Landscapers drove through my front yard (East TN)
Following up from my original post last year, been working on the yard hoping to clean up some bare spots, watering to get some seed to grow in, fertilizing, aerated last month etc. https://www.reddit.com/r/lawncare/s/5uCHqACPew Neighbor is getting some landscaping in his backyard to fix some grading and drawing issues. Landscapers drove their bobcat and digger across my yard. How would yall go about amending this? WIBTAH if I put a post in my yard that could damage my neighbor’s truck?
My husband (29M) and I (28F) have lived in our home for over six years now. Our house is over 100 years old and we’ve slowly been making improvements when we can. When we got married my father-in-law gifted us landscaping for our front yard. We planned out what we wanted, talked to a landscaper, and he wanted to pay for it as a wedding present. The landscaping was completed over three years ago and we were very pleased and appreciative for such a great gift. The landscaping included a much needed retaining wall where there was a low patch in our front yard that previously turned into a mud pit when it rained. Fast forward to last year and our neighbors sold their house to a new owner. Almost immediately after she moved in she made it clear that she was going to be unpleasant to live next to. In the first week or so living there she came into our backyard and chopped the top off of one of our juniper bushes and threw it into our yard. The bushes were next to her garage, but clearly in our yard. It’s an old neighborhood and a lot of the garages were built long after the homes so everything behind the houses is very close together. Her garage is very close to the property line and maybe even a little bit on our property. We would’ve understood if she didn’t like the bushes. They were looking scraggly and landscaping for our backyard was next on our list for improvements. However, she gave no explanation and she hadn’t even introduced herself to us. I knew she did it because I could see her from my dining room window. We ended up clearing all three of the bushes out by her garage because they were unattractive (especially after having the top lopped off of one). About a week later she ran over our retaining wall with her lifted truck. It damaged the wall, but her truck is so tall it did no damage to her vehicle. Again, she never talked to us about it or apologized but I had seen her do it because I’m home all day. That summer we had the same landscaping company do work on our backyard so we asked them to add on a repair for the front yard retaining wall. The repair cost $100 and we paid it because we didn’t want a confrontation with our neighbor. One week after the wall was repaired she hit it again. Still we had no apology from her. We’re outside a lot, so we thought eventually she would approach us about it so we gave her time. She never did. One day I saw her walking her dog and came outside to discuss it. I just opened by saying that I wanted to talk about our retaining wall and she responded back by saying that she didn’t know how the wall was damaged. When I said I’d seen her run over it with her truck many times she started making excuses. She said the wall is too close to her driveway and that it could’ve been a delivery driver or any random person who used her driveway. I stayed firm. Initially, I was just going to ask her to pay for the next repair, but I decided that since she didn’t even apologize, I would ask her to reimburse us for the initial repair as well as the upcoming repair. She agreed, but said it wasn’t a big deal and she couldn’t make any promises she wouldn’t just hit it again. The wall was repaired again yesterday and this is the part that my husband says I would be the AH for. I put an ornamental iron post at the edge of our wall, but completely on our side of the property. That way it would be easier to see where the wall is, but if she hit the wall again she would also hit the post and it would probably damage her truck. My husband told me to take the post down. He said I was being vindictive and immature. I took it down immediately after I put it up, but I really want to prevent further damage to our property. I don’t want her to hit the wall again, but if she did hit it and our wall wasn’t the only thing being damaged I think she’d be less likely to do it again. So, would I be the AH if I put the post back? submitted by /u/SmellyChiChicken to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

