My daughter(29) will be getting her M.A. soon, and she assumed I would take my mom to her graduation. She only gets 5 tickets and wants me (54), my mom (87), her dad, step-mom, and half-sister to attend. I told her I did not want to wheel my mom in her wheelchair across campus, up hills, for who knows how far. It's too much. So she called my son, whom she is inviting to view the graduation in the overflow room, and asked him to drive my mom and push the wheelchair to the graduation building. She then wants me to push my mom to the graduation floor. The main responsibility for my mom's care has fallen on me for several years, and I'm tired of having to take her to all the family graduations, funerals, parties, and events, and wait on her while missing out on parts of the event and enjoying family. When I do, my mom bosses me around, treats me like her nursemaid, and guilts me into doing things I don't want to do. She is also incontinent, and if she spends several hours away from home, she often wets herself to the point where it soaks through her diapers, and she can't smell herself or isn't aware of it until I tell her. I finally recruited my siblings this last year to start taking turns taking her to dinners every other weekend, but I still have to take her to all the events, or no one will do it. I missed my nephew's graduation because I wanted someone to step up and take my mom, and no one did. I also quit going to family reunions, and my brother said, "What, you can't give your mom a ride?" Now I feel like I have to also miss my daughter's graduation because even if my son drives her over there, I know I'm going to either get roped in and bossed around by my mom and not be able to enjoy the day, or I'm going to look bad and feel stressed out by not helping my mom. My daughter said I am making her choose between her mom and her grandma, but I told her that I just don't want to be there with my mom. I've tried to get the grandkids, including my kids, to also take turns taking her out, but they are too busy. AITA if I don't go to my daughter's graduation because I'm just tired and worn out and want a boundary to be set so other people in the family will quit assuming that I'm going to take mom. Edit: My mom still lives on her own. When I say I care for her, it's because she depends on me when she has a problem. If she falls or gets ill, it's me. She refuses to move in with any of us until she is 90. She still drives herself short distances during the day to doctor's appointments and the grocery store, even though we all think she shouldn't. She can change herself, but this usually leaves a lingering odor wherever it happens. She can't walk long distances, hence the wheelchair, but she can get around inside her house with a walker. I used to be the one picking her up every weekend until this last year, when 3 of my 5 siblings started taking turns, so I only have her every other weekend. I (F30s) was married to James (M30s) for several years and we had two sons together. He ended up with a prescription medication problem and that led to him screwing the woman who was giving him the pills. Their affair lasted months or maybe longer before I found out. The woman got pregnant and I divorced James. He had limited access to our sons until he got off the medications and then he slowly built up his custody. While that was going on James' affair partner had a baby girl and she gave custody to James. I know very little of all that happened but she had her own addictions and did not want to raise a baby or be a mom and she's out there somewhere but she does not see her daughter. James asked me to help him raise his daughter and to be a mother to her like I am to our sons. I told him in no uncertain terms that I was never going to be his daughter's mother or his daughter's anything and I would not be filling any sort of role, either big or small, in her life. James tried to guilt me into it but I contacted my attorney and after that all my contact with him was through an app. He continues to text and call but unless he calls when our sons are with him I ignore those calls. Any changes to him taking his weeks can be communicated through the app. He only calls and texts to try and make me give in. Despite what I said James told his daughter I was her mom. I found this out when she kept calling me mom while running to me and asking to come home with me. James admitted he told her I was her mom because I was the closest thing she'll ever had. I tried to kindly explain to her that I wasn't but she got upset and didn't believe me. And James worsened this by feeding into that belief. I told him it was on him to correct but he wouldn't hear of it. This problem has continued and I'm at my wits end with it. My sons have been forced to correct their half sister and they get so frustrated at having to do it that it causes problems at their dad's house and makes them yell at him, which upsets her, which annoys them. They already have a very minimal bond with her and they don't have the most natural sibling relationship with her. To them they only have a real brother and we have talked about this but they find it even harder with everything going on at their dad's. James likes to try and blame me but then won't sit down to discuss the issue with their therapist which he has been invited to do. I