I've got a particular kind of weird setup in my house and am hoping there's a product out there that will solve it-- if you know what monitor might fit my use, I'd love to hear about it. Currently, we have a Momcozy local-only baby monitor. My husband's and my room is right across from the nursery, so no issues with that so far. Our problem is that, now that baby is sleeping through the night, we are hoping to have some family members over to watch him overnight. This would be a really easy job generally, since he hardly ever wakes up after going down at 8- BUT the problem is that our guest room is too far away from the nursery for babysitters to be able to sleep and still hear him on the monitor. Ideally what I'd like for this is: a baby monitor camera and screen that connects to wifi, you can see it on your phone I guess, but we really like the portable screen because it's always on, it lights up and plays sound if the baby has a problem (doesn't just send a push notif), and you can look at him right away to see if it's real distress or if it's one of those, midnight single "WEH" situations. Solutions that we COULD do, but would avoid if possible, include: letting guests sleep in our room, giving guests app access to a camera where there's no portable screen, or giving them a tablet that's tuned to the camera's wifi feed. Those all would WORK but don't seem as easy or straightforward as "the baby's in bed, here's a little screen, it will make noise if he makes noise." Does the thing I'm looking for exist? I've checked VTech cameras and firstly there are TOO many models, and secondly the few I've tried are wifi-connected for the camera, but not the portable screen. So we had this Eufy baby monitor since baby was born but lately I’m finding the picture to be grainy and blurry. I am not happy with the inability to see baby clearly. The other day baby was sick and threw up in bed, we heard and saw it ofc but I realized I couldn’t see the vomit on screen.. and I don’t like that. What if I hadn’t heard seen the baby getting up to throw up? It just worries me that I couldn’t tell just by looking at the crib that something went wrong. Anyway I would love a recommendation on baby monitors that are no wifi and good picture quality in pitch dark rooms. i know everyone talks about nanit and owlet and all the smart wifi monitors but we went the opposite direction and got the eufy spaceview. no wifi, no app, no subscription, no cloud anything. just a camera and a handheld screen. after 10 months im so glad we did quick context, we looked at wifi monitors first and i kept reading the same complaints. lag, dropped connections, app crashes at 2am, needing your phone unlocked to check on the baby, notifications not working, servers going down. and honestly the idea of my babys nursery being streamed through some companys cloud server creeped me out even if the risk is tiny the eufy connects directly to the parent unit on its own signal. you turn it on, it works. theres no setup beyond that. no account, no email, no firmware updates at 11pm. the range covers our whole house including the back yard and we havent had a single dropout video quality is genuinely good. the night vision is clear enough to see if the baby is breathing, which is the only thing you actually care about at 3am. you can pan, tilt, and zoom from the parent unit which is great for when the baby rolls to a weird corner of the crib. the wide angle lens covers the whole room without needing to move the camera much the parent unit screen is 5 inches which is bigger than most. we keep it on the nightstand and glance at it when we hear a noise. battery lasts through the night if you leave it on eco mode, which turns the screen off but keeps audio active and flicks the screen back on if it detects sound. we just leave it plugged in at night anyway so battery life hasnt been an issue temperature sensor on the camera is useful. it shows the room temp on the parent unit constantly. saved us a couple of times when the heating went weird overnight and the nursery was getting too warm. not a feature i thought id care about but now i check it every night now the honest downsides the parent unit feels plasticky. not like its going to break but it doesnt feel premium either. the buttons are fine but the menu navigation is a bit clunky if you need to change settings. you wont be in the menus often though so its not a daily annoyance no app means no recordings, no sleep tracking, no time lapse clips of your baby sleeping. if thats important to you this isnt your monitor. we genuinely dont care about any of that stuff but i know some parents love the data the camera mount is basic. its a standard screw mount which works fine on a shelf or dresser but wall mounting takes a bit more effort. we just sat it on the bookshelf and angled it down toward the crib. works perfectly but the cord management is on you audio quality is good but not amazing. you can clearly hear crying, fussing, talking. background white noise from the sound machine sometimes gets picked up which makes the vox mode trigger occasionally. we adjusted the sensitivity down one notch and that fixed it one thing i didnt expect to appreciate is just how fast it turns on. you press the button and the video is there. no loading, no "connecting to server", no spinning wheel. sounds like nothing but at 2am when you hear a weird sound and want to check immediately, instant is everything if you want a reliable monitor that just works every single time with zero internet dependency and zero subscription fees, this is it. if you want smart features, sleep analytics, and app integration, look elsewhere. we tried the simple route and honestly i dont think well ever go back to wifi anything for baby monitoring anyone else deliberately go the non wifi route? or am i the only paranoid one submitted by /u/FriendLongjumping557 to r/ParentTestedGear [link] [comments]

