Probably got weeks, maybe couple months at best. I am 22, don’t own a house, don’t own my car. Have maybe £2k in the bank. So I took out a credit card, 6.5k limit, 0% APR for 20 months. (I was previously building up a good credit score) and am now buying whatever the fuck I want. The debt will die with me, and I give no fucks. And if you want to beef me about driving your bank fees up with this behaviour, at least you get to live. lol EDIT:: Thank you all for your amazing responses. Unfortunately it’s bone cancer that has spread through my whole body, so I’m too weak now to travel far, as much as I would have wanted to see the world. I’m going to go bigger, and do some good stuff, if you have ideas. I want to do some big donations to food banks and cancer charities that supported me through my journey and make some differences before I pop. Alsos shame on you all of you asking me for money. UPDATE 2: Took out some more cards, thanks for the suggestions Some of you asking, I’m a girl haha I’ve bought lots of things for my family, mostly sentimental things with my handwriting on. I bought a crab at a fancy ass seafood place. That was awesome I’ve donated to animal shelters and food banks. Also to the cancer charities who helped drag my ass through this. Also can y’all stop telling me to find Jesus, I respect those of you who are praying for me, because I know that’s your way of thinking of me and I’m really touched by that. But finding god is in no way in my plans and not what I believe will happen after death, trying to force religion down a dying persons throat is really not the vibe. Update 3: Still hanging on, I’ve deteriorated quite a lot now, lost a lot of functionality in my body at this point so I’m bedbound and mostly just watching lots of TV and seeing family. But I’m comfortable, eating apples and cheese and lots of little treats. Thank you all for still checking in and thinking of me. I’m really fortunate to be surrounded by my friends and family right now, when you boil it all down to it in the end, it really is all you need. Update January 18 2026 (9 Months Later) by u/infinityangel26 - Her twin Sister (UPDATE 4 from her twin sister) I managed to track down this post whilst going through her phone and saw it blow up. She passed away peacefully in July, surrounded by her family, dogs and multiple credit cards. She did a lot of good, including buying refurbs for local primary and pre-schools and making a lot of improvements in the community. To those saying it would be passed to us: no, it was wiped and cleared. She had no inheritance, not a penny to her name since she was only 22 and didn’t have those adult things like life insurance or mortgages. Green- my landlord's name Red- exhusband's name Hi, i (31F) have been living in my apartment since November 2024. I like the landlord, she picks up the check in-person every month and we've developed great rapport. We've talked about our lives, and over the past several months, she went through a nasty divorce. I could tell it was wearing her down and was a little worried. Today, i got this notice on my door from her exhusband. As far as I know, they've officially split, but he is requesting payment for my rent – and, like the letter says, I cannot reach my LL at all. No calls, texts, nothing reaches her. About my lease: My lease says ONLY my LL's name – not the exhusband. However, i believe they owned the property under a shared LLC. My lease does not list the LLC either. Also, most leases have all the LL contact info. I only have an email and phone number for her. About the LL: No idea what happened to her. I've asked the neighbors, and nobody knows where she went. The only person I haven't asked yet is her sister, who lives in our building, but she wouldn't open the door when I'd knock. About the exhusband: I don't know much about him. I only met him once, and he introduced himself as the owner, implying he's a sole owner. My LL later told me he doesn't really own the home and she manages all their properties. Tl;dr: My LL, who I pay in-person, has gone MIA and her exhusband is asking to collect rent. This feels very weird and shady. I don't know where she went. What do I do? What would you do? UPDATE: I contacted the police dispatch, they've sent the info to all local deputies since I don't know the address. They are going to try and find her and I will keep my phone ringer on in case they need any info from me. LEASE CLARIFICATION: Someone asked about payment method on my lease but Reddit won't allow me to locate or reply to their comment... So, my lease says "check or Zelle" under payment method. However, she's never actually set up her Zelle as far as I know and even when I'd offer to pay via Zelle while traveling for work, she wanted to wait until I'd get back in town. So, I always paid by check in-person. UPDATE 2: I woke up and had no missed calls. I called the police to ask for a status update and they say they did call me... We figure out that my phone had some kind of filter for blocked or unknown numbers. I didn't know- but a police officer will call me back today. UPDATE 3: Police said she is safe! I wasn't given more info besides that. But she still hasn't contacted me and I can't reach her. My parents are helping me get in contact with a lawyer, but holding the rent in an escrow account until legally obligated otherwise seems like the right move. If I find out what happened to her, i will update the post. UPDATE 3.5: She wasn't jailed, at least not in the past five days. Someone suggested I look at recent