MaryB, I hope you nothing more than heavy rain. Thanks very much for the info about the disability chair. I showed it to DH. Unfortunately, we both think that it wouldn’t work for our kitchen. Very narrow space between the 2 rows of cabinets. Not even room for the both of us at the same time. I’m saving the info to show to DD. Jan

Need backsplash ideas
I am in desperate need of ideas for a backsplash in my new kitchen. We’ve chosen amazing quartzite called Blue Louise that is going to look great with eggshell cabinets for the perimeter and teal cabinets for the island. However, I am struggling to find a backsplash that will complement the quartzite, not compete with it. Could anyone provide an idea?

Aitah for super gluing rubber bumpers on my kitchen cabinets because my family cannot understand what "don't slam the cabinets when I'm in the kitchen" means, and saying that the next step was removing the doors.
I hate loud noises. Lucky me I work at a very noisy job. I like money more than I hate noise. Plus I wear double hearing protection. Earplugs and noise cancelling ear muffs. My wife and I have been married for fifteen and a half years. For our tenth anniversary I surprised her with a kitchen remodel. We had Formica countertops from the fifties. Plywood cabinetry. The people from That 70s Show would have felt at home. I had done some shopping with my sister to make sure I wasn't going to over promise and under deliver. I had been saving for this since we bought the house. The only thing that mattered to me was soft closing cabinets. My wife agreed and was super happy with the budget. Then she changed plans and rather than put in her own money from her job she just got the extra things she wanted and cut out the hinges we had agreed on. And then her and the kids have proceeded to try to drive me crazy for five years. I usually don't eat with the family because of my work hours. So whatever is left from their meal is mine. I try to eat in the kitchen in peace. Trust me I've tried eating in other rooms, even the basement. My wife takes it as a personal insult that I want to be apart for m them after being gone all day. I've tried talking to her about the slamming. I've tried talking to he and the kids about it. I've bought little felt stickers and put them on. She took them off. A couple weeks weeks ago I was eating quietly after work. And one of the kids needed something from the cabinets. Rather than just opening up the one where the item should have been my wife opened four doors. And then rather than gently closing the cabinet she slammed all four of them shut like she was bugs Bunny inventing a new percussion instrument. I didn't say anything. The next day I super glued rubber bumpers top and bottom on every door. My wife is upset that the cabinet doors don't close properly. She tried removing one and pulled a sliver of oak off the door. I used wood glue to fix it. It looks fine unless you really look. She tried cutting one off. The bumpers are vulcanized rubber. They aren't going anywhere. She told me that I ruined her beautiful kitchen. I told her that she and the kids seemed to take pleasure in pissing me off with noise that could be avoided. I told her to leave the bumpers alone and that if I found any missing that door would also go missing. All I want if fifteen minutes of peace to eat quietly. When we eat together there is all kinds of noise but it doesn't bother me. That's just the noise a family makes. But it's like they wait until I get home to come skam the doors. They are literally home for hours before I get home. And they have hours after I eat to go and get what they need. Was I an asshole for my solution and the solution that will follow if they try to get undermine me? submitted by /u/Minute_Top_4323 to r/AITAH [link] [comments]

A few gems from my 102-year old grandmother’s kitchen cabinets
I am SO happy I learned about this subreddit! Last month, I became a full-time caregiver for my 102-year old grandmother. I spent a lot of time going through her kitchen cabinets and finding lots of foods and spices from the 2000s or older. If I had known about this sub before, I would have taken so many more pictures before tossing stuff out. Here are some honorable mentions that we’re holding onto for now. In the past, I’ve found mosquito repellent under the kitchen sink made from chemicals banned by the US EPA in the 1970s. The oldest (non-food) thing I’ve come across were my grandfather’s notes while studying in the army during WW2. Definitely a lot to come across but I’m excited to share these somewhere! submitted by /u/jm08003 to r/GrandmasPantry [link] [comments]

