I made a free Blender addon to clean up AI-generated 3D meshes
Hey! I made a free Blender addon called AI Mesh Optimizer. It cleans up AI-generated meshes from tools like Hunyuan, Tripo, Meshy, Rodin, etc. in one click: removes loose geometry, fixes normals, merges duplicate vertices, and adds smart decimation. Example: 1.5M faces → ~22k faces, keeping the silhouette usable for games / realtime / mobile / VR. Want an AI to color an existing monochrome STL? Meshy can do that!
Sorry for sounding like an advert, I promise you I had to pay the monthly subscription myself and no one is giving me anything for this post. So here's the situation: you see a nice 3D model in makerworld / printables / wherever with a gorgeous color cover image, and you're eager to print it in your Snapmaker U1 but it turns out the model is monochrome. The cover was just an AI render or something. So you either painstakingly color it manually in (Sn)Orca or give up because it's too much work. Sound familiar? Well I just subscribed to Meshy and found out you there's a tool to color stuff (actually it's called texturing. And then there's another one to prep for printing that reduces the colors to any number you want, like 4). And you can import a pre-existing STL and use an existing image. So here's an example: https://makerworld.com/en/models/2782470-pokemon-charizard-chibi-monocolor Here's what the original model looks like: https://imgur.com/Z1gb06n.jpg Here's after texturing + prepping for print with 4 colors (it lost some beauty): https://imgur.com/sec3YWA.jpg Here it is in the slicer: https://imgur.com/JXEc2Gv.jpg Again, not an ad, I'm in no way affiliated with them, and I only subscribed a few days ago. Other services might do the same but I have no idea which. It's just something that I always wish existed and turns out it does. Before anyone asks, no it doesn't generate Full Color Spectrum files. But you can prep for printing using more colors and use that I guess. submitted by /u/joazito to r/snapmaker [link] [comments]

Converting AI Image into 3D Print File?
New to 3D printing. I wanted to 3D print a sign I created but when I've used Meshy to try to convert it into .stl, it doesn't fully capture the words or images. Any recommendations on a good site to do this? submitted by /u/Intelligent_Rich6412 to r/BambuLab [link] [comments]

I made MoGen. Free, open source, BYOK solution to text/image -> 3D generation
Hey folks. I've hacked together MoGen and just put up the first release for people to try. I'm only posting it in this sub for now. Put simply, it's a desktop app called "Mogen Studio" which is free, open source with no sign up. You just need to bring your own key. Mogen is not like Meshy, it can use any LLM. LLMs suck at drawing triangles. The AI writes a tiny script (a DSL language called MOG) describing the *parts* of the thing, and algorithms turn that script into actual geometry. So you get clean, predictable meshes instead of melted blobs. What you can do with it: Type a prompt, get a model. That's the main thing. Tweak it after - "make the legs taller", "add a handle on top" - and it edits the existing model instead of starting from scratch. Add animation the same way - "spin the rotor" or "flap the wings". It does textures too (PBR, so they look right under lighting). Pick your AI: Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, Claude Code or local Ollama. While this feels nice and open, Gemini Pro is really the only model that is decent at thinking about spatial things. If you experience something different, please let me know. I could really use testers for: Does it actually install cleanly on your machine? (Especially Windows - that path is the freshest.) Weird stuff in the desktop app - crashes, broken previews, gizmos behaving badly. Prompts that produce garbage. Send me the prompt, I want to see it. Anything that just feels annoying to use. Repo + downloads: https://krazyjakee.github.io/MoGen/ It's free and MIT licensed. Built solo in my spare time, so there are definitely sharp edges - but it's at the point where I think it's actually fun to use, and I'd love to know what breaks for other people. submitted by /u/krazyjakee to r/aigamedev [link] [comments]

