taking multiple gap years lol. we had decent jobs and had the luxury of being able to travel so we did. so this year, we all three started college for the first time (plus will and wyatt’s best friend, we’ll call him ian, m23). but as the years went by (before i started college) i kept switching on ideas for majors. i ended up choosing one they didn’t have at the college we all wanted to go to, so i talked with will about it, and we decided we could still make it work since the college that has the major i wanted was only a 1 hour car ride away. well, college started. i ended up absolutely hating my major, so i will be switching and transferring to the original college of choice which will is super happy about and i’ll be moving into the apartment he has with wyatt and ian. now, moving onto the actual problem. it is of course winter break and i was so excited to spend time with will since we didn’t get to see each other much during the semester even though we texted as much as we could and always face-timed at night even if it was only for 5 minutes. so imagine my surprise when i come home for break and go to his parents house, and there’s a girl sitting in the living room with them. will comes up and greets me like everything’s normal, and introduces me to the girl (we’ll call her abby, f19). wyatt tells me that they’ve all grown close to her at college and that she’s become like a bestfriend to them.. i was floored by this. will never once told me that he made any good friends at college, let alone a girl. i could tell that will knew from my face that i wasn’t exactly thrilled at this, but since we were in front of people i kept my mouth shut. i went to go help will and wyatt’s mom in the kitchen not long after that, and i asked her if she knew anything about abby, like maybe her family lived too far and she couldn’t afford to travel back, maybe she had a bad home life? you know, anything that could make a bit of sense. she told me she had asked the same question, because she was a bit weirded out as well, but they told her she had a good relationship with her family, but wanted to spend christmas with friends this year. this rubbed me the completely wrong way. i can’t imagine ditching my family to spend christmas with two guys i’ve only known for 3-4 months? especially when you aren’t dating one. (a good time to mention that wyatt is gay). i talked to will about it later that night and told him that i was uncomfortable that she was here, especially because it was supposed to be our time together after months apart, plus it’s a family holiday and she isn’t family. and he told me that he understands, but she’s just a good friend and wanted to spend christmas with them and he felt too bad to tell her no. and by the way, this isn’t a “is my boyfriend cheating or not” post. i genuinely trust will and i don’t think he would ever cheat on me. now, i have to admit i do get jealous sometimes, but i really don’t think i am that unreasonable. i don’t mind him having a friendship with a different gender (as long as boundaries aren’t crossed) but i feel like this is a huge boundary. we were supposed to use this time to catch up, but now this girl who has already been spending time with them for months is here. and i thought maybe she’ll spend most of her time with wyatt while will and i can do our own thing. nope. we went ice skating two days ago (which is a tradition of ours) and guess who wanted to come as soon as we got ready? abby. we tried to watch a move in the basement last night. guess who showed up? abby. we went to go look at christmas lights a few nights ago. who wanted to come? abby. needed to go christmas shopping. who wanted to come with? abby. had a date for the christmas market, she knew it was a date and who wanted to come? abby. (luckily, this time will told her no) (also should mention the only time wyatt was with us during any of that was for the christmas lights. that’s it, so it wasn’t like she just wanted to be included and didn’t want to be alone) i finally snapped tonight when will and i we’re getting ready to go to my grandma’s to decorate cookies like we do every year, abby asked where we were going and will answered. she really had the audacity to ask, again, “can i come with”? this is where i might(?) be the a-hole. i told her that no, she can’t come. that she’s intruded enough so far on this break and that she knew we hadn’t seen each-other in 4 months and yet she can’t stop inserting herself. i told her to go back to her family for christmas because she wasn’t apart of this family and never would be. she cried and ran to the guest room. will got super mad at me, and told me i was being ridiculous and a “jealous brat”, but i’m genuinely fed up. this girl is either wanting my boyfriend, or she has a MAJOR boundary problem. but either way, i don’t want to deal with either problem. it was super awkward at my grandmas as will is still mad at me. but now that i was thinking about it, i can’t help being mad at him too. he lied to me (or withheld information, i guess) about getting close to another girl (and now that i’ve met said girl, i’m very concerned because she seems unhealthily attached to my boyfriend since she hasn’t really made any effort to hang out with wyatt) and i think letting her come to christmas and our reunion was super disrespectful and i know for a fact if the tables were turned he would be enraged. christmas is now in two days, and i’m not even excited anymore. i know anything we’ll try to do abby will just insert herself. and this was my favorite holiday. i texted ian about her, and he told me that she seemed closer to wyatt then will when they were at college? so i have no idea what’s going on. so, i guess, AITA for blowing up at her? any advice on what to do now? thank you for any advice! RELEVANT COMMENTS Comfortable-Grape969 I don’t think you’re wrong for feeling blindsided, but I do think you need to talk to Will directly before letting this spiral. College changes people and social circles fast, and it sounds like he didn’t realize how big this would feel to you. Bringing someone home for Christmas without warning your partner is a bad call, full stop. That said, jumping to conclusions won’t help. Tell him clearly why this upset you and see how he responds — his reaction will tell you a lot. OOP i’ll definitely talk with him soon! i think i need to calm down a bit first though, writing this just made me more angry at him and the situation. my mind definitely jumps to conclusions fast which definitely doesn’t help my case. ~ whatdouthinkabtthis girl why didn’t your boyfriend tell you? You actually showed up and neither one of your lifelong friends thought to mention another person would be there, let alone some girl 4 years younger than yall. You talk to him every day and he never mentioned any new friends? Let alone this one who they let or invited to come home with them for christmas. i’d be annoyed at both because you’re spose to be friends, but i’d be side eyeing your man. all very sus. all very strange OOP this is what angered me the most! i don’t understand why neither of them told me. since we’re older than the normal age of starting college and he was going with his brother and best friend, i honestly just assumed we wouldn’t be trying to go out and make friends (which i understand can sometimes happen naturally) so i never really asked about it and i can’t understand for the life of me figure out why he couldn’t just tell me. i’m going to talk to him later about it for sure. Update Dec 23, 2025 (next day) hello everyone! thank you so much for all the comments and advice. since i’m going to be busy during christmas, i wanted to update this today. now here is the update: after two panic attacks and thinking way too much, i tried to calm myself down and after a few hours i texted him and asked if he could come over so we could talk. he arrived and instantly apologized to me for calling me a jealous brat, and said i had every right to be annoyed and upset, he just wished i was less harsh. i apologized as well, and said i was a bit too hard, and i told him i should have communicated better (thanks for all the advice on that, i realize i definitely should have