PlayStation Studios | All upcoming announced, rumored, and leaked projects
A mix of rumors, leaks, and confirmed titles from PlayStation's first-party studios. Naughty Dog: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Release window: 2027 Director: Neil Druckmann Said to be inspired by Elden Ring in terms of player freedom. One of the last things we've heard about the game is that ND employees would be working overtime to get the game done. Unannounced Uncharted Project Release window: TBD Director: Shaun Escayg Allegedly in development since 2022. Not much is known about the plot, and some claims like it being a dual protagonist title with Nate and Cassie have been debunked, at least for now. The Last of Us Part III Release window: TBD Director: Neil Druckmann Teased many times at this point by Neil Druckmann and ND developers in interviews. Lots of storylines that could be part of it have been teased, like a story with Tommy, a continuation of the Fireflies story, and a congregation of immune people. Santa Monica Studio: God of War: Faye Spin-off Release window: 2027 Director: Cory Barlog Plot claimed to be centered on Faye and Tyr traveling to different mythologies in a time before GOW (2018). These reportedly include Mayan and East Asian mythologies. God of War 6 Release window: TBD Director: TBD In one of the earliest reports regarding the Faye spin-off, FandomWire claimed that a project led by Atreus was simultaneously being worked on as a direct sequel to Ragnarok. God of War Trilogy Remake Release window: TBD Stated by Christopher Judge to include a new combat system. God of War: Sons of Sparta 2 Release window: TBD According to Erfan, one of the first leakers of Sons of Sparta, an entire 2D trilogy was in the cards, but it depended on the first game's reception. Insomniac Games: Marvel's Wolverine Release date: September 15, 2026 Director: Marcus Smith What's left to say about this game that hasn't leaked? Marvel's Venom (i30d) Original release window: 2027 MP1st claims that the game will star Eddie Brock as the protagonist. Carnage is the main villain, and Anti-Venom would make an appearance in some capacity. Marvel's Spider-Man 3 (I34) Original release window: 2028 Cindy Moon (Silk) has been added as a protagonist alongside Peter and Miles. Green Goblin would act as the main villain and have a goblin army. There's also a chance of Spider-Man 2099 making an appearance. Ratchet & Clank: Rag Tag Team (I37) Original release window: 2029 Follow-up to Rift Apart, about discovering the full Lombax society living in a city within a dimensional containment field. The villainess is a female Lombax. Marvel's X-Men (I35) Original release window: 2030 Not much is known about this, except that it probably ties in with Wolverine's post-credit scene, which teases Apocalypse . New IP (I36) Original release window: 2031/32 In the leaked Insomniac data, there were several pitches for new IPs, with the strongest considerations being: Subject Zero, Generator, Pearl, and The Quarter. Firesprite: Until Dawn 2 (Project Heartbreak) Release window: TBD Animation director: Mondo Gulam Writer: Pierre Sheret According to Colin Moriarty, the game is set on an island with a female lead. Guerrilla Games: Horizon: Hunter's Gathering Release window: 2027 (Potentially) Co-op Horizon game with a different art style. Some closed betas have already happened, so there's a chance for the full release to happen next year. Horizon 3 Release window: TBD According to Jason Schreier, it's still a long way off from launch, since Hunter's Gathering took most of their workforce. Bungie: Destiny 3 Release window: TBD Reported last year by Deakstiny to be in "extremely early development," so no one should expect this until the next decade at the earliest. Haven Studio: Fairgame$ Original release window: 2025 Heist game announced in 2023, and the only thing we've seen from it is a CGI trailer. Insider Gaming recently released some info about it, and based on playtesters, the game isn't fun... Housemarque: Saros Release date: April 30, 2026 We know pretty much everything we need to know about this game, and the release is just around the corner 🎉 teamLFG: Gummy Bears Release window: TBD The Game Post describes it as a MOBA with some Smash Bros elements. It would have entered a pre-alpha testing stage last year, and it was also discovered that a Discord server was created for the game. Bend Studio: Unannounced Live-Service Project Release window: TBD Suggested by job listings to be yet another live-service title, after the cancellation of their latest MP project, "Mirror Pond". Some other studios about which we know close to nothing for their next projects are: Sucker Punch Productions, Team Asobi, and Media Molecule. We also have Polyphony Digital, from which we can expect more Gran Turismo, and San Diego Studio, with MLB The Show. submitted by /u/KekanKok to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours [link] [comments]

Any fellow gaming nurses?
I’m 33 years old, and I don’t necessarily dedicate my life to gaming, but when I’m off shift after completing my 3 days, I typically have four days off. Hitting up the gym and doing some study. Other than that, there is a part of me that I wonder if there are any other nurses out here that play video games, and which ones? I kinda jump back and forth between my PS5 and PC. Was a big old school RuneScape player, almost maxed out with only two skills left, but didn’t really have any legit people to play with, so I stopped about a month ago. Just trying to see if any nurses still play games in general, and what everyone is playing or recommends? Heck, even if anyone is willing to make some online friends. Blessings in advance! EDITED I was not expecting so many responses, and I want to say I apologize to everyone who comments, past and future, that I don’t reply to. It’s a lot of replies, and I don’t even know how I’ll get to all the replies lmao. If you play OSRS, my name is GirthyAutism; don’t judge the name, lmao. If you want to get some OSRS, just add me. My PlayStation name is Kaelspire. You can also add me on the PS5, and I’ll be down to play. Instead of glazing like 99% of people do, heres a list of why you should remain skeptical.
1. The People Who Actually Played it had concerns The Gamescom and TGA "hands-on" reports weren't all sunshine. Testers complained about a cluttered, messy UI, weird frame drops, Dynamic Resolution instead of native 4k, and controls that felt unintuitive. SDS, and Maximilian Dood also reported boring gameplay loops and outdated mechanics, and 0815 fetch quests outside of boss fights. Literally the ONLY people who ever played it and can speak about it, werent glazing the game AT ALL. 2. Visual Gaslighting If the world feels like an empty, lifeless movie set, the graphics won't save it. And we literally havent seen anything more than mindless hack & slash action, and some random systems. 3. Black Desert Online Pearl Abyss made Black Desert Online. Believing they’ve suddenly pivoted to becoming the next CD Projekt Red or Rockstar for a single-player epic is a huge stretch. 4. 5 Years of Delays Development started in 2019, release was planned in 2021. Its been 6 Years. This isn't just "polishing time" it's a massive red flag for development hell. When a game takes this much longer than anticipated, and shifts from an MMO to a single-player title halfway through, it usually means the foundation is a mess. 5. The YouTuber Grift Your favorite creator isn't your friend; they’re a business. They need those early access codes and "exclusive" invites. Obviously no one is trashing the game. They literally live for views and engagement. If they don’t glaze the game, they lose the excuse to re-upload the same recycled footage for the tenth time while repeating the same scripts we’ve already heard a hundred times. Just look at the Digital Foundry footage. Every single channel is re-uploading it, talking a lot but saying absolutely nothing new. They’re just squeezing every cent out of this hype train while they can. Skepticism doesn't pay the bills; hype does. 6. The Digital Foundry "B-Roll" Trap Everyone is citing the technical analysis, but remember: DF was analyzing footage sent to them by the developers. They didn't run the game themselves on their own hardware. Analyzing a video file provided by a marketing team isn't a benchmark. it's a reaction video. Also since when do we take fking 4.000€ Rigs as reference for good performance?!?!??! 7. Graphics = Gameplay We’ve been burned 50 times before. The Day Before, Anthem, Watch Dogs, Cyberpunk (at launch), No Man's Sky. If you're still praising a game just because it has nice ray tracing, you're the target audience for every "scammy" pre-order campaign in history. 8. The Console Blackout We are two weeks from launch and there is zero raw gameplay from a base PS5 or Xbox. If a developer refuses to show console footage this close to release, it’s because the game runs like a slideshow on anything that isn't a $2,000 PC. 9. ITS GONNA BE BETTER THAN GTA 6 If you share that take, maybe just sit the next few gaming debates out. Comparing Pearl Abyss vs Rockstar Games is not even the same weight class. Rockstar has spent decades building a reputation for absurdly polished, culture shifting AAA releases. When they drop something, it usually lands. Hard. And then there is Grand Theft Auto VI sitting there with reported multi billion investment levels, actual technical patents filed, and the backing of a studio ecosystem that dwarfs most of the industry. Saying it will outperform GTA 6 is not optimism. It sounds like engagement farming. There is a difference between hoping a game punches above its weight and pretending the heavyweight champion does not exist. If people still want to believe marketing over track record in 2026, that is their cardio. Just do not act stunned when gravity continues to function as intended. 