Are we being unreasonable about our front yard? Need some perspective.
My partner and I are looking for an outsider's perspective on our situation. Our frustration has been brewing and we can no longer tell if we're being reasonable. We moved into our house around 2 years ago. It's our first house (we moved from an apartment) and we want to be decent neighbours. Our east side neighbours were never very friendly but we've always tried to be pleasant. From the time we moved in, the neighbours have stored their bins in our front yard. The front yard is a bit of a mess (we have plans to landscape it) but it's a natural mess (rocks, etc.). The people who used to live in our house didn't care if the neighbours stored their bins out the front, so we agreed that they can leave them there until we do the landscaping. But over the last couple of years, it kinda feels like they're stretching the friendship. They bought their kids rabbits and dumped them on our front lawn. They soon died, so they buried them in our front garden and bought two more. Last year, we came home to find them holding a party in our front yard. A bunch of kids trampled some of our new plants and left a mess for us to clean up. But it's just kids being kids.. so we tried to be understanding? Then they got a caravan at the start of the year and they've parked it directly outside our house. More recently, they've started literally dumping trash bags and junk out there. I've attached some photos for reference. One photo shows the property boundary line from above. The two vehicles and caravan in this photo both belong to our neighbours (they park opposite our house instead of using their own garage). One photo shows the party from the street. One photo shows this week's junk pile that we will probably have to clean up. Full disclosure: their house does not have much of a front yard because of the shape of the land... but that shouldn't mean that they can just use our front yard however they want? The front of their house always looks tidy. Ours feels like a junk yard/pet cemetery. I know it seems like minor issues but this is not ok, right? We'd really appreciate any opinions before we take any action. Thanks if you've read this far! submitted by /u/smallroundfeline to r/BadNeighbors [link] [comments]

Front + Backyard Landscaping for our 1st Home
My Wife and I purchased our first home last year and inherited an out-of-date, ugly front yard and dirt in the rear. With a new home, funds went elsewhere and delayed my landscaping makeover. I hunted around and got quotes from 4 different companies, but the one that felt right and met my budget was the crew over at FRESHSTART LANDSCAPING. Juan and David listened to my vision and provide amazing recommendations on the best plants, hardscape, turf with my exposures. The crew was great! Worked hard and got the job done as projected. One of the owners showed up everyday to check on the job and make sure things were running smooth. FreshStart Landscaping really gave me a Top Tier Treatment for a middle of the road cost! I would HIGHLY Recommend this landscaping company to anyone in the market! Our front yard sloped down from our sidewalk to the sidewalk in the street, and we were able to raise my front yard 2’ and level it off with a beautiful Gabion Wall! We extended the driveway with Pavers and put pavers in the backyard for the trash area with hog wire lattice and ivy to eventually hide the cans from view. I always wanted a Beaked Yucca and was able to get one with 7 heads on it for the price of a single head (I love saving money 🤑)!!! I could keep going, but Pictures are worth a thousand words…so check it out! submitted by /u/bigave1986 to r/vegaslocals [link] [comments]

Small Front Yard Overhaul - Desert Landscape with Dry Creek in SoCal
I spent the last few weekends in SoCal ahead of the spring time overhauling the last untouched part of my yard - transforming it from a low quality, ugly bush and weed stricken area, to a simple but eye catching desert landscape complete with a 25 foot long dry creek, desert vegetation and colorful succulents, a small front porch redo, and a few little extras along the way. I also further modified my parkway with extra materials and more desert landscaping to better tie the different parts of my yard together across three main areas. I did 100% of the design, clearing labor, disposal of old materials, minor house work (painting, stucco patchwork, etc.), irrigation updates, the woodworking projects, and everything in between. I bought about $325 worth of desert plants, was generously gifted from a buddy about $1000 in more mature agave and aloe plants from his property, and paid about $1100 for the crushed stone (two skid steer scoops) and river rock (one ton) + delivery. Any of the big river rocks or other statement rocks were collected and sourced from my folks property in the mountains for free on my own time. I paid about $50 in other woodworking and misc drip line / irrigation materials. I really love how this turned out; while you can't really see this area that well from the streets, walking by it to our front door everyday brings a huge smile to my face, and I'm very excited for all the plants to fill in over the next few weeks, months, and years. submitted by /u/oosoccerfreak to r/DIY [link] [comments]

