living in a college dorm with a fridge/freezer & a microwave, advice for meals?
I am 20F, 5'11 and about 140lb rn, trying to lose my last few lbs before I focus on maintenance. However, this last stretch has been the hardest and I need to properly focus on my eating habits (which I also hope to develop so maintenance is easier for me lol..) Now, here are my issues: I am in college (with a fridge/freezer and microwave). So no way to cook crazy fancy foods & also time is generally limited I am vegetarian I tend to emotionally overeat when stressed, so I'm always hesitant about meal prepping bc of that (lol) What should I do in this situation? What foods would even be good (ex. I really like the rice/meat/veggie layout a lot of fitness influencers have but im vegetarian since birth so cant really do that..)? Should I look into meal plan services or are those unnecessary? Thank you! submitted by /u/Leather-Pass8172 to r/WeightLossAdvice [link] [comments]

Fridge/Freezer and Microwave for dorm
one of my roommates just moved out of our room, and because she was the one who brought fridge/freezer and microwave, my roommate and I are trying to get a new fridge/freezer and microwave. But they are all expensive and we don't even have car to bring it to school from the shop, which means it is more expensive with the shipping fee. Is there any good way we can get those? (since I have 5 day unlimited meal plan, I used to eat frozen food every weekend. And now I have almost nothing to eat ;-;) Thank you in advance! submitted by /u/Dear-Office5293 to r/UCSC [link] [comments]

Discover if WANAI WA-142-1119 Fridge with Freezer Fits Your Needs Review
The WANAI WA-142-1119 Black Fridge was brought into my life at the perfect time. Balancing a compact lifestyle and wanting appliances that don’t feel like compromises is tricky; this sleek 5.0 Cu.Ft refrigerator seemed like the answer. It’s designed for dorm rooms, offices, apartments, and homes where space and usefulness go hand in hand. My experience with it had its ups and downs, but let me break it all down for you. Design and Build Quality This fridge caught my eye immediately with its black stainless-steel finish. It feels modern, and honestly, it blended perfectly into my studio apartment without sticking out like an ugly appliance. Standing at about 47.64 inches, its height conveniently fit into the kitchen’s corner beside my countertop. The dual-door design was intriguing—and practical! The dedicated freezer compartment is like the cherry on top. With 1.8 Cu.Ft. nestled at the top for frozen foods and the 3.2 Cu.Ft. refrigerator below for drinks, veggies, and everything else, it’s a pretty efficient configuration. While the glass shelves inside are sturdy, they feel a tad thin when I overloaded my groceries once. Usable? Definitely. Heavy-duty? Maybe not so much, but it does the trick. Good Points - Compact yet spacious 5.0 Cu.Ft design, perfect for small spaces. - Dual-door design separates frozen items from fresh ones nicely. - LED lighting inside makes even the late-night snack-hunt easy. Check WANAI WA-142-1119 Black Fridge price on Amazon. Performance and Features Seven adjustable temperature settings were surprisingly versatile. I experimented with different temperatures, and it managed to keep my ice cream firm without turning lettuce into a frosty nightmare. It ranges between -0.4°F to 50°F; pretty useful when storing diverse items. The crisper drawer deserves legit applause—it holds humidity like a pro, and my veggies lived a longer, fresher life than expected. That said, the defrost system is manual, which meant I spent a good 15 minutes last weekend scraping off a tiny glacier forming inside. Energy Efficiency and Operation If you were hoping for noiseless operation, this fridge mostly delivers. As someone hypersensitive to buzzing sounds (thanks, studio living), I found it pretty quiet. WANAI claims energy efficiency, and while I have no way of calculating exact savings on my electricity bill yet, it doesn’t seem like a power guzzler. The 204 kWh annual energy consumption matches other energy-efficient models. However, the freezer tends to hog a