10. Previous disasters You want it to win. I want it to win. I like what they have shown. But did collective memory just uninstall itself? Have we learned nothing from the last hundred overhyped disasters? Every time it is the same ritual. Cinematic trailer. Carefully edited gameplay. Influencers lose their minds. Then launch day hits and everyone suddenly discovers what performance issues and missing features are. People are treating this like the second coming of Christ for gaming. Nobody has actually played it. The few who did mentioned serious concerns and pretty mixed feedback. Somehow that part just vanishes from the narrative. 11. Finally, its STILL PEARL ABYSS. Pearl Abyss is not some wholesome indie dev sharing passion projects over Discord. It is a corporation. Corporations optimize for revenue. That is not cynicism, that is literally their job description. And yes, Black Desert Online ended up with a reputation that is… let’s call it aggressively monetized. Enhancement systems tied to cash shop convenience, value packs, artisan memories, weight limits, inventory slots. It became a case study in how far you can stretch the definition of “technically you dont have to buy anything kekw” before everyone rolls their eyes. But now we pretend the company that literally runs one of the most insane Pay2Win MMO currently, all of the sudden is gonna release a Premium AAA single player game? Im not saying its impossible. Im just saying, YOU SHOULD be skeptical. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 So apparently this is now the most engaged thread this subreddit has ever seen. Incredible. All I did was suggest that maybe, just maybe, a little skepticism wouldn’t cause the collapse of civilization. And somehow that translated into people acting like I personally broke into their house and cancelled their pre order. If saying “there are signs to be cautious” triggers a full emotional meltdown, maybe the issue isn’t me. Maybe it’s the cult like attachment to the idea that this game will descend from the heavens and redefine human existence. Relax. It’s a video game. Not the cure for cancer. Not the second coming. Just a product made by a company that likes money. We can disagree. That’s normal. What’s not normal is rage DMing someone because they didn’t clap hard enough at a trailer. Go outside. Breathe some oxygen. The grass is still there. The game will survive a skeptical comment. So will you. //EDIT Keep raging crybabys. Throw me another "just another alt account" "AI wrote this btw" basically everything but trying to counter my arguments (cause you cannot) submitted by /u/Competitive-Pass9585 to r/CrimsonDesert [link] [comments]

Nioh 3 Review Thread
Game Information Game Title: Nioh 3 Platforms: PC (Feb 6, 2026) PlayStation 5 (Feb 6, 2026) Trailer: Review Aggregator: OpenCritic - 86 average - 95% recommended - 82 reviews Critic Reviews ACG - Jeremy Penter - Buy "Nioh 3 rises above some occasional bugs and a couple stinker bosses to be an excellent representation of the middle ground between the older more rigid Dark Souls styles of games and the wider Elden Ring. The two class system works well enough and the game has enough systems to keep almost anyone locked into mini maxing for the next 4 months" AltChar - Denis Haman - 10 / 10 Nioh 3 delivers everything Nioh fans wanted - refined combat, smoother progression, and gorgeous visuals - without sacrificing the brutal challenge that defines the series. This is iterative design at its finest. Analog Stick Gaming - Jordan Andow - 8.5 / 10 If you haven’t played Nioh before but you enjoy soulslikes and character action games, then this is definitely a game you need to try. Its focus on player choice in approach, combined with more cinematic storytelling than its competition have made it my favourite game in the genre so far. Atarita - Seyidcem Öztürk - Turkish - 85 / 100 With its deep, enjoyable combat and build variety, Nioh 3 stands out mechanically but falls short in terms of visuals and story. Boomstick Gaming - Boomstick Alex - Yes Nioh 3's combat system has achieved perfection But Why Tho? - Abdul Saad - 8 / 10 Nioh 3 is a fantastically crafted game that blends several intricate and engaging elements to produce a great combat experience. While it has some issues that hinder gameplay, it’s still one of the most engaging soulslikes. CGMagazine - Zubi Khan - 7 / 10 Nioh 3 expands on the formula even further than what came before it, taking lessons learned from games like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Ronin. COGconnected - Mark Steighner - 92 / 100 Nioh has always perched between being niche and mainstream. Nioh 3 should help this excellent series broaden its audience while appealing to long-time fans as well. Lovers of Soulslikes, Team NINJA’s games, and well-made action titles in general won’t be disappointed. Capsule Computers - Travis Bruno - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 evolves the series with open‑field exploration, brutal Crucibles, and a fresh Ninja style, delivering a tough but rewarding sequel despite a few lingering flaws. Cerealkillerz - Gabriel Bogdan - German - 9.1 / 10 Nioh 3 combines all of Team Ninja’s previous ventures into different genres into a comprehensive overall package, offering what is arguably the best gameplay the series has seen so far. The open areas and equipment management may not appeal to every fan of the series, but aside from that, this is one of the studio’s best games to date. We also recommend playing the title in Japanese, due to the poor English voice acting. Cloud Dosage - Jon Scarr - 4.5 / 5 Nioh 3 pushes you to actually use everything it gives you instead of letting one approach carry the whole game. Switching between Samurai and Ninja becomes part of how fights work, and the larger areas give you space to prepare when things feel overwhelming. The story mostly stays out of the way, and loot management can get tiring, but combat stays rewarding once it comes together. It’s demanding, but it gives you room to figure things out without lowering the bar. Console Creatures - Console Creatures Guest - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 fractures Team Ninja’s formula, pushing players to master brutal Samurai power and lethal Ninja agility in every demanding encounter. Digitale Anime - Raouf Belhamra - Arabic - 9.5 / 10 "The pinnacle of the series" Nioh 3 cements Team Ninja's position as one of the top developers of action fighting games. The wide variety of combat systems, the freedom to create characters, and the semi-open level design give the game a strong identity and a cohesive experience. Despite some minor visual quibbles, the technical performance, depth of mechanics, and battle design make it a high-quality experience aimed at players seeking challenge and precision. DualShockers - Scott Baird - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 is an incredible game that expands on the core gameplay of its predecessors and drops players into a vast world where they can unleash their combat potential to their heart's content. It's a huge step-up for the series as a whole, and I'm excited to see where it goes next. EmuGlx.org - Vladimir Glamočanin - Unknown - 9.5 / 10 When you take everything into account, what you get is a fusion of Team Ninja’s incredible attention to detail and clear love for the Nioh series, seamlessly wrapped - albeit rarely so well - into an open-world structure with an outstanding exploration-reward system. As a result, despite a few questionable design choices, you’re left with an exceptional game that never becomes dull for a single moment. Entertainium - Eduardo Rebouças - 5 / 5 Koei Tecmo have gone the extra mile in delivering the most ambicious and positively delicious soulslike with Nioh 3. (Review written in Portuguese for Entertainium Brasil) Eurogamer - Dom Peppiatt - 4 / 5 Innovation is the ki to success for Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo, as Nioh 3 iterates on the formula once more to take an already great 'masocore' series to new heights. Eurogamer.pt - Bruno Galvão - Portuguese - 4 / 5 As a huge Team Ninja fan who has played all their games, it's impossible not to feel that Nioh 3 has become their new benchmark. It continues the work done in Nioh 2, shows that it has learned from Rise of the Ronin and injects new energy with well-implemented mechanics. EvelonGames - Joel Isern Rodríguez - Kaym - Spanish - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 is the natural evolution of a franchise that has truly listened to its community. It retains the hardcore essence and complexity we love, while injecting freshness through the new Ninja Style and open-field exploration. Although it isn't technologically flawless in its larger environments and the narrative won't be winning any Oscars, the gameplay at the controls is, quite simply, second to none. GAMES.CH - Benjamin Braun - German - 88% Quote not yet available Game Rant - Josh Cotts - 9 / 10 With its Ninja style, Style