Graduation outfit
I‘m graduating high school in a week and still haven’t figured out what to wear. I’d rather not wear a full suit (but I’m open) since it’s hot and I don’t have one on hand but I’m not sure what to wear otherwise. It’s inside and the exact theme is “ Sunday best with dress shoes”. I don’t really know what that means since I don't attend church and when I asked for more clarification the dean of students says: “wear something that wouldn’t embarrass your grandparents” but none of my family really cares. Any ideas or help? edit: Thank you! I am wearing polos and khakis to my award ceremony, and dress pants and dress shirt to the graduation (no blazer, possible tie) submitted by /u/Spare-Toe327 to r/highschool [link] [comments]

AIO for putting a bag before a friendship?
Clara (35F) and I (33F) have been friends for roughly 9 years. She’s supported me through a major breakup, I supported her through financial issues, and we have basically been a pillar in one another’s lives for quite some time. Needless to say, there was a lot of trust there. Back in my 20’s, I bought myself a Louis Vuitton bag as a celebration for graduating uni. I’d use this bag whenever I felt I needed a confidence boost, because it made me feel like if I could handle uni, I could handle anything…I don’t know why, it’s just how my mind works I guess. Well this bag got quite a bit of wear and tear over the years (although I’d prefer to say she was well loved), and Clara offered to get it refurbished for me while she was on holiday in Paris. I was apprehensive, but she insisted that it was a gift for helping her get back on her feet. She took the bag with her to Paris, and I thought little of it, until I got a job interview and needed my little confidence boost to complete my outfit. That’s when I realised that Clara got back from Paris in January and I still didn’t have the bag. I called her up to ask where it was, thinking she’d probably forgotten about it - I mean, I had too - and she said it must be in her closet somewhere and that she’d dig it out. The interview wasn’t for a week, so I wasn’t worried. But then I heard nothing from her. No random TikToks in my DM’s, no questioning whether game night is a go ahead that weekend, nothing. After four days, I called her again and she said she’d be over that evening with the bag. Clara showed up, she handed me a Louis Vuitton box, and said she had to go…very unlike her because usually we’d catch up a bit. As I was getting ready for my interview, I opened the box, pulled the bag out of the dust thingy, and noticed something was off. The “leather” felt a little too raised, and the stitching seemed a little too bright. I didn’t have time to think about it just then, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the way it didn’t feel the same. So when I got home, I inspected it closely. The zips are scratching, some of the inner stitching is loose, and the heat stamp has no numbering on it (as it does on authentic pieces). This bag is fake. I called Clara, and asked her what happened with my bag, and she stammered saying that she has no idea what I mean. She said she’s outraged that the store did a bad job refurbishing, and that she’s going to call them to complain…I’m sorry what? This bag isn’t even real!! I called her out, and told her that if I didn’t have the real bag back by the end of the weekend, she’d be gone from my life. The deadline was 3 days ago, and Clara has been a ghost in the wind for almost a week. A couple of our mutuals say that I should keep the peace, while some others are outraged that she would essentially steal something sentimental. I can’t help feeling guilty because she’s been there through the thick and thin with me. So AIO for putting a bag before a friendship? TL;DR: Friend stole expensive bag with sentimentality, replaced with a fake, AIO for end my the friendship? Edit: The images are of the fake bag Second edit: UPDATE available here - https://www.reddit.com/r/tifu/s/9ooS9f5TZi submitted by /u/TheEllaBullet to r/AmIOverreacting [link] [comments]

Looking for graduation outfit ideas
My college graduation ceremony is coming up soon and I still don’t know what to wear 😭 My school doesn’t have an official dress code, but typically girls wear white dresses and guys wear a white button up w/ a tie and slacks. I don’t feel comfortable wearing a dress, and I want to wear something more exciting and heat-friendly than the button up and slacks. I was thinking about wearing some sort of short-sleeved blouse/formal top with pants or maybe a long skirt, but I also want to branch out of my usual formal attire and try something new and fun :) I’m here in search of suggestions that might work. I’m interested in any outfits that are more gender non-confirming: not too fem but not as boring as what men usually wear. submitted by /u/MysteriousEvent3694 to r/QueerWomenOfColor [link] [comments]

My dad is a creep. Ham pizza in Italy.