Would it be wrong to use AI 3d modeling websites to make miniatures for tabletop games?
There are a bunch of stuff I want to turn into models for tabletop games, but they either don't have STL files or cost more than I want to spend on just a file. I've only just learned the basics of blender and how to pose models in it, and everyone I've talked to about making the for me (on Etsy or 3d model making subreddits) would charge me hundreds of dollars. Because of this, I'm thinking of using either Meshi AI or Tripo AI to generate models of the characters I want and then editing them in blender before turning them into STL files. However, I feel hesitant to do this. I know about all the bad things people say about AI and a part of my brain is telling me it would be wrong to do this. I'm looking to make models of characters from Yugioh cards, Bionicle, and Touhou. For the latter two, I'm thinking of taking images of statues or toys of the characters from various angels so the program could more accurately render them. But for the Yugioh cards, because of how limited the perspective is on the cards, I might have to use fanart to get a more accurate model. But I feel like it would be wrong to do that. Would it be wrong to use those programs? Am I overthinking this? submitted by /u/AlternativeDisaster7 to r/stupidquestions [link] [comments]

Best AI for turning reference images into accurate 3D figurines (STL-ready)?
I’m looking for an AI tool or workflow that can convert a reference image into a highly accurate 3D figurine (STL-ready for resin printing). I’ve already tried Meshy, Rodin, Tripo, Hunyuan, and STLBuddy, but none of them produced results that are usable for production. My main requirements: • Accurate facial likeness (very important) • Correct proportions (no distorted head/body ratios unless intended) • Clean, printable geometry (minimal fixing needed) • Preserved fine details (clothing folds, small features, etc.) • Preferably works well for single-image input The output will be used for resin 3D printing and silicone mold master models, so it needs to be production-quality, not just visual. If you’ve found any AI tools, pipelines, or even hybrid workflows (AI + manual cleanup) that actually work for this level of accuracy, I’d really appreciate your recommendations. submitted by /u/mythmachinex to r/3DprintingHelp [link] [comments]

Offer to turn your images into a printable 3d object- Mod approved
Hello everyone! I wanted to offer everyone the chance to have some of your really creative characters and monsters into a real printable 3d object. I have been working on a project that led me to getting credits on meshi.ai (I am not affiliated with them at all). So please post your images and I will make as many of them as I can. I am including things that will a) get the most bang for my credits and b) make it so that I don't have to do any pre-processing the images to make it work. The most important thing is for there to be no background. if your image has a background, you can use Gemini or ChatGPT to remove them with a simple "please remove the background" prompt. The other thing that will make the most of my credits will be if you can have multiple characters or monsters in a single image, stitched together in paint should be fine :) I tend to limit it to 4 medium sized or 2 larger sized ones. See images with the goblins to see an example of what I mean. I have also included images of models I made with Meshy, and a couple of what they can look like 3d printed (though I have only printed small creatures so far) I will do this until my credits run out :) EDIT, Please make sure the image is full body, and in a pose you want otherwise it will just make a partial based on the image. Also I am limited in how much screen time I can use at once, so this might take a while but I will do my best to get them done as soon as I can :) EDIT 2 please download the files in the next 10 days, as otherwise they will be deleted by gofile. submitted by /u/notamaster to r/dndai [link] [comments]

Are there any Free 3D AI image to 3D model generators like Meshy AI?
I've been trying tipo AI till my credits ran out and it's really good. But as good a meshy, from what I have tried. But you cannot download anything on meshy without paying. I'm looking for anything that could do a decent job that's generally free and doesn't need credits. Or at least a cheaper one. All are like just 15-30 bucks a month. Any ideas on how to get around this or other methods of programs and apps that could do this? Thanks 🙏🏻 submitted by /u/Unique-Row-9595 to r/3Dprinting [link] [comments]

