Mulberry x bottega veneta : sharing my latest build
Every single bag I make helps me learn something new. This time, I wanted to try the woven aesthetic you see on Bottega Veneta bags. My goal was a tote inspired by the Mulberry Bayswater, but with woven side panels. Since I hadn't tried this before, I did a bit of research. It's not actually traditional weaving—it's more of a slotted lacing technique where you loop individual straps through slits cut into a solid leather sheet. It gives the perfect illusion of weaving, but the best part is the structural advantage: the straps stay totally flat and won't roll into a cord over time. I drafted the templates on papper first and used a custom chisel (matching the strap width) to punch the slits. On the first test run, the geometry was good but the look felt way too heavy because the straps were too thick. So I skived the thickness down and tried again on a small patch. The results were 100% satisfying, so I finally commited to the build. For the actual bag, I paired a rustic pink nappa leather with gold plated stainless steel hardware. The interior is lined with goat suede—definitely a pain to maintain, but nothing elevates a bag's inside like suede. For utility, I put in a padded laptop compartment, two open pockets, and a waterbottle holder. On the exterior, I added a quick-access slip pocket for a phone on the back and a trolley sleeve to slide over suitcase handles for travel. I've included a few pictures of the making process. Lemme know your thoughts on how it turned out! submitted by /u/kathihandmade to r/handbags [link] [comments]

Slim laptop sleeves that actually protect against rain without making your backpack huge?
I didn’t realize how many laptop sleeves are either super bulky or basically just decorative fabric until I started comparing them. A lot of them claim to be “water-resistant,” but reviews seem all over the place once people actually get caught in rain. What sleeves have people found that strike a good balance between protection and staying slim inside a backpack? I’m not looking for a giant padded case, just something that can handle everyday commuting without turning the backpack into a brick. Also curious if materials make a big difference here. Some people seem to swear by neoprene, while others say the waxed fabric or hard-shell styles protect better without adding much weight. And are zipper designs something to pay attention to? I’ve seen a few comments saying water gets in through the zipper long before it soaks through the actual sleeve material. Would love to hear what people ended up sticking with long term, especially if it held up through travel or bad weather. submitted by /u/koky_6756 to r/ProductQuery [link] [comments]

I don’t trust rankings anymore — what’s genuinely the best laptop sleeve in your opinion?
Every “best laptop sleeve” list feels like it’s copying the last one. Same brands, same claims, but then you see mixed feedback once people actually live with them. For context, laptop sleeves are basically protective cases for carrying a laptop without a full bag. People use them for commuting, tossing into backpacks, or just keeping their device safe from scratches, bumps, and light drops. Sounds simple, but once you look into materials, padding, fit, and durability, it gets surprisingly inconsistent. I’ve been digging into this a lot to put together a guide that’s actually useful and not just repeating the usual recommendations. I’ve checked reviews, comparisons, even some long-term feedback—but it’s hard to tell what actually holds up versus what just looks good in product photos. Real everyday use is where things usually show their flaws, so I’m trying to fill in that gap and avoid recommending stuff that disappoints over time. A few things I’d love input on: Which laptop sleeve have you used the longest, and how has it held up? Have you had issues with zippers, stitching, or materials wearing out faster than expected? Do slim sleeves actually protect enough, or do they just prevent scratches? Any brands that seemed premium but didn’t justify the price? How important is water resistance in real-world use? Have you found sleeves that fit “perfectly,” or is sizing always a compromise? Which ones would you definitely not recommend after using? From what I’ve gathered so far, there are a few general types: slim neoprene-style sleeves, more structured padded ones, and premium materials like leather or felt. Protection seems to vary a lot more than expected—some sleeves are basically just scratch covers, while others add real cushioning. Fit also seems like a bigger deal than most lists mention, especially with different laptop thicknesses. A lot of marketing leans heavily on aesthetics and “premium materials,” but that doesn’t always translate to durability or protection. Another pattern is that cheaper sleeves sometimes hold up just as well as expensive ones, depending on use. People also seem to underestimate how important a good zipper and interior lining are until they fail or start scratching the device. Trying to put together something that’s actually helpful and avoids pointing people toward overpriced or underperforming options. Would love to hear real experiences before I finalize anything—especially long-term use or unexpected issues. Anything I’m missing here? submitted by /u/Miles_01_2 to r/ProductQuery [link] [comments]

Made a laptop Sleeve for myself after not liking any I found
I made this laptop sleeve because I was looking for something for my own MacBook and honestly couldn’t find anything I liked. Most of what I saw felt generic, especially a lot of the ones on Amazon. The styles didn’t really do it for me ,so I decided to make my own instead. The exterior is a blue pebbled (shrunken) calfskin, paired with a padded interior and a red nappa lamb skin lining. The lambskin is very soft and supple , which gives the sleeve a really nice feel when handling the laptop. I finished it with a blue edge paint and blue stitching to keep everything cohesive. Overall, I’m really happy with how it came out. The one issue I ran into is that I made it a bit too exact to the laptops dimensions. Combined with the natural grip of the nappa lambskin, it makes inserting and removing the laptop slightly tight. For the next version, I’d widen it just a bit to account for that friction. Aside from that, it functions well and feels solid. After finishing it, I took it out to the park to get some photos and see how it looked in a more natural setting. I’m curious what others think. Would you prefer a flap closure or an open top? Horizontal instead of vertical? As it is now, the padding and leather create enough pressure that the laptop feels secure and unlikely to slide out. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed. submitted by /u/WorthConsideration32 to r/Leathercraft [link] [comments]

I made a padded laptop sleeve! Feeling proud.
I'm a very occasional sewer. I pick up a project here and there and mend clothes as needed. I learned years ago (this was my 2nd zipper ever) but since I do it so infrequently I'm always rusty. But look at this laptop sleeve! It's a Chrsitmas present for my cousin and I think they'll love it. Feeling very happy, even with the imperfections. Needed a laptop sleeve, didn’t want to pay $40, so I paid $200 In tools and materials. First project, hand stitching.
Definitely could’ve planned the stitch line a bit better, and it’s about 1/4” too big, but I’ll take it. Already have a list of projects to tinker with! submitted by /u/Tamaren to r/Leathercraft [link] [comments]

Looking for laptop sleeve suggestions
I just got a CPL24 in the mail and I’m beyond excited about owning this bag and using it for EDC as well as laptop carry. After watching many videos about the bag, the laptop compartment was one of the main selling points because of the way it side loads. Now that I have the bag in person and can load it up, I realize that my laptop with the sleeve I currently have won’t fit. The laptop is a 16” MacBook Pro and fits perfectly in the bag by itself. What I would love is a sleeve that hugs the laptop as much as possible as to not add a lot of additional padding, but will protect it from rubbing in the bag or rubbing against the bag’s zipper. I’m also worried about the zipper on the sleeve scratching the laptop so if that’s somehow thought out too, then that’s a huge plus. The closest thing I’ve found from the brands I’m familiar with is the linked sleeve from Alpaka that they seem to be phasing out. Other than the above mentioned points, my ideal sleeve would be black and perhaps utilize some type of waterproof or very resistant material. Xpac would be cool, but I feel like that’s probably a long shot for what I’m looking for. Thanks in advance for any helpful tips! submitted by /u/cinemahorse to r/ManyBaggers [link] [comments]

I made a marbled leather laptop sleeve for my boyfriend. It was inspired by our monstera albo plant!

Got a new laptop sleeve in the mail, this was printed on the foam found inside. It was too good not to share.
