Ketosis
What is Ketosis?

Ketosis is a metabolic state in which the body, due to a lack of carbohydrates, begins to burn fat for fuel instead of glucose. This process produces ketones, which serve as an alternative energy source for the brain and body.

Is Ketosis trending?

Ketosis declining with a month-over-month change of -2.02% over the past 5 years, though it still receives approximately 74,000 monthly searches.

Why is Ketosis trending?

1
Weight Loss
Many people turn to ketosis as a means of weight loss, as the body becomes more efficient at burning fat for energy, leading to a reduction in body fat.
2
Improved Mental Clarity
Some individuals report enhanced mental clarity and focus while in ketosis, as ketones are a more efficient fuel source for the brain compared to glucose.
3
Reduced Appetite
Ketosis can lead to a natural reduction in appetite, making it easier for individuals to consume fewer calories without feeling deprived.
4
Stable Energy Levels
By relying on fat stores for energy, individuals in ketosis often experience more stable energy levels throughout the day, avoiding the energy crashes associated with high-carb diets.
5
Potential Health Benefits
Emerging research suggests that ketosis may have potential health benefits beyond weight loss, including improved blood sugar control, reduced inflammation, and potential therapeutic effects for certain neurological disorders.

Anyone using Keto sticks to measure if you're in Ketosis or not?
I'm averaging ~12-17 mg of simple carbs and ~20 complex carbs a day, and I still can't get into deep ketosis; I stay around light pink to med pink at most. Averaging around 13-14 mg/dL a day. ______________________________________________________________________________ UPDATE: I thought I'd add these simple facts about simple carbs that I thought all the smooth brainers who commented about how there's no reason to reduce simple carbs from your diet to lose weight and become healthier. (Sources are cited. I apologize for the poor highlighting job.) I started with sugar, but feel free to investigate for yourselves re: Flour: bread, pasta, etc.... the results will be about the same. https://preview.redd.it/rfwdic1h5q3h1.png?width=954&format=png&auto=webp&s=12fbcdfc3cdd2d282049f0639cfe9c5c66f0eb53 submitted by /u/LDB2026 to r/compoundedtirzepatide [link] [comments]

Best tricks to get into ketosis faster
I need to hear some good ideas to jump start ketosis. I had one extremely successful run and lost 90 lb in 2023, by simply doing a 3-day fast. But with the stresses of my new job and the inability to take that kind of time off, I've pretty much become a slave to carbs. If I go to slow, I'll cheat. So I've abandoned even trying in the hopes that "someday" I'll have a week off and I can fast for a few of those days. It's way too hard to long term fast when I have work in a couple days. But I just realized maybe some of you know a better trick than just fasting, as it really is the only shortcut I know of. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask! My sweet tooth and pizza cravings as well as work habits are not going to allow me to take the proper, slow route. I need that loss of carb appetite only ketosis seems to bring. UPDATE: Thank you all for the inspiration! Here it is 2:30 on Sunday and I'm at 0.7. And while I'm plenty hungry I am not craving anything sweet already. Since this is the biggest I've been since my initial weight loss and I'm just about getting to where I don't want to tuck in my shirts. I'm going to make sure it sticks this time! submitted by /u/Responsible_Land8839 to r/keto [link] [comments]

"I could just emulate this." Okay, do it and be quiet about it.
A common argument basically every single time that Nintendo releases anything retro is that you could just emulate it. You're right, you could. Everyone knows this. Why are you pointing this out? When you see a store selling a bag of chips, do you say "big deal, I can just slice and fry my own potatoes." When you see someone selling art do you just say "Whatever, I can just make my own art." What purpose does it serve to announce to the world that you can just emulate something? Why can I smell illness, but others can’t?
No one else I know besides my mom (and sometimes my dad) can smell when others are ill. It's so odd because I'll be around a (sick) friend and I'll smell this almost vomit like smell, but no one else can smell it. So I'll ask the friend if they're sick and they most of the time say yes and ask me how I knew, and I'll tell them I smelt it. Lots of times they won't believe me because 1.They haven't thrown up 2. People can't "smell sickness" It's so odd because I can smell it up to a day in advance. I'm not a superhero or anything, but I wonder why not everyone can smell it??? submitted by /u/AngryPickledPickles to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