Hi! I really need some help with choosing baby monitor. Ideally I need something with both wifi and no wifi option (I am aware about the hacking risks), so that I can play back the video on my phone. I'd also like it to have the move sensor as my baby likes sitting up and crawling quietly without really waking up. I have an eufy and it drives me insane how inconvenient the app is and it also only reacts to the full on screaming, so we have to have the screen on all the time and keep an eye on it. Hello everyone, I am looking for a baby monitor (camera + monitor) that communicates via my Wi-Fi network but works without the internet. I can easily disable the baby monitor's internet access in the router, but the baby monitor + monitor should of course continue to work within the WiFi range in the house. Does anyone here have any experience or suggestions? With the Eufy baby monitor, for example, I haven't been able to find anything yet about whether it still works when internet access is blocked. Googling this topic is extremely tedious because it seems like everyone thinks that Wi-Fi is the same as the internet... Since most “no Wi-Fi” baby monitors communicate at 2.4 GHz (the same frequency as Wi-Fi), I don't see the point in simply using my existing Wi-Fi, which covers the entire house with an access point. However, I don't need the baby monitor to have internet functionality for remote access or anything like that. I'm trying to understand how the WiFi connection works on the Eufy E21 Baby Monitor. I know that the Local Connection feature is a proprietary protocol between the camera and the monitor, but I'm a bit unclear about how the WiFi connection operates. Is the WiFi connection strictly local, or does it require an Internet (cloud) connection? Specifically, what happens if I connect the camera, monitor, and my smartphone to a WiFi network with no Internet access? Would I still be able to view the feed in the Eufy app and on the monitor, or does the app require Internet to function? I will start out my pros and cons list by saying this: I am not affiliated with any of these brands in any way. I have simply spent a month (or more) trying to find the best baby monitor out there for multiple children. I have spent a lot of time speaking with both Harbor and Eufys customer service to iron out questions I have had about some of their features. I wanted to share my findings, as these are all relatively new monitors, and there are very little reviews out there, about the Harbor specifically. They are trying to get the word out about their monitors, I myself even received an email to spread the word with my own link to share. If you decide to go with the Harbor, please feel free to use my link to purchase here - That way I can earn money to be able to purchase this mystical $800+ monitor and update my findings with an unbiased opinion! I personally have purchased the Eufy E21 (has not arrived to my house yet, I purchased it on sale a few days ago) and I also own the Vava 8 inch, which I impulsively purchased at Walmart on one of their crazy baby clearance days for 50% off. Initially, when I began looking, the Harbor was the unit I REALLY wanted because of the wifi/non wifi options. However, with the new Eufy E21 out as a competitor, it was hard to justify the price. If any information that I have provided below is incorrect, or outdated, please let me know and I will update accordingly. I want this thread to help parents find the perfect unit! For those who are not familiar with the basics, the Harbor and Eufy E21 are both Wifi and Non Wifi Capable Monitors. The Vava 8 Inch (VA-IH020) is NON-WIFI ONLY. Harbor $599 ($824 when you purchase one additional camera) PROS: 1.) Split screen to see 4 cameras at once 2.) Works with and without wifi. Great for those with spotty wifi in babies rooms 3.) Receive failsafe alerts to your phone and monitor if camera disconnects 4.) Large 10 inch parent monitor unit 5.) App access to view cameras from phone 6.) Extensive app control for notification preferences and motion sensors. 7.) 2k camera viewing 8.) You can control the volume and zoom of each camera independently 9.) Wall mount included 10.) Has recording, not sure if it’s 24/7. I can’t find their manual online to get a lot of details like I was able to with the eufy! 11.) Has “smart audio” to customize audio notifications, but I’m not sure if they have noise reduction? I have seen videos of their app camera/notification customization, and the amount of things you can adjust on there is amazing. 12.) 10 inch monitor unit doubles as a digital picture frame. 13.) You can trade in your old monitor to receive either $100 or $200 back on your purchase 14.) The little reviews I have found on Harbor all seem to be glowing. 15.) They USED to have a monthly subscription, but it seems they have done away with that and include a lifetime subscription with the purchase of the monitor, hence the hefty price. Added to the pros list since there is no monthly subscription fee. 16.) Per their customer service, their monitor is very travel friendly. The camera comes with a twist off foot that mounts to your wall and also hides the cord. To take the camera with you, screw the camera off of the foot. 17.) Also straight from customer service, travel mode: when you power up the device outside of your home, the monitor auto detects lack of home wifi, and switches into the direct (non-wifi) mode. CONS of Harbor: 1.) PRICE. For monitor and 2 cameras, price is $824. This is $465 more than the Eufy E21 at $359 with the 2 camera bundle. 