(Yes we’re biologically related I look like his twin which makes me hate myself even more) He hates me for being a girl and my entire life, despite living under the same roof, he said probably less than 1000 words to me besides hurling insults at me. I live in a HCOL city and cannot afford to move out. He constantly told me growing up that SOME people are predisposed to being a dumbass, and calls me a stupid bitch all the time despite needing me to help him with stuff. He ruined my high school graduation by screaming and fighting with my mom, refusing to take pictures with me, and that resulted in my mom throwing flowers he bought me reluctantly into the trash. And for my undergrad graduation, he refused to take pictures with me again, and my mother directed her anger towards me of course, and not her adult son. And the pictures taken were of him glaring at me like he wanted to kill me because SHE told him to stand next to me. I remember crying right after I graduated (I had two because I was in two separate programs in college) and both time she called me screaming that I ruined THEIR experience at MY graduation because I sat in the dining halls crying and refusing to eat with them, as happy families around were cheering their children on. I am dreading my masters graduation. Since I hit puberty, his gaze was… always off. I wear extremely baggy clothes and long pajama pants and sweatshirts even in the dead of summer when it’s 100 degrees outside. The only times I ever wear even a t shirt with my arms out is when I’m hanging out with friends. I literally strip off my sweatshirt in their car (we’re not religious or anything). I don’t wear shorts that go above my knees anymore. My friends joke that my collection of dad shorts and jean shorts make me pull up the functions like a butch lesbian every time. I used to wear shorter shorts until recently. Back in high school, he slut shamed me for wearing shorts in front of my family. They were halfway between my knees and butt, below where my fingertips reached. He started telling me that I was disgusting and he saw that when he went to pick me up. I remember clear as day even thought this was ten years ago, that there was a boy in salmon shorts of similar length standing NEXT TO ME in that pickup area. His argument was that “no one was wearing shorts but you which is why I am saying you shouldn’t wear shorts” which was NOT true. I remember screaming at the dinner table I’m going to tell everyone at school you’re a creep tomorrow and my mother hitting me hard on my head and my grandma jumping in to alleviate the situation. Last year, I went out for a jog in my Nike shorts. My legs are fairly short so it wasn’t like they were even that short on me. My dad sat on the porch, taking a call. I ran past him into the garage to get something, and kept seeing him take multiple peeks at my legs, and look down. I felt like throwing up. I felt so sick. And I feel disgusted even typing this out. When I am around him, even with thick sweatshirts on, even when it’s a billion degrees outside, I hunch over to not show any figure. I walk around the house hunched over and I only wear short sleeves around the house in the summer when he leaves. I freeze up when he walks close/behind me. I remember back in high school, there was a parent night, and this beautiful girl in my class was wearing a tube top and was supposed to give the parents in my class a tour. And I wanted to cry because I was so scared for her. I remember breathing a sigh of relief when our teach told us she couldn’t make it that night. My mom complains all the time that I don’t dress “beautifully” like other girls my age and she constantly says “YOUR DAD DOESNT CARE. YOURE OVERTHINKING”. Despite literally hearing creepy comments he’s made about me and other WOMEN my whole life. Once, she was so frustrated that she screamed in the car “WHY DO YOU TREAT YOUR POOR FATHER LIKE THIS? HAS HE SA YOU?!”. I’ve never told anyone and I just.. I feel so sick every time I think about this and I just want to cry. I love traveling because I can wear cutesy outfits overseas as far away from him as possible. Oh and his dad creeps me out too. My grandfather used to treat me really well until my teenage years and I couldn’t view him the same way again after he confirmed that my dad hates me because I’m not a son AND told me once that he could see into the bathroom when I was showering because the “blinds had a gap”. You could only see into the bathroom through the blinds if you literally stood and peeked in through a certain angle (they’re the Home Depot blinds with the drawstring thing that you can pull to flip) and I felt violated and couldn’t view him the same away again. I’m scared to tell people because my family will just accuse me of being a liar. Which is why every time I’m showering, I choose when my dad is the busiest because I’m scared he’ll look in as well (my house is weirdly shaped so his work area looks right at the bathroom window). And whenever he goes outside as I’m in the shower, I die a little bit on the inside. I patch the bathroom window with printer paper and my mother screams that I am mentally insane. I honestly might be. I refuse to date or consider marriage despite being at that age and my mom constantly curses me to find a husband as “loyal and perfect” as hers. I shudder at the idea of having a daughter and allowing her own father to sexualize her. Anyways, ham pizza from Italy. submitted by /u/deadlyparents to r/GirlDinnerDiaries [link] [comments]

Graduation outfit need accessory ideas?!?
