My wife says my foot-washing technique is gnarly/ineffective. Thoughts?
I don’t like touching my feet during a shower, and definitely do not want to use the loofah sponge that I use on my body on my feet. So this is how I wash them: I squeeze soap suds onto my feet and then use the bottom of foot to wash the top of the other, and vice versa. I do work my toes into the spaces between other toes. I feel like there’s not much difference between a foot washing a foot and a hand washing a foot. She says I’m fooling myself. submitted by /u/NarwhalDry151 to r/hygiene [link] [comments]

AirBnB host told me soap was supplied
Just recently booked an AirBnB in Utah which quite honestly wasn’t bad at all. But you could clearly tell they cut corners. All of the sponges on the sink were very old/worn and dirty. They told us they had plenty of soap they supplied so no need to buy any. When we arrived initially we couldn’t find the soap in the bathroom. So we proceeded to check all the draws and cabinets and discovered the soap supplied…🤮 Edit: Since this is taking off I guess I should have mentioned the draw under it had 5 used loofahs with old dried up skin on them and some of the bathroom towels had holes in them and some make up residue. I kid you not….I wish I was kidding. I’ve never seen anything like this before at an air bnb. Check this shit out: Some used loofahs: https://imgur.com/a/KG54jpx Worn out towels and a mark that’s either from makeup removal or someone wiping their butthole: https://imgur.com/a/QpNQ7hE submitted by /u/spike11552 to r/mildlyinfuriating [link] [comments]

Love for Everist Shampoo
Saw mixed reviews on Everist shampoo and conditioner concentrates here. I decided to try it out as bar shampoos have always disappointed. I’ve been using the shampoo and conditioner for about 3 months and love what Everist has done for my shoulder length straight hair. My hair is silky for the first time ever. I used to battle frizz but no longer. The small caps that come with the tubes are a bit fiddly. But they do have reusable flip caps available for free on the website. And you can send back the small caps for recycling. The tubes are aluminum and can be curbside recycled in my area. Wish there was an option to purchase without the “key” that helps squeeze out all the shampoo. I’ve got a collection of keys. The keys can be returned with the caps but still wish we weren’t mailing metal back and forth. They also sell a special sponge to use with the body wash. It’s super squishy. It feels like a block of jello when wet. I don’t like how smooth the sponge is. I get a similar amount of foam using a loofah with the body wash concentrate and prefer the roughness of the loofah. I love that I’ve finally eliminated plastic from my shower! submitted by /u/Suspicious-Hippo-631 to r/ZeroWaste [link] [comments]

Best Sponge Gourd 2025: Reviews & How to Choose
[Check Latest Arrivals sponge gourd on amazon.] Best Sponge Gourd 2025: reviews & How to Choose The Sponge Gourd, also known as Loofah Gourd, is a versatile vegetable with a myriad of uses, ranging from culinary applications to its renowned use as a natural exfoliating sponge. Its popularity stems from its sustainability, eco-friendliness, and multiple health benefits. For consumers seeking a natural alternative to synthetic products and a healthy addition to their diet, the sponge gourd presents an excellent choice. Given its growing demand and the increasing variety available in the market, selecting the best sponge gourd can be a challenging task. This review aims to provide a thorough guide to help you choose the perfect sponge gourd for your needs in 2025, covering key features, benefits, and considerations. [Explore Top Rated sponge gourd on Amazon.] Key Features Analysis The selection of a high-quality sponge gourd involves evaluating several important features that contribute to its overall value and usability. Fiber Density: The density of the fibers within the sponge gourd directly impacts its exfoliating properties and its durability. A denser network of fibers ensures more effective scrubbing and a longer lifespan, preventing premature disintegration. A High-quality sponge gourd exhibits tightly packed, yet flexible fibers. This allows for effective removal of dead skin cells and debris without causing irritation or discomfort. Lower-quality gourds frequently enough have sparse, brittle fibers that break easily and provide less effective exfoliation. Gourd Maturity: The stage of maturity at harvest is crucial for both culinary and exfoliation purposes. Sponge gourds harvested at a younger stage are typically ideal for consumption, offering a tender texture and mild flavor. A Mature gourds, on the other hand, are more suitable for use as sponges. When selecting a sponge gourd for exfoliation, it should be fully mature, as indicated by its dry, hardened outer shell. Immature gourds will not have the necessary fiber structure to function effectively as a sponge. Gourd Size and Shape: The optimal size and shape of the sponge gourd depend on the intended use. For culinary purposes, smaller to medium-sized gourds are generally preferred. For exfoliation,a size that fits comfortably in the hand and provides ample surface area is desirable. An Irregular shapes can affect the ease of use and the effectiveness of exfoliation. A Consistent cylindrical shape is typically the most practical for both handling and reaching various parts of the body. Organic Certification: Given the increasing emphasis on sustainable and eco-kind products, the presence of organic certification is a significant factor. Organic sponge gourds are cultivated without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides,or fertilizers, ensuring a healthier and more environmentally conscious choice. An Organic