2.) Mixed reviews on night nanny service. Personally, I find this service useless as you can customize your notifications to your liking, so I don’t see how another notification from a person will help you (I don’t have this monitor so I haven’t actually tried this feature, this is just my initial thoughts on it) You do also have to pay for the service, it is not included in the lifetime subscription cost. 3.) I don’t think the cameras have a built in battery, so if power goes out you can’t see babies. 4.) No floor stand (if that matters to you, it doesn't to me, I screw my cameras on the wall) 5.) You can't choose between wifi and non wifi mode, like you can with the Eufy. However, according to customer service, they are actively working on an update to enable you to switch more easily between internet and non-internet modes to access the direct mode. FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE, RE: WIFI: In regard to wifi outages (should an outage occur in your home): If there’s an issue with the router, the system will try to reconnect to your home network. During this process, the Camera may reboot as a final step. After that, if the Monitor is within ~50 feet of the Camera, it should connect directly. We're working on extending this range, and the current reconnection process typically takes 5-7 minutes, with improvements planned to bring that down to 1-2 minutes in the coming months. In regard to an ISP Outage: If your internet provider goes down but the router is still running, the system will keep working as usual. You may receive a 'disconnect' notification, as our backend will detect the loss of connection with the camera logs. Eufy E21 - $259.99 ($359 for the 2 camera bundle on Amazon) PROS: 1.) Active noise reduction 2.) Alternates the sound every 5 seconds between the two cameras and you can see both babies at the same time 3.) If the power goes out the camera has a built in rechargeable battery, so you can still see baby 4.) 24/7 recording (for this feature I believe you have to have a c10 micro SD card (max 128gb) installed into the camera. I have ordered a sandisk extreme C10 128gb for my camera) 5.) Comes with a crib mount 6.) Sound alerts to our phones 7.) 4K HD 8.) Users have noted that the monitor doesn't play an active noise/alarm when monitor is dying or when/if camera disconnects, so you could possibly sleep through not being able to see or hear babies through the night without that alarm feature. 3.) Users have noted when you switch the wifi off, it doesn’t actually disconnect. Users have noted that Eufy support has said they are working on an update to this as well. 4.) I do not believe there is a floor stand. Not sure if pro or con of Eufy E21: 1.) User stated as a pro, but I see it as a con, monitor unit does not have a kickstand. However, it does have a charging base for it to sit upright on. I am also not sure if the Eufy requires a monthly subscription to use the app. I will provide updates when I receive the unit (set to arrive tomorrow) and begin playing with the app and setup. VAVA (VA-IH020) $259.99 ($369.98 total if you need two cameras) This monitor is your basic non-wifi baby monitor, so there are no fancy extra wifi features or app, which is absolutely fantastic if you are looking for a wifi-free monitor for multiple children. PROS: 1.) Large 8 inch monitor screen 2.) Split screen capability, up to 4 cameras. The sound between the rooms switches every 15 seconds, according to the user manual. 3.) Camera has loud alarms to alert you if baby is crying, can turn off alarms. Alarms you if camera is disconnected as well. 4.) Camera has "autopilot" mode, which scans the nursery if your baby is alone and playing independently. 5.) Monitor has kickstand 6.) I have read reviews that the parent monitor has a really long battery life. 7.) Easy setup. Camera was already paired. You just have to plug in and go! CONS: 1.) Customer service has been slow to respond to me (emailed them last week, they emailed me back to describe my issue, emailed them back same day, then they emailed me back just today to let me know they were on Lunar NY until Feb 4th.) Not sure how fast they usually respond outside of this. (The unit I purchased was faulty, the parent monitor dies quickly when not even in use) 2.) Does not come with any sort of screws to install camera on the wall, or mounts for crib, or a floor stand. 3.) Resolution is only 1080p HD, which is still better than the 720p baby monitors, but not nearly as good as Harbors 2K or Eufys 4K Some additional info on other monitors, Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro and Owlet Cam: With my first child, I purchased and still use the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro. It has been a fabulous non-wifi baby monitor, with the exception of one hiccup. My unit was faulty and began acting up after a year of use. It would no longer connect to the camera. Customer service was helpful as it was a known issue and sent me a new unit and it's been working for the year since. Since I like to go outside while my baby naps, I did need a wifi option, and I purchased the Owlet cam for a longer range and to view baby on my phone. The Owlet cam has been trash for me, personally. You could NOT use that as your primary baby monitor, as the sound on my phone just cuts out and if I were asleep when that happened, I couldn't hear my son crying. Hello! I am 20 weeks pregnant and trying to decide on a non wifi baby monitor but am having a really hard time. After reading what feels