little more attention, requiring some fine-tuning with the temp dial. Negatives - Manual defrost feels like it belongs in another century. - The freezer space, though useful, isn’t as big as I had hoped for. - Glass shelves can feel fragile under too much weight. Challengers Compared to other compact refrigerators in the market—like the Black+Decker Compact Refrigerator or the Midea WHD-113FSS1—the WANAI offers similar features but falls slightly short in some areas. For instance, both competitors also offer dual-section designs, but Midea integrates an automatic defrost system, saving time and hassle. Similarly, Black+Decker’s build feels marginally sturdier when stress-tested. However, WANAI wins for incorporating adjustable shelves and maintaining a stylish design within a smaller form factor. Those elements give it a distinctive edge for people valuing aesthetics alongside functionality. Cost-Effectiveness It manages a decent price-to-quality ratio. For its efficient use of space combined with the practical two-door design and crisper optimization, it does feel like a solid investment. However, the lack of some modern conveniences like automatic defrost slightly dampens the overall value proposition. Still, for office breakrooms or temporary setups, this fridge serves as an excellent option. In a hurry? Example of why I hate the “If you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford to eat out” argument
This was over 20 years ago, but I’ll never forget how awful I felt, both in the moment and trying to share the situation with others afterwards. I feel like this might be a safe place to share. My friends and I were freshmen in college. A few rules: - Freshmen were required to live in the dorms on campus. - Freshmen were not allowed to have cars on campus. - Everyone living on campus was required to have a meal plan. There were options based on what you could afford, but standard was 12 meals per week in the dining hall (that’s less than 2 meals a day average). The dining hall was all you could eat, but full meals were only served at typical meal times, and they closed at 7:30pm. If you couldn’t make those times for any reason, sucks to be you. One night, me and 5 other friends were starving while studying. All dining halls were closed. There were no groceries in walking distance and we didn’t have a car. Four people had mini-fridges in their dorms because they lived on the “nice” side of campus, but me and one other dude lived in the old section. I had a tiny cube fridge with no freezer than my dad had used in his dorm in the early 70’s, that we fixed up so I had something, but other dude had nothing. No stocking up on food. And no kitchens for cooking regardless. We dug in every desk drawer and wallet and scraped together just under $8. We ordered a pizza from a popular pizza place that had a large cheese pizza for $6.99 We had to do delivery because again… no fucking car. We gave the delivery guy everything we had. Yes, the tip was probably like 20 cents after tax (thankfully no delivery fee), but it was literally all we could do. He absolutely read us the riot act, insulting us for wasting his time and told us to never order pizza again if we couldn’t afford to tip. All because 6 of us wanted to split a large cheese pizza. The two biggest guys got 2 pieces each, the other four of us got 1. I’ve told this story to a couple people over the years, but both times I was told “if you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford to eat out”. I’ve always hated that I was made to feel so small when I was just hungry and there weren’t any other options. (And yes, I’ve worked as a waitress. I was grateful for every tip I got, even though my wage was 2.13 and tips averaged less than 15% at the dive I worked at) Today I’m decently well off and I do tip a modest 15-18% (at sit down restaurants ONLY, or for exceptional service), but I get so angry at the entitled attitude regarding tipping. And fuck anyone who tries to say “if you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford to eat.” submitted by /u/Anieya to r/EndTipping [link] [comments]

I think my roommate is a cannibal.
