Cricket cell phone contract
Hi everyone, Two months ago, I purchased the $50 iphone 16e, locked to 2 months supreme unlimited plan, and 6 months total service on cricket. When I want to downgrade to a cheaper plan for next month, do i need to wait until the original 2 months of supreme unlimited has expired, or can I set up autopay for the remaining 4 months on a different plan in advance so that I don't lose service. The best no contract cell phone plans
As a digital nomad, I've had to fight to find the best no contract cell phone plans year after year after year. Wanted to share here what I’ve found. First off, carriers owned by T-Mobile, Verizon, or AT&T will have better data priority, so if data is the name of your game, look toward names like AT&T Prepaid or T-Mobile Prepaid. Aside from that, other factors to weigh include prices, data throttling, key features, and perks. Straight Talk Straight Talk is the no-fuss option. It's great for people who aren't looking for bells and whistles, just nationwide coverage, no contract, and in-person support options available at Walmart. The Walmart exclusive is a real differentiator here, not just because it runs on major networks, and you can set up your phone with in-person help, but because you can buy refill cards when you buy more toilet paper and milk, avoiding the hassle of creating an online account and loading money via card. As a bonus, you get the Walmart+ subscription (depending on your plan), which is a huge game changer for anyone living in close proximity to a store. Mint Mobile This is the general, cheapest option, but it will have low data. It has no fuss and no frills, but it also has no obvious perks. The only real benefit is that you get stable, cheap prices, arguably some of the cheapest across all the best no contract cell phone plans. The catch is you have to pay ahead of time, in three, six, or 12-month increments, and your best discounts only come if you pay 12 months in advance. That deal doesn't apply after your first 12 months. Google Fi Google Fi is not your cheapest option. In fact, it's probably one of the most expensive, but it has seamless international roaming. So, if you have to travel for work, this makes it easy to still connect without a lot of roaming fees or having to add prepaid international coverage before you go. Consumer Cellular This is an easy option similar to Straight Talk but for people who are in their 50s or older and really have customer service as their top priority. Consumer Cellular wins at customer service year after year with consistent speeds and discounts for things like AARP memberships. You won't get a lot of bells and whistles here, and you certainly won't get the fastest speed out there, but if that's not your priority, it's a great option. AT&T Prepaid and T-Mobile Prepaid If you are focused on speed and you don't want your data to be throttled during times of congestion, picking no contract brands that are still owned by the major network carriers is your best bet. This includes AT&T and T-Mobile Prepaid. T-Mobile stands out for offering its 5-year price lock guarantee, which means you can lock in your current price for the next 5 years and budget accordingly. You don't have to pay 5 years in advance or anything like you would with Mint Mobile. Cricket and Metro For families looking for multi-line discounts, Cricket and Metro are the best options. They generally offer four lines for around $100 total. Cricket is owned by AT&T, so you typically get better rural coverage, whereas Metro is owned by T-Mobile and operates on their networks, so you get 5G speeds if you live in a big city. The best Cricket cell phone plan alternatives (from someone who has tried way too many)
I move around a lot (hi! digital nomad here), and I really started thinking about switching up plans during one stint in the Midwest. I realized that Cricket wasn't going to work for me anymore. The AT&T coverage was fine on the East Coast, but it sucked once I headed west. That is why I looked for the best Cricket cell phone plan alternatives that were still prepaid, still cheap, and still gave me access to mobile hotspot data. Mint Mobile: Obviously in terms of price, I looked at Mint Mobile. They use T-Mobile which can be great if you're in a city, but when I'm in a suburban sprawl it doesn't work as well for me. I like that they have really cheap prices, but cheap prices also come with caveats. You have to pay up front for several months with the cheapest of prices only achieved if you can pay for a year at a time, and along with those cheap prices comes lower data. Total Wireless: If you have a family, Total Wireless is going to be your best option. Their pricing model scales based on the number of lines you add, so adding four lines brings your price down to $25 per month. Where StraightTalk is best for single plans, Total Wireless is best for family plans. And speaking of family, they give you truly unlimited data, you don't get any monthly high-speed caps, and nothing gets deprioritized during times of congestion, so you get the same priority high speed data no matter what time of day. They also have price guarantees where you sign up and start your service and commit to a 5-year price guarantee, meaning your plan doesn't go up in cost including taxes and fees. Whatever you agree to when you sign up is what you get for the next 5 years. That’s the best way for a family to budget. Plus, you get Disney+, which is also good for families. Visible: If you need actual data and Hotspot functionality, there's no better option than Visible, hands down. Visible gives you 5G UW options with unlimited data that doesn't have a hard cap. You're going to get a much better price if you need data, especially Hotspot data, because even though your speeds might cap out during times of congestion, your data never runs out. Also, Visible is the only prepaid carrier that supports Apple watch options as part of your service. Just know that part of this trade-off is customer service that's entirely done online with no physical stores you can visit. Consumer Cellular: This might seem like a weird one to include because it's not mentioned as often as the other Cricket alternatives, but that's just probably because you're so young you don't need it (like reminders