My DIY fasting-mimicking diet plan
Not blueprint-specific, but longevity-focused. I’ve done around 6 rounds of the fasting-mimicking diet in the past few years. The first 2 times, I used ProLon, but then I just started DIYing because it’s cheaper. Quick explanation from ChatGPT because I’m lazy and on day 5 of my fast and tired. The Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) is a low-calorie, plant-based diet designed to replicate the effects of fasting while still providing some nutrition to prevent muscle loss and other negative side effects of extreme caloric restriction. It is usually followed for a short duration (typically 5 days) and is based on research by Dr. Valter Longo and his team, aimed at promoting cellular regeneration, improving metabolic health, and possibly extending lifespan. Here’s a breakdown of the typical FMD in terms of calories and macronutrients: Day 1 (The First Day) Calories: ~1,100 kcal Macronutrients: Carbohydrates: 34% (~37g) Protein: 10% (~8g) Fat: 56% (~64g) Fiber: ~15g Days 2-5 (The Following Days) Calories: ~800 kcal Macronutrients: Carbohydrates: 47% (~38g) Protein: 9% (~7g) Fat: 44% (~36g) Fiber: ~12g General Principles of the Fasting Mimicking Diet: Low Protein: The protein intake is deliberately kept low (about 10% of total calories on Day 1 and 9% on subsequent days), as high protein levels can activate growth factors that are opposed to the benefits of fasting. High Fat: The diet is rich in healthy fats (primarily from nuts, olive oil, avocados, etc.) to provide sufficient energy and to induce ketosis (a metabolic state that can have similar benefits to fasting). Plant-based: Most of the food is plant-based, with a focus on nutrient-dense, minimally processed foods. FMD Benefits: Cellular rejuvenation and regeneration Improved metabolic health (e.g., blood sugar regulation, insulin sensitivity) Weight loss and fat burning Increased longevity and reduced inflammation How It's Administered: The FMD is often done under medical supervision, especially for people with pre-existing conditions, but it can also be followed at home with commercially available FMD kits (like ProLon, a popular brand). These kits typically provide pre-measured meals to ensure correct calorie and nutrient intake. By limiting calories, particularly protein, but maintaining enough fat to keep energy levels stable, the FMD triggers beneficial processes similar to a water fast, but without the risks or extreme discomfort of total fasting. I’ve posted my cronometer data for anyone who is interested in DIYing in the future. I live in Japan, so my ingredients skewed toward things I could easily find in the supermarket here, but the basic way to do this cheaply is by eating veggies and some kind of healthy fat (I used macadamia nuts and olive oil) that total 700 calories per day in whatever combination you like. I also used shirataki noodles for three days to create an illusion of being fuller. I see no problem with this, as ProLon uses inulin to make people feel fuller. Happy to answer any questions you have. submitted by /u/sassyfrood to r/blueprint_ [link] [comments]

My Journey with Fasting and the Fasting-Mimicking Diet (FMD)
I’ve been intermittent fasting for years now, initially for health reasons, and it naturally became a lifestyle. I found it a straightforward way to manage my weight and stay healthy. I’m a 48-year-old female, currently in perimenopause, and while I’ve loved IF, this past year has presented new challenges. I’ve recently had a few thyroid issues (thankfully under control now), but I started gaining weight slowly. To combat this, I began incorporating 36-40 hour fasts, aiming for two or three times a month. But lately, I’ve been struggling to get through even a 24-hour fast. That’s when I stumbled upon the Fasting-Mimicking Diet (FMD) and decided to adapt some of its principles. Here’s how I adjusted my routine: Eating Days (Mon/Wed/Fri): I go low-grain, high-protein, and low-carb and gluten free. I eat meat but have mostly cut out grains and processed foods, which has worked wonders for me. DIY FMD Days (Tues/Thurs): I follow Dr. Longo’s macros as closely as possible for these “fasting-mimicking” days, keeping it high-fat, low-protein, and low-carb. What My DIY FMD Looks Like: It’s mostly above-ground vegetable soups and salads for the day. I input meals, ingredients, and macro goals into ChatGPT to help me hit my targets. Working Up My FMD Days Gradually: Since I want to shed a bit more weight, I’m working up to 2 FMD days and then may increase to 3-5 depending on how I feel. I work out 5 days a week and am very mindful of my energy, as I don’t want to cut back on exercise due to low energy. This setup essentially amounts to Alternate Day Fasting (ADF), and I’ve found it helps me lose weight slowly but steadily, which is easier to keep off long-term. Just wanted to share my experience – this has been a sustainable approach that works well for me! Start weight in Feb this year: 62 kgs Current weight: 55 kgs and hopefully going down submitted by /u/kavicari to r/fasting [link] [comments]