certification guarantees that the gourd has been grown according to strict organic farming standards. This reduces the risk of exposure to harmful chemicals, both during cultivation and in the final product. Look for certifications from reputable organizations to ensure authenticity. Processing Method: The way a sponge gourd is processed after harvesting can significantly impact its quality. Natural drying methods, such as sun-drying, are generally preferred over artificial drying processes. Sun-drying allows the gourd to dry slowly and evenly, preserving the integrity of the fibers and preventing them from becoming brittle. Artificial drying methods, on the other hand, can damage the fibers and reduce the sponge's lifespan. [Explore Top Rated sponge gourd on Amazon.] Core Benefits The sponge gourd offers a range of benefits that make it a highly desirable product for various applications. Effective Exfoliation: The natural fibers of the sponge gourd provide gentle yet effective exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and promoting circulation. This results in smoother, healthier-looking skin. A regular exfoliation with a sponge gourd can help to prevent clogged pores and reduce the occurrence of blemishes. It also prepares the skin for better absorption of lotions and moisturizers, enhancing their effectiveness. sustainable and Eco-Friendly: As a natural product, the sponge gourd is inherently sustainable and environmentally friendly. It is biodegradable and compostable, reducing waste and minimizing environmental impact. A Compared to synthetic sponges and exfoliating products, the sponge gourd offers a more sustainable alternative. Its natural origin and biodegradability make it an excellent choice for environmentally conscious consumers.Enhanced Bathing Experience: The textured surface of the sponge gourd provides a stimulating and invigorating bathing experience. It can be used with soap or body wash to create a rich lather and gently massage the skin. A The gentle scrubbing action helps to cleanse the skin thoroughly and remove impurities. It also promotes relaxation and can definitely help to relieve muscle tension. versatile Culinary Ingredient: Young sponge gourds can be used as a appetizing and nutritious vegetable in a variety of culinary dishes. They have a mild, slightly sweet flavor and a tender texture. A In Asian cuisine, sponge gourds are often used in stir-fries, soups, and stews. They can also be steamed, boiled, or grilled. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, making them a healthy addition to any diet. [Explore Top Rated sponge gourd on Amazon.] FAQs Section How do I prepare a sponge gourd for use as a sponge? To prepare a sponge gourd for use as a sponge, you must first remove the outer skin. This can be done by soaking the gourd in water to soften the skin, then peeling it off with your hands or a knife. Once the skin is removed, rinse the gourd thoroughly to remove any seeds or debris. Allow the gourd to dry completely before using it. How often should I replace my sponge gourd? The lifespan of a sponge gourd depends on how frequently it is used and how well it is cared for. With proper care, a sponge gourd can last for several months. It is indeed recommended to replace your sponge gourd every 4-6 weeks, or when it begins to show signs of wear and tear, such as discoloration or fraying. How do I clean and maintain my sponge gourd? to clean your sponge gourd, rinse it thoroughly with warm water after each use. Squeeze out any excess water and allow it to air dry in a well-ventilated area. Periodically, you can sanitize your sponge gourd by soaking it in a solution of water and vinegar or baking soda. This will help to kill any bacteria and prevent mold growth. [Explore Top Rated sponge gourd on Amazon.] Competitor Comparison Product Comparison Overview Premium Organic Sponge Gourd fiber Density: High, tightly packed fibers for effective exfoliation Gourd Maturity: Fully mature for optimal sponge texture Organic Certification: USDA Certified Organic Standard Sponge Gourd Fiber Density: Medium, moderately dense fibers Gourd maturity: Mature, but may have some immature sections Organic Certification: Not Certified Synthetic Loofah Sponge Fiber Density: Uniform, synthetic fibers Gourd Maturity: N/A (Synthetic) Organic Certification: N/A (Synthetic) Key Differences Summary The Premium Organic Sponge gourd excels in fiber density and maturity, resulting in superior exfoliation and a longer lifespan. Its organic certification ensures a healthier and more environmentally friendly choice. The standard Sponge Gourd offers a more affordable option but lacks the density and quality of the premium option. The Synthetic Loofah Sponge provides a consistent texture but is not as eco-friendly or sustainable as the natural sponge gourd. For users prioritizing quality, sustainability, and effective exfoliation, the premium Organic Sponge Gourd offers the best value despite its higher price. [Explore Top Rated sponge gourd on Amazon.] Ideal User Profile Eco-Conscious Consumers: Individuals who are passionate about sustainability and reducing their environmental impact will find the sponge gourd to be an excellent choice. Its natural origin, biodegradability, and compostability make it a perfect alternative to synthetic sponges and exfoliating products. Its natural exfoliating properties, sustainability, and versatility make it a worthwhile addition to any household. While it may require some initial readiness and maintenance, its benefits far outweigh the effort.the sponge gourd stands out as a superior choice for those seeking a natural, effective, and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional sponges and exfoliating products. Which body cleansing tool do you think is the best?
