Interested in what you like for a tape measure? Brand, model, length, etc? This would be for general renovation use. One tape measure to use for everything. And a question about laser distance measures: are they useful? I was in Lowes and happened by the tape measures. Thought about a made-in-USA Stanley FatMax: the lock button was too rounded, did not move smoothly, both hard to operate and vague-feeling, and it’s heavy, but the tape itself was beefy and didn’t flop or twist. The Milwaukee was lighter (more plastic), button more definite-feeling, but the blade seemed less substantial. The Milwaukee “auto-lock” was very easy to use, will it hold up. I wonder if there is a better tape measure from a smaller brand, in imperial units? Lasers are getting very inexpensive, some are not much more than a good tape measure. I guess there are things they cannot measure, like the length of a piece of lumber. I have been seeing a lot of people using digital tape measures lately especially with all this AI hype mostly for DIY projects and furniture planning and before making a decision about them i just want to ask the people out there if they are accurate to the last inch and if not b how much does the accuracy vary ir that is a thing of every different ma manufacturer has its own variance. While reading about them they sound like a clear upgrade, faster readings, fewer human errors, they store previous values and easier one person measurements. With the traditional tape measure, it is direct, just pull out a tape and standardised numbers are written on them which are easy to trust because everyone in the construction and manufacturing industry uses them. Additionally, no batteries, software upgrades just makes it seem like the easier option. A (somewhat) last minute feature we added to the T1R Range was the foldable measuring paddle at the back of the tool. The measuring paddle is a foldable arm that is electronically connected to the T1R so that when it is extended, the tool automatically measures from that surface and adds in the distance of the tool body. It is a a very 'fidget spinner' like experience as it is held in place with a ball spring plunger so has a very satisfying 'push to open' interaction. While a few laser distance measuring tools have this feature, this is a first for a tape measure and integrated product. It's general function is to be able to get into corners for measuring diagonals but we have found it to be a hybrid button/fast way to instantly switch to measuring from the back of the tool for windows, cabinets, doors, etc. Really excited how this feature came out and nature of it being a 'functional button' as well for quick switching of reference surfaces for measurements. submitted by /u/reekontools to r/reekon [link] [comments]

Finished up 2 more Ryobi Gridfinity bins done. One for my 25' Tape Measure which ended up taking way longer to CAD than the others which surprised me. The other was a USB Lithium Battery bin. I didn't like the 1x2 bins for a single battery because it felt like too much space so I made one that holds 3 batteries in a 2x2 bin. I was wondering if anyone knew of a digital/laser tape measure that can be easily held in the hand and ideally for measuring short distances. I don't know if its even been done but I would like to be able to measure a distance from above. Even if I have to have the device direcetly over it. Is there some sort of "self adusting." laser projector that is hand held. I have 2 ideal concepts that either one would be preferable than just laying a small laser point down in front of 2 minis and placing my hand roughly where I need to go or pointing the laser directly at the mini. Instead I'm looking for a way to just pick 2 points from above. The measurer itself uses an unseen or seen (doesn't matter.) 3rd point in the middle to try and measure the 2 points. So for example I want to measure between 2 minis I simply line up the dots over A and B and the measure iteslf uses a 3rd dot to act as a form of triangulation betweent he 2 points. L:ike it measures my hand is holding it say 3.5 feet above the plane and then gives the distance between points A and B. This one seems the most difficult to do for snap measurements from what I know which caused me to move on to option 2. A hand held tape measure/projector Similar to a Target Lock Laser Line that also projects a measurement in real time. Like showing a small number next to each inch/mm w/e you set marker. If that isn't possible/reasonable what is a good 2 in 1 laser measure tool/tape measure combo for wargaming. I don't want something so heavy that if it slips through my fingers I crunch models if possible. But also low to the ground easy enough to use that I could simply set it next to a small model place my hand at the target distnace and get an accurate measurement. So far I haven't had any luck at either 2. I'm also considering a roller like device like this. I’ve been looking at laser tape measures lately because they seem like one of those tools that either ends up being way more useful than expected or just becomes something you test twice and then forget about Most of what I’d use it for would be normal measuring around the house, room dimensions, furniture spacing, wall-to-wall stuff, random projects where holding a regular tape by yourself gets annoying fast. I got tired of trying to fit measuring gauges and tapes into small gaps, do i developed this laser tool. Just change the height above the table that you're holding the device until the tow lines of dots overlap. That then means there's 1 inch between each dot. I'm only shipping to within the UK at the moment, and i've only made 5 so far, but if there's interest i'll make a bunch more and expand it to shipping internationally. Let me know your thoughts.