Are custom kitchen cabinets worth it? I'll start. No. 🙂
Cabinets! A kitchen item that receives way more attention than they deserve. Someone sold the public a bill of goods that your kitchen cabinet selection is "important," "significant," and requires deep thought and consideration. Bollucks! What a bunch of horse manure. Custom cabinets, to hold stuff, are not necessary. After several kitchen remodels and a new build, custom cabinets are a waste of time and money. In my case, it wasn't about the money (yes, they were overpriced but the significant other wanted them). It was the time drain: meetings upon meetings to discuss a box hanging on a wall or sitting on the floor or out of the way in a pantry! In the case of the new build, installation took forever and a few cabinets had to be redone. Then, the finished product looked no better than my 15-year-old KraftMaid cabinets in my former home (now a rental). Unless you're doing some type of quirky cabinet that requires some custom finish, select your cabinets from an established high end or mid-tier cabinet company. (Or, given your budget, IKEA works just fine. I used them for a rental - still holding up after 10 years.) One of those established cabinet vendors will meet your needs for whatever specific cabinet you need in the kitchen. In all the kitchens that I've remodeled (4), no one ever walked in and commented on the cabinets (including the new build). They commented on the range, yes. The refrigerator, yes. Even the pet feeding area. The cabinets? Never. All that being said: If you're building or remodeling a McMansion with an ungodly, huge, unnecessary kitchen, then custom cabinetry is likely in your future because you can. We didn't build a McMansion (2500 sq ft), but the kitchen was designed for function; not aesthetics or to impress anyone. There was/is absolutely no value in the custom cabinets we have in the kitchen and pantry. Not even for resale (we're never selling this house). submitted by /u/NotLastYear to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

Is it normal for kitchen cabinets to look like this in early stage?
My contractor just started on our kitchen cabinets, is it normal for the corner wood to look kind of beat up? Looks to me like the saw they used didn't cut properly, but maybe this kind of wood just does that. Edit: We agreed on 25K for 16 lower cabinets, 4 floor to ceiling cabinets and a 5ft x 10ft island with full depth cabinets on both sides. We've already paid 23K in good faith as he said he finished the cabinets. All we owe is 2K after they are painted. He's also making our 3 vanities for 8K, we've paid half for them. He's doing a full house remodel for us, we signed with a GC who assigned him to us. These comments are pretty worrying, need to figure out next steps. submitted by /u/ColdHealthy6330 to r/cabinetry [link] [comments]

Best kitchen cabinets, which cabinet brands actually last?
This is my kitchen right now. The bones are fine and the layout works, but the cabinets are killing me. They’re that builder-grade oak style you see everywhere, the finish is worn, the drawers stick, and no matter how much I scrub they always look tired. I’m ready to replace them, but I’m stuck on where to buy. I once tried ordering “budget kitchen cabinets” online for a rental property and they were a total disaster, thin particle board, doors that warped, and drawer tracks that broke after a few months. On the flip side, the quotes I’ve gotten from custom cabinet makers in town are insanely high, like more than I spent on my car. So now I’m trying to find that middle ground. I want durable kitchen cabinets that won’t feel cheap, but I also don’t want to pour my life savings into this remodel. For anyone who has been through it, what cabinet brands actually held up for you, and are there any brands you’d avoid? submitted by /u/dylanmercer828 to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

Best kitchen cabinets for a remodel… which cabinet brands can I actually trust after bad past purchases
So I found this kitchen photo while pulling ideas for my remodel and it hits exactly what I want… clean white shaker kitchen cabinets, dark hardware, simple but classy. Here’s the problem… I’ve been burned before. Ordered “affordable kitchen cabinets” online a few years ago for a rental unit and what showed up was pure junk. Thin particle board, cheap tracks that jammed, and half the boxes didn’t even line up. I swore to myself I wouldn’t repeat that mistake but now I’m back at it and the big box stores near me just don’t inspire confidence either. Custom cabinet makers in my area quoted me numbers that were basically a down payment on a house… so I’m stuck. I want high quality cabinets that don’t cost luxury money but I also don’t want to throw cash at something that falls apart in two years. So for anyone who’s been through a kitchen remodel recently, what cabinet brands or companies did you go with and how did they hold up? Were they worth it, or do you regret it? Am i overreacting? Kitchen cabinets cost is way off imo
Attached is a rendering of our kitchen. The next pic is the technicals. We got quoted $41000 for just the perimeter cabinets not counting the white oak open shelves, range hood or the island. Also not counting the fixtures like knobs, pulls and handles. I think its way too much, but our designer mentioned we have 29 cabinet cases which drive up the cost. Ceiling height is 9ft. And the cabinet material is Siteline MDF in color Opal. submitted by /u/Weak_Leek_7971 to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