Plastic/Polyester Loofahs I personally use the basic round shower loofah sponge that you all know and see in every store. It’s usually labeled as a loofah for exfoliation and cleansing, and I believe it’s made out of plastic or polyester. I use five of them during my shower: one for my body, one for my kitty, one for my anus and butt crack, one for my buttocks (I use Neutrogena grapefruit acne body wash for this area to avoid pimples), and one for my feet. Each loofah has a different color to avoid mixing them up. I replace them about once a month, choosing the same colors each time. After each use, I rinse them one at a time under water while rubbing and squeezing them against themselves, then try to squeeze out as much moisture as possible before hanging them on the other side of the shower away from the water. Natural Sponges I tried natural sponges, but they were too harsh and annoying to hold. I already exfoliate my body every 4 to 5 days with a scrub and a scrub cloth, so I don't need the loofah for that purpose. Washcloths A lot of people say they use washcloths, but I’m not sure they clean as effectively. My logic is that using a washcloth seems less effective for washing dishes compared to using a sponge. The only advantage I see with washcloths is that they can be washed after each use, so you always have a clean towel before every shower. I don’t know much about washcloths since I grew up in a household that didn’t use them. But I've used towels before to wash my body because I was in a situation where I didn’t have access to a sponge. I definitely didn’t feel as clean. When I think of washcloths, I imagine small towels, which doesn’t seem like it would scrub everything off your body. Maybe washcloths have a different texture for scrubbing, but I’m not sure! Hands Then there are people who use their bare hands. I’m not sure what to make of that. Personally, I wouldn't feel clean using just my hands to scrub my body. I’d like to hear from others who use the round loofah sponge and whether they find that certain materials are better than others. I’d also like to learn more about washcloths from those who use them. Finally, I’m interested in hearing from people who use other types of cleansing tools that I haven't mentioned and if they think those are better. submitted by /u/Pale_Blackberry_4025 to r/NoStupidQuestions [link] [comments]

My favorite bath products
Hello Indian Skincare Addicts!! I thought that I will make multi-part series about my favourite bath, skincare and makeup products. So this is the 1st one in the series. A bit about me, I am someone who *was* adventurous about skincare/makeup, but I have been disappointed many times! For the last couple of months, I decided to curate a list of my favourites and HGs, products that I can continue to trust and rely on. I felt that such a list is absolutely necessary, as I was past the experimentation stage, and wanted some reliable and trustable products, who I know works, and most importantly, Work. For. Me!! So here is the list of bath favourites I have chosen to settle with. Plum Vanilla Vibes Sugar Body Scrub: MRP. Rs. 550 This thing is an absolute miracle! It smells heavenly, and has the *perfect* amount of moisturisation! The sugar melts when you scrub the body and it is *oh so very awesome*!!! I also have the bath oil of this range, but it is a little bit too 'oily' for my liking. I always buy 4 or 6 tubs of this during the Plum B1G1 sale (or similar). This for half the price is an absolute steal! Though I don't think that I will purchase this without an offer. Plum Vanilla Vibes Shower Cream: MRP. Rs. 380 Another Vanilla Vibes product I am completely crazy for! The smell, texture everything is amazing!! I also don't think that I will purchase this item for the full price, but if you see this at discount, absolutely restock it!! I do want to try out the other shower creams, as I feel that they have the same textures (with murumuru butter) with different scents, but for the body scrub, I'll only get the Vanilla one as it is the 'only' sugar scrub in the range, and I love the fact that it melts. Bioderma Atoderm Huile de douche: MRP. Rs. 1299 (on Nykaa) This is my 2nd bottle in about 7 months, and I am obsessed with this. I replaced my Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser with this, as I use it as a gentle cleanser and a makeup remover. I wet my palms and my face (with makeup), take this into my palm, and massage it away. It is awesome in removing sunscreen and makeup. I have tried the Plum Makeup Remover, but it wasn't close enough to remove my eye makeup. This cleanser is not a cleansing oil. It is more of a cleanser with oil in it. I have tried purchasing it from other sites, but they charge pretty hefty shipping, so I am sticking to Nykaa for this. Lactacyd Feminine Hygiene Wash: MRP. Rs. 215 I absolutely cannot praise this product enough!! I have been using this for over 9 years and it was suggested by my GP when I had got chickenpox. I remember visiting my doctor alone, for the routine checkup after recovery, and uncomfortably admitting that my "down there" was itchy and uncomfortable. I was prescribed some medicines and this wash. I have continued to use this since then, and no matter what other similar products I have tried, they have not matched up, period! Just, to add, the bottle lasts me around 9 to 11 months if you use it twice a day (you need a very small amount). Ahaglow Facewash: MRP. Rs. 631 for 200gm Glycolic acid is my most favourite exfoliating acid, and I believe that this product contains 1% GA. Salicylic Acid doesn't sit well with my skin, and this is one of the few facewashes that only contains GA, not SA. This is my go-to face wash. I also use this as a body wash when I have too much body acne. The price of this product is fairly reasonable (for me), hence this is (again) an absolute favourite for me. Benzonix Gel wash: MRP. 135 This is a favourite that I found from this sub!! It is a 5% Benzoyl Peroxide gel wash that I love using for my back acne. This is my 3rd tube (I think). I apply it after washing myself, and wait for like 5-10 minutes and then wash it off. I don't use this regularly, just when the back acne is acting up. Bare Essentials Face Cleansing Sponges: MRP. 180 for 4 pieces I love occasional physical exfoliation, and I love this sponge. Previously I was using a dual-ended brush from Miniso, but I converted after using this. The reason being - I can control the amount of pressure with this, simple! I can go hard on my nose and gentle on my cheek. The sponge is kind of harsh, and dunk it in warm water before using it. Natural loofah: Price Rs. 10 for 1 piece (will vary based on where you are from) This one is made from the fruits of the species Luffa aegyptiaca and Luffa acutangula (according to Wikipedia). I change my loofahs fairly often, and I used to feel extremely guilty about plastic waste. So, simply out of guilt, I have shifted to the natural loofah (In the picture I have cut one in half). Submerge and squeeze it in warm water and the loofah will become soft, then just scrub away!! I love the extra-exfoliation of the fibres of the natural loofah, but if you are new, it is an acquired taste. So these are my absolute favourite bath products. I will do a similar list about skincare and makeup. Please let me know your questions and comments below. Happy skincare!! 💜💜💜 Edited formatting. https://preview.redd.it/9bjqm133dr081.jpg?width=4624&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f922bb165a3e9fafd8239db63d42c4c7bf36d868 submitted by /u/PriyaSR26 to r/IndianSkincareAddicts [link] [comments]

“An American in Ireland” or something like that