Year 1 progress side and front yards.
Neighbor asked if he could put a concrete pad around his mailbox (it’s in our yard on the right) to walk on because of concerns about my new landscaping. I said no, I don’t want more concrete in my yard, I want more plants. I’m planting buffalo grass there. submitted by /u/Bullyfrogged to r/NoLawns [link] [comments]

9 years of progress: Our own private front yard garden
I started following this sub and it made me mindful of the progress we’ve made in converting our front yard from a dew-worm trenched lawn to the private oasis we enjoy today. My wife and I put in all of the time and effort to research plants, transport materials, water, fertilize, deweed, battle waves of pests and ultimately ENJOY our front yard space that makes the city feel not so much like the city. We staged our planting over several years to make it affordable and practical. We learned so much along the way and now we have a garden that matures around us more and more all the time. submitted by /u/dranzango to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Advice for center piece of front yard garden
Hey everyone! I’m working on a landscaping project for my front yard (zone 5b, Midwest) and could use some advice. I’ve drafted plans with various shrubs based of their mature sizes. In fact, all this planning has turned into analysis paralysis for me, so I’m turning to all of you with a design eye to help me out. The area can either have landscape lighting or uplighting. Stones will be all obsidian black, not the beige on the right. I’m torn about the center feature. Initially I was considering a limelight hydrangea but someone made a good point that it would only be green for a few months out of the year. The area is west facing so it would get afternoon sun. A fountain is an idea, though I don’t exactly have thousands of dollars for one and would prefer an evergreen shrub. I considered the Sea Green Juniper but it needs full sun therefore not the best. Also considered a holly shrub, and that is not ruled out yet but I have yet to find a good cultivar for it. If it helps, the bottom of the window is 6ft from the ground, so I am looking for something in the 4-7 ft height range that could tolerate part sun. What do you think would work best? Open to other suggestions too. Thanks! submitted by /u/Just_Author6769 to r/NativePlantGardening [link] [comments]

Informed this morning that all staff our meeting would be doing landscaping and yard work to "help out."
So for context, I have been working in a nursing home in medical records for about three months. This is a decent, clean, and relatively compassionate nursing home from the negative experiences I've had as a residents family member at one point. It started off that I was just doing the medical records in terms of filing, organizing, entering resident records to our online system, etc. Then a month in, my supervisor told everyone at our morning meeting without my prior knowledge, that she was excited to share that I would soon begin our AP work, gradually picking up more admin and accounting work. This was a shock to me, as I was new to my role in medical records and was not under the impression I would also be doing work to assist the accountant as well. So, I grinned and beared it, picking up an additional responsibility to my role. This was a month ago, I'm drowning in my work and if I ask for clarification on how to do something I was not trained or shown to do, I'm met with crickets and no one even pointing me to someone who can at least answer my questions. I've been frustrated and tired trying to manage this workload, having only been here three months and given tasks I was provided one day of training to do. Coupled with the stress of an understaffed facility, stress is rampant here. So, this morning, all department heads and administrative staff were informed at our daily meeting that we would be helping out for two days in a row next week doing lawn and landscaping work. We would be raking, digging, mulching, and cleaning up wherever they saw fit for the front yard and the properties land. We also were informed we should bring rakes and other tools to do the work, as well. Everyone in the room - the physical therapist, the nursing staff, other administrative staff - went quiet. Others seemed fine, as they had done this before for the facility it seemed. I sat there dumbfounded at having heard this. I do the medical records and recently accounts payable, but for two days in a row next week I would be expected to work outside and perform lawn and land work with our two maintenance staff. I just don't even understand how I've gotten here, how I've let myself be walked all over to this point and how people almost seemed okay with this expectation. This isn't some family business or nonprofit, where we break our backs for the well being of the business, which is dubious to say the least. I'm underpaid for the work I AM hired to actually do, let alone to work outside. I have bad knees and asthma, and my own responsibilities to do. I've been applying to jobs for a couple of weeks now and have even had three interviews. In no place in my job description does it say to do lawn or landscaping work. I'll be asking for a print out of my job description if given flack for not providing essentially free labor and giving my two weeks if pressed after that. I guess I was just too naive to think that worker exploitation was this close to home. Any advice is appreciated, but this was more of a rant then anything. Tldr: I've been working in medical records in a nursing home for three months, provided little to no training, informed I'd be doing AP more recently, drowning in work I barely understand and now told we all would be doing two days worth of lawn and landscaping work next week. *edit: fixed my spelling errors Just an edit!: I saw some folks had a few questions that I should have definitely specified when I originally made this post. I'm in Pennsylvania and this is definitely been a unique situation. The nursing home I work for was owned by a corporate that went bankrupt last year and is getting a new rebrand, but they've been very understaffed for multiple critical admin positions since I've started. Also, our direct HR person has been present for our meetings and has said nothing about the implications of injuries of "yard work" or landscaping on employee safety. All of these have been major red flags to me and I only remained because I've been struggling to find another commutable job since I live rurally. I've read everyone's comments and really appreciate the perspective! I'm taking it all into consideration. Either way, I'm strongly considering reporting this to OSHA. For now, I've requested a doctor's note specifying my asthma as concerns to not participate, which I will be providing to my HR. For now, I'm going to wait it out and see what happens after I provide them the note but I'm still actively applying for jobs and waiting to hear back on next steps for two jobs I'm in the interview process for. Thank you all for your kind words, it's nice to not feel alone! I'll make an update post depending on what the end result is :) submitted by /u/lovely_liability to r/antiwork [link] [comments]