How do I know when I’m in ketosis?
I’ve been attempting keto for about two weeks but have been doing it very seriously for about 4 days. I’m not sure what to look for or what to expect. I did keto for about a year when I was about 16 and it worked so well for me I lost like 50 pounds and it was the best I’ve ever felt. I guess what my question: is there any real way to know if I’m in keto? submitted by /u/Imhereforthesmells to r/keto [link] [comments]

What’s your primary indication you are in ketosis (other than blood testing)
I’m trying not to obsess too much about ketone blood readings and just going by feeling and simply keeping my carbs low (10-20g net). What are your main subjective indications that your body is comfortably in ketosis? And do you have any to indicate you’ve accidentally broken out of ketosis? For me, it’s mainly how energetic/clear minded I feel first thing in the morning and how easy/difficult it is to go 16-20 hours without food. When my body is comfortably in ketosis I get exceptional mental clarity and have no problem with longer IF fasting periods. submitted by /u/crystal_castle00 to r/keto [link] [comments]

Why do doctors hate ketosis?
10 days on ketosis, I have more energy, less food cravings, clearer skin. I feel much better. But whenever doctors hear about ketosis, they criticise it, saying you need carbs for brain function. I don't see the problem if your diet is high in fat and protein... these doctors don't seem so reliable. submitted by /u/EL3IE to r/keto [link] [comments]

What does ketosis feel like?
31 f - as someone who is just starting their fasting journey, can someone explain to me what it feels like to be in ketosis? When I was 18, I had a quick and intense change in my habits when I started dating someone who made me aware of how bad processed food was. I didn't think twice and just kinda followed his way of eating. I vividly remember when I started, it was about January, tons of snow on the ground. By the time summer rolled around, we were moving to a different apartment and I remember constantly pulling my pants up while we were painting the house, and just kinda realizing that, oh damn I lost weight. I was never fat, but I've always been over weight a little. I'm 5'7 and I was always stuck around 150-160, and at some point when I was kid I think I just started to believe that this was just my weight, and I would never be really 'slim' . Well, over the course of that summer, I became someone that I didn't recognize, in the best way possible. It was around late July when I invited a friend over that i haven't seen in close to a year. We were gonna have a girls night and just catch up. When she got to my house, she was stunned. "Whoa!!! Look at you!!" So, I did. And as I did, I quite literally had a out of body experience. Somehow, the whole time I lost weight, I never even really stopped and became present and really observed my weight loss. It's like, in a instant, I looked BETTER than all the girls I was ever envious of. I felt so euphoric in that moment - it was so surreal. When I think back on that whole summer , it's like a dream. I was so unbelievably clear headed, that I wasn't focusing on words like calorie or fat or really anything - I was just living. Just being alive that summer felt like a high. Is that ketosis? The diet we were eating consisted of zero processed food, only ate whole fresh foods. I didn't eat meat at all for maybe 3 months and than ended up just kinda instinctively eating a steak one day after my period lol. We also drank coffee but had little to no dairy except for various cheeses. Mostly we would just eat rice, veggies, fruits, soups. My physical activity didn't change much, if anything maybe i walked a little more. By the end of the summer I ended up weighing myself, and to date its the smallest I've been, and I felt soooooooo good. I weighed in at 125. It would teter between this and 135 for the next 7 years despite me slipping back slowly into not eating so great. Fast forward to present day - I'm a inflamed mess. Starting back from square one without a healthy motivating boyfriend. I want to feel good again, I want to feel like I did that summer again, SO BADLY. Was this feeling I had from being in ketosis possibly? Because some of the memories I have of the sudden bursts of mental clarity are unreal. It's like I was living at peak level clarity. I'm SO determined to get there again. submitted by /u/voodo0childd to r/fasting [link] [comments]