Just returned from a 10 day trip to Ireland, and for other Americans who may come to this sub looking for helpful tips, I’ll mention what’s below and try to include some keywords to help with searches. This is American-specific advice, because even with my gobs and gobs of research pre-travel, there was still information I wanted to explicitly list out to help some future American traveler. Also, if you are Irish and reading this: I had a great time! I won’t bore you with the “so much culture/history/everything is green” of it all, but honestly….as an American, all that is true from my perspective and it was great to be able to experience it. Local Interaction: the Irish are friendly and helpful! But, COVID has changed the way we all interact. Tourists and locals alike. If you can find a way to safely get away from your designated seat at a pub or establishment, or lean over and break into another group’s conversation and engage locals in conversation, it’s great! But it’s tough right now, so set reasonable expectations about how you’ll be able to engage. This will change soon enough with restrictions being lifted. (Edited for more detailed/appropriate context after someone cherrypicked 1 original sentence to fuss over.) Air Conditioning: there is no AC in most places. You could argue that the climate doesn’t require it, which is like….80% true from an American perspective. We’re spoiled. I get it. There is constant moisture in the air (helloooo it’s an island full of lush greenery, it comes with the territory). But, if you are from the American South, or you come from a US region where AC is part of your everyday life, be ready to sweat. Be ready to feel constantly clammy. Be ready to put on your jeans in the morning and have them feel slightly moist because you had the windows open all night to cool off. I would argue that AC in the USA is dual purpose: keeping cool, and also maintaining a reasonable humidity indoors. Similarly, you will not have ceiling fans, window fans, or plug in fans to keep the air moving. If there is no breeze, if the windows don’t open or only open slightly, you will be sitting in sticky, still air. Weather - part 1: Be prepared for a heat spike during the tourism months. It can happen. It did to us, for 2-3 days, and it was mostly beautiful for us Southern Americans, but overnight without either AC or a fan to move the air was kind of brutal (again, we’ve been spoiled by AC, but for us it’s a necessity during 110F summer heat). A few days or even a week is not enough time for your body to acclimate to the unfamiliar climate. So bring shorts. Bring a lightweight tee shirt. Be prepared for heat in case it happens. Weather - part 2: bring a rain jacket with appropriate weight and underarm vents. Do not bring an umbrella. Do bring shoes that are waterproof, if possible. Sunburn: you can get sunburned in Ireland. You’d think it wouldn’t bear mentioning, but it does. Wear sunscreen. Driving - part 1: enough has been said about this. Watch a bunch of YouTube videos produced by driving instructors in Ireland and get familiar with the rules of the road. If you do this in advance, I promise you won’t be scared shitless when you get behind the wheel. (Also, your Passport does not count as a valid Driver’s License. So bring your state-issued license if you plan to drive.) Driving - part 2: if you have the chance to ride along with an Irish driver on rural roads, you will notice they view the lanes/lines more as a general guidance than a strict rule. This is how they’re able to go 80km/hr. You are an American. Drive slower. Stay within the lines. You will not brake fast enough to avoid a head-on collision with an Irish driver if you try to go the same speed on rural roads. And if a local is behind you, be polite and pull over when possible to let them pass you. Driving - part 3: when you visit the most scenic and famous areas (Ring of Kerry, Slea Head Loop, Cliffs of Moher/The Burren, Connemara, etc.), consider getting a bus/coach tour for the day. Yes you will be part of a structured activity, but you'll have the chance to interact with so many other people from various countries, and you'll truly be able to enjoy the scenery without worrying about the drive. That's why this is under the "Driving" category. It is in the tour company's best interest to show you the best-of-the-best and provide you with a good experience. Trust their itineraries. Driving - part 4: language -- "Petrol" is "gas", "Service Station" is interchangeable with either "Gas Station" or "Rest Area" (if you are on the motorways). Gas is almost always pump-then-pay. Very few card readers at the pump. Look out for stickers/etc. on the pump that say "After 10pm, please pay first." Renting Cars: in Ireland they’re called “car hires” and the default is a manual transmission car. Even if you know how to drive a manual transmission, it may be in your best interest to rent an automatic, even though it will cost more. It’s one less variable you have to adjust to when switching driving styles/sides. Again as above, Air Conditioning is not customary especially in the cheaper economy level of rental cars. You will need to filter your car rental search results to specifically be automatic transmission and to include AC. Car Styles: Do. Not. Rent. The. Cheapest. Car. You will regret it. Irish roads are good, but in those smaller, lower grade economy rentals, you WILL feel every bump, and you WILL be getting a headache if you drive for longer than 2 hours straight due to the excessive road noise. Just get the mid-grade car. That extra $100-150 will be worth it, I promise. Distance: you can drive the width of Ireland from Galway to Dublin via the motorway in roughly 2.5 hours. Americans and the Irish have 100% different perceptions of distance and willingness to drive long distances. For me, being in the car for 4-5 hours in a single day is just a day-trip to my grandmother or going for a hike. So if you’re like most Americans and you enjoy road tripping, do not be dissuaded by Irish people telling you that you’re driving too far, or that you’ll be dead tired by the end of your driving day. COVID - part 1: the adult population hit 90%+ vaccinated while we were there. It was wonderful to be somewhere where the civilians had a shared sense of responsibility regarding keeping one another safe from the pandemic. COVID - part 2: restrictions are being lifted in Ireland completely, as far as I was told and understand it, sometime September/October. Until then, and likely after for some time, you MUST make a reservation for EVERY activity or tour. Also, choose your activities based on the experience. We decided not to go to Newgrange, Knowth or Hill of Tara this time around because much of the magic of touring those places is seeing inside or getting a proper tour, which you are restricted from doing right now. Hostels: in America you will find 1-2 hostels in almost every large or famous city. In Ireland, they are much more ubiquitous. You can count on finding a hostel or guesthouse in almost every town, large or small. Set your expectations accordingly: hostels are value/budget accommodations. Do not expect the Ritz. But do expect a safe, reasonably clean and well kept place to lay your head at night. Note I did not promise an American hotel-quality mattress or — once again — air conditioning. Hotels: Let's say you are budgeting for 3-4 star accommodation with rooms in the range of $150-350/night. If you are looking for something even remotely the size of a standard American hotel, you will need to be booking in the $250-350/night price range for that specific hotel. Basically, just never go for the cheapest room if you are looking for even a little bit of space to move around. Your hotel room overseas is a place