Shift system, and open-field design, Nioh 3 pushes movement and player freedom further than any entry before it. GamePro - Samara Summer - German - 83 / 100 Quote not yet available GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 10 / 10 With its new open field format, Nioh 3 is undoubtedly the best entry in the series yet, giving players more freedom to explore and making the experience feel more seamless. Add on top of that additional new features, such as the ability to switch between samurai and ninja styles on the fly and being able to freely respec, and you have a stellar example of just how good the Soulslike genre can be. This is an early game of the year contender, without a doubt. GameWatcher - Rahul Majumdar - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 is a fast, relentless and tough thrill ride that maintains a great sense of progression while rewarding exploration and player freedom. The sheer amount of options is overwhelming, while opening the door to the souls-like genre for newcomers with its Ninja Gaiden-inspired action. Gameblog - French - 8 / 10 Quote not yet available Gameliner - Joey Visser - Dutch - 4.5 / 5 Nioh 3 is a strong addition to the franchise, offering an engaging story, deep combat, and a rewarding open-field design that invites constant exploration, and despite occasionally being too easy and not fully showcasing the PlayStation 5’s graphical potential, it delivers a smooth, immersive action-RPG experience. Gamer Escape - Eliot Lefebvre - 8 / 10 The game's sheer complexity and overwhelming mass of systems and stuff makes it a bit hard to recommend, and there were definitely times when I was pulling out my hair in frustration in the game or finding myself unclear on how I was supposed to proceed. I feel like a smaller and more balanced game would have likely been an overall better experience. But at the end of the day, Nioh 3 aims big. While I can't say if it's going to satisfy series fans perfectly, this one is definitely earning a thumbs up from me. Gamer Guides - Echo Apsey - 93 / 100 Nioh 3 feels like the culmination of Team Ninja’s action games since Nioh, offering a delightful new level structure and the most satisfying and flexible gameplay in the series to date. Gamer Social Club - Fraser Billington - 9 / 10 Team Ninja has done a fantastic job of bringing a demon-ravaged world to life. It’s grim, but not too grim. The Yokai are such an interesting enemy, and I find myself pausing and trying to find which enemy I’m fighting. The Onry? They’re terrifying, and I’m more than ok sneaking around them. Gamersky - 奕剑者柴王 - Chinese - 9 / 10 Team Ninja clearly understands what fans of the Nioh series are looking for. As a result, Nioh 3 feels like a Warriors Orochi-style entry made specifically for the Nioh franchise. GamesRadar+ - Luke Kemp - 4.5 / 5 Nioh 3 is tough – brutally tough – but it has a unique sense of accessibility. GamingBolt - Varun Karunakar - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 doesn't settle for iterative improvements. Instead, it pulls together Team Ninja's best mechanics from past entries, folds in welcome touches from its other games, and backs it all up with genuinely strong new additions that feel mechanically sound and consistently engaging. HCL.hr - Hrvoje Smoljic - Unknown - 80 / 100 More than a sequel, this is a snapshot of Team Ninja learning in real time: a bolder structure and smarter flexibility wrapped around the same razor-tuned combat. The story and presentation still lag behind, but when the rhythm clicks, very few studios hit this kind of action high. Hinsusta - Pascal Kaap - German - 10 / 10 Nioh 3 is not just a sequel, but the consistent further development of an already outstanding series. It is the best action RPG of the year and a true masterpiece of its genre! Hobby Consolas - Spanish - 92 / 100 Quote not yet available IGN Italy - Alessandra Borgonovo - Italian - 8 / 10 Nioh 3 is a smart evolution of a winning formula. Team Ninja successfully transitions to an Open Field structure without losing the tightness of its level design, while the new Samurai/Ninja duality adds a fresh tactical layer to an already stellar combat system. The game feels fairer and more accessible than its predecessors, removing artificial frustration in favor of readable challenges. While the narrative plays it safe and side content remains repetitive, the core loop is stronger than ever. A must-play for fans of the genre. IGN Spain - Mario Seijas - Spanish - 8 / 10 Nioh 3 has two pillars: Its duality of ninja and samurai combat and an open world filled with things to do. Fans of the franchise will especially enjoy the fast-paced action and speed, but will also be the victims of its main flaw INVEN - Kyuman Kim - Korean - 9 / 10 An open field and two distinct battle styles mark Nioh 3’s key changes, blending well with the series’ trademark difficulty. While enemy variety remains limited, it is well suited to test your skills and kick off the year with intensity. Insider Gaming - Andrew Highton - 10 / 10 I hope this is the moment where Team Ninja is finally acknowledged as not only a driving force in the Soulslike genre, but for its name to be ranked amongst the best. Nioh 3 is an unbelievable game from start to finish and excels in all aspects of game development. Just Play it - Lamine BENYAHIA - Arabic - 9.5 / 10 Nioh 3 is an unforgettable experience that redefines the series within an enchanting open-world framework. Team Ninja didn’t just continue the legacy. they boldly pushed beyond it, delivering a rich and secret-filled world that carries the soul of the original series while giving it bold new wings. Here, longtime fans are honored with the depth and substance they expect, while newcomers are warmly welcomed through the gates. If you love soulslikes, Nioh 3 is undoubtedly a journey worth taking. KonsoliFIN - Joonatan Itkonen - Finnish - 5 / 5 Nioh 3 still struggles with cheap boss fights and clumsy controls, but the thrilling action and spectacular world design more than make up for its faults. This is the best entry in the franchise and it isn't even close. Loot Level Chill - Mick Fraser - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 moves beautifully with smooth, glowing, brutal combat and a huge array of special abilities to equip and call upon. Lords Of Gaming - Daniel Amoroso - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 somehow further sharpens the series' already razor-sharp combat, elevates the series' world design to a whole other level thanks to its large explorable maps, and packs enough meaningful content into the experience to fill at least two games. Team Ninja is a developer at the top of its game, and you can see how the lessons the studio has learned over the past few years have been put into practice in making Nioh 3 the absolute best it can be. It takes all the best bits of the studio's previous games and blends them almost seamlessly for a near-perfect experience. It once again sets the standard for any Soulslike not developed by From Software. MMORPG.com - George Yang - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 is a triumphant adventure that stands up to the mightiest contemporaries in the Soulslike genre. While the story has you traveling back in time, it feels modern and slick because of the distinguished setting and polished mechanics. The loot situation is still annoying, but this is minor in the grand scope of things. The shift to an open-world is effortlessly handled, feeling like a proper evolution of the series rather than something simply tacked on. It’s impressive how consistently strong the series is, and Nioh 3 does not disappoint. Manual dos Games - Nathan Manoel - Portuguese - 9.3 / 10 Despite being a sequel to an already popular franchise, Nioh 3 emerges as a pleasant surprise by delivering extremely refined combat mechanics and very well-developed open maps that invite exploration, making it a must-play experience for action game fans. MeuPlayStation - Raphael Batista Cabral Xavier - Portuguese - 88 / 100 Nioh 3 proves that sequels can still bring fresh ideas to an established franchise. By introducing more open regions and meaningful side activities, the new soulslike retains the strengths of its predecessors while addressing their shortcomings. The result is a well-crafted narrative, unforgettable boss battles, and a wealth of content, all supported by a progression system that feels inviting to both newcomers and longtime fans. Niche Gamer - Jonathan White - 7.5 / 10 Quote not yet available PPE.pl - Wojciech Gruszczyk - Polish - 8.5 / 10 NiOh 3 is a classic example of a sequel: highly polished, incredibly satisfying in combat, but not necessarily revolutionary. The dual-style system, fluid attack combinations, and well-designed bosses make every victory genuinely enjoyable. The graphics are solid, and the cutscenes can make a great impression... although it's hard to say that the game stands out from the rest of the genre. It's primarily a treat for fans of the series who know what they want. PSX Brasil - Marco Aurélio Couto - Portuguese - 85 / 100 Nioh 3 evolves the series' formula with semi-open world maps and an even deeper and more dynamic combat system, maintaining challenging and highly satisfying encounters. Despite stumbles in the narrative, enemy repetition, and visual aspects, the gameplay remains the highlight of the experience, and should easily please fans of action RPGs. Pizza Fria - Filipe