I spent 6 months building a meal planner that doesn't require an account. Launched on iOS this month.
A bit of context: I'm a solo iOS dev. Every meal planner I tried wanted my email before showing me a single recipe, then upsold me to $7.99/mo. I wanted to know if I could ship a working one that asked for neither. Six months later it's on the App Store. Here's what's in it: - 524 recipes built in (not scraped — each has macros, steps, and a linked YouTube tutorial when one exists) - Pantry tracking that feeds an "AI Meal Ideas" view — add the 6 things you have, get 6 dinners you can actually make - One-tap shopping list generation from the week's plan, grouped by aisle - Local notifications 25 minutes before each meal with the recipe queued up - No account, no tracking, runs offline. $2.99/mo Pro after a 30-day free trial. Free tier is genuinely usable on its own. Things I'd do differently: I underestimated how much work the recipe data layer was. I rewrote it three times. Shipping without account creation meant rethinking sync — I ended up using iCloud private database, which I'd recommend to anyone building a "no-account" app. The launch week ad budget is $20 because I ran out of money. Happy to answer technical questions (SwiftUI, CloudKit, what shipped vs what got cut). Not here to push downloads — but if anyone wants to look, it's at mealcurate.github.io and there's a free 30-day Pro trial with annual subscription. Critical feedback welcome. The next version is being scoped now. submitted by /u/OkStrawberry9638 to r/SideProject [link] [comments]

10 months vibecoding the most complete trip planner. Beta is live, my brain is fried, please tell me what you think.
Ciao y'all, Sharing Agoroam, an AI trip planner I've been vibecoding solo for the last 10 months. Currently in beta, web-only (mobile version exists, it's rough, ignore it, like it REEEEEEALLLY SUCKS). What it does: group trip planning is chaos. Agoroam turns that chaos into democratic decision-making. Everyone in the group votes on destinations, activities, dates, budgets, all of it. The AI handles the planning, the group handles the deciding.. The name: the Agora was the public square in ancient Greek cities, where decisions got made out loud, in front of everyone. I added "roam" because I thought it made sense and the whole concept about the app is "let's leave behind the spartan talks and let's move to the democratic decisions, hence the Spartan soldiers going around. How I built it: - Started on Firebase 10 months ago, got the first version running but hit walls as the scope grew. - Moved to Google AI Studio to iterate faster on the AI side. - Now fully on Claude for all the dev work, with every design done in Claude Designs. The design-to-code loop with this combo has been the single biggest unlock for solo building on nights and weekends. - Working full-time at an airline by day, this by night. How did I came up with the idea: I was planning a Japan road trip with friends. My third time, their first. They were totally passive, dumping it all on me because "you've already been." I am not a travel agency. So I built this instead of going to therapy. Why I'm here: I want opinions. Any opinions. About anything. The idea, the name, the vibes, the AI, the design, the copy, the colors, what you had for lunch, whatever. I've stared at this for so long I've lost all perspective and I just want fresh eyes on it. Be as direct as you want. No offense taken. https://agoroam.com EDIT: Quick update: Thanks everyone for the feedback! Indeed as written above the mobile sucks buuuuut… just updated it! Will work on the length of the hero and make it more concise. Regarding the design, changed it already waaay too many times, need to go with something totally different I guess 😭🥲. Just as general info I took this as a reference https://ui-ux-pro-max-skill.nextlevelbuilder.io/demo/restaurant-food But indeed it looks Claude. Still updating it and keeping you posted submitted by /u/Longjumping_Log2015 to r/vibecoding [link] [comments]

Oikos — a self-hosted family planner with tasks, shopping, meals, calendar sync, budget & notes. No cloud, no frameworks, no subscriptions. Docker + PWA.