Front Yard Design Feedback
Hello, I am trying to redo my front yard and wanted to get some feedback and advice. The area is roughly 40x20ft south facing and gets full Sun for 8+ hours. Northern California Zone 9b. I will not be using landscaping fabric as seen in the second picture. The first picture is a rough proposed design I made using iScape. Low water natives is a big priority, though not every plant on the list fits this exact mold. I used calscape.org as a resource. Here is a list of plants used: French Lavender (3) Yarrow Common (6) Cedar Mulch (1) Toyon (or Crepe Myrtle) (1) Giant Wildrye (3) California Poppies (6) Yarrow Moonshine (4) Milkweed Common (4) Other than a small corner of my backyard, this is my first time trying to plan a yard/garden area from scratch. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, from landscaping/gardening best practices to simple design or color choices. Thank you! submitted by /u/ProfessorPayne to r/landscaping [link] [comments]

Neighbor parks her car in front of our house daily. texted her Sunday about some landscaping we were having done this month. The landscapers had to ask her to move the car this morning and I got this.
At a loss as far as what to do. I feel like I have plenty of notice and I’ve tried being a good neighbor but they’re generally rude any time I’ve tried asking for them to move the car. submitted by /u/AsstRegMGMT to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

A branch fell in neighbors yard, he wants me to pay the landscapers bill and is threatening a lien on my property
A branch from a tree in my yard was weighed down with fruit and snapped at the trunk. Kind of a large branch, and did very little damage to his house. If I was there I would have cleaned it up myself as it is a neighborly thing to do, but I wasn't, and I told him I wouldn't be able to do it. So he hired a landscaper to clean it up on "urgency", claiming it was blocking a window that is an emergency exit, in a 1-story house, where the front door appears to be right by the room and was unblocked. It appears to me as though the landscaper over-charged him. In any case, he sent me the bill, expecting me to pay it. Then he threatened legal action if I don't. He is claiming it came down due to lack of maintenance on my property. He also says his company lawyers will file the paperwork and that he doesn't mind, claiming that I will be responsible for the lawyers fees as well. I asked for a number where I can call him that wasn't recorded so we could speak like neighbors. He ignored this, saying he has given me 30 days to take care of this. I left for vacation, and let him know I would not be available. That was a few weeks ago now and he just texted saying "we are filing next week for a lien against your property. This is in Oregon state. I'm beginning to wonder if this guy is delusional, or if my understanding of the law is way off - is there actually a possible way that his lawyer (if he even has one) can file such a lien? There has been no court judgement, or if there was, I was not aware. Is it possible for a court judgement been made without me, the property owner, being aware? submitted by /u/elessart to r/treelaw [link] [comments]

