Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me here. I've been eyeing the FightCamp home system (linked below) but I'm skeptical, since I've never heard of it. I tend not to trust reviews on the actual website, and the most recent activity on r/fightcamp is four years ago. Has anyone had experience with them? Good/bad/ugly? I recognize there are cheaper standing bags on the market, but I'm intrigued by their claim that it weighs 370 lbs when set up fully with sand. Not sure I've found another freestanding bag that can get that heavy. The ring it comes with also seems like it might help with sliding/shifting when you hit it hard? Beans, bullets, and bandaids are nice but that’s noob shit. Cardio. Canned food and other dried goods are very versatile and have a great shelf life if stored properly. Eat through your stored food and store what you eat. Have a plan on how to cook your food in a way that other starving people won’t see or smell. Knowledge. Light and sound discipline. Do you have 47 guns in your collection with 1000 rounds per gun? Great. You can only shoot one at a time. How often do you practice? Unless you have combat experience, plan on creating defensive positions and don’t run around kicking down doors. When SHTF, a single crack of a gun will alert desperate folks to your position. Don’t do that. Cardio. Are you a medical professional? Great. If not, I hate to break it to you but you can tourniquet and chest seal all you want but if you can’t get to a surgeon quickly, those things won’t help you. Not to mention that bacterial infection from when you cut yourself while sharpening your Rambo knife will kill you anyway because you don’t have antibiotics. Knowledge. 95% of your preps should be centered around staying in your place of residence. Only leave if you absolutely must. Know your escape routes and have a plan about where you’re going. Travel fast and light. You’re not going to build a log cabin and start a farm in the woods. Watch the show Alone and see how many of those survival experts would have died if not for a safety team. You won’t have a safety team. Cardio. Build a group of people you can trust. “I’m coming to your house if SHTF.” Uhh, no you’re not. Have a plan ahead of time. If your prepper group is focused on shooting and ferro rod fires, you’re not going to do well. Read books and run. You’ll be vastly more prepared if you have knowledge of how to do things BEFORE things get bad. If you’re out of shape, there’s no reason to have level IV plates and a suppressed AR. None of it is any good if someone headshots you from 150 yards with a 10/22 because you had to catch your breath. Practice your preps. Stop preparing for a civil war (you’ll most likely die anyway in that situation). Prepare to stay home and eat what you normally eat, just shelf stable versions. Light discipline, sound discipline, smell discipline. You made your house a fortress and everyone knows you’re there? Great. What’s the plan when someone throws a Molotov and burns down your house? Ahh, take off to the woods and survival camp! I’m tired after two days car camping with a cooler full of beer. Stop doing minimalist survivalist camping and look into what thru hikers use to spend long periods of time on trail. And guess what? They stay in hotels and hostels regularly to recharge and refuel. You won’t have that. Cardio. Go camping for 7 days with your bug out bag during hunting season and see how living off the land works out for you. Sick, hurt, and tired? Too bad. You will have no reprieve. So you’re kicked out of your house, in a national forest, and you’ve got your Dakota fire pit and low profile shelter. You see another group of people kitted out with guns and gear. What do you do? They’re only doing the same thing you are. Only trying to survival camp. Oh but we must establish a perimeter and detain these folks until we figure out if they’re friendlies! Really? Does that seem friendly from their point of view. Good luck with your gun fight. Cardio. Let’s start being realistic with our prep knowledge, gear, and plans. You’re not going to run around a war zone shooting people. You’re not going to survive for months in the woods living off the land. In a true SHTF event, you’re probably going to die. Prepare for that. Well this was new lmao. Let me tell. Went to Stormshore Tabernacle and naturally I looted every damn deity item from the basement. All my four party members get Castigated by Divinity condition, well no probs I'll just remove the curse later. Went to camp and casted healing for all my party members without thinking, which triggered the divinity curse and whoop eight Devas pop up in my camp. Combat ensues and all my buddies join the fight. "Awesome!" my first reaction, I get to fight these devas with my whole camp band. All who are not in my party, are controlled by AI. Also hanging at my camp at this point are Scratch, Duke Ravengard, Volo, Mizora, Yenna and her cat Grub, and two hirelings. They join the fight. Aight, this might get interesting. I'm