Villela Barroso - Portuguese - 8.5 / 10 Team Ninja managed to take everything that worked in the previous games and expand upon it intelligently, delivering a much more ambitious experience here. PlayStation Universe - Ben Fellows - 9.5 / 10 Nioh 3 represents the series at its most refined and confident. Combat is precise, expressive, and endlessly rewarding, while open-field design gives the world room to breathe without sacrificing focus. Crucibles deliver punishing, carefully balanced challenges that reward preparation and mastery in equal measure. Prima Games - Ali Hashmi - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 is yet another incredible action title from Team Ninja that further refines the series’ formula with thoughtful additions to its combat, most notably the Style Shift system and the Ninja and Samurai forms that come with it. The open field structure is a largely positive change thanks to the added freedom and emphasis on exploration, but it does not feel entirely necessary, coming across more as a remix than a true genre shift. It is packed with content that can easily last hundreds of hours, and the depth of its combat and build systems never stops impressing. Push Square - Liam Croft - 8 / 10 Nioh 3 takes all the best bits from Team Ninja's previous efforts to form its greatest action experience in a very long time. Its new open zone maps provide more ways than ever to engage with its sublime, intense combat system - even if the activities themselves are entirely unoriginal. This is a familiar feeling title for a fanbase that knows what it wants, for few franchises do hardcore action better. Nioh 3 is its latest triumph. RPG Fan - 81 / 100 Nioh 3 hits hard where it counts and stumbles in the spaces between. RPG Site - 8 / 10 The third entry in the Nioh series delivers exciting battles with vastly customizable actions, at the expense of character storytelling and worldbuilding. RPGamer - Jordan McClain - 3.5 / 5 It does maintain ferocious, ruthless, fast-paced action combat, punctuated by blood-pumping compositions, and it has a generally competent story and world built around it. Just don’t expect it to excel in every dimension. ReGame It - Mustafa Zayni - Arabic - 8.3 / 10 Nioh 3 keeps what the series promises us and adds a lot of new things that make the game enjoyable and more fun to play. República DG - Ruancarlo Silva - Portuguese - 9.6 / 10 NiOh 3 is Team Ninja’s magnum opus, the result of years of learning and refinement. The new additions, though driven by market demands, have been brilliantly implemented, fitting seamlessly into the formula established by the studio. With an almost infinite replay factor, NiOh 3 embraces both longtime fans and newcomers, solidifying itself as a must-play masterpiece within the souls subgenre. Saudi Gamer - Arabic - 9 / 10 Nioh 3 is Team Ninja's finest, it improved on what made Nioh 1 and 2 special without losing its identity along the way, a soulslike with a fastpaced combat and tons of exploration. SmashPad - Tanay Sharma - 4 / 5 Nioh 3 is an excellent entry in the series, simply because of how open it is to experimentation. The dual fighting styles between a Samurai and a Ninja highlight this aspect of its gameplay philosophy, and that’s just the beginning of what you can expect from Team Ninja’s commitment to an intricate combat and exploration system. If you’ve never played a Nioh game before, that’s okay! I believe this one can attract a lot of new fans to the series. Spaziogames - Italian - 8 / 10 Nioh 3 is a game that breathes ambition, a title that dares and isn't afraid to throw the player into chaos. It's frenetic, brilliant in many moments, and incredibly rewarding when you master its complexities. The combat system is deep and layered, and the introduction of Samurai and Ninja styles adds a level of tactical choice never seen before. The GameSlayer - Christian Bognar - 9.5 / 10 Nioh 3 does almost everything right for both an action RPG and Soulslike. For an ARPG, it offers some of the most satisfying combat in the entire genre, and as a Soulslike, it has some of the best bosses of any game on the market. Nioh 3 is a masterclass in game design and will go down as one of Team Ninja’s best games. The Games Machine - Danilo Dellafrana - Italian - 9.3 / 10 Quote not yet available The Nerd Stash - Julio La Pine - 9.5 / 10 Nioh 3 is the pinnacle of everything Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo have done. It embraces player freedom at every turn and offers so many choices that every character and playthrough will feel different. The Outerhaven Productions - Keith Mitchell - 4.5 / 5 Nioh 3 doesn't reinvent the series, and it does not need to. Instead, Team Ninja refines nearly every system the franchise has built over the years and layers meaningful additions on top. The dual combat styles, interconnected world, improved co-op structure, and player-friendly respec system all feel like natural evolutions rather than gimmicks. But let's be honest, the reason you're here is the combat, and it does not disappoint. TheGamer - George Foster - 4.5 / 5 Nioh 3 may stumble slightly with its narrative and a bit of bloating from the new open zone design, but it’s still far and away the best game in the series to date. Consistently excellent combat, well-designed bosses, and a new form that adds even more depth and value to already meticulously put-together mechanics make Nioh 3 more than a worthy challenger to Elden Ring. It’s so good, in fact, that even after 60 hours, I've already jumped straight into New Game Plus to keep getting my fix. TheSixthAxis - Jason Coles - 9 / 10 I absolutely adore Nioh 3. It's one of the best Soulslikes I've played in ages, quite possibly since Elden Ring itself, and while it's not as large (thankfully), the way it breaks everything down and gives you endless flexibility means that it's just fun to play. There are layers upon layers of systems to master and learn about, but the fact that this game is a blast to play never goes away. Do not miss out on this. Tom's Guide - 4 / 5 Nioh 3 takes clear cues from Elden Ring, offering multiple sizeable open-world regions to explore and challenging enemy encounters aplenty. Its bosses aren't particularly memorable, but the deep combat gives you a myriad of ways to approach each confrontation. It's an impressively large action-RPG that I can't stop playing. Uagna - Matteo Bovolenta - Italian - 8.5 / 10 Nioh 3 is the most ambitious and comprehensive instalment in the series. Team Ninja has managed to evolve the formula without betraying its essence, introducing significant new features such as open fields and dual combat styles. It is a demanding, at times ruthless game that makes no concessions and requires dedication. But for those who love hardcore action RPGs, Nioh 3 represents one of the most profound, rewarding and rich experiences currently available. VG247 - 4 / 5 I find it difficult to ask more from Nioh 3. It’s a game that proudly announces its goals at the outset, and trusts the player to discover how well it’s going to nail every one them over the course of its 45+ hour runtime. It is the confident result of shaking up Nioh’s near decade-old formula that’s only outshone by Team Ninja’s steady hand in crafting it. VGC - Dave Aubrey - 4 / 5 Nioh 3 feels like the summation of Team Ninja's efforts from the last decade. Its combat is varied and tight, much like its level design, and it's a fantastic adventure. Storytelling could use some work, but the action is flawless. Video Chums - A.J. Maciejewski - 9.1 / 10 Nioh 3 is a superbly enjoyable culmination of action RPG fun and its open environments are bursting with so much rewarding content that it's hard to put it down whenever you start playing. It may be a big change of pace but I'm incredibly happy with everything it offers. 👹 WayTooManyGames - Jordan Hawes - 8.5 / 10 Nioh 3 is Team Ninja’s best game to date and definitely their best combat system so far. The addition of the Style Shift adds so much more depth to the moment-to-moment combat decisions and player agency. As well as the other additions to the combat like the dedicated jump button and tweaks to the Onmyo Box. While I do enjoy the change to the wide-linear style, over the separate mission select, there is some balancing that needs to be had there. Despite some issues with some lack luster visuals, Nioh 3 is an absolute must play and a blast. Wccftech - Francesco De Meo - 9.8 / 10 Nioh 3 is the culmination of Team NINJA’s evolution. By masterfully blending the engaging exploration of an open-field structure with a deep, dual-style combat system that bridges the gap between 'Masocore' and character-action, it has evolved into a genre of its own. While technical issues hold the game back, it is the definitive samurai fantasy and a modern masterpiece of action design. ZTGD - Augusto A. - 8 / 10 Despite the lack of innovation, Nioh’s blend of character action and soulslike still manages to entertain, with its combat being undeniably polished to near perfection. The dual styles allow for a lot of experimentation when it comes to combat, and the game does a genuinely great job balancing its more traditional level design to fit an open world. Team Ninja’s treks through history remain exciting regardless of the shape they take, but here’s hoping the DLCs will bring in fresher ideas. submitted by /u/Turbostrider27 to r/Games [link] [comments]

MH Wilds - Bad performance mystery (Solved?)