reached the end of my rope with it and I told James a couple of weeks ago at another school run in that he needed to get this corrected or I would tell her the whole truth and let the cards fall where they may. He said there's cruelty in hurting kids. I told him that my kids are my priority not his one. Then he tried to say that this would all be fixed if I had just taken his daughter on as my own. This was truly me reaching the end of my rope with this issue. The judge in family court did not want to do anything about it because it didn't pertain to custody of our children, or the overall wellbeing of our children in the eyes of the judge. James won't speak to the therapist our sons talk to. He has refused to listen to me saying no and asking him to correct this before. But maybe I'm a monster for threatening this while knowing I would follow through. Maybe I'm a monster for not caring about this little girl enough to be willing to keep dealing with this. My ex and I have a 12 year old daughter, Olivia, with autism level 2. My ex has primary custody and I have Olivia on Wednesdays and every other weekend. A few months ago my ex told me she was feeling a little burnt out so she wanted us to keep Olivia from Wednesday to Sunday so she could go on a trip with some friends. Olivia is very attached to her mom, so my ex told Olivia that it was a work trip and she had to go. Last week one of my ex’s friends was at the house with my ex and Olivia and their vacation somehow came up. Olivia figured out that the vacation was the “work trip” that her mom told her about and freaked out because her mom lied to her and her mom doesn’t lie. She hid in her room for the rest of the day, then called me and asked me to come get her. She’s been with us ever since. She’s really upset about this. She cries all the time because she wants her mom but she doesn’t know what else her mom lied about and she doesn’t trust her. Apparently Olivia’s aide called my ex because she’s been having a hard time in school so now my ex wife is demanding that I send Olivia home so they can get back to her routines and start working with her therapist to help her get over this but I told her Olivia will go back when she’s ready. Now she’s threatening to call the police and/or take me back to court over “custodial interference” even though we’ve always had a very friendly co parenting relationship. My wife thinks we should send her back to avoid drama but I think it should be Olivia’s choice. This happened about 4 years ago on I-95NB in MD. This is an edited video and when I watch the entire drive, the only provocation I can see is that my mom might have been a little slow for the middle lane. Otherwise, I have no idea why this driver was so unhinged. My 60 year old mom is very naive and didn’t think the driver would be violent. She stopped because the 911 operator told her to. My husband and I travel down to Mexico to visit with my family. I am an American citizen my mom and dad are not. My mom and dad got my daughter earrings for her birthday. My daughter's ears are not pierced. She is only one year old. I told them that I would save them for her until she was old enough to get her ears pierced. We left my daughter with my parents while we went to meet up with some friends. When we went to pick up my daughter my mom showed us that we didn't need to wait because they had taken her to get her ears pierced. I got my daughter and I dragged my husband out of there before he lost his shit. We went back to our hotel. I am furious. My husband said that my parents are not allowed to spend time alone with my daughter ever again. I went farther. I said that I would not be bringing her, or any other kids we might have, down here to see my parents. We checked out three days early and went home. On the way home my parents were calling me to see when we were coming over. I ignored all the calls and texts until we were back home in Phoenix. We took a couple of days to think things over and cool down. I finally called them. I asked them not to speak until I was done talking. I told them that my husband and I are upset with them for getting our baby's ears pierced without our permission. I told them that we went back home and probably wouldn't be visiting for a while. They said that my sister and I both had pierced ears when we were babies and that it did not harm us. I said that we were not going to change our minds. They started getting everyone including my grandmother to call me and say I was being ridiculous. I talked with my husband and we came up with a compromise. We agreed that we would resume visits, but not alone time, with them if they both got their noses pierced. They said that we are being stupid and that they are not going to do that. I said no problem and hung up. So my neighbors, college aged, daughter always parks over the sidewalk causing all the neighborhood kids and walkers to go into the street to get around her SUV ( it’s a pretty busy street as it feeds into the rest of the neighborhood). I’ve asked her once and her response was let me ask my parents, but nothing happened. Fast forward about 9 months. My mom who uses a wheelchair (due to advanced MS) is coming to visit so I asked the neighbor if he could possibly have his daughter park in a way that didn’t cover the sidewalk, while she is here visiting.