Hey r/selfhosted, I built Oikos because I couldn't find a self-hosted family organizer that actually covers daily household coordination without being either a bloated Nextcloud plugin chain or a SaaS product that holds your family's data hostage. Oikos is a single Docker container that gives you: shared task management (with Kanban and recurring tasks via RRULE), collaborative shopping lists, a weekly meal planner that exports ingredients to your shopping list with one click, a calendar with month/week/day/agenda views, budget tracking with CSV export, sticky notes, and a shared contacts directory. What makes it different: - Two-way calendar sync — Google Calendar (OAuth 2.0) and Apple iCloud (CalDAV). Not just import, actual bidirectional sync. - Zero frontend dependencies — Vanilla JavaScript ES modules, plain CSS, no React, no Vue, no build step. What you see in the repo is what ships. This is a deliberate constraint, not a limitation. - Encrypted at rest — SQLCipher (AES-256) for the SQLite database. Optional, but there if you want it. - PWA — Installable on any device, works offline, dark mode, responsive from phone to tablet. - Hardened by default: CSRF protection (double submit cookie), bcrypt passwords (cost 12), rate limiting, Helmet CSP, httpOnly/SameSite/Secure session cookies. No API endpoint reachable without authentication except login. Tech stack: Node.js / Express / SQLite+SQLCipher / Vanilla JS (ES Modules) / Docker / Nginx reverse proxy Honest status: This is early. The repo has 15 commits, zero stars, and one contributor (me). I'm not going to pretend otherwise. What it does have is a working app that my family uses daily, 146 passing tests across 7 suites, a proper security model, and an MIT license. The README has full setup instructions including Nginx config, Google/Apple calendar integration, backup/restore, and multi-user management. i18n (german and english UI), a frontend redesign, and a shared Web Component base class are on the roadmap. Links: GitHub Landing page with screenshots Setup is git clone → cp .env.example .env → docker compose up -d → docker compose exec oikos node setup.js. First build takes 2–3 min because SQLCipher compiles against better-sqlite3. If you're looking for a lightweight family planner that doesn't phone home and doesn't require a CS degree to deploy; give it a look. Feedback, issues, and PRs welcome. Happy to answer questions here. submitted by /u/ulsklyc to r/selfhosted [link] [comments]

I tracked every "passive income" idea I tried over 2 years. Here's what actually made money and what was a complete waste of time.
I'm gonna save some of you months of wasted effort. Between 2024 and now I tried basically everything this sub recommends. Dropshipping, print on demand, affiliate blogs, YouTube automation, crypto staking, selling courses, selling templates, KDP books, Etsy digital products, stock photography, and a few I'm probably forgetting. I tracked every single one. Hours spent, money in, money out. No rounding up, no "potential revenue," just actual dollars that hit my bank account. Here's the honest breakdown. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME Dropshipping. Spent about $2,400 on ads and product testing over 4 months. Made $900 in revenue. Net loss of $1,500 not counting the 200+ hours. The margins are a lie unless you find a winning product fast and most people never do. Every guru showing Shopify dashboards is selling you the course, not the method. YouTube automation. Hired freelancers to make faceless videos. Spent $3,000 on editors and voiceover. Channel got monetized after 8 months. Monthly revenue settled at about $120. Would take 2 years to break even. Cancelled everything. Stock photography. Uploaded 300+ photos to multiple platforms over 6 months. Total earnings after a year: $47. The market is flooded and AI image generators killed whatever was left. Affiliate blog. Wrote 60 articles targeting low competition keywords. Got decent traffic after 6 months. Made $400 total in affiliate commissions over a year. Then a Google update wiped half my traffic overnight. Never recovered. BROKE EVEN (not worth the effort) Print on demand. Made about $2,200 over 8 months on Redbubble and Merch by Amazon. But I spent easily 300 hours on designs, listings, and keyword research. That's roughly $7/hour. Minimum wage is better and you don't have to stare at Canva. KDP low content books. Published 15 journals and planners. Made about $800 over a year. Most of it came from 2 books. The other 13 made almost nothing. The winners were ultra specific. The losers were generic. Crypto staking. Put $5,000 in various staking protocols. Made about $600 in a year in staking rewards. But the tokens I staked dropped 30% in value. Net loss when you factor in the price decline. "Passive income" that loses money isn't passive income. ACTUALLY WORKED Etsy digital products (specific ones). This is the only thing that consistently made money relative to the time invested. But here's what nobody tells you: 90% of digital products on Etsy make zero sales. The ones that work are insanely specific. My first 8 products were generic. Meal planners, budget trackers, habit journals. Total sales in 3 months: 4 units, about $30. Then I made a symptom tracker specifically for people with Hashimoto's thyroid disease. Sold 12 units in the first month at $17 each. Made another one for IBS meal planning with FODMAP categories. Sold 8 units first month. The difference was not the design, not the price, not the SEO. It was that when someone with Hashimoto's searched Etsy and found a product made specifically for their condition, they bought it immediately because nothing else existed. I now have 6 products in specific health and parenting niches. Monthly revenue is between $400 and $700 depending on the month. Time