🟢 Quick update after the patch: I’ve already checked more than half of what I dug into back then, and I can say they addressed everything I reported to them directly (at least as of now, based on what I’ve had time to verify so far). And obviously, they’ve also optimized a lot of other aspects of the engine as well. On a more subjective note, and without hiding how happy I am, I can confidently say they did a damn good job overall! ------------------ ❗️ CAPCOM REPLIED - THEY’RE ALREADY LOOKING INTO IT AND IT WILL BE FIXED. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND FROM THEIR RESPONSE, THEY’LL BE ADDRESSING THE WHOLE DLC-CHECKING LOGIC: HUBS, AND POSSIBLY (??) MORE THAN THAT, IF (!!) IT AFFECTS OTHER PARTS OF THE GAME TOO. ❗️ # LATE DISCLAIMER (sadly I have to add this almost a day after posting). Guys, what I thought would be just a normal post with my personal observations kinda snowballed like crazy. A lot of websites took my words out of context and basically twisted them. And many players saw in my post only what they wanted to see. So please, read the whole thing from start to finish and dont jump to conclusions. Take a minute and actually look at what I was trying to say. And the most important part: I was talking about the FPS problem mostly in hubs. All of my testing was done in hubs, even on the video, because the original problem (for me) was hubs. This is mentioned in the post 6 (!!!) times. Yes, I mentioned in comments that I noticed slightly smoother performance in some other places too, but that still needs very serious, exhausting testing, and it will take quite a lot of time. I will keep investigating performance in general, but for now this is confirmed like 99% specifically in hubs. And yeah, in this specific case, we can joke about Capcom all day, but this wasn’t intentional from their side - it’s just a bug in the code. Treating it seriously as some deliberate move makes no sense from any marketing angle. Also, to the authors of news websites: please don;t rip my words out of context, don't quote only random parts of my post, and don't make clickbait headlines. I don't want to end up being accused of lying or promising people something I never promised (some outlets literally say FPS increased 100500x across the whole game). 👉 Once again, please read the post carefully from start to finish 👈 # DISCLAIMER END Sorry in advance for this huge wall of text, but I really want people to understand how absurd this situation is. And yes, I really hope Capcom will see it too, because this is about their "optimization" (or whatever you wanna call it). And no, this is not gonna be some bs like "install driver version 123.45 strictly at midnight" or all that "disable windows effects, increase pagefile, clean registry and read a prayer 3 times" stuff. Its not even really a "guide" for regular players, Hope you guys find this an interesting read. Also quick note: everything below mostly hits low and mid tier CPUs, but I think the effect will be quite noticeable even on more high-end ones. I will try my best to not break any rules of this subreddit so I do not get banhammered by moderation, but at some point I will have to mention a couple... hmmm... technical things so to say. I will put that part under a spoiler and keep it as clean as possible. I honestly dont even know where to start. My thoughts been mixed up for two days already and I cant even tell if I laugh because its funny, or because its actually very sad XD Anyway, first - a quick note: earlier, in 2024, I already "helped" (yeah it may sound a bit too fancy, but thats what it was) Capcom fix one FPS issue in Dragons Dogma 2. There was a bug with FPS drops inside one animation-related function, and I described it in detail on the DD2 discord server. I sent all the info, profiler data, and post-reverse-engineering "observations" (for research purposes only of course) to a Capcom technical employee. As a result, the bug got fixed in the patch dated April 10, 2024, even if they didnt mention it in the changelog for some reason. So now I came to MH Wilds and of course I started digging into optimization again - because constant FPS drops where they should not exist at all were driving me crazy. The funny part is: the problem was kinda "fixed" for me just by switching my laptop into Performance mode, where the CPU runs not at 3GHz but at 5GHz, but... man, it's a bit loudy. A few days of deeper analysis, profiling, observations, messing with the engine a bit (you know, for research purposes ofc), trying to match patterns in FPS drops behavior, and so on - and then... like lightning from a clear sky, pure accident, I found the issue in the last place where anyone would expect. If you stop reading right here, I guarantee you will never guess why the game performance so god damn bad on mid-range (and I guess on some more or less top tier) CPUs and where those frame drops come from, for example in hubs like the main camp in the plains. To be honest, I would never dig in that direction either. I would reach it as the last thing. Yesterday, when I came back to "work" once again (after small break to play another game, which will actually matter here in a funny way) and launched the MHWilds, and two things instantly stood out: first, my saves were gone, and second - after I quickly ran the intro again, FPS was perfectly fine. I restarted the game again, and again, and then like 10 more times. I deleted cache (both game and driver), deleted the config file, tested different settings from minimum to maximum, with dlss and without - everything was great. Why and how? First observation: in steam, I was logged into my friend's account (I borrowed it to try the game I mentioned above, because it cannot be shared via family sharing). I relog into my own account, launch the game and... FPS drops are back. Stable, on any settings. Okay, I delete the save, replay the exact same scenario 1:1, run through the intro/tutorial again, go to the hub - and performance is on the floor. I relog back into my friend account - and everything is fine. Nonsense. Shock. I refused to believe what I was seeing. I think some of you (maybe not many, but still) already started to guess it, right? )) My first thought was - maybe I installed HQ textures. Checked - nope. And I never picked the highest texture option anyway. I have 8GB of VRAM on my laptop, I am not insane lol :) I look closer and notice that my friend, like a literal sheikh... owns absolutely all "DLC" (I dunno, I just cant call this cosmetic stuff "DLC" - I am old-school, where DLC meant real content, not some skins-and-stickers bs). Meanwhile on my account its a clean base game, standard edition. And I think I already did enough by "thanking" Capcom with premium edition purchase on PS5. And that is when I put two and two together. Yes, you understood correctly. And if you didnt, I will say it directly - the more DLC you own, the better performance you get in the game. Why? Because Capcom focused so hard on microtransactions that they implemented an insanely crooked and aggressive DLC ownership check function. And no, it is not about protection or anticheat or whatever - it is just a DLC presence check. Now we get to the dangerous (for me, probably) part. I will hide next section behind a spoiler just in case, and I ask moderators: if needed, please message me and I will edit the post and remove the part below. Also to be clear: everything below was done strictly for research purposes. I am not recommending anyone to repeat it. So, to confirm the theory - I... no, of course I didnt spend $500 to buy all DLC just to make Capcom marketing happy. No. I quickly made a small "mod" that made the game think I have all DLC present. And no, it did not (!) unlock anything (I do not want to test my luck, and I still want to keep playing - tho honestly, already with mods, at least one that replaces the ugly in-game font that hurt me on PS5 both mentally and physically). I did not (!) get any DLC stuff in game. The only thing is that I skipped the check itself - it didnt (!) give me any DLC items or bonuses, it just prevented the game from going deeper into that heavy routine (the one it would normally run if DLC was actually installed). So please dont confuse this with any kind of "unlock" things (and yeah, I still put this part under spoiler anyway). And yes - performance went through the roof. Yes, without any CPU boost, in Balance mode. On any settings. The game literally flies. I do not recommend testing in practice what is under the spoiler, and I absolutely do not promote using mods of this type in Monster Hunter Wilds. So again, to moderation: if this is a problem, please dont delete the post instantly - just message me and I will remove that part. And that;s basically the secret behind at least ONE (maybe even of main reasons for very poor optimization). I sent all my "observations" and other "internal" details (if I can say it that way) to Capcom support - to the same person I spoke with a couple of years ago about Dragons Dogma 2. I assume he works on the engine in general, not on a specific game, but who knows how their internal structure is organized. Anyway, I hope we will see a huge performance fix soon :) Sorry again for the wall of text. Hope it was not too painful to read and maybe even kinda interesting. Upvotes and downvotes do not matter - I cant spread them on bread. I just wanted to share this interesting (in my opinion) info with the game community. TLDR: - Same machine, same settings, two different accounts (one is clean base game, the other has all DLC bought, with no HQ textures installed) - on the account with no DLC I get heavy and stable FPS drops down to like 20-25 in hubs, while on the account with all DLC bought its 80+ FPS. UPD: already tested on a 2nd pc with the same result, 3rd pc is next (all machines are totally different - not only a bit different by tier, but also different hardware vendors and combos). - All tests were done in sterile identical conditions on both accounts, where literally everything was the same: character look, name, the exact tutorial sequence, weapon, settings, time of day, character coordinates in the hub, camera angle / view point, driver/software versions (I didnt touch any of that during the experiments). And of course many iterations to avoid random false-positives and other mismatch. - More DLC = more FPS: yes, its basically literaly. I "emulated" the amount of DLC that the check thinks is present (from 0 to 200+) and the biggest jump was in the range from 0 to 100, almost like linear progress. From 100+ performance still went up, but not that crazy anymore, and I think at that point my 3070 Ti was already the main limit. - Also worth mentioning: this "emulation" test gave slightly better results than the account with actually purchased DLC. The difference is not that big, but its still there, like a few frames, and Im 99% sure its because the game likely has extra/hidden DLCs (regional or already unavailable packs, etc.), and the emulation ended up touching more (all?) of them, so the presence check basically stopped doing any extra heavy work. >>> PCGamer article link with tests. P.S. If someone from Capcom is reading this - all that effort spent on the DLC presence code, please put it into the right direction next time 😁 (do I seriously have to add a clarification a day later that this was just a sarcastic joke?) P.P.S. Guys, just to add - I did NOT mean capcom did this on purpose. No, no, and again no :) Its just a bug in the code they need to fix. P.P.P.S. Plains camp comparison screenshots and video. Recording did eat a bit of fps, but it's not a big deal. Sorry I forgot to switch the game language - for some reason I only thought about it after I'd already uploaded the video to youtube. Graphics settings in this case on my laptop are maxed out, and performance is much higher in other areas - but I'm using this specific location/spot for testing because it's the heaviest one at this point in my test save progress. P.P.P.P.S. Anticipating some concerns, I also want to publicly state this upfront: if Capcom don't fix this mess, I'll finish the "mod" - but it will be released strictly as open source (!!!), and it won't be distributed in a closed (binary), let alone encrypted form. And again, that's only a last-resort option if Capcom end up ignoring the issue. ------------------ Guys, Digital Foundry reached out to me, which was an awesome surprise. From what I understand, DF may already be on the case, so we’ll see how it goes. Thanks again, everyone for your support! ❤️ You guys are incredible! ------------------ Several mods have already popped up claiming to “fix” this issue, but I’d strongly suggest holding off on third-party mods for now. Let’s wait for Capcom’s response - especially since I sent them a lot more information than I shared publicly in my Reddit post (for obvious reasons). Also, a note to news sites (I’ll probably add this to the header of the post): please, don’t take my words out of context. I explained everything in detail - just read the post carefully and don’t accuse anyone, especially Capcom. submitted by /u/de_Tylmarande to r/MonsterHunter [link] [comments]

Game Update List for Year 2025
Stalkers! We know it took more time than you expected, but we are finally here to present the Game Update List for the rest of 2025 (Q3 and Q4), which includes updates to both S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and the Zone Kit Modifications Tool. Our main mission in the near future is upgrading the game to Unreal Engine 5.5.4. This will bring new features and tools to make the Zone an even better place, but more importantly — bringing the latest Unreal Engine 5 optimizations will lead to better stability and performance. But this could shake up the timing of other updates. We’re taking this risk — like true stalkers would — and will do our best to hit our 2025 goals. Stick with us on this journey and keep an eye out for upcoming news, including bigger and exciting ones. Yep, that news, too! Thanks for your continued feedback and support. Without your help, this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you! GSC Game World submitted by /u/mol1t to r/stalker [link] [comments]

Unpopular opinion: People who throw stratagems down before getting on the extraction shuttle are the beating heart and lifeblood of this game.