Hey everybody, so I am graduating in three days. This is the dress that I chose in the shoes that I chose. Now I’m just kind of confused on what to add for accessories. I am wearing a Czech flag with an American flag stole with my gown for graduation. So any ideas would be appreciated. My shoes are very floral. I’m gonna post them. But I don’t know what else to wear. I’m not somebody who dresses up very often. I’m also wearing white shorts under this dress because it’s really windy up on my campus cause it’s like on a plateau so the wind just comes across it and I don’t want my dress flying up. So that’s the only thing I think I have to add. But any ideas for accessories or anything I can wear with this I’d be appreciative. thanks everybody. submitted by /u/Witch_Moon398 to r/OUTFITS [link] [comments]

Poor and got invited to WHITE TIE wedding
tl;dr I am a poor male graduate student who got invited to white tie wedding and cannot afford any of the attire. Is there anything I can wear that does not cost over $400? So, I am I guess what they would call lower middle class in the US, still paying off student loans, and one of my close friends from my undergraduate fraternity is apparently wealthy. Very wealthy, old-money European -- and I had no idea. I ended up invited to his destination wedding which is already expensive for me but the invite also said "strict white tie." After some googling I have come to the conclusion I cannot afford any of their dress code and am now baffled. Is there anything I can do, would it be terrible to show up in a regular suit I already have? Or should I just not go? EDIT: Ok, so given that I am now seeing words in this thread I have never seen before (what the fuck is facinator?) I messaged my buddy asking if he could lend me an outfit and he said he can have his mom get me something because he also apparently doesn't actually know what is involved. With the exception of the fact he had a really nice watch, he literally showed up in the free t-shirts from our program and jeans every single day I saw him at uni. Thank you to all for the feedback! I never realized how much stuff was involved in real white tie. I'll try to make it and network, like some of you have suggested whew. submitted by /u/Delicious_Tour8203 to r/Weddingattireapproval [link] [comments]

Custom Figure for Professionals: Office Outfit Ideas, Nameplate Bases, and Desk-Ready Display Concepts
A custom figure isn’t just a fun novelty—it can also be a classy, creative gift for professionals. Whether it’s for a retirement, promotion, graduation, or “just because,” a miniature sculpture dressed in career-specific attire is a powerful way to celebrate someone’s dedication and identity. Imagine a detailed 3D figure of a teacher holding a book, a doctor in scrubs, or an engineer with a hard hat—all ready to stand proudly on a desk or shelf. The outfit is where the story begins. Office-friendly attire like suits, blazers, scrubs, lab coats, uniforms, or even industry-specific accessories like stethoscopes, clipboards, laptops, or tool belts can all be added to match the profession. For creative roles, consider adding headphones for audio engineers, paintbrushes for artists, or cameras for content creators. These small details bring a level of charm and realism that makes each figure feel deeply personal. Adding a nameplate base takes it to the next level. You can include the person’s name, job title, years of service, or even a short quote that defines their work ethic. Think of it like a mini trophy—but better. The base itself can be sleek and modern for an executive look, or styled with texture and color that reflects the person’s personality. A wood-look base adds warmth, while a metallic finish brings a touch of elegance. As for display? These figures are perfect for desks, bookshelves, or even reception areas. They don’t just sit there—they spark conversation. Place them near business cards, awards, or framed photos for a cohesive display. Want something more eye-catching? Pair the figure with a small acrylic case or place it on a rotating stand for subtle movement and visibility. Ordering a custom figure for a professional is a unique way to say “I see you and everything you’ve achieved.” It’s thoughtful, personal, and totally out of the box—literally. Whether you're honoring a colleague, mentor, or yourself, it’s the kind of gift that won’t be forgotten. And let’s be honest—who wouldn’t want to see themselves as a perfectly dressed mini figure, ready to take on the day from their desktop throne? submitted by /u/theonlineforyou to r/InfiniteContent [link] [comments]

Complex dress codes + international destination wedding
