There are 3 team members from a different country in my organization that have been talking among themselves in their language. I speak their language. They don't know I do. Over the last 5 months they have talked about: How annoying and pushy I am (because I drill them on the business needs and don't just accept every request they have) How I probably slept my way to my position (because I have big boobs) including trying to guess which one of my colleagues have actually slept with (at first I thought they were talking about our colleague Randy) (IYKYK). How embarrassed my kids are to have me as a mother / my kids deserve to be bullied for having a whore as a mother (I don't have kids) How I dress provocatively to tempt my married boss (in the immortal words of Mei Lee "I wear what I want, say what I want, and I will not hesitate to do a spontaneous cartwheel if I feel so moved!") How I look tired/have black circles because at night I suck dick for money (I do suck dick at all hours of the day, I wasn't aware there was funding available) who do I think I am to tell them what to do with their budget (I am your Finance Director you dick cheese, it is literally my job) We had a guest speaker from their country who I welcomed and helped set up. I may have looked straight at them a few times as I spoke with him. It was beautiful watching their faces turn from confusion to shock to terror. They were panicking like "wow we didn't know you speak the language, how long ago did you learn, how come you chose [language]" I said something like "I like knowing what people say behind my back, or in some cases, right in front of me" and I gave them my signature death glare. So this morning their director, my VP and I got in a room. Apparently by not disclosing that I speak their language, I "withheld crucial business context from them" and "created a hostile work environment". UPDATE 3 BELOW I foolishly paid the invoice before asking for photos or inspecting the job because I thought that it was straightforward and there was no way that it could be done so poorly as this. UPDATE: I don't know if I was being cheap when I picked a contractor. I found a nearby highly rated one on Google with 5.0star average and 152 reviews. Initially I thought he had thousands of reviews but I was mistaken. The job was to fix the AC because it wasn't working and I didn't know why. He determined there was a leak in the coil. He replaced that. Then, couldn't draw a vacuum and decided that there was likely a leak in the line set. So he replaced that. Then couldn't pump all the moisture out of the system so he replaced the accumulator as well. All the parts were under warranty except for the line set which was 400. At the end of the day, the total bill was 1000 for refrigerant. 400 for the line set and 2100 in labor. I've talked to other AC companies in the area since yesterday and they all have said that the price is just about reasonable for the Charleston area. I am waiting to see if I hear back from the company that did the work. Hopefully will get a call today. I have another company coming out in a few days to check and see what the work looks like and if they can fix it by running the line set properly. If I can't get ahold of the original company who did the work, I'll likely try to seek help from a lawyer. UPDATE 2: for everybody wondering if I'm the renter or the homeowner, I'm the homeowner. I live about 7 hours away which is why I didn't come and inspect the work immediately and wasn't there for the actual work being performed. I finally managed to make it back down and that's where I became aware of what was actually done. so, the AC company that performed the work is licensed, insured, and bonded. It wasn't a random contractor. but it is definitely somebody who purchased reviews on Google. the issues don't actually stop at how they ran the lines. I had. a real AC company with actual substantial backing come out to quote me on the repair work. he didn't think it would be much because he can just rerun the line set. turns out, he can't rerun the line set, because the line set calls for 7/8 in line and this contractor ordered and installed 3/4-In line. the braised joints are absolutely hilarious looking. on top of that, the new AC company drilled holes and checked the ceiling. It is a straight shot all the way across. plenty of room to run the lines in the ceiling. would have actually been. the easier way is what told me. secondly, there is a one-way f valve that the previous company installed on the 7/8 in line. it's installed in the correct orientation, but unfortunately it's a one-way. this system is a heat pump so it requires a two-way. So in the winter, I would have been calling an AC company because the heat wouldn't have worked. On top of it all, The thermostat line was still left through the foundation so that will likely go bad soon and need another replacement. The quote that the professional company gave me to fix everything was actually cheaper than the job that was performed initially. UPDATE 3: spent some time working with the new AC company on what to say to the previous one. put together a polite but legally spicy email. turns out the company I asked to do the inspection actually has a tech working for them that used to work for the company that performed the initial "work". he left because the owner was " slimy and screwed people over". they've been a voice of reason in this because I'm struggling to maintain my cool. anyways, sent the email and a text saying that I would like a refund to cover cost of doing the job correctly and repairing the drywall along with a quote for the work needing to be redone. after 48 hours of no response from initial company, that email garnered a call within 2 minutes. I didn't pick up and requested that all communication will be via email or text to make sure there are no further " miscommunications". the old company then texted saying that he told me he would be running the lines like this and his employees all witnessed him telling me that on the phone. maybe I'm just forgetful but I don't recall being told that. he then said that he would have come back and fixed it if I asked nice but becUse I'm "being this way he half wants to do it the hard way". so I feel like he is interested in taking it to court. I don't mind that at all. my phone records all my calls so I have actually caught him in a lie here. (my state is a single party consent state) I also have ample evidence that he did multiple things wrong which will very likely threaten his licence if he continues down this route. honestly, all I want is my money back to fix what was done wrong. that's it. I could let it go after that but it feels like he wants to either go to court or is trying to call my bluff. either way, I hope it works out. I really don't want to cripple his business because maybe he was just having a shit day And everything went wrong and he blitzed through the work to get home to a sick kid or something. I don't know his life. I don't want to know. I (24F) recently started my first full time job after graduating. My company has an optional team social fund where each member of our small department contributes a set amount every month to cover birthday treats, team lunches, and small surprises.
