Effective Treatment: hydrocortisone 2.5% + ketoconazole reddit
Just wanted to share this discovery because it might help someone in the same situation. I was recently diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. At first, my physician thought it was ringworm or psoriasis, so I was treated for ringworm. While the treatment helped a bit, the rash around my nose never fully went away. It eventually got worse, and I saw no improvement despite continuing to use the cream. Hydrocortisone had typically worked for past eczema flare-ups I’ve had on my neck. The treatment that finally worked for me was hydrocortisone 2.5% combined with ketoconazole. I also started using Cetaphil bar soap, gently exfoliating my face with a washcloth, and applying a dermatologist-approved moisturizer. This routine worked surprisingly fast, and my flare-up went away in almost two days after months of little to no improvement. For reference, I have darker skin and don’t have dandruff on my scalp, but I do get flare-ups around the edges of my scalp and near my nose. It's still early days so I'll update if this worked long-term. submitted by /u/OwlBoth9889 to r/SebDerm [link] [comments]

Ketoconazole 2% and Hydrocortisone USP 2.5%
Hi! My dermatologist gave me ketoconazole shampoo and cream as well as hydrocortisone cream and I’m wondering how the creams should be applied? I use the shampoo once a week and shave been using it for almost 2 years now and it keeps the flaking and itchiness in check pretty well but as for the creams… I’m at a loss. I have only really used them a total of 5 times?? Over the 2 years my dermatologist has been prescribing them and I had understood that I was to apply them at the same time. I always start with the ketoconazole and then the hydrocortisone but when I get to the second one it starts to pill up on my skin as I’m trying to work it into my skin. I also don’t know if this is really what’s right for me. I deal with lots of dry patches in my t-zone, nose and surrounding area, and chin as well as really large, deep black heads on my nose. I’ll have smaller black heads on the chin and forehead but those are manageable. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong or right with these products. Please help! submitted by /u/Barista_w_attitude to r/SebDerm [link] [comments]

Huge breakout after ketoconazole 2% cream. Is this normal?
I was given a prescription for ketoconazole by my dermatologist and used it for the first time yesterday morning. When I removed my foundation I was shocked to see that I had had a massive flare consisting of redness and warmth along with dozens of pustules on the areas of my face where I had applied the cream. Could this be a symptom of some kind of die off reaction? submitted by /u/Third_CuIture_Kid to r/Fungalacne [link] [comments]

Nizoral 2% Cream & Worsened Dry, Flaky Skin
I was prescribed Nizoral 2% cream by my GP for suspected seborrhoeic dermatitis and advised to keep my routine very simple with a gentle cleanser and lightweight moisturiser. I have ordered products that are more appropriate and barrier supportive but still lightweight and in line with seb derm recommendations. In the meantime, since starting the ketoconazole cream my skin has become much drier, tighter and more sensitive. Products sting on application, flakes seem worse, and my skin is quite sore. My skin also looks very dehydrated and more lined than before, which has been upsetting as skin health matters to me a lot. I’m wondering whether this level of dryness and sensitivity is a common early reaction to ketoconazole and whether others found things improved with time. Any advice on supporting the skin barrier during treatment would be really appreciated. Thank you! submitted by /u/iceprincess64 to r/SebDerm [link] [comments]

Chronic nasal fold dermatitis (seb derm??) flares even on ketoconazole 2% cream, need advice
I’ve had seborrhoeic dermatitis in my nasal folds for about 2 years (also eyebrows + scalp/hairline). It improves then randomly flares again Right now I’m using ketoconazole 2% cream (Nizoral) once daily (about 7 days so far). It calmed it down after 4 days, then I suddenly flare red/hot/itchy again and my scalp flares at the same time. No burning, just itch/heat/redness I’m also on oral antifungal tablets daily for a month (GP prescribed) Important: the photo is during a flare with the Nizoral cream sitting on top, so it looks shiny Skin barrier: the fold skin feels raw/damaged. “Repair” creams don’t really absorb, they just sit there Cleansing: I used Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser for months but it eventually started making the area peel/worse, so I stopped. Now I mostly use water only because cleansers make it feel raw Moisturiser: I use Cetaphil moisturiser occasionally, and sometimes a Uriage repair cream Past treatments: Elidel made it peel after a few weeks and didn’t help Antifungal + steroid cream helped short-term but steroids made it worse long-term At first the doctor thought it was rosacea, so it was getting the wrong treatment for weeks. Triggers I’m noticing: Cold weather/heating indoors, stress and possibly heat/steam (bath) or LED mask that I just tried recently, but the flare happened several hours after What’s the best routine when ketoconazole helps but flares keep happening? Do you push through once daily vs twice daily, add something like zinc/pyrithione, or focus more on barrier? Thanks submitted by /u/georgiiax to r/SebDerm [link] [comments]