to sleep, and a place to shower. That's it. Drinking Water: you may have heard outdated sources saying not to drink the tap water in the smaller towns or rural areas. However, the EU imposed strict water standards on Ireland, and by 2018 99% of the country’s localities had met or exceeded these standards (albeit after a few deadline extensions). That being said, if you have a sensitive stomach or are truly afraid of water-born pathogens which could give you traveler’s diarrhea, just keep picking up large bottles of water as you go along. Medicine: a “pharmacy” or “drug store” in America is called a “pharmacy” or a “chemist” in Ireland. They are often generational and family run businesses. Expect “family business” style opening and closing hours. Interestingly, Ibuprofen (in Ireland: Nurofen) is only available “behind the counter” as we would stay in the States. If you are looking for pain relief, head to a local store and grab some “Panadol” which is a brand name for Paracetamol, or Tylenol/acetaminophen as we would refer to it. Soda: there is a different formulation for soda in Ireland. Many sodas, if any at all, do not contain high fructose corn syrup (yay!!). However, many non-diet sodas will contain a certain amount of Aspartame. If you are someone who has migraines triggered by artificial sweeteners, you need to steer clear of even the “regular”/non-diet sodas. Laundry: just bring fewer clothes and have them washed at a local dry cleaners. Drop off in the morning, pick up in the evening. It’s not worth the headache to buy detergent just to manage your Airbnb’s washer/dryer combo. It will barely dry (compared to what Americans are used to), you will be disappointed, and you will possibly be wearing damp clothes because you thought you could do a load of laundry and immediately wear the items you washed. Just pay the $12-15 and drop your bag of stuff off to have someone else do it. Save your money elsewhere. Linens/Towels: you will not be given a washcloth (“flannel”) ANYWHERE. Hotel, hostel, Airbnb. You just won’t get them. So if you are an American who likes to scrub-a-dub-dub with a washcloth, a loofah, a poof, or a big ole’ sponge in order to get that “my skin is exfoliated and clean” feeling, you need to bring it yourself. Airports - part 1: you do not have to fly into Dublin. There are smaller airports with less traffic that are just as accessible, and you’ll also start out driving on more manageable roads if you do rent a car. Airports - part 2: coming back to the US via Dublin airport….2 hours is NOT ENOUGH TIME. You need 3+ hours to get through Irish security, then US Border Patrol security, THEN go to your US Customs and Border Patrol pre-clearance where you get the “how was your trip? what are you bringing home?” interview. After dropping off your car, from the time you enter the front door of the airport for checkin and checking bags, that is when your 3 hour timer begins. Toilets - public: floor to ceiling walls and a full length door is the standard. What luxury compared to our flimsy and see-through-gaps stalls in America. Toilets - at home: Bathrooms are....small in Ireland. The bathrooms just generally have a much smaller footprint, and so saving square footage means a tight squeeze and everything is Tetris-ed in together. But also, think about how most buildings are fairly old/original/historic, then think about how people had smaller stature back then, especially when malnourished growing up, and then think about your big corn-fed American body frame trying to squeeze onto a toilet seat that was made for your great-great-great grandmother's tiny body. Even if you are average weight and stature by today's standards, your knees will probably knock against the shower stall or wall. Cell Service/Phones: buy an international “burner” phone, get an eSIM card from a provider such as Airalo, or unlock your phone and get an international-friendly physical SIM card. I’ll be honest, we went with eSIM cards through Airalo and the process wasn’t seamless. It’s cheaper, and yeah you can get away with data and WiFi only if you have to, but I had probably 20 instances where making an actual voice call using cell service would’ve made my life so much easier. So if you have the time to sort it out, your phone is unlocked, and your US provider or another US provider is willing to set you up with international service, do that. I would gladly have spent an additional $50 to have a fully functioning phone, rather than just data and WiFi only. Tipping: tipping isn't necessarily customary in Ireland. Imagine that, paying your workers a living wage so they don't have to survive off of tips and the whims of others! You will have to force your tip on people like your tour guide, but it's custom to decline the tip several times before finally accepting. Be that American. Aggressively give someone your money, haha. Here are some scenarios: Tour Guide/Driver - Bus/Coach: chip in with everyone else, usually $3-5 per person on a full bus. Tour Guide/Driver - private/hired car: 15-20% of the rate you paid. I tipped $50 on a $400 private day tour. Concierge: see above, a decent and respectable tip for the information you receive. Restaurants: for table service, unnecessary. Possibly rude if you do leave a tip that is just the change in your pocket. Go big or go home, especially if your server has spent time with you giving you advice and being a proxy tour guide. At the Bar: unnecessary. If you do tip, just leave $1 per drink laying at the bar. Coffee Shops: unnecessary. Honestly, I was told by an Irishman that coffee shops basically put out tip jars for Americans because they know it will get filled. They're not wrong. I grabbed a $1-2 coin from my pocket each time. No skin off my back, and it was nice for someone else. Taxis: unnecessary, UNLESS(!!) your driver acts as a proxy tour guide. If they give you great advice, slip them a few euros in cash. It will be rude to tip too little though. You should aim for a meaningful 20% if you're going to do it, or a minimum $5 if your trip was quick but the information was really valuable. Friendly conversation does not necessarily count as tip-worthy in American terms, that's just being nice. And lastly….Heavy/Fat Americans: my friends. My comrades. I am one of you. I am a fat American. I am fat by American standards, and I am really fat by Irish standards. Yes, I can fly on a plane in a single economy/coach seat, and I am perfectly mobile. But I am fat. The high humidity means if you are like me, you will sweat constantly, even when there is no reason to. You will feel out of place. The flight will be uncomfortable because you’re packed in like sardines. You may get some stares because you are obviously “American style fat”, but don’t we get some stares in our home country too? So honestly….if you want to go, then go. Just pack a hand towel to dry off in the car. Use clinical strength antiperspirant. Use body powder on your nether regions. Prepare for a tight squeeze to sit on the toilet sometimes. Always carry some tissues to wipe your brow. Walk at a leisurely pace so you don’t exacerbate your sweatiness, especially if you’re about to enter an enclosed space like a pub or shop. But please, don’t let your size stop you. Life is too short. This trip will be worth it. Tons of other advice I could give would include things like ATMs, cultural norms and ways to avoid being an American asshole, what shoes to bring if you have limited space in your suitcase, and so much more. So if you’re American and you want advice that’s not listed here, reach out! (For reference: I will edit this as needed.) submitted by /u/otterinprogress to r/irishtourism [link] [comments]

How do you actually use a loofah?