about scheduling colonoscopies or getting your eyesight checked before renewing your driver's license). Consumer Cellular uses AT&T just like Cricket, but they are geared toward people over the age of 50, having won several awards rather consistently for having US based customer service. My grandfather has hearing problems and is not the most technologically literate person in the world, so Consumer Cellular has been wonderful for him. When he swapped to Consumer Cellular, he was able to go into a physical store and participate in a learning session that taught him how to use his new phone. Every time he called customer service, they explained things patiently to him so that he understood what was being asked of him and where he could find that information. US Mobile: US Mobile and Straight Talk let you choose between T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T, but US Mobile does it better. Basically, if you travel a lot for work, you can pay extra to get two eSIMs (in a compatible phone). Then, you can pick two of those three networks and your phone will automatically detect which one has better coverage based on where you are and use that particular tower. If you don't want to pay extra or you don't have a compatible phone, you can still manually switch back and forth based on where you are. Straight Talk: I really like Straight Talk, but I think it's best if you need a plan as an individual. You won't find any multi-line discounts here like you get elsewhere. Still, basic plans can generate a few discounts if you do Auto pay, and it comes with features like free Cloud storage, Unlimited data, and Walmart + memberships. Still, prepare for some deprioritization or slower speeds when things get congested. If you're a digital nomad or just someone who travels a lot, I'm curious to hear what you use! Any other top prepaid options that I missed? submitted by /u/Excaliblarg to r/FlexibleWorkTech [link] [comments]

Need helping getting a cell phone number to port over to cricket
So my daughter recently broke her phone. I can add a line to my plan and get her the iph9ne 16e for only $50 IF I bring my own number. Just simply upgrading her phone, it would cost $500. And getting a cricket number would cost $200. Does anyone know how I can get a cheap/free number to use to port over to cricket? Not sure why its such a huge difference in price, even when adding a line; but kinda low on funds. Has anyone tried to get a cheaper $20 plan and port it over? I tried using a free text now VOIP number, and it didnt work. Text now does have an option to buy a number for a few dollars, but it doesnt work on cricket. Anyone have any experience doing this? Any help would be appreciated submitted by /u/Think-Abalone-1137 to r/NoContract [link] [comments]

What’s a real life money hack you’ve found that no one listens to?
I’ll start: I use Mint Mobile. There are others like visible, cricket and boost, etc. I pay about $250 for an entire year of cell phone service, while everyone I know is dropping $80-90/month on T-Mobile, AT&T or Verizon. Why? My service is just as good as it was with them. submitted by /u/Plenty_Union9292 to r/Money [link] [comments]

Best way to get rid of cell phones?
I have recently come into possession of a lot of phones. A good amount of them are cricket/verizon prepaid phones and a whole bunch of Motorolas. And when I say a lot I mean 8000+ phones. The only experience I have flipping is reselling shoes in high school 8 years ago. Wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to to tackle this and what the best approach should be on getting rid of these phones? Which cell phone plan you all using in 2025 for dashing?
I was wondering which cell phone plan you use for dashing? Would 5gb of data say with Mint Mobile be enough per month? The data would be used for GPS directions, doordash app, etc. I'm looking at other MVNO's like US mobile, Cricket, etc either unlimited or a fixed amount like 5 -15 gig of data and hopefully no more than $30 a month. I'm just concerned that I may run out of data. submitted by /u/Basic85 to r/doordash_drivers [link] [comments]

Former Federal Employee Fights back
I am a former federal employee at the VA and 100% disabled veteran, that was illegally and unjustly fired by Tracey Therit for “performance” during my probationary period, even though I had excellent performance reviews and was due to be promoted in a month. Since receiving that email, I have done 1 TV interview (with another pending), 4 magazine/media interviews, and have since been invited to attend the State of the Union this Tuesday in D.C. by a Representative from the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. I have chosen to speak out, make my voice heard, and not go quietly. I chose the nuclear option. I am telling you now, if you are an illegally terminated federal employee, do not be silent. Contact every magazine, news outlet, social media source and more that you can. Only you can make your voice heard. It works, I am proof. I may never get my job back. But that’s okay, because I am speaking up and speaking out about not only all the federal workers that have been illegally and unjustly fired, but also how this is going to affect the American people as a whole. This is not a Republican issue. This is not a Democrat issue. This is an AMERICAN issue. Speak up. Speak out. Choose to make a difference. If you cannot, then I will do it for you. I am my brother’s (and sister’s) keeper, and shall continue the fight until all is made right, regardless of the consequences to myself. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” -Edmund Burke UPDATE Landed in D.C. and less than an hour of being boots on ground, my Representative’s (Brian Mast) Chief of Staff called my cell phone! She was desperately trying to get me to take a meeting with him on Tuesday before the President’s Address to Congress! Seems like a severe case of CYA after I had already reached out and got CRICKETS 🦗 from his office. 🤔 Already have met Rep. Mark Takano, done video and photos with him and his staff, and have a full day of hearings and interviews tomorrow before the fun begins at around 9:00 PM EST! Cell Phone Service in Mexico: Quick Reference Guide (JULY 31st, 2024)