like endless reviews and Reddit posts I landed on the infant optics pro, but then I realized there were some people in canada who had no support with warranty since they are only sold through third party sellers, so I have scrapped that. Before deciding on that one, I was also looking at the Eufy spaceciew pro (which I am confused by the name I think this is the Eufy 21?) , and the v tech VM5254-2. I was definitely leaning more towards the Eufy, but can any who's had experience with these two monitors please tell me how they like them, and how good or bad they are to deal with products issues? I legitimately want to be convinced as to why this product is awesome and worth the money. Please please, tell me what you LOVE about this product so I don't have to feel like I should've returned it when I had the chance. The following is my current perspective and experience. My wife put the Nanit on our registry and it was purchased for us, so I shelled out 0 actual dollars, and shouldn't complain. However, I'm not sure I get what the hype is about. Caveat this with I've never used any other baby monitor so admittedly I don't have another experience to compare it to. I'm just looking at what it costs vs what other monitors cost (I have friends who have others and are satisfied) and am factoring in certain cons that I think kinda suck. For example, if I want to leave my kid with a family member, we either need to be logged in on their device (now they just have access unless we log them out) or we have to have a whole separate device like an iPad to give them (more $$). Or I have to pay for their upgraded subscription (again more $$). I just learned that after the first year I will lose access to the their most basic insights features of telling me when my baby fell asleep, woke up, was cared for (this is actually a neat feature) unless, again, I pay more money. Isn't that basic stuff their core selling point? Want a convenient way to travel? Shell out an extra $50 for their travel stand. Again, more $$ for a handful of plastic parts? And still, who knows if you'll have a convenient place to position it. I bought a nifty $13 thing on Amazon that I hope will be useful. Setup was buggy, hardly a premium "just works" process. The light feature on my Nanit just doesn't work. Honestly I haven't had the time or cared enough to contact them about it yet, but.. what? The temperature and humidity are sometimes just totally off. I work in software (engineer) so I get that companies get much better valuations for SaaS products than just hardware. If the Nanit hardware was cheaper, and then they charged you a subscription fee, well that would be super annoying, but I would get it. But that pro bundle is $400, PLUS a subscription. If I could at the very least have, say 10 caregivers for a low subscription fee (2 parents, a babysitter, 4 grandparents, and a couple siblings), plus the flex stand was included, even that would make me feel better. Instead, it feels like they have conveniently left out some basic features to squeeze a few extra dollars out of you. Plus, it's kinda buggy. The Eufy Wifi monitor has a lot of the same basic features, albeit without the insights, for less than a third of the up front price, and no subscription. Plus all the data is stored locally on device which is great for privacy concerns. Again, not trying to be a negative nancy here. This is my current assessment, but I want to love the product. Well, there’s flair for it, so I’m assuming yes. My LO is 15 months old. Up until this point, we’ve used the Motorola MBP36XL . Loved it. Did what I wanted, mostly. I was quarantined with my grandmother for quite some time, so brought my whole kit and caboodle with me to her house. Unfortunately, when packing, I forgot the camera, because it was hung in a hard time see spot. She’s unable to mail it down to me, so we said whatever, we’ll just buy a second camera. Except you can’t. -_- So we bought the “upgraded” version. This one. It SUCKED. Night vision only works if there’s absolutely NO light coming in the room. We don’t have black out curtains, just a dark purple sheet over the very large window, and the light coming through made the cameras night vision skitz out, and white washed the entire room. So I couldn’t actually see my kid. Started googling wifi free baby monitors, with large screens. (I don’t like the WiFi monitors and I have very poor vision.) Stumbled upon the Eufy Spaceview, and decided to try it out. THIS THING IS AWESOME! Here are two pictures of the camera view The camera comes with a removable wide angle lens, and a wall/crib mount. I chose to mount it above the crib so I can see her whole room. The picture is amazingly clear. 720p. The night vision is crystal clear, although it takes a few seconds to adjust, starts out like a standard baby monitor, all pixelated, but then it adjusts. Cool features- Sound activated alarm- 5 sound thresholds, you can pick a level and the alarm will sound for X seconds (10, 20, 30, 60) to alert you to kiddo making noise. Voice Operated Exchange- turn this on, and when the monitor goes into automatic sleep mode (which you can toggle on or off) you pick a sound threshold, and the monitor turns itself back on when child reaches that level of noise. No more noise while you sleep! It also has lullabies, and 1.5x and 2x zoom. You can add up to four cameras, and it will cycle through them. The two way talk is very clear, we tested it and I was able to hear my husband perfectly. Camera in question- Eufy Spaceview The only cons I have so far- I wish the kick stand was in the middle. It’s on the far side, so if the monitor is on an non-level surface, it topples over.
