Why I banned sealed products from my Pokémon card show
Hey guys! I run the card show that recently banned the sale of all retail sealed products for our next event. I had no idea this would go as viral as it did. Seriously, thank you all for the support. It’s been wild - the story was on a popular radio show yesterday and they want me to have me as a guest to talk more about it more. Didn’t see that coming at all 😳 I honestly thought this would only matter to my local community, and I severely underestimated just how many people this would resonate with. So I wanted to go a little deeper into why we made this decision, because it’s not random, and it’s not for attention. I genuinely believe this is the right direction if we care about the future of the hobby. First off - I’m in this because I love Pokémon, I have a pretty big collection myself. I’m a professional poker player. I don’t need to run events to make money. I actually lost money running our first 3 shows, and it didn’t matter to me at all because I was having fun building something and watching the community grow. I love ripping packs just as much as the next guy. That’s part of what makes this hobby so fun. But recently something started to feel off - especially at our last show. I kept seeing families walking around buying sealed products at crazy marked up prices. Stuff that should’ve been on store shelves for them in the first place. And it honestly made me very upset. You could feel it in the room. And it wasn’t just me - attendees were saying the same thing. The vibe had shifted. It felt less like a community event and more like people squeezing parents for every last dollar. Our show has a lot of families - way more than your average show. We cater to them by making the event free, with free prizes for everyone and free things to do like the Pokémon trading wall (take a card, leave a card). I’ve been trying to go all out to make it the best experience for them as possible, but the scalped products really put a damper on things. I talked with tons of them and the feedback I got was strong, they could feel things had changed since our previous shows and the scalping had gotten worse. I’m not sure if it’s because we’re in a populous area, but it seems like the scalping here is worse than anywhere else. Many of the viral clips of fights have come from this area. Of course no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. But when parents are there with their kids, they’re going to say yes. That’s just reality. They end up paying a premium in the moment and then feel shitty afterwards. That’s painful to me as I have been going all out trying to make the vibes as good as possible. A lot of these families are just getting back into Pokémon with their kids, lots of 90s kids now having babies and reliving their childhood. This is their first real experience with the community in years or sometimes ever. If they feel used and unwelcomed, they won’t come back and it’s just overall horrible for the community. If it hurts the average family walking in, it doesn’t belong at our show. When I first started running events, this wasn’t a big issue. A few vendors had marked up sealed, but it wasn’t overwhelming. This last show was different. It was everywhere. Tables full of products that should’ve gone to collectors and families at retail, now sitting there at 3x, sometimes even higher. And at some point I had to be honest with myself - if I allow that, then I’m contributing to it. Whether I like it or not, I’m still creating a place for that to happen. After the event, my local Pokémon Facebook group was talking about it, and the overwhelming consensus was the same - the vibe had changed and scalping had gotten out of control. That’s what pushed it over the edge for me. So I made the call. No more retail sealed. No buying it, no selling it, no loopholes. I also banned gambling-style games and mystery packs, and added rules to make sure fan art is clearly labeled. This isn’t about controlling what people can buy - it’s about what kind of environment I’m choosing to host. I understand this won’t be for everyone. Some vendors and attendees will be frustrated. And some people think I’m overreacting. That’s fine. There are plenty of other shows where anything goes. But this is what I feel is right for my community. Also, I could be wrong here, but my gut tells me that if retail sealed is off the table, the money people bring doesn’t just disappear - it shifts. Most people come in with a set budget, and if that money isn’t getting pulled into marked up sealed, it likely flows into singles and slabs. But we’ll see. No real way to know for sure until it plays out. I also want to be clear about something - I’m not trying to start a movement or tell the entire hobby what to do. We’re just one event. I have no idea what kind of impact this will have on our local market, if any. When I made the original post, I was just thinking about our show and the kind of environment I want to create in our small world. I didn’t expect it to turn into something bigger. That said, if it does spark conversation, I’m all for it. I’d love to see more events prioritize the collector experience, and I’m always open to talking with other organizers who are on the fence. At the end of the day, I’m trying to build something that actually feels good to be a part of. Not just profitable. Not just hype. Something people enjoy. Hopefully this brings some more clarity to my decision making and I appreciate everyone who’s supported the vision so far! submitted by /u/feelgoodgaming1 to r/PokemonTCG [link] [comments]