spent maintaining: about 2 hours a month updating tags and responding to the occasional message. That's the closest thing to actual passive income I've found. WHAT I LEARNED The stuff that works has three things in common. First, low creation time relative to revenue. If it takes 100 hours to make and earns $500 a year, you lost. If it takes 5 hours and earns $200 a year, you won. Second, a specific audience that feels underserved. Generic products compete with 50,000 listings. Specific products compete with 3. The math is obvious but most people still make generic stuff because it feels safer. Third, a platform with built in traffic. Etsy, Amazon, Gumroad. You don't need followers, you don't need ads, you don't need a personal brand. The platform brings the buyers. You just need to be there when they search. The biggest lie in the passive income space is that you need to "scale." You don't. Six products making $80 a month each is $480/month for basically zero ongoing work. That's not life changing money but it's real money that shows up every month without you doing anything. And you can build that in a few weekends if you pick the right niches. Stop trying to build the next big thing. Find 5 specific problems that specific people have and make a simple structured product that solves each one. That's it. That's the whole strategy. What's worked for you guys? Curious if anyone else landed on the same conclusion or found something different. *Edit: Since many asked in comments and DMs how I find specific niches, I posted my approach in a comment below. submitted by /u/Existing-Ice221 to r/passive_income [link] [comments]

Showcasing moneystill: Open-Source Budget Planner with What-If Scenarios and Privacy-First Self-Hosting (AGPL)
Hey r/selfhosted, quick backstory first: This whole thing started with my mom's old-school budgeting notebook. Every year she sat down with ruler, pencil and grid paper like this: https://preview.redd.it/kef5daxp01mg1.jpg?width=1824&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6192b6cf6399e018d9bfd5e38b61d34d6dd8b318 planning income, rent, groceries, vacations month by month. No apps, no cloud, just pen and paper. It actually worked great, but it was tedious as hell: errors, crossed-out lines, redoing columns...Years later I took over the tradition, moved to spreadsheets... and quickly hated the copy-paste-hell, broken formulas and version chaos. So I built moneystill: same clear full-year overview my mom loved, but with auto-fill for recurring stuff, what-if scenarios (job switch? More kids? See the impact before deciding), Sankey flows that show exactly where money goes, PDF exports and full JSON export/import – no lock-in, no data selling. I've just adapted it for the US market (dollars, 529 college savings categories, US Letter PDFs), but it's built on React + PocketBase for easy self-hosting via Docker. Managed option for $45/year if you don't want the hassle. Key bits: Yearly budget table in one view, auto-fill recurring "What-if" simulations without touching real data Analytics: Sankey flows, savings rate, trend views US tweaks: 529 support, dollar formats etc. Privacy: No ads, no tracking, no data broker bullshit – open-source (AGPL) so you can audit everything Repo: https://github.com/krisauseu/moneystill Hosted trial: https://moneystill.com (7 days free, no card needed) It's early days, so brutally honest feedback or PRs super welcome! What features would make this your daily driver? Anyone self-hosting something similar with PocketBase? Pain points? If you've ever done analog budgeting like in the pic above – what drove you nuts most? Thanks for reading – let's make budgeting less painful and more future-proof. 😄 Kristian PS: this text is AI translated because my English is not the yellow from the egg https://preview.redd.it/j03qyyw311mg1.png?width=3770&format=png&auto=webp&s=624206d4856991297dc6b51faec80d308b882079 https://preview.redd.it/svodmte511mg1.png?width=3770&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab79c26f3ae9dd02f99551e337454fbe0767b7d0 submitted by /u/KrisAusEU to r/selfhosted [link] [comments]

Found a venue I love in budget — planner says don’t book yet. WWYD?
Hi everyone, I need some outside perspective. My wedding is a little over a year away (May 2027), and my planner/coordinator keeps telling me not to book vendors or a venue yet because we “have time” and it’s too early. The thing is… I found a venue that I LOVE. It’s in our budget, fits our guest count, and checks all the boxes. I’ve toured it, asked about hidden fees, read reviews, compared it to other places, and really did my research. I’m not impulse booking. My fear is that if I wait, my date will get taken. It’s peak spring wedding season, and I don’t want to lose it just because we were trying to “wait.” So my question is — do I: Just book it and tell her later when she asks? Tell her I’m planning to book it and risk her thinking I rushed into it or ignored her advice? I don’t want to be disrespectful, but at the end of the day it’s our wedding and our money. I also don’t want tension this early in the process. Has anyone else dealt with a planner who wanted to move slower than you did? What did you do? Should also mention my planner is a professional but is also doing it for a lower cost because she knows my god mom UPDATE:Thank you all for the suggestions! With a couple of nights to sleep on it and talking with my family and my fiancé, we have decided it’s best to go ahead and book this venue and put down a deposit seeing as it matches my theme and it is a really popular venue it’s really close to my house so it won’t be a long drive for us. It comes with a lot of great amenities and it is beautiful. Since I am not currently in contact with my planner since she is so busy with other weddings, I will book it and then whenever we go to touch base again I will tell her that we found of Venue that we loved and booked it. There shouldn’t be any issues because she did tell me that she will be very busy for the next couple of months since she’s not a full-time planner for me she is just going to be my month of I know she had said to let her know before booking a venue, but at the same time, she told me that she was really busy so I was stuck in a hard place because I felt right about this venue so I’m booking it and if she has a problem that will be an issue for another day. I’m just so happy that I’m going to get Venue that I love. submitted by /u/False_Anxiety_1960 to r/Advice [link] [comments]