said something sooner, rather than letting it all blow up), and he told me that he should communicate better as well in the future, which we promised to do. after that, i immediately asked why he even kept his friendship with her a secret in the first place. he told me that he knew i’d be upset about his friendship with a girl and he didn’t want to tell me and make me worry whilst we were at different colleges. while i’m ngl that would have stressed me out a bit, i still had a right to know. my face must have shown i wasn’t the happiest with that excuse as he instantly told me he’s sorry again and that he made a mistake in the way he handled this whole thing, but that he genuinely doesn’t have any feelings for her except friendship, and he would never cheat on me. he told me his mom sat him down after i left, and laid it out for him. about how suspicious this must look to me, about how trust was broken, and the fact he completely blind sided me and he told me that really made him think about his actions. he looked very genuine and even was starting to tear up. will then told me that abby had asked wyatt a couple weeks ago if she could come to their christmas instead of her parents this year because she wanted to hang out with them instead and thought it would be fun. will told me that wyatt texted him about the idea as soon as she asked, and that he instantly shut it down, saying it probably wasn’t a good idea since i wouldn’t like it (he showed me the text messages between wyatt and him without me even asking to see them). but wyatt told will that since it was the first time will and i had been apart before christmas break, that we would probably be spending even more time alone together than normal, and it could be nice if he had a friend to spend that time with, and will felt bad so he agreed. i asked him why he couldn’t have just told me that from the get-go, but he said “he thought i would understand that he wasn’t the one that invited her” which.. ngl pissed me off. because what do you mean?? obviously i told him that that’s something to work on with the communication and he agreed. he said he had absolutely no idea that abby would insist on intruding on our alone time together, and that he also should have told her no after the 2nd time she tried, but he was too shocked and confused by her behavior to do anything because she never acted that way towards him at college. which lined up with what ian told me earlier, that she seemed more close to wyatt. and i also asked wyatt and ian to confirm and they told me that she never acted that way towards him at college. at all. will told me that he realized that abby must like him after she kept trying to include herself in our plans the third time, and didn’t make much of an effort to hang out with wyatt, which was the whole reason she was invited. wyatt also confirmed all of this on call and told me he was also surprised by her behavior this whole time and had tried to talk to with her about it and she apparently said that she didn’t mean any harm and just wanted to hang out with will as well. which… i’m not sure i really buy. wyatt also said whenever he would ask if she wanted to go and do something with him, she would always say she wanted to stay inside and relax.. which.. girl. you had no problem trying to go out with will and i when we left the house. will told me in morning once we go back to his house, he’ll tell abby that it’s best that she spends christmas with her family, and that once they get back to college it’s best they all keep their distance. wyatt and ian also agreed to the same thing so she wouldn’t still be around hanging out with them. i’ll also be transferring to their college for the upcoming spring semester as well, which was already planned before this whole incident, so it’s not something they could be lying about since they know i’ll be living with them soon. so, now it’s done. abby didn’t take it particularly well, and told us that she would back off if she could stay and that it wasn’t fair to make her leave the day before christmas eve, but will remained firm with her, which i appreciated. i did apologize to her for being too harsh, which she just nodded. wyatt already drove abby back home a few hours ago and a huge weight is lifted off my shoulders. i realize it’s not the most thrilling of updates, but i’m glad we promised each other better communication as i see that was something we were struggling with, on both ends. thank you again for all the advice and comments and i hope everyone has a merry christmas and happy holidays, and if you don’t celebrate i hope you have a great day as well. AITAH? my boyfriend brought home a girl for the holidays [Concluded]
This is a repost. The original was posted in r/TwoHotTakes by user willowicey. I'm not the original poster. Status: Concluded Editor's Note: I added paragraph breaks Original December 23, 2025 hello! long time listener of twohottakes, and now the time (unfortunately) has come to make my own post. i, (f24) am with my longtime boyfriend and best friend since birth (m23, let’s call him will). a little backstory, our mom’s were best friends in high school and since we are only less than a year apart, we grew up very close and always hung out. will, his twin brother (let’s call him wyatt), and i were always together growing up. going on vacations, sleepovers during summer etc. will and i basically have had crushes on each other since we were in elementary school. but only officially started dating when i was a sophomore and he was a freshman in high school. we’ve only ever dated each other. then, it was college time for me since i was a grade earlier. we both thought i should take a gap year so we could start together. well…. we both ended up taking multiple gap years lol. we had decent jobs and had the luxury of being able to travel so we did. so this year, we all three started college for the first time (plus will and wyatt’s best friend, we’ll call him ian, m23). but as the years went by (before i started college) i kept switching on ideas for majors. i ended up choosing one they didn’t have at the college we all wanted to go to, so i talked with will about it, and we decided we could still make it work since the college that has the major i wanted was only a 1 hour car ride away. well, college started. i ended up absolutely hating my major, so i will be switching and transferring to the original college of choice which will is super happy about and i’ll be moving into the apartment he has with wyatt and ian. now, moving onto the actual problem. it is of course winter break and i was so excited to spend time with will since we didn’t get to see each other much during the semester even though we texted as much as we could and always face-timed at night even if it was only for 5 minutes. so imagine my surprise when i come home for break and go to his parents house, and there’s a girl sitting in the living room with them. will comes up and greets me like everything’s normal, and introduces me to the girl (we’ll call her abby, f19). wyatt tells me that they’ve all grown close to her at college and that she’s become like a bestfriend to them.. i was floored by this. will never once told me that he made any good friends at college, let alone a girl. i could tell that will knew from my face that i wasn’t exactly thrilled at this, but since we were in front of people i kept my mouth shut. i went to go help will and wyatt’s mom in the kitchen not long after that, and i asked her if she knew anything about abby, like maybe her family lived too far and she couldn’t afford to travel back, maybe she had a bad home life? you know, anything that could make a bit of sense. she told me she had asked the same question, because she was a bit weirded out as well, but they told her she had a good relationship with her family, but wanted to spend christmas with friends this year. this rubbed me the completely wrong way. i can’t imagine ditching my family to spend christmas with two guys i’ve only known for 3-4 months? especially when you aren’t dating one. Comments by OOP: i’ll definitely talk with him soon! i think i need to calm down a bit first though, writing this just made me more angry at