For context, I met Thomas when we were randomly assigned to be roommates our freshman year of college. Nothing seemed to be off with him back then - yeah, he was out a lot and came back late at night, but I always figured he was just having fun with friends. It’s not like I wasn’t doing the same. We had four semesters of living on-campus. Two years. In that time, he never struck me as particularly eccentric. Maybe a few little things, like how he never put any food in our minifridge, but nothing that warranted genuine concern. It wasn’t until we moved into an apartment that things started to become strange. I moved in about a week after he did, a few days before classes were going to start. I was supposed to come in at the same time, but my aunt died and I needed to help my dad with some aftermath there. It would’ve kept me longer had the start of the semester not snuck up - but that’s beside the point. We viewed the apartment together initially, and it was a pretty nice, cozy place. Not exactly modern, but sure as hell cheap enough to make it worth it without said price being shady. Neither of us were bothered. But when I was finally able to move in, the place looked worse for the wear, somehow. Significant enough that I noticed immediately. The paint in some places had started chipping severely, something Thomas didn’t even react to when I pointed out. The floors were mostly fine, but a few of the boards creaked particularly loud, which I hadn’t noticed at our viewing. Again, enough that it bothered me, and still not enough for Thomas to give a damn about it. Then there was the fact that the lock to the remaining bedroom, mine, was broken. A problem not very easily fixable on a college budget. I asked Thomas about that one, making sure he actually answered me, but he just kind of shrugged it off and told me he hadn’t noticed it. But, still. Okay. Whatever. Weird, but probably not a big deal besides losing our security deposit. It didn’t matter. The semester started, and the weeks progressed. And that was when I started noticing things about Thomas. Living in an apartment instead of a dorm was the most distant he’d ever been. It’s not like he was ever super talkative, but now it seemed like he’d only glance my way and move on - unwilling to do more. In fact, he only really talked to me if it was to snap at me about being clean, or quiet. With the former, he was only a little bit of a clean freak back in our dorm. Incessant about his own side, but he only got really pressed about it if any of my mess seeped into his. Here and now, though, it really shined through how bad it was. He never touched my room, or anything, but the rest of the apartment had to be spotless or he’d be pissed. A few times more recently, he’s thrown out my stuff because I “hadn’t touched it in too long” whatever that means. Nothing devastating, but one of those things was a spare charger I had to dig out of the trash and then get sprayed down with Febreze for. Nothing short of annoying, is what I’m getting at here. Why he suddenly became really anal about it was anyone’s guess at that point. As for the being quiet part, that was an entirely new issue. Thomas never gave a damn if I was loud while playing a game before, but suddenly now it was worth slamming my door open without knocking over. I asked him to maybe be a little more polite about the issue when it came up, but I was again sort of just brushed off. Still, it rubbed me the wrong way how suddenly angry he was getting about the issue. Yes, it was my fault, and I got better about it, but what the hell was with the switch-up? Yet, I still just wrote it off. Maybe he had some mental or emotional stuff going on he didn’t want to talk about. I could be patient with him. Sure. But it got worse. A roommate who clearly labels what food is his in the fridge is nothing to be mad about. Still, a few weeks into the year, I did a deep-clean of the refrigerator - one that, to be fair, I had meant to do as soon as I moved in. But, it was too late for that, and now I had to take everything out to scrub it down. Only a few things were his, most of them in the freezer. I took them out, setting them aside to clean it up quickly so nothing went bad. Probably no reason to worry about that, but whatever. Once I was done, I was checking over everything as I put it back in when I noticed something with his name on it had an especially pungent smell. It was awful enough that it made my nose instinctively wrinkle up. I put it back down, hastily shoving everything else back into the fridge before turning to it. Nothing really weird, just a piece of meat in tight saran wrap that looked to be still a little bloody. Frowning, I started unwrapping it to make sure Thomas hadn’t put rotten meat in the freezer. The odor only got more foul as I did. It was a smell difficult to describe; though it was what I was worried about, it didn’t