This past November, my husband's good friend from college got married to his now wife and had a destination wedding abroad. We attended, because why not! My husband would get to see his friends from college (who he rarely sees since he moved after graduation) and we'd get to explore a new country. We had the means, although we budgeted for a while to make sure we could comfortably make the trip. Part of that budget was due to it being a black tie wedding, which was strictly spelled out on both the invite and wedding website. The rehearsal dinner was also a formal event. My husband and I do not go to many black tie events in general, so we had to rent a tux and purchase a gown and shoes for me. He also got some new dress shoes for the rehearsal and I got a dress for that as well. We arrived in the country about three days before the wedding. We were looking forward to exploring the area, connecting with husband's old friends, and meeting others attending the wedding (almost all guests were staying in our hotel). When we arrived to our hotel room, a wedding information card was waiting for us. It turns out that the events before the wedding were different than what was described on the wedding website. The formal rehearsal dinner had a strict color scheme (not mentioned on the site). And there was an additional event on the very next day that was not mentioned on the site at all, with a formal dress code and its own specific color scheme. I could rustle together outfits for both events that would *sort of* work from what I had brought, but my husband could not. The outfit he'd selected for the rehearsal dinner was pretty much exactly the opposite of what the couple had requested. He'd also packed pretty light in general so we'd have room in the luggage for souvenirs (and the required tux took up a decent amount of room). Once we got settled in our room, we went down to the hotel bar where the couple had invited guests to stop by, have a drink, and mingle. After saying our hellos to the couple, the groom mentioned to us to make sure to follow the dress codes. My husband responded that he didn't have anything appropriate for the pre-wedding events, and the groom said not to worry, because there was a mall a few blocks away. He mentioned that a few of the other guests were planning on going there the next day and we could join them. We nixed the hike we'd planned the next day to join the group of guests travelling to the mall. I was a little disappointed, but exploring a mall in a new country was still an exciting idea! Plus, the first event was that night, and I wanted my husband to feel comfortable and not worry about being dressed inappropriately. There were about 8 of us going - a few we didn't know, and a few college acquaintances of my husband's. I was looking forward to getting to know them all, and everyone was cool. For some background, most of the guys in our group, including my husband, were big, athletic dudes (the groom had met most of his friends through playing sports). Not obese, just large framed and tall. The country we were in generally has a much shorter average height and weight than the US. (During our time there, I saw very few men over six feet tall other than tourists.) This made shopping for "big and tall" formal shirts and pants a huge challenge for almost all the guys in our group. We ended up spending a very, very long time at that mall. I managed to get a dress that fit the rehearsal color scheme better, so that was nice. But the excursion took up most of our day. Some of the guys, including my husband, had to settle for clothes that were too small, but fit well enough to be wearable once. We didn't get back to the hotel until about an hour before the event, so we had to rush to shower and get ready in order to make it to the shuttle. (We had to use the shuttle, as ubers are hard to get in this particular country, and cabs can be dangerous. Public transport could also be dangerous at night, and did not go to the location of this event). All in all, the wedding and other events were a TON of fun, and I thought the couple provided their guests with an awesome time. They are good people, and I was happy to be able to celebrate with them. I was just left scratching my head at their dress code choices. Oh, and every event was majority outdoors. Indoor spaces were open, and used ceiling fans but not AC. Since it was a tropical country, it was quite hot in November. I was glad I picked flowy dresses to wear, but those guys in their too-tight shirts were SWEATING. submitted by /u/LavenderAqua to r/weddingshaming [link] [comments]

Graduation Outfit Suggestions
Salam Sisters, I’m graduating soon insha’allah. I am looking for something to wear but struggling to find something fancy and modest. I’m based in Europe. I was thinking of a suit set, like a fancy blazer (not just plain work normal) and wide leg pants or a skirt. If anyone has any shop websites recommendations where I can find a fit please let me know. Or even if you have any outfit ideas I’ll gladly take any suggestions. I had already worn a really pretty dress for my bachelor’s graduation so I thought I could switch it up a bit for my master’s grad. submitted by /u/No_Sys2431 to r/muslimgirlswithtaste [link] [comments]

OOP wants to wear a suit to her wedding.