Is it as simple as "you put shower gel on it and scrub" because if that's the case, I don't understand what advantages a loofah has over a sponge. With a sponge you can put the shower gel on it, run it under water and then squeeze it to get plenty of suds out. But a loofah just consists of a net which can't do that, so I don't really know whether I'm using mine properly. It's like washing yourself with a hairnet. submitted by /u/TT454 to r/TooAfraidToAsk [link] [comments]

[Routine Help] Finally found a way to manage my combination skin and very uneven tone/texture.
Hello, skincare Reddit! Please bear with me if you can - this is my first textpost on here but I thought it might be helpful to share how I've gotten my skin back on track as I'm always trying to find detailed product recs that actually detail the change in skin types - especially my own. Apologies in advance if I've done anything wrong here! So - as a little background - I have combination/oily t-zone (very shiny), pretty pale, Caucasian skin - slightly sensitive and delicate around the eyes. I had minor acne around 11-18 but now just the odd spot and a few enlarged pores. Open, very stubborn pores, and previously dry on the nose and between the brow. I also suffered with unexplained redness on the nose and cheeks, to the point where I was researching rosacea solutions. First off - I wanted to 'fix' my large, dark pores, and had bought a comedone extractor. Although it initially worked, I started to fixate on picking/squeezing my blackheads/enlarged pores every day, resulting in a peeling nose. I would idly peel the skin and leave a sore red patch - I still have one super large pore that never healed closed. My pores basically stayed the same and now I had dry, peeling skin on my nose to manage, as well as a skin-picking habit that totally consumed me. Cue blindly slathering on drugstore moisturisers and panicking. My skin was very oily, but tight, and very bumpy. The fix for this came when I moved to my boyfriend's and had no magnifying mirror and poor light. I was forced out of my habit and never want to look in a magnifying mirror again. I looked into BHA exfoliator and purchased Starface Night Water, using it every night initially as it seemed to reduce oil, close my pores, and even out my skin tone. Now I use it maybe only twice or three times a week just for maintenance. I cut out spending money on spot treatments as they never really did much for me - I found that the spots were mainly clogged pores, which I suffer less with since using BHA. Hydrocolloid patches don't really seem to 'suck out' anything, but they stop me picking. My personal fix for pimples is just to leave them alone and stop touching my face! Now I'd figured out how to care for spots, my redness had been reduced, and my skin tone/texture had evened out, I needed to work out how to moisturise. Previously I'd just been trying to avoid heavy moisturisers, using only Simple and Nivea daily moisturisers sparingly on my oily skin (I thought I needed to 'dry it out'), and using a heavier, night-time lotion on my dry patches between the brow and on my nose. This resulted in a super oily t-zone. Whilst researching, I found a rec for rosehip oil, reading that - in contrary to what I'd grown up being told - there are oils that are low/non-comedogenic and great for gently moisturising oily skin. If my skin feels a little tight, I use my Lush Vanishing Cream sparingly, or a 2-in-1 radiance serum, and apply hylauronic acid about twice a week for softness. I remove makeup with rose micellar water, and tone/remove leftover makeup with standard rosewater or tea tree toning water. In between, I wash with a tiny bit of any gentle face cleanser and cold/lukewarm water; this has proved really helpful for reducing my redness and dryness, too. I use a konjac sponge (great for very gentle exfoliation and clean, fresh-feeling skin) to remove cleanser, a muslin cloth to remove weekly face masks, and occasionally a facial loofah if my skin's looking dull (though not scrubbing vigorously as I used to - it's more for circulation than removal of dead skin since I leave that to the BHA). Not wearing makeup every day has also been excellent for tone, texture, and dryness/oiliness. The last thing left is for me to find an SPF which works with my skin - I tried an SPF Booster Oil, but that immediately made me break out. My routine: AM - Wash gently with The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm / La Roche-Posay Effaclar purifying foaming gel / Starface Foaming Facial Cleanser, using konjac sponge (rinsing well between each wipe, and squeezing hard and leaving on the radiator after) and cold water. Gently pat dry with a soft towel. Tone with Lush Tea Tree Water spray. Apply The Ordinary Rosehip Oil (1-2 drops) and let it absorb. Apply minimal amount of Starface Moisturiser on Mars / Superdrug Naturally Radiant 2-in-1 Serum and Moisturiser if my skin feels less hydrated, or Lush Vanishing Cream (sparingly) if it feels particularly tight. PM - Remove makeup with Garnier Micellar Rosewater using reusable bamboo fibre rounds. Wash gently with The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm / La Roche-Posay Effaclar purifying foaming gel / Starface Foaming Facial Cleanser, using konjac sponge (rinsing well and squeezing between each wipe) and cold water. (Once a week) Apply full-face Lush Magnaminty Face Mask for half an hour and remove with water and muslin cloth. Gently pat dry with a soft towel. Remove excess makeup and tone with any store-bought rosewater (cheap and often found in cooking / imported foods sections of supermarkets!) using reusable bamboo fibre rounds. (Twice a week) Use Starface Night Water on whole face - wipe off excess, but otherwise leave on. Also twice a week, I apply Superdrug Me+ Hylauronic Acid Booster all over the face. (If pimples) Use hydrocolloid patches and leave overnight. Apply 2 drops of The Ordinary Rosehip Oil to the whole face. Apply thin layer of Lush Vanishing Cream moisturiser. I hope this wasn't totally useless! Please feel free to give advice if you see me making any big mistakes - all of this is just self-taught out of desperation haha. TL/DR; Don't expect your skin to be flawless - oils can work for oily skin too - stop looking in magnifying mirrors - use cold water - use a liquid exfoliant rather than scrubbing - be gentle! submitted by /u/submissivespook to r/SkincareAddiction [link] [comments]

I did the one thing you should NEVER do - break NC.