smell like rotting meat. It just smelled like death. Before I actually unwrapped the whole thing - it had a LOT of layers, something I only questioned after the fact - Thomas came home and stopped dead in the doorway. “Why are you touching my shit?” He stormed over after a second, snatching the meat off the table and immediately starting to re-wrap it. His hands were shaking. “It smells disgusting, man,” I told him, stepping back a little. “I wanted to check it wasn’t rotten.” “It’s not. I’m on a diet,” He snapped. “Don’t take my food.” “I wasn’t taking it!” I hissed back. “Don’t touch it!” Thomas stuffed the meat back into the freezer at that, then swiftly retreated to his room - barely opening the door and sliding through. Leaving me to scrub my hands of that horrible stench. It was then that I really got suspicious of Thomas. The other weird things layered onto that incident that made me start observing him closer. I wasn’t trying to stalk my roommate by any means, but looking past the surface made me notice some more things. How half the creaking boards were in front of his room, how he always slipped into his room like he was hiding something in there, that most of his labeled food had that same disgusting odor of death when I checked. Well, sniff tested them. After the first time I was a little scared to unwrap another one. Maybe it was stupid, but I’d read online somewhere that a reason for creaking floorboards could be that they had recently been lifted up. So another little investigation started, this one intentional. When Thomas left for class I started checking under the boards - and it wasn’t long before I turned up something. A handsaw. Off-putting thing to be hidden under my feet, to say the least. It looked pretty well-worn. Clean, but used. Aside from the saw, lifting the board let me see a mysterious reddish brown blotch stained into the underside of it. That was enough for me to put the board back and stop thinking about it for now. At least, until I could come up with a plan. I had a film major buddy, and I managed to convince him to let me use an old video camera of his for science. I hid it in a plant, and aimed it at the door to Thomas’s bedroom at leg level. Set up to stay at said friend’s for the night, and then let it play out. In hindsight, a mediocre video camera was a really shitty pick for this, but it did the job enough. I didn’t get a live feed or anything, and I was left to wallow in anxiety the whole night, but when I got back while Thomas was out the next day I could dig the camera out and watch what it showed me. After charging it, anyway. It caught eight hours of footage before dying. Most of it was nothing, which I sped through until Thomas was suddenly pulling up the floorboard. I jumped back and let the video play. Thomas walked into frame, emotionlessly kneeling down and yanking the floorboard up. Pulling the handsaw out and putting it down again. He walked into his room, seemingly stowing it away, then left again for another hour or so. When he came back, there was a woman our age with him. They were talking quietly enough that the video camera didn’t pick up the words, but I could make a guess what it was about. They disappeared into his bedroom, the lock clicking loudly. It remained quiet for another moment, before the worst, most horribly unsurprising sound met my ears. A woman’s scream being cut short. I could barely watch the next two hours of footage, all that remained before the camera died. But I did. I sat there in horror watching Thomas’s legs walk between his bedroom, the kitchen, and the door over and over again. Bringing things. Wrapping up pieces of meat. At one point near the end, stopping to sit at the table and eat something. I could only guess what. I think typing this out has helped me process it a little, but Thomas is going to be home from his class soon. I’m kind of terrified to leave the room when he’s here. I’m worried he knows that I’ve got him figured out, or at least under enough suspicion to warrant police involvement. I can’t confront him. That’s a horrible idea. But I think I hear his keys jingling, so I’m going to have to pass him if I want to go to the cops. Wish me luck. WIBTA If I Told My Landlord About My Roommate's Husband?