Look, I get it. You are like level 85 and just want to get the last few samples to finally get your last ship upgrade and the guy with all the samples just dematerialized himself when he threw down a 500kg on extraction and then got caught in the door, taking all of the super samples with him. But listen, that probably made that fucking dipshit's day. This game isn't about the lvl 50+ champions who exclusively play on D10 bots and complain in the discord when the game isn't kicking them in the balls enough. It's about the lvl 7 side characters who get in a 1v1 with a hulk scorcher and lose because they are on a PS5 and can't aim their railgun. These people keep the game alive. They just got home from work, put the kids to bed, slammed three miller lights and then spent $10 of their hard earned cash on the new warbond, and yeah, maybe a few experienced players are going to get caught in the blast of the portable hellbomb that they just figured out how to activate at extraction, but fuck it man, without new players like that, what do we have? A bunch of adderall fueled railgun junkies who land every shot and complete the mission without a hitch? That's boring. To all of the new players out there who want to see a cool explosion when the pelican takes off, I say this: Let your freak flag fly. Don't let the level 110 lifer get you down, hit your bong after work and incinerate the entire team when you deatomize the pelican landing pad with a 500kg. submitted by /u/lurkerlarry42069 to r/Helldivers [link] [comments]

🛠️ PATCH 01.000.402 ⚙️
🌍Overview For this patch, we have made improvements and changes to the following areas: Quality of life improvements Crash fixes General bug fixes 🔧Fixes Crashes Fixed various crashes that occur when changing settings. Fixed crash or corrupted font texture when changing languages. Fixed a crash that occurs after exiting a mission. Fixed a crash that occurs when opening the social menu with more than 100 friends. As a result we have also limited the friends list visibility to 100. You will remain friends with anyone over 100, but you may not be able to see them if they are offline. Fixed crash social menu crash related to high number of blocked players and/or friend requests. Fixed a crash when minimizing after changing fullscreen mode. Fixed rare crash which could occur when picking up equipment. Fixed a crash when a client interacts with a terminal in a waiting state after host migration. Fixed a crash related to minefields. Misc Fixes Fixed issues with dodge and prone. Fixed not being able to stand up while wielding the ballistic shield. Fixed the Recoilless reload speed. Fixed issue where users couldn't write a description on console when reporting a player. Fixes vehicle preview not despawning in Warbonds when quickly scrolling through the catalog. Fixed Spear not targeting several entities (spawners, compound objects, etc). Sentries now have a higher destruction value so most explosions do not instantly destroy them regardless of the damage amount. Fixed bug where operation progress would be lost when kicked due to inactivity. The "Remove Friend" and "Block Player" buttons are now hold-to-confirm instead of a single click. Fixed bug where dying would try to enter ADS. Fixed a soft lock if you receive an interact emote while holding a grenade. Fixed projectile to crosshair inaccuracies in ADS when the player is in different stances Fixed broken player model in career tab when on someone else's ship. Adjudicator: fixed incorrect recoil values. Fixed armory terminals losing their functionality if the last client player who interacted with them leaves the host's ship. Fixed missing localization for flying patrols operation modifiers. Fixed issue where throwing knives could be left floating in the air. Support for non-latin fonts in the game's install folder path. Vehicle skins are now applied to all vehicle variations when equipping directly from Warbonds. Fixed flag objectives not properly tracking a Helldiver’s position while on a Combat Walker. Fixed missing description for the PH-202 Twigsnapper helmet. Fixed the issue where the shuttle would clip through Bile Titans and terrain during landing sequences. Improved performance on PS5 when CPU bound. Fixes FX remaining when destroying Spore Spewer. Ensure stim vfx remains on screen for the entire duration of the stim effect when med-kit bonus is present. Fix for emote receiver players being able to use their weapons during emote animation Hellbombs now get called down facing the player, rather than away from the player. 🧠Known Issues These are issues that were either introduced by this patch and are being worked on, or are from a previous version and have not yet been fixed. Sending friend requests via friend code in game currently does not work. Players may be unable to be joined or invited to the game. Players added to the 'Recent Players' list will appear in the middle of the list. Players may experience delays in Medals and Super Credits payouts. Available Operations are generated again after reconnecting after getting AFK kicked. Enemies that bleed out do not progress Personal Orders and Eradicate missions. Arc weapons sometimes behave inconsistently and sometimes misfire. Most weapons shoot below the crosshair when aiming down the sights. Plasma Punisher is unable to shoot out of the shield generators. Stratagem beam might attach itself to an enemy but it will deploy to its original location. "Hand Carts" ship module does not reduce Shield Generator Pack's cooldown. Bile Titan sometimes does not take damage to the head. Charger’s butt does not take damage from explosions. Players may become stuck in the Loadout when joining a game in progress. Reinforcement may not be available for players who join a game in progress. Planet liberation reaches 100% at the end of every Defend mission. "Raise Flag of Super Earth" objective does not show a progress bar. Mission count in the Career tab is being reset to zero after every game restart. Some weapons’ descriptions are out-of-date and don’t reflect their current design. [EDIT 1] From what I can gather from Discord, Sup. Packing Meth. isn't fixed but the devs are aware of it. Idk why it didnt make it on the known issues list. [EDIT 2] Some extra info on a few big issues not fixed by this patch. https://preview.redd.it/lszegk9pvb7d1.png?width=949&format=png&auto=webp&s=95a44688ed3183869fd566d7b70466043e42be76 ......................... Let's talk about Patrols: An In Depth Analysis of Patrol Spawning Mechanics
UPDATE: We have published a Part 2 which focuses on "Where" patrols will spawn and goes over how you prevent them from spawning at all. Part 3 covers changes to the system as of Patch 1.001.104 We have seen a lot of confusion and frustration in the community regarding what feels like random or unfair enemy spawning behavior. We set out to analyze and document how the system works and what follows is our findings. Fair warning, this is a lengthy post as the system is quite complicated. While we have some critiques of the current system, this post is designed to simply document the mechanics. 3/19 Update: Summary video put together by one of our testers (u/LexLocatelli) 3/20 Update: Retested and confirmed behavior on patch 1.000.103 4/2 Update: Retested and confirmed behavior on patch 1.000.200, no changes occurred DISCLAIMER: All of this is just working theory and our personal conceptualization of the underlying system. It is based entirely on a rigorous process of observed behavior in the game and then testing hypothesis under controlled conditions. It is not the result of any sort of data mining. Our testing was performed on version 1.000.101 and then confirmed on the latest patch 1.000.103. We do not have data regarding these mechanics prior to patch 1.000.101 (Balance Patch) and all of this information is of course subject to change with future patches. All tests were performed on PC and we have no results or information regarding PS5 or PC to PS5 crossplay. What are the different types of enemy spawns in the world? We class enemies into four different types based on how they are added into the game world Static spawns. These are the enemies placed around Points of Interest, enemy Outposts, and Objectives (both Primary and Sub) Reinforcement spawns. These are the enemies that are in Dropships or come out of Bug Breaches Fabricator/Nest spawns. These are created from Fabricators/Nests and unless aggro'd will generally just stand near their parent. Patrols What is a Patrol? A patrol is a group of enemies that appear somewhere on the map at set intervals and then walk towards another point on the map. Their path will always have them cross very close or even directly on top of a Player's position at the moment the patrol is spawned. These enemies simply appear out of thin air. If you look at a patrol and "Mark" it, your character will actually say, "Enemy Patrol". They are the only enemies on the map that will move around without an external influence. Patrols will despawn if any unit in the Patrol gets 175 meters or more away from the nearest player AND are not actively engaged in combat. NOTE: There is a current bug specific to Automatons where Small (Troopers/Raiders) bots will spawn in and then move towards the exact center of the map and then stand there and never despawn. This is not a patrol and we just want to call them out specifically as a bug. What are Spawn Points and Tick Rate? Our working theory for how the game determines when to spawn a patrol is the following. The server has a "Tick Rate" which is essentially the frequency at which the server updates the Game's State. For