Warning- painted wood cabinets. Last year we had a budget of $700 to makeover our 1950’s kitchen.
Most of the budget went to wood and paint. The sellers updated the appliances, backsplash, and countertops. I did try restraining but was not pleased. submitted by /u/Kind_Breadfruit_2088 to r/kitchenremodel [link] [comments]

First time making kitchen cabinets. I did the entire kitchen myself for less than half of our original budget.
I replumbed and rewired the water heater to the basement, rewired the stove so it has a recessed outlet, replaced the floor, installed new sink, removed old chimney flu cover, patched a bunch of holes, replaced sheet vinyl over the asbestos linoleum that is covering original douglas fir flooring i was hoping to refinish, built all my cabinets from scratch, purchased and installed new sink, stained and oil-base-polyurethaned butcher block counters, put in a new backsplash, purchased ducted and installed new microwave hood, and added a couple new outlets all for under $3,000. Just 6 or 7 years ago all I had was some crappy folding black and decker screwdriver, not even a drill. My dad got me a dewalt 20v max drill for christmas about 6 years ago and I went from there. I'm not afraid to tackle many projects now. I had a 3 month old at the start and finished right before his 1st birthday. Worked mostly 2 days per week and I don't have a garage, so each day I could work, I had to take all my tools out of my exterior entry basement and work under a tent and tarps to stay dry from the rain. I learned a lot and i absolutely hate making cabinet doors now. submitted by /u/drinkdrinkshoesgone to r/DIY [link] [comments]

this kitchen drawer/cabinet is too narrow to hold pot lids, and using it to store spices or cans would be a huge waste of space. There’s enough space to store large utensils standing up but they would just fall everywhere with the way the dividers are made.

Built my first home at age 30. Designed the kitchen myself and completed it with my dad who owns a cabinet shop. The kitchen is my absolute favorite part.
Been moved in for 10 months now and it sure is sweet living in your own home, especially one you built for yourself. It took 18 months to complete. I work from home, so I was often able to work on the house during the day and work at nignt. 3/2 ~2300 under roof, nothing crazy. Made it my own in lots of ways but the cabinetry is really where I left my touch. I spent a long time designing the kitchen and master bath. No, I don't have enough lights 😂. Kitchen is Sundance stained cherry and black stained oak with Quantum Quartz - bianco tiffone. Bath is paint grade maple with SW ballard blue and Cambria Inverness Cobalt. Delta 45" sink with dual Moen touchless faucets. This is one of my absolute favorite features. My wife and I can both be using the sink at the same time. Highly recommended this as a custom touch!! 30" GE profile induction range paired with 36" profile 600cfm hood. I really like the hood being wider than the range, it definitely helps capture all those gases. Cabinets start at 90" and bump up 6" each step with the top of the center cabinet being at 126" cathedral is at 144". Cabinets left and right of hood are 66" split between 42" wood panel and 24" glass. Still not sure what I'll display in there yet, but even if nothing I love the look a little bit of glass added. Anyways, hope this gives some inspiration on style or color combinations. submitted by /u/itsJoeJoeyJoseph to r/Homebuilding [link] [comments]

No, I don't want the crap you have in stock. Yes, I know exactly the sizes, dimensions, and extras I need. No, I don't want you to install. No, I don't want your design advice.
