I Made an application to organize my desktop
I made a desktop widget app for Windows because nothing else fit my needs I wanted to organize my desktop group my apps, see my system stats, control my music but couldn't find anything that actually fit what I was looking for. Everything was either too bloated, too ugly, or just didn't work the way I wanted. As a 4th year software engineering student I figured, why not just build my own? So I did, with Python and tkinter. It's still early but it works well and I've been using it daily. Would love to hear what you think. submitted by /u/Majestic-Skin2745 to r/software [link] [comments]

I built a desktop app to manage and organize Ableton Live projects with Versionning and Arrangement view — looking for beta testers
Hey everyone, I'm a software developer and music production enthusiast. Like many of you, I've accumulated tons of Ableton projects over the years with no real way to keep track of them — filenames like beat_final_v3_REAL_final.als, no version control, no idea which plugins I used, you know the drill. I looked for a tool that could fix all of this, but nothing out there fully matched what I needed. So I started building audyn.app What is Audyn? Audyn is a standalone desktop app that automatically scans and organizes your Ableton projects. Think of it as a project manager built for music production. Core features: Project scanning — Point it at your working folders and Audyn will automatically read and index your projects Metadata extraction — Extracts tempo, time signature, key, track count, arrangement structure, plugins used, samples, and more Search across all projects — "Find every project in D minor at 140 BPM" or "every project using Valhalla Vintage Verb" Arrangement view — Quickly preview your project layout and structure without waiting for Ableton to load the project Collections & tags — Organize your projects into collections, add tags, track progression, filter and search however you like Version history — Audyn detects and indexes your project versions. You can create snapshots, roll back, and visualize changes between each version Quick open — Open any project directly in Ableton from Audyn with one click Missing plugins & samples detection — Know before opening a project that it has missing dependencies, so you're never surprised by broken sessions Templates — Save templates, browse them visually, and create new projects from them Project stats — See your most used plugins, tempo trends, track counts, and more across your entire library Supported versions: Ableton Live 10, 11, and 12 — all editions (Intro, Standard, and Suite). Under the hood For the curious: Audyn decompresses and reads Ableton save files (.als) directly. Everything is local — nothing is sent to any server. The app is built with Tauri (Rust backend, React frontend), making it lightweight and extremely fast. Current state The app is in closed beta. The core features listed above are implemented and working. I'm actively iterating based on early feedback and polishing the experience before a public release. What I'm looking for I've been working on Audyn for several months now and I've reached a point where I need honest outside feedback from people who actually deal with the problems Audyn is trying to solve. I'm looking for beta testers who: Work on multiple projects at a time (10, 50, 500 — doesn't matter) Are willing to give feedback and report bugs Professional or hobbyist — I want perspectives from everyone A few notes I plan to release Audyn on both Windows and Mac. However, I can't offer a Mac version just yet — it requires an Apple machine and an Apple Developer license, which I won't invest in until I'm confident there's enough interest in the app. EDIT : MacOS version is now available for beta users. I want to be transparent: I've been working on this project full-time for several months and I don't plan to release Audyn as completely free software, though there will be a limited free tier. That said, beta testers will receive a lifetime Premium license as a thank you for helping me build the app. If you're interested, feel free to DM me. I'm also happy to answer any questions about the app right here. Thanks for reading! submitted by /u/Nhelis to r/ableton [link] [comments]

New to macOS - How Do You Organize Your Desktop?
Hi, I recently switched to macOS after many years of using Windows, and I would love some advice on how to properly organize the desktop. On Windows, the icons are much smaller, so I used to keep quite a lot of files and folders directly on the desktop because it was convenient. On macOS, the icons are noticeably larger, so fewer items fit on the screen. I know it's possible to reduce the icon size and spacing to fit more, but I'm not sure if that's actually a good practice or if I'm approaching this the wrong way. I also read that every time you return to the desktop, macOS re-renders the icons, so it's better not to overload it. Is that something I should really be concerned about? I’m using two 24-inch monitors, each at 1920x1080 (Full HD). I’d really like to hear how you personally organize your desktop on macOS. If you’re willing to share screenshots or examples of your setup, that would be amazing. Thanks! submitted by /u/HavivMuc to r/MacOS [link] [comments]

I made a free, open-source desktop app to organize and analyze all your DJI flight logs privately in one place (supports Windows, Mac and Linux)
Hi everyone! I’ve been working on a passion project to help visualize my own flight data, and I wanted to share it with the community. I named it DJI-logbook and it is very easy to get up and running because you can directly download the prebuilt standalone binaries (for Windows and MacOS) and start the application. Of course if you are interested, you are welcome to look through the code and leave any suggestion. I know many of us are wary of uploading our flight logs to random cloud services just to see a chart. So, I built this tool to be 100% local. Your data never leaves your computer, it’s stored in a high-speed local database (DuckDB) and you can have as many logs as you want/have - there is no limit at all. I have added the quite interesting features where you can track health of a specific battery (with it's serial number), and see how the battery % used per minute decline over time, giving you indication when to change a battery. Key Features: 3D Flight Paths visualization: visualize your flight path over interactive 3D terrain. You can see the actual height of the aircraft and look at that from different angles. I find that super cool tbh! Overview of all flights: Overall stats combining all your flight stats! You can see a GitHub style heatmap of your most active days in the year! Privacy: No cloud uploads. Everything stays on your drive. Available in both dark and light mode, supports both metric and imperial units. Exports: Direct CSV, JSON, GPX, and KML export from the flight stats bar Analytics: Battery health monitoring, RC signal strength, speed, and altitude charts. Flight Journal: Searchable, sort-able history with filters for specific drones or batteries. Fast Import: Drag-and-drop bulk import for your DJI .txt logs. Supports multiple file upload in one go. Some similar analysis you can get from similar cloud based applications, but they won't let you have/analyze more than 100 log files at a time, so it can get limited as you progress over time. Also, you have to upload the flight data, with lots of sensitive info to a 3rd party server. This application costs $0, open source for peace of your mind, runs completely locally, and you have full control over your data, and above all super easy to install! It supports Mac, Windows, and Linux. This is in it's early development phase and also I’m just a solo dev/pilot making this for the community and myself, so I’d love to hear your opinion and support! Check it out on GitHub: https://github.com/arpanghosh8453/dji-logbook/ The standalone installers/binaries are available on the release page : https://github.com/arpanghosh8453/dji-logbook/releases Happy flying! submitted by /u/funyflyer to r/dji [link] [comments]