My DIY fast mimicking diet
I've been doing intermittent fasting (IF) for years to maintain my weight, and two years ago, I started 36-40 hour fasts, increasing from once a month to 2-3 times a month. I'm 48, female, and perimenopausal. I work out 4-5 days a week and stay in decent shape, but it takes effort. I eat mindfully during the week but indulge a bit on weekends. Lately, I’ve struggled with the 36-hour fasts and noticed some weight gain. I found the Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) and decided to try my own version, with ChatGPT helping me calculate the macros. I’m happy to say I’ve started losing weight again. My typical meals include nuts, olives, cucumber salad, mixed vegetable salads, and soup. Even though I only do it one day a week, I’m seeing results—not just on the scale but in inches, too. I'm planning to increase to alternate days and eventually try 3 days in a row. Just wanted to share my experience! submitted by /u/kavicari to r/FMD [link] [comments]

Does fasting mimicking diet require rules or is simply under 500 calories good enough?
I got into fasting last December. During my research I had come across mention of eating less than 500 calories being a fasting mimicking diet. I have not fasted in almost 2 months now and wanted to start a fast and was considering this. I tried researching it and I keep reading about it being some specific diet plan rather than what I thought it might be. I thought it was just no more than 500 calories. I am aware of autophagy. I am aware of dirty fasting vs clean fasting. I am aware of electrolyte needs during a fast. I have done both bone broth fasts and pure water fast for 72 ish hours. I currently do OMAD or 21:3 IF depending on the day or what I am doing. So I have so.e fasting experience already. I just don't know about this method and excessive rules and specific diet plans are just not how I do things. My plan was a bowl of bone broth with a couple of eggs, some veggies and a cup a milk in the morning trying to keep it under or around 500 calories. Otherwise just water throughout the day. Maybe just as a 48-72 fast. Does this work as a fasting mimicking diet or is it just a dirty fast? Thank you. submitted by /u/Oifadin to r/fasting [link] [comments]

Trying out the fasting mimicking diet
2 days down, keeping a bit of a journal. Don't think I've completely nailed it so far with the recipes. I'd certainly welcome any tips/advice. FASTING MIMICKING DIET.JOURNAL OF FASTING MIMICKING DIET I've decided to try and keep it reasonably simple and just eat 2 meals/day with equal calories. The diet requires 1000 cal on day 1, then 800 cal per day for the other 4 days. The aim is for roughly 55% fat, 35% carbs, 10% protein on day 1, then 9% protein, 46% fat, 45% carbs on the remaining days. DAY 1 Weight: 83.6kg. Meal 1 carrots 120g capsicum 85g celery 75g baby spinach 10g chickpeas 125g olives 10g almonds 10g pumpkin seeds 10g avocado 80g salt + squeeze of lemon juice for flavour. Meal was filling and tasted ok, not the most exciting thing in the world to eat. Meal 2 Broccoli 250g Capsicum 100g garlic 2 cloves cashews 40g olive oil 1tsp (to saute veggies in) beans 100g. Lemon juice, salt, cayenne pepper to season. Avocado 50g Just sauteed everything in a pan and then added the flavour and put the avo on top. Wow this was really really nice!!!! think I'll be having meal like this maybe with a few tweaks regularly. Day 1 macros, lost the numbers but was close to 1000cal 10% protein 50% fat, 40% carbs. Had 28g protein, which was a bit over should be under 25g. How did I feel, felt ok, a little hungry but not to bad, the meals were a real decent size. maybe a little light headed, like you do on day one of a water fast but not as strong. DAY 2Weight 83.6kg Meal 1Avocado 100g olives 15g pumpkin seeds 5g spinach 10g carrot 200g capsicum 100g celery 100g chickpea 40g lemon juice/salt for flavour. Tasted ok, decent size, was quite filling. I see what