How bad of an idea is lining my fence with sunchokes
Cannot afford a privacy fence but this neighbor has 6 aggressive dogs that terrorize my young children(and me!) while we are outside. I have a bucket and a half of Jerusalem artichoke tubers and access to free lilac bushes... how much would I regret lining the fence with sunchokes until the lilac bushes grow big enough? The dream is for the Lilacs to be a great privacy barrier but would take years to really be substantial. Not sure this is the right sub but I figure if anyone knows about aggressive spreaders like sunchokes it'll be you folks. submitted by /u/corriejude to r/Permaculture [link] [comments]

My neighbor refuses to pick up his dog's poop from my yard. The neighborhood has united against him.
My neighbor (probably in his early 70's) moved in next door about two years ago with a dog. The dog is kept indoors and my neighbor walks him at least once a day. Right away, the dog started pooping exclusively on my yard. Never once picked up. At one point the front portion of my yard looked like it was mud rather than grass. I tried being neighborly at first. Stopped him while he was walking the dog one day and politely asked if he'd mind picking up after since everyone else in the neighborhood does. Nothing changed. So I started getting a little more passive-aggressive, leaving poop bags in his mailbox with handwritten notes saying "just a friendly reminder to pick up your dog's poop." When that didn't work, I started picking it up myself and tossing the bagged poop onto his front porch. After about a year with no change, I called the cops. He's now been cited twice. His response? Paid the fines and got a second dog...which also now poops exclusively on my grass. I've pretty much given up on making it stop. The strangest part is that when he's mowing his lawn or driving by, he waves at me like everything's great. Our neighborhood is pretty tight-knit, so many neighbors help pick it up when they notice it on their walks. We've also recently formed what we're calling the "dog brigade," where nearly all dogs in the neighborhood poop exclusively in his yard. EDIT: Wow, thanks for all the awards!! To address some of the comments: To the at least two mail carriers who said they'd have reported me since I left poop bags in the mailbox with the notes: To be clear, they were unrolled, unused bags. I would never mess with our friendly local mail carrier! In fact, our mail carrier was somewhat in on it and would make sure the bags and notes stayed in his mailbox even after delivering the mail. A lot of people pointed out the photo shows the strip by the sidewalk. That's technically right, but I'm responsible for maintaining it per county ordinance and my actual deed. More importantly, my main yard is to the left of the sidewalk. When the photo was taken it had already been cleared, but the dogs regularly hit the front of the main yard too. A lot of the ideas for retribution are awesome! As others noted, though, I'm already on the cops' radar from filing complaints, so I have to be somewhat careful. Doesn't mean everything is off the table, the bacon grease suggestion in particular seems promising. “Maybe he’s a lonely old guy with back problems or dementia”: I think we can rule that out. It was literally the same afternoon the second citation was issued that he showed up with a second dog. And just like the first one, it somehow only poops in my yard. I could be wrong, but like some commenters, I also interpret the friendly wave while mowing his lawn as more of a passive-aggressive "f--- you" type of thing than a neighborly gesture. And while I've never had any other direct issue with him, he does actively avoid contact. If he's outside and sees me heading to the yard, he disappears. My yard faces his backyard. His property is fully fenced with an electronic gate, so you can’t walk onto it. I’m tall enough to see over it though. Back when I was tossing the bagged poop onto his front porch, the bags would sit there for about a week before disappearing one morning. I’m sure he knew it was me. I saw the curtains move more than a few times while tossing. The "dog brigade": For those asking, the brigade is going strong and still growing in strength and numbers. Because his yard is fenced, the dogs poop in the strip by the sidewalk in front of his house (similar to my pic) as well as in his driveway. There are now a bunch of tire tracks of poop in the pavement which, though admittedly petty, is very satisfying every time we walk by. Hasn't stopped the pooping yet, but we're in it for the long haul, ha. submitted by /u/nseavia71501 to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