Updated for AUGUST, 2024 —- Who Is This Guide For? Written primarily for the International Visitor to Mexico on a short visit/vacation. With a slight bias towards U.S visitors. But anyone, from any country, can find useful information in this guide. Why should you listen to what I have to say? "I live in Mexico City and Houston TX. I travel between the two frequently. I'm a regular on r/nocontract on reddit, if you check my post and comment history, you will see I give answers primarily based on first hand experience. While most people comment short responses, mine are usually long and detailed. I talk about Mexican Cell Phone topics often" What Is This Guide Going to Cover? This Guide will briefly cover the 4 Major Cell Networks in Mexico and how to purchase service on their Networks. CHECK THE COVERAGE MAPS (PROVIDED BELOW) OF WHERE YOU WILL BE VISITING WHILE IN MEXICO TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION! YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO IGNORE MOST OF THIS POST BY FIGURING OUT WHICH NETWORK WORKS AND DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU. Spoiler - If you are NOT visiting a big city, then you most likely want to use the Telcel Network, so that may be the end of your choices. Heck, even if you are visiting a big city you may still want to go with Telcel. No one wants to be visiting a country and waste time and effort with SIM cards. Having said that, if you find out that the other networks have decent coverage where you are going then the other networks could offer more value for the money. Recommendations for service are at the bottom of the guide. There are NO referral links or codes in this guide. All links are visible and clean. I'd also like to thank u/Ethrem I asked if r/nocontract could add a Mexico Flair and I was immediately obliged. This is the 1st post on r/nocontract with the MEXICO flare! Networks in Mexico: There are 4 main networks that operate in Mexico. There is an innumerable amount of providers/carriers that essentially sell and re-sell service on those networks. So you could have dozens of companies of various names that offer service in Mexico in some capacity, but they will all be using one of those 4 networks at the base level. Here are those four networks - Telcel - Largest Coverage Area. Best overall. Most expensive. Coverage Map: https://www.telcel.com/personas/quien-es-telcel/sobre-nosotros/mapas-cobertura AT&T MX - Decent Coverage in Major Cities and spotty coverage elsewhere. Middle of the pack value. Coverage Map: https://www.att.com.mx/cobertura.html Movistar MX- Same as AT&T more or less. Coverage Map: https://cobertura.movistar.com.mx:8080/cfusion/COBERTURA/Mapas/Mapa_4G.html Select any "estado" and you'll be able to view the whole map. Altan - Government Run. Decent coverage in major cities and spotty everywhere else. Best Value if the coverage works for you. Coverage Map: https://www.altanredes.com/mapas/mapa.html Your phone needs LTE band 28. WARNING!!! If your phone does not support LTE band 28 then you will not be able to use any ALTAN provider. Check if your phone is supported here - https://axiosmobile.mx/compatibilidad Type in your IMEI and it will tell you if your phone is compatible. —- A Quick Breakdown on "Domestic SIM/eSIM's" & "Roaming SIM/eSIM's" Without getting into the super technical details. I'm going to break up service providers by whether they offer "Domestic SIM/eSIM" service or "Roaming SIM/eSIM" service. Any company will be offering either one of these 2 services. The difference between these 2 services could likely be the factor that makes you decide if you want to use a certain company or not. I'll be providing simplified explanations. "Domestic SIM/eSIM" - Is what is sold locally in Mexico (what the locals use) Provides a usable phone number with talk, text, and data capabilities Also can be data only if you choose Usually marketed in Spanish to locals and not so much foreigners Usually bought and sold in MXN Pesos Physical SIM's are readily available at many IN-PERSON stores in Mexico Phone must be unlocked (except for AT&T USA locked phones using AT&T MX) Internet traffic does NOT route outside Mexico, resulting in the best possible performance "Roaming SIM/eSIM" - There are 2 subcategories of Roaming SIM/eSIM's - "Carrier Roaming" Service "Roaming eSIM" Service "Carrier Roaming" - Is usually what you are avoiding paying for, because your home carrier charges too much Routes internet traffic back to the origin country so when you are online, websites and apps think you are still in the original country (based on IP address alone) Might be your only option if your phone is locked to said carrier (still being paid off) Is the most seamless and easiest solution Has the possibility of accumulating an absurd amount of charges and fees If you have an unlocked phone, you can shop around at home for a local carrier that has favorable roaming fees for Mexico BEFORE you leave for Mexico. So no need to shop around when you get to Mexico. If you use this service too much and/or for too long then your home carrier may cancel your service "Roaming eSIM" - A relatively new breed of companies, specifically, for new phones that have eSIM capabilities 2nd easiest/seamless solution Pretty attractive pricing Can provide service to multiple countries with one plan. So if you are going to multiple countries during a trip these can prove advantageous Requires an unlocked phone Most of these companies usually route your internet traffic through countries in Europe & Asia (eg. France, Israel, Hong Kong, Poland) so websites and apps think you are in those countries (based on IP address alone) It could look suspicious to, for example your banking app if you use these companies and it looks like you are trying to log-in from Poland It is rare that they route internet traffic through the America's, but they do exist Performance hit when your internet traffic is being routed to Asia and back making things load more slowly especially affecting calling apps like Whatsapp and the like A List of Local Domestic Carriers - AT&T MX Network - AT&T Mexico - https://www.att.com.mx/att-mas.html Unefon - https://www.unefon.com.mx Movistar MX Network - Movistar MX - https://www.movistar.com.mx/prepago Virgin Mobile MX - https://virginmobile.mx Telcel Network - Telcel - https://www.telcel.com Altan Network - bait (by Walmart MX) - https://mibait.com Newww - https://newww.mx Axios Mobile - https://axiosmobile.mx Mexfon - https://mexfon.mobi Too many to list. Here is a larger list - https://www.altanredes.com/sumatealared/ A List of Roaming SIM/eSIM's Carriers - "Roaming eSIM" Providers - Airalo - https://www.airalo.com/mexico-esim Gigsky - https://www.gigsky.com/country/esim-in-mexico Nomad - https://www.getnomad.app/mexico-eSIM Holafly - https://esim.holafly.com/esim-mexico/ BetterRoaming (Previously Truphone) - https://www.betterroaming.com/plans/esim-mexico/ These that I have listed above have been around for years and for the most part reliable and trusted. Not perfect by any means, but they have managed to stick around and I myself have used 3 of the above companies. They are generally a bit more expensive than other newer UN-established roaming eSIM providers. This is obviously not a complete list. There are dozens more of these kind of providers (some created less than a year ago). For an even more up-to-date and exhaustive (though still not complete) list and comparison of these kind of providers you can visit - https://esimdb.com/mexico "Carrier Roaming" Providers - I'll be giving examples of good PREPAID providers from the U.S that offer excellent roaming terms with Mexico. I could not possibly list examples from other countries other than the U.S. That is something you would have to do on your own. AT&T / Cricket Wireless - https://www.att.com/prepaid/plans/ https://www.cricketwireless.com/cell-phone-plans Number 1 Choice IF AT&T Mexico Coverage is sufficient for you. The roaming terms with Mexico are some of the best in the world, I imagine. As AT&T owns both networks on both side of the borders then this allows them to offer generous terms to themselves essentially. They effectively have little to no real restrictions on usage of your plan regardless of what side of the border you are on. Depends on which plan you are on as some of their plans offer NO Mexico roaming. Unlimited Plans from AT&T/Cricket are arguably the BEST possible Unlimited Data Plan a person can have in Mexico (beating out even domestic options). Visible - https://www.visible.com/plans The current Visible+ Plan offers excellent roaming in Mexico. Telcel coverage and Visible often provides discounts that can bring this plan down to $25 or less for the first month. Simple Mobile - https://www.simplemobile.com/serviceplan Simple Mobile has provided excellent roaming terms to many countries in Latin America for many years, Mexico included. This is a good choice if you will be visiting more than 1 Latin American country and you want a U.S phone number and/or IP address. Google Fi - https://fi.google.com/about/plans/ Has been a staple for years as an excellent "travel SIM". Even though it isn't what it was in the past, it still offers good value for Mexico Roaming. The point here was to show that there might be good Carrier Roaming options from your own country. It might be worth shopping locally for a cell phone plan that offers good Carrier Roaming vs. buying some Mexican SIM or whatnot. Where to buy Physical SIM cards and/or eSIM’s? Within Mexico / In-Person: Obviously if you’re in Mexico, then there are numerous places to buy a physical SIM card. Convenience stores like OXXO, 7-11, and Circle K. Other stores like these may also sell SIM cards, maybe. You'd have to ask. Also stores may be out of stock in SIM cards just like they can be out of stock on any item in the store. If they do have SIM cards in stock then this is one of the fastest ways of getting a SIM card. Mega Supermarkets like Walmart, Soriana, or even some Chedraui mega locations. I'm talking about their Mega locations and not the smaller "Express" locations, as these do not have a cell phone activation section. These stores sell basically everything from car tires, televisions, cloths, to birthday cakes. Underground Metro Subway Stations. Obviously in big cities (eg. Mexico City & Monterrey). If it's a busy station between 10-5pm then there is likely someone in there or nearby outside selling SIM cards. These are probably 20% of metro stations. Street Stalls/Kiosks on Busy Streets. Walk for 10 minutes on a busy street in a big city and you’ll likely find a few kiosks/stalls selling SIM cards. At the Airport when you land. Getting a SIM card at the airport, once you land, may be possible, but not always. I wouldn't rely on it. They might not have any in stock or be closed when you land. Though you can always check. Shops in Airports that might have SIM cards... 7-11 Circle K Oxxo Telcel Store Movistar Store Random Stall Question: How much should I expect to pay for a physical SIM card in Mexico? For 30 days of service On the low side: $80 MXN or roughly $5 USD On the high side: $350 MXN or roughly $20 USD Anything more than $350 MXN and I would seriously doubt what I am buying. $350 MXN for 30 days of PREPAID cell service, can get you a "unlimited everything plan" in Mexico right now. Mexico's "Unlimited Data Plans" are not as good as other countries as they usually come with a daily limit of high-speed data and then being throttled down to 3g/2g speeds until the next day. Using 200+ GB on your cell phone plan here would be quite difficult. Just FYI. Question: What can I expect, when I go to buy a SIM Card? It really depends on where you choose to buy the SIM. If you buy at a Telcel/AT&T/Movistar carrier store - I've been to my fair share of these stores in Mexico that I can say it can definitely range from infuriating to pretty seamless. It is full service and NO FEE to have them install the SIM in your phone and check that it works. It really depends on the location. This should be the most seamless solution, but can be really busy (long wait as you wait for a rep) and/or incompetent reps. If you buy at a Walmart/Soriana or a Supermarket type location (not the express/smaller versions of these stores) - They usually have a certain section for phones and it is full service. They will do everything for you and very low chance of being ripped off. There is NO FEE to have them install the SIM in your phone and check that it works. If you buy at a Oxxo/7-11/Circle-K convenience store type location - You will walk out with a working SIM Card but