Neighbors’ kids in my front yard - Am I being crazy?!
Edit: Thank you for all of your comments and advice! I’m going to leave the landscaping and ignore them all completely. Hi all, I’m devastated. I moved into this 1950s townhome in a family-centered neighborhood last April. It’s my first home. I’m a single 24f with a small dog. It fit all of my needs. However, after moving in, I realized the neighborhood kids play in the front yard every day, using it as a playground field to play football, soccer and baseball. I’ve put up solar pathway lights that have been knocked down and broken so many times that I just gave up on them. The grass died and the ground was so compacted. This has been ruining my mental health. I heard balls bouncing whenever I got home from work and kids screaming constantly. My dad and I have asked the kids numerous times to please play somewhere else, only to be answered with them rudely saying no or that they can’t. Last week, I decided to have landscaping put in to try to deter them from playing in my front. (I’m an extremely anxious and non-confrontational person and didn’t want to have to talk to the parents about the issue). I had the landscapers remove the sod and render the soil, they put in 5 small redbud trees with 4 stakes around each them and some boulders, azaleas and barberry bushes- all with the sole purpose of keeping the kids out. My community association has no rules about landscaping. We aren’t allowed to have fences in the front of the house. After the landscaping was put in, I went to my parents’ house for a week for the holidays. When I returned, I was immediately confronted by my next door neighbor yelling at me saying that I had ruined the yard, that her husband and son will now have nowhere to “innocently” play baseball, she insulted my dad saying he was the one behind all of this, complained about my dog barking and told me that everyone hates me. She kept stating how she wished I had just come to her and told her I didn’t want the kids in my yard. While she did this, most of my others neighbors came outside and agreed with her. I apologized and told her I would have all of the landscaping removed, which will cost thousands of dollars.. I’m beyond devastated. I feel shunned and humiliated. A couple of days after she confronted me, I texted her and she shames me for having my parents come often and I guess she knows that they bought me the house. I’m the only single person on my block, the rest are families and seem to all be friends with each other and agree with this woman to hate me. What do I do?!??? Thanks for any advice! submitted by /u/tinyrhinobaby to r/homeowners [link] [comments]