2026 MONTHLY planner recommendations
alright so.. I need some help. I'm a gal with raging adhd who NEEDS a DATED paper planner to organize their life. something that has monthly pages only, or if weekly are included it's more of a summary and not a bunch of wasted pages (if that makes sense). I don't need an extensive daily or weekly layout at all (because huge waste for my life as I don't need to outline work tasks etc), but would like some space somewhere to facilitate writing out my budget/simple to dos. I found the mark's notebook calendar in my local stationary store in early October/November and thought it was silly to buy my next planner so early but it was EVERYTHING this gal wanted. Unfortunately they were sold out by the time I went to pick one up closer to christmas. I tried looking online to order one, but the cost to ship seemed silly from Japan so I went on a deep dive of other options. I then found the laurel denise planner and really liked how the month was anchored with the dutch door style but shipping unfortunately was literally the cost of her planner which sucked. I then tried to see if a binder planner would work and I could DIY a bit but didn't really love anything I saw online and printing / putting together something of my own with my adhd just doesn't feel like it would be great. does anyone have recommendations on anything I could find that would be available this late in the year? any help would be appreciated!!! submitted by /u/Little_Ad_8943 to r/planners [link] [comments]

My digital planner side hustle hit $2K/month thanks to Pinterest automation
Started selling digital planners on Gumroad 6 months ago as a side hustle. Was making maybe $200/month posting randomly on social media. Where I'm At: Just hit $2,143 last month! Not life-changing money but covers my car payment and groceries. What I've Done: Created 47 different planner designs (productivity, meal planning, budget trackers) Set up Pinterest using Tailwind after manual posting became impossible Built email list of 1,200 people who get first access to new planners Early Results I'm Seeing: Pinterest: 89K monthly impressions (started from 0) Website traffic: 3,400 visitors/month (85% from Pinterest) Conversion rate: 2.1% (higher than Instagram followers) Best seller: "Content Creator Planner" - $487 last month alone What I'm Learning: Pinterest users actually buy stuff (vs Instagram users who just like posts) Seasonal planning works - back-to-school planners killed it in August Automating pin scheduling gave me 15+ hours weekly back The Tailwind Communities thing is legit - other creators share my pins What's Not Working: TikTok promotion (lots of views, zero sales) Facebook groups (too spammy, admins hate sellers) Manual Pinterest posting (obviously) What's Next: Want to hit $5K/month by Christmas. Planning holiday-themed planners and maybe branching into printable art. The Pinterest strategy is working but Tailwind subscription cuts into profits. Still worth it for time saved though. AITA for wanting to uninvite my sister-in-law from my wedding because she keeps undermining my wedding planning?
Sorry, even after removing some stuff, this turned out to be really long. Throwaway so hopefully Kayla doesn’t find this. My fiancé, Nate (27M), and I (26F) have been together for almost 3 years. He proposed to me about six months ago, and shortly after, we found out I was pregnant. We are planning on having our wedding in the Spring of next year. Nate has a twin sister (27F) who we will call Kayla. Nate and I announced our engagement and my pregnancy at the same time. We made a cute little Facebook post with a couple engagement pics and an ultrasound photo that said something along the lines of “The Smith family is going to have TWO new additions!” Kayla commented almost immediately that we will have to wait until next year to actually get married because she looks best in “fall colors” and as my maid of honor she’ll get a say in choosing bridesmaids dresses. I literally stared at my phone screen wondering if I read something wrong. I showed the comment to Nate and asked him why she thought she would be my maid of honor. He had no clue. So, I texted her and this is how that exchange went: Me: Hey Kayla, I see you saw our announcement on Facebook. Thank you for being ready to step up for me, but we haven’t started working out wedding logistics yet. And I haven’t picked my bridesmaids, much less my maid of honor. Once we have more details of the wedding worked out, we will let you know. Kayla: Well, you don’t have to choose a maid of honor anymore. I’m your maid of honor. Me: I don’t understand. I never asked you to be? Kayla: You don’t have to ask. That’s what makes me such a good sister. Me: I’m sorry, you are not my maid of honor. Kayla: We’ll see about that. I showed these messages to Nate who said he would deal with it. I have no idea what the extent of their conversation was, but Kayla never brought up being my maid of honor again. She just reared her ugly attitude in different ways. As of now, Nate and I have booked the venues, caterer, the florals, decorations and the DJ already. A