him and the situation. my mind definitely jumps to conclusions fast which definitely doesn’t help my case. this is what angered me the most! i don’t understand why neither of them told me. since we’re older than the normal age of starting college and he was going with his brother and best friend, i honestly just assumed we wouldn’t be trying to go out and make friends (which i understand can sometimes happen naturally) so i never really asked about it and i can’t understand for the life of me figure out why he couldn’t just tell me. i’m going to talk to him later about it for sure. I don’t believe anyone who writes like you do has ever been to college. [dragonrider1965]*[Downvoted] well damn someone needs to tell my english professor then since i ended the semester with a 84% 😭[OOP] Update December 23, 2025, about 18 hours later hello everyone! thank you so much for all the comments and advice. since i’m going to be busy during christmas, i wanted to update this today. now here is the update: after two panic attacks and thinking way too much, i tried to calm myself down and after a few hours i texted him and asked if he could come over so we could talk. he arrived and instantly apologized to me for calling me a jealous brat, and said i had every right to be annoyed and upset, he just wished i was less harsh. i apologized as well, and said i was a bit too hard, and i told him i should have communicated better (thanks for all the advice on that, i realize i definitely should have said something sooner, rather than letting it all blow up), and he told me that he should communicate better as well in the future, which we promised to do. after that, i immediately asked why he even kept his friendship with her a secret in the first place. he told me that he knew i’d be upset about his friendship with a girl and he didn’t want to tell me and make me worry whilst we were at different colleges. while i’m ngl that would have stressed me out a bit, i still had a right to know. my face must have shown i wasn’t the happiest with that excuse as he instantly told me he’s sorry again and that he made a mistake in the way he handled this whole thing, but that he genuinely doesn’t have any feelings for her except friendship, and he would never cheat on me. he told me his mom sat him down after i left, and laid it out for him. about how suspicious this must look to me, about how trust was broken, and the fact he completely blind sided me and he told me that really made him think about his actions. he looked very genuine and even was starting to tear up. will then told me that abby had asked wyatt a couple weeks ago if she could come to their christmas instead of her parents this year because she wanted to hang out with them instead and thought it would be fun. will told me that wyatt texted him about the idea as soon as she asked, and that he instantly shut it down, saying it probably wasn’t a good idea since i wouldn’t like it (he showed me the text messages between wyatt and him without me even asking to see them). but wyatt told will that since it was the first time will and i had been apart before christmas break, that we would probably be spending even more time alone together than normal, and it could be nice if he had a friend to spend that time with, and will felt bad so he agreed. i asked him why he couldn’t have just told me that from the get-go, but he said “he thought i would understand that he wasn’t the one that invited her” which.. ngl pissed me off. because what do you mean?? obviously i told him that that’s something to work on with the communication and he agreed. he said he had absolutely no idea that abby would insist on intruding on our alone time together, and that he also should have told her no after the 2nd time she tried, but he was too shocked and confused by her behavior to do anything because she never acted that way towards him at college. which lined up with what ian told me earlier, that she seemed more close to wyatt. and i also asked wyatt and ian to confirm and they told me that she never acted that way towards him at college. at all. will told me that he realized that abby must like him after she kept trying to include herself in our plans the third time, and didn’t make much of an effort to hang out with wyatt, which was the whole reason she was invited. wyatt also confirmed all of this on call and told me he was also surprised by her behavior this whole time and had tried to talk to with her about it and she apparently said that she didn’t mean any harm and just wanted to hang out with will as well. which… i’m not sure i really buy. wyatt also said whenever he would ask if she wanted to go and do something with him, she would always say she wanted to stay inside and relax.. which.. girl. you had no problem trying to go out with will and i when we left the house. will told me in morning once we go back to his house, he’ll tell abby that it’s best that she spends christmas with her family, and that once they get back to college it’s best they all keep their distance. wyatt and ian also agreed to the same thing so she wouldn’t still be around hanging out with them. i’ll also be transferring to their college for the upcoming spring semester as well, which was already planned before this whole incident, so it’s not something they could be lying about since they know i’ll be living with them soon. so, now it’s done. abby didn’t take it particularly well, and told us that she would back off if she could stay and that it wasn’t fair to make her leave the day before christmas eve, but will remained firm with her, which i appreciated. i did apologize to her for being too harsh, which she just nodded. wyatt already drove abby back home a few hours ago and a huge weight is lifted off my shoulders. i realize it’s not the most thrilling of updates, but i’m glad we promised each other better communication as i see that was something we were struggling with, on both ends. thank you again for all the advice and comments and i hope everyone has a merry christmas and happy holidays, and if you don’t celebrate i hope you have a great day as well. AITAH? my boyfriend brought home a girl for the holidays
hello! long time listener of twohottakes, and now the time (unfortunately) has come to make my own post. i, (f24) am with my longtime boyfriend and best friend since birth (m23, let’s call him will). a little backstory, our mom’s were best friends in high school and since we are only less than a year apart, we grew up very close and always hung out. will, his twin brother (let’s call him wyatt), and i were always together growing up. going on vacations, sleepovers during summer etc. will and i basically have had crushes on each other since we were in elementary school. but only officially started dating when i was a sophomore and he was a freshman in high school. we’ve only ever dated each other. then, it was college time for me since i was a grade earlier. we both thought i should take a gap year so we could start together. well…. we both ended up taking multiple gap years lol. we had decent jobs and had the luxury of being able to travel so we did. so this year, we all three started college for the first time (plus will and wyatt’s best friend, we’ll call him ian, m23). but as the years went by (before i started college) i kept switching on ideas for majors. i ended up choosing one they didn’t have at the college we all wanted to go to, so i talked with will about it, and we decided we could still make it work since the college that has the major i wanted was only a 1 hour car ride away. well, college started. i ended up absolutely hating my major, so i will be switching and transferring to the original college of choice which will is super happy about and i’ll be moving into the apartment he has with wyatt and ian. now, moving onto the actual problem. it is of course winter break and i was so excited to spend time with will since we didn’t get to see each other much during the semester even though we texted as much as we could and always face-timed at night even if it was only for 5 minutes. so imagine my surprise when i come home for break and go to his parents house, and there’s a girl sitting in the living