Tripo P1.0 Smart LowPoly Mesh Just Dropped + 3D AI Updates Hitem3D and Meshy 6
The 3D AI space keeps moving fast again this week, with fresh updates from Tripo, Hitem3D, and Meshy. Tripo P1.0 is the biggest one here. Tripo just launched Smart Mesh in Tripo Studio, aimed at turning prompts into more structured, production-ready 3D meshes in around ~2 seconds. Highlights: ~2 second generation smart topology more structured mesh output positioned for production-ready assets built with game pipelines, real-time rendering, web 3D tools, and scalable content workflows in mind From the preview, the main pitch is pretty clear: faster prompt-to-mesh generation with cleaner topology and more usable outputs right away, which is exactly the direction a lot of 3D AI users want. The other 2 updates are smaller, but still interesting: Hitem3D 2.0 focused on stronger texture reconstruction claims better full 3D texture recovery from a single front-facing 2D image includes detail reconstruction even for hidden/back-side areas Meshy showed a seamless PBR texture workflow generating base, normal, roughness, and height maps from text prompts more about speeding up texturing and reducing manual cleanup 👉 Compare the latest AI 3D models side-by-side on our 3D AI Arena: https://www.top3d.ai/compare submitted by /u/Certain_Friendship16 to r/TopologyAI [link] [comments]

[US] Commission: Convert a 2D image to a printable 3D model (STL) + print/shipping
Looking for help with a small tabletop token/objective marker set. I have a simple 2D symbol (PNG). I need a clean, printable STL made from it, then printed and shipped. Target size is roughly 40–60mm across, and I’ll want a few small variations of the same design. Resin is preferred for sharp edges, but FDM is fine if you think it’ll still hold detail at that size. I tested an AI image-to-3D pass in Meshy as a rough starting point, but I’m not assuming it’s print-ready. If it’s easier to rebuild cleanly from the 2D image, that works too. If this is something you can take on, I can share the image and exact sizing details in the thread once you’ve replied here. submitted by /u/Logical_Use5186 to r/3Dprintmything [link] [comments]

Using AI to generate game assets when you can't afford to hire a 3D artist
I'm a solo indie dev working on my first game and the budget is basically zero. Can't afford to hire 3D artists and my own modeling skills are pretty basic. Been experimenting with AI generation to fill the gap. Not gonna pretend AI can replace a real artist for everything but for a solo dev on a tight budget it's been really helpful for certain types of assets. What's worked well for me is using AI for environment props and filler objects. Rocks, trees, crates, barrels, furniture, all that background stuff that fills out a scene. I use text-to-3D generation with prompts like "low poly wooden crate game asset" or "stylized fantasy rock formation." Generate a bunch of variations, import to my engine, and populate the environment. The quality isn't perfect but for background objects that players aren't examining closely it's good enough. And I can generate 20 variations in the time it would take me to model one properly. I'm using Meshy for most of this. The text-to-3D feature is pretty straightforward and the batch processing means I can queue up a bunch of assets and let it run while I work on other stuff. It also generates PBR textures which is helpful because I'm terrible at texturing. For more specific designs I'll sketch something rough and use image-to-3D. This works better when I need something that matches my game's art style. The sketch doesn't have to be good, just clear enough to show the basic shape. What I'm not using AI for is characters, weapons, or any hero assets. Those need way more control and polish than AI generation provides. For those I'm either doing very simple placeholder models or saving up to commission proper assets. The time savings are significant though. Before using AI I was spending most of my time on asset creation and barely any time on actual game development. Now I can focus on gameplay, mechanics, and polish while AI handles the bulk of environment assets. Some challenges I've run into - the topology from AI generation isn't always optimized so I usually need to run a quick retopo pass. The art style consistency can be hit or miss depending on how good your prompts are. And you still need basic Blender skills to clean things up and optimize for your target platform. But overall for a solo dev with no budget this has been a game changer. I'm actually making progress on my game instead of spending months modeling props. Is anyone else using AI for game assets on a budget? What's been your experience? submitted by /u/Ok-Line2658 to r/construct [link] [comments]