couple months ago, I invited mine and Nate’s mothers, along with my sister, Sam, (who I asked to be my maid of honor), to do some dress shopping. Kayla found out from her mom and invited herself to tag along. We started by looking for a dress for Sam. I wanted my bridesmaids in a pretty pastel yellow, but Sam’s is going to be more Golden. Kayla would not shut up about how yellow is such an ugly color and I should go with pink or blue instead. She even grabbed a bunch of pink and blue dresses to try on herself. I tried my best to ignore her while her mother entertained her bizarre ideas. Sam and my mother were making constant comments about how it’s my wedding and if Kayla isn’t going to be helpful, she should just leave. Unfortunately, she didn’t and I am too nice to kick her out in front of my MIL who I already have a strained relationship with. Our mothers were able to shop for their dresses with little interference from Kayla, but as soon as I started trying things on, she had all sorts of things to say. She would tell me that certain styles wouldn’t look good once I had a “baby bod” and even told me I should consider not wearing white since I’m obviously not a virgin. I told her she wasn’t a virgin when she got married either, yet she still wore an adorable white sundress to the courthouse. She grumbled about how that wasn’t the same but I was already halfway back to the changing room. I still don’t know what happened while I was in there, but when I came out, Kayla and MIL were gone and Sam had a smug smile on her face. I never discussed any details of the wedding with Kayla if I could help it, but I’ve heard Nate sharing some of our plans with her. He told her we were planning on a buffet-style meal because we have a lot of dietary restrictions in our families and that was the cheapest way to accommodate everybody (literally like a few thousand dollar difference) and she told him he deserved someone who wouldn’t “go cheap” on his wedding - even though the buffet was his idea. He told her about our venue choices - he picked the reception venue, I picked the ceremony venue, which is the same place my parents got married. My father passed away and since he cannot walk me down the aisle, I always wanted to get married in the same place he married my mom to sort of feel like he was there with us. She told Nate that my venue choice was tacky and people would make fun of us. When he mentioned he wanted a DJ, she made a comment about how she knew I wasn’t classy enough to want a live band. Each and every time she would make comments like this, Nate would tell her that they were his ideas, but not call her out for how she spoke about me, which I do feel a little hurt by. I’ve expressed this to him and he told me that he would try to do better about calling her out, but she’s just always been this way. I told him that’s no excuse for her to be disrespectful and stick her nose into business that doesn’t concern her. He hesitantly agreed. On Friday, I got an email from the venue for our ceremony, confirming our cancellation and asking if we needed to reschedule. Shortly after that, I got a voicemail from our caterer explaining that my new wedding planner had just called, but the line had dropped and was wondering if I could pass along her phone number so they could finish going over changes to the menu. I immediately emailed the venue back, saying that no, we are not cancelling or rescheduling, please keep our original date on the books. I called the caterer, who explained that a woman had called and said she was my new wedding planner. She had said that I wanted to make some changes to the contract, namely switching from a buffet-style to plated meals. I told him that this was not the case. I do not have a wedding planner and please do not make any changes unless contacted by me or Nate directly with the contact information we have on file. The caterer suggested putting a “password” on file, also. He said he wouldn’t make any changes unless the person requesting them knew the password. I called both venues and all of our other vendors to put in place the same types of precautions. They all gave their sympathies for me having to deal with this. When Nate got home from work I confronted him about it. I told him someone tried to cancel my venue and change our catering. I told him the only person it could be is Kayla. He tried to deny and say that she wouldn’t do it, but I reminded him of how she’s undermined and insulted me during every step of this engagement. I told him I wanted her uninvited. I will give someone who has already done so much to make this wedding stressful the opportunity to do something like show up in white. He fought me on this but I basically told him that I felt disrespected by HIM over how he is allowing Kayla to treat me. I’m his partner and the mother of his child. My feelings and comfort should be more important to him than his sister’s childish antics. We met with her for lunch earlier today and once we got dessert, he asked her if she was trying to make changes to our wedding plans. She said, and I quote, “Well, yeah. It’s the maid of honor’s job to make sure the bride is making the right decisions.” Before Nate could even say anything, I told her she is not my maid of honor, and even if she was, that would not give her the authority to undermine our decisions and make changes to the wedding plans and BUDGET behind our backs. She said she didn’t see what the big deal was since her grandmother had offered us a pretty large chunk of change as a present to help pay for the wedding. I told her again, the wedding budget is none of her business. She tried to argue but I just cut her off. I told her that her behavior regarding our wedding thus far has been nothing but disrespectful and insulting. I told her trying to cancel my venue had