Hi guys, it's been a while (almost 6 months, yeesh!). I know a few of you have mentioned you've been following my story (basically it's a saga at this point) a while back, but there have been a few reasons I've refrained from posting. For one thing, I did in fact come back a few months ago to post, only to find that one of the posts that week was from none other than my Nex's account! That gave me both a surprise and a visceral, very SC-ish reaction to flee in the opposite direction, as I felt one of my safe spaces was violated. Thankfully, 1) they don't know my account, so there'd be no real way for them to know I was me (heh) even if they happened to go into my history and inspect, and 2) it seems they just did the one post and moved on right after garnering enough sympathy. For another, I violated the one law in the RBN universe that I now know never to break again... I broke NC. Because of this, and because of the conflicting emotions that arose from this, I didn't feel right posting and helping other RBNers along in their paths to recovery as I, in effect, became the 'prodigal son'. Now that I am realizing that letting them back into my life has done all of us who are not in too deep more harm than good, I am unfortunately realizing firsthand just how important it really is to not break the NC rule. So here's the dirty deets of what's happened since my last presence here on RBN (be warned, I tried to simplify but it's still pretty long): I kept strictly NC with anyone except my Edad until about November, when my SO and I had hit a rough patch due to some unrelated issues and broke up. I stayed for a while at a friend's place in another state in order to clear my head, as I couldn't go to my parents home for reasons I don't have to explain here (obviously), and up to that point SO and I had been living together. During that (very vulnerable) time, I was contacted by my father concerning my mother. He told me that she finally broke down and apologized for everything that had transpired. It took 8-11 months, but for the first time in my life I finally got the apology and it hit me hard in the emotional gut. I should have suspected as I was supposedly informed of this by text message, but I never actually received the message. I blamed this on blocking her number and trusted my dad. That's when a lot of things began to change. Initiate major honeymoon phase. My parents bought me a car. I (finally!) got a full-time job. SO and I got back together after resolving our issues. I got a B in a class I've had to retake multiple times due to utterly failing it. SO's family/FOC went down with me to visit my FOO for Christmas. It was all happening so fast my head was literally spinning. I thought my life had hit a major turning point. Then things started going sour. Very, very sour almost as fast as it all had happened. My car broke down two months after I got it. I left my job after two weeks due to it turning out to be somewhat of a scam. SO and I started having issues again due to my major FLEAS (not related to initial issues leading to aforementioned breakup). I nearly dropped out of school out of lack of taking classes due to anticipation of workload of my new job. Cue my depression, which I thought for a romantic period had left me, hitting me 10x as hard as before. I felt really lost and dejected. I was shown the 'right path' I had wanted for so long, and it ended up literally exploding in my face. Then the Ncontact began. It crept into my life, like a boa constrictor slinking casually around you, then ever so gently squeezing you until all of a sudden, you realize you've forgotten how to breathe. SO, seeing where this was going, kept trying to warn me that maybe this all wasn't such a good idea and it might be best to be very wary, but due to our own issues I wasn't much inclined to listen to their advice. It started with a single call. I, foolish me, made the first call to 'make amends'. As normal people do. As we all painfully know, N's are not normal people. It began with a cursory text message, only once a week. We started scheduling, very specifically, once a week times to call, catch up, and rebuild. I started visiting home again. The texting increased from once per week to once a day, back to ten times a day. The calling increased to a couple times a week, to calling me multiple times in a row and leaving multiple voicemails on random, nonsensical updates on her life and 'just saying hi', all just as she used to. They started reverting when I was visiting their house and I started drinking entire bottles of wine in order to be able to be in the same company of them, like I used to. All the old fears started coming back. My depression hit an all-time low to the point where SO started begging me to see a psychologist. I stopped taking care of myself. It all finally came together for me this weekend. SO insisted on coming with me this time/I asked them after last time to not let me go alone again, as I tended to drink myself into a stupor each time I was down, and they wanted to give me the option of peeling out of there even if I did drink (they voluntarily went sober the entire time). We drove down, turns out my Edad was very sick. As some of you know, Nmom is a physician so she was feeling super-useful the whole time. SO cooked for my family - they like to cook and are good at it, and Nmom was apparently recovering from the sickness as well and 'didn't want to give it to us' through her cooking. SO made a delicious meatloaf with other accoutrements, a dish that can be easily reheated once Edad is feeling better and can feed them for a couple of days. Turns out, Edad hates meatloaf. We are not allowed to call it meatloaf, or anything related to meatloaf... we instead have to call it by the name of a meat that SO used to enhance the flavor of the dish, which happens to be a very ethnic name that is related to my SO's ethnicity. This is a particularly hard blow as SO spent 3+ hrs making the food for my family, and this dish was chosen after I spent half an hour going through my parents likes, dislikes, and possible allergens. I get drunk again. Despite all this, Nmom still 'attempts' to eat the meal and we say grace. During this grace, Nmom grabs my bare forearm and starts squeezing it in a pulsating manner without my permission, making me feel violated, dirty, and disturbed. The grace only lasted 30 seconds, but the entire time I found myself revisiting a happy place I only go to when I feel incredibly uncomfortable. I attempt to block