arrests so, on my lunch break, I looked at all the arrests in the past five days. I didn't see her, or her exhusband. But I looked through them to make sure they weren't arrested under a different name. Also, I didn't mention in the post that I immediately reached out to the exhusband via text introducing myself and asking if she was okay- I didn't think too much about it when I did this, I was just really concerned and assumed he'd at least confirm her wellbeing, considering her personal relationship with her tenants. But he didn't respond, and, as it got late in the night without any answers, that's when I started feeling really worried and uncertain, calling the police for a wellness check. I checked my texts and we're into noon the next day, and he still hasn't responded. I don't know yet if I'll make further attempts to reach him or not, I'll review with legal counsel and make sure the money is set aside properly for the LL. UPDATE 4: We decided to reach out to the exhusband again to confirm his identity and then establish whether he has power of attorney to legally accept rent in her name. The results of this conversation will determine how to settle the rent. I still do not know the fate of my landlord, but I did finally catch the LL's sister outside my building. As I explained in the comments, she is often drunk, but is generally quiet and sweet otherwise. When I saw her, she was clearly distraught, but I couldn't learn much. I asked about her sister, she cried, we hugged, and I walked her back to her apartment. I don't know how many updates there will be from here as the small legal details get sorted out- so I just want to thank you all for kindly offering support. It made me chuckle in the middle of my workday when I'd see AssButtTittyLickin3000 offer insightful advice on my situation... As a lurker, this post just reached way more people than I ever expected. I only posted because I felt stun locked by the situation, and needed a nudge in the right direction. But I'm still worried about my LL, even though the police confirmed she's not missing, and that she's safe. I just have an awful feeling I won't hear from her again, or it will be a long time until I do. The family is being very tight lipped about what happened. It's funny how just a couple months ago, she was pressing me on how important it was to add more safety features to my apartment. I'd insist she didn't have to go all out since I felt adequately safe, plus she was still getting settled after the divorce. But no matter how hard I insisted she didn't have to worry, she'd still send me texts at 3am with more ideas to make my apartment safer, haha. Crazy lady... True, she hasn't gotten along with every tenant in our building. She does get emotional and paranoid about small things. But, even before this happened, I felt she was a good person who deserved way more in life than what she got. Please pray or send good thoughts towards this woman. I will still update the thread if I hear what happened to her. Thank you again. UPDATE 5: The ex-husband politely confirmed he will provide evidence that he's legally allowed to collect rent in the LL's name, and that my LL is unavailable due to health reasons he couldn't disclose. As far as the money, I'm still waiting for the paperwork or evidence from him. Even if he is well-intentioned, I cannot pay my rent to him without my LL's approval or if he had power of attorney due to my lease. The money is being safely set aside until then. I've also met other residents from other properties going through this same ordeal. Some haven't gotten a response from the ex-husband at all. Other details I will only be able to share only once this situation is resolved. However, considering the police confirmed the LL is safe, she is likely getting care she is needing, whatever the health concern may be. I have been researching since that original wellness check, but that's all I can say for now. UPDATE 6: I spoke with my LL on the phone! It was a very brief conversation, she asked if we could get coffee next week. She sounded well, I assume she pulled through her health issues that her sister and exhusband hinted at. My husband works a fairly lucrative office job and is a great help with the finances and bills for our house while I tackle a BA at college at the moment. For that I am very grateful, and I love him very much and we are generally happy with the marriage. However, about two months ago he asked me if I wouldn't mind preparing breakfast for him and a couple of co-workers a few times a week. Of course I agreed, because I know how rushed things can be in the mornings for some people and I was glad to see my husband fraternizing with his colleagues. Also, we have a beautiful home and it's always nice to have people over for meals. I get along with his co-workers very well for the most part, which is a plus. This has been going on for two months and I didn't used to mind it much at first, but I feel that "a couple of mornings a week" has turned into nearly the entire week, and it is too much for me. Getting up early and preparing eggs, bacon, multiple pots of coffee when there are more than just a couple of co-workers over, and occasionally stuff like pancakes and french toast. I attend night classes several nights a week and don't get a chance to sleep in as much as I would like to. How do I [respectfully] tell my husband to tone it down a little with these morning visits without hurting his or his co-workers' feelings? I do not want to jeopardize his relationship with the