almost most likely not installed in your phone for you. If you don't have a "SIM EJECTOR" tool, then it could be pretty annoying having a SIM card and no way of installing it. I find that a paperclip/earring/mechanical pencil is able to do the job for me if I find myself without that tool. If you buy at a random street vendor - It can be anything from just selling you the SIM card and you do the installation yourself to full service. You might get ripped off like this. Probably not, but it is a markedly higher chance then any other method. Expect this to be a cash only transaction. So it really depends on the kind of person you are. If you want someone to install the SIM for you and make sure it works, then a carrier store or a big supermarket location is probably the place for you. If you don't mind doing it yourself then the quick convenience of going to an Oxxo or 7-11 is vastly easier. Check out these videos from some Gringos about buying SIM Cards in Mexico. They are all pretty short in length. I watched all of them and can say that for the most part they get things more or less correct. They're good enough. https://youtu.be/tacKdjnl7_s?si=MhRcp4vWVYlp_v0i https://youtu.be/mosr4XgwFmQ?si=597SmNZGBdrrxEj7 https://youtu.be/LBQZQo5yJlA?si=tdYPybaK1K2s3R2H Outside of Mexico / Online: If you want to pre-purchase a SIM or eSIM before arriving in Mexico to have it ready for when you land in the airport, or just want to purchase online, then this is the section for you. For the Altan Network: Apparently, you can activate service from the U.S, as well as obviously Mexico. Anywhere else outside of these 2 countries, you may be able to purchase the eSIM and install it on your phone, but it likely will not activate until you are inside one of these 2 countries. So, just know that if you are in, for example, Australia, and you purchase an eSIM and get it installed on your phone while still in Australia, then know it likely won't activate till you land in Mexico or the U.S. Altan Network Carriers only offer "domestic SIM/eSIM" service currently. I have yet to find any Non-Mexican provider that provides roaming on the Altan Network. What I recommend here has been tested by users on reddit and have confirmed within the last 6 months to work. eSIM: Mexfon - https://planesmexfon.mx/collections/esim-mexfon (Accepts Card, Paypal, Apple & Google Pay) TelefoniaMX.com (offering Newww) - https://telefoniamx.com/products/esim-newww (Accepts Card, Apple & Google Pay) bait (by Walmart MX) - https://mibait.com/e-sim (Accepts Card) I see that Walmart's bait now offers esim activation on their website. bait would be a highly recommended Carrier that providers coverage on the Altan Network. If someone could test activation from outside Mexico and report back, that would be great! Physical SIM: eBay (Newww) - https://www.ebay.com/itm/325599900619 I was able to find a physical newww SIM card on eBay shipping out of the U.S. I have no relation to the seller. Nor have I ever purchased from them. —- For the AT&T MX Network - eSIM: TelefoniaMX.com (offering AT&T MX Prepaid) - https://telefoniamx.com (Accepts Card, Apple & Google Pay) Physical SIM: eBay - https://www.ebay.com/ You can buy an already activated, “ready-to-use”, AT&T Mexico Prepaid, physical SIM card, on eBay, for ~$15, just search “AT&T Mexico SIM” For the Movistar MX Network - eSIM: TelefoniaMX.com (offering Movistar Prepaid) - https://telefoniamx.com (Accepts Card, Apple & Google Pay) Physical SIM: I couldn't find a Movistar or Virgin Mobile SIM card for sale online for shipping outside Mexico. For the Telcel Network - Telcel reserves eSIM's for their postpaid customers. So non-resident visitors to Mexico are likely not able to open a postpaid account. Even if they could, it likely wouldn't be worth the headache for a short visit. You essentially have to rely on using a physical SIM card or utilizing the roaming from another carrier. With that being said... Physical SIM: eBay - https://www.ebay.com/ You can buy an already activated, “ready-to-use”, Telcel Prepaid, physical SIM card on eBay, for ~$15, just search ”Telcel SIM card” eSIM: Refer back to the list of "Roaming eSIM" and "Carrier Roaming" Providers section in this guide. Those Carriers may or may not offer Telcel coverage. Check their website to check which carrier they offer. If they do not list it, the you may have to contact them to find out. — Local Opinions - Top domestic carrier picks, by network. Judged by best rates - Telcel (Telcel Network) - Telcel is a monopoly and you just kind of have to accept that. Even if it's the most expensive option. It has the best coverage (PERIOD). bait (Altan Network) - Walmart's bait offers a few more benefits than the dozens of other Altan carriers. Not much, but enough to put them as the top Altan carrier. Unefon (AT&T MX Network) - Only because they have better rates vs AT&T MX. Has no eSIM though, maybe a deal-breaker. Virgin Mobile MX (Movistar MX Network) - Only because they have better rates vs Movistar. Has no eSIM though, maybe a deal-breaker. Top eSIM Roaming carrier picks - Any of the eSIM Roaming carriers that I listed in this guide previously. I would recommend. Check their prices for the amount of data you would get and make sure you ask which carrier you would be assigned in Mexico. Telcel and Movistar are popular choices for roaming partners in Mexico so obviously if you want Telcel coverage you do not want someone providing Movistar roaming. Sometimes they offer roaming on Telcel, Movistar, and AT&T or any combination of these 3. Sometimes they only offer roaming on one carrier so if that is the case you definitely want to make sure you are getting the network that you want. These roaming agreements change frequently and is not always listed on their website which network they offer. Doesn't hurt to ask. TIPS Tips for persons coming from the U.S specifically. https://prepaidcompare.net is a valuable resource for researching cell phone plans in the U.S. You have the ability to sort and filter through all sort of plans offered by U.S carriers. It even has an option to sort and view carriers that offer Mexico roaming. Many carriers offer special rates for new customers. Some of these carriers offer Mexico roaming and you can utilize this and signup for only the duration that your trip lasts for. Make sure you activate a new U.S plan at least a few days prior to leaving for Mexico. 