room with them. will comes up and greets me like everything’s normal, and introduces me to the girl (we’ll call her abby, f19). wyatt tells me that they’ve all grown close to her at college and that she’s become like a bestfriend to them.. i was floored by this. will never once told me that he made any good friends at college, let alone a girl. i could tell that will knew from my face that i wasn’t exactly thrilled at this, but since we were in front of people i kept my mouth shut. i went to go help will and wyatt’s mom in the kitchen not long after that, and i asked her if she knew anything about abby, like maybe her family lived too far and she couldn’t afford to travel back, maybe she had a bad home life? you know, anything that could make a bit of sense. she told me she had asked the same question, because she was a bit weirded out as well, but they told her she had a good relationship with her family, but wanted to spend christmas with friends this year. this rubbed me the completely wrong way. i can’t imagine ditching my family to spend christmas with two guys i’ve only known for 3-4 months? especially when you aren’t dating one. (a good time to mention that wyatt is gay). i talked to will about it later that night and told him that i was uncomfortable that she was here, especially because it was supposed to be our time together after months apart, plus it’s a family holiday and she isn’t family. and he told me that he understands, but she’s just a good friend and wanted to spend christmas with them and he felt too bad to tell her no. and by the way, this isn’t a “is my boyfriend cheating or not” post. i genuinely trust will and i don’t think he would ever cheat on me. now, i have to admit i do get jealous sometimes, but i really don’t think i am that unreasonable. i don’t mind him having a friendship with a different gender (as long as boundaries aren’t crossed) but i feel like this is a huge boundary. we were supposed to use this time to catch up, but now this girl who has already been spending time with them for months is here. and i thought maybe she’ll spend most of her time with wyatt while will and i can do our own thing. nope. we went ice skating two days ago (which is a tradition of ours) and guess who wanted to come as soon as we got ready? abby. we tried to watch a move in the basement last night. guess who showed up? abby. we went to go look at christmas lights a few nights ago. who wanted to come? abby. needed to go christmas shopping. who wanted to come with? abby. had a date for the christmas market, she knew it was a date and who wanted to come? abby. (luckily, this time will told her no) (also should mention the only time wyatt was with us during any of that was for the christmas lights. that’s it, so it wasn’t like she just wanted to be included and didn’t want to be alone) i finally snapped tonight when will and i we’re getting ready to go to my grandma’s to decorate cookies like we do every year, abby asked where we were going and will answered. she really had the audacity to ask, again, “can i come with”? this is where i might(?) be the a-hole. i told her that no, she can’t come. that she’s intruded enough so far on this break and that she knew we hadn’t seen each-other in 4 months and yet she can’t stop inserting herself. i told her to go back to her family for christmas because she wasn’t apart of this family and never would be. she cried and ran to the guest room. will got super mad at me, and told me i was being ridiculous and a “jealous brat”, but i’m genuinely fed up. this girl is either wanting my boyfriend, or she has a MAJOR boundary problem. but either way, i don’t want to deal with either problem. it was super awkward at my grandmas as will is still mad at me. but now that i was thinking about it, i can’t help being mad at him too. he lied to me (or withheld information, i guess) about getting close to another girl (and now that i’ve met said girl, i’m very concerned because she seems unhealthily attached to my boyfriend since she hasn’t really made any effort to hang out with wyatt) and i think letting her come to christmas and our reunion was super disrespectful and i know for a fact if the tables were turned he would be enraged. christmas is now in two days, and i’m not even excited anymore. i know anything we’ll try to do abby will just insert herself. and this was my favorite holiday. i texted ian about her, and he told me that she seemed closer to wyatt then will when they were at college? so i have no idea what’s going on. so, i guess, AITA for blowing up at her? any advice on what to do now? thank you for any advice! submitted by /u/willowicey to r/TwoHotTakes [link] [comments]

Please help me prank my husband $20+

He has had carried this framed poster of Jane Seymour aka “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman” around everywhere with him for 20+ years. It’s been hung up in every place we’ve ever lived in. It’s the bane of my existence. I would like to replace his 3” x 2” print (rough estimate) with another very discrete one, with my face photo shopped in as a prank. AITA for snapping at my boyfriend's mom for cleaning our entire apartment while we were asleep?
Me (21F) and my bf (21M) have been living together for 5 months. He wanted to live in a studio, but his mom is paying his rent and she wanted him to be in a one bedroom so she could come visit and stay for our college football game weekends. I pay half the rent. My bf was away on internship on our move in day, and I ended up moving both of us in, with help from his mom. After we moved all the boxes in, I had to leave for a few days, and I told her to not unpack anything. I like unpacking, and I didn't want her going through my things. When I came back, every. single. box. was unpacked and organized, including my clothes, my razors etc. Also, a lot of furniture and decorations that I had vetoed were set up. I saw this as a huge violation, but kinda just took a deep breath and blew it off. My bf has said that she has a poor understanding of personal space, and has always been too involved in his life, which he has learned to live with.(He is an only child... I grew up with 10 siblings. Lol) She has come to visit a few times and has cleaned our apartment almost every time she comes. I have told her several times that there is no need, and even had to put a very hard boundary on her not washing our sheets or touching my clothes, since that feels like a massive breach of my privacy. My bf doesnt understand why I'm upset but has been on my side. Last weekend she visited, we set the couch for her and we hung out after the game. The next morning, we woke up to her cleaning our place. She had been cleaning for 2 hours while we were asleep. I was pretty upset and my bf went to go talk to her. He said that she moves all of our things around and we can never find anything when shes done. She completely brushed this off by saying "oh its okay, I'll put everything back how I found it, its really gross in here" I was in the bathroom, and as she was saying that I noticed that all of our towels, bath mats, and my personal perfumes and makeup were reorganized. I got upset, and came out and told her that it really bothers me when she cleans our space, and that it makes me feel like a place that I am paying for doesn't belong to me because someone else is treating it like their own. I said I really appreciated the effort, but that it makes me very uncomfortable. She stopped cleaning, and changed the subject and I thought everything was fine. My bf went to work, and she left a few hours later. When I talked to him later he told me that she had called him and said that I deeply hurt her feelings, that she was trying to help, that i was being disrespectful and ungrateful, and that we should act as good hosts and keep the apartment cleaner for her when she visits. I recently got diagnosed with endometriosis and haven’t been able to clean as much, but we still clean daily. The biggest caveat here is that she has metastatic breast cancer and we don’t know how much longer she has left with us. I said we can clean the apt together, but she didn’t like that. FINAL UPDATE: Living in a hotel storage room for free!