Is it normal to do basically nothing at your corporate job?
Six months ago, I was hired as a data analyst at a large insurance company after finishing my master's program. The interview process was thorough—a technical assessment where I had to clean messy data and build visualizations, a case study presentation, and a couple rounds of behavioral interviews with some SQL questions thrown in. Nothing too extreme, but enough to make me think this would be a challenging role. Now I'm here with a 6 figure salary and benefits in a hybrid role (2 days in office, 3 remote), but I spend most days with surprisingly little to do. My first project was cleaning up our customer dataset and building some marketing dashboards. I worked efficiently, finished ahead of schedule, and my manager was genuinely impressed with the results. But since completing that project three months ago, I've had minimal work. I occasionally get requests for data pulls or simple visualizations that take maybe 30 minutes. I've started using some basic tools and approaches that just seemed logical to me. I built a few reusable templates in our BI tool that I can modify for different requests. The marketing director called me a "visualization genius" in a meeting because I used a different chart type than the pie charts they've apparently been using since 2003. The marketing team thinks I'm working overtime because I schedule emails with their requested reports to send at 6:30am. In reality, I finished them at 2pm the day before and spent the rest of the afternoon watching YouTube videos about beer brewing. I mostly use Chatgpt to help write my SQL queries. My 58-year-old manager walked by my desk last week, saw some basic subqueries on my screen and said, "Wow, you young folks really understand this database stuff intuitively." Sir, I literally just asked an AI to write this for me. I wrote a small Python script to help the sales team consolidate their weekly reports (honestly, I just described the problem to Chatgpt and tweaked the code it gave me). We literally covered this exact task in my data processing course, but they acted like I'd invented electricity. The sales director wanted to know my "secret" to solving their problem so quickly. My secret is that I'm not using Excel formulas for everything like it's 1998. For weekly department meetings or any other meeting with way too many people in it I use an ai note taker (yapnote) so I don't have to pay attention during call. When someone asked about a detail from last month's meeting, I just asked ai about it topic while everyone was still debating what was said. Do people not know that you can do this?? I genuinely work maybe 10-15 hours a week. The rest of the time I'm just... waiting. Reading wait but why posts. Watching woodworking videos. I even started baking bread smh. Organizing my desktop folders by color (don't judge me, we all have our ways of maintaining sanity). Is this what corporate America is actually like? In school, professors warned us about the "demanding corporate environment" and "high-pressure deadlines." My biggest pressure right now is pretending to look busy when my camera is on during team calls. Last week, I got called into an unexpected meeting with my manager. I was convinced they'd figured out I wasn't doing much. Instead, he asked if I'd be willing to help other team members "level up their technical skills." I'm not even sure what skills I'm supposed to be sharing—using the search function? Knowing how to clear the cache? How to ask Chatgpt? Is this normal? Did I accidentally hack corporate life? Or am I missing something fundamental about how work is supposed to function? I feel like I'm in some weird corporate twilight zone where perception completely disconnects from reality. submitted by /u/Cold-Cauliflower9741 to r/careerguidance [link] [comments]

Small screen size when working remote? Use Virtual Desktops for real estate and organization.
This is just an info post for those who aren't aware of it (let's not turn it into a "I have five 42" 4K monitors in my remote home office" contest). I just ran into a couple of junior folks who had no idea about this functionality. If you're stuck working remote with just a laptop, that 14-15" screen gets pretty cramped for a sysadmin in about 10 seconds. One way to mitigate the pain is to use your OS's virtual desktops functionality. Here's links to guides for Windows, Ubuntu, and MacOS on how to get started with them for your OS. Using Windows as the example, you just press Win-Tab and click the plus sign at the top for New Desktop. Then drag existing windows on to it, and now they're on a separate screen. To quickly move between virtual desktops, you can use the CTRL-WIN-left/right arrows. Once you get in a habit of using them, it's great for keeping multiple small applications visible on a whole desktop, or multiple full screen apps on their own window that you don't have to constantly minimize/maximize. You can use Win-Tab (or the Task View button next to the Cortana button on your taskbar) to mass organize things or rearrange, and your Taskbar will reflect what items are open on that particular Desktop. Alerts and notifications will still appear, even if you're on a different virtual desktop, and interacting with the notification will teleport you to the relevant desktop. Just a friendly info post for those who weren't aware of it, hadn't tried it before, or had forgotten about it. Edit: I'm delighted with how the discussion has gone. Great tips, guidance, and alternatives from everyone. submitted by /u/adx442 to r/sysadmin [link] [comments]