4-7 days should be good enough for a short trip (up-to 60 days) Activating 1 day before or just prior to arriving in Mexico, you run the risk of getting your plan cancelled. A week in advance should be fine. How to refill/recharge your phone service after you've acquired it? In-Person - A lot of stores offer the ability to refill your phone service at checkout. So many in fact that it may be easier to list those that do NOT offer this. Here is a list of places that AT&T Mexico offers. https://www.att.com.mx/puntos-recarga-tiempo-aire.html It's more or less the same for other carriers as well. The easiest would be a convenience store like Oxxo, 7-11, or Circle K. Online/App - 1. I'm pretty sure every single carrier offers a web portal that you can log in to and pay for a refill. Some may even offer apps you can download and use instead of going to the website. Most of the carriers I listed in this guide have apps. What I like more is having one place that I can pay not just multiple carriers, but also many other multiple digital services. This where I throw my in my recommendation for Cashi. Cashi is a mobile payment app from Walmart Mexico. It allows you to pay inside their stores with their app and also pay for digital services. Multiple cell phone providers are available and I have found it very easy and helpful to use. Download the app, create an account, add some money, and pay for all sorts of things (including in-store at Walmart, Sam's Club, and Bodega Aurrera). KEEP Your SIM/eSIM! Mexican cell phone providers keep your account open even after you stop paying, up-to 12 months (I know Telcel is 12 months, I'm not 100% on the other carriers). Same phone number and everything. If you anticipate returning to Mexico then it would be a good idea to keep the SIM card/eSIM handy, just in case. Even if you yourself don't anticipate returning maybe you can give the SIM to a friend or family. It is as easy as simply refilling the SIM just as you did when it was active. It's also VERY CHEAP! You can pay as low as $10 MXN / $0.60 USD for a 1 day / 1 hour plan and it resets the timeline for cancellation. That's as low as $0.60 a year to keep your Mexican cell phone plan active and ready to be used. If you're in the U.S, then AT&T Mexico can roam in the U.S indefinitely without too much worry of ot being canceled. It would make for a perfect backup SIM/eSIM. Bring a 2nd "Travel" Phone - There are more than few reasons why you should bringing a 2nd phone with you to Mexico. Check out these scenarios. Reason 1 - You are currently financing your phone and thus, stuck with the roaming prices offered by your home carrier because you cannot unlock your device and insert a cheaper SIM/eSIM. Acquiring a 2nd "unlocked" phone will enable you get that cheap SIM/eSIM and use it in that phone in conjunction to your main phone. If you get a dual sim phone then you could even take/transfer the SIM/eSIM from your main phone and move it into your 2nd phone. Enabling you to use the 2nd device exclusively. If you use iPhones, then it so easy to simply sign into iCloud and have a duplicate of your existing phone. Reason 2 - A backup phone, just in case. You'll be glad you have a backup phone if your main one gets stolen, lost, or broken. Nobody wants a vacation ruined by having to head to the cell phone store in a language they don't understand. Reason 3 - An additional phone so you can use it instead of your main phone. Be it for maps, music, watching videos, scrolling through social media. Not having to waste the battery on your main phone can come in real handy. Phones are CHEAP! - A decent used or new iPhone can be acquired for $200 and under. Mid-Range Android phones are abundant and can easily be had for under $200. In the U.S, you can find brand new phones for as low as $20 USD, a decent new one for about $50 USD. Honestly, you should have a backup phone. A one-time purchase and you have a 2nd phone that can be used for multiple reasons (abroad and locally). Final Recommendations - If you are purchasing outside of Mexico/Online then I would say - If you want Telcel coverage, utilize/purchase "carrier roaming" or "eSIM roaming" and work with that. If you want AT&T MX coverage, buy a AT&T eSIM from https://telefoniamx.com/products/esim-at-t-prepago If you want Movistar MX coverage, buy a Movistar eSIM from https://telefoniamx.com/products/esim-movistar-prepago If you want Altan coverage, either https://telefoniamx.com/products/esim-newww or https://planesmexfon.mx seems fine with multiple payment options and similar pricing. If you are purchasing within Mexico/In-Person then I would say - Drop by an Oxxo or 7-11 and get a SIM card there if you can install it by yourself. In and out 5 min. Drop by Walmart and head to the cell phone section and buy service there if you want them to install it for you. That's it! Man this was long! Which plan did you end up going with? Due to the amount of "what phone works with X carrier" posts, here's something I wrote about feature phones and American cell networks.
This is available with inline URLs and the one image that belongs to this piece on my website: https://konat.xyz/in_house/econobox_/cell_usa "Using a feature phone in the USA: a brief guide to carrier activation and MVNOs" This page is not meant to serve as an advertisement for any particular service or product, and has merely been written for informational purposes only. Introduction Unlike many other places in the world, the USA uses a completely different set of LTE bands for cellular communications, additionally, American carriers impose device restrictions, which may adversely impact uses of feature phones, as they often are heavily locked down to the carriers from which they came originally, or have to be imported. This guide simply outlines my experiences dealing with the three major carriers (AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon) and general assumptions about regional carriers (such as U.S. Cellular and Viaero Wireless). AT&T AT&T is potentially the worst provider for feature phone users, given that AT&T enforces a whitelist of devices which may be used on their network (PDF: read the whitelist on