Setup Ideas? (Help)
Almost finished decorating my room and I'm looking for ideas as to how I should position my desk and setup! My Equipment: Desktronic homeone desk (standing desk) Mabook m4 pro Dell 27 plus monitor Mouse and keyboard Shure sm7b + boom arm The desk can only be placed in the middle of the room where the ceiling is the highest because I like to stand and work. I used to have my back facing the submarine window but I think I want to be facing it this time with my back to the door. I don't want any glare at all and I'm open to either using a macbook stand as a second monitor instead of clamshell mode or buying a new monitor and making it vertical next to my current dell one. Looking for some nice yellow lighting to feel more coz and also the sofa has to stay in the room Any ideas would be appreciated! submitted by /u/sammyfudger123 to r/desksetup [link] [comments]

AITA for not allowing others to use “my office”
I (27F) rent a house with 2 other girls Tessa (26F) and Charlie (31F). It’s a 5 bed 3 bath with a finished basement, it’s in a pretty nice neighborhood and we got it for a steal so we’ve been here a couple years. Onto the issue, I work from home and Tessa has a hybrid schedule. When we all moved in Charlie wanted us to pay more rent since we would be setting up offices in the 2 spare rooms. The basement is finished so we offered for her to set up a space just for her down there, but she didn’t like the idea of being banished to the basement (her words). So Tessa and I both agreed to pay a little more rent. However, my condition was my office was not to be a shared space. Tessa didnt care about if other people use her room, but this pissed off Charlie. Charlie started arguing with me about what if she has guests and what if she needs to use an office space for something. Tessa tried to diffuse and said her office could be a mixed use room but that wasn’t good enough for Charlie. After a little back and forth she agreed to the terms and it wasn’t really brought up again for over a year. Well Charlie now has 2 friends coming in from Europe to stay for a couple weeks. She gave Tessa and me a heads up the other morning, fine with us we love having people come stay at the house sometimes too. She then slipped in that they’ll need to stay in both our offices since she doesn’t want them to have to put up with staying in the same room. I reminded her of my conditions of paying the extra rent and all hell broke loose. She called me self centered and a possessive weirdo and stormed off huffing. Even without the boundary, I can’t just give up my office for a couple weeks. I would have to move my whole set up to my bedroom, and I have a job that requires me to have multiple screens going with the type of work I do. Tessa is wanting to keep the peace and offered to help me set up something in my bedroom and that maybe I should just drop it. This is really the only issue we’ve ever had, it’s been a great roommate experience otherwise. That has me wondering if maybe I’m not being adaptable enough? So, AITA? Edit: okay I really didn’t think this was gonna be a popular post since it’s just a roommate squabble. Im seeing a lot of the same questions so: Total rent is 1800, Charlie pays 500, Tessa and I each pay 650. We split all utilities 3 ways except internet, Tessa and I split that since we need it to be high speed. The house is about 1600 sq ft without the basement, i cant remember the exact square footage of the basement. The offices are the smallest rooms, and I could technically move my desk into my bedroom. However moving my setup to the basement would take extra work as my desk wouldn’t fit down the stairs. Charlie does not want her guests in the basement because it’s not as nice as the rest of the house, and I think it might be because my office and Tessa’s offices are pretty cute, we’ve decorated them pretty well. submitted by /u/Past_Yak_9832 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

Looking for ideas to bring this desk setup to life while keeping it minimal. I’m thinking about adding a nice pair of speakers on the sides of the desk, and I definitely feel like that white wall behind it needs something. I’m also planning to remove the Groot plant since it’s dying out. Laptop setup upgrade ideas?
Running a pretty simple laptop setup right now and I’m curious if anyone has ideas for upgrades or improvements. I’ve tried using an external monitor before, but my desk is fairly shallow and it made the setup feel cramped. A wall mount isn’t an option at the moment since I’m moving in about 3 months and don’t want to make new holes in the wall. Currently just using the laptop on a stand with a separate keyboard and mouse. There’s also a USB hub sitting underneath the stand handling ethernet and two wireless dongles. Would love to hear if anyone has added something small to their setup that made a big difference. submitted by /u/XDLaRsen to r/setups [link] [comments]