TIFU by growing clover in our front yard and I’m never mowing again
TIFU because after some convincing, we grew a large patch of clover in our front yard. It started organically, but we decided to let it flourish. We loved the bumble bees that bounced around in the front yard and the beautiful butterflies that visited. It was nice to feel a little closer to nature. But yesterday we got a letter from our HOA saying that our “grass” needed to be mowed or it would be mowed for us and charged…blah blah blah. I ride the mower and my husband weed eats, and we are outside together, but he’s in the back yard. I mow over the edges of the clover patch which is about a quarter of our front yard; ten feet by six feet max, so not huge. I feel a little sad that the bees and butterflies won’t be back while I’m on the second pass. Just then I hear a thunk like I hit something. I immediate see a brown bunny, bloody, hop away really fast. I turned off the mower and run screaming to the back yard asking my husband to come help me find the bunny I just hit. I’m scared, shaking, crying. We look in the direction it ran and couldn’t find anything. My husband says he will finish mowing and for me to get my water bottle and go wash my face. Then grabs me and shoved me away from the direction he just told me to go! The thunk was a baby bunny. So tiny and cute and completely dead. My husband picks up it’s tiny bloody body and takes it to the back yard to bury it. I’m distraught. I’ve never killed any animal before in my life. I’m inconsolable. And it isn’t over. After my husband buried the bunny, we decided to call it a day on the yard work. We put off finishing mowing until today. I checked the bunny hole very well to see if there were any more babies in it. There were none. In a moment of sheer brilliance, I decide to take our 130 lb. Giant Schnauzer out to the front yard to sniff out any remaining bunnies from the remaining patch of clovers. My thinking was that she would run them out of the patch so we could finish mowing. Her name is Delilah and she is a certified good girl, and slow af. But I didn’t know that bunnies freeze when scared. She found a baby bunny, and chomped it reactively. She wasn’t trying to eat it (I don’t think) and both our screams scared her and she dropped it out of her big hairy muzzle. It was dead. She now sniffs the ground like a hunting dog every time she goes outside. I’ve never felt worse about anything I’ve ever done, and there’s nothing I can do to fix it except that I will never mow again. And I will certainly avoid growing clovers again. tldr: We grew some clovers for the bees and butterflies and ended up accidentally murdering a family of bunnies and turning our beautiful good girl into a rabbit dog. EDIT: I’m sorry to find that this is a common event. We lived here for 14 years and nothing like this has ever happened so I definitely did not expect it. I imagine the increase in bunnies is due to our neighborhood being mostly vacant for nearly two years due to hurricanes Laura and Delta destroying it. I really appreciate those who have been kind in their responses. It has been an excruciating two years. EDIT: I’m not sure why so many of you are angry at the HOA; they were just doing their job correctly. We could have put some landscaping around the clover and kept it if we wanted to, but it grew organically and was ill-placed. It was also meant to be temporary. We were prepared to mow it already as it was too tall and snakes are a hazard here (with lots of small children that play nearby). Our HOA board consists of an army of volunteers with tools, skills, and effort. I’m sorry many of you don’t seem to have the same experience with your HOA. EDIT: For those calling me dumb for not knowing what my dog would do, please read my post again. I took her out specifically to chase the bunnies out. I DID know what she would do, and I knew that she is far too slow on the take off to ever catch one. My mistake was assuming that the bunny would run away. It did not run away, and as I stated, I did not know bunnies freeze when scared. Before you comment on someone’s intellect, you should probably check your own comprehension skills. submitted by /u/SaltyBJ to r/tifu [link] [comments]

What should I do with the front yard in my new house?

A licensed landscaper and arborist, that I did not hire, came into my front yard and took it upon himself to cut majority of the lower limbs off of my 15 year old Silver Dollar Eucalyptus Tree. Is this destruction to property? Is this trespassing? I'm in Louisiana.
When I came home from picking my kids up from school yesterday, my 7 year old daughter (If that gives any clue to how drastically he changed it) asked me "where all the branches on our tree went?". When I looked at what once was a beautiful, full, weepy eucalyptus tree, there stood a wimpy, frail and freshly butchered tree. I was in disbelief. I work from home, so earlier that morning I heard my neighbors landscaper cutting their grass. He has been cutting their grass as long as I have rented the house which is going on 5 years now. I immediately thought of him, so I walked next door to the elderly couples house and asked if they thought their yard guy would take it upon himself to groom my tree. They both said no way, but they had cameras and would certainly look into it. Yesterday evening my neighbor came over to tell me it was her landscaper. The cameras didn't catch it, but she asked him, and he said he did it "because the branches were hitting him in the face when he passed by on the mower" and "he did us a favor". I was floored. She apologized and said she couldn't believe he took as much off as he did. The limbs he cut were at the base of the trunk, well into my yard. He cut limbs that have taken years to grow. He cut limbs that were not even pointing in the direction of my neighbors yard. He made 17 cuts that I can count! My landlord lives in Honduras, so we have very minimal contact. When I signed the lease I took over all yard upkeep. I have maintained all of the trees and flower beds, as well as the yard. I have been the one to groom the trees. I know this may seem silly to some, but this was a crazy beautiful tree guys. He completely aesthetically changed the look of the tree I have spent the past 5 years grooming. A tree she has spent 15 years caring for. Is there anything I can do? submitted by /u/fanciestofnancys420 to r/legaladvice [link] [comments]