I am not OOP. OOP is u/suitupwoman Mood spoiler: sad Original post was made on AITA on November 10, 2019: AITA for wanting to wear a suit for my wedding? For my high school graduation, I received a tailored suit. Before then, I had been a chronic t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, having one ugly black dress to wear for weddings/funerals/parties/bar mitzvas/general events. I hated it, hated making an effort to dress up, and even now, I still really don't like skirts or dresses at all. But I absolutely fell in love with the way I looked in a suit. I wore that suit like it was a second skin. Since then, I have been a little obsessed with "men's fashion". I have at least a dozen suits, of various models, fabrics and colours: All of them are bespoke, meaning that they were made from scratch and personally fitted, which is admittedly rather expensive, but I use them frequently, both for work and socially, and take very good care of them. None of them are what you would call a women's pantsuit, as I'm not very fond of the cut; but simply regular suits tailored to my figure. My fiance, of about 5 years, normally doesn't comment much on my style: There used to be some arguments in the beginning, where he would buy me skirts or earrings as gifts (I don't even have pierced ears), but eventually he accepted the fact that I'd have more use of a good pair of cufflinks or a ring or just pretty much anything else. We have booked the venue for our wedding on a date a little over a year from now, and we've been throwing around some wedding ideas here and there. Yesterday, I asked him if he had any ideas about what kind of suit he wanted: He doesn't really care about fashion and normally let's me dress him, but I wanted to know if I should book my regular tailor for both of us or not, so that we could perhaps go get fitted together. Make a day of it, you know. My fiance was very shocked that I wasn't going to get a wedding dress. I was very shocked that he thought I would, since I haven't worn a dress in at least 10 years. We've been arguing since last night, and neither of us have really calmed down yet. He is furious that I wouldn't even wear a dress for a single day for our wedding, and claims that our wedding would look ridiculous if I had a suit. As if he "was marrying a lesbian in denial" and that all he wanted was "a wedding with a beautiful bride". I told him that he should wear the dress, so that I didn't "have to a have a wedding with an ugly groom." We tried to talk it out earlier today, but we were still too mad to get anywhere, so we've decided to not bring it up right now. But I know he hasn't changed his opinion, and obviously neither have I. I have always wanted to wear a suit for my wedding, and even if it's just for a day, I would still have a bunch of photos and memories, probably even the dress, so I wouldn't just forget that I couldn't have the wedding I wanted. AITA? Relevant comment (which was also the highest upvoted): I don't think you should marry someone who hates your choice of fashion. INFO: Why hasn't this come up sooner? OOP's response: ...I'm pretty sure it has? I used to send him a lot of wedding pictures, including women getting married in suits, but since, well, they were all lesbian weddings, I guess he thought it was more of a "Aren't weddings nice?" kind of thing, rather than a "This image applies to me, even though I intend to marry you, a man." Maybe he didn't think I was serious until I started talking about booking a suit-fitting. Another comment from OOP: It's not like I spoke in rebuses: I would send him an email labelled something like "Wedding venue ideas", with a dozen pictures of venues, or an email called "Ideas for wedding outfits", with a bunch of suits. Men in suits, women in suits. No dresses. Not even incidentally: I cropped them out. Just suits. OOP attempted to post an update the next day, on November 11th, 2019, but this was removed. However, their original post was subsequently edited to add: UPDATE: I decided on suggesting that I wear a dress for a while during the wedding, before changing to a suit, so we had a talk after dinner. Long story short: He hates my suits. Hates them. I think I kind of knew already that he didn't like them, or at least he's never complimented me, but he absolutely hates them. Hates that I don't have any feminine clothing, hates that I never pierced my ears, hates that I don't wear makeup very often and that I don't really shave my legs regularly and that I don't have any nice bras and that none of my hobbies are very feminine. Hates that I only look like a woman when I'm naked. We didn't raise our voices, we didn't shout. I just listened as he calmly told me how much of me that he hates. The fact that I didn't want a dress for our wedding was just the last nail in the coffin, and it proved that I would never get any better. submitted by /u/autistichalsin to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

An update almost 10 years later: Me [24 M] with my gf [23 F] Girlfriend has princess syndrome