crossed the line and she was no longer invited to the wedding. She seemed absolutely shocked by this. She looked at Nate, waiting for him to defend her. And then he did. He looked at me and said, “why don’t we give her one more chance?” I asked if he was kidding, he said no. That Kayla was only doing what she thought was best for us, and now that we’ve told her that it wasn’t okay, we should give her a chance to correct her behavior. I didn’t even respond. I just got up and left. I went and got in my car and drove home, thinking to myself if he wanted to side with his sister, then he could rely on her to get home. I ignored him trying to get ahold of me. Once at home, I packed a small bag and left for Sam’s house. I told her everything and she told me I could stay as long as I needed to. But now she’s at work for the night and that’s where I am now. Trying to process what just happened. Trying to figure out when I became 2nd place in Nate’s life. Trying to figure out if there’s any way to fix what he just broke in me. He keeps switching between asking where I am, telling me he didn’t think this was that big of a deal, and apologizing and asking me to come home and talk. I don’t feel ready to talk to him just yet, I’m still too upset and I feel like I’ll do or say something I will regret like call off the wedding altogether. I just told all my vendors that we aren’t canceling the wedding, but right now I kind of want to. I don’t know if it’s my hormones making me feel crazy or if I’m valid in how hurt I’m feeling. I just don’t know what to do or what to think. So, AITA for not wanting to give her a second chance? Or is my fiancé right that she deserves a chance to prove herself before she’s uninvited from the wedding altogether? TL;DR - my sister in law continues to insult my wedding choices and tried to cancel my venue and change my catering contract. I want her uninvited, my fiancé wants to give her another chance now that we’ve told her this behavior is unacceptable. AITA for being "Greedy and Rude" while planning my wedding?
I (28F) and my fiancé (36M) are planning our wedding, and last night he accused me of being "greedy and rude." Background: I come from a wealthy family and have worked hard to manage finances responsibly. My father has given each daughter $120K for their wedding. My sisters used all of it for their weddings, but I asked to use $70K for the wedding and $10K for a honeymoon, saving $40K to help with future children’s expenses. My dad agreed to this plan, but only if I could make the wedding work with that budget. I didn’t make this decision lightly. When I first got engaged five months ago, I considered using the full amount for a European wedding, but I realized I didn’t want to prioritize that. A wedding is one day, and securing our future financial stability seemed more important. My fiancé has been patient but has accused me of delaying the wedding due to indecisiveness, though I’m just overwhelmed by spending so much on one day and managing everything else. Last night, I asked him to help review venues for a tour we’re doing Monday. He rushed through options, and I started to cry from stress. I also wanted to vet the venues’ prices before booking, but this frustrated him. He said I was rude for not wanting to use all the money for a wedding he would love, claiming that going over budget was fine because this was our most important day. He has always dreamed of a grand wedding with lots of guests. He criticized the venue I liked, an old library that only seats 180 and fits our budget. He said I was being rude by limiting my guest list to 60 people so he could invite 120 of his family. He also accused me of being “greedy” for wanting to save the leftover money and said I looked like I was hoarding it. He argued that since we are financially well-off, I shouldn’t worry about saving for future children. He also mentioned that our wedding planner had supposedly said I was being greedy, though he later admitted to making that up to show me how rude I was being. I thought I was being fiscally responsible by saving the extra money, but now I’m questioning if I’ve made the right decision. I Think I Found the Best Budget Planner+Expense Tracker App!
One of my rituals every end of the year is to consolidate and liquidate my finances— salary, savings/investments, and liabilities. And for the longest time, I have always been using my excel and notes (for monthly budgeting). Every year, I am on the hunt for the best budgeting app with the following parameters: (1) easy to use/understand, (2) visually helpful/functional (ie. charts, layout, icons), and lastly (3) free or minimal premium fees. I have downloaded many budget/money tracker apps before but I always go back to my excel/notes app. The problem with doing it on excel is that I am not able to do it religiously, with Notes app naman, very limited features! So yesterday, I tried to browse on Apple Store and I came across this app named “Budget”. It has really simple but visually functional features and the premium fees are also very manageable (compared to other apps I have downloaded before). I have attached some photos for reference! Basically, it is like a budget/finances tracker all in one. You can track your budget, daily transaction, account overview (salary, savings, investment) and even tracking credit cards! There are other features pa like having a shared ledger with family members, etc that I haven’t tried yet. But super super excited to maximize this app talaga! It’s fulfilling all my finance-OCness LOL 😅 Grabe I’m just really amazed at this app so I wanna share with you guys, baka you might find this useful as well 😊 submitted by /u/fantasydreamer__ to r/adultingph [link] [comments]

AITA For Not Buying My Fiance A Second Wedding Dress That's More than 50% The Total Budget?
