Re: Which E-Sims with VPN are actually the most reliable ones
If you’re using an eSIM then you don’t need a VPN to bypass the great firewall. I use Holafly when travelling in China due to it being unlimited data, but any of the travel eSIM providers will work and bypass the firewall.

Best eSIM in China? Shanghai and Guangzhou
Where can I get an eSIM with fast speed data? I just went to Trip.com and all of the eSIMs I found there say my “device is not compatible with this eSIM”. I have an iPhone 17 with Tmobile service from the states and technically have roaming here, but my data is SO slow. My phone shows 4 bars but nothing loads - Alipay, maps, etc. I’ve been needing to go into different shops to get their WiFi just so I can order a Didi and whatnot. Can anyone recommend a solid solution? submitted by /u/Crt827 to r/eSIMs [link] [comments]

Best eSIM for travel to mainland China?
I searched but couldn’t find any recent posts exactly on point. We will be there for two weeks, and need to use four devices (three iPhones, one iPad). (ETA: will also be in Hong Kong for three days, needs to work there too!) I was all set to buy Holafly as it was reasonably priced, had unlimited data, and had good reviews. But now I’m seeing some concerning reviews, and am back to square one. Has anyone used an eSIM recently in mainland China and liked it? Main concerns are ease of setup and data speed (need YouTube for toddler). Thanks in advance for any tips! submitted by /u/Jlee375 to r/eSIMs [link] [comments]

eSIM Question!
I am a Canadian traveling to China for the first time at the end of the month. I will be visiting Shanghai and Beijing. I just got AliPay and WeChat but unsure what eSIM to purchase. Ideally want something reliable even if it costs a bit more, the peace of mind is worth it for me. Any suggestions? I’ve been looking at Nomad or Holfly potentially. I’m also planning to get a vpn to use social media and Google Translate as I don’t speak the language. Thanks for the help! submitted by /u/Different_Term_5435 to r/travelchina [link] [comments]

What's the best travel SIM for China, is there an eSIM that doesn't need VPN?
I’ve just arrived home after three weeks in China and wanted to share my eSIM experience. I wrote this up because I know how confusing connectivity can be over there, and this might save you some trial and error. I started the trip using a Global Yo eSIM that I bought before leaving Australia and installed as soon as I landed. I’ve used Global Yo a lot on past trips and it’s usually been reliable. This time, the speeds were rough. Pages crawled. Some apps barely loaded. It worked, but only just. Mid-trip, I switched to the Trip. com eSIM. It claimed you don’t need a VPN, which I didn’t fully believe. To my surprise, it actually worked. Google and Meta apps loaded without a VPN. Speeds were decent and setup was simple. The only real limitation was no access to ChatGPT or Gemini. Even with that, it felt like good value and removed a lot of friction. On my last day, I bought a China Unicom physical SIM mostly out of curiosity. I wanted to see how hard it really was. Turns out, it was easy. I only needed my passport and WeChat or Alipay to pay. The whole process took about 15 minutes. The SIM came with 30 days of data and topping up looked straightforward. The biggest difference was getting a local number. f you’re staying short term, I’d point you toward the Trip. com eSIM. It’s convenient, works straight away, and avoids VPN headaches. If you’re staying longer, a local SIM starts to make sense. The local number unlocks apps like Meituan and Taobao, which the eSIMs didn’t support. https://traveldayztravel.com/best-china-travel-sim-card-guide/ https://preview.redd.it/cf78pau463eg1.png?width=472&format=png&auto=webp&s=0dac0302db90172efcc79f46ad0d18cf3be67ea6 submitted by /u/Traveldayztravel to r/travelchina [link] [comments]

Has anyone used the Airalo (Chinacom) eSIM in China recently? Does it bypass the Great Firewall?
Hi everyone, I am planning a trip to China soon and I'm considering buying an eSIM from Airalo to stay connected. I noticed their current provider listed is Chinacom (or China Unicom). I know that generally, foreign SIMs roaming in China tend to bypass the Great Firewall because the traffic is routed through a server outside of China (like HK or Singapore). However, I want to confirm if this is still the case specifically with the current Airalo Chinacom package. submitted by /u/Hot_Map6251 to r/Airalo [link] [comments]