I am NOT the Original Poster. That is u/red563. He posted in r/relationships. Mood Spoiler: growth Original Post: August 12, 2014 Throwaway because my main can be connected to my girlfriend's blog. I have been with my girlfriend for about 5 months. We've been casual friends since college, but only began dating after she graduated. We get along really well. When I say princess syndrome, I don't mean that she is spoiled or entitled, because she isn't. Her clothes seem to take over her life. She dresses like a sort of fairytale princess on a near daily basis, excluding at work. Long, frilly skirts, lacey blouses, things like that. It works for her because she is very pretty and can pull it off. At first I found it to be very endearing, but then I became aware of how much time she spends on her outfits. She runs a blog that has a sizeable amount of followers, and she is constantly posting outfit pictures, links to clothing items, and what not. She spends a few hours a day on her blog, at least. Then she spends time sewing items for new outfits or for her etsy store. When we go out, we get a lot of stares at what she's wearing. I've also caught people sneaking pictures of her on their cell phones. This attention makes me uncomfortable. I have asked her to tone it down a bit, but she took that to mean not wearing anything in her hair when we're out together. I have told her several times that I love her just the way she is, but she seems to brush it off. I had hoped when she started her new job in the career of her choice that she would become more serious, but her new boss and co-workers encourage her. I worry that people won't take her seriously, or miss how kind and intelligent she is. How can I talk to her about dressing more appropriately without hurting her feelings? tl;dr: Girlfriend dresses like a princess, how do I talk to her about it? Relevant Comments: Commenter: Sounds like you have to get over your insecurities. This is her hobby, her interest, and she's getting positive reactions. You shouldn't be trying to change her, especially when it was something that initially drew you to her. OOP: I guess I'm having trouble seeing clothing as a hobby? I play video games as a hobby, but that doesn't cause strangers to take pictures of me when I'm trying to shop at the supermarket. I get your point that it initially drew me to her, because it did. That's fair. I guess I didn't think that it would be such a constant thing in her life, especially after she graduated. Commenter: So, you love her just the way she is but you're assuming she'll take that to mean she should change how she is? That doesn't make sense. This IS how she is. She enjoys dressing up like this. Shit, she posts outfit photos online because she enjoys it so much. Other people encourage her because they DO like how she is. If you don't like the attention ask her sometime to just go out with you while she's wearing a casual outfit, but keep in mind that she already loves what she's normally wearing. OOP: This is my problem! How do I ask her to dress more casually around me without her misinterpreting what I mean again AND also not hurting her feelings? I can think of ways to say one half of that, but it doesn't work with the other half. Commenter: If you love her the way she is, why do you want her to change? Just curious. OOP: She doesn't need all the frilly stuff, she'd still look like a princess. And it's one thing for an artsy college student to dress alternatively, but she's a 23 year old woman now. I feel like her clothing masks how smart she is and makes her appear shallow. Is it for attention? I do think it's an attention thing. She says she doesn't care about what people think about her, but she spends so much time on her blog, replying to comments and such, I kind of doubt it. She also has told me that she loves being approached by little girls while she's dressed up, which definitely makes me think it's about attention. She doesn't dress inappropriately by those standards, she is well groomed and doesn't show much skin. But is it appropriate to wear lacey dresses and flower crowns to the supermarket. Again, it attracts unnecessary attention. Update Post 1: August 23, 2014 (11 days later) I didn't plan on updating, but things changed. I realized from my last post that I needed to be more supportive, but also communicate on how she could dress down on certain occasions so we could both be comfortable. Well, I never got a chance to talk to her about it. Last week she called and wanted to stop by my apartment after work. When she got there I offered to make dinner, but she said she couldn't stay and we had to talk. I jokingly asked if she was breaking up with me, and she looked really guilty. You can see where this is going. We talked about how we were in different places in life and had different goals for the future. Well, she talked, but I agreed. It was a pretty amicable break up, even though I felt blindsided. We agreed to stay friends. I've never been dumped before, and it's fucking awful. I'm having trouble with the whole social media thing post break up. I want a way to keep in touch with her, but as soon as her relationship status changed all these "alternative" looking guys have been liking her posts and commenting on her pictures. I don't think she's seeing these guys, but it still hurts. My friend wants to set me up on a date, but I don't know if it's a good idea. Relevant Comments: Commenter: Fickle is the head that wears the flowered lace crown. It was never going to work out, anyway. You had some laughs and some good times, enjoy that and move on. OOP: I understood some of her reasoning. Mainly, I want to move out of the city once my lease is up, and I wanted her to move in with me. I was worried about long distance. She didn't want to leave the city, though. She said something about me be controlling, too, but I don't think that's the case at all. Block her: We agreed to stay friends, so I don't want to block her. Update Post 2: April 4, 2024 (9 years, 8 months later) I was going through an old email and found this account again. I was surprised I could still log in, and even more by the