sake of simplicity, we'll just assume that the server has a "Tick" every 1 second although the real Tick Rate is almost certainly much faster. Every "Tick" generates an amount of "Spawn Points" which gets put into a bucket. When this bucket reaches a threshold value, a patrol is spawned and the bucket gets emptied. The amount of Spawn Points generated per Tick and/or the Threshold required to spawn a patrol is affected by various factors which we will detail further down. Establishing our Baseline In order to do controlled tests against a single variable, we first need to establish a "Baseline" spawn rate in the absence of any other conditions or activities. We did this by doing the following: Have the "Nuclear Radar" Ship Module Equip an armor with the "Scout" perk Equip the UAV Booster We went into a mission at a particular difficulty while Solo Located a spot on the map that was not near any objectives, subobjectives or enemy outposts Simply wait while monitoring the map to see when a Patrol is detected and then timing how long it takes for the next Patrol to appear Repeat step 3 multiple times and then establish an average from the timings we took Once a "Solo" baseline was established we repeated this process for 2 players and 3 players (we didn't have a 4th available for testing) at that same difficulty This process was then repeated at different difficulty levels and on both War Fronts (Automatons/Terminids) The following table details the Baselines (in seconds) for a Solo player. Difficulty War Front Baseline War Front Baseline 1 Automaton 192 Terminid Unable due to TCS missions 2 Automaton 255 Terminid Unable due to TCS missions 3 Automaton 255 Terminid 174 4 Automaton 245 Terminid 174 5 Automaton 215 Terminid 155 6 Automaton 200 Terminid 136 7 Automaton 180 Terminid 125 8 Automaton 160 Terminid 113 9 Automaton 110 Terminid 99 Additional players modify these baselines in the following way 2 Players - Multiply the Baseline by 0.8333 3 Players - Multiply the Baseline by 0.75 Unfortunately we did not have a 4th player available for testing so cannot comment on the modifier for 4 players. Due to the ease of controlling the conditions, we did most of our testing in Level 4 Automaton missions but we have confirmed that all the behaviors function consistently regardless of Difficulty, Number of Players or War Front. What things affect the Spawn Point generation or Threshold required to spawn a Patrol? The following activities either increase the Spawn Point Generation or decrease the Threshold, each activity has nuance to it and will be covered in detail in its own section. The end result of almost all of this is that spawns occur MORE frequently than the Baseline. We have not identified ANY action that slows the Spawn Point generation beyond it's "Baseline" with 1 exception which is highly situational and that is having a Bot Drop/Breach very close to the time you would have a patrol spawn. Players being in proximity of Primary Objectives, Secondary Objectives, Enemy Outposts and the Extraction point Clearing out enemy Outposts (Fabricators/Nests) Completing the Primary Objective Player Death These things can stack in a multiplicative fashion and these interactions will be detailed in their own section near the bottom. The following factors affect the Threshold Mission difficulty. Harder missions have lower Threshold Number of players in the match. Each additional player reduces the Threshold Automatons versus Terminid. Automatons have a higher Threshold than Terminids meaning Terminids spawn patrols more frequently The following have NO effect Time spent in mission Engaging in combat Stratagem usage Breaches/Bot Drops (with one exception that is detailed further down) Planet Mission Type. All of this data only applies to "Regular" (ICBM, Sabotage Supplies, Purge Hatcheries, etc) missions. We have done no testing against Eradication, Blitz or Civilian Evacuation missions. These mission types are almost impossible to get clean data and aren't really relevant to this anyways. Being in proximity of Points of Interest Using Terminals or interacting with Objective elements such as turning the radar dish or loading artillery shells Completion of Secondary Objectives (with a caveat that is explained further down) What are Areas of Influence and Heat Generation? We need to explain a concept that we've termed "Area of Influence". Certain elements in the world create an Area of Influence around them. We have identified the following elements that have this effect and each element has some nuance which will be covered later: Primary Objectives (IE The ICBM Silo itself) Primary Subobjectives (IE ICBM Launch Codes or Reactivate Power Generator) Secondary Objectives - Stratagem Jammers, Crashed Datapods, Illegal Broadcast Towers, etc Enemy Outposts (Automaton Outposts/Terminid Nests). Light Outposts do NOT have an Area of Influence. Only Medium and Heavy do. Extraction Point Being within an Area of Influence creates "Heat" and the effect of this Heat is to increase the amount of Spawn Points generated per Tick which means more frequent Patrols. The center of the Area of Influence is the Element's icon on the map. The amount of Heat generated scales based on a Player's distance from that center. Within 50 meters, Heat Generation is at its maximum value and then it has a "Falloff" that extends out to 150 meters and the strength of the Heat Generation decreases by 1% per 1 meter. For example, if you are 100 meters from the Icon, the Heat Generation will be at 50% strength. At 75 meters, it's at 75% strength. At 125 meters, it's at 25% strength. Here's an infographic demonstrating the concept The vast majority of things that generate Heat have a maximum effect that increases spawn rates by 50%. There are some situations that increase it another 10% such as certain Secondary Objectives (Detector Tower or Stratagem Jammer for example) or Heavy Outposts. Areas of Influence do not stack. If you are within overlapping Areas of Influence, only the one with the most Heat Generation applies. The amount of Heat is calculated every Tick so as you move closer/further from an element producing Heat, the amount of Spawn Points generated per Tick is constantly changing. For example, using our Baseline of 240 seconds, if you spotted a freshly spawned Patrol while outside any area of Influence and then moved towards the center of an Area of Influence and then stayed there, your next Patrol would spawn between 158 and 240 seconds. If you then stayed within the full strength Area of Influence, you should expect a Patrol after 158 seconds. Finally, if you either left the Area of Influence or stopped its generation, you would again expect the next Patrol between 158 and 240 seconds. Heat Generation can be stopped but the conditions under which this occurs is specific to each of the different types of things that are generating it and will be detailed in a separate section. What are the effects of clearing out Enemy Outposts? Enemy Outposts are a distinct type of map element that comes in Light, Medium and Heavy variants. The number of Outposts varies from mission to mission at the same difficulty. Destroying these Outposts will result in a popup message indicating "AREA SECURED" and provide the player with Requisition Slips and Experience. Only Medium and Heavy Outposts produce an Area of Influence and therefore Heat. Light Outposts have no effect or one that is so small that it is negligible. Destroying too many Outposts causes a reduction in the Threshold required to spawn patrols. You might be thinking, "Destroying a lot of Outposts means MORE enemies?" The only accurate answer is "Sort of" because the destruction of an Enemy Outpost also removes its Area of Influence from the world. This means that the global spawn rate might go up but being in those areas of the map no longer increases your Heat. Specifics and Numbers on this topic Destroying ALL outposts on the map results in the Threshold being multiplied by 0.85. This means patrols spawn ~17.5% faster. Using our Baseline of 240 seconds per patrol, it would become 204 seconds. You can safely destroy 50% of the Outposts with no impact. The type (Light, Medium, Heavy) of Outpost does not matter. Once you cross 50%, the strength of the impact scales in a linear fashion. This Threshold reduction persist for the remainder of the mission For example, if you spawn into a map with 8 Outposts, you can safely destroy 4 of these with no consequences. When you destroy the 5th outpost, the strength of the Threshold reduction is at 25% or ~4% faster patrols. When you destroy the 6th Outpost, it goes up to 50% strength or ~8% faster patrols. What are the effects of completing the Primary Objective? Completion of the Primary Objective has by far the biggest impact on the frequency of Enemy Patrol spawns. As soon as you complete the Primary Objective, the Threshold gets multiplied by 0.275 meaning you are receiving Patrols almost 4 times as often. Using our Baseline value of 240 seconds, this gets reduced all the way to 66 seconds. What is the effect of being near Objectives? As discussed above, certain elements on the map produce an "Area of Influence" and being inside this generates "Heat" that quickens the spawn rate. The way Primary (Both main and Subobjectives) and Secondary objectives generate their Area of Influence is kind of complicated. If a location has static spawns attached to it and the Objective is in an "Active" state meaning it hasn't been completed, it will generate Heat as long both these conditions are true: The static spawns are still alive The objective is still active If either condition