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is u/Mobile-Loquat9371. She posted in r/AmItheAsshole Trigger warning: mentions of general creepy sexual behavior; purity culture/sex shaming Mood Spoiler: It works out for OOP Original Post: August 21, 2023 I (18F) just started my freshman year of college last week. At my university, it is not mandatory that you live on campus the first year, and I did not want to live in a dorm, so my parents helped me apartment hunt. They mostly just gave me tips or helped when asked because they wanted me to pick what I thought would be best for me, since I'm ultimately going to be the one paying for the rent. I chose a place very close to campus (5-15 minute walk depending on which building you're heading to) and with great amenities in relation to my rent payment. It's not campus-owned, but it is exclusively marketed to students and has a questionnaire on the application for the purpose of placing you with your roommates that asks about your major, greek affiliation, clubs, etc. Anyway, I applied, got accepted, and got a letter two weeks prior to move-in with my apartment number, bedroom number, and the name/phone # of my new roomies for a 3-bed unit. We made a group chat and started to get to know each other. Layla (19F) is a sophomore, and Mina (23F) is a college super senior. I found out what they study, what they like, what they hate, what they're allergic to, their ground rules, etc. Everything seemed great. Then the day I move in I learn Mina is married. Her husband Kurt (25M) is nice, but he didn't leave. After a couple days I come to learn that he lives in the apartment with Mina. Definitely not what I was expecting and not what I signed up for. The apartment complex does not do co-ed living unless you and another person apply together for a 2-bed unit. I ended up asking Mina offhandedly where Kurt stays just to confirm, and she said he lives with her in her room. She asked me in a joking tone if I'd be "hush hush" about it because the leasing office doesn't know and this is the cheapest option for them with all the amenities they want until they get a house together, which they're planning to purchase/finance in the spring when they're sure Mina is going to graduate. They're also apparently trying (or will start trying) for a baby because they're ready for a family. I'm upset and uncomfortable and I don't know what to do. I want to report Mina to the leasing office and get her removed, but I'm worried that even thought they're the ones breaking the rules that I might just be overreacting. I really don't like living with a grown man I don't know when I signed up to live with other girls, primarily in my age group. I was excited to move in with people that I wouldn't feel weird walking around in a sports bra and gym shorts, and being able to go to the fridge in the middle of the night for a snack in my underwear, and not having to lock the door every time I go in or leave my room, but I don't feel like I can do that with Kurt here. I've already caught him looking me up and down and I really don't want it to go past that and there be drama on top of all of this. Would I be the asshole if I just report the situation to my landlord? EDIT- I'll be talking to Layla tomorrow when we've got some time alone. Also I need to clarify something that seems to have been misunderstood. Mina and Kurt wouldn't be homeless, they would just have to move back in with their parents. When I said in my explanation they would have "nowhere to go" I meant that, as far as I know, they don't have relatives in town or a friend with an extra room. So Mina would likely have to switch her classes to online or take a gap semester or gap year before finishing her degree, that is if she can't find someone to stay with, IF she even gets removed from the apartment. Also, she and Kurt aren't "broke college kids". They both come relatively well-off families, I'm guessing, because they each have new, pretty expensive cars and no payments, and Mina has mentioned to me that she'll be graduating debt free and never had to take out a loan. This is all on top of the fact that Kurt has no job, which got confirmed to me like an hour ago, and they've both talked in front of me about how they'll be able to afford a 60k down-payment on a house in spring. They're also looking for home back in the city they're from which is far more expensive than buying a place in most of the rest of the state. Maybe I'm being a bit presumptuous, but I think they would've been able to financially handle moving into a different place. I'll update again tomorrow after talking to Layla. EDIT 2- Corrected my mistake in my first edit. Second edit is in the comments. Further updates will be provided as they happen I guess. Thanks all

Since that recent FCC post got so much attention, I thought I'd show y'all inside one of our units - a side by side sleeper.
Our latest addition to the fleet - a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia, equipped with a Bolt custom side by side sleeper - featuring a sink, flat screen TV, induction cook top, Coleman rooftop AC, in-motion satellite, convection microwave, and "dorm size" fridge and freezer. Feel free to ask any questions. I'm one of the partners of Millennials in Trucking, a small fleet within FCC, and we're actually looking to add a team here in the near future. submitted by /u/MamaBearTrucker to r/Truckers [link] [comments]

AITA for not letting my roommate use my micro-fridge unless she pays for 1/2 of the rent for it?