Looking for a man to relocate to TN and start a mildly feral domesticated life together
ISO: Man willing to relocate to Middle Tennessee with me and build a peaceful, slightly feral domestic life. Important geographic note: TN is non-negotiable. My family is there and I am not negotiating with geography or genetics on this one. Shared vision: small house near water, fenced yard, chickens (names TBD but likely unhinged), and a garden we aggressively believe in. What you receive: legit home-cooked meals, clean laundry that mysteriously returns to drawers, zero criticism for excessive hunting/fishing/garage projects, and someone who thinks Tractor Supply is a date. Pet policy: must love dogs, must be emotionally prepared to love dogs. Due to catastrophic cat allergy, household cat count must remain at zero. Yes this is a loss. We grieve together and move on. Requirements: honest, kind, not an axe murderer, and willing to live near my extended family without panic. Bonus points: handy, enjoys bonfires, accepts that at least one chicken will outrank us socially. Edit: 4M+ views is actually insane to me. Thank you for the awards and all the kind comments — at this rate it’ll take me about 12 years to respond to everyone, but I’m genuinely grateful and reading as many as I can. Edit: To clarify — “genetics” = emotionally stable, physically capable, and not spiritually opposed to chickens.🐓 Edit 3: A lot of you suggested dating apps or documentaries… but I wouldn’t be opposed to a Netflix series lol Edit: I forgot a practical one. I’m 4’11 and occasionally need top-shelf assistance. 🪜 Edit: I am part of the 20% that can drive stick, thought I should throw that out there. Edit: I’ve thought about this long and hard and honestly I’d rather just run off with a few girls’ girls, become best friends, and raise chickens together. We’d technically be chicken tenders, which feels right in my soul. Status update as of March 9th: I’m still not in Tennessee yet. I had absolutely no idea my post would get this much attention. My inbox has been flooded, and I’m still slowly working my way through all the messages. If I haven’t responded yet, Im sorry! One unexpected side effect of this whole thing is that my vocabulary is expanding from all the reading I’ve been doing… apparently the road to Tennessee is paved with Reddit notifications. ⚠️🚗 Seriously though, thank you to everyone who has reached out with advice, encouragement, and stories. It means a lot more than you probably realize. Still working on the move… just currently buried in my inbox.📥 Small life update for everyone who’s been following: I randomly applied to a job in eastern Tennessee because it honestly sounded perfect for me. I didn’t think I’d hear anything back… but they actually called me. The catch? They don’t do remote interviews and I’m not anywhere near Tennessee right now 😢 So now I’m sitting here both excited and slightly tortured knowing I was this close… Still trying to figure out if there’s any way to make it happen, but I wanted to share the update because so many of you were rooting for me. submitted by /u/One-Crew-7642 to r/homestead [link] [comments]

Garden fence ideas
Hello, our neighbor is building a new house and as part of the construction, they demolished the old wooden fence and replaced it with a new one (made of wood-plastic composite). To be honest, I liked our old wooden fence better; it looked more natural and cozy. Now there is this large metal structure on our side. Do you have any ideas on how to improve this fence? Or is it fine as it is? We don't want to invest so much money in covering the fence on our side. I am also attaching photos of the previous state. submitted by /u/Blacksony99 to r/gardening [link] [comments]

Until I started reading BOLA I had no idea "spite fences" were a thing. Now I have to mentally wrestle with the idea of a "punishment haircut".

Any idea what this is attached to my fence? It's 2 pop bottle caps with a paper. Someone put this on my fence and some other people fences in my area. cylinder in between.
Asking for a friend. Can't think where to post this. Here is their included text: "Interesting from Chris Hardy- There was a 4 door small sedan. Maybe white or silver driving around attaching a weird small device to fences. I noticed it on a neighbors and the new construction property. We called the police and they took it as evidence. Did it to many other homes on as well. Attached to the bottom of a the fence. Looks like two bottle caps fused together w a paper thing inside. Very odd." submitted by /u/Whowouldvethought to r/homestead [link] [comments]

I am struggling financially but keep my home and yard neat. Not my neighbors, and I am hoping to find the least expensive but good looking privacy fence, 8 or 10 ft.. any thoughts? Bought a case for the switch lite I got for my sons birthday later this week. Had no idea the amazon driver yeeted it over the back fence, the dog opened it up and destroyed it, then I slipped and got my clothes caked in mud whilst retrieving it from the garden.