Throwaway Account My (F49) fiancé (F32) wants me to buy her a new wedding dress that’s over 50% the total wedding budget after I already bought her a $8,600 dress. I’m marrying the love of my life who is a member of a Native American tribe and lives on a reservation in my city. I was involved with this tribe before I met her, buying an older woman a mobile home to put on her land when her daughter went to prison leaving her three grandkids to raise when she was living in a 15’ travel trailer. She managed to get the kids out of foster care due to this. This greased the wheels to get the council to approve us having our wedding on the reservation. I’m paying for everything and have a $60,000 budget. There will be traditional dancers, drummers, and a traditional feast all catered by women on the reservation. We have an 80 person guestlist—the only people coming on my side is my mother and my adult nephew. Yes, I’m spreading my money around on the reservation, trying not to be obnoxious about it. Like I said, I’ve seen the poverty many of them go through and I love that my wedding is bringing money there. My fiancé said she dreamed of her wedding since she was a little girl. I could care less about weddings, tbh, so I’ve let her be the only ‘bride’. I’m going to wear a black gown with tuxedo elements on top to kind of stand in as a ‘groom’. This way all the attention will be on her. My only rule was that the budget was $60,000 FIRM, not a penny more, and I hired a wedding planner she had to work with to get everything within that budget. She went out with her girlfriends and decided on a beautiful $8,600 dress. She loved it. It was purchased and fitted. Great. It’s three months until the wedding (we’re doing November because it’s way too hot to have a summer wedding out here). She was continuing to get things ready with the tribe and the planner. One of the tribal elders brought up her dress. He said she should wear a traditional tribal gown made by one of their artisans. She sat me down to tell me something ‘serious’ and explained that she couldn’t wear the gown she bought. She needed a traditional tribal gown. I said to get a quote from the artisan and maybe we could get a partial return and/or sell the other gown to cover it. The artisan’s price? $33,000!! It’s going to be covered with beadwork and she needs to get started NOW. I said, well it’s a good thing we already have a gown. She said she would not humiliate herself and dishonor her tribe by wearing the wrong gown. I said I can’t approve this cost. It would throw the budget out the window. She says I have millions of dollars, and this is our wedding and I’m being ridiculous. Yes, I have money. I live off 4% as someone semi-retired. I have this money because I KEEP TO THE BUDGETS I SET. Now she’s not talking to me except to remind me every day that if the artisan doesn’t start now, she won’t have a dress. I don’t know what to do. Am I being the asshole here? Edit to Add: I've noticed some confusion and just want to clear something up. The elder isn't saying she's required to wear the dress. There have been other weddings with non-traditional dresses, like her mother's wedding. The elder just suggested that since this is panning out to be such a big event for the tribe, it would be appropriate for her to wear a traditional dress. This is part of why I'm saying that it's still an option for her to wear the original dress. Anyway, she's with her mother right now and I've asked the wedding planner to meet me on the reservation on Monday to see if I can get more information and talk to the dress maker, because as many of you have pointed out it doesn't make sense for the dress to be so expensive. Some suggest I'm being scammed, but I think it's more of a case of not explaining the situation to the dress maker and asking for something too extravagant. I'd also like to consider the option of renting the dress. submitted by /u/Bulky_Plane5918 to r/AmItheAsshole [link] [comments]

My (27F) bf (24M) blocked me for renewing my lease. What can I do to make things up to him? + UPDATE
ORIGINAL: My (27F) bf (24M) blocked me for renewing my lease. What can I do to make things up to him? by u/throwRa_ript on r/relationship_advice (February 29, 2024) I am hurt and betrayed. My bf is a great person and we been together for 3 years. My bf is very frugal and I would too frugal. He graduated with a degree in computer science, and has been making decent money since he graduated. When he graduated he used the FHA loan for a humble but small townhome . I’m someone who differs in that I like the luxury. Last year I got a nice high rise apartment in a major metropolitan area, and signed a 14 month lease. With that my rent was 4100 a month….Eventually with other bills I was not able to afford it. My bf’s mortgage is really cheap because his place is extremely cheap. Mind you his townhouse is only a 2 bedroom…..my apartment is only a 1 bedroom but that’s what you expect. You’re paying for the view (it’s near the top) , the concierge, and the luxury experience. My bf and I had a talk because I needed his help. He would cover half my rent and then I would either move in with him or get a cheaper apartment. I could even stay in the same apartment and switch to one of the cheaper ones. I would have tried to move in with him but not at his place. He agreed that he could move but we still couldn’t find a place that works for both of us because he’s so cheap. Anyway I realized him and I will