Oh boy oh boy, it's been a minute! In the past two weeks or so, I've made some decent progress on the room. The changes are as follows: MINI FRIDGEEEEEE (stocked, I swear I'm not 5 years old 💀) Posters! TEXAS FLAG RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Some drawings I hung up on the wall Whiteboard (I wrote one of my favorite quotes on there, guess whose quote it is!) Wall Shelves Mini Plant Some adhesive wall hooks which I used for my hats, a jacket, and a bag My figurine collection (which I brought from my old apartment in Mexico) Alexa device (also from my old apartment) Wall outlet extender/shelf/night light Shoe Rack Tension Rod for hanging clothes in my "closet" area Various other small decor pieces Cleaned up my AC unit Oop! Can't forget the plushie my girlfriend gave when I visited! :D SORRY for taking a while to update on my situation, I got caught up with my life and things of that sort. I had been doing lots of thinking and contemplating. I've managed to come to some conclusions. I have decided to stop smoking entirely. I knew I couldn't smoke forever, so why not stop now? I have already started to feel the effects, so I want to take care of it while I still can. To top that off, I am also stopping alcohol and watching adult content. I also realized I have been doing jack crap exercise wise, which is why I started going back to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. There is a school real close by and the price was not bad, so I joined up recently and have been attending classes. It had been about 3 years since I trained (basically), but I'm so glad I am getting back into it. Basically, I just want to be a better man. Someone I can be proud of. I also want to make something of myself. But at times I get so lost in the whirlpool of this world, I just don't know which way to go. But there is this one thing that keeps calling me back... don't I had messed around with the idea of making video games for a while, ever since I was in high school. I even attended college for a short period of time for video game programming. But school just never sat right in my stomach, and I always seemed to just give up on the idea. What I was doing for a short lived amount of time was YouTube vlogs and stuff, but I've come to find I dont really like it. I would much rather write a book of my life (which I will do at some point), or talk on my own blog style podcast (currently doing this), than record every second of my life. But what if I combined the two ideas into the best of both worlds? I could start recording my journey to becoming a video game programmer/developer and upload the videos to YouTube. Then, when my games get released I already have a fanbase ready to play them. This way, things are less intrusive into my life, I would just let my reddit profile, podcast, and future book take care of all my personal life story details. Anywho, GIANORMOUS THANK YOU TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!!! I really appreciate all the love, support, and advice you guys have been giving, it goes to a special place in my heart. To have built a community of sorts is astonishing, and I still can't believe what has happened. I truly do hope my journey has served as something others can use as hope for themselves. I have been through hell and back so many times, and I just want to say, It does get better. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Use that light to guide your next step and then the next. Never stop moving, I don't care if you are moving just a little, JUST DON'T STOP. Imagine the worst thing you have ever experienced. Now tell me, did you get through it? Did you die? Did the world explode? Now, give me one reason as to why you can't keep pushing forward, given the fact that the worst thing to ever happen to you hasn't stopped you yet... This is my last post on this subreddit. I think the room has come along very nicely and I don't see much more that it really needs or requires. HOWEVER, I will still be posting to reddit to update about my life and whatnot. Thanks for tuning in! submitted by /u/johndoeisahumanbeing to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

Need help making our all-girls college apartment cozy and functional
Hey! I’m looking for ideas for our shared spaces (kitchen and living room) in my college apartment. There are 4 of us girls, and the space is a decent size, but the layout feels a little awkward. I want it to feel cozy and functional without being too cluttered or too empty. I’m trying to keep it budget-friendly, but I’m happy to add organizers or décor. I also really want to get rugs for the kitchen area, but I’m not sure what style or size would work without making it feel even more awkward. Pics in the comments. I’d love any suggestions for making it feel more comfortable and practical for all of us. submitted by /u/k8lyn0190 to r/DesignMyRoom [link] [comments]

Just moved in…progress made so far!
Title: Just Moved Into My New Loft – Looking for Cozy Vibes & Gamer/Sports-Themed Ideas! Hey Reddit! I just moved into my new loft apartment, and while I’m absolutely loving the open space and high ceilings, it feels a bit empty and needs that cozy, welcoming touch. I’m a huge gamer and sports fanatic, so I’d love to incorporate those passions into the decor. I’m reaching out for some feedback and ideas: Gaming Setup: How can I make my gaming area both functional and a statement piece? RGB lighting? Wall art? Display shelves for collectibles? Sports Vibes: Any creative ways to showcase my favorite teams without making it look like a college dorm room? Framed jerseys? Vintage memorabilia? submitted by /u/nerdx_inked to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

AITAH for putting a stop to my 12yo daughter's 'period party'?
Let me set the stage. My wife and I (43m, 42f) have two daughters, seven years apart. 19yo was at college in a different state when this happened. Girls are very different. 19yo is outgoing, even extroverted, loves meeting new people, trying new things, etc. 12yo is shy, a homebody, finds things she's comfortable with and sticks with them. (In fairness, 19yo was kinda like this until she was 16 or so, maybe it's genetic XD). Couple months ago, 12yo comes to me in my home office, obviously upset. Stammers a bit, then manages to tell me that she just got her first period. I play the supportive dad, comfort her, and get her a box of sanitary pads my wife had bought earlier in the year (guessing this was going to happen sooner or later), and go over the instructions with her. She goes into her bathroom, does what she has to do, thanks me for my help, I got her some ice cream and Midol, told her there was nothing to be embarrassed about and she could always come to me for anything. Wife gets home later that day, 12yo tells her what happened. Wife starts crying, "my little girl is growing up, etc", then asks who should be invited to the 'period party' (which I only knew of from listening to Bert Kreischer; if they were a thing when our 19yo started, she never asked for one). 