teeth are for, lots of chewing to munch through the salad. Didn't eat until about 1030, so was starting to feel a bit hungry/light headed prior. Meal 2 broccoli 150g capsicum 150g olive oil 1tsp garlic x2 cloves (forgot to put this in the meal) tomato x1 Avocado 150g. Lemon juice, salt, cayenne for flavour. Was pretty good, not as good as the night before, cashews make it nicer. Was a big bowl. Not feeling hungry at all. Macros 804 cal, protein 9%, Carbs 38%, fat 53%. had 20.5g protein. Seems like my recipes I made up give a bit less carbs and more fat. Not sure if this would have much of an effect, I would think if you overshoot on one of the macros would need to be fat, protein has to be low, under 18g is recommended, that's kind of tough to achieve using salads, might have to do some tweaks.Feel pretty good, starting to get the nice fuzzy warm feeling in the head I've felt on other fasts, but not hungry or spinning out. I might post completed journal when I'm done. submitted by /u/TspoonT to r/fasting [link] [comments]

Prolonged fasting [with healthy diet]: the cure/treatment for virtually all chronic conditions the health industry and Big Pharma want kept secret
Prolonged fasting means not eating anything for 1-2 days or more, drinking only water, preferably water with sodium and potassium added. This is different from intermittent fasting which is too weak to do much because you're only fasting ~16 hours and eating in an 8 hour window. It's still better than what the vast majority of people do, but it doesn't give you the best benefits of fasting. Personally I do mostly One Meal A Day with the occasional longer fast for the health benefits. For years now I have been reading about fasting, talked to many people who have done it, and live a fasting focused lifestyle myself. I've read many scientific articles about it, learned from a few doctors who have also researched fasting and use it such as Dr. Jason Fung, as well as the testimonies from people who have used fasting to cure practically everything from cancer and aids to autoimmune issues to pathogen infections to injuries and broken bones. It works on literally everyone who has access to adequate nutritious food for refeeds, from children to the elderly. I'm posting about it here because despite the uncountable scientific studies and evidence, there is a kind of conspiracy from the health industry and big pharma to keep this knowledge from you. They want you to believe fasting for days at a time is dangerous and unhealthy when all the science indicates the opposite. They instead tell you to eat multiple meals a day to keep your metabolism high and that fasting lowers it. Fasting actually increases your metabolism and it only begins to drop a little below normal if you've been fasting for like a week or so. More importantly who cares? Your metabolism is always in various dips and rises. Besides which once you refeed your metabolism goes back to normal. But I digress. The health industry has a messed up food circle where they glorify grains and other processed food even though we know it's bad for us, especially in the quantities they recommend. The fact that added sugar and vegetable oils are on the Generally Regarded As Safe list is criminal when we've had scientific research proving the dangers of both years before they became a staple of the American diet. Whenever I try to tell people about the benefits of prolonged fasting I'm almost always met with derision and disbelief, and it doesn't change even when I provide evidence. Even on r/fasting the people are ironically ignorant about fasting, saying things like fat children can't fast and must eat multiple meals a day or it will stunt their growth, which isn't close to true. You will also get banned there as I did for speaking about dry fasting, even though it's perfectly safe and healthy if you know what you're doing and what your body can handle. I wouldn't have a fat kid do a 7 day fast nor a dry fast, even though he could, I would have him do 48s with some 72s just to be careful and this is perfectly healthy and safe for a fat child. Honestly just use that sub for motivation because their knowledge about fasting is woefully lacking and the mods insist on staying ignorant. If you need help with or have more questions about fasting, use my sub instead: r/fastinghelp. While there are tons of scientific studies about the benefits of fasting, the thing most people seem to want are studies that specifically show fasting is specifically able to cure cancer. I