KONAT.xyz, mirroring the original on att.com), which impairs the use of feature phones as only a handful of models (mainly AT&T/Cricket branded [in-house] models, US-market Nokias, and rugged/work-oriented devices from manufacturers such as Kyocera). From experience, AT&T's enforcement of the whitelist is generally extremely strict, to the extent that your account may be suspended for using non-whitelisted devices. Even if a device works on AT&T's network and is whitelisted, it may not have additional features (such as WiFi calling) functioning on the network. Additionally, carrier variants of devices (i.e. the variant sold by T-Mobile) may not be whitelisted. Below is a non-exhaustive list of MNOs/MVNOs which do and do not enforce the whitelist; this list may become outdated at any time. AT&T uses LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 14, 17, 30, 46, and 66. In my experience, bands 12, 17 and 2 are the most useful to have in urban areas. Band 14 is used for the First Responder Network Authority (commonly referred to as FirstNet). I would not advise using a device without complete band compatibility outside of urban areas. ENFORCES WHITELIST: AT&T post-paid, AT&T pre-paid, Cricket Wireless (the prior three are all owned by AT&T). The vast majority of MVNOs can also be assumed to be enforcing the whitelist. DOES NOT ENFORCE WHITELIST: H2O Wireless, FreedomPop, RedPocket GSMA T-Mobile In general, T-Mobile can be argued to be the best provider for feature phone users, as it does not enforce a whitelist, and generally allows any device with the LTE bands used in a particular area to function on the network and utilize VoLTE, WiFi calling, or other carrier functions. To further simplify this, this means T-Mobile will allow the use of imported devices which have the band(s) required to function in a particular area, as well as devices from other carriers, in addition to US-market unlocked devices and devices sold specifically for T-Mobile's network. T-Mobile also operates an EDGE/2G network and small slivers of HSPA/3G. The EDGE network is moribund at best (and hasn't been expanded in well over a decade, nor does it appear to be a going concern maintenance-wise), and the remaining slivers of HSPA are officially meant to be offline. T-Mobile's legacy networks should not be depended upon for reliable communication. T-Mobile operates on the following network bands relevant to feature phone users: EDGE/2G: 1900 MHz (PCS) LTE: 2, 4, 5 (only utilized in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina), 12, 66, and 71. From experience, devices lacking any band other than B2 will work in urban areas, but B12 is generally needed for indoors signal. B71 is needed for good coverage in rural areas. As a resource for figuring out which bands are in use in particular areas, take a look at the band rollout map. For reference, MVNOs which operate on T-Mobile include Mint Mobile, Ultra Mobile, MetroPCS (the prior three all are owned by T-Mobile), Tello, and US Mobile. Verizon Wireless I would personally rank Verizon as second-best for feature phone users, as Verizon generally allows any device with LTE band 13 to utilize their network. Verizon does restrict new activations, however, this can be bypassed by activating a new SIM card in a cell phone that is known to work with Verizon (such as an Apple iPhone or similar known-working device) and moving the SIM card to the B13-having feature phone (or other non-accepted B13-having) device after confirming that the activation went through successfully. Devices without B13 may work in urban areas, but may not have voice or SMS functionality (limited to data only), thus, it is a necessity to use a device with B13. Additionally, some MVNOs on Verizon's network (the only one I know of currently is TracFone and associated brands [Simple Mobile, Total Wireless/by Verizon, Straight Talk, et. al.) may bind the SIM card to the device it was activated in, and in this case will likely suspend accounts for moving the SIM, even into another 100% functional device, thus making it impossible to use devices that require the above activation method. Verizon uses the following LTE bands: 2, 4, 5, 13, 46, 48 and 66 MVNOs that operate on Verizon's network include TracFone et. al., Visible Wireless (the prior two are owned by Verizon), US Mobile, and Xfinity Mobile. submitted by /u/SaturnIonFan to r/dumbphones [link] [comments]

Need my US cell phone number to work in Spain, how can I ensure it'll work?
Hi everyone, I am going to Spain for school, but I will need to have access to my phone while I am there. I currently have Cricket Wireless (US no contract cerrier) which does not have any possible service in Spain. I have an iPhone, and I know that I can use the Wifi there, so would getting a data sim card be the best? I am worried because I have read some posts on here of people getting locked out of their phones if they mess up the registration process, so I'm looking for the easiest possible way to go about this to ensure that I will have my phone working. At a minimum, I'd like to have iMessage and be able to take phone calls. Any help would be very appreciated! Cell phones?
My phone is at its end of life. An upgrade through the carrier (Cricket) is $300. I've traditionally bought decent refurbished phones from Amazon for cheap. Lately, Amazon has too many fake packages and too hard to return, and Cricket has really narrowed down what they'll allow to be activated on the network to a handful of high end phones. How do y'all avoid spending $300-$1000 on a phone these days? I want one with lots of storage, good battery life, and a good camera as I do use my phone a lot, especially for mapping. I used to be able to find 2 year old flagstone phones for around $100 and get 2-3 years out of them. This time, I feel cornered into overpaying for a not-great phone to keep my cheap cell service. There's got to be a better way, right? I can't use carriers like Mint because I'm rural and they don't get service anywhere. submitted by /u/One-Possible1906 to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

What Blizzard is doing with Overwatch 2, and what Activision seemingly will do with MW2 regarding certain cell phone plans being required to play, is unacceptable and should be stood up against.