Throwaway because she knows my main I (F19) am currently doing summer classes at my college, as I was able to stay on campus due to familial issues. I have a roommate (F19), Jill, who seemed like she was great. Before we moved in, I asked her if she wanted to split the cost of renting a “Micro-Fridge” (about $220 USD for the year). She says no, she doesn’t need a fridge or a microwave. I rented my own and thought everything was okay. A week or so into living together, Jill asks if she can use the microwave to heat up her food from a few nights ago. I say sure, because I didn’t think it was a huge deal, and thought it was a one time event. Nope. She continued asking to use the microwave for a few weeks, buying food that could ONLY BE MADE IN A MICROWAVE without asking me if that was okay. I let it slide because I didn’t really didn’t want to get into it with her. A week passed, and I told her that I wanted her to pay 1/3 of the cost if she was going to be using it that much, as she was also leaving a pretty big mess regularly inside of it. She just laughed and said that it’s “our” microwave and she can do what she wants with it. Then, I get back from grocery shopping one day and go to put ice cream in the freezer to discover that it has a BUNCH of her stuff in it, leaving me with no room to put my stuff in. So I told her that if she wanted to keep using it, she had to pay me 1/2 of the rent for it. She scoffed and said that I was being a bad roommate and that it was fine for her to use it as it was in our room, and that it was unfair for me to go from 1/3 to 1/2. Well, 1/3 was when she was only using the microwave, but when she’s taking up significant space, I want her to contribute to it more. I told her that I wanted her to Venmo the money to me by the end of the week, or I’d take her stuff out of the fridge and put everything in my room where she can’t get to it. A week passes. Still no money. I can barely fit any of my stuff in the fridge that I pay for because of everything she has in there. I reminded her a couple of times about it, going about 1.5 weeks. Then, I took all of her stuff out of the fridge and put it by her bed, moving the fridge into my room and locking the door. She gets back and FREAKS out, yelling about how I’m a horrible roommate and she needs her Gatorade to be cold because it helps with her migraines (I’ve been living with her for a few weeks now and she’s never mentioned this before), and that if I don’t get the fridge out of my room, she’s going to get the people in charge of the dorm involved. I asked for the money again, and she said that it was her right to use it as we were sharing the room. She continued to flip out at me until I just went into my room and shut her out. AITA? I think I’m being reasonable because it’s my fridge that I pay for. A few of my friends agree with me, but Jill’s friends have been texting me about how I’m “messing with her migraines” and “making her life harder because the meds don’t work on her”. submitted by /u/throwaway972511 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA For removing a housemates frozen leftovers from the freezer due to excessive use of space.
So at university in our halls of residence we have 6 rooms with en-suites and then a kitchen which is shared by all 6 of the rooms. In the kitchen we have one fridge and two freezers. There is 3 draws/shelves in each of the freezers and we’ve adopted a loose ‘one freezer drawer each’ policy. We don’t stick to it religiously it’s just a within reason type of thing. So I moved quite far from university because I wanted to be away from home. None of my secondary school friends or friends from home came with me. One of my dorm mates is the exact opposite, it seems that everyone she knows came to this university and she’s not made much effort to be social with our dorm since she’s got her own friends already including her boyfriend - not a problem. So flash to the incident. I come home from a trip to the supermarket and bring back a bunch of frozen stuff with me, nothing that would take up more than a shelf. When I go to the freezer I normally use there is a huge Tupperware container on the shelf I normally use with one portion of left over chilli in it. Now this Tupperware box could have easily fit 12 portions of chilli in it, but there was only one portion in there. I checked the other freezers and the other shelves to make sure there was no space and then I knocked on her door to see if she was in but I got no answer. Now I had about $30 worth of frozen stuff to put away as I only shopped for frozen stuff fortnightly so I could get a taxi back instead of waiting for a bus. So the only logical thing was to remove the obscenely large Tupperware box, which I did. I put it on the shelf with some of my smaller boxes and left a note, since she’d not given any of us a phone number, saying. ‘If you need smaller boxes let me know, happy to lend if you need. If it spoils let me know.’ Then I put my stuff away and left it at that. The next day someone knocks on my door and it’s her boyfriend. He says something along the lines of. ‘Don’t touch my girlfriends food’ and tries to give off an intimidating aura. I essentially cut to the chase and tell him that if there is a problem she needs to come speak to me, and that she needs to not take obnoxious amounts of valuable space and then politely tell him to get fucked. She hasn’t spoken to me about it again. AITA? submitted by /u/throwaway1246789741 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

What to eat in College with no fridge or freezer?
Basicallly me and some others in my dorm have no fridge space and we tried everything to sort it out but we cannot and we even looked into mini fridges to no avail and I do not know what to eat everyday for the week. As I want to save money I imagine eating out everyday is not the best option so what would be? Thanks! submitted by /u/NotoriousMadRap to r/Frugal [link] [comments]