be getting married soon, so it’s better to renew my lease and enjoy the high rise nice luxury for one more year. I was dreading on telling him but last night I told him. He was pissed…he said “so you just expect me to pay half your rent again…” I told him well obviously. He said “have you considered I like nice things too but it’s hard to do that when I’m sending you 2500 dollars a month…he said I would work with you if you were just bad at managing your personal finances and try to teach you..” he told me it’s worse than that and that “I’m just selfish and trying to take advantage of him”. I was angry at him accusing me of just trying to take advantage of him, that’s not true at fucking all. I love him and the fact that he said that hurt. He just hung up and blocked me everywhere. I’m going to head to his townhouse today so we can talk about this. Any suggestions? Edit: I’m taking accountability and going to cancel the lease Commenters unanimously agree that OOP sounds delusional with her demands from her boyfriend. Everyone thinks that OOP's boyfriend should break up with her for her selfishness. OOP is disinclined to agree and seems desperate to "save" her relationship. She thinks she had the right to ask for what she did, but when the comments don't go her way, she wants to save the relationship and agree to her boyfriend's terms and cancel the lease: I was wrong and that’s why I take full accountability. Him blocking me doesn’t help us get to any real solutions. I’m going over his place today so we can have a real conversation . I was looking for advice on how to approach this conversation. I think I’ll address him blocking me at a later date and just focus on apologizing for renewing my lease without telling him. UPDATE March 1, 2024. Thank you for the few encouraging comments. We are still together. We had a very long talk yesterday. He feels very betrayed and said this was a huge setback. He said one I’m financially irresponsible because I make too much money right now need to be financed . Two he thinks I been using him . That still hurts. I told him I haven’t and I love him and I’ve had opportunities to date men that make more money than him but I want HIM. He laid out some conditions. Therapy? Which I thought was odd request but agreed to it. Both individual and together. I speak to a financial planner and follow their budget. He said they do that for free. He said I needs to show him I want him for more than his money because he’s seriously doubting that and that he’s not sponsoring me anymore. Commenters say OOP made it worse for herself when she claimed to her boyfriend that she had other options but chose him. She's not out of the hole yet. Author's Note: OOP states her boyfriend's conditions, but I am unsure if OOP actually agreed to them. I guess we will see. submitted by /u/red_earaches to r/BestofRedditorUpdates [link] [comments]

Does my wedding planner have my best interest? Ignoring our budget
Update 2.5 months after wedding: I fired that planner. I found one who respected my budget and it was smooth sailing. New planner got us married in 2.5 months. We had a beautiful wedding. Lesson: If the planner is beholden to "pre-vetted vendors" and keeps trying to aggressively upsell, you are in for trouble. We are considering a formal complaint to the Better Business Bureau. If you're in the Washington, D.C. area and curious, DM me for the name. - OP *Edited to clarify budget questions and one small timeline clarification* Looking for advice, esp. if you're a planner or have worked with them the full way - we are spiraling and considering firing this firm, but desperately do not want to resort to that. - Early February: Interviewed and told firm about [4 FIGURES] total budget for an intimate ceremony with 15 or fewer people in a MCOL-HCOL area, on a Saturday in May or June of THIS YEAR. I expected to be laughed out for price (for being under $10k) or short notice, but they *said they can absolutely do it.* There was no hesitation or warning about timeline. - Paid $2500 as one-half of the service of "partial planning." This cost is excluded from our wedding budget; this service was a gift b/c we live a long plane ride away from our wedding location. (That payment's non-refundable. Don't have a problem with this $5k contract agreement - second payment is due after event, and we are willing to be out the $2500). I'm listing the price as some sort of signal of the level they might be on. It seemed comparable or cheaper than others I interviewed, but what do I know. - Early March: First list of venues presented. All are 3x-4x my stated total budget. We ask them for lower budget. - This week: There is resistance still about our budget. But we agree - hesitatingly - to go up to 2x initial budget. We are scared about timeline. They present a new list that is $2k above that new, doubled budget. Things the planning firm has told us about vendor costs: - "Any quality photographer will not do anything under 6 hours" (we are having a small ceremony and small dinner party) - "Any quality flowers is minimum $4k" - Implied that a nice event cannot be done below $20k - We asked to speak on the phone to hash this out in person. We want a tonal reset. Were told to wait a few days for more quotes. We have no date, venue, haven't seen a vision yet. We feel like we are losing trust in our planner, who otherwise has dozens of glowing, 5-star reviews. submitted by /u/orangepekoe89 to r/weddingplanning [link] [comments]