isn't met, no Area of Influence exists. The static spawns that are relevant to this are only the ones in the "Main" area for the location and do not include the spawns in outlying structures. See these Infographics as an example: Example 1 Example 2 If a location does NOT have static spawns attached to it (for example Crashed Datapod or SEAF Artillery), the location generates an Area of Influence until the objective is completed. However, there exists an exception to these rules and it is best illustrated by the behavior of Detector Towers and Stratagem Jammers (along with other Secondary Objectives). For Detector Towers and Stratagem Jammers, the main object(s) generating the Area of Influence are the Fabricators in these locations. Once the Fabricator is destroyed most of the Heat generation stops. However, the Detector Tower/Jammer itself ALSO generates an Area of Influence with a small Heat coefficient. While the Fabricators create Heat that increases the Spawn rate by 50%, the Objective structure itself does so with a 10% increase. These effects combine multiplicatively. Essentially, if you're going to attack these objectives, the Fabricators should be your first target. What is the effect of the Extraction Point? The Extraction Point is kind of a special location in that it generates an Area of Influence at all times and there is no way to remove it. Even if you drop on the extraction at the start of the match and have done nothing else, you are being affected by its Area of Influence. Actually calling in Pelican-1 has no effect, the increased spawn rate is simply due to being near the Extraction Point. The Extraction Point generates Heat that results in a 50% increase in spawn rate. What happens when players split up? We need to introduce the concept of a "Player Group". A Player Group can be defined as any set of players that are 75 meters or closer to at least one other player. A player by themselves is still considered a "Player Group", just with one member. Each Player Group maintains their own Spawn Point bucket and when that Player Group's bucket is filled, it will spawn a Patrol for that Player Group. For example, if 4 players were all over 75 meters away from any other player, you have essentially quadrupled the spawn rate because every Player Group is spawning their own separate Patrol. This infographic helps demonstrate Each Player Group can be affected by Areas of Influence independently. One Player Group being in an Area of Influence does not increase the Heat for any other Player Group. The modifiers for Outpost Destruction and Primary Objective completion are global and affect all Player Groups. For example, let's consider a match with 2 players in it. If these players split up and Player 1 entered an Area of Influence but Player 2 did not, Player 1's Spawn Point bucket would increase at a faster rate than Player 2's. The behavior of what happens when players split and rejoin repeatedly is very difficult to test and get clean results for. We are also unsure of the importance (if any) of Host vs Client. Here is a video demonstrating this behavior Where do Patrols spawn? Please see our follow up post about this topic as it is quite involved. What about the Unit Composition of Patrols? Patrols have different "Templates" that they simply randomly choose from when created. The set of Templates available to choose from is determined at mission start and we call this the Spawn Set. For example, you could have a mission with the following Templates available: 3 Berserkers + 5 Small Bots 2 Scout Striders + 4 Small Bots 11 Small Bots Every Patrol that spawns in the mission will select one of these at random and there is nothing that changes them mid-mission. Patrol Composition IS affected by the number of players getting stronger/more units with more players but there are no actions a player can perform that alters the Templates. What are the effects of Player Death? A player dying in and by itself appears to have no effect but spending a Reinforcement Point adds a random amount of Spawn Points to the current pool. We tested this extensively by spotting a freshly spawned patrol, immediately killing someone and then reinforcing them and timing how long it took for the next patrol to appear. There was no discernable pattern in our results. Sometimes it would result in a drastic reduction in time (upwards of 6x faster) and sometimes it seemed to have almost no effect at all. Our main takeaway here is that Reinforcing dead players can drastically speed up the next Patrol Spawn. We have no way to identify if spending more reinforcement points within a single spawn cycle has any effect given the random nature of it. We never observed the next spawn being slower than expected, it was either faster or on time. What are the effects of Bot Drops/Breaches? It appears that triggering a Bot Drop/Breach can introduce a short delay before the spawning of the next patrol. This delay only occurs if you're close to the next patrol spawning. Specifics and Examples The longest amount of delay that can occur is ~1/6th of the Baseline value and this only occurs if you are in the last 5/6th of the current spawn cycle. For example, if I engaged a freshly spawned Patrol and this patrol called for reinforcements, the next Patrol will spawn exactly on time as the call happened too early in the spawn cycle. Using our Baseline of 240 seconds per Patrol, if I engaged some units that call for reinforcements 195 seconds into the current spawn cycle (or 81.25%), it will have no effect on the timing of the current Patrol cycle. However, if I were to trigger a reinforcement call at 235 seconds, the current spawn cycle will get delayed by ~40 seconds. The timing of the next cycle is not affected and will arrive after 240 seconds barring any other factors. What is the impact of Time? Verifying whether or not Time in and by itself had an impact on Spawn Rates was the first thing we did as we would need to account for it going forward. As we discovered each new mechanic, we then retested that mechanic against Time to see if it was affected. We discovered that Time has no impact on anything related to Patrols. Does it impact the Baseline? No Does it impact Heat generation or Areas of Influence? No Does it change the impact of completing the Primary Objective? No Does it alter the intensity or composition of Patrols? Not that we can tell but this one is difficult to lock down due to Patrol composition being randomized. This video shows a Baseline Test and also demonstrates that Time has no impact How do these all systems interact and combine with each other? The following factors combine in a multiplicative fashion: Primary Objective Completion Area of Influence Heat Outpost Destruction's effect Some examples: If a solo player was in a Level 4 Automaton Mission, they have a Baseline time of 240 seconds. If they destroy all the Enemy Outposts, their baseline time shifts down to 204 seconds. If they then complete the Primary Objective, their baseline time shifts down to 56 seconds. If they then enter an Area of Influence at full strength (such as Extraction), they will receive a patrol every 37 seconds. If a Duo was in a Level 4 Automaton Mission, they have a Baseline time of 200 seconds. They don't destroy over 50% of the enemy Outposts so there is no effect to their time from Outposts. If they complete the Primary Objective their baseline time shifts down to 55 seconds. If they then enter an Area of Influence at full strength (such as Extraction), they will receive a patrol every 36 seconds. If these players also destroyed 75% of the Outposts and were at Extraction, they will receive a patrol every 33 seconds. If a solo player was in a Level 9 Automaton Mission, they have a Baseline time of 110 seconds. If they destroy all the Enemy Outposts, their baseline time shifts down to 93.5 seconds. If they then complete the Primary Objective, their baseline time shifts down to 25 seconds. If they then enter an Area of Influence at full strength (such as Extraction), they will receive a patrol every 17 seconds. When we consider that these Patrol Spawns can be duplicated if Players are split into separate Player Groups, you can easily have an effective spawning speed that is less than 10 seconds. When we also consider that even a single death can drastically shorten the time to the next patrol, it's easy to see how players get stuck in a "Death Spiral". What is the impact of the "Localization Confusion" Booster? As of 3/14/24, the Localization Confusion Booster has no effect on the Baseline times or any of the mechanics described. It appears to not have any effect on Patrols whatsoever. Localization Confusion increases the time between calls for Reinforcements (Bot Drops/Breaches). It does not delay the time for a particular enemy to call, it just lengthens the time before another call can occur. Rough Testing on this looks to be a ~10% increase but getting a clean stable baseline on this is difficult due to relying on AI behavior. Final note regarding Population Cap It is difficult to determine hard numbers on this but there does exist a global "Population Cap" that will prevent the spawning of additional Patrols. If too many enemy units are active in the world, no patrols will be created until some enemies are killed or despawned. Show me the evidence We understand that we're making some major claims about the game mechanics here so we made a video demonstrating the concepts in action. Testing the various factors that alter the spawn rate Closing We hope that this is informative to players and we will try and answer any additional questions you may have.