people at work and don't want to push him or our visitors away. It has just become too much for me! tl;dr: My husband who I love very much asked me to make breakfast for him and his co-workers a couple of days a week. Do they compensate for the food? Since my husband pays for 80% the groceries, it would be unfair of me to charge for food that is essentially not mine. Do they help clean? Nope, I have to do all the dishes after they leave. Pots, pans, bowls, dishes, cups, coffee mugs and clean out the expensive coffee machine we have. Every morning. What is this costing? The breakfasts run us back anywhere from 280-350 a week. With my husband's salary we are more than covered on that front. Money is absolutely no object when it comes to the breakfast parties... Update Nov 6, 2015 (4 days later) Hello everyone. I want to thank all of you who helped me out and gave me great advice and sympathy in the original thread. I had mentioned several times that I was going to sit down with my husband this Saturday and have a stern talk, but I'm sure a lot of you will be pleased to know it happened much sooner. I decided to stay home from night class on Wednesday night so that I could speak to him as soon as he arrived from work. He was very surprised to see me still in the house, as I have night class every night of the week. I brought up many good points from the thread and told him how it made me all feel. I told him the 3-4 breakfast parties a week and co-workers visits through the day were keeping me from focusing on my studies, and that thinking of a menu every morning was stressful and gave me anxiety. Also the tapping on the window from random visits by his colleagues made me feel unsafe as well. These were all points brought up by Redditors in the thread and a lot of things I had never thought about myself. There were tears and some loud moments, the first time this has happened since we've been together. But when I told him I had made a thread on reddit, he went absolutely ballistic. He did not get to see the thread. At that point I went to our bedroom and confined myself to the bed. A couple of hours later, he came in, got in bed and said that he was very disappointed in me, and that was that. Yesterday morning, Thursday, everything was the same as usual. He woke up smiling and radiant as always, and got ready for work quicker than usual. He came out to the kitchen while I was making the breakfast for the day and told me that he was glad everything had been cleared. I gave him spare replies and didn't feel like looking at him. He was shocked to see that I had only made a basic breakfast for him. He told me other people were on the way and I told him I had to catch the bus to the library to do research on a paper for class (another redditor suggestion). We had a loud argument that stopped when people arrived at our house. I stormed out and went about my business. No words between any of us since then. Today I did the same, except I left the house while he was getting ready. It is very sad that it all came to this, but I hope things settle down. My plan is to have another talk with him tomorrow morning and tell him that I am willing to cut the breakfasts down to Mondays and Wednesdays only and that all visits from co-workers are to end immediately because I do not feel comfortable with them using our home as a rest stop. My (41m) spouse (42f) and I had plans to go hiking and have dinner with friends. We made our kids (16m and 12f) sandwiches for lunch and called my spouse’s mom and ask to bring the kids dinner because we would be gone into the evening. We also told the kids we would be out late. We have left our kids at home alone multiple times and we fully trust them. We just wanted to make sure they had something decent instead of warming something up, hence asking MIL to bring food. Not once did we ask her to stay nor did we expect her to. We have told her many times, you can stay and watch tv (due to her not having internet) if she wants, but she never has to stay. My spouse and I have an amazing day with great friends and after dinner, they wanted to go back to their place to hang out more, next thing we know, it’s super late and we get a call from MIL asking where are we. We were just about to head home any way and said we would be home soon. Flash forward to arriving home and my MIL is sitting in the living room of my house fuming. No TV on or anything. I’d love to say she was sitting in the dark, but she wasn’t that dramatic. She starts getting angry at us commenting what time it is and how our 16 year old shouldn’t be up that late. *Side note, we don’t let him stay up that late all the time, but trying to manage a 16 year old is hard enough as it is. 12 year old had already called it a night and was asleep. Now I’m a little upset because I don’t like being accosted in my own home and being treated like a child sneaking in. I proceed to tell her she did not have to stay, she was only supposed to grab dinner. She then tells us how disrespectful it is for not telling her where we were and why we were coming home so late. Now, if she had said this in a caring tone, or even worried, this would not be a problem. This came off in a very angry tone. Even when leaving she slammed the front door. Now today she is saying it wasn’t about when we came home but rather she was worried and we did not tell her when we were coming home or where we were. She said “you said you were going hiking and to dinner!” That statement is truth, we just went with the flow and added more onto the evening.