amount of people who had reached out to me. It's a bit embarrassing to relive this break up from almost 10 years ago. In retrospect, it wasn't meant to be and I think I was reeling more from getting dumped than the loss of the relationship. I am 33 now and married to a wonderful woman (31F) for 4 years. I learned my lesson about supporting my significant other's hobbies. My wife loves running and baking. We have a daughter who is turning 3 this year. I want her to be free to express herself how she likes (as long as it is safe, of course!). I would do anything for them. I am still friends with my ex on social media. We don't talk but will "like" each other's posts. She is married to another woman now who also dresses differently. It's not as frilly as she used to dress, but still unusual. Her pictures look like something out of Anne of Green Gables. She seems very happy on their farm together. TL;DR: Was dumb in my early 20s. Got over an old break up and now I am married and happily supporting my wife's hobbies. Relevant Comment: Commenter: Can we expect an update in 10 years when your daughter has become a teenager and developed princess syndrome? Also congratulations on your life. OOP: Well, she does love pink and purple! submitted by /u/LucyAriaRose to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

What is "fashionable" in 2022? I think I am lost
Caution: The following paragraphs are confused ramblings from an old fart (34) who doesn't know how fashion works anymore. I was an avid follower of MFA when I was in grad school in 2012-2014, which is how my current style got formed. This was the time when the hivemind was so unanimous about "good outfits" that the tongue-in-cheek Basic Bastard uniform was created. Everybody else dressed like lumberjacks that have developed a taste for slim fits. A lot of my opinions (and purchases) were informed by the discussions and WAYWT-threads and so I bought my pair of Clark's Desert Boots, Levi's 511 Rigid Dragons, navy Pea Coat etc. After about two years I felt that I had developed a solid eye for style and so my interest for this sub waned. After all, you can only look at so many guys rocking Uniqlo OCBD shirts (slim fit, light blue) in the WAYWT-threads before it gets very repetitive. But that was ok, the community saw themselves explicitly as a place for beginners to learn the essentials of dressing well, and users with more "out there" or artistic tastes sooner or later graduated to /r/malefashion or StyleForum. From 2014 to now I finished school, started a job, built a house, had a son, planted a tree... in short: Did a lot of other things with my life besides thinking about clothing. Somehow, a couple weeks back I remembered this sub and went back to have a look. After checking pretty much every WAYWT-thread since then I can confidently say: I have no idea how fashion works in 2022 anymore. I don't mean that I dislike everything I see here, I literally mean I cannot judge if I like a fit or not at this point! Take the most-upvoted fit from 2013 for example: I could confidently say that it's a well put-together outfit because the colors match, the textures are interesting and most of all, the clothes fit just right: The shirt is slim but not tight, the seams are at the shoulders, the pants have the right length (with that neat little cuff that everybody was so into at that time) and so on. Contrast that with a lot of the most-upvoted fits from recent WAYWT-threads (apologies in advance, no offense intended): Like this - How can we decide if items "fit" well when so many tops are baggy nowadays and pants all seem too short? Has the definition of fit completely changed... or is "fit" just not important anymore today? What makes this outfit good? Or this one. An upscale English tweed coat with a sweatsuit? Is that clash of levels of formality tongue-in-cheek or does the wearer not care? I see a lot of traditional coats this season with hoodies underneath. Is this considered appealing? Or this one - What makes this a put-together outfit at all? To me it looks literally like a bunch of items thrown together completely randomly, I cannot see any concept behind that fit.. What am I missing? I hope no one feels offended or called out by this! I have to say I love that people are much more expressive in their style choices than they seemed to be in 2012-2014 and don't take things too seriously. I am just really confused about what makes a "good" outfit nowadays. -- EDIT: It looks like there are two camps in this sub: Those that want to learn the skill to dress well, just like many folks learn to cook good just good enough to feed themselves or to do some car maintenance for basic issues. Those were dominating in 2012-2014, when this forum was 90% self-help posts. And on the other hand there are those that treat fashion as a hobby, a form of self expression, a group that is much stronger today. And those two groups don't neccessarily have good things to say to each other. There is a lot of good discussion in this threat but some posts have a condescending tone about the other side ("All modern fashion is baaaad and those 2022-kids look ridiculous" vs "Those 2012-folks looked boring and are out of touch!"). I hope I made it very clear in my original post that I don't want to complain about nowadays WAYWT-posts! I am genuinely baffled by the choices some people make for their outfits and hope to understand them better. Love you all guys and no matter whether you're a young whippersnapper or a mid-30s geezer like me: You do you! submitted by /u/Aktikus to r/malefashionadvice [link] [comments]