https://www.gamesradar.com/modern-warfare-2-will-have-the-same-pre-paidvoip-phone-restrictions-as-overwatch-2/ It is absolutely ridiculous that I cannot play a game just because I use Cricket wireless. It is absolutely ridiculous that the vast majority of people who use these cell phone providers and don’t cheat are being punished for a small minority of people who cheat by switching accounts/phone numbers. I can’t believe this is happening. We can’t let it continue. With MW2 it’s especially despicable seeing as it’s a $70 game. I have an iPhone and pay for unlimited talk, text and data just like everyone else, I shouldn’t be restricted from playing a game just because it happens to be provided by Cricket. Cheaters who are dead set on cheating will always find a workaround. A lot of them are spending a good amount of money to do so and will have no issue paying to get another phone number. It’s 100% unacceptable and anti-consumerist to bar normal non-cheaters from playing games they enjoy to maybe stop a few cheaters, who will likely still find a way to cheat anyway. We need to make our voices heard, not only with our literal voices (or words on the internet), but with our wallets. This needs to be stopped so that more companies don’t begin to follow suit. Reach out to these companies, shine a light on this ludicrousness whenever/wherever you can, and most importantly don’t give these companies a dime until they drop this discriminatory requirement. submitted by /u/SquiggleDoo to r/gaming [link] [comments]

Cut cell phone expense from $225/month to $90/month by switching to prepaid
I’ll admit it. I’ve always been a phone snob. I had to have the next newest iPhone every time one came out. I’ve also always been a service snob. If I didn’t have the name brand service it wasn’t good enough. Well, that all changed. My wife and I have started budgeting and trying to cut costs in places to start saving more and increase expendable income. This was a great place to start. We had the available funds to buy out our phones and have them carrier unlocked. Once that was done we switched to cricket wireless. I can’t speak for everyone but our service is BETTER now. Do your research and see if a prepaid service around you offers comparable coverage to what you have now. You may be able to save a bundle! Edit: for clarity sake, this is for TWO lines. $45 per line per month. Coverage is unlimited LTE and talk/text. 10gb LTE hotspot We chose cricket because it gets the best service is our area as far as prepaid goes and because we were able to bring the phones we bought out of our sprint contract. Not every prepaid carrier took our phones. submitted by /u/Hweb92 to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]

Picking a new cell phone plan is making me feel old
I've spent about an hour so far and don't seem to be getting any closer. I have 2 phones, 6 GB shared, usually use 3.8 GB. Currently on Verizon, paying $125/mo. So far, the best thing I can find is Google Fi, which puts me at around $75/mo with pretty spotty coverage. Can anyone please please recommend something better? EDIT: going with cricket. is it the cheapest, no, is it the best coverage, no, but it's a close contender for all of these. in case you're interested it'll be $50/mo for 2 lines with 2gb each submitted by /u/frankferri to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

Help with cell phone options
Same issue as rest of the world. 2 smartphones on verizon. 12GB plan. Plan runs $73, 1 line is $36, 2nd line is $63. doing away with smartphones isn't an option for me. I can go less data, but sometimes my daughter who is in college with the second line has no wifi, so she uses up data when she facetimes me. I can make cuts to what we use but I still seem to be looking at $125/month for phones. I HATE THIS! What are my options to get me below $100 submitted by /u/ktm300-77 to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

How I reduced my cell phone bill from $210 to $40
It was a long process (and this is a long post) but it finally paid off, and I no longer feel like I give a limb to a cell phone company every month. When I was 23, I decided to be an adult and get off my family's phone plan and get on a plan with my boyfriend. We both had iPhones and went with Verizon. I can't remember the exact numbers, but our combined bill was some how a crazy $210/month. After moving to PA, I realized that it was crazy and we switched to sprint because they had a cut your bill in half plan. Even though that was advertised, the fine print stated that the cut your bill in half only reduced the amount of your actual plan, and did not count "smart phone access", which turned out to be about $45 more onto the bill. In addition, sprint required that we trade in our 2 iPhones and either bought/leased theirs. We stupidly decided to lease two Galaxy S6s. All in all, our bill turned out to be about $150/mo. Better, but not quite good and I hated that we no longer owned our phones (which made it harder to switch to a new carrier). Finally, after getting fed up about having NO service I began to look at other options. First I needed phones. I applied for an AT&T Access More credit card (shoutout /r/churning!!) I basically was able to buy a new iphone6s for ~$80. I was also blessed that a family member gave us their old iPhone 5s. 2 phones - almost there. AT&T has great service in my area, but their prices are not very competitive. I decided to look into off brand prepaid providers and found Cricket Wireless. They use the same network as AT&T with the only drawback being that data is throttled to a max speed of 8mbs. After getting sprint to agree to let me cancel without a crazy $600 fee (my argument being that they didn't have coverage in my area), I pulled the trigger and signed us up for Crickets 2.5gb/mo plan for $80. A fun fact is that it includes all taxes and fees. $80!! Much better, but I wanted to take it a step further. I was reading about crickets group plans, and they have a program where if you have more people they'll reduce everyone's plan price. (Max 5 lines, and reduces all 5 lines by $20 each for $100 total). I didn't know anyone that also uses cricket, so I posted on the cricket sub Reddit looking for others to join my family plan. I found 3 other people, and we're all signed up!! All in all, my new total is $40/mo! That $40 gets my partner and I full coverage, and we each get 2.5gb/mo, which suits our lifestyle. Also, different referral credits and sign up bonuses netted us about $200 in credits, essentially giving us 4-5 months of free cell service. Cricket is amazing and I totally give them my recommendation! If anyone wants a referral link let me know and it'll give you $25 credit for you and I! If cricket isn't for you I encourage you to find another prepaid service. There is no reason anybody's bill needs to be more than $50/mo. TLDR: Verizon (210) -> sprint (150) -> cricket (80) -> cricket group plan (40) EDIT: Some have been critiscizing about the group discount with Cricket, mostly because it's making me dependent on strangers. But the important thing to remember is that this is a prepaid account. They pay me ahead of time for the month. If they do not pay then I can remove their line and I'm not out any money. But so far everyone in my group has been reliable. submitted by /u/yipskip to r/Frugal [link] [comments]

What do you pay for your cell phone?
My AT&T sentence is up in October, so I'm looking at other options for my wife and I. Right now we are on a 4-person plan with my parents and paying $86/mo for our contribution to the plan. But I feel like more fat can be trimmed. I'm looking at Ting, Cricket, and TMobile prepaid's $30 plan. What do you use? How many phones, how much data, and how much per month? submitted by /u/thecw to r/personalfinance [link] [comments]