What does being in ketosis actually feel like?
Please explain like I’m five. What do I feel if and when my body actually changes into ketosis? Do you feel any different? Do you notice you’re not tired after eating? Why do people push ketosis when a caloric deficit exists?
Ketosis is quite the state. However, people on diets do not need to be on zero carbs and only some of them follow the keto way. Any mention for or against the "keto way" tends to result in online harassment. I am here to ask some questions and get factual answers: 1) Where does the body get energy to burn from if, hypothetically, one went on a 600 calorie diet of mostly carbs, which keep you out of ketosis? Also assume their body burns 1500 cal/day just to stay alive and keep the organs running. Do not swarm the comments stating that this is impossible or bad for you as I have given this example in order to ask a question, which I still do not have answered. Without the ketones, adipocytes' fat will not metabolized, so would (only) muscle loss occur? (And no fat loss) 2) How quickly can ketosis be turned "on" and "off" when getting almost zero carbs, but then, nightly, getting 8g of evil added added sugars in a snack. Will you not be in ketosis again until the next afternoon? submitted by /u/emergentgold to r/loseit [link] [comments]

What's the role of ketosis in weight loss if CICO is everything?
Seems like most people here believe CICO is the sole factor in weight loss. I'm not knocking the idea, but if that's true, then what's the purpose of staying in ketosis all the time? What would be the potential harm in popping in and out of ketosis at random so long as you maintain a calorie deficit? EDIT: Please guys, before you downvote, understand that I'm not trying to disprove or challenge Keto. I'm genuinely just trying to understand how it works. I get that being in ketosis "causes your body to burn fat for energy instead of glucose," but what does that mean practically speaking? Is there no difference between eating 1500 cals on a regular diet versus 1500 cals on keto except that I'd be less hungry on keto? Or is there an actual increase in weight loss on keto? submitted by /u/maverick1ba to r/keto [link] [comments]

Accidentally put myself in ketosis and ran with it
Not a joke, I got a case of the isolation blahs and tried to live off egg salad for a week and noticed a sudden positive change in my mood and abrupt drop in weight. Took me a bit of googling the ingredients I had used to figure out what I did so I figured 'why not?' and went for it. It's been almost a month and a half and I feel amazing! Growing up I had a strong preference for unsauced fatty meats, oily fish, and leafy greens cooked in fats, I only ate carby foods because I was made to. I have had 0 non-keto cravings. I have dropped a little over 10% of my body weight, though I know some of that is water. I got a desk bike and find myself full of energy and motivation to pedal for over an hour a day. My acne is gone, my migraines are gone, my hunger is gone, and my mood is brighter than it's been in years. Even without the weight loss those side effects are worth it to me. My regret is not starting sooner, but now is better than never! submitted by /u/poofybirddesign to r/keto [link] [comments]

My cringy embarrassing way of keeping myself in ketosis
So from a young age I was into dragonball Z. In my later teen years I began to just eat and eat to the point where I gained about 100 lbs from the age of 17 to 19. But since I discovered keto it was a struggle to keep the diet. Constant breaking it and starting over. Until I heard it referred to as the "state of ketosis" and I knew that they called super saiyan a "state" so now I keep in my head that ketosis is my version of super saiyan. Moral of the story. I'm embarrassing lol and always find something to keep you motivated to stay in ketosis. For reference, I'm a 22 year old male XD submitted by /u/uchihaclan1995 to r/keto [link] [comments]

Experienced fasters: How long does it take you to reach ketosis?
It seems that it takes about 3 days for the average person to get into a state of ketosis when fasting. For those of you who are veterans of fasting, especially longer fasts (5+ days), how long does it take you to get into ketosis? I'm curious about this due to this guy going into ketosis in only 2 days on his second 5 day fast. Was wondering if it was due to the avocado or his body just adapting faster. submitted by /u/kryptomancer to r/fasting [link] [comments]