try to explain to them that of course such a study doesn't exist and never will because modern medicine considers fasting dangerous and would never allow or consider a study that had even volunteered sick people do what is in their eyes a dangerous treatment. To speak nothing of the immeasurable millions that would be required to fund such a study to the proper degree that people would consider it valid. Who would spend that kind of money to prove a free treatment works when there's no profit in doing so? Furthermore, while fasting is simple, fasting to cure a problem especially one like cancer is no easy feat and requires a strict routine that is adhered to stringently, usually for a few months. 3 months ago someone dm'ed me here on Reddit asking for more information about my claims of fasting curing cancer because their dad has colon cancer and could die from it and the doctors are useless as usual. So I told him about fasting and other things and his dad started doing it, being desperate enough to try anything. Within the first week of the routine the dad's tumor stopped causing bleeding in his rectum. A month later the tumor stopped growing and had begun to shrink. A few days ago I asked and the tumor is continuing to shrink, and tumor markers are showing the results of a healthy person. The dad's life has been completely changed via virtually free treatments anyone can do. Here is a woman who cured her brain cancer in the course of a few months, baffling her doctors. There are countless more testimonials like these. Me personally I've seen it heal wounds and injuries quicker and get me recovered from the cold/flu quicker. Used to I would catch a virus at least once every year, for decades. Once I made fasting a part of my life and cleaned up my diet I haven't gotten sick since. [What I mean is in the early days I was experimenting with fasting but hadn't fully committed to it. I was still eating multiple meals a day and eating garbage food. It wasn't until I switched to omad and a healthy diet that I no longer became sick.] There are many things that happen when you prolong fast such as the activation of autophagy, the lowering of insulin, activation of apoptosis, increase of stem cells (which protects your muscles from degradation), the balance of hormones, giving the digestion a break, regenerating the immune system (upon refeeding), and many more. The benefits of fasting have been proven to be beneficial in virtually all forms of life from bacteria and yeast to insects to rodents to humans. To go into all the specific details of everything would be a near impossible task for a mere Reddit post. There is tons of literature about all of this. I will instead link to some interesting studies and reports discussing some of these things. This but a tiny sampling of what you can find if you do some research. Fasting for 3-5 days has been shown to regenerate the immune system by breaking down the old and weak white blood cells. This is the secret to being able to withstand pathogens such as the cold/flu and even covid (not that covid is much worse than the seasonal flu) and why I do not fear it or any natural pathogen. It's true that during this period your immune system is slightly weaker, and some websites try to spin this to say fasting lowers your immune system. While technically true, what they don't say is that upon refeeding your body makes brand new healthy and strong white blood cells ready to attack pathogens in your body. This is why a guy who did a 40 day straight fast did not cure his cancer, but the people who go on a routine of fasting followed by eating followed by more fasting over the course of a few months do cure their cancer. If you keep your immune system high from the beginning and stay that way cancer will be something you need no longer fear because your immune system won't allow it to get out of hand. Cancer is not some mysterious condition the health industry tries to make you believe. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4102383/ This link says much the same but also says that fasting has shown amazing results in people taking chemo and it's been suggested that fasting could be used to compliment people on chemo. This is the closest mainstream health will get to saying prolonged fasting is good or useful for curing anything. https://thesource.com/2018/11/21/fasting-for-72-hours-can-reset-your-entire-immune-system/ This one is more of the above: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6257056/ This one talks about the benefits of fasting on the skin and how it encourages healing. This link actually got me perma banned from r/askdocs who said the link is false and proves nothing. So I called them science deniers and got muted. I gave the link in response to a woman who had a minor skin condition and didn't know what to do so I suggested some fasting and a healthy diet. Naturally this was called dangerous. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6413166/ There is so much more to learn and talk about regarding fasting, but this post is long enough. All these years later and I'm still learning new things about fasting and health and nutrition. Fasting here is just the tip of the iceberg of health secrets the health industry and Big Pharma don't want you to know about. Note: I don't believe doctors are "in on it" but rather they are taught wrong in med school. Instead it is whoever is responsible for determining what gets accept by the health industry and gets taught to people in med school that is to blame, because they are the ones denying science in the name of profit. It's more profitable and you get repeat business if you, for example, sell type 2 diabetics insulin and pills (which is like giving an alcoholic more alcohol) instead of getting the person on a fasting routine and low carb diet to cure their T2D, which is exactly what Dr. Jason Fung does in Canada. submitted by /u/solaris32 to r/conspiracy [link] [comments]

AITA for snapping at my roommate for pushing Intermittent Fasting & Low-Carb diets to us?
Let me get this out: I fucking loathe diets. I was forced onto my first diet when I was 6 and I had a tummy. Weighed every morning, sent with tiny portions to school, forced into after school sports, always on a new diet. Thanks, Mom. Did I ever learn about portion sizes, calories, etc? No, of course not. But I make a mean cabbage soup. I'm 28, 5'2" and 150lbs, heavily active. I just don't count calories, don't restrict, don't diet, at all. If I want it, I'll eat it. I'm fuckable, that's all that matters to me. So a new gal, Kris, moved into our house with me and three other women. The rest of us have lived together for 2-4 years depending, we all get along. Immediately, Kris started evangelizing her diets to us. IF, Low Carb, supplements, etc. She wore down two of the other women who were willing to try, essentially, skipping breakfast and bread. I just said "Nah, not for me." She started ramping it up. When I'd make breakfast in the morning, she's come into the kitchen and make faces and go on and on about how she can't believe anyone still eats breakfast, it would make her nauseous all day, don't I feel gross and bloated eating all that bread, etc etc. I was very grey rock with her and said things like "No." "Doesn't bother me." "I like it." When it was clear she wasn't getting through to me, she amped up. She would bring it up when we were all hanging out, saying things like "It's soooo hard when you have people who aren't supportive cooking bacon and eggs at 8am." At one point, I said "Hey, are you trying to tell me I'm fat? You make a lot of weird comments about what I'm eating and when." She denied it and was like "Oh I'm SOOOOOO sorry if you felt offended." Anyway, I was cooking up a breakfast sandwich for myself when she came in and sat at the table sipping black coffee and she folded her arms and said, "You know, there are all kinds of studies saying that the whole 'breakfast is the most important part of the day' was just a marketing tactic to sell certain items." I said "Okay." "You don't have to eat breakfast, you know." "I like it." "But does your body really NEED it? You should listen to your body and do what it needs, not what you want. Keto can help you deal with all the extra cravings and-" At that point, I was 200% done. I said "Kris, shut the fuck up about your shitty diet. I don't care. I have never cared. Stop trying to force this dogshit down my throat. I'm only going to say it one more time, and if I have to again, it'll be the start of me starting the process of kicking you out. Shut. The. Fuck. Up. About. Your. Diet. No. One. Cares." She went off stomping calling me a mean brat, unsupportive, etc etc. I'm also, I guess, a fat acceptance body positive poisoner or whatever. One of the other roommates, who quit IF after like two weeks, is with me. The other thinks I just created drama. AITA? submitted by /u/stopevangelizing to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

AITA for banning fast food from the house because of my diet?