Great success with ketoconazole cream
Back in the day, I used to have pretty bad SD breakouts on my skin, but then I started using ketoconazole cream and I haven't really had a breakout in 10 years or so. When I forget to use the cream for a few weeks, some redness and flakiness will come back eventually, but I know how to make it go away. So, the brand I use is Nizoral with a ketoconazole content of 2%, and here's how to use it: Apply to the affected areas Wait a few minutes Wash off thoroughly The last part is especially important because the cream can cause redness and pain, especially if you're in the middle of a breakout. If you don't wash it off in time, it can appear as if the cream is making your outbreak even worse. That's why I stopped using it initially. Big mistake. 5 minutes might be enough, but if your skin is getting better, you can slowly increase it to 15 minutes or so. At the start, you can use it daily until the outbreak is over. After that, once or twice a week should be fine to prevent outbreaks. In any case, try to start slowly and prepare for an initial worsening of the redness. Good luck. submitted by /u/EuphoricSide8464 to r/SebDerm [link] [comments]

People with fungal issues : can you handle ketoconazole cream ?
I have face flares as a side effect of Dupixent and I know they are fungal because ketoconazole 2% (cream) works great on them. It makes the inflammation disappear in a matter of hours. However, it's not the miracle treatment I thought it would be... Because my skin can't handle it for more than 2 days. If I use it 1x per day, 3 days in a row, the small bumps on the patch will start weeping on the third day like clockwork, right after applying a thin layer of keto cream. I thought it was because my skin barrier was too damaged and I spent a full month not using antifungals, fixing my skin barrier with heavy repairing creams etc, but when I tried again I had the same result. My routine is very minimalist, nothing harsh, only cleansing with thermal water etc... It's a bit of a niche problem, anyone else has this ? Doctors say you need to treat fungal patches with keto cream for 2 weeks but I'm unable to do so, and the patches never really disappear. I use tacrolimus in the meantime but it doesn't work perfectly. submitted by /u/Dermatislay to r/eczema [link] [comments]

Ketoconazole 2% and seborrheic dermatitis questions.
Hey there. My dermatologist prescribed me ketoconazole 2% shampoo and cream for my problem in my beard, moustache, eyebrows, nose and ears itching and redness problem. I started 3 days ago and I didn’t see any visual improvement, maybe the itching is less but the redness and flaking is bad. Is this normal? The dryness of my nose and eyebrow is more noticeable than before. The protocol is keto shampoo 3x week and the keto cream all over the affected area 2x day. I put some keto cream on my ear (outside the canal) and it was so itchy at night, 2 hours after I applied the cream. How long takes to start seeing improvements? Thank you. submitted by /u/OldRaise5671 to r/DermatologyQuestions [link] [comments]

Using 2% hydrocortisone steroid cream for vulvar dermatitis
I’ve been dealing with this red splotchy irritation on in between my labia minora and majora for a month/month1/2 after using ketoconazole for an external yeast infection for 2 weeks and a week after that . Don’t remember the exact dates. My gyno kept telling me it was from excess moisture or friction. But I felt it couldn’t just be that. I’m yeast free btw , I also had two anerobic swabs done on the area in question and they both came back with “moderate growth of routine flora” no candida apparently. I went to the dermatologist and she thought it was a form of contact dermatitis or dermatitis in general and prescribed me a 2% hydrocortisone steroid to use twice a day for two weeks. Has anyone had any success from this? I worry about worsening things or getting another yeast infection from the cream. No horror stories please. Thank you!🙏🏻 Edit: she also told me after the two weeks to take a week break , if it didn’t help. To use it for another two weeks. I’m afraid to do so for fear of thinning my already sensitive vulvar skin. And the possibility of another external yeast infection. Thoughts on this? Should I call about my concerns? submitted by /u/Kittkatt101 to r/Healthyhooha [link] [comments]

Ketoconazole Cream Effectiveness?
Hi everyone! I’m giving an update and asking for input since being prescribed ketoconazole cream 2.5 weeks ago for confirmed fungal acne on upper back. I cannot take the Diflucan or similar pills because it is potentially dangerous to do so with another medication I take. (my derm wouldn’t prescribe it) I’m on the cream 2x/day for 8-12 weeks. 2.5 weeks in and there is absolutely no difference. Not worse, but still spots popping up. Can anyone share their experience using this cream for FA? Thanks! submitted by /u/New_Expression3336 to r/Fungalacne [link] [comments]