12yo immediately closes off, says she doesn't want a PP, doesn't want anyone to know. Wife tries to talk to her some more, but 12yo ignores her and goes to her room. Wife tries to enlist my aid in changing her mind, but I tell her "she said she didn't want one, don't worry about it." Two days later, I get home from running errands and before I can even make it to the stairs, 12yo runs up to me and asks if she can do her homework in my office. I'm confused, but say sure, and she bolts upstairs. At this point, I started to suspect what was going on, and walked into the living room to find that my wife had not only decorated it like something which wouldn't have looked out of place on MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEEN, but there were several family friends (all women) and a few I recognize as neighborhood mothers. I beckon Wife into the hall, she asks where 12yo is, and I tell her she wanted to do homework in my office. She rolls her eyes and starts to move past me, but I step in front of her. Me: "What are you doing?" Wife: "Going to get 12yo, it's her party." Me: "She told you specifically she DIDN'T want one of these." Wife: "Oh, she didn't mean that. This is an important time for a girl, she needs to know not to be ashamed of her body." Me: "She's not, I already explained things to her, she just doesn't want to talk about it more." Wife: "I don't expect you to understand, this is just for us women." She actually tried to PUSH past me, but I stepped into the doorway and completely blocked her. Wife: "What's wrong with you?" Me: "What's wrong with YOU? You know how shy 12yo is, you knew she didn't want you doing something like this, and you did it anyway." Wife: "I told you, it's for her own good. We can't let her grow up with a negative attitude toward something so natural." Me: "And we're not, I told you, she knows what's going on, she's getting a handle on it, she just doesn't want to talk about it with anyone else for right now." Wife: "Well it wasn't your business to tell her about it anyway." Me: "You were at work. Was I supposed to ignore her for four hours until you got home?" Wife: "You could have called me, I would have come home." Me: "It still would have taken you an hour. She was upset, I knew what was going on, I talked her through it." Wife: "You don't KNOW anything about it, it's never happened to you." At this point I gave up. Point to my wife, no, I've never had a period, but I had three older sisters and a live-in girlfriend before my wife and I met, plus we've been married almost 21 years. I'm pretty well-versed. She AGAIN tries to move past me, but I don't move. Me: "No. 12yo doesn't want this, I'm not letting you make her do it." Wife: "...Fine, have it your way." She goes back to the living room and tells the other ladies the PP is off because I'm being "a jackass". I lose it, follow her in, and let the women know, calmly but in no uncertain terms, that I appreciate what they wanted to do, but 12yo made it EXPLICITLY CLEAR that she DID NOT want this party and my wife is trying to pressure her into it. Several of the moms frown at her, my wife starts to backpedal, talking about how she didn't think 12yo was being serious, but I ignore her and begin taking down the decorations. Everyone clears out shortly, and once the coast is clear, 12yo comes back downstairs. My wife gives her a half-assed (IMO) apology, again saying she didn't think 12yo was serious, but 12yo ALSO ignores her and just starts doing her homework in her usual place at the table. My wife was pissed at me for a week, claiming I undermined her authority as a parent (apparently, by not helping her force our daughter into doing something she didn't want to do) and made her look back in front of the neighborhood moms (by telling them she'd been doing this against our daughters wishes). AITA for kicking my sister out of my wedding because she did not follow the color scheme?
**Update at the end When I 25F was 9, my parents adopted my sister “Jen” who was 7 at the time. Jen was thin and fearful due to being neglected. We did everything to make her feel loved. We bought her lots of toys. Everything Jen wanted, she got. When my parents asked me to move to the smaller bedroom so Jen could have my room, I was happy to. When they asked if I would let Jen pick the decorations and cake for my upcoming birthday, I agreed. I was so happy to have a sister, and I understood why my parents gave her special treatment. Only the treatment didn’t stop. For years, every trip we went on, we had to do what Jen wanted to do. We had to eat where she wanted to eat. And she got to plan all MY birthday parties. If she didn’t get what she wanted, she threw a tantrum. I still felt loved and cared for by my parents–they drove me to practices, bought me things, cooked meals for me, spent quality time and gave me advice, but I was always second to Jen. As I got older, I did anything I could to leave the house. I got my first job when I was 12. I vacationed with friends instead of family. I played three different sports and did band. I took my driver’s test the DAY I turned 16 and bought a car the day after. I went to college on the other side of the country. Now that I make good money, I do things I missed as a child. I take fancy vacations and throw elaborate parties as I please. My wedding was no exception. My fiancée “Kip” and I wanted everything to be perfect. We thought it would be fun to have a color scheme. My favorite color is yellow, and his is blue, so my guests would wear yellow, his would wear blue, and mutual friends would wear green. I picked out a dress with green embroidered details, and he picked a boutonniere with green flowers. When Jen found out about this, she was mad. I didn’t know this, but she hates yellow and it “washes her out.” She told me under no circumstances would she wear yellow. I shrugged and said that was fine–I would just kick her out if she did not wear yellow. There was no further discussion, but on my wedding day Jen came in a purple dress. I told her to leave immediately. The color scheme was perfect and she ruined it. Jen refused to leave until I threatened to call security. The rest of the wedding went smoothly, but afterwards my parents were furious with me for kicking Jen out. I told them that I warned her she would be kicked out if she didn’t follow the color scheme, but they said they all thought it was a joke. They said it was cruel of me to kick my sister out over something so trivial. I told them this was MY wedding that I threw without their support, so I can kick out whoever I want to. Kip came rushing to defend me and even told my parents they should be ashamed of how they treated me, but over the past few days, a lot of people I’ve talked to–grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, have been mixed. Some say they wouldn’t have even invited Jen if they were me, while others think I should have let it slide. AITA? Edit: (contest mode is over and I can finally edit) I want to make a few things clear. 1-I figured people would assume this, but I did NOT ask my guests to dress head to toe in their assigned color. I completely understand that people might not have yellow formalwear laying around. I said to dress in only neutral colors and/or your assigned color, so someone could wear a black dress and yellow jewelry, a blacks suit and a yellow tie, etc, but no colors outside neutral or your assigned color. 3-I invited Jen because she is family, and I honestly thought she was more mature than this. I did not know she hated the color yellow when I chose the color scheme. Update: First, thanks for all of your comments. I felt so guilty the past few days and was worried it would carry into my honeymoon, but you have helped me realize that I am not the bad guy and it is okay that I responded the way I did. Last night my parents reached out to me and asked if all the things Kip said–about how they should be ashamed–were true. At that point I told them how my upbringing had impacted me, and how my wedding was supposed to make up for the parties I never had as a kid, the decisions I never got to make. For the first time, I was able to call all of the shots and make everything exactly the way I wanted it to be. I even showed them this post and how most of you responded to help reinforce what I said. My parents said they had absolutely no idea how deeply their treatment had affected me. This is somewhat fair because I never really talked to them about it, but at the same time, I feel like they should have wondered why I left home as soon as I could, never came back, and hardly ever texted/called them. They said they feel so sorry about it, and are now planning a vacation with them, myself, and Kip for next summer to make up for it. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but at least now it looks like they’re making an effort. As for Jen, according to my parents she really struggled to make friends in middle school and high school. I didn’t know this because I practically lived with my high school bf my sophomore/junior year of high school and then graduated early, and Jen repeated a year in elementary school due to trauma so we were 5 grades apart despite only being 2.5 years apart. My parents tried putting her in therapy, but she wouldn’t cooperate. College was a slap in the face for her when she realized the world didn’t revolve around her–she had to live in the same 7x9’ room with plaster walls and linoleum floors as everyone else. She dropped out after a year and tried getting a job, but got fired after a few months. At that point my parents realized they really f*cked up. They told Jen she had to either go to intensive therapy or they would kick her out. According to my parents, she’s now taking classes at a community college and hoping to transfer to a four year institution. She’s doing better for the most part, though she occasionally lashes out. I’m glad Jen is getting the help she needs and working towards a career, and excited about potentially going on a trip with my parents and husband (while also knowing they might bail). I’m open to having more of a relationship with them, but I don’t think we’ll ever be a super tight knit family. Some wounds are too deep. But instead of dwelling on the past, I’m looking towards my future–starting a family with Kip, and making sure I don’t make the same mistakes my parents did. submitted by /u/Alive_Baker8802 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for asking my DIL if she is the color grinch
I came here for an outside opinion. My son and DIL married when they were in college and soon had my grandbaby Shelly. Shelly is six years old. Before this Christmas, they lived in an apartment and didn’t really decorate due to space. They would celebrate at my place and Shelly loves our tree. It’s basically very bright with all the colors of the rainbow. This year I thought it would be different since they bought a home. In the summer I bought some colorful Christmas ornaments for them since I know decorations are expensive. I babysit every Tuesday and last Tuesday the tree was up. My son asked me to finish it if I wanted since both parents were busy with work and didn’t want the boxes to be out all week. So that’s what I did with Shelly, I put up every ornament that was out. Along with the ones I bought there were a lot of dark colored ornaments. Shelly loved it and she spent a long time just looking at it. Yesterday I came back and every single colorful ornament was off the tree, I asked Shelly what happens and her mom ( DIL) took them all off. She was got quite upset talking about it. The tree is just dark with basically no color now. I waiting until both of the them got home and asked why she removed the ornament, her response was she didn’t like how it looked. It was too overstimulating for Shelly (Shelly doesn’t have any disabilities). I asked if she was serious and she told me she was. At this point I asked if she was the color grinch since she destroyed something Shelly loved. She got really mad and I told her to put it back up for her daughter and she can deal with colors not matching in her home. She called me a jerk, my son is annoyed with me also since it’s their home. I just can’t understand why they would mess with something their daughter loved. Edit: I don’t care that the tree isn’t my vision, my issue is then taking away something Shelly loved because it didn’t match her mothers vision. AITA for giving my son's bedroom to our foster child?
My husband and I have been foster parents for over a decade. 2 months ago, we had 4 minor children living in our home. Our 12 year old biological son, our 8 and 5 year old adopted sons, and our 21 month old foster son. Our 22 year old foster daughter also still lives at home with us and my 19 year old son spent the summer back home after his freshman year of college. (We also have other adult children that don't live at home but not really relevant.) 7 weeks ago, we got a call for an emergency placement of 5 siblings (17f, 12f, 10m, 7f, 6m). We only had 2 spare bedrooms but had enough spare beds in storage to make it work with the girls in one room and the boys in the other. It now looks like we are going to be fostering the 5 of them for considerably longer than we thought when they were placed with us. Because of the large age gaps between the girls, having them share more long term isn't really ideal. We already moved the boys a few weeks ago. We bought a triple bunk for our 8 and 5 year old's room and moved the 6 year old in with them, and put the 10 year olds bed into our 12 year olds room. This allowed the 17 year old girl to get her own room and the 2 younger girls to share. None of this created any drama and the boys were all more than happy to share rooms with each other. Now that my 19 year old is going back to college we discussed and eventually agreed on turning his bedroom into a room for our 12 year old girl so she has her own space away from her little sister. He wasn't impressed when I brought up the idea but agreed. However, before he left back for college a few days ago, he got into an argument with my husband complaining it's unfair he's lost his room and that he has nowhere to go when he comes back home now. My other adult son also contacted me about the situation to essentially tell me it was a bad idea and that his brother is really upset and just because he's been away for college a year doesn't mean he is ready to lose his spot in the house. Last year we didn't need the extra space, so his room stayed empty when he was at college. This year it makes no sense to leave a bedroom empty and to make 2 girls 5 years apart in age share a room. He is still welcome home whenever and if things change (eg he drops out) we can rearrange things again. Losing his room is temporary as we don't normally have so many foster kids. When our other kids/grandkids visit they happily use an air mattress in the den or bunk with a sibling and he can do the same on his school breaks. He will most likely have his room back by next summer and if not, we will figure out solutions then. I have explained all this to him but he’s not hearing me. AITA? I’ve bought new décor etc for the room and plan on decorating and moving our foster daughter in tomorrow. submitted by /u/Electrical_Lab_8570 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA to tell my daughter not to be so needy?
I (55m) have been married to my wife (51f) for 29 years. We recently moved our 19 yo daughter into her college apartment. My wife had already helped move in the day before, and we had to help finish up the process. Upon arrival, we moved the boxes into her apartment. After we took all of her things in, I figured we were done. My wife informed me that she was going to help our daughter unpack and get settled in. I asked how long it would take, and she told me about an hour. I waited in the living room as my wife and daughter unpacked. After an hour, I went in to see how much longer they would be, and my wife was busy helping our daughter decorate. I politely said that our daughter didn't need help with decorating, and that she had plenty of time to decorate the next day before classes started. My wife told me that she was going to help, and that since we didn't have any other plans, time shouldn't matter. My wife does a lot for our kids, and I think that because they are young adults, they can do things for themselves. This is one of those cases. When it was time to leave, we drove our daughter to the music building, because she had an audition for vocal ensemble. My wife got teary eyed and gave her a hug goodbye. I got out of the car and told my daughter that I didn't mean to offend her, but what if something happened to either of her parents? What would she do? She needed to stop being so needy. My daughter got mad and said I ruined everything. My wife yelled at me and said that she wished I hadn't even come. I walked away. Finally, I got in the car, and we drove home in silence. 22M, First Apartment on my own after college, any suggestions?