Y’all, I used to be 430 lbs and over the last 6 months I’ve lost nearly 160 lbs. I’m the smallest I’ve EVER been my adult life and I am LOVING it. My husband and I have been married 7 years and he has been super duper supportive and loving and encouraging, but he is also on the husky side and the man looooooves his fast food every week or so. I have been craving McDonald’s, kfc, all that gorgeous greasy fatty goodness and because my diet is doing so well I put a blanket ban on all fast food in the house. At first my man was 100% for it and told me whatever made my life easy but for the last month or so he’s been wanting to get fast food and I’ve told him he’s welcome to go eat out or in the car but it’s not coming in the house. He’s been getting frustrated with me and said it’s his house too and he should be allowed to eat KFC without me telling him ‘no’. In fairness to him he’s respected the rule and I know for a fact he’s not snuck it in the house. I love him and really do feel bad but my friends are really encouraging and keep telling me he needs to deal with it. Am I really a monster? Should I just relent and let him get the occasional fast food? EDIT: Guys I’m deeply humbled by your responses. Platinum?! Silver!?? I don’t deserve that. There so many more interesting AITA posts on here but I have cried tears of happiness over how amazing each of y’all on here are!! THANK YOU. I am grateful. submitted by /u/angryblackqueen to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

DIY Menu for Fasting-Mimicking Diet – $35
I didn't want to spend $250 on the kit so I took a shot a DIY menu. I'd love to get everyone's criticism or thoughts on improvements to what I've put together. Outside of the vitamins, the cost was around $35 and covered days 2-5. The first day I just restricted my normal diet to about 1,200 calories. The 4-day grocery list included: 4 cans of Amy's Soup (1 can per day) 2 avocados (half per day) Mary's Super Seed Crackers (10 per day) 10oz fresh, organic hummus (2.5oz per day) 20 kalamata olives (5 per day) 40 raw almonds (10 per day) Half-pint of blueberries (1/4 cup per day) https://preview.redd.it/7e7l9ib8wxa11.png?width=804&format=png&auto=webp&s=975bcb1470d77a84c6ed50cd40b681d2bbd82f10 submitted by /u/UniverseSimulation to r/FMD [link] [comments]

The first pilot study to examine the 16:8 diet (8 hours of free eating between 10 am to 6 pm and 16 hours of fasting in-between) suggests that daily fasting is an effective tool to reduce weight and lower blood pressure in obese individuals.

Does anyone have experience with 'Fasting Mimicking Diet' (FMD)?
Hey all - apologies if this is not 'fitness' related enough, because this is not a 'diet' in the sense of weight loss - but figured this group may have someone who has tried this + wondering how it may affect my fitness. What I want to know from someone who's tried it: What were your experiences? Could you still work out/be active? Along with the calorie deficit, there seems to be a precise macro split - is it OK to take BCAAs? Tips for dealing with the inevitable hunger? For anyone else interested - What is it? Prolonged fasting has beneficial outcomes like increasing lifespan and increasing stress resistance. However, prolonged fasting sucks and isn't very sustainable. Scientists have show that a shorter, mimic fast can restore these benefits without the majority of the suckiness that comes with not being able to eat anything. Directly from the scientific journal: In a pilot clinical trial, three FMD cycles decreased risk factors/biomarkers for aging, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer without major adverse effects, providing support for the use of FMDs to promote healthspan. Instead, you eat at a pretty severe deficit for 5 days (1000-700 calories a day) and repeated 3 times a year. Here are some resources: The original article: Brandhorst et al. (2015). "A Periodic Diet that Mimics Fasting Promotes Multi-System Regeneration, Enhanced Cognitive Performance, and Healthspan" Cell Metabolism 22(1):86-99. Paywalled, PM me for article Science blog where I found out about it plus resources for a diet plan, etc. Repeat - this is NOT a diet for weight loss, but for other health benefits submitted by /u/OKaylaMay to r/xxfitness [link] [comments]
