It seems like most sticks of deodorant go for around £5 now, and that's not even for deodorant + antiperspirant. My question is, what are you currently using and what do you look for in a deodorant. Hoping for more economical options given today's economic situation. Old spice just came out with a “premium” deodorant brand that’s 15-18 bucks. For a stick of deodorant. I’ve been resorting to speed stick, which is cheap and makes me smell good all day, but recently Speed Stick started making aluminum free sticks without advertising it’s aluminum free and I end up stinking. I just came from target and the only Speed Stick they had was aluminum free so I was forced to get some Gillette stick which turned out to be 8 fucking bucks. Just what the fuck. I (26f) have been seeing this guy (25m) for a couple of months. Everything’s great except for the fact that he wears natural deodorant (super health conscious) and he smells. It’s honestly killing off some attraction I have towards him. I don’t think he knows, and even if he did know I’m not sure he would switch. It gets in my hair, and on me during physical intimacy, so when I leave I smell just like him. I don’t know how much longer I can go without saying something, but at the same time I don’t even know how you tell someone “Hey, I know you don’t like to use deodorant with aluminum because you’re freaked out ab cancer, but for the love of god I hate that I spend time washing and doing my hair only for it to last one night bc it smells like your armpit sweat after I leave your house.” Obviously, I would never say that, but it’s what I feel inside. So, how do I broach this subject. Can I even at this point? We’ve been seeing each other infrequently. Edit: I wrote this at 3 am and didn’t expect this to blow up like it did. For those of you asking why I would date someone who smells? Because he is a good person, and I like him, and because it wasn’t noticeable until after we were physically intimate. No one is perfect. That being said, when I bring it up if he refuses to make changes or digs his feet in I will not be able to continue to see him. Final update: I thought some of you were crazy, but apparently the pheromones don’t lie. I won’t go into it, but I found out some things about him through a friend of mine. We are not compatible. So I no longer have to worry about telling him he smells. Good luck to his future partners. Lots to unpack with this guy. Actual final update: Ok, so I ended things with him. Basically it was a combination of not letting me know that he conceal carry’s a gun (he told my friends bf on a double date). Using natural deodorant, shrooms, and diet to fix mental health. Basically, only using crunchy health grifter advice. No doctors, no insurance. Grass fed beef, slather beef tallow on the skin. Carnivore diet (few veggies and fruits, just meat). No wonder he smells like that. His microbiome is crying for some fiber. You definitely need some aluminum if you’re gonna eat like that. Allowing an abusive family member to assault him and his ex girlfriend, talking the gf out of calling the police, and still financially supporting the person. I know that abusive situations are difficult, but my god is that scary. Add the gun into the situation, and you have a recipe for disaster. This is a before and after of a T-shirt that has had underarm stains and deodorant residue - even after washing - that we thought weren't going to come out. The visual part is clear but what the pic can't show is the feel of the shirt. It was sticky and thick in the armpit area. The top pic is after washing and hang dry. I rubbed 365 Sport on the armpit area, let it sit for an hour or two, and then washed with 365 Sport and citric acid. It was hung dry and look at the difference - the shirt is like new! I know this question is ridiculous, but I'm genuinely curious. A buddy of mine swipes his deodorant 23 times under each armpit. When I asked him why so excessive, he told me he doesn't feel "clean" if he does it any less. "Not even like.. 22? It must be 23?" He replied yes, it has to be 23. The man's got some weird OCD in that aspect of life that I can't even attempt to fathom and he's fully aware of it lol. Love him to death though. Anyways, I started counting my swipes out of curiosity, and on average I do 4 under each armpit. Up - down - up down. What's your count? Do you even have one or are my friend and I just weird for even counting? LOL EDIT: A lot of people are saying they spray and recommend for me to suggest it to my friend. Guys... you and I both know that he'll probably hold down the spray for 23 seconds on each armpit. I'd rather not be responsible for his suffocation. Not to mention, I still sweat through the spray. I was streaming a tv show and was interrupted by a commercial for deodorant (frustrating in itself, but a topic for a thread of its own) and then another deodorant ad from a different brand, both encouraging us to use the product ALL OVER our bodies instead of just our armpits. Has anyone else noticed this brazen advancement of marketing via shame/insecurity? We stink everywhere now so we should use deodorant in 4-5 places instead of under the armpits? Am I crazy? Edit: I should have done this in the original post but I found the commercials in question. See comments for links. Edit 2: If you sweat in places other than your pits and use deodorant there you don’t have to tell me. I’m really thinking of how marketing encourages over-consumption which is what I thought this sub was about calling out.