the experience out of my mind. SO is forced to sleep that night, after taking the time to make such a beautiful meal, by themselves in a dirty bed, with a mattress that is not much more than a cot and is 20+ yrs old/busted to boot, which is covered in dust and woodchips. SO is very allergic to dust. This all in a room that essentially has always been used as my parents' storage room and barely has a door. I sleep in my old room that has now been entirely repainted, recarpeted, and now decorated to Nmom's liking. It is now Nmom's 2nd room. There are many pictures of herself everywhere, at various ages, all staring back at me as I try to sleep. I have nightmares and wake up several times throughout the night. The next morning (yesterday), Nmom wakes up very early and blares Bible music in the kitchen as she does whatever she does in the kitchen (certainly not cook, as she then made us breakfast 3 hours later). SO's 'room' is right next to the kitchen, music wakes them. SO stays inside room so as not to disturb the peace. I wake up a little while later and go downstairs, rouse SO, Nmom makes us breakfast. Since Nmom's kitchen is never used and they have this weird belief that once you buy something, you don't have to buy a replacement for 5+ years, I have to do some spoilage checking to make sure Nmom doesn't use out-of-date items like.... oh, I don't know... yearlong expired pancake mix (???) or crystallized vanilla extract (?!?! how old is this shit??), not to mention the Keurig with a water container that smells strongly of algae due to never being cleaned (:X). We somehow survive the breakfast without contracting botulism and go into the other room to chat after a lot of algae-free coffee on my part (due in part to a hangover, in part to the hours of driving done the day previous). Nothing important happened during the conversation, but Edad called down to have Nmom take care of him and when we were alone, I started snapping at SO due to the stress and FLEAS. SO looks at me and says, 'I want to leave. Now.' I pause and look at the situation, and then agree with them. We start packing before Nmom comes back downstairs. Nmom returns to see us packing, and starts saying how wonderful it was to have us, how sweet SO is, how she must pay for our gas on our way back. I agree and she follows me to the gas station. She pays for my gas and starts hugging me in front of all the truckers (...), saying how her and my Edad really want to come up and visit sometime. I am immediately glad that they still don't know our address and return to the car. We hit the highway and I'm driving faster than normal. The breakfast hits us an hour in and SO and I are starting to have major gastrointestinal distress. Apparently I might have missed a few items during the spoilage checks. SO and I, just short of our apartment, can't wait to carry our things, walk up the stairs, unlock the door, etc. and hit a set of public bathrooms close to our apartments. We do not exit the bathrooms for nearly 1/2 an hour, and both leave breaking out in a sweat. We both vow never to eat my Nmother's cooking again. We both feel fairly weak the rest of the day. After all this, I come home and can't stop thinking about the arm-grabbing incident. I still felt dirty and like I needed to take a shower with a very coarse loofah sponge. It got me to thinking, every time my Nmom touches me, I can't help but feeling dirty. Every time she had hugged me that weekend, or kissed me on the cheek or neck, I felt like I wanted to crawl away into a corner. This led me to remember, locked away in my brain for trigger purposes, all the other times she had ever made skin contact with me. I always had an involuntary, very visceral reaction, and always left feeling gross - then locked it away so I never had to think about it again. I asked SO, 'has anyone ever touched you and you felt... violated or dirty? Even though it wasn't in a sexual manner.' SO says no, and if they did they were no longer in their life. I start crying, feeling like an awful daughter for some reason. SO hugs me and says it will be okay, and suggesting that maybe it is best for my wellbeing that I return to NC. I feel worse and cry harder, but after some thought realize that as much as I hoped that they would change, they genuinely haven't, and essentially lured me back in all over again. So now, here I am, today, back to square one and preparing to go LC/NC again. Moral of the story? N's are relentless. They will not stop. They will not go quietly into that good night and never bother you again. You have to be callous with them as they are callous with you. It is tough because we are all empathetic people and respond to them as if they are normal, emotionally and mentally healthy individuals, when they aren't any of these things. They are crafty and they WILL lure you in - trust me, I thought my parents are above that due to their 'breeding'. Turns out they are not. I know my parents aren't as extreme as others on here, so I hope that others take my story to heart so that worse things don't happen to other people. Be safe. Only give your time to those who truly care about your wellbeing. Please please please trust me on this, and don't find out for yourself like I did. I'm still a total wreck because of all of this.... EDIT1: Are people not doing the flair stuff anymore? I went to edit my horribly long flair, looked at the front page and the mods and it seems I'm the awkward one with an entire article as my flair. :/ EDIT2/UPDATE: SO and I are very sick and bedridden, causes are unknown but considering the food we both ate yesterday it's kind of suspect. Sorry if I cannot answer any more comments for now. submitted by /u/bankofamurrica to r/raisedbynarcissists [link] [comments]

How to keep a loofah/exfoliating sponge from getting stinky?
I know this is only tangentially beauty-related, but I'm not really sure where else to ask this! I use a loofah to exfoliate my underarms and legs before shaving. Since I use it on my underarms, I've noticed that the sponge starts to smell like armpit after a few uses. And it is definitely a noticeable stink! I tried to combat this by getting a new loofah and also using a scented body wash when I exfoliate my underarms, but it doesn't seem to have helped any. Has anyone else had this issue before? Any ideas on how I can keep this from happening? Because exfoliating has done wonders for shaving my underarms, and I really don't want to give it up. submitted by /u/HobbitGirl91 to r/beauty [link] [comments]