Ketoconazole Shampoo 2% only aggravates my sebderm flaking. Anyone else experience this?
Been dealing with sebderm for six months. Hydrocortisone and Ketoconazole cream both work ok but the shampoo not so much. When I use red ketoconazole shampoo from pedagis brand it just makes more white flakes on my eyebrows. Just started trying MCT oil as well and seems promising. Maybe just the brand. Thank you, PA government regulations, for forbidding home health aids from applying ketoconazole cream to my grandfather's feet!
My 101 year old grandfather lives with me. He's enrolled in the VA's in-home care program, including visits from a home health aid several days a week. The agency we've been using for 2 years has the WORST administration. Excellent carers, no complaints about them, but I couldn't take dealing with their bosses anymore, so I called the VA to switch agencies. New agency whom I've spoken with before and has done a home visit calls me today and says it's all set up for them to start on Monday. So we go over all the care he needs, what I want the aid to do every day, and when I get to applying ketoconazole cream to his feet every visit, they first drop this bomb: "Oh, we're not allowed to handle medications! That means we can't apply PRESCRIBED creams to his skin!" WTF?! You just asked me 1 second prior about his oral meds! "Yeah, we can REMIND him to take them, but we can't give them to him!" What the everloving...?! WHAT USE IS A HOME HEALTH AID IF THEY CAN'T APPLY CREAM TO THE CLIENT'S SKIN! I guess the crappy agency I've been using is slack about following regs. I explain this arrangement won't work, then, and I can't use them, and they say they're going to look into it. I hang up and dial the woman at the VA, desperately hoping I can reach her before she makes the switch, but get the voicemail. So, thank you, government regulators, for making it impossible for me to get some worthwhile, helpful help taking care of my 101 year old grandfather! I guess now that the cat's out of the bag about the cream caregivers have been rubbing on his feet being a PRESCRIPTION, no care agency can help me. I'll tell my uncle to expect less money to mooch because Pap's gonna have to pay for our friend out-of-pocket and off the books to come do his care several times a week because I work full-time and have a whole household to care for and should be allowed to hire help to bathe and shave my grandfather and apply presciption antifungal cream to his feet, prescription diaper rash cream to his groin, and triamcinolone cream to his back while I'm busy doing his laundry and groceries and meals and meds and trash and everything else! But at least I know innocent patients are safe from the danger of people without a medical or nursing degree rubbing antifungal PRESCRIPTION cream on their feet! Something patients are expected to do for themselves without a medical degree. YSK you should tell your doctor about bad dandruff
Why YSK: A bit of context for everyone - I’ve had terrible dandruff since I was young; being of South Asian descent my parents tried absolutely everything to resolve it. We tried oil treatments, head & shoulders, even the strong T-Gel stuff w/ tar. All of this works for a time, but requires consistent discipline and routine to actually do it’s job. Eventually the dry flaky behavior found its way to other parts of my skin - between my nose and cheeks, near my ears, by my eyebrows. Here too consistent moisturizer kept it at bay, but a missed day would mean a flair up. What I find is that not many people bring it up to their doctor - myself included. I would try many cocktails of fixes and browse the internet for a new method someone swore by. I eventually just came to the conclusion that maybe the climate is just too dry for my skin and I’ve got to deal with it. Here’s where a lot of ignorance in terms of dandruff comes in - dandruff is not due to the dryness of one’s skin. The flaky nature of the stuff is quite the opposite. When your skin or hair is too oily, it attracts a normal fungus on your skin to have a feast and flair up. Throwing more oils at dandruff does not solve dandruff. At the beginning of this year, I mentioned it to my doctor during my physical and he prescribed me a topical cream for my face, and a prescription shampoo for a few times a week. What I was diagnosed with was Seborrheic dermatitis - and it was in fact very treatable. Skeptical, I applied the cream without any lotion or moisturizer; not thinking it would do a thing. The shampoo as well after a shower. It’s gone. All of it. Completely gone. No flakes or problem areas anywhere overnight. It’s so relieving to just have it gone. According to the PCP, it also doesn’t require a refill - once it’s done you’re good to go. Basically tldr; talk to your Dr about bad dandruff and stop trying a concoction of remedies. It’ll change your life. EDIT: woah this blew up. My prescription is as follows: Topical Ketoconazole 2% cream Ketoconazole 2% shampoo EDIT 2: A lot of you have pointed out that Head and Shoulders and lots of other shampoos have Ketoconazole as the active ingredient. Unfortunately for whatever reason this did not work for me and I had to get a prescription. Though, I think this is why you should bring it up to your Dr. - if the treatment doesn’t work then your Dr. can help you navigate what will work instead of you searching the internet and trying everything! submitted by /u/Suspicious-Rich-2681 to r/YouShouldKnow [link] [comments]