Tips for tourists: China eSIMs
I've spent the whole of today wrestling with various service providers because of eSIM unavailability, and here's my 2 tips after 13 hours of back and forth. 1) Prepare more than 1 eSIM Unfortunately, my main SIM card (which I had purchased from Singapore) was unable to catch service upon landing in China (Chengdu). In order to book myself a Didi to get to my hotel, etc, I had to sit at the airport at a cafe with free wifi to hurriedly purchase another eSIM. I only managed to resolve my main SIM card issue the next day. It's probably best to have a backup eSIM from a different provider (buy a small amount) so you can do the necessities upon landing, like getting yourself to your accommodation. 2) Avoid Airalo - 24/7 Support Is A Lie When my main SIM card wasn't working, I decided to purchase another Airalo eSIM as they promised 24/7 support. Unfortunately, the service is awful. Upon activation, there was no mobile service. Airalo's customer support then proceeded to ignore me on their app and on their WhatsApp, for 12 hours. With no mobile service at all. I can't stress the importance of having a backup eSIM given that so many providers often face technical hiccups with the great firewall. submitted by /u/todayis1984 to r/travelchina [link] [comments]

Airalo eSIM for China – is it reliable?
I’m from Europe and I’m going to China soon. I was looking at the Airalo eSIM. I don’t know much about eSIMs, so I’m trying to find a safe and reliable option. Has anyone used Airalo in China? Did it work well, and were you able to access apps like Instagram, Gmail, and Google Maps without issues? I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or experiences from anyone who’s tried it there. *Edit: Does Yesim work better than Arialo? submitted by /u/Flaky-Climate-2728 to r/chinatravel [link] [comments]

Why Is eSIM Still Unavailable in China?
Apple has already rolled out the iPhone 17, but devices sold in China continue to rely on physical SIM cards. This is unusual because Apple phased out physical SIMs starting with the iPhone 14, and eSIM technology has become the global standard in many regions. Despite this global shift, eSIM support remains absent in China. Does anyone know the reasons behind this restriction? submitted by /u/Spirited-Grade6705 to r/eSIMforTravelers [link] [comments]

China tightening eSIM controls
Apple is tightening restrictions in line with China’s newly published internet control policy. With the new eSIM-only iPhone Air, Apple confirmed that users in China will not be able to activate overseas eSIM cards on their devices (at least while in the country, according to Apple’s documentation). This effectively blocks one of the easier ways people could get around the firewall, since using a foreign eSIM gave access to unrestricted mobile internet without needing VPNs or other workarounds. This also clears up the rumors swirling around eSIM support by making the limitations official. On top of that, Apple and Chinese carriers are now blacklisting foreign iPhones from obtaining eSIM service in China, to prevent people from sidestepping restrictions by just importing a device. Previously, it was possible, though complicated, for users to get a local eSIM provisioned on a foreign iPhone, but that loophole has now been closed. Full details are here on Apple’s site: support.apple.com/zh-cn/123879. submitted by /u/gzmonkey to r/chinalife [link] [comments]

I am confused about esim/sim importance while in China.
I have my regular number and alipay/wechat/didi. I got an esim from trip.com and so internet is sorted. Now my friend tells me I won't be able to order food because i dont have a chinese sim ... which, if true, is annoying but not too problematic. But this made me think, even with esim, am I restricted by not having a chinese phone number and using my regular number? Lost iPhone
Hey all so I lost my iPhone 13 Pro Max after a night out in Ft. Worth. It had a 6-digit passcode and was immediately put into lost mode the following morning. The very next day I had my eSIM with my old number changed to the phone I have now. Through the week I saw its location go from Houston, to Miami, to China. I’ve received some texts asking to sign in to iCloud to remove the device but they did not seem legit. Today I received this longer message which sort of alarmed me. The question is how concerned should I be or is it really legit? What next steps should I take to ensure my information is not sold? submitted by /u/Glad_Cod_4918 to r/iphone [link] [comments]

eSim recommendations for China
Hi, I've been looking into options for eSims to use in China. Apparently some eSims are very slow in China? If anyone has any advice/recommendations it would be appreciated. I don't need a phone number, need acceptable speed and data (Probably 10-20gb for 3 weeks) and want it to bypass the firewall. Oh, also if there's an eSim that'll cover Singapore too that would be great (couple hour layover there) submitted by /u/McpeIsSoBuggy to r/travelchina [link] [comments]