[WIP] Dual Karlby Standing Desk Setup
We finally moved in to our house, and now we have a decent space to do whatever we want! I had to start with the desks as I work from home, and came up with this dual Karlby standing desk setup for me and my wife. Still pretty much lifeless as we need to paint the walls and decorate a bit, but I’m looking for any advice or ideas on how to keep the setups cleaner and specially how I can improve the cable management under the desks. Need help creating a calm & functional desk setup (feels cramped + impersonal)
Hey everyone - looking for some advice on improving my desk setup. Right now, my workspace works, but it doesn’t feel good to use. It feels cramped, shallow, and kind of sterile, and I’m struggling to make it feel calm or cozy without sacrificing functionality. I mainly use it for gaming and general productivity, but I find myself subconsciously avoiding using it for more than an hour at a time. Main issues I’m noticing: Desk feels too shallow, so I’m sitting very close to my monitors Because of that, everything feels visually cramped and overwhelming Monitors feel too close to my face even though they’re standard size Overall setup feels impersonal and not relaxing to sit at for long periods I want it to feel more intentional and cozy, not just “computer on a table” Current setup details: Sit/stand desk (approx. standard depth) Dual monitors (not ultrawide) PC tower on a side cabinet next to desk Minimal accessories (keyboard, mouse, small lamp) Limited room depth, so pushing the desk far back isn’t really an option What I’m hoping for: A calmer, more spacious-feeling setup Better monitor distance / ergonomics Ideas to make it feel more human and cozy (without clutter) Layout or furniture suggestions that work in a smaller room I’m open to: Desk depth solutions Monitor arm ideas Layout changes Lighting suggestions Anything you’ve done that made a desk feel less stressful and more enjoyable Photos attached; would really appreciate any feedback or ideas 🙏 submitted by /u/Soggybot to r/desksetup [link] [comments]

Fried my $2000 pc in first week of use.
Hello, I’m young and clearly still can’t make good financial decisions and this time I happened to make a really stupid one. I decided to spend more money then I had at the time on a pc parts. Never built a pc before, never had one before, not even sure what my thought process here was. Gonna get straight to the point now, I built the pc and somehow it worked first time turning it on. It was fine for almost a week, installed windows, drivers, thought I had it all figured out. Two days ago I decided I wanted to watch tv. So I had bought a brand new surge protector specifically for this pc, didn’t have anything else plugged into it besides the pc for a while. That day, I was wearing a Sherpa jacket, those fuzzy on the outside half zip up for those who don’t know or if I’m wrong about the name. Anyway the tv cord was dusty, and I ever so smartly thought it was a good idea to rub off the dust with the fuzzy jacket. I physically cringed at the sound it made and when I plugged it in I saw visual sparks as it went in. Not anything alarming (or so I thought) and watched tv for a whole. Few hours later I go to turn on my pc and, rrrrrrrrrr POP. Lights shut off instantly and never turned back on again. Whipped my phone out and onto google and realized I was just as naive as I thought I was before building the pc. Had no idea what I was doing going into it and spent over $2000 on an entire setup including desk and peripherals just for it now not even able to work. I’m not sure what I’m asking here, but it’s both advice and a reality check. I’ve included a crappy picture of what it looked like plugged in but powered off so you have a visual afterwards the light no longer showed when plugged in. If you do respond please note (if you haven’t realized already) I don’t know what I’m doing or got myself into. Currently plan to bring it to a local pc repair shop specializing in gaming pc’s, paying for whatever repairs and replacements after checking the warranties and then selling it because it was a really stupid idea. New space for the desk setup (:
After several weeks of searching for the ideal place, I finally moved 🤍 This time the change was bigger, I didn’t just update my setup, I changed my entire space. A new place, new energy, and more motivation than ever to keep building the desk setup of my dreams. The past few weeks have been full of work and stress finding the new place, so I want to highlight the 5 pieces that have helped me survive jajaja (: -Chair: ErgoChair ultra 2 by Autonomous -Monitor Light: Phive monitor light -Docking station: Raycue 128k -Keyboard: Lofree block -Bonus: my decoration with some of the things I like the most and my glasses (: Now I'm wondering if maybe I should do something on the high wall above the shelves. What do you think? Any ideas? submitted by /u/lovimaju to r/workstations [link] [comments]

Current setup; any ideas for improvement?
This is my current home office setup. Spend a lot of my time working from here so am looking for any and all suggestions to enhance the setup for better productivity or even general vibe/feel of the space! Current list of aspects I’d love to improve; Office chair: - don’t love the comfort of long hours in this chair and would like to upgrade - although I do stand at this desk a lot - I just like to mix things up throughout a work day and would like a more comfortable seated option with multiple heights Office storage: - any standing desk desk drawer suggestions? - short/small office cabinets that could go well under the standing desk Other??? submitted by /u/AdJaded9264 to r/homeoffice [link] [comments]