How to convert 2D image to 3D model online - free vs paid tools comparison for printing
I've been testing different online tools to convert 2D images into printable 3D models. Here's what I found after trying several platforms: What I tested: Free heightmap converters (Image → STL) AI-powered image-to-3D generators Photogrammetry web apps CAD-based extrusion tools My test case: Converting product logos and simple mechanical parts (brackets, clips, custom enclosures) into STL files for printing. Tool Category 1: Heightmap Converters (Free) Examples: Selva3D, ImageToSTL Pros: Completely free Works for relief/embossed designs Fast processing Cons: Only creates surface relief, not true 3D volumes Struggles with complex shapes Often needs heavy mesh repair before slicing Best for: Flat logos, coins, decorative plaques Tool Category 2: AI Image-to-3D (Freemium) I've been using Meshy for this Pros: Generates actual closed 3D meshes, not just heightmaps Handles multi-angle photos well (supports 1-4 images) Outputs are usually watertight and slice-ready Has a free tier to test it out Cons: Very thin details can merge together Complex organic shapes sometimes need cleanup Free tier has usage limits Best for: Functional parts, props, prototypes with volume Tool Category 3: Photogrammetry Web Apps Examples: Polycam web version, Meshroom (desktop) Pros: Extremely accurate for real objects Great texture capture Cons: Requires many photos for good results Output meshes can be very dense Needs serious retopology before printing Most are desktop apps, not truly "online" Best for: Scanning existing objects, not creating from flat images My workflow now: For flat graphics → 3D badges/keychains: → Heightmap converter (quick and free) For product photos → functional parts: → Meshy's Image-to-3D (upload a few angles, export STL, minimal cleanup needed) For exact replicas of physical objects: → Photogrammetry (but expect significant cleanup time) The key difference: Heightmap tools give you surface detail**.** AI tools give you volumetric models**.** Photogrammetry gives you exact replicas (with a time cost). What tools are you using for image → 3D conversions? Any hidden gems I missed? submitted by /u/Such-Surround-1353 to r/CR6 [link] [comments]

Meshy AI vs Tripo vs Luma: Which image-to-3D tool actually works?
Was messing around with some logo-to-STL conversions this week. I tried 3 tools: Meshy, Tripo, and Luma. Luma looked pretty but gave me triangle soup. Tripo was cleaner but I couldn’t export to STL without weird normals. Meshy ended up working best when I just wanted a watertight mesh with simple extrusion. None of them were perfect, but Meshy got me from sketch → keychain STL in ~6 minutes. Would love to hear if anyone’s gotten good results with more niche tools? Or do we all just repair them in Blender anyway? submitted by /u/BookwormSarah1 to r/3Dprintmything [link] [comments]

People hate AI images, but what about Meshy AI and 3D models?
Most of the fighting I see is still about 2D stuff – “AI images aren’t art”, “you didn’t make that”, dataset drama, etc. Lately I’ve been playing with a 3D generator called Meshy AI (not affiliated). And yeah, AI can make 3D models now. You can type a sentence or drop in a concept image and get a rough 3D model out of it that’s good enough for blockouts, previs, simple animation tests, whatever, as long as you’re willing to clean it up a bit. It’s not “press button, get perfect asset”, but it’s also not the old cursed DALL·E mini vibe anymore. So in this whole AI art war, where does AI 3D sit for you? If you already hate AI images, do AI-generated 3D models from something like Meshy feel worse, better, or just “the same thing in 3D”? And if you’re using it, do you honestly see it as just another tool, or do you also kind of feel like junior 3D artists are going to get hit even harder? submitted by /u/Zealousidevcb to r/aiwars [link] [comments]

Image to 3D vs Text to 3D using 3daistudio
Here's a little experiment I was doing, what's better, text to 3d or AI generated image to 3d? All of these were made using the same prompt, so the same prompt went on the images as the 3d models. I kept it incredibly simplistic, of course, to judge what can translate a simple concept better but you be the judge. Top is the image + the model, bottom is the model from just the text imput. In my personal opinion I like text to 3d better, but from my personal experience using these tools like 3daistudio or meshy you almost always get better results from an image, generating an image is much much cheaper, and there's some pretty good fidelity from the image to the model, so in a practical scenario I would suggest just generate images until you like them (or if you can draw them or get some concept art of them that's much better) and then generate it afterwards. But if it has to be strictly from text... well... here are the results. submitted by /u/Former_Food_7968 to r/aigamedev [link] [comments]