excited to see how AI uses all these dear characters. It was utter chaos. Some notable mentions of this fight of a lifetime: Karlach hastened herself, then threw a grease bottle somewhere, used dash to run to the grease and slipped. Gale first moved away from the fight and turned himself invisible. Onwards, he just kept drinking health potions every round until the end, with full hp! Now that's just selfish. Halsin conjured Woodland Being, and apparently wasn't satisfied with his conjurations, as he conjured a new one every round. Devas main target for some reason was Mizora, who funnily enough cannot be damaged. She just popped out and back in when attacked. I panicked when I realized my boi Scratch was also fighting. Casted sanctuary on him which lasted a few rounds, then he decided to go bite a deva for 1 damage, and move away to get perma killed with an opportunity attack. :'( Minsc was stupider than I thought. He just went in circles dashing and casting Free Fall on everybody. Jaeheira used her first turn to attack the cat Grub (???). Why, I have no idea. Basically every turn, the characters used their bonus action to drink whatever potions they happened to have in their inventory. Yeah go ahead we don't need them. Karlach threw a bottle of alcohol at Tav. My hireling casted sanctuary on Wyll, who retaliates on his turn by blasting that hireling for some reason with all his Eldritch beams. Also Wyll, moves away from Deva next to him, gets opportunity attacked, goes to other Deva and stares him in the eye doing nothing, uses Dash to go back where he started, gets opportunity attacked by the other Deva too. Volo throwing unarmed punches like a sir, missing every time. Duke Ravengard was an absolute MVP. He knows nothing but swinging a sword so he actually used his turns to bonk the Devas. Eventually we clear the fight, not an easy one as each of the Devas had over 200hp. Though Scratch is dead. I was born in 1927 in Herne, Germany. To quote from my memoir, "I am a survivor of Nazi Germany during WW2. During my childhood I had to live 2 lives: a false public one as a loyal Nazi and my true one at home as a Jewish child in an anti-fascist family." Though both of my legal parents were German citizens, by biological father was Jewish. My family was always very open and accepting of others, and did not support fascism (but did what they needed to to survive). During WW2, we kept my heritage a secret. As a result, I was raised in the Hitler youth and trained as an anti-aircraft soldier. I was quite tall and desirable to the SS, but I had no interest in becoming one of them, so I volunteered to be in the anti-tank division once I was old enough to enlist. Though I fought as a German, I never believed in the war and waited for an opportunity to desert. When I was 17 a group of like-minded soldiers and I deserted and became POW in a British camp for 7 months. When the war ended, I returned to the secret family business of smuggling. The economic depression post-WW2 created an opportunity for my family to make money by illegally importing goods from surrounding countries (e.g. women's stockings from France). During this time I married my wife and had my first daughter. In 1955, my wife, daughter, and I moved to Montreal, Canada. I worked any job I could get, including work as a butcher (even though I was not trained as one), a gas station attendant, and a candy maker. In 1958 we moved to Thunder Bay where I worked in a factory, then as a logger. There I had 3 more children. My family and I eventually moved to Thompson, Manitoba so I could work in the mine. We had a good standard of living there (my wife was quite happy). We had a brand new home and plenty of extra income, but I saw no future for my children there. I lied to my wife, saying I had secured a job at the Britannia Beach mine and moved the entire family across Canada to Squamish, BC. I did end up getting a job in the mine, where I worked for a few months (until they went on strike). After that I worked in a pulp and paper mill (Woodfibre) for 25 years until my retirement. My wife passed away from cancer in 2001. Since then I have traveled extensively, remarried, and am living happily in BC. Our entire grade 10 class of 15 and 16-year-old students were placed in the anti-aircraft units. Soon I was made to join the tank division and after my training I was being sent on a suicide mission to blow up allied tanks. In order to avoid this I smashed my foot with a 100 pound boulder. I wanted the allies to win as I saw them as our liberators from an evil and brutal regime. I am very thankful that I escaped armed combat and never killed anyone during the war. Specifically soldiers that were in the middle of a fight or battle when the war ended, did they just awkwardly stare down the dude they were shooting at 20 minutes ago? Also what was packing up like? Did separate countries just watch the other pack up all of their stuff and just walk back? Sorry if my question is worded poorly or I come across as not knowing much about ww1.