Homelab in a Steel Box—Year One Recap
I started building this space about two years ago. At first, it was just meant to be a lab—a spot to stash my growing pile of e-waste and tinker with old servers, routers, and mystery gadgets. I wanted somewhere to bring them back to life—or at least take them apart and pretend I knew what I was doing. But it didn’t take long to realise the space needed to be networked. Not just a standard network—a fast and future-proofed one. The plan was a simple one, but what was to be a basic P2P link from the house escalated into burying 100 metres of fibre up the driveway. Overkill? Depends on who you ask, but I knew it had to be done. I’ll probably still add that P2P link one day—for redundancy, of course. With the network sorted, shifting my core setup and homelab out here made perfect sense. No more servers humming in the house—just peace, quiet, and extra room. From there, I hardwired everything—the house, the shed, even the mushroom farm next door. Because apparently, fungi demand better Wi-Fi than most people. The space is now split into efficient and functional zones. The workstation is where ideas happen, and the workbench is where those same ideas fall apart and get rebuilt. The cabinet is the engine, while the cabling section—once an overflow storage space—now looks almost professional. Storage is organised, with shelves for computers, components, servers, and networking gear. A four-tier cabinet holds refurbished builds, ready to use or sell if the mood strikes. Between the workstation and workbench sits the sim rack, which powers most of the desk and simplifies builds with a dedicated switch that provides access to each VLAN. Then there’s the free-standing rack, the nerve centre for the network and mushroom farm’s tech backbone, managing numerous access points, sensors, and occasional crises. At the top, the router—a repurposed server with LED flair—manages the two fibre cores. One beams in Starlink magic, and the other trunks the container and house. Below that, the KVM stands by for emergencies, while the NAS, compute server, and backups handle the heavy lifting. A capable UPS keeps it all running in the event of an outage, until the diesel generator kicks in—because downtime isn’t an option. It’s been my command centre for the past year now. Having been continuously improved upon and tweaked, I can say with confidence that I’m happy with it. No further changes planned—unless the lure of a 10G upgrade proves too tempting. With the infrastructure locked in, I can finally focus on expanding hosted services and maybe tackling the e-waste mountain. Who knows—this might even turn into a side hustle. Otherwise, I’ll at least reclaim some desk space. submitted by /u/retrohaz3 to r/homelab [link] [comments]

AITAH? Husband accused me of "financial infidelity"
Husband (33M) and (33f) have been married for 10 years, together since college. Since starting out we have made financial security a priority and have been able to achieve that, albeit with some good luck along the way. We both have good jobs (paying close to 200K each). Student loans were paid off within a few years (both went to state schools with some scholarships so didn't have a lot of debt to begin with), we live in a house I inherited from my grandmother (no mortgage), and don't have any credit card debt. We max out our 401(k)s and currently have 18 months of expenses in our emergency fund and are still adding to it. Our cars are both paid off and should be good for another 5+ years and we don't have any credit card debt. We manage our finances in a hybrid manner - joint accounts for bills and savings, and separate accounts for our "fun" money (we each get a pretty generous monthly allotment). The fun money is strictly for our individual expenses (hobbies, clothes, outings with friends, etc.) and NOT for things like date nights, vacations, or larger joint purchases like household appliances and repairs which come out of our joint account. We also agreed that if either of us gets any bonuses (or has any side hustle income) those will go into our individual fun money accounts, unless the funds are needed for a larger expense such as a major home repair. In terms of the "fun" money, my husband is much more of a spender than I am due to expensive hobbies (in particular golf and collecting sports memorabilia, and he's also more into designer clothes), which is fine - it's his fun money! On the other hand, my hobbies are a lot less expensive (running/working out, reading, baking). In general I'm more introverted and a great time for me is tea with a friend at one of our homes, with homemade pastries. I have also been getting back into gaming lately after setting it aside for much of the past decade while building my career. After realizing I had more than enough in my fun money account, I decided to overhaul my gaming setup and got myself a new PC, desk and gaming chair (total cost of about $5,000). However, upon hearing about the purchase, my husband is furious. He says he had no idea I had saved so much money and that I should have consulted him before spending $5K. I asked what difference it made if it was my own accrued fun money and not our joint funds, and he insisted that my accumulating this amount, without telling him, was a form of financial infidelity. He says he lost trust in me and doesn't know what else I might be hiding. He is demanding that I return the items I purchased and deposit most of the funds to our joint account. He wants to make a new rule that fun money accounts can't accumulate more than $2K and that any excess goes back to the joint account (a rule that would obviously favor him as a person who spends most of his allotment each month instead of saving up for anything bigger). I feel like I am being punished for being more of a day-to-day saver than spender. It wouldn't occur to me to demand to know how much my husband has in his fun money account or to try to micromanage what he spends it on. I wasn't hiding anything deliberately - he never asked about it until after I made the purchases. Still, maybe I should have been more transparent about my plans. So AITAH? Miscellaneous Info: Husband and I each have our own office/hobby room in the house so it's not like the gaming setup was going in a space he uses. I don't usually game when my husband is home unless he's already busy doing something else - my biggest block of gaming time is typically when he's off playing golf. Also, I run 40-50 miles a week so it's not like I am generally sedentary. I can't think of a good reason why he would object to me gaming or having a nice gaming setup in my own space in the house. submitted by /u/LadySavings to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

My Stealth Gaming Setup (PS5) Nothing too crazy. The whole idea was to create a setup that can be 4-in-1. A gaming setup, a product showcasing desk, a drafting table and a meeting table. :)