In order: Living Area, Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom. Just graduated college & haven't accumulated a ton of furniture or decor yet, so looking for suggestions. I know of obvious items such as a dresser for my bedroom, but some more niche stuff that would fit well in certain spaces is very welcome! submitted by /u/SpotlightR to r/malelivingspace [link] [comments]

AITA for moving out, taking all my stuff, and not telling my roommates
I (19f) live with 3 other girls (19-20) in an apartment on campus. Since it’s an apartment on campus it’s a 2 bedroom with 4 people so everyone shares a room. I share a room with B, C and D share a room. Between me and D we furnished the whole apartment. I want to acknowledge that I am the bitchy roommate, I call everyone out on money, food, and cleaning. I’m a full time college student and I work 40 hours a week on top of that, but I’m also the one that does the most chores. Since I am the only one with a job, my roommates expect me to buy everything for the place (toilet paper, garbage bags, ect) and they get mad that I ask them to pay me their share of. I really enjoy cooking and it’s a huge stress relief for me. For the first month of the semester we did group groceries and group meals, it was cheaper and we would be getting better meals. I figured out We could get 2 weeks worth of meals for around $30 - $40 each every 2 weeks. I make the grocery list and cook the meals. After about a month B and C said they don’t want to do group groceries anymore because it’s too expensive. I now cook meals for me and D, we shop together and split the cost 50/50. I’m cooking food for me and D still, B and C expect me to make them food. I told them they didn’t pay for food so Im not making them any. So now they go out to eat and get take out every night, then complain that they don’t have any money. B has a boyfriend, he comes over and spends the night too. I share a room with B, i’ve asked to let me know before he comes over. She did for a month, now she tells no one. He comes over and takes naps in her bed when she’s not in the room and I’m trying to do homework. I’ve asked not have him spend the night if I am intoxicated due to trauma. I woke up after drinking and he was in the room asleep without her. So I did not fall back asleep and was not happy. He comes over all the time now and she doesn’t let us know, I’ll jump in the shower in the morning when I walk back to my room in just a towel he’ll be sitting on her bed while I try to get dressed. I am in therapy, and because of the pandemic it’s virtual. So I do it from my own room. I can’t help it if there’s people home, but I’ve recently figured out that they’ve been listening to my therapy sessions. I’ll talk about things in that session that I don’t talk about with anyone else, somehow C and B will bring it up later that night if it’s something about the apartment and them. When I move out they will have absolutely nothing in the apartment, no pots or pans, couch, a coffee table, a TV, a TV stand, all decorations, ect. I already canceled my housing contract for next semester, it isn’t going to be worth $2,000 for me. So I left for 2 weeks, packed up most of my stuff and left with it, I only told D that I was leaving for 2 weeks. So B and C have no idea where I am or most of my stuff and honestly I’m fine with it. Am I the asshole? Edit: I have told D that I am not coming back for the 2nd semester. Everything that she paid for / brought is hers, I’m leaving her stuff alone and that includes some of the stuff that we split the cost on. B and C have since decided to give me the silent treatment and have not talked to me for a week. I have my big furniture pieces and everything in the kitchen left there for me to grab over thanksgiving break when no one is there. Otherwise, I have nothing else still there. I have talked to D about moving out and getting a place with me and she isn’t interested with moving into a house this year since she is from out of state. The apartment is through college housing, there is no rent to worry about for them to pay. A new random person will be placed into the apartment. The cost of living for them will not change. submitted by /u/throw-away1918 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

TIFU by telling my new wife I didn't care if she cheated on me
I told my wife I didn’t mind if she cheated on me, she was understandably shocked and confused. She asked me multiple times about this to try and understand what I meant. I took it as her being interested in opening up our relationship. I had no interest in other women, but I wanted her to be happy and have fun. So I sent her a list of boundaries (eg. no babies, STD, either of us could close and go back to monogamy at any time, ect.) I further fucked up by saying she didn’t have to tell me what she did. She told me a guy at work had given her his number and she asked if it was ok to talk to him and I said yes. Over the past few months she got closer and closer to him. I was struggling at work and wasn’t able to provide her the attention she needed. She came to me multiple times asking if I was ok with this. I know now she was trying to see if I cared about her. Eventually they did it. And she came to me and said she felt so guilty. I was upset, but unwilling to admit that to her and I told her not to worry, and it wasn’t my fault if she felt guilty for it. We had been slowly growing apart and I was pushing her away and self sabotaging our relationship. I realized I was letting the most wonderful person in my life slip away. So I started to try and save what we had. I cooked her favorite meals, kept the house clean, did errands for her, and did her chores (She works a lot more than I do). I know expectations for men in relationships are low, and I thought I was a good man because I never forgot her Birthday, our anniversary, or holiday. I would always make those days special. I would try to be home and ready with food whenever she got back from work. But I didn’t sit her down and talk about my feelings. She told me she wanted to meet with a college friend of hers out of state. I knew her friend was a nice person and it would be good for her to have a girls weekend away from all this mess. She told her mom this too after she asked to visit. So I assumed she really needed that. One week before her trip, She went to lunch with him and I was so jealous, and hurt. I told her I didn’t care if she came home that night. That moment proved to be the final nail in the coffin. The next day I finally talked to her about my feelings. I begged her to close the relationship. She told me that for a long time she felt no emotional connection to me, and that her attraction to me had gone away. That when I told her to not come home, something had broken inside of her. She said she was willing to try. I finally listened to her about our issues and took steps to be more communicative, talk to her, cuddle more, and let her know about my feelings. She then told me her “friend” had asked her to leave me, and he would wait a year until the divorce or separation happened. After I said at least she would have a nice weekend away with her college friend. She then said she had lied and revealed that the trip was with him and not with her friend. I begged her not to go, offered to pay any cancellation penalties, but she said she made a promise and was going to keep it. She went and came back. But she isn’t the same. I asked her to stop seeing him and talking to him. She said she would try. But some days she comes home a little late, and isn’t hungry enough to eat the dinner I made for her, and I know she was with him. On our anniversary I went all out, I got her flowers that matched our wedding colors, I made a photo album of our wedding and honeymoon, I wrote her a list of vows on how I would continue to be a better husband. I used some of the decorations from our wedding to decorate a room just like our wedding reception for her and played our first dance song and danced with her. I cried my eyes out, but she doesn’t have any more tears left for me. I know every nice and romantic thing I do just hurts her more, and adds to the guilt she feels. We have our first counseling session this week. I’m not sure if this is going to help us, or is just going to help me cope with divorce. I feel like such a failure. TLDR: I told my wife I didn’t care if she cheated, and she fell in love with another man. We are going to try counseling and see if we can fix the mess I created. submitted by